time it is my pleasure to introduce Mr Austin Quant student council president who give the senior Proclamation [Applause] oh all right um class of 2017 easily one of the greatest classes to have walked through the doors of bubble West High School I'm proud to speak on behalf of this great class and extremely honored to be able to speak to you all this evening these last four years have flown by just yesterday it seemed like we were those weird and skinny little freshmen but for many of us today will be the last day that we are in this building of students however one day we may return as parents or even as teachers to this great School we used to measure our time at school and periods and minutes and in days constantly sitting in class

eagerly waiting for the clock to hit that 25 Mark and the bell to ring so we can go to our next class see our friends or just get out of school but now that school is over I can honestly say that I'm going to miss waiting for that Mark and the bell to ring throughout these four years we have grown as both students and people freshman year we're those lost kids that had no clue what was in store of us for us my bad sophomore year we grew this sense of arrogance where we thought we could do whatever we wanted junior year was stressful but we made it through with little to no tears however some of us cried a lot and then came senior year we were the big kids ready to take on

whatever was thrown at us and now here we are sitting at graduation some of us wondering what will happen next the following class has some big shoes to fill because I can honestly say at the class of 2017 will go down in history thank you thank you I mean let's think about this for a second we won hobo week three out of the four years this year's NHS candidates volunteered for over 2500 hours and this past Year's homecoming dance had a record number of attendees these are just a few examples of wire class as one of the greatest the school has seen as I mentioned earlier we measured our time in class periods and minutes and in days but that is not how we should measure it anymore looking back at the best four years

of Our Lives we'll measure it with memories and with friendships it has been an honor to be a part of this class and we will forever hold each other in our memories thank you class of 2017. foreign at this time I would like to introduce Dr Jeff Dozier superintendent of District 201 for introductions good evening I'm very proud to serve as superintendent here at District 201 at this time I would like to introduce some of our school board members who are with us this evening Mr Kurt Schrader president Carol Eckert vice president [Applause] Mike iscan I believe he's proud Uncle tonight Marvin Lampkin [Applause] Pat Watkins also here with us this evening from the central office are some of our administrators Brian menzer Melissa Taylor Andrea Gannon Josh Lane and Malcolm Hill now this is

the representatives from summa laude Maggie Boltz Joanne Bitner Ethan Le Mans Cameron Martin Jack Leone Amelia Schmitz Lydia Taylor Eli tiemann and Abriana Woods [Applause] the first day of high school felt like we were entering into an entirely different world we are walking into a huge School filled with new people that all seemed to know what they were doing anxiety levels were high but so is excitement I'm sure many of you are feeling this way now we had come from being the oldest kids in school to being the Freshman the kids who got in the way and didn't know what they were doing we were the kids who walked on the wrong side of the hallway and asked for directions seriously on my first day I asked for directions to the cafeteria while I was

in the foreign language hallway it's basically a straight shot we felt like we would be swallowed alive the minute we walked into the school coming from a place where we knew everyone to sitting next to someone that we've never seen before was really scary but we all eventually found a way to cope some of us chose to be quiet and shy While others said something to a classmate like do I have every class with you out of the blue just to try to make a friend each day got a little better and the seniors became a little less scary although I think we'd like to think were pretty scary other freshmen seem to open up and we all learned to walk on the right side of the hallway the transition wasn't easy but coming to

a place like West made it just a little bit easier [Applause] freshman year was full of Firsts for all of us we went from the comfort of our own little middle schools to a school that is roughly 2 000 students strong that's more than an eighth of the size of the city oh I'm sorry Village of Millstadt although when you think about it that's not saying much regardless it was different and different is always scary it didn't take long for all of us to get acclimated to the new school and fall into our own niches once we did most of our anxiety was gone and we were able to begin to enjoy the first year of the best four years of our life or maybe for some of us we were able to begin the

countdown to the last day of the best four years of our life either way we knew that Belleville West would be our home for the next four years and we started off with the mindset that we would make the best of the time that we had in high school and we sure started off strong at our first ever hobo day assembly the sophomores Juniors and seniors chanted the infamous go home freshman chant at us yet as many of you probably vividly remember we as freshmen walked away with first place while the senior class complained that it was rigged and gave us dirty looks it was supposed to hurt our feelings and put us in our place as freshmen but we all know that it only made the victory that much sweeter the rest of freshman

year was a breeze compared to what the beginning of the year felt like the lock screen on our phones was no longer a picture of our schedule we stopped showing up to a majority of the clubs that we impulsively joined at the beginning of the year and West finally began to feel like home in August of 2014 we walked into West to start a new year this time we were excited for an entirely new reason we weren't freshmen we would finally be giving directions rather than asking for them the best part though was that we could yell go home freshmen with the upperclassmen we really thought we were cool didn't we we helped fill the gym with shouts during the hobo day assembly but we couldn't quite pull off another win I guess you can't

have everything and three out of four is pretty good once we finally got over that loss we all looked forward to bigger and better things like driving this was the year of driver's ed the year of awkwardly quiet test drives many traffic law violations and 50 completely authentic hours on a log sheet some of us didn't start driving until junior year but this was a start our teachers on the other hand decided we'd had enough practice and classes started to get harder we might have wished we were freshmen again just for a day so we could at least get a little sympathy sympathy from them we got our introduction to chemistry and speeches in English class maybe you liked one both or neither of these things but I can tell you that I wish I

had paid closer attention to miss slusher's speaking tips right now at the end of the year you might have felt like nothing special happened really of the four years it was probably the least memorable but like all our time spent at Belleville West it was definitely worth it [Applause] as sophomores we were now more comfortable in our surroundings for the first time Wes started to feel less like the place where we went to school and more like the place where we belonged it was no longer just a building full of strangers it was a building full of strangers and friends the faces in our classes were ones we knew ones we had already shared an entire year of memories with and we were looking forward to making more together granted our promotion to wise fools

