thank you all right good evening tonight we will be sharing the results of our school Improvement plans from the 22-23 school year each of the three buildings created goals that allied with our district strategic plan the first goal for each building focused on instruction and student achievement and the second goal focused on culture and climate laughs push that there we go all right so for primary in order for our students to in order to show Improvement in the iar scores of our third grade students the goal at primary because we don't take that test was to increase our students map scores we feel like that was the best way that we could help ensure our third graders are and there on improving their iar scores so nwea sets goals for each of our students based

on average growth and average growth is the amount of growth demonstrated for students in the same subject and sub in the same grade sorry and subject with similar starting achievements so because it's a national test they take first graders from Across the Nation if they start here in the fall here's where we think they could be in the spring last year so in the 21 actually so last year our students in math in the 21-22 school year um we had goodness 51 percent meeting and so our goal was 55 and in ela in the 2122 school year we had 48 percent who met their goals so again we set our goal at 55 and through some amazing teaching and amazing students our growth was amazing in math 75 of our students met or exceeded the

growth goal that nwea set for them nationally about 50 percent of students meet so that's definitely to be celebrated and in ela 66 percent of our first graders met or exceeded the growth goals set for them by nwea and again I would like to contribute that to some amazing teaching uh our first grade team super dedicated to making sure that they are following all of the guidance given to them all of the professional development that has been provided especially post covid and I think our scores reflect that um so we uh certainly creating our goals was a collaborative process our building leadership team members completed an iar analysis the beginning of last school year in the summer at a BLT Retreat we did a deep dive into the data as we receive more data through

the year which iar provides to us as well as uh our Roe Consultants we had a number of discussions we established goals around three areas curriculum and pacing assessment and then instruction we created action steps and then we implemented those action steps that were our best guesses based upon the data we were reviewing we utilized our board approved resources along with a variety of supplemental resources at our tier one levels and provided tier two and tier 3 interventions as well as progress monitoring of students throughout the school year some of the changes we made were to ensure the timeline was appropriate for instruction of all information assessed on the iar some of the things that we found were you know fractions was heavy on the iar and then if we were teaching that after that

would be problematic when we were assessing at that time so we did some tweaking there in addition providing more opportunities for students to engage with digital tasks that they were expected to now do with iar each year they continue to add so even things like click and drag if kids weren't exposed to that regularly it was difficult for them obviously on the iar test um so we imported more opportunities for that as well as the content expectations of iar the goals and action steps created were done so by our classroom teachers but also our specials and PE teachers where they felt or believed this would be relative to their subject areas and would support iar our goal is really you know expecting that you know we're looking at student performance and we really believed as

a as a school our students were not what we were seeing on a daily basis were really not reflected in our iar scores from last year um all right so um just in looking at this you can see um you know if I I broke it down because the goals were set and established by grade level we used our third grade scores from last year to set some goals uh you know obviously you know the ultimate ultimate goal is looking at you know 70 percent of our our students meeting or exceeding standards we had to start somewhere so for math at third grade we're at 25.3 percent of our students meeting or exceeding standards in 2122 it moved a little slightly to 30.11 this year so we're kind of halfway there we really look to

add 10 to our original numbers um we did not quite get there but we're moving in the right direction there fourth grade I'm not moving in the right direction where we would start at 25.3 percent of our students meeting or exceeding standards and that came in this year at 16.76 we did not need that goal there in the fourth grade from Ela our third grade graders last year on in ela we're at 19.9 of our students meeting or exceeding standards and then um move that a bit this year to 25 percent of our students so partially there and then fourth grade they start at 19.9 percent meeting or exceeding last year and then moved that to 32.95 percent this year so they did meet that that goal so administratively a review we've reviewed the results

