We're back in open session. >> Can everyone please stand? We're good. Can everyone please stand for the pledge? >> All of us. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Anybody have anything to add to the agenda? Anybody? Can I please have a motion to approve the agenda? >> Motion. >> Second. >> Joe and Vivian. All in favor? >> Any oppose? I have it. Board member code of conduct review. Brian >> I will respectfully listen to those who seek to understand my responsibility to represent the interest of the entire >> Thank you. Anyway, any questions of the consent agenda? >> Okay. Please have a motion to approve the consent agenda. >>

Motion. >> Second. >> Tiffany and Doug. >> Enter. >> Yes. >> Person. >> Yes. >> Cernesca. >> Yes. >> Johnson. >> Yes. >> Peter. >> Yes. >> Lions. Yes. >> Bennett. >> Yes. >> Superintendent report. Mr. Gold. >> All right. Uh we're going to start with summer school recap. Dr. Pitman's going to share a uh quick summary you have in your packet. All right. So, I won't reread everything that you got, but just wanted to recap our summer school. We had a great turnout. We had 193 students, 26 teachers, plus some paras. Um so overall the attendance was great except it declined the third week um as we had a day off for Junth. Um so we're a little concerned with that but more importantly in past we had a grant covering our costs for

summer school and that is no longer so that's a little alarming for us. So I included the costs general costs this does not include Gavin and what they paid um but just looking at teacher salary support, nurse support substitutes, um, administrative costs, all combined, it's it ends up being about $50,000. So, one thing just to put on the radar of conversation in the future is we may want to look at starting to charge again for summer school um, next year for our enrichment classes. So, something to consider. >> Do your numbers include ESY? So is this teaching salary is that from their teachers as well? >> No, those are just our big hollow teachers. Gavin pays there. >> What was the split on the teachers? How many big hollow versus >> it was almost equal

this year. >> Cost per pupil is pretty high. >> All right. for us to run the program. So, we want to reason we're sharing with you now is because we want to put it out there that next spring we're probably gonna if we when we offer we're going to have to charge and the enrollment is going to go way down, but it's been a it's just it's a lot for us to to take on without really because we weren't charging anything other than we charged her for transportation. Is that right? No transportation charge. Okay. >> So, We're just not gonna be able to do that again. >> What have we charged in the past? Remember what they >> was it 50? Was it more? I don't know. I don't remember. >> I was thinking >>

that's that's what I was thinking. And I I thought they were charging 50 for transportation maybe. >> Okay. >> It's still not going to cover it. I actually figured the cost based on what Dr. Pitman shared with me, we were about 300 bucks a student, >> right? >> And um so it's just not feasible to keep doing that. If you look at >> Yeah. Not for only 193 kids. I mean, >> out of 1,800. >> Yeah. >> 10%. >> It's nice to offer the programs >> serving 10% of the population. So, >> it's just hard to not that we're a business, but it's hard to say there's a good return on that investment for us. >> We had we had err funds we were using to pay for it before and it kind of grew.

>> Esser funds went away. We kept it and um we just don't think we can do it again. >> How many um special a key will we have to service because it's under IEP? It's under 20. Okay. >> It's under 20. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, we'll obviously still have the ES >> with no charge. >> For no charge. >> Yep. >> But we wanted it out there. If we do charge next summer, the last thing we want to do is March, April, say surprise. If you want your kids to continue in summer school, it's going to cost Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> So, are you going to offer it next year? >> I mean, we we've not gone that far yet, but if we do, it's going to

have to be a pretty good charge and then we'll determine how many get signed up. I mean, I'd really like it to pay for itself if we're going to offer it. >> Yeah. Right. >> Um, so I think if we if it pays for itself, I don't know how many will sign up to pay $300, >> right, >> for summer school. >> My kids have gone and it's using it more of a >> Yeah. >> two week daycare type thing because what they're doing there sometimes they're interested, sometimes they're not. >> Yep. >> It's more of >> something to get them out of the house and a couple weeks. Yeah. >> Because a lot of it's not doesn't really follow any of the curriculum. So, it's just >> it really isn't to school. But it

is I mean they get to learn different stuff, >> learn different things. >> Why is there like so many teachers compared to so few students? >> Like >> it's to teacher ratio. >> Oh, because I was like based on this it's like seven kids per >> teacher. classes are capped typically depending on what the activities are. So if we cooking >> we have science >> different computer lab programs and those are capped at a certain number of students. >> Oh okay. >> It does fill up >> or something. >> Oh really? Like yeah like it went out one way and we found out through square app but if you didn't have square app you find out >> okay lot of stuff >> oh because the square app you can get you can set it up

so your emails come immediately or they come at the end of the day in a digest. So yeah, >> um we had like we have one group of elementary. I thought this was great this year. I How many kids were on that uh group that went out every day adventure >> about what 15? >> 15. >> Okay. >> They would do summer adventure. Every day they'd go to like some state park and hike or do they had adventure every day. We'd bust them out >> and uh I think that went really well from what I heard. Yeah. >> And that was a cost to the parents. >> They had to pay for that because it was so much transportation we had to charge. transportation fee >> was the activities that were associated with that. >>

