001Oh, it's five o'clock. Um, I will call the board meeting to order. Let's start with the pledge of allegiance. >> Oh, [laughter] >> okay. There's one in the window. >> There's one in the window. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. do. >> Make do. >> All right, we get to do employee of the month first. Start with uh Savannah Linder. >> All right, so I'm going to I'm going to read what uh your your your person wrote. So, >> uh Savannah works tirelessly for her students. She is able to adapt quickly and always faces a challenge head on. Without her hard work and dedication, her program would not run
002well. also on this new position and having worked under Savannah, I would be lost and drowning in all things uh sped paperwork. Without her help, guidance, and willingness to answer all of my relentless questions, I would not be enjoying this job as much as I do. So, congratulations for being nominated for employee of the month. So, you can come up [applause] and >> don't trip on the cords. >> Congratulations. Congratulations. >> Congratulations. [cough] [clears throat] [snorts] >> Yep. Next we have up uh Kayla Bus. >> All right. Kayla, she has the toughest class I visit and teach. She has the toughest class that I visit and teaches with patience and warmth every day. She has true grit. And then also was written, I can think of none more deserving this month. And I think there
003was one more. I missed it. Kindergarten to first grade is a huge jump in expectations for our students. She steps up and delivers for all of them. So congratulations, Kayla. IS ALSO [applause] how are you? >> I'm good. >> Congratulations. >> Good job. >> Congrats. Congratulations. [laughter] >> Thank you. >> Who's our next find? >> Okay, there we go. >> Next we have Mary Stinky. All right, let's see. All right, so this was written about Mary. Dedication to doing a good job and also helps out whenever need arises. Also has good rapport with staff and students. Always helpful and cheery with students and Mary has been with TCU for a long time and it shows in the completion of her duties and time management. Think it would be nice to recognize her for this award.
004And I don't know if Mary is here. >> She's probably all fulfilling her duties. So, [laughter] >> yay, Mary. [applause] >> And yes, Mary does step up a lot. So, very well deserving on that. >> Then last, we have Jenna. >> All right. Jenna got nominated by a couple of people, so I'm going to read a couple different ones here. All right. Every day, Jenna goes above and beyond her assigned duties. She is always prompt at work and has an incredible work ethic. Her continued efforts to allow students to be their best is reflected in only one student receiving an F this quarter. Not that Jenna didn't give her best effort to not let that happen. A shining example of her desire to support students can be seen by her unselfish effort listed below. And
005then she always goes above and beyond for her students when it comes to giving an extra support in class for providing them with additional materials to understand the assignment. She goes above and beyond every day. >> So that's Jenna. >> Is she here? >> No, >> I don't see. So >> Jenn [applause] out of order here, but uh roll call finds all present except for Susie who's absent. She did notify me earlier. So, okay, next we have the administrative report. We'll start with marketing. [cough] Good evening everybody. Hope everyone's doing well. Okay, I have a presentation. Oh, >> should be on a tab. >> He did tell me that my uh did not. [snorts] Okay. Super exciting. I say that very sarcastically this evening because so I'm working um on a new slide deck for
006the district. As you can see, it's a little bit different if you know what the last one looked like and most people probably don't. So, um it's a bit of a refresh um strengthen the consistency and the branding across the district. Um, and as you can see, there's no images on this one particular slide, which as you can see, it's 90% complete and the other 10% is the imagery. So, it needs to be um added still. So, little bit of tweaking. As you can see, it's a work in progress. So, you can go to the next one. Um, I'm also working on district newsletter and some s'mores migration across the district. So, starting around the turn of the year, the exact time frame on that will depending on some of the bond situation. Um, the
007timing on that will vary. So, we're going to launch a new e newswsletter for the entire district, um, which will be a trianual, maybe quarterly depending on what kind of information we finalize to put in it. Um, similar to the principal's newsletters, but bigger, better, more amazing information. Um, and it will be coming out in a s'mores. Um, and with the s'mores, we're migrating from a individual plans to a team's plan to save the district money basically. So, it goes from like I said individual to a teams. So bigger, better, bolder and and with that become comes many more um perks I guess you will you know you'll get like your basic and we're going to go all the way up to you know super golden pro version kind of so a lot more um
008capabilities with that. So that'll be a nice um a nice change for everybody across the district. One of the biggest things that everybody, all [cough] of the principles will get will be the translation feature. So that'll be something that every single principal and anybody who is a member of this new s'mores team will be able to have that. So anybody who does get theirs will instantly be able to translate it to whatever language that they decide to set their s'mores to. So that's a really big thing. So that's kind of the big thing. Okay, next. So, webpage updates. This might not seem like it's a big thing because [clears throat] I'm constantly updating web pages, [snorts] but um right now there's been four or five pages that have gotten some major over overhauls, if you
009will. Um, so graduation page is actually a page on the high school website that was updated last year where there was a lot of high school families that would call in saying I don't know to find any information on the on graduation all of that. So, I had created a page last year and included all of the information for graduation and it's actually upgraded even this year to include all of the information for senior photos, baby photos, um, and a lot of different yearbook information and um, school store information. So, if people wanted to buy um Titan gear, now they have one-stop shop where they can go and go find information with our partners. So, that's that's on a web page now. And same with our Steam page. So, Jeff Balman and I have been
010working together um months ago here to revamp our Steam page um in conjunction with his Steam grants that he's been working on. So, and that obviously is always kind of a work in progress because steam is always moving forward and evolving. So, that's just a that was a big project. And so, it still actually is under construction because we're trying to get some of the recent graduates to talk about some of their projects and some of their jobs that they're in um that are more of the hands-on. some of the weld students who have gone into welding. We want some of them to give us some stories and you know I guess um alumni stories if you will to put onto the website to share. So that's kind of you know something we're kind of
011excited about there. And then they're just links. There's a link on there obviously to the website, but that's something that everybody can go to and look if they want to one day. All right. Um, OptiSign. So, I'm sure everybody's seen all of the TVs throughout the district. There's like 32 different screens throughout the district and they're super fun to play with. Um, and so Opti Science is the software that runs all of those TVs. I totally will give you my computer and just play with that software now. Um, we can display anything. Run videos, run YouTube videos, whatever you want to do. It is super great software where [clears throat] we can display so many different things. Um, it strengthens so much of the reach across the district. Wonderful. Not too keen on the fact
012that we can't stream live swimming. That wasn't very happy. But, you know, can't do paid perview like that, but we'll figure a way around it maybe next year. But that is a really great software and the displays that we could do are just beautiful. So, and then of course, um, I think with Carl, um, how we can get the plugandplay is really it's a good cordless system that works good. And I know that there's a few more aspects of it that we're still learning. Um, so that's a really good process. I've got all of the front office staff across the district trained on it and majority of them are actually using it. I've got to twist a few arms going forward to hopefully get the rest of them to actually jump on board to continue
013to try to use it, but you know, everybody's busy. So, so that's another really good software that you know tool that we're that I'm using. So, okay. Next. So, events, you know, it's a little busy around the district. I'm sure you've heard that. Um, like a week or so ago, I attended the Minsra fall conference here. Um, that was a fabulous event. Um, it was a focus shaping the story. Um, basically it was about 300 of the other Miis across the district and we were basically sharing the different issues that um, other school districts have in their MARCOM departments. Um, we talked about the navigating the diversity in their schools. There was p um panel conversations um how their districts um have the same challenges having sharing the stories within their districts with their communities.