we're waiting for more detailed iar reports hopefully coming in the next several weeks to complete a preliminary analysis for math our math intervention has provided staff development for all teachers focused on effective strategies some of our action steps involve selecting a number of visual models for learning in math creating and sharing exemplars or rubrics so the students knew exactly what was expected Lesson by lesson unit by unit and then providing time for personalized digital practice as I mentioned before we implemented small group and individual instruction and made tweaks to the timeline of math instruction as well as providing instruction and practice time for concepts related to those standards assessed on the iar this year for ELA we worked with a school-wide consultant who came in monthly in the areas of both reading and writing um

we also provided additional reading resources and support for students at the tier two and tier three levels this year quite really more heavily than we have in in past years and more strategically our reading interventionists and curriculum instruction facilitators provided several professional development opportunities during Institute days morning info shares and early release days additionally one-on-one coaching was offered and provided to our instructional staff and then on August 14th our elementary BLT we'll meet again to discuss the results of the iar I have shared the preliminary reports with our BLT so they've had a chance to be looking and reviewing those over the summer we'll re-establish some new goals and action steps based upon the data that we review similar or like the other buildings are preliminary our first goal was focused on student achievement so

we wanted the percentage of our students that met or exceeded both on math and on reading on the iir to increase by 10 percent um and so for our results for math we had 15.03 percent of our students that meta exceeded in 2122 and that increased to 19.57 and 2223 so we did not meet that goal we increased by about five percent of our students meeting or exceeding for ELA 2122 we had 20.08 of our Stu percent of our students meet or exceed and in 2223 we had 39.87 of our students uh meter exceed so we exceeded that goal um after looking at the results and kind of reflecting on the year the results don't necessarily surprise me because I think that we put more effort into Ela than we did into math this year

as Vinnie talked about we had a consultant that came in and met with our ELA teachers on a monthly basis from school-wide to help with developing and implementing workshop model I gave them a lot of GBC times we would get the teachers a sub for a day so that their grade level counterparts could take a day in the library and work on their curriculum based on the IR analysis we had given them and make sure that it was better aligned with the standards um and another big thing that I think contributed to our ELA teachers or our Ela students making it and our math not making it is um we did our tier two interventions um both during epic but also during some of our core classes so um for math our tier two interventions

took place during the math class so that takes away from grade level content time whereas with Ela we had the reading interventions taking place primarily in social studies so this year we're actually going to be moving the math for tier two tier three will still be administered by our interventionists in smaller groups because that's a more targeted and specific intervention but that's one change that we're already making and then we're also going to do more uh GBC curriculum writing time for for Math teachers this year and then for the second goal for culture and climate our goal was just that we were going to establish a baseline for how our students staff and families feel in in regard to safety security and inclusion um and we used a number of tools to establish that Baseline

so we use the human X survey for staff which was administered in November we issued or we had the five Essentials survey taken which gave us parents students and staff uh feedback and then the PBIS School climate survey which gave us additional information from students so that was for all three of the buildings so since we all had the same culture and climate goal of establishing a baseline I'm just going to kind of summarize what happened in all the buildings you can see what each individual building did on our respective School Improvement plans but I'm just going to summarize everything and obviously despite the fact that our goal was written to establish a Baseline and collect information it didn't mean that we were just sitting on our hands and collecting data without you know still

trying to take action steps to impact our culture and climate so we have building Equity teams in each of our buildings that meant that met and created resources to bring attention to different cultures in our in our school Community um you're at the middle school they got calm classroom twice a day which was at the start of the day and then after lunch to help them regulate themselves after kind of coming in from a heightened State we had weekly Second Step lessons and then daily class meetings where they would have discussions about time management and social interactions and self-regulation and things like that um we brought back dances which the kids loved had celebratory assemblies and we used a program called PBS rewards that allowed our staff to digitally recognize kids for meeting and exceeding