Yeah. >> How was your turn? Because it was >> they they So yeah, their program was selfpaid. Like we didn't cover any of >> Yeah. But also for an activities program like that where you're actually doing fun stuff for that. >> Yeah, I know. I know. >> Yeah. Agree. Is Gavin gonna run? They >> Gavin's gonna they're gonna talk at her board meeting Thursday night. So, they're they know they got a charge, too. So, >> Yep. So, we will uh we'll bring that up in the spring. I'll make sure we communicate ahead of time with parents so they know. >> Um, next item is just uh something. It's in your packet. We we just put it in front of you every year. It's the board agreements. we agreed on in 2021 with the training we

have with the ISB just talks about the different agreements we agreed on as a board. Um again not something we need to read right now but just know that uh this is a good review for just our your role as board members and how we decided to the agreements we had in in our governance procedures. So, and then um item C is just invitation to uh our welcome back breakfast Monday, August 18th. It begins at 8:00. If you like to come, we'd be glad to have you. Just let me know if you're coming so I can make sure I introduce you to the staff. Um we have a breakfast at about 8 o'clock and we have a speaker. I'll open with about uh we'll have a breakfast and I'll open with about a half an

hour of comments and things and then um We do have a speaker this year that's we're bringing in that um wrote a book on uh really classroom management and uh our elementary teachers have been going through the book studies. So we decided to bring him in. So um uh he's I actually would see our teachers last year implementing stuff that he was teaching and so I thought okay I like this. So we we're bringing him in. He's going to do our keynote that day. So So that's just an invite. And then item D is just the annual just a review of the timeline for my evaluation process. Everything nothing changes there. Uh everything seemed to work well this year for that. I appreciate your feedback on the evaluation. >> That's all I got. Kevin. >>

All right. Thank you. Anybody any questions on the June employment report? Okay. Please have a motion to approve the June employment report. >> Motion. >> Second. >> Joe and Sesca. >> Yes. >> Peter. >> Yes. >> Menters. >> Yes. >> Johnson. >> Yes. >> Lions. Yes, >> Peterson. >> Yes, >> Bennett. >> Yes. >> Anybody have any questions on the health, life, dental, vision, life insurance rates? >> Can I please have a motion to approve the new health, dental, vision, life insurance rates as recommended? >> Motion. >> Joe and Doug. >> Sesca, >> yes. >> Patterson, >> yes. >> Bennett, >> yes. >> Johnson, >> yes. >> Peter, >> yes. >> Lions, >> yes. Can I just mention one thing about this? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. >> The press policy. Um I just want

to mention one thing. Most of these I did not have a policy committee meeting because most of them are are just uh reviews. So they didn't change anything. They just put them in front of us to review it. So it goes in the packet. But policy 280 is board member oath and conduct. And I just want to make sure you know this because it does say we were supposed to make sure make you're aware of it, but um this is under the questions and answers section on page two, but it says at the bottom I have it highlighted a board member who fails to abide by the oath of office or the code may be subject to the action by the board including but not limited to formal censure and referral to the region superintendent

to be removed from the office of the board under board policy 260. And it says question is has the board adopted this policy to the optional sentence above and because that sentence is optional and uh we we have adopted that policy. So as long as you're good with that we keep it all in there. >> Okay. That's the only thing with the board policies that I just needed to run by. >> All right. So we putting that in there. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Everyone good with it? [Laughter] That's that's next. Kevin's gonna add something to the agenda. >> Uh, can I please have a motion to approve the recent board policy update on first reading? >> Motion. >> Joe and Ash. >> Yes. >> Bennett, >> yes. >> Johnson, >> yes. >> Peter, >>

yes. >> Lions, >> yes. >> Patterson, >> yes. Hunters. >> Yes. >> Any questions about sixth grade girls volleyball? >> Very nice. Can I please have a motion to approve to add sixth grade girls volleyball as an extracurricular activity at Big Hall Middle School starting at the 2526 school year? >> Motion. >> Second. Tiffany and Joe. >> Venttor. >> Yes. >> Peter. >> Yes. >> Lions. >> Yes. Yes. >> Bennett. >> Yes. >> Johnson. >> Yes. >> One question. >> Yeah. >> How are we doing on scheduling gym space for the additional sports? Okay. And I It's going to be really helpful because right now our I don't know Annie told me if I'm wrong, but what I see is our seventh grade girls go to volleyball and unless they play clubs somewhere, they hadn't

had have had any exposure to volleyball. So, When's the boys gonna start? Are there other are there local schools with sixth grade boys volleyball? >> No, I was going to say that's not a common thing. high school. It's like >> super >> Yeah. And this is like an official league sport like we're part part of our Okay. >> Oh, okay. Okay. Very nice. >> All right. Thank you. >> Um, anybody any questions on the annual review of >> Can I please have a motion to approve the review of closed meeting minutes? >> Second. >> Ash and Vivian. All in favor? >> Any Any oppose? Eyes have resignations? None. Do we have any public comment? >> We do notformational >> items.
