Um and as a school district, we're proud to share that the Minnesota Department of Education has found our special education program to be in full compliance. This outstanding result reflects the dedication and commitment of our administration to special education. And this was a a select few schools to do an audit and we were so fortunate to get selected. Um but we're very very happy uh that we passed it
and a lot of due diligence and work was put in from a lot of our staff to make sure we could pass it. So we're pretty happy about that. Uh then if we get into the winter awards for positive recognition, the girls basketball co-conference champs three years in a row. Brooke Van Meeveren all-time point record holder with 2,662 points, all-conference, all-section player of the year, all-state honorable mention. We received $500 from Jack and Lisa May for the Bison Memorial Fund. We received $1,000 from Charles and Rosalind Winger, of Winger Land Services, for a scholarship
this year. And we received another $1,000 from Randy and Mary Young for a scholarship donation. So, thank you for those. I'm Justin Ernat, District 7. I'm Melissa McDonald. I'm Steve McDonald. I'm Jake Kemper. All right, with that note, any unfinished business? Any business business to have to be considered agendas for the So moved. Do I have a motion to say it? I'll second it. Seconded by Sarah. All in favor say "Aye". Aye. All opposed? The chair is on the bear. Uh next we go to the resignations. I believe it's for the education resignations of paraprofessional Karen Meyer and resignation of the paraprofessional I just thank them for their years of dedication and commitment to our our students and our staff. Thank you for that. With that I have a motion to accept the resignations of
Karen and Sue. Do I have a motion? Do I have a motion to accept them? So moved. Seconded by Nick. All in favor say "Aye". Aye. All opposed? The chair is on the bear. Uh next we have a leave of absence for Tom Brett. Tom has given us two years of military employment. Uh he'll be out for 1 year. Uh thank Tom for his service and look forward to his return to school after his completion of his military service. With that do I have a motion to approve the request of Tom? So moved. Nick made the motion to accept it. I'll second. Seconded by Sarah. All in favor say "Aye". Aye. All opposed? The chair is on the bear. Next we have a resolution related to non-renewal of probationary teachers. Uh we're going to have
a number of non-renewals this year. >> I would like to keep this private. Thank you, Connie. So Connie read the resolution. Do you need a motion on this one? I just want to share as I shared with uh some of the probationary teachers uh just because you're getting non-renewed doesn't mean necessarily that your student job performance or can be many reasons. Sometimes you're uh maybe decreasing class size or section. Uh whenever we hire late in the year, if we hire in August, we hire in September, if we hire in October, we always then reopen it up. Does not matter who it is or what the position is to make sure that we have the strongest pool, so it might be that reason. It might be that uh we hired you and you weren't licensed at
the time and we had to get an out-of-field variance. So, then by law, we have to re- we have to non-renew you at a board meeting and then reopen it up. So, uh we do have four teachers that were uh looking to non-renew non-renew and some of them fit into all those categories that I mentioned. All right. Yes, sir. So, Connie has the motion to reduce resolution that has been seconded. Second. Second, Mike Cannon. Mike Cannon, yes. Um Yes, sir. So, Pat. Yes. All right. Yes. Sir. Yes. Doug. Yes. All right. This resolution is duly declared was declared duly passed and adopted unanimously by the board. We're now on the '26-'27 school calendar session here. So, this has been an ongoing process as you reported uh no other board uh your teaching negotiation and the
committee um pulled back on the calendar committee and put it together and bring forth a proposal to you as a board. And I have that in yellow. Um and there's so many different aspects that go into a calendar. You try to balance the number of days in each semester. Uh you need to meet your requirements for what the contract is for work days for teachers. You have to meet what you want as a board for student days, etc. So, I'm going to walk through with the um the calendar committee proposals. You know, I'm not going to go through every aspect of it, but I'll I'll go through in the months. So, in August, one of the changes that you see when you look at the the numbers that are 24, 25, 26, and 27, they're
proposing that we add another teacher workshop day. Usually, we have three. They're proposing to add a fourth day. They are proposing that we start before Labor Day. Uh the state has is allowing school districts for these next the upcoming 2 years to start before Labor Day. It's a school district's choice. Um because of when Labor Day falls. They are They are recommending that we do start before Labor Day in their proposal. October was very similar to every October for probably the last decade or so. Uh that there's an early out on the 14th, right before I'll still call it the EM break through the NEA break. Then you go to November. Um looks very similar with a curriculum day on Monday the 2nd for grading, etc. You have a a day on the 12th for