014How it is not just the department's responsibilities to share that story but the rest of the school district's job as stakeholders to help and carry those stories. how you know one person can't carry that entire load. Um and like like I says here you know it takes the village to do it you know and um unfortunately nobody had the the the the final answer on how you know you can fix that instantly. So I wasn't too happy with that. You know couldn't come back with the final answer but it was a great event. Um, I came home with quite a few different ideas. Um, of course, you know, most of the districts were, you know, much larger. St. Paul and Still Water and all of those, they're, you know, Richfield and Eden Prairie little bit
015bigger than us. Um, but they were always very open to, you know, give ideas and welcome with any questions. So, [cough] feel free to call. They kept saying, if there's anything that you need, let us know. um very welcoming. Um we do have the holiday parades coming up. So if anybody's bored on Saturday, feel free to come and hang out in L Center. Dress warm. I heard it's supposed to be cold. Um so yeah, Saturday 6 o'clock feel free to actually 5:30 show up in the LCenter parking lot with your hat on. I will have lights for you to wear. 5:30 Lenter parking lot. Okay, I'll see you all there. Um, we've got three people signed up. So, Kevin and I would love to see you there. I'm going to put you down. Um, then
016next week we have the Montgomery torch light. Um, and again, we h that that week we are actually going to be walking with the band this year. So, that should be a lot of fun. And then we have the holiday sweater fundraiser, which you'll hear about later. >> So, I'm not gonna I'm just gonna skip that one. So, >> we'll skip that. So, some of the other marketing fun highlights, the winter spring catalog just hit mailboxes um with community ad. That was super fun and done and in mailboxes. Um the high school will be soon getting a AVID commitment wall. um which is basically seniors who commit to some sort of further education or um branch in the military after graduation will have a flyer or little mini poster of themselves put up on a
017wall um with a QR um that they'll basically fill out and we'll put it up on the wall and it'll be like, "Hey, what are you doing?" It's like a wall of fame, if you will. Um, so we're going to start doing that outside the fishbowl. Hopefully, we'll get a lot of seniors who want to brag about what they're going to be [clears throat] doing with any luck. So, fingers crossed on that. Um, been visiting lot of lot of classrooms lately being the press for um, little people and it's been a lot of fun. They really like to show off a lot of hams. It's pretty fun, especially when I bring the big camera because um you know, it's much more impressive than a cell phone. And then um a lot of staff have been
018actually sharing a lot of stories. So that's been really good. I've been actually being bombarded by emails about what they're doing with their students. So that that's just been actually surprising me. I go from going to the conference going, "How can I get these teachers to share what they're doing?" to all of a sudden going, "Holy cow, I'm getting a lot of emails and I don't know why." And so, it's really nice. So, that's good. Okay. And then I'm trying to talk faster here. [snorts] Social stats. Um, this is a one-year comparison. So over the past year, we've basically grown about 11,000 visitors. So we've been steadily growing, which has been really nice. Lots of traffic. Um, and it's all been organic. So we do no, well, I should say last year we did do
019some paid ads um for advertising. Um, but because I've been watching the budget and trying to spend it elsewhere and focusing really just on doing organics this year, this is 2025 has been strictly organic advertising. Nothing has been paid advertising. So, this is all organic growth. And so we've literally have grown almost 400 followers strictly by hitting the send button. So that's pretty good. All right. Next. Um and then so this is website traffic. Um and that's only 60-day comparison. So in the last 60 days we've had about 8,000 visitors and about 7,000 new people have visited. Um and again that's all organic. Nothing has been paid or pushed at all. So that's always that's again is a really good thing. And as you can see in the blue there that shows the main pages
020that people are visiting. A lot people are going obviously to the homepage. um a lot of the staff directory and apparently people are going to human resources for some reason and they want to go to academics and to the food services. So I think people want to know what we're having for lunch. So we do get a lot of traffic and that's it. So as you can see we're doing pretty good. I mean, I'm pretty happy with the direction everything's going and yeah, that's pretty much it >> to see what the traffic looked like prior to the bond because if that was in a 60day snapshot that would have been around the vote time of the bond. So, what did it look like, you know, previously? >> Well, it's been going up steadily. Okay. I
021mean, so I mean, we we generally have been growing about what was it um the last one it was we get about 10 to 50 new followers a month on average. So without that, so with the bond they were paying, I should say they were posting I mean there was a few reels and different things that they were doing but I post more than they did on a regular basis. So I I don't have that instant. I mean I can go back and pull those specific months. I mean, I have every month I pull it so I know what I have for each month. >> So, >> I was just curious, you know, comparison, how much more traffic did you have over the past months? >> I I can find that and I can email
022it to you. >> So, okay. Yeah, but I >> guess >> Yeah, it would. Yeah, I'll find that and I'll email it to you. >> But, yeah. So, but it's overall I mean it's been pretty good. I mean we've grown over the past year. I mean it is it's nice. I mean we do spend you know I should say I spend a lot of time you know sending stuff out and having that traffic. So I mean it's nice to know that we are getting a lot there is a lot of interaction with social media and you know either people spend too much time on their phones. I mean we know that but you know it is what it is. So all right any other questions? It's like I said, it's a work in progress. >>
02372 days. >> No, I'm just kidding. >> No. Um, well, you know, it it's master slides, so you know, it doesn't take, you know, copy and paste the masters and then you just move. So, no, it's just a couple hours of copy and pasting. >> Once you get the shapes in the general layout, it's not too bad. So, now I just need, like I said, drop in some photo frames. So then I got to, you know, show the boss. So >> will the senior wall be including all seniors or just aid seniors? >> All seniors. So they're going to anybody who does a senior survey, you know, for graduation when they get that survey that they're supposed to fill out for, you know, graduation. So, >> you know, for those seniors who fill out that
