001It's 5:30. We will call the meeting to order and start with the pledge. I pledge to the flag of the United States of America to the stands nation indivisible and justice for all. We have one change to the agenda. Well, first I want to welcome everyone here. Um, and we'll just start by going around the room and introducing ourselves. >> John Scott and >> Hessend. Um, we do have one addition to the agenda that we will put under new business 1A, uh, the robotics world championship discussion. add that to your agenda, >> I believe. So, uh, approval of paying claims. So, we'll move that down a ways as well. You okay with that? We move that under letter F. So, letter D, we'll move below. We'll just come, we'll circle back and hit letter D
002after we get done with our administate administrative reports correspondence. >> Okay. Well, with those changes, can I make a motion to adopt the modified agenda? >> I'll make a motion to adopt the modified agenda. >> All in favor say I. >> Same sign. >> Motion carries. Um, did everybody get a chance to look at last meeting minutes? All good. Any changes? motion to the building. All in favor say I. >> Same sign. Motion carries six. We will um move on to any committee for writing that numbers three and four are not with us tonight. So, we'll go right to number eight. >> Amy. >> Hi, Amy. Hello. Okay, lots happening this time of year. Um, enrollment is staying steady. We're up two kids from last month, but that brings us right back to where we
003were at the beginning in August. So, it's typically what happens. Um, lots of planning for next year happening right now. Kindergarten registration is underway. Families received the letters. They're currently signing up through the Google form and we have a kindergarten meet and greet scheduled for April 1st. That's where parents actually come in with their children, meet the teachers, see our spaces, um, that kind of thing. That's happening. Preschool registration um, open last Friday. So, that's going well. Families are registering for that as well. Um, as you know, there's an additional first grade position. So, that hiring process is underway as well. Um, I posted that last Friday and received multiple apps. I think at least 15 by tonight. So, typically an elementary position is not as hard to fill as some of the other ones.
004So, um, I was expecting that. Um, committee has scheduled a date on April 9th, a full day retreat. We have some new members on that team and we're going to be revising some things. Um just looking at our current model and seeing what changes we need to make, what's working, what isn't working, that kind of thing. So, we've set aside that day to do some planning so that we're ready to implement those things next year or make those changes for next year. We're still going to have PLC's. We're still going to have Q comp. All of that. Nothing like that is changing. It's just within the plan. there's some things that are working and some things that maybe haven't worked. And that plan has been in place well with Sheila and I our first year
005here I think was so about 12 years and so you just need to look at things sometimes and and revise as needed. Um there's an MTSS competitive grant that just opened and so the admin team were going to work on submitting that that is competitive so there's no you know we don't know if we'll get the funding for that or not. we were able to get that funding, it would be amazing. We could use that to hire an MTSS coordinator that could really help that process and move that forward in our district. Um, but again, you know, there's a it's a competitive process, so it depends on how many people apply, what their scoring system looks like, but we will definitely give it a shot. And in the meantime, we're going to continue working with
006Jason from Resource. He just actually emailed me today with some dates um for April so we can set up our next meeting to do the teaming inventory and the initiative inventory. So we're continuing to move forward with that as well. And March 26 is our next inservice day. That's really going to be focusing on planning and preparation for next year. um making sure we're ready for MCA testing and also some relicure options for teachers who need certain types of um PD in order to renew their license as well. Any questions about that? I know that's a lot this time of year is we got a lot going on. >> The timing of the >> is that is it taking till August or fall to know or >> I don't know. It's due April 3rd and
007it just opened. So that time is a short turnaround. And I think it's because obviously if most of many districts would use that to hire a coordinator. You need time to hire, you know, waiting until August is really late to do that. So I think that's why the turnaround time was quick because then maybe they will get that information out. And there are a few districts there are a number of districts that already have that funding and that's they're they would be applying to renew it but they're adding additional districts this time. So yeah um okay playground update. So I've been working with Megan Green to I was she came to me and we were talking and and it just worked really well. I wanted somehow to have some student voice in this project. You
008know, what what do the kids think about the playground? What are their ideas? And so we decided to just start with the fourth grade group um being that they are the oldest um in the building. And so she had been working with them um and they did some surveying of all students to find out our current playground equipment. What do they like the best? What what is it that they really like? And so I went into two classes today during media for fourth grade and they showed me the results. And then in the meantime, um, both of our the two quotes I got in the design options, I shared one of those design options with the class and just said, "Here's what we're looking at. If we raise this much money, we could have this.