uh teacher conferences. Um and then right before the Thanksgiving holiday break uh as well as a early out. December, they've added a another day in the December break. Usually, we would go right up to 20 to 23rd. They're proposing to the board that we have the last day of school on the 22nd, and that there'd be an early out on the 22nd. January is very similar to um January as you've seen in the past. February is very similar, except uh around Presidents um Day, they're proposing to have Friday as a no school day as well. In the past, it's usually been just the Monday that was off. March 1st is an anomaly. We host the section choir and band once every 7 years. It happens to be the year that it happens to fall on
for each student day, each student each teacher day becoming a non-school day because that's how many students are in our school. Uh and again, I it happens once every 7 years. Then you can go into what would be considered uh the spring break wrapped around Easter. Uh some schools come back on Monday. Some Some schools would maybe have the whole week off. But again, this has to tie into how many contract days we have for work as as teachers. So, that's their proposal there. April is April pretty normal um as far as conferences, etc. Then the end of the school year gets a little um quirky compared to what we've ever done before. They're proposing that the 27th be the last year school for elementary and the 28th be the last school day for high
school students. The 28th would be the last teacher work day for elementary and the high school teachers would come back on the 1st. And usually, we always had all teachers ending on the same day. And then they're proposing that graduation be on Friday. And in the past, it's been on Sunday. Uh what in the recent past, whatever you want to find recent as I don't Connie, that wasn't wasn't your case. Maybe I don't know when he's graduated. When I did graduate, it was on a Sunday. So anyway, but recent recent history um has been on a Sunday. Part of their proposal is then on conferences, so we have so few parents show up at conferences that they would trade the 4 hours 4 hours of the high school conference time and short that and then
teachers instead would instead of that conference time, which quite honestly very few parents do show up for because there's constant communication at that level compared to years years before because of technology. Uh then the teacher would show up on Friday evening for the graduation. So, that's their proposal. Um and I tried to explain this to you in a an email. I don't know if you're able to follow it because there's a lot um a lot there. Uh again, it's I don't like necessarily doing it, but I also like giving my thoughts cuz I I don't want the committee to feel like you put in all this work and then Tim comes swoops in and says, "Here's a different plan." But if I were to make a few adjustments uh to their calendar, and that's the
white one then, uh I would keep the 4 days in August that they proposed. I would start before Labor Day and keep their September um I'd keep their October proposal, their November proposal. I'm not going to go through all my strengths and weaknesses or some things that I I would do differently if it were Tim Collins. Uh Kelly might do it differently for her. Karen might do it differently. So, there's some things I'm not that strongly opinionated on. December 22nd, that's fine. I don't mind that being the last day of school before the the winter break, but I would not have it early off there. I would come back and say "Well, going to have school, but we're going to have two full days in December." Uh January, I would keep it as is. February,
I had considered saying move the 12th and and lengthen spring break, but um I also know as a as a teacher, you also need some mental mind breaks in there, too, so I'm leaving it as they have it. Um and leaving uh the March break as they have it. And then at the basically April is the same. And then in May, I'm coming back and saying uh school for all students is done on May 27th, high school and elementary. Teachers' uh last day of school is the 8th. There must be a typo there because I'm now saying come back on June 1st. Um and then I'm saying graduation this year would be on Sunday. And if if the committee then wants to come right back because we said that we're going to do a two-year
calendar, that once this gets approved and the committee would come back and make a proposal uh another calendar and then if they want to propose again to have that Friday the following year, then that's something the board should consider at that time. So, when you look at this proposal, um it's the strong mix of what they recommended and a slight twist from me. So, on the ACT/MCA weeks, teachers have 5 April to 25 April. You have 12 April to 7 May. I don't think there would be any discussion on that one. Say that again. The uh ACT/MCA testing weeks on the teachers' proposal was 5 April to 25 April. Uh the admin proposal is 12 April to 7 May. There was no discussion that one. Oh. Yeah, that should get There's no break in that.