024survey that they're supposed to fill out, just saying. >> I also wanted to ask, how do you know who's the website? >> I have absolutely no idea. It's a thing on the back of the website. Um, it's an analytic something >> the web bugs know. That is above my brain capacity. That's just what the Google Analytic page tells me. It says new visitor and returning visitor. So, I trust the Google people. They're much smarter than I am. So, >> thank you. >> You're welcome. Goodbye. >> All right. Good evening everybody. Tonight, this is a funky chair. I'm going to share some things from food service that we are thankful for. Um twice a year we have the health inspector come from both counties to our um kitchens and give us a inspection. We had ours
025uh just finished up our one in lease center. So, all four have been completed and we have no orders issued. They don't issue a perfect score anymore, but it is a perfect score because uh he comes in at both sites. Both county inspectors come in, spend about 45 minutes on site, visit with the staff, ask us is there anything new, any new equipment, uh do we have any concerns? And then they go around our kitchen, temp everything, look at our temperature logs. They go in all our food storage space, make sure everything is stored properly. They look for dates of expiration. Um, and then they're there during service. So then during service, they're in temping all our food, all of our cold food, all of our hot food, temping the milk coolers, and then they
026come back and visit with staff and kind of go over anything, any concerns, and then he pretty much leaves. [clears throat] So the one nice thing that we know is all of our county inspectors come in and they're there to help us to protect our kids, protect our program. And I'm really proud of our staff because it's a lot of work to, you know, be able to do that. have him come in, be comfortable, and I always tell him, don't be nervous because he's there to help us and to protect our kids, and that's the most important thing. So, he'll come back um both from the both counties. They'll both come back before the end of the school year. So, before the end of May, they'll come back a second time. So, um kudos to
027our staff. Um I'll share some kitchen updates. All the new serving lines that we ordered last year have now been delivered and they're in installed and they're looking great. Um I don't know, you guys at the high school have probably seen it. We have LED lighting now. We have heat lamps on the hot food. It looks really nice. Um, we have uh two new combi ovens that came to our other schools. So, all of our schools have combi ovens. They all have smokers. Um, I'll be reaching out to Centerpoint Energy again to get our rebates. We usually get an energy rebate anywhere from 1,800 to 2400 per unit. So, that'll be kind of nice. Um, okay. I have some pictures up. So, the one on the left is a harvest of the month promotion. That's
028actually a yogurt parfait that we served for breakfast. Um, it had sweet potatoes in it that we seasoned with a lot of pumpkin spice and then we blended it with the yogurt and then served it with graham crackers and a little bit of whipped cream. And then the middle photo on the top is our new [snorts] smoothie station. So, we're running homemade smoothies. Um, we'll be doing them more often in December. We just tried them out a couple times in November and the kids have really enjoyed it. I don't know. Ladies, have you been able to have the smoothie smoothies this year? Have you guys had the smoothies at all? >> Oh, girls. >> All right. When you come when we come back in December, >> I got to start getting breakfast now. >> Yeah.
029Come on in. Come on in. It was kind of cool. I had them up against a breakfast sandwich. And the kids love our breakfast sandwiches, but all the smoothies went before the breakfast sandwiches. And the kids are like, "Are they gone?" I'm like, you know, I'm blending them. I'm thinking, trying to guess because we're doing about 210 for the kids in the high school. So, I usually try to make 50, but I'll be kicking it up a notch there in December when we come back. Um, the picture to the right is our omelette bar. We do omelettes on Wednesday. We have an omelet station. So, I'm making them up. I know, right? It's fun. So, I get to like be on display when I'm in the kitchen. So, it's kind of fun when I get
030to flip omelets in front of the kids and we get a little flame. So, I always do like a vegetarian one and then I have some that I do in a variety of meat. Um, pretty much, believe it or not, we have kids that love spinach and tomatoes and their cheese omelets. So, ladies, again, omelettes on Wednesday, but come early because I start at like 7 o'clock because we only can go till 7:45. So, if you're a driver, come in. Um, so that's been going well. The kids enjoy it. Um, so we're looking to expand the smoothie bars to the elementary schools. So, something that I'm going to look into, and I talked to Kevin, is I'd like to get some mixers or blenders for the elementary schools and get those going for probably we'll
031try it out in December there, but moving into January for the elementary schools cuz I kids think the kids will really enjoy it and it's simple. It's parfait, yogurt, bananas, strawberries, berries, and we just blend it with a little bit of juice and it Yeah, the kids enjoy it. So, um those are some things that we're doing for um the kitchen. And then for breakfast um something that I want to share this summer I reached out to Mr. Epan and Lee Center and I was trying to figure a way how do we get access for all for the students to come in for breakfast because normally the kids would get let in the buildings either from the bus or if you came in by walking to school or driving you know your parents getting dropped
032off you wouldn't couldn't get in the building till quarter 2. Um the year before Tony uh Mr. Uh Johnson in Lawndale opened up the building at at the 30 mark, so 8:30, so the kids could come in that got dropped off from their parents so they could have breakfast, give them enough time to eat. So this year, u Mr. Epen allowed us to have the building open at 7:30 for the kids that get dropped off or walk to school. So now the kids are able to come into the building, go directly to breakfast. That's how they get in the building. They have to eat breakfast and then sit down, have some time in the morning with their friends. and we've shown an increase of 42% in breakfast participation in Lee Center. It's been really nice.