came with a cost of additional homework and less hand-holding but by this point we were more or less prepared for it even if we didn't feel prepared we weren't in Kansas anymore this was the real deal at the same time sophomore year is like the awkward middle child of the high school years we weren't the weird hippie freshman just entering the school we weren't as cool as the rock star Juniors and didn't have the seniority of the seniors we were the Nerds still struggling to figure out what exactly we would do in high school thus we don't have fond memories of it like we do the other years be honest how many of you remember more than very specific and humorous instances of teachers misspeaking from sophomore year but just because you don't remember these

experiences it doesn't mean they aren't important in many ways sophomore year laid the foundation for all the fun we would experience in Junior and Senior year to come [Music] it's junior year and it seems like we're so close to graduation yet still so so far away for the class of 2017 this was the year of a monster calls a book we are supposed to read as a school but that most of us ended up losing within a few days junior year also marked the end of waiting in line to take School mandated yearbook photos and the beginning of standardized testing and Life After High School preparation for some of us who had been avoiding thinking about what we are going to do with our lives junior year became a brutal wake-up call to start thinking

about college or the military or going straight into the Working World but for those of us who had been planning for the end of high school since Grade School junior years seemed to drag on and on it seems safe to say that by junior year we felt comfortable in high school we had our friends our lunch table and even our preferred staircase many of us had our own driver's license and a feeling of Newfound Freedom that came from driving on her own by this time in our lives many of us had started to form ideas about who we were and where we were headed something Michelle Obama once said seems particularly relatable to this time in our lives it goes you may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able

to solve all of the world's problems at once but don't ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own it seems that not many of us remember a lot about their junior year probably because our brains have repressed the memories of standardized testing and preparation for Life After High School speaking of Life After High School kind of hits you like a brick during junior year Speak oh sorry everyone and their mother asks about your plans after high school but you're just trying to make it through the week the only thing that kept everyone going was the longing for senior year the thought that it would be only one more year to the best year of high school

although from what little memories are left from junior year it seems like a lot of us had seniority to see me for the end of first semester everything seemed to be expected from us all at once and we weren't entirely prepared for it we had to know what we wanted to spend the rest of our lives doing which some of us still don't know the thought of Life After High School became real during junior year however that just added to the excitement of getting to try something new and choosing what path to go down while continuing life's journey finally after all the preparation of junior year we made it to our last year of high school for some of us this was highly anticipated one step closer to moving on with the rest of our

lives others couldn't imagine leaving West behind so soon and planned on making the most of every moment we had left together whichever category you fell into I'm sure we can all agree that the end has been bittersweet as the end of our high school careers this year has been filled with last our last hobo week last high school finals last time to go to prom and after prom and our last time writing insult inside jokes and everybody's yearbooks and in a little bit it'll be our last time walking out of this building fortunately though we got to experience a lot of Firsts this year too this was the first year that we were allowed to play on a donkey basketball team participate in Mr maroon and go to the senior barbecue things we've been waiting

for since freshman year for the first time our lives After High School were something we had to seriously consider and not just for the sake of all the worried adults around us because the real world was fastly approaching these past months alone have been filled with tons of important decisions that will affect our futures in so many different ways for me it's always helped to keep these words from Abraham Lincoln in mind the best way to predict your future is to create it and as our high school experience comes to a close we will finally be able to take this advice foreign whoever said that four years flies by was right it seems like just yesterday we were walking through the front doors on our first day of senior year it was weird to be

called a senior then but we knew when we heard it that we had finally made it we became the true upperclassmen the top dogs at West we walked around the halls feeling right at home because during our time here we made West into our home the past three years started to blur together a little freshman year feels like it happened either yesterday or decades ago all of our favorite events have come and gone now but we will always remember the memories we made together as a class we will never forget how good Mr Lombardi's pancakes are or how he became the first class ever to win the hobo day assembly games for three out of our four years now as seniors most of us have figured out who we are and decided what we want

to become the future is wide open for us we get to decide which path to go down even though we'll all be traveling down different paths whether it be towards College the military the workforce or someplace else we will always be connected to each other as members of the bevel West class of 2017. before we go our separate ways there are always some things to think about look ahead to where you are going and enjoy the ride but never forget where you came from or the memories you made along the way have fun be safe be careful make good decisions and good friends and don't forget to call your parents every once in a while and and one last thing to remember as the wise words of Mr Merton's go live the maroon way respectful

Senior years as well unaware of all the amazing people we would meet and spend the next four years of Our Lives creating memories and friendships that we remember and cherish for the rest of our lives I love the bevel West class of 2017 and have all the confidence in the world in US we are hard-working group that can accomplish anything we put our minds to if we are persistent and give it our all back in 2013 when we started this journey we were all young immature people who were largely dependent upon others for everything but over the past four years we have transformed into more mature more responsible more self-reliant young adults of course we know we know that none of this would be possible or I'm sorry of course we know that none of

us would be where we are today without the guidance and support of all of our amazing parents Guardians and family members I'd also like to thank all the teachers at Bubba West for helping us grow and develop these past four years for devoting their lives to giving us the tools we need to succeed and inspiring us to do so now I'd like to ask a graduating class to give all the parents Guardians family members and teachers in the audience a big round of a big round of applause [Applause] lastly I'm sorry lastly I'd like to give thanks to the class of 2017 for all of their persistence and dedication over the past four years I'm honored to have walked the halls with the greatest class to ever walk the halls of Belleville West there's no