the the student school-wide expectations um and then we also had um staff participate in a culturally responsive teaching book study and articles throughout the year for our staff a number of ways that we address climate and culture was through stat outings coordinated monthly breakfast or lunches delivering treats via treat cart staff giving each other shout outs and also administrators giving staff shout outs and believe it or not by request I held regular staff meetings to help our staff feel more connected and appreciated I was blown away by that when I started I thought I was hearing wrong but staff actually wanted us to answer so we brought those back and it was just an opportunity to bring the whole building together so that you know everybody gets to know each other instead of just the

silos that they work in and then for families we have a variety of committees obviously that we get parent input from including the citizens advisory Council African-American parent advisory committee and a bilingual parent advisory committee we started off the year with our back to school bash through the PTO we've held showcases to highlight for families what students are doing in in the classroom and a cultural fair to celebrate all the diversity and and different cultures that that are represented in our community so those are just it's just a snapshot of of the many activities that we as all three buildings undertook this year to improve the the feelings of Safety and Security and inclusion in our buildings what questions can we answer you said one for Vinnie about so Josh talked about what he's going

to do differently well I I didn't hear if you said you were going to do something different um it I I guess I'm just having a hard time grasping that for all the investment that we've made get 19 16 of a class of 200 kids 32 kids meter out of in the entire fourth grade class meet or exceed what they're supposed to know um and that that same group drop that much in one year so I'm just wondering what we're going to do different number of different things yes that I you know that I'm I'm personally you know looking at but I want to be able to convene with those who are directly in front of the students to make sure that you know there's buy-in and there's um you know a collaborative approach in

determining what is going to work best um I know in our fourth grade uh you know we had five more than half of the team that were new to the team we had some you know some changes uh even during the year at that grade level um so I think that's a variable I don't know if it's the reason um you know I've been looking at there have been there are some resources digital resources that allow while we gave all of the team's practice items for iar and a whole slew of other action steps that you know all were asked to implement which I know that they they did with Fidelity I could see by visiting in the classrooms and you know seeing data coming through you know throughout the school year but I think

there's a need for more and more emphasis and I think sitting down and sharing with I've been able to share with our staff the map growth results you know by teachers so that they could see so BLT has seen that staff members have seen that we'll start the year again with that one-on-one with each of the teachers so that they can you know see this is you know this is what map is looking like this is what IR is looking like for your team um but there are some resources that we could look to to implement I'm working with I've already you know reached out to Mr Gold regarding those and then um I'm speaking with Barbara Nicole our you know folks just to see what their thoughts are and if this would be of

benefit to to our students without getting the the detail yet of iar I I I want to be able to look and see like is it was at a certain you know part of you know of of math or of ela that you know students were struggling with that we can see we need to you know put this throughout the year I think we came up with our best analysis assist with the help of Roe the Roe and what we thought were areas that we we could have an impact on and so we made our best guesses at that maybe that those weren't the areas that you know we needed to be focusing on so I I need to see more data in order to best determine what's going to be the resolve of this

how well does map convert over to iar scores how comparable are they as far as 75 percent in second grade versus 25 and third grade um so one of the reports that map provides us is a projected proficiency report which tells us based on map Performance what map projects our students will do on iar as well as act and I was doing a comparison between what they projected and what our results actually were it's it's not it's not great in in terms of how close it is um it wasn't very accurate so 75 could be like a 50 in iar I mean I I don't remember the numbers off top of my head but I want to say like there's a discrepancy as big as like the students the number of students that they projected

wouldn't meet in Math building wide for us was like 32 percent okay and and I want to say we had like 18 that didn't meet that's just one number that that pops in my head so it was pretty far off yeah so my question then is what are your expectations for third grade with this third grade class coming in that has these High numbers are you still is your goal going to be 10 percent gain or are we expecting them to be I mean a place to start if you said it you know so I mean you know when I had the conversation with Mr Gold last year I'm like okay we gotta shoot for 70 he's like it's not realistic so we thought okay you know baby steps we've never ever had his Focus