033We're up to like almost 200 kids for breakfast and before we were at 130. So, it's been nice to see them come in. They're pretty excited and we um have a little bit of a new setup in the center because they're um they got the new sliders that we had at the high school because we don't use that process anymore. And that is what holds their hot food. So, now the kids can come up and grab their hot food and then they've got their cold food and then they have the hot food that they can pick up at the end. And so it's kind of I don't know cool little setup for them in Lee Center and I think I think they're enjoying it. Um promotions. Um I think Anna talked a little bit about
034the optic sign. You probably saw some of that. So we're getting our menus up on the OpticSign images in the cafeteria. So you can see how lunch menu is promoted. That goes up right away in the morning. So when the kids come in for breakfast, they can see what's for lunch. And then um it allows us to do any kind of like the photo on the left there. It'll show like Chef Tony, he was in, he did an omelet station and then what he served for lunch that day so the kids can see it ahead of time and that usually gets run by Anna a couple days before during the week. Um, so that's been working out great. I just send her the slides and that's something that she's going to train me on so
035I can do that because we ended up starting to do that in the elementary schools. We're advertising some of the stuff because the middle school kids really we don't get very good um menu counts or meal counts from them. So, we're kind of like guessing. We have like this crystal ball and our lead cooks are like, "What are they going to like today?" And we batch cook. So, we're doing our best to guess what they're going to eat. But, I think if we're able to get it on a screen, we might get a few more kids that understand what they're ordering. And, you know, we're going to try anything, but it'll just be nice for them to see what's on the menu. Good way to promote our program and nutrition. Um, so this month we
036did the chicken wings. It's zatar and sumac and that's what you're going to have tonight that I prepared for you. Um ladies, did you have the chicken wings? >> I have. >> All right. Sweet. Well, you're going to get them again. So, tonight So, and then next month we have a spicy bodega beef tot. So, a bodega is like a um street style like convenience stores that they have in Spain. So, they're doing a different kind of tot like a loaded tot. So you'll have like cilantro and uh fresh jalapenos and yeah, a little bit different seasonings. And I think I'm going to get some mango salsa in. So be kind of fun things for you guys to top on your um on your tots that that week that we do that in December. So
037those are some things that we're excited about. Um we have let's see, Chef Tony came in the fall and then in the wintertime in January we actually have two coming out. I've got Jamie coming out to all the elementary schools. Chef Jamie will be here. And then I just got an email from Chef John. He's coming out. He just got back from Japan. He was just on channel 5, whatever that afternoon show is called, and he's been on the Fox. >> Yeah, he was on Twin Cities Live doing his Thank You talking about his trip to Japan. So, um, he'll be coming out. He's going to do a a moon burger. So, it's like there's a moon celebration in Japan and he's going to come and do that for the kids at the high school
038in January. So, the week of the 5th. So, get your calendars open and come out. Um, what else is happening? Um, I think that's about what I have. Do you guys have any questions about food service? >> I just made the comment that our lunches never look like that when I was in high school. >> They didn't for me either. >> It's come a long way. >> Yeah, we had [laughter] >> You didn't have the can that you opened up. Anyway, that looks amazing. >> Thank you so much everybody. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I was sharing with Carl. I'm trying brine turkey this year. So, I'm getting a fresh turkey from Ferndale Market out in Canon Falls on Tuesday. So, I don't know if you guys have ever done it, but it's a beautiful market.
039It's a turkey farm out in Canon Falls. It was on the news, the local news, and I'm like, I'm going to go try it. So, yeah, if you ever get out there, they carry all local produce and local cheese, and yeah, they have local bakery and local pies. So, Ferndale, Ken Falls. All right. Thank you. [snorts] >> All right. Next, I'll see a motion to approve the agenda. >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll assume that's a second. Have a motion by Chris. >> Did he make the motion? >> He did. >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> You going to second it? >> I did. Yeah. Second it. >> Okay. >> Speak up, Chris. >> I have a motion by Chris Bless, seconded by Marsha Craft to approve the agenda. All those in favor? I. Those
040opposed? Motion is passed. 6-0. All right. Under the consent agenda, we have approval of minutes from the October 27th, 2025 board meeting. Under personnel, we have employment ending. Lisa Spikers, PAR professional. Amanda Slottic, assistant speech coach. Tyler Meyer, custodian. Mitchell Bodro, um, par profofessional. Kristen Denzer, girls swim coach. Robin Fleming, custodian. Under new hires, we have Gina Lithanol, uh, long-term sub for the A science, uh, and tech and foods. Jordan Simonette, assistant wrestling coach. Brady Spiker, technology [cough and clears throat] network support site tech. Ramona Marquez, paraprofessional. Jill Gangel, junior high girls basketball coach. Amanda Squire, school nurse lndale. Approval approval of bills in the amount of $1,58,82252. and the finance report. I'll seek a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second it. >> All right. I have
041a motion by Hillary Birdsell, seconded [snorts] by Trevor Hone to approve the consent agenda. All those in favor? I. >> Those opposed? Motion is passed. 6. No open forum tonight. Uh student schoolboard reps. >> Hi guys. >> Hi. Jules Ryder. I'm the student council president. >> I'm Emily Kuhinka and I'm the secretary. >> Gavin's at a um at a hockey thing tonight, so he wasn't able to make it, so Emily came to step into his place. Great. >> Um we're going to start with some just a couple takeaways from the MSBA student schoolboard development event. Mr. Babcock went with us to that and that went amazing. um we made a giant um group me with all of the student representatives [laughter] and that's been active and we all we keep texting on there and everyone's
042like sending out what's going on with their school and it's it's pretty cool to see all that. Um it's never I've went to the past two and it's never been like that before. So that's that was cool how much came out of that. >> You had a good good dynamic group. >> It was. Yeah. Mhm. I'm friends with all of them on Instagram now too. That was very that was very important. [laughter] Um, a lot of just the takeaways were just getting the student body involved with the school school board and getting students pers student perspectives and voices heard and then being able to bring negative things as well as positive things and just like um what's going around on in the school to the board. But it's like I've never thought that I've that