That would still be the That's just a guideline to everybody internally when we have our testing. No, there's no break. This It just lets all staff know that that's when our testing week is. Is that a question? Correct. You The admin starts a week later, I guess is what I'm getting at. Yeah, that That's just a typo, too, because it It'd be So, it would be the teachers for Right. 5 April to 25 April. Yes. Yeah, that's just letting everybody in the building know when the test when we're doing our testing. And I I I get it. I understand why not teachers show up on a Saturday. force on a uh on a Sunday. I get that. Then, in this proposal we could offer high school teachers, if you come on Sunday for graduation then
you won't be there back in April and we'll we'll do a professional development training that night instead of a conference. You're going to do a professional >> No. And again, that's I'll talk through that with Mr. Gensler and with with the staff once this gets approved and we plan it all out. And again, I I want to thank him for all the time and I tried not to adjust too much of it, but those are my thoughts. Does anyone want to take care of this for a resolution or motion to be made tonight? I guess I will. Yeah, I would uh make a motion to accept the the teacher committee's calendar with the changes that the admin department made. So, I'll take theirs, make the adjustments, and I think it's a good idea to wait
with the change of graduation date for another 4 years so we have a chance to give the people a chance to make a plan for adjust what changes will be held by the department. And I probably should clarify it's not only the admin, I think the board of trustees try to make So, a couple of people have talked to me and said So, in the future, is the board open to actually moving the graduation up for 2027 calendar year, but since it's I think it would be totally up to the board. So, that is that would be open to the discussion. Yes, that's what you said. But keep it at a Sunday for >> For this next one. For this next one, for 2027. Yes. Yeah, I I think that's likely a proposal that's coming
and I think there are parents or others who feel strongly about this, you feel free to attend this meeting twice there. Reasoning? Well, I know they're happy on camera and said they had a concern that they were happy on a particular So, why they want to change? They agreed. That's why I think they had an issue. Come here and articulate that word. Yeah, email the department. Thank you. Can I do Can I do things that the cabinet committee will come back with that word? Okay. We have some parents here tonight. Is there any comments on that? I have talked to some of the board members specifically about this thing. Maybe it would be good moving ahead, but for for my son's class to go to the 100 nights post-graduation um with the intent of doing
it following graduation on Saturday. Um and so it does really It is something I would encourage if it is changed that it is changed in a timely and manner that they class has not So, the wheels are already greased. At 4:00, okay. See, now that makes sense. That makes sense. Yeah, that's that's It just hasn't been articulated all of us, at least not to I don't know if any of those parent meetings is times to mention to you that Yeah, so. I really appreciate your consideration on this. The function has essentially happened at this point, and so Well, you guys probably One second. I'm sorry. I'll wait till 2:30. I can always email the social worker. Also, I have a kid that I think would be ready by but then it was made impossible for
us to go Saturday because of the different things. So, your reasoning is for Friday night, you wouldn't You don't feel you would do it on a Friday evening. We would and then a little bit of time because of that Friday night weekend. Here. The time is coming We need a 10 from you. And back in the day they What's that? Excuse me. And then the after the party wasn't overnight. Two events that ended up that ended at 7:00 a.m. And so but there again it's lots of the parents who know that that's what they're planning for. It it is something that works and 18-year-olds can But with class And you've got chaperones but if you leave it at 2:00 it's super crazy. And I understand that when we have families coming to throw a prom
or a graduation party in a ceremony you assume that they'll have a graduation party that same weekend. The logistics of not sleeping through the night, doing all of that. It would challenge You know but And then you don't have a chaperone all night so if you don't have a chaperone for your graduation party that's a safety So Okay. Is this something that we're going to have to It's like I think it's fine if they should keep it on Sunday. Since they've already done it we will grace your house and stuff tomorrow and stuff. They don't want to sue right? All right. So with that No, for 2016 Yeah, I think it's fine. Use the 2016 So with that I have a motion for the calendar 2016-2017 school year to approve the calendar with the teachers
presented teachers committee presented with recommendations to have uh so Do I have a second the motion? All those in favor say "Aye". Aye. All those? The clerk has all those in favor. Next we have the first readings of policies 616 and 617 which is the school district curriculum and accountability and school district insurance and territory and standards. All that. Any needs? Um prior to the short speech the girls from the high school are all in and so are the things that are new and registration of additional goal in the first week of May. We have the reserved anti-drug program up and running and then you know, this is the time here we have one foot in this school year and another in the next school year. So we are working on staffing and students for
the 2026-2027 school year. Do you have anything in high school that you would like to bring before the board? Yeah, actually my bullet um Mr. Genzel and the high school staff has started interviewing this week. Uh we're close to uh at the beginning of April. Um and we have what five teachers retiring. We have two that are um leaving our school. We have seven openings right now. One of those is not certified so we have quite a few openings and we can begin that process and so far uh yeah, the applicant pool has been pretty strong because a lot of schools in the surrounding area in the state are making the adjustments. So we do have some some good applicants. Mid-meeting, I think you're starting is it next week? Yeah, the week of the 27th.