before at all you know with IR related to scores and that sort of thing so this is our first stab at it first time doing that um we've always focused on the map yeah hoping that the trend there would be a correlation but at this point we've really steered it towards IR this year because that's really what we're being measured on by the community so so then if we see this third great incoming third grade class perform at a 25 percent it's not that they did 50 percent worse than they did the year before it's just a different examination third grade yeah that's why I was asking how it relates as far as because you gave us I mean it looks like it looks outstanding so and then if we go to third grade and

next year we see they're at 25 we're going to be like well how about standing were they in second grade if I know it's not part of our school Improvement plan but it would it be helpful to have a correlation of like how I mean I can I'm sure linanne can as well and then well Vinnie I mean provide you with how our students like what percentage of our students at each building met were exceeded so you kind of yeah I mean just like Heaven's I mean it's just it's disappointing 20 of kids are meeting and you know I mean and middle school isn't much better what was it 25 percent I mean I think it would be helpful for us to see her night 20 and 30 or Ela was much better 40 but

still it's like Mr Gold just said I mean it's we're not we're not held by the community based on our map schools our map schools look great the answer fantastic even like you're seeing the kids and you hear from the different community members their kids math scores are all pretty good and then we see this and this is like it like blows up in our face I mean it was good that some went up some went down but I mean and as far as the community concerns they like Cove it's over for that they don't you can't blame that anymore yeah we can't use that as an excuse so I think that and you see some other I mean you look at other schools and they're not this bad so I think that's where a

lot of the general concern comes in that is um but I think it would be helpful for us to at least see because how many times we have our kids take at least three map tests a year and if that's not working I mean it may be working for some things but if it's not helping this or the scores we've got I mean our scores were great for us we'll see 75 of our kids are meeting their growth goals in that but yet we're still at 20 of kids meeting math or Ela I mean that sorry it's okay then it's something seems to not be working yeah generally speaking map is I I hope I'm not like if you already know this you can tell me to shut up but um map is an Adaptive

test so it's not giving all of them grade level content it's giving them some things that are much lower if the kids are lower so it's easier for them to show them yes or harder if it's harder but I'm almost like wondering what it's we're giving the kids four tests a year now right three map and one iar is several sessions right several sessions plus whatever else they're um Science assessment yeah so I mean I I personally feel I and I know I'm and this is maybe the wrong approach but we've tried I've changed it now but my personal feeling has always been to look at the percentage of our kids that are meeting at growth targets if if if we have a strong percentage of kids meeting growth targets and map then we are

taking them from where they're at and we're exceeding where they think they should be yes yes problem is that's not translating to the iar correct and that's and so that's why we've had to adjust our focus and you can see all of our goals are centered around iar I just it's just so we're taking and like they said I think we've probably spent more time on Ela this year um but we're just taking figuring out where are our holes and uh in our in our instruction and how it lines with iar that's where we're trying to you know that's what we and we did see it it didn't this didn't I guess doesn't show it that much I've got I should I've got some like longevity data I can show you and we did see

some a good bounce back this year I know that it's still you look at the number and it's like uh me back to where we were horrible yeah for with the exception of fourth grade and uh and I I really I think as many stated it well because I can I mean we're in those classrooms and we see what they're doing we know it you know the effort that's being made and I think that of a strong variable is the turnover in that grade level and at that time I don't think it's you know it's just there are new teachers trying to adjust to the whole teaching thing and then we're throwing this at them as well so I I think that was a variable that was strong this fourth grade typically doesn't test like

that for us so I don't know if that's as much of a curricular issue it's just an adaptation new teachers and but yeah for sure you guys are up here no this is I oh no yeah no they're they're heavily involved and I've met with them multiple times this summer already both of them and uh um this is our primary work you know and uh without a doubt about it like I said I hope that it's hard to celebrate numbers when they're low but I when there are some real positives with that data today too and there's some there's some good strong balance like sixth grade ELA was our strongest bounce uh had the highest IR score that I think we've ever had since I've been here with sixth grade iar we uh we're trying