043I'd have to think so hard to try and think of negative things cuz like I've been sitting here for the past like 10 minutes trying to think of something negative to bring to the board and I just can't think of anything. So I guess that's good. Um and then I'm going to go into just the kind of recap stuff. The James and generosity for November the it's the first one. Yeah. >> Right. Before you do that, you got to talk about the announcement that you just got today after or >> that's that's later. That's later. >> That's later. I'll say that later. [laughter] Um, so this is our Jamie's generosity that student council does. This is the one for November. Um, Carter Belkkey and Dakota Meadows are running this one. Um, they we keep working
044with the school board, not the school boards, the student councils from the middle schools with these and they're always really eager to be a part of it. Um, this one's going to be this Wednesday and the proceeds are going to act on Alzheimer's. It's a really good cause and everyone usually gets really into it. We have a staff donation of $2 and we do an optional donation for students of for $1 and we walk around during the first hour and usually kids just give us like the whole handful of change that they have just random in their backpack. But usually it comes out to be a pretty good total especially from the middle schools and the elementary schools. They get really into it because their parents like um remind them about it and give them
045the dollar to bring. But I don't know. I I really like that we do this and it's it's a good thing that we keep doing and I'm excited to just keep doing it. Um and then if you go to the next one then this is the sweaters for support. Um me and Gavin are working with Miss Hoy on this. Um we should be getting our our sweater soon and we're going to be doing advertisements and commercials and stuff. [laughter] So we're excited for that. I thought it'd be a lot easier if you guys would be able to like see to see it on the screen. Um I'm just going to read you the little um blurb that I have for it. So it's this holiday season TCU student council is selling these holiday crew necks
046to support open arms of Minnesota. This Minneapolis-based nonprofit prepares and delivers free medically tailored meals to critically ill motans and their loved ones and caregivers. During wintertime, they do a giant turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and special meals for Christmas as well. When you buy one of the sweaters for support, it's $25. um a percentage of the total profit will be donated to Open Arms of Minnesota to help them with their meals during the holiday season. And then on Tuesday, December 23rd, which is the day before um the Christmas break, we're going to ask that everyone wear their crew necks in support of the cause. And then to just kind of tie it into our regular James Generosity program, kids can also wear just regular pajamas or ugly Christmas sweaters or just Christmas anything. Um, and
047then they'll al also have the opportunity to give a cash donation that day if they didn't get a sweater. So, they can still give to the cause if they choose to. Um, and then it's already up and running in the school store. And we're excited for it. It's going to be good. Um, and then the TCU holiday tree is going to be going up on December 1st. And then also we're starting the pop tab drive on December 1st where um each advisory gets a little bucket that says pop tabs on it and stuff. So then each all the kids can put in pop tabs to their advisory and it's such an easy thing for everyone to collect because constantly kids are walking around with energy drinks. So it's such an easy thing to just rip
048off your pop tab and we all the teachers we put them like right by the recycling bin that it's sight in mind. Um, but we've had great results with that. I love going I take all the pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in the summer with my with my family and they're always like super duper thankful for it. And my dad works for Waste Management, which is who does the um pop tabs, the like the aluminum for the Ronald McDonald House. So, he kind of knows how it goes. So, that's really interesting to see both perspectives of it. Um, student council did a Titan Pride ticket grant prize for quarter 1. We started we started this last year. We um partnered with the Titan Pride committee just because we wanted kids to get more
049into the Titan Pride tickets. Um, so we started doing the grand prizes. Um, this quarter we did five portable powder bank power banks. It was the same um prize that was given out at prom and they're amazing power banks. I use mine all the time. I just went on vacation and I used it for the plane and it was super awesome. So, everyone was really loving that we were giving those out. Um, art team went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art for a field trip on Friday. That went really well. Um, Klatch the Klutchki Royalty did their first Royal Readers last Thursday and we're planning to do a lot more. We're It's such a fun thing for us to do. We love being around the kids. Emily wants to go to school for elementary education,
050so it's kind of right up our alley. Yeah, they were so excited. It was just adorable. [laughter] >> Um, NHS is doing a fee my starving children over Thanksgiving break and they're also doing a Thanksgiving food drive. So, if you have any have any food lying around, be sure to give to the food drive. Um, and then I'm attending to the MSBA schoolboard development event to be a part of the student panel, which was what he was mentioning earlier. I just figured she just got back to my email today and I forwarded it to Mr. Babcock, but I'm really excited to be a part of that. So, that's a good that's a great opportunity. It's an honor to be a part of that. So, thank you for volunteering me for that. >> Yeah, it's the
051MSBA conference. >> Yeah, she'll be at the student booth and be [laughter] able to work with the students to talk. So, yeah, pretty cool. >> Um, boys and girls basketball just started. The girls have a varsity game tonight and they're playing Lake Crystal. So, if you want to stay after >> um fresh freshman, sophomore, and junior class officers were just established today. They were just sent out with all the officers. Um, senior class officers were established beforehand just for us to get all the senior business started already. Um, TCU breakfast with Santa is coming up and the Kajki royalty are attending that as well as a bunch of holiday events. Um, Emily and her family were working on lighting up the float and everything. So, >> yeah, >> it looks amazing. We're excited for it.
052>> Um, the Adams Family musical was a big hit. We heard a lot of great things. The actor for Fester, Nathan Glockner, actually shaved his head for the role. It looks It looks pretty good. So, >> yeah. [laughter] Yeah. >> Um, and then LS Music plays fourth in the 50 and seventh in the 100 for State Slim. So, that was a big accomplishment for the school. So, that's kind of everything for this month and the start of next. So, >> yeah. >> Cool. >> Any questions? No, I would just comment just because you mentioned that Adam's family um I was able to go to it on Friday. It was uh it was phenomenal. I think the casting [snorts] was >> I've heard a lot of great things. I'm sad that I missed it. >> Amazing.