Uh mid-meeting will start that process um as well. Uh just want to remind board members that the tracker still remains in TLC. Uh because as we when we did our great fall wedding, even though we seeded it, the rain had come. So, there's some mud out there. There's some It will be really nice later on. But uh and then we weren't able to have the first uh track meet because the weather didn't want to cooperate with us. So, we'll continue with the TLC process and making sure that it does get fine-tuned. Uh just wanted to let board members know that uh one of the LT projects that we will into do will be the high school hallways this summer. To what we do in the elementary. We'll look to wait a year on that. Uh
we still want to see how that that floor adheres and sticks up. Uh we've had some fluidity there. Coming through and some fine-tuning that we need to do, but we do think it's going to be a really good product. And if it if it over the summer on our cleaning turns out to be what we think it is, we'll look to propose to the board to do the high school hallways in the same material in the summer from the from the January assessment in point that I would really polish and love that it's going to be beautiful. They love it. Uh yes, they they love it because now they'll be able to pull everything out of the hallway and when they put it back in, they'll be able to scrub it and clean it. Uh
so yeah, they they're very happy with it. Um we're currently um putting out bids for crack sealing of our our parking lot on our facility, which we need to do every Um after 2 or 3 years of being in a parking lot, you should crack seal it. So, uh we've just been calling for those bids. Uh again, I'll either take it out of LT or I'll take it out of our summer maintenance fund. Um Kelly's going to tell me to take it out of our remaining uh bond money cuz she wants that all spent by June 30th of this year. And as you guys on the board know, we've been very fortunate with the $3 million grant that we received in the million we've been able to uh make some inroads to be able to
do some of these projects. >> Will that include the sinkhole? Yes. Yep. Is there any way that you can get with the road department and actually have them come out there? Uh we'll try to get something done. Uh um And yeah, we we cuz we go to uh it's going to be in the summer. The sink The sinkhole included Alabama Hall Avenue in the summer uh as well. And then at our main board meeting, um as you know, uh as I said back at the January board meeting, um as we look at our budget, I'll be bringing forth along with me Dean and Troy some recommendations to right-size for our budget uh moving forward into the '26-'27 school year. And then then I don't know if you were going to mention about our student situation.
So, uh Okay, so that's my report. Any questions, committee? Yeah, so I had meant to start the meeting off with this, but uh we were missing a student as some of you have seen in the news reports stating on the resolution that this safety speed return to his family So, with that, uh word of course. Uh driving and I met with the teachers today on next meeting to talk about it and got lots of good feedback that we shared with the board and two things for improvement that we've been hearing through the discussion Yeah, safety council, um they're they're talking about the safety coordinator secretary and uh they're still have to meet with the uh township again to find out what's going on with the paperwork for that stuff on and so that kind of
got tabled. And road construction is supposed to start 25 % of the way. Yes, so That was on time. All right. They were supposed to be starting to install the video fiber week 13 and the last process in that is going okay. Yep, and they have an ATV that was donated and they're going to location back on the park. They had a discussion about where the building is and stuff on the side outside. That's where they place the people and they can't have heat again. And then they were doing some testing on the sirens today. Did they do that? Do you know anything about They said they were going to do short-term testing tape at the hall, okay. Uh fire hall at 85, they had two applications for a fire chief or fireman and the
one person has 20 years experience and one has 9 years experience. So they're looking So far so good. Yep, the carpet is supposed to be coming next week, hopefully. Carpeting the town hall and the rest of it is just meetings and everything solid. Pretty neat. You know, there's a new group of students starting and so So one social media approach is to send it out to all of them. Road construction is going to be They're going to be doing about small ads. Okay. What about the small ads for the police? Once I get that all done, then you're going to come back to this one. So So we're going to be last. That's only up to the bank, right? That's not going to cross. You got that in your section of the budget anyway. Get
it Close to 5 R and then some article 8 section of the article 8 section 5 R together. now? Awesome. I guess we had Alas, it's costing you the same. There will be 5 9. So, we did all of that. I got home the other night first night of the cycle and we get 100 points out of all that. Mhm. All of a sudden And then up there I'm telling them over the weekend we had a lot of rain very up there. So, this is going to be a play day. What happened is they shut the bell off the whole school for a certain day for now. They told me two more bells during the whole second play. So, they didn't mix it all and uh it's still a small and so Like right now
is that everything? The most options will point east is all the hell. That's the back and still all the hard stuff. So, and then they got two cycles though you got to work between here. Like right now there's going to be like that any third you know which That is just one Yes, it's going to be in our schedule for now. So, for that. Next time Yes. Two. Good. All right, I met on the uh just around the education district board on uh 14th and we approved the calendar. We reviewed the budget. We also looked at some future contract language changes. And we did talk about the money balance. We're going to try to limit the money balance to a certain level and any excess will be uh We're going back to the school with
that which is the schools. So, there will be a chance of some additional money coming in because we're talking about the $10,000 that each school pays. If we push that maybe we can bring that back or we'll learn from that. And James will order from the school district to be joining us starting August 1st. Is that the only one who's rejoining us or is it the whole school board? Yes. I just wanted to remind everyone that we need to meet afterwards for 10 or 15 minutes to review the mediation on Thursday. So we'll just go across the room there and update you real quick. With that Mr. Or meeting will be held here Monday the 18th at 6:00 p.m. in this room. I make a motion to adjourn Mr. Connelly I'll second. I'll second. Seconded
by all in favor say aye. Aye. All those Mr. Chairman is all in favor