to take we talk we're trying to take what did we do in that grade level that maybe we didn't do in other grade levels and figure out what's you know they obviously did something and uh because they doubled the performance from the year before that same group of students the prior year doubled the percentage that matter exceeded iar so there's that was a positive a very good positive and I think our eighth grade score is going to break him out by grade level you'll see I thought eighth grade was strong too I think right um which tells me and that's been that's been a common theme for us is that by the time kids get to eighth grade uh they test you know like we've been confident when they leave here they're you know we

have we have strong tests results usually now last two years no so what is a strong test result though I mean is that 25 meeting exceeding is that what you consider strong um I wouldn't consider that strong but it because like 40 percent is right now the average high for Middle School Ela so is that what we're considering strong testing is 40 only 40 of our kids not even 50 are meeting next year yeah so this is where it gets into semantics that are tough because there used to there was a time in the state of Illinois we took the ISAT test and we all 80 of us 80 of our kids met and then all of a sudden the next year they switched tests and now 30 of our kids are meeting no but

nothing changed other than the definition of what meeting a seating is and so now we are you know we're in this I would love to say like Vinnie said I would love to see 70 of our kids mean you're exceeding according to iar I would love to get to that point and and hopefully we will right now we want to see some incremental growth I don't have a number for you because if I say I'm satisfied with 30 I'm really not I would like to see growth of where we're at but um uh I will be anxious to see how we compare to local districts this year um with similar demographics um and then I could probably better answer that I mean I guess is there a state average for there is I mean is

there is the state average 30 percent and it's it's yes we knew that yeah that'll be that'll be right around we'll be right around the state average it's my guess it hasn't come out yet because these are preliminary but we will know that in the fall right because don't they have like your district and then compared to the state yeah right and I mean I think it would help to see that because to say that yeah I know I know what you're saying we will be right with this we will be really some great levels will be above some will be fourth grade's gonna be fun just because the way it tested but uh I I would say based on prior your results we're going to be real right around the average but I hate

to say we're satisfied with that tell us how our students perform ance okay all of our kids so we need to look after it when are we teaching it how are we teaching it how triggers are we teaching it and part of the issue this year is well first of all our teachers have done this is the analysis in January and by that time nearly a couple of months to revive by based on the results so we're getting the results earlier now okay do we think these IR eye our test scores are truly indicative of what our students know I mean like what percentage of things like apathy of like just taking tests or this is just another test or that's a you know I mean like I know they're important but how do we

age I mean it has to be a reason a way to engage what our students know but it's like that's a and I know that the state you know requires us to do this but it's like you know yeah well some districts they eliminate because map is three times a year sometimes they eliminate the middle of the Year task so then it's not four tests for the year with the IR so I mean there's different things you can do after you get the final result if they do that we'll draw a map we will get I mean we're pro we're diving into these results pretty early right now because they're just preliminary but we it's they're pretty important to us so we're trying to we won't get the final results probably till late August early

September we didn't get yeah the Deep now Nicole Stroup who we hired as our curriculum person was the one who from the Roe who helped us with their Ela analysis so she's got a good grasp with that already and um they're working like I said um they're already looking at knowing this is a primary focus so when we get the results how detailed is it like to talk about the fourth grade situation we actually see for each teacher was it like we have one teacher Woods in fourth grade who you would expect actually would have a higher level can we actually see that level of detail or like is it really a new teacher versus old teacher situation or uh I'll have to add many I don't think we can yeah we we can though

but our map data we can get yeah yeah we could we could get that data on our own uh yeah one way or another that we it did show that map we could do that foreign any other questions thank you appreciate your input thank you guys okay uh just some short items here real quick Item B is uh budget update I I try to do this for you after the June 30th every year just to give you a quick synopsis of where we finished the year financially um this year I'm usually pretty conservative in budgeting Revenue I was a little more conservative this year than typical um I there was some interest income that I didn't anticipate taxes were a little higher than I anticipated as well so we ended up at about uh two