053>> Yep, it was good. Yeah. So, it was Yeah, I was very impressed. So, and I had just gone to the Guthrie a few weekends ago, so [laughter] that [cough] they did a very very good job. >> So, >> but thank you. >> All right. Umformational items. Uh enrollment update. >> All right. So, we went down slightly. We had two two families move out with uh three kids. We had homeschool and then we had I hope the rest of our um students that come up and do work and then go back down south. So, that's where we're settled at right now. So, we're sitting right where we pretty much always do. Um I don't know, nothing nothing over the top. Few grades up, few grades down. Um we're always right where we are right now.
054December again is pretty much where we settle for the rest of the school year for the most part. So, we'll see what we'll see what December then brings. I never like the eb and flow of the first five months of school with enrollment, but nothing over the top. >> All right. Next, we got uh Thanks, Kevin. Next, we have committee updates, community ed advisory. >> Uh we met at the end of October. Uh Anna mentioned that the catalog already went out. It was in the mail, my mailbox on Saturday morning, I think it was. Um December 5th, the Nutcracker uh theater program is coming here to the high school and they're doing one show during the day. Um and all of the second, third, and fourth graders from the entire district are coming >> to
055the pack to see that. And then there will be a community event at night at 6. Um and that's paid for by a grant. Um uh you have seen online that we got a new system to uh use for community ed. Um RX >> Ax um took over. Um they were both like one company. Well, they worked together and then they kind of had it falling out, but anyway. So we went with the other company um that uh charges the credit card fees to the people and not to us. So, we are hopefully going to be saving some money on that. Um, and then we, um, approved the TCU community needs assessment, um, which is a statement from the, um, obviously the state to get funding from, um, the state for that. And then there
056was one more thing. Um, we're just working on staffing. Um, Lawndale kids zone is is massive, but we've talked about that before. So, trying to get somebody else there. Um, and then possibly getting a kid zone coordinator back. So, I think that's it. >> Thank you. Do you want to go right on it? Were you in Are you in QCOM? >> Mhm. >> Yes. >> Um, all right. UCOM, we met last Wednesday. Um the majority of our conversation was talking about professional development and the fact that staff need more time to work together to get professional development. Um you can see it's listed later here down below, but we would like more days for the staff to be able to come and work together. Um it's just kind of what days work best. Um the
057high school obviously has different needs than the elementary schools. Um, we talked about the two days before Christmas break and possibly taking one of those, but I'm going to say as a teacher, sending them to school for one day that week is just kind of like not great. Um, and so then we talked about that Monday after um, which would be January 5th. Um, and then the day after conferences, which would be February 27th, um, to get them to be able to work together. Um, more standards are coming down from the state. there's just always going to be more and more after co and trying to pick up and it's it's not getting any easier and so if we can give them the time to work um that would be really great for comp. So
058[snorts] that's all I got. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Curriculum. >> This is the first time I've had to give an update. So it's been a while. Um yeah, I met with Elida was two weeks ago. Um and Kevin was part of that meeting. So, we kind of got up to speed of where we're at and where we need to be. Um, we haven't met as a group, which we used to do this long ago. We had uh home or homeowners talking work. I'm so sorry. We had um parents on uh on this committee along with a lot of other staff involved too and and principles. So, um getting where we where we need to be. We discussed programs that may be using that we don't need to use. is we discussed some trainings um
059of sending some staff too that is needed. Um we also talked about um just a lot of follow-up stuff. Can I think of um what else we have a list of some follow-ups? Um I didn't know I was going to be on spot tonight. So um correct me if I'm >> in there. Okay. >> Yeah, we talked about the PD days. I think that was our first conversation that we had. So that's where that conversation derived from of what the staff is needing and and that's what Elida is hearing a lot more and more of what the staff needs. So um finding the perfect day. It's not going to be perfect for everybody but we have to make sure that it uh it works for everyone and know that we are willing to or willing
060to have the conversation. So, you know, be thankful that we are having the conversation to add two days to the calendar uh for that. And we are weing or meeting on a on a monthly basis moving forward. I know math is what's on the docket moving forward. So, that will be starting or has it started? Yeah. Already today was it? Yep. So, um math is on the the the docket for curriculum moving forward. Did I miss anything? No, I think we're good. We talked a lot [laughter] just about everything. So um again it was a goodformational meeting start forward and so we'll have something more uh moving forward. So we'll be meeting on a monthly basis. >> Thanks Marshall. >> Yep. >> Under new business uh donations. >> Well we did meet with finance too.
061Oh today >> it's not on my sheet so I just Do you want to do an update on finance update? >> Good. Go ahead. >> Yeah. Um really uh audit is due December 1st and we're coming down to the wire and um sounds like Julie our business director will be getting that in this week yet. So >> she's put a lot of work into it. So yep. >> Okay. Now we're on to new business. Sorry Hillary. >> That's okay. Be resolved that the school board of independent school district 2905 accepts with appreciation the following gifts donations and permit their use as designated by the donors. Barton pumpkins 20 pumpkins TCU Montgomery kindergarten class Jeff Balman planner and 35 pumpkins MNT and Lee Center PBIS [clears throat] and steam programs David and Mary Krennic $1,000 high

Le Center Student Needs, The Auto Club Group, $42,3.80 for the Lee Center School Patrol. St. Mary's thrift store center $100 for the center adopt a family. >> All right, I'll need a second. >> Second. >> All right, I have a resolution introduced by Hillary Bzil which was seconded by Chris Blesock. This will be a roll call vote. Uh Cindy, >> yes. >> Marsha, >> yes. >> Trevor, >> yes. >> Josh is a yes. Chris, >> yes.