009If we raise this much, and these are starting designs, we can, you know, we can change things in them." And so, it was it was a really good conversation hearing like what they like or I don't really know if we need that, but maybe we can take that out of the sun shade over here. They definitely have thoughts about it, which is is great. So the next step is Megan's going to be printing those um options that we got from landscape structures. Fourth grade will give me some feedback on that. I also um will be meeting with PTA we were supposed to meet but it was the day the girls went to state basketball. So we so the president postponed that a little bit um because they are partnering with us with the fundraising efforts
010and all of that as well. surprised by the kids students responses or >> some of it not necessarily I mean I think the things that we are revamping are the things that they like the most so I think that was it was good and we were trying to figure out how can we have I don't want them to do this work and not feel like they are telling me about it or that they have any input and also what is appropriate for elementary if I said what do you want a playground to look like that would be hard for them to come up with that but now that they have some structure to the design. It can also be like where's a menu of things that we could interchange. Um, and also thinking about if
011we raise this much, we can have this. If we raise this much, this and maybe being able to add to it in future years as well. So, yeah, they did a great job. They had great questions about it. They had a lot of questions about we want to make sure that all kids have something to play on and, you know, just really wanted to be inclusive of everyone, which it was that was good. So, yeah, that's been that's been fun to do. Um, appreciate Megan's work with that as well. So, I'll keep you posted on that. Um, and then the last thing I just said, we had breakfast with a buddy on March 6. Over 500 people participated. That is always a very successful event for us. Really appreciate the custodial staff forward team, student
012leadership, title, teachers, lots of people involved in making that happen. Sheila for giving up her the cafeteria space that morning. Um, yeah, it went really well. So, it's nice to plan something that people kind of really appreciate being there. So, that's what we have going on. Lots of kind of a foot in this year and a foot in next year right now. It's how we operate. >> You get an idea of numbers for this year for kindergarten. I I don't yet. I will. Mary is very good about getting it very I don't know what it is yet because first we send the letter um people start registering then she follows up because some are not registering and so then we're you know reminding people and she's usually you know by the end of March probably
013in the next couple weeks we'll have a pretty solid number. Um there are some families that are not sure if they're sending their child to kindergarten yet or having them you know they're going to be in preschool another year. Some people are deciding between a holy family school and the public school and that's okay. And we always have a few that, you know, move in over the summer, things like that. But for the most part, um, yeah, she does a really good job of reaching out to families. Um, and I invite people to the meet and greet. You don't have to commit to coming to come to that. Just come and check it out. And I certainly would answer questions. I just sometimes I have individual meetings with parents who call and just want to
014know specific things about our program too. So yeah, any other questions for Amy? All right. >> Thank you. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> All right. Enrollment is um pretty steady. We're down a few students this month, but we've we've remained pretty steady all year. Uh she talked about u comp that is an exciting uh change or potential change that we're going to be looking at. So, we pulled together a team and we'll be working on that in April. Uh teacher inservice coming up next Thursday. We will be focusing on keeping many things we do every in service day which is looking at data for our grade level meetings. We'll be finalizing our registration documents. It'll be teachers one last look at it before students start to register. Uh we'll be working on our streetway which