million dollars higher Revenue than I anticipated and then uh expenses we were I'd like to be under 95 we were right at 95 percent I love to be around 90 192 expenses weird 95 one of the areas that was a little high was higher that I had talked to you about before was transportation we ended up going higher than our budget expenses because of the uh uh Outsourcing of Transportation expensive driving hiring services that I drive was talking to a local schools local school district who um is similar to our size and they spent two million dollars on Outsourcing transportation so I didn't feel as bad even though I was like I thought ours was bad but they they went pretty high as well so all in all we were at about we increased our

fund balance by about 1.2 million this year the next exhibit is just an energy report I do for you all I every year just kind of shows probably unless you want to keep seeing it looks like we've kind of leveled off I can stop doing this report for you but you can see our totals now we're this year between natural gas electricity around 207 000 so the last three years have been pretty steady 2021 was the year where we didn't have that was the covered year but um that had been the first year of the solar field kicked in as well any questions on exhibit eight or nine all right uh exhibit 10 is just in here for your information we don't have to approve anything hopefully you had time to take a look at

it it's just our board agreements that we we did a training a couple years ago we agreed to put this in front of the board once a year so these are our board agreements if you read through it is there a good reminders of uh for the entire board on on different roles that we have in in our governance so just that's in there in there for your uh for your information item e is welcome back breakfast we're going to do this on Thursday August 17th um and we will do this again in combination with the union and last year it was a the first time we did a breakfast it was a hit so we're gonna do it again you're all invited anybody who's who's not working that day feel free let me know

we'll have you come in and uh just a couple hours in the morning we kind of get kick things off the staff it's so put that on the counters if you're able to attend be great item f is a board policy update first reading it's a this is a very short one and there's nothing in this policy update that I would consider of any uh significant changes a lot of just simple updates nothing that I would say of any content that we should be concerned about or need to discuss but we do need a motion to approve that any questions of the board policy I think no no please have a motion to prove the recent board policy update on first reading motion second Joan Ash all in favor all right the last item is

just a annual just a reminder of my evaluation timeline so that's all I got Kevin anybody any questions on the June employment Report with the additions hey please have a motion to approved the journey with additions yes yes yes any questions on the health dental vision life insurance rates did receive an update last night we got another 15 000 Kickback off so the rates it goes down a little bit so instead of forty thousand dollar rebate they're giving us 55. what was the percentage it was uh the percent increase was 11 now it's down to around ten and a half it's the first time we've taken an increase like this in a long time but I knew it was coming so anybody have any other questions can I please have a motion to approve as

recommended uh the new health dental vision life insurance second Gary and Joe Mex oh yes that's right yes closed meeting minutes we have these up this every year anybody have any questions can I please have a motion to approve the review of closed meeting minutes Vivian all in favor aye aye any opposed eyes have it bolo you want me to explain this at all everybody my uh my only questions were not permanently giving them no no not the Contemporary construction easement yeah five years yeah can you explain us for any yeah they're just uh they're they're doing curbs and gutters along Fish Lake all the way down to 120. and uh I think it's curbing under the whole thing but definitely up here in a carbon guttering and then so they I think we're it's

square feet it's just one of the the very tip of one of our entrances they have to go in and do some work to tie it in so that's it any other questions get a discount on the water for that okay room resolution approving the donation or the temporary donation of easement for Highway purposes with the village motion sorry Jerry yes yes we accepted uh some resignations from like art Transportation driver Caitlin Elementary School social worker Elizabeth Macy's elementary school speech path Chad ziarco Elementary special ed resource teacher Leah Allen Middle School para Ashley Austin fourth grade teacher Lisa Romero Crystal Serafin and Doug Westerman any questions on the foyer requests on the monthly reports for the board the next regularly scheduled for remaining will take place on Monday August 14 2023 a full