063>> And Hillary, >> yes. >> Resolution is passed 6. Next, under staffing, um I'll be seeking a motion to approve uh to approve adding an additional special services teacher. >> Can you explain this a little bit, Kevin? >> Yep. So, we've had a couple of high need students move into the center um which has increased our well, we are teetering anyway, increased our hours for um the services that our current teachers are providing. Um and so I checked with uh our finances and we don't use all of our sped funding. So, this will be covered under spit bonding. >> Okay, I'll make a motion. I'll second. >> All right, have a motion by Trevor Hone, seconded by Chris Vestock to approve an additional special services teacher. All those in favor? I. >> Those opposed? [clears
064throat] Motion is passed. 6. Okay. 11th grade ACT test. Um, I'll seek a motion to approve paying the ACT test fee for the 11th grade students. >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. Right. I have a motion by Marcia Craft, seconded by Hillary Birdsel to approve paying the ACT test fee for the 11th grade students. All those in favor? I. Those opposed? Motion has passed 6. Okay. Traverse Stu Library System. uh $1,000 grant. Um I will seek a motion to accept the $1,000 grant from the Traverse Desoo Library System for the Montgomery 5 through 5th through 8th Media Center. I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. [snorts] All right. I have a motion by Trevor Hone, seconded by Chris Flesock to accept the $1,000 grant from the Traverse Desoo Library System for the Montgomery
0655 through8 media center. All those in favor? >> I. Those opposed. >> Motion has passed or yeah, motion has passed 6. Okay. Uh, additional professional development days for staff. Um, I'll make the motion um to approve adding two professional uh development days and which would decrease two days for students. The proposed days would be January 5th and February 27th. >> I second that. January 5th and what? >> February 27th. >> So it's Monday after break and then Monday after or sorry >> Friday after conferences. >> Correct. >> Can we get a little bit of an explanation here of what I was obviously brought up of what's going on? >> One of the questions that you know we talked about and you'll have to explain it better that you're probably way better at it than I
066am, but teachers are feeling very overwhelmed right now. there's a lot of new things that they're having to go through. The read act has been one of them and so um and that is affecting our our KA staff um where it's not much in the high school but teachers are needing another day or two to get caught up work together collaborate and I think that's a big part of it. I know that we've heard that workshop was um was taken very very well for the fact they got a lot of time and we always say teachers need time. They need time. They do. They need time to collaborate. They need time to work on whatever they're working on to be able to again do the things we want them to align right all the way
067through the schools. Why we did this a couple years back? Um, the stipulations that we talked about were this is a structured time. You cannot take time off. And that's going to be very, very clear. That was something that Hillary and Aladdin and I talked about this afternoon because we wanted to make sure that we're all on the same page with this that it is going to be mandatory that you have to be there. And if you're not, again, things are things do happen. They have to make up that time on their own time. And so this isn't just going to be something that is, oh, it's a free-for-all. do what you need to do. We all know that KA has to do the reading act. They're going to do their data um that they
068need to collect so that they can move forward with all of that. Um I want to be able to give the staff the time that they're needing in order to be efficient in the classroom with our students. And if this is what it takes, um then so be it. And if we need to change our calendar for years in the future for this so that we don't have to go through the do this and randomly put out calendar dates, I want to make sure that we're doing our due diligence in regards to that. So that's hopefully this will be perceived well by our staff and and and obviously supported by our board. >> Do we anticipate I know you brought up future years. Do we anticipate future years ending in two days? Do we >>
069Well, I think that was a conversation that we need to have moving forward. Um, and if that's if that's the case, maybe it's one more day and we'll see how it goes this year. Again, math curriculum is going to be another thing moving forward. >> So, there's going to be a lot that, you know, if you think about it, we on our own days, we probably take work home, right, for moral professions that we do. Teachers probably do the same, but also where is the time for them to collaborate with their their their co-workers? There isn't there isn't a lot of time for that. Correct. So this is giving them that time in a structured format to be able to do so. >> How many how many PD days are we up to right now?
070>> How many do we have on the schedule for this year? >> Here I got the challenge. >> Well, two of them were designed as work days. Can I talk? Am I allowed? >> Yeah. So sorry. >> I was kind of directed towards you. >> Okay. Sorry. I I sometimes feel bad when it's in a public meeting. Um so we had a half a PD day on November 3rd because it was conferences. We have a 1.0 no PD day on January 20th and a one point uh basically a half workday half PD day on profession or on March 27th. So that would equal out to be 2.0 >> throughout the rest of the year. >> Can we make sure that these days are scheduled to come into next year's? >> Yeah, we're going to reook
071at the calendar again for next year and going forward. Something I brought up at the last work session is when the calendar committee approved next year's calendar, they actually removed one of the two days. So we're already at a deficit next year. So if we add two more days to the calendar next year, it's going to [cough] be an additional day than what we're normally used to. >> Does that make sense? >> So to make it equal, you need to add three. >> Correct. if we want to continue with this >> process. Are you involved on why why did the calendar committee remove a PD day when we've been hearing about that the teachers need a break now since co I'm sure they have a whole time but we've been giving them more more time
072off and whatnot since co why would they take one away at the calendar committee >> so the way from my understanding I was not at that meeting I had a child care situation from what I was told the way the holidays lined up on the calendar it was when we normally would it wouldn't have made the most sense. Um that is what I was told but I wasn't there so I >> we can go back and revisit that. >> Yeah. >> And Sydney and I are on that I think we're meeting in December. >> Y and I will make it clear that they are not work days. Um I think uh Hillary and Alida got that very clear when >> No, they they want the time to work together and that all of our kids
073from all of our elementary schools come in >> with the exact same experiences and knowledge and they've done the things. We need to give them that time to to work that way. >> I like the uh addition of the time. Um I would just say if this gets approved tonight, we share it with parents as soon as possible. I think January 5th is still >> and that's kind of why we look for that versus before Christmas break because >> that was my concern less than 30 days away for child care >> and I had reached out to Lane and I asked him like can you redo kids zone and he said that once we decided something he would get his staff scheduled if we needed him to. >> Yeah. When the principles were talking about
074that December date which makes sense could do January 5th as well. is there's you can correct me if I'm wrong, but there's some significant testing that's happening right before that and they want to review all of that testing to get us ready for the next quarter and semester moving forward at test actual testing time. Um, so they want that time to be able to collaborate to be able to tear out some of our kids, get the extra support that they need going into that time. Um, and it felt like it was the right spot to put it coming off of a huge testing uh piece that we're having going on right now. >> Well, that just sets >> Oh, sorry. No, that just sets them up for two days because then we get into testing