015is our PBIS and reviewing some policies and procedures for next year some more standards work. And then we did build in that um suicide prevention training. Our teachers have asked for that. they've asked for for us to kind of look at a rotation of trying to get in some of those CU requirements. So, I looked at that one and realized we hadn't offered that before. So, thought that's probably one that um would be helpful to most teachers whether or not they need to renew this year or within the next few years. So, that will be good. It'll be a full day as they typically are. As far as registration and scheduling, this is always kind of a dynamic process where I'm still waiting for final word on budget and positions and can I add a
016few sections here or there or do I need to can I move some things around? We have had one draft fully built. I needed to make some changes to it. So, it's just this constant building it, reviewing it, getting a few eyes on it, revising it, but students will have it in their hands. We'll have a meeting with them on the 31st um and the 1st, depending on their grade level, and then they get about a week to fill that out and we start plugging it into the system. I was at um my CTE meeting this morning and so I just wanted to share some things with you about that. I felt like it was timely. So that is the group I work with for our career and teched Perkins funding. So that's a big
017grant that we get every two years through this consortium. There are six schools that are part of this and right now they're reapplying for the grant. They're doing this big needs assessment. So, we were looking kind of through what survey data we had gotten and um I just thought it was interesting like right now the the highest level of needs that they're projecting for our area is healthcare, construction, manufacturing, and transportation. And I was pleased to notice that of the six schools, we are the only one that has a medical careers program. And I really do give Mike Ellens a ton of credit because he was willing to think outside the box, take on some new courses. So that is our healthcare careers in the community and now our EMR class. Those are the two
018that create our medical careers and just really give kids a nice option of seeing what is out there in the healthc care field. So since that is an area where growth is needed, I'm really glad we've expanded that. I feel really good about our construction and manufacturing programs. I mean, I wish we had more bodies and more space, all of that. But we have dynamic programming there, too. Um, I know there's a lot of interest at the board level uh for a business program. That is one of the CTE areas we don't have uh and most other schools do. So, I asked a lot of questions today about what are you doing with your business programs? How are they going? And it's very, it really depends. Um, one school that has a business teacher has
019actually less business classes than we do with our CEO. I think we have a much better program. With our CEO, they really just have a work-based learning person, which we have multiple of those, and a careers class, which we offer. So, that was interesting. But they do have a business teacher. Um and some say it well they all agreed their program is successful when they have the right person in there. They've had many along the way where it was a very static program and you know didn't draw a lot of interest but if they get the right person in there then then you see a lot of excitement around it. And that's true about really all of these areas but it was an interesting conversation. Uh we all agreed it came through the survey data
020and we were all talking about it. We talk about it all the time. The hardest part for us to continue to expand these kinds of programs is the staffing number one. It's just finding these people. They are not they are not being created out of school anymore. They are just they're not there um in any of these areas. So it's very tricky. Um and then of course equipment costs. Donnie can see that, you know, there's just staying up to date with the industry level. It's just impossible at with a school budget and space, just having enough places to do all of this and hold these classes. So, we all experience those same challenges, but I really think we have one of the broadest um CTE programs in the area right now, and I'm very proud
021of our teachers for taking that on. Any questions about that? >> Oh, good to hear though. Just what other schools are doing and how we compare and >> No, I really appreciate I appreciate that consortium. >> Yeah. >> Uh and then just a couple things on the horizon. We have streeter hour this week. We do that once a quarter uh to just kind of get some kids caught up. There's a lot of absences with things, you know, a lot of activities. Kids are out. It's just a good time for everyone to reconnect and kind of catch up a little bit. It's just really only it's not a full hour. It's only 25 minutes, but it's still useful and that will happen this week. And then the ACT is coming up at the beginning of April.
022We have 58 students signed up. We had 38 last year, but then I realized that was a class of 85 and this is a class of 112. So, it's still kind of a similar ratio, but um yeah, a lot of students planning to take the ACT. Any questions for Sheila? >> All right. Okay. Sounds good. Thank you. >> Evening. Start with the food service update. We have quite a bit of activity going on food service right now. Um so later on in the agenda, I think it's in the consent agenda uh to approve the RFP for going out for bid for food service for the next uh year's contract. Um it will be basically um a contract that will be for one year but then it's renewable for up to four more years. Um but
023each year is a decision on its own but it starts with the year. Um so what this approval by the board does is uh basically just allows us to go out for bid. Um it's not approval of a bid. It's not approval of anything we've done to date. Right now we've just gathered the information to put it in the RFP and that will go to MDE tomorrow. Then um MDE has to approve it before we can send it out to the vendors for bid or put it in the papers. So, uh, after MBE approves it, we'll be putting the advertisement in paper as required and we are required to send out letters to, um, vendors that are licensed in the state. So, obviously, we'll send it out to our current vendor. Um, we'll reach out
024to a few other schools to see who they're using. Um, look on Google. Um, obviously, we won't catch all of them, but as many as we can receive invitations to bid. So then on April 21st would be the on-site proposal that the vendors that are interested in uh would come on site. Uh they can basically uh take a tour of our site um ask questions and then from there the process continues until we we pick a vendor um later on the year. So, uh, right now there is a, um, a timeline in the, I believe it's the March 2nd committee meeting if you want to see the full timeline on on where we're at in that process. Uh, the other thing we're working on in food service, um, we are doing the triangal assessment. Um,
025that's still being completed by Sharon. It's basically a process that addresses the required wellness policy that the school has to have. Um, and it's done every three years. Therefore, what's called trienual and that is um, basically there's a set amount of items you have to see if you're making progress every year. Um the so there'll be interviews with certain staff members and then you have you know what did you do last year what did what are you doing now where are you going from here um and that's required every every three years as I said it used to be you would do the trianual assessment after you received an audit which is every five years so now the audits are changed to every three years so you kind of now it's following a a correct
026pattern so when you get audited then you do the assessment And then the last thing in food service, I had mentioned this at one of the other meetings about fund balance spend down. Uh we did get some quotes in and some requests. So the food service company is requesting $20,000 in equipment upgrades. Um various different items. Um nothing extremely large this time. Um and then we also have elementary cafeteria furniture at about 75,000 that came in. Um and again we have to spend down about 298,000 and so the rest of those funds will be um put aside for inflation on contract increases. >> 675k for furniture. >> Yes. >> 75k for elementary furniture. >> Yes. >> Elementary. >> Um the other thing we have going on right now is uh there is a new pre
027uh PC card program which is our purchase or credit cards. PAMA does that and sponsors that and they went out for bid and they got some better rebates earlier in the process of switching our credit cards over to US Bank from um the rebate for our area um up to $500,000 in qualifying purchases for the year uh will go up to 65 from point4% of a rebate. Uh last year we got $1,700 back. That not every purchase we put on there qualifies for the rebates and they they have a formula. They take care of all of that and then they issue a check. If we spend out over 500k, uh the new rates will now be 0.85. So little bit of a jump. Uh we used to put more on utilities on our credit card
028bills. Um, right now they're starting to charge like 3% or higher to use credit cards. So, it's not as advantageous now to use those to get the rebates. Um, so I think it's going to be harder for us to get to that next level. Um, so I think we're going to stay at the point six. Um, in the agenda on the consent agenda, there's uh adding a new depository um that is called Ellers's Investment Services. So what we're doing there is we're moving our 2021A bond proceeds to that account. What that will do is the account is a taxable investment account which means that any interest that is earned in that account between now and October will reduce our arbitrage amount due to the IRS. So right now we're at the upper 90,000s that we
029would owe. So hopefully we can get that lowered and of course that's all set by market rate so we don't really know what that will be but any type of savings better and by putting it in this account at least we know it will go up. So that's a new thing that they are offering. Um so we already moved this also first and we just need that moved that that is a depository to put our funds in. Couple of legislative things, things going on at MDE. Um, of course, the legislator is ramping up. The one big thing that is a big talk among the legislators and business managers especially is the compensatory funding. The legislature is looking at a hold of harmless so that our funds aren't reduced by the about 300,000 we're thinking it