075season and you don't have time to regroup and do and it just it it sets everybody up for success. >> Well, then there was a lot of the conversation too um that it was a good timing for some but not for others as far as buildings go. And to my and honestly if it it's got to be all for all, you know, one for all for one kind of a thing. It's not peacemilled according to that. So, it's got to be it's all or nothing in my eyes. And I I said that too. It's got to be all allin and it has to be structured and there's no excuses. You have to be part of this. >> No, the high school is the toughest because it was talked about doing two days back to back
076which when you have different departments like the high school does, it becomes a lot more I don't say tricky but it's a lot more difficult to like plan that much time back to back. Um so that's why it eventually got split. Uh, so there was a talk about doing two days back to back. Um, but the high school ends up being usually a little bit more of the the tougher process when you're doing PD days. >> So, is this more is this for professional development or giving the teachers a break? >> No, professional development. >> Professional development. >> What I mean, I've chatted with a handful of people on this. Similar to like our long-term facilities maintenance plan, our teaching and learning plan has been derailed for a handful of years now. And now with
077all of the requirements from the state, we are playing massive >> catchup and our educators. I mean, I we spent a whole day with our math committee today and we like barely skimmed the surface and some of them have been educators, math educators for their whole career and they were overwhelmed leaving today. So, it would be strictly for professional development. We also have to remember we have close to 20 educators currently completing their 70our training that they're currently doing outside of contract time and that has been a huge lift for that crew this year because they did not get the um same space as the crew did last year. >> So it would be used for per for professional development and did statewide initiatives. A few years ago, we had a PD day and it
078was a bean bag tournament at one of the schools. >> Yeah, that won't happen. >> A bean bag tournament. [laughter] >> Oh, yeah. No. >> So, PD, >> but that sounds fine. >> Well, [laughter] not after we found out after. So, but again, that was a great comment and that only solidifies what I said. It needs to be structured. >> This isn't, you know, blowoff steam kind of a thing. It's we're going to dig down and do what we need to do. If they need that then that was my question was for PD or a break for the teachers fine but >> and with school improvement plans that Kevin and I have been following pretty closely some of the time will be given it won't be like one full day of districts there will be
079some times where buildings can work with their teachers on something they specifically need in their building um lawn sales working on standards alignment Montgomery is working on engagement strategies is working on classroom environment and the high school is working on reading strategies to improve their reading test scores. And so currently they're doing it in like 20 minute staff meetings. So when we created the professional development plan for this year instead of putting everyone in the high school together, we said this day they're going to spend it at their building and they're spending two hours working on whatever their SIP was. But that got approved by Kevin and I. So there might be some time where it is building focus, but that would have been approved by us. I just wanted to make that clear. >>
080I'll second all the stuff Marshall said. >> Can you repeat it? >> Yeah, but Hillary already second it, so we're just voting. [laughter] >> I just want to clarify. We're approving adding two professional development days to the 2526 calendar, >> which decreases the number of student days by two. They'll be very disappointed. Uh the proposed dates are then um January 5th and February 27th. >> Correct. >> So I have a motion introduced by Marsha, seconded by Hillary to approve adding two professional development days to the 2526 school calendar, decreasing the number of student days for the 2526 school year by two. The proposed date is January 5th and February 27th. All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? The motion is passed 6. >> Can I just add one quick thing for calendar-wise? This
081year the state did pro um in legislation we can have like 6.5 hour less student contact hours due to the readact professional development. So just something to think about. Um and that gets documented via a plan I submit to the state. Okay. >> Thank you. So >> we're done read testing. What do you mean? >> Or training? I mean, until we're done with the training, or is this just >> It's just It was for last year and we didn't utilize it last year. But we do have the opportunity this year. I do not believe they're going to add it for next year for secondary. >> No, they're not. >> Okay. Moving on. Um, letter of agreement for the EA District nurse. I will seek a motion to approve the letter of agreement with the EA
082District nurse. I'll make the motion. >> I'll second and then I'll share what it is real quick before you read the thing. Right. So, um, and I already talked with John and Amanda. Uh, it was I don't want to say it was missed going into because our nurse is on the teachers contract and sometimes it gets forgotten. Um, but in the contract, the counselors have uh the language in there where they can have an additional six days because there's a lot of work to do before school and after school to get started. Um so they do they got some extra time embedded and then at the end of that it says per uh any additional days after that per superintendent. I will tell you that the unique um capacity that our nurse fulfills for this
083district because she carries the license um is well under DAE if you want to look at it like that. Um and then [clears throat] the fact is is that when any nurse is out that the the fill-in that has to be done across the district to keep that person here um we don't ever want to lose that person. So the best place and the best thing to do with it was is to add it to the counseling section. Uh next so next time negotiations it'll just be in there counselors and um district nurse. Um but there should be something in there where we're accommodating some few extra days before school after school and then the accommodation that happens for when there's a lot of filling in to to make up the paperwork. Um she's asked
084for this for a few years now and I think it's time it came comes to fruition. Like I said, I met with John in the union and Amanda uh to to try to solidify this on here. So, just that's where that's coming from. >> And so, that'll cover the remainder of the contract until negotiations in. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah. >> Because that letter of agreement then will come off once they negotiation contract. >> Yep. Correct. Thank you. All right. I have a motion um by Hillary Birdsville, second by Chris Flesach to approve the letter of agreement with the EA district nurse. All those in favor? >> I. Those opposed? Motion is passed 6. >> Any I know it's after the fact, but I should have said too. It's it could be a $500 $800 addition.
085>> It's well worth it. >> Yeah. So, just just wanted to share that as well as a finance thing. I should have shared that prior. >> Okay. Uh future ready CTE impact grant of $20,000. I will seek a motion to approve the future ready CTE impact grant from South Center Service Cooperative in the amount of $20,000 to support the purchase of equipment for the CTE fabrication and maker spaces. >> I'll second >> I'll say that soon as you're done. I'll I'll thank that person. >> Sorry, I was going to say I want to know who or did you already do that? >> I got Sorry, I got to be louder. >> Speak up in the back. >> Yeah, really. I just whispered in it. >> Who watched it? >> Who wrote it? >> Trevor's. >>
086Oh, sorry. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, you got >> anyway. Do that then. Okay, we're all messed up. So, [laughter] um, let's just thank uh let's just thank Jeff Balman uh for writing that grant um and the amount of work that goes into that.