030will be for next year. as we don't have a timeline on if that will get passed, but now that the budget forecast is surplus instead of a deficit, that's more likely to pass than it was before. And of course, nothing nothing has been passed yet. It's they're all being all the bills are being introduced and not all of them have been introduced yet. So, we'll be keeping an eye on that. Um there's updates I receive every week um by emails from our MASPO um person and then we also have um some other updates that we get every two weeks. So we'll be following those closely. One thing MDE is kind of dragging their feet on is they did not have the revenue projection model for next year which makes it really hard to budget for
031next year. normally, >> huh? >> When do you normally have it back? >> Um, they have a more manual one that's out that was out a couple weeks ago, but the revenue projection one is a lot more automated and has all the numbers pre-filled, so it allows it's less likely to have an input error. Um, so basically on that one, you just enter in your enrollment projections and it spits everything out for you. It tells you this is what your aid is, this is what your levy is. These are even the account codes it goes to. So, it's a really really good model to use for budgeting. Um, it came out about I'd say about five years ago. It wasn't always available. You had to use the warm uh manual what if report, which is
032a lot more inputs. They said their whole thing is going to be out in the next two weeks. So, waiting anxiously for that one to get the revenue budget going for um next school year. That's all. They have any questions for that. All right. Thank you. We have to >> Oh, oh, I've got their >> You got the notes. >> Okay. From Maisie and Katie, girls basketball advanced to the state tournament last weekend. All other winter sports are done. Robotics for the Western regional champions advance advancing to the World's Championship in Texas this April. Spring sports started two weeks ago for senior high. Golf starts today. I believe started today. That's that's the that's the beaches conference meet today. FFA week was a success. Egg Olympics and staff appreciation breakfast quarter ends next week. Theater
033art show next week. >> Yep. >> What's going on, Mr. Pel? >> Hey. Um several things. First of all, I want to uh talk about a program called I love you guys training. Uh we've looked at it as a group of superintendents around our area that are Alice. You know, we are we are in Alice mode right now. That is the program we've adopted for situations, you know, for uh very bad situations. Um the I love you guys training is going to focus on the uh reunification strategies. So again, in situations like that, obviously we're going to have patrols, I patrolman, you know, we'll probably have people here from Melos, Albany, you know, again, heaven forbid anything like that happens. Sterns County deputies, Sterns County Sheriff. So this we're going to go to on June
0341st. Everyone will speak the same language. the process will be the same. Obviously, different schools will have different re reunification sites, but what it'll will do, it'll it'll unify the process. So, we will have a I've talked to principles about it. We will have um 8 to 10 of our staff, I'm guessing, at a minimum they are senator PD. I've talked to Joe about it. Uh I just talked to Adam Mort's assistant so fire department chief tonight. So, he is interested. Um, and again, we've got there's half a dozen districts signed up for it already for the cost. We don't know where it's going to be yet. It'll either be held in our auditorium or in a home. So, I just want to give you a heads up on that. Uh, you know, the Alice
035piece of it and what we've done with our kids, I think, and our staff has been very effective. We've had trainings with our kids. I feel like people have a pretty good grasp of that. It's now we're in our second year of it. The reunification piece though is a little current. So, we have locations again identified in our emergency plan. Uh that'll be part of the discussion at this at this conference of what that totally looks like. So, um I'm excited for it. It'll give us a plan, give districts a plan, you know, to help that process go as best as it can in a situation like that. So, more to come on that. That training is June 1st. I sent out today our negotiation list for 2026. Um following groups are up for contract
036renewals. Kid connection director and assistant the directors of transportation technology buildings and grounds the custodians business manager bus drivers technology support specialist and our MSEA pair professionals which are union um we have received their letter of intent negotiating. I think the last time we had this conversation when we were starting these groups again our I think I've received this feedback from you as a board. We want to get these done. Let's get proposals. So my plan this week is to again I have one not a proposal but I have the intent to negotiate. All right. Plan this week is to get the information out uh to each one of these entities, say, "Hey, we're ready. Get us a proposal." Um, and typically that's how this goes. They come with proposal. We look at it. We
037have our list of things that we want as part of their contracts and then the negotiation process starts. So, just FYI, it's March, mid-March, that's going to be here. We want to get this process moving so it doesn't drag out all summer and drag out in the next, you know, Josh and you talked about this a great length, too. It's just it's just nice to get get moving on and have it done. So, anyway, um that's out there. Bus prices. I have a list in front of you. Sat with Chad. I know we talked about this at the last committee meeting. So, we need some school buses. We're looking at two this year. So here he went and uh this is a contracted pricing through the state. So it is what it is. Here's what
038we have. Um a 70 77 passenger route bus and keep in mind this is propane. Uh the bus with taxes runs about $159,000. There are some things we'd like to have on it. The angel tracks camic system for safety. Uh there those things are listed there. Um you know that total is around 4,700. So, if you're looking at a bus, it's around 60 164,000. We're looking at 165. We'd like two of them. Um, trade in values there between 5 and 8,000. There are districts that are looking for older buses. Now, remember the two buses that we're looking at trading are 2012s and it's and you know, they're up there in miles uh as well. So, we actually, you know, there's been some contact with the smaller school district to the east of us that'll be
039interested in our buses and Chad will reach out to them and maybe we can get more. So, that was what the uh dealer gave us for trade in values optional. He threw it in here as a mini bus um looking at a 218. It's got 58,391 miles. It's price is 3500. we would trade in our two 2015 29 passenger which is 148,000 mi. They gave us a price of 12,000. A new minivan is 96,000. So we'd be reducing our mileage by about 100,000. Um we had the conversation that you know if if the board approves these two new buses we got some leverage on that mini bus in regards to price. I think so maybe maybe can get it down. So next steps is we will hold a special meeting after our committee meeting in
040April which which is April 6th. That meeting will be strictly to approve bus purchases. So if you have any questions in the future on this I will have chat at that meeting. Um but again this is a state bid so it's pretty cut and dry. uh of where those prices are. >> Does this include any rebates that could >> he talked about that? He's checking into that yet because there is a pine rebate. I think he said 3500. So that Yeah, he's he's trying to finalize that. These are just hard costs, but there are rebates available. Yes. >> So the ask is going to be the sound cleared. Two new buses. >> Two new buses and a mini bus. >> Two new buses with the potential if that needle moves for a mini bus. Yes.
041This is to replace two existing buses. >> Two 2012s on our mini bus that has 148,000 miles. You wanted to replace every two years. Well, that's what we're going to have to figure out. We set down today. You would like to replace every year a cycle. I don't know if that's feasible. I mean, you're looking at $300,000, right? Or more. >> Two. >> Well, potentially two every year because then we keep our fleet and uh yeah, how many total buses? and two main buses four vans I believe. >> So he's already done the maintenance cost offset with what we would add a trade and wherever that numbers must be pretty close >> I think so. Yeah. Y so I mean I I remember we did not purchase buses last year. It's been two years right
042but we have not purchased buses for two years. So probably do um you know Chad's been very good about just maneuvering vehicles where he needs to get the most use out of them carb up so speak in regards to where those where the place what route they're on and things like that. So and the mini bus is just mostly for activity what what's the bus need? Yeah, activities we use it for. I don't know preschool preschool routes or mini bus that required some additional students and that's where >> existing mini bus being at 150,000 >> the I think we >> we said between one and two we have to replace it based on the rules uh rules in what those parameters were. to the value for this mini bus at 35 grand versus the $96,000
043was proposed as a good value with $12,000 trade in. So you can essentially get it for 23,000 >> for a bus with 58,000 miles on us have 100,000 miles filed for this known route that were students that are intended to be in the school for the next few years. We'd have I think it was like 12,000 miles a year. I could look at my notes, but it was something along those lines where it seemed reasonable when they were >> review. >> Yeah, correct. Yeah, >> especially if there's a little bit of leverage that could come with scale. So, April 6, we'll uh give you questions, send me an email or whatever, if you have any gas chat, more than happy to visit with you. Um, but this will be part of a special meeting on
044April 6 after the committee meeting to approve bus purchases. We need your blessing on that because of the cost. Okay, questions. Uh, administrative evaluations principles. I have a template. I talked to Sheila and Matt and Amy about those. Um, I'm tweaking them a little bit. I'll do some work on those and we will do I will have principal evaluations at the end of March early April. Um same you know every time we have this conversation I think John the template for the superintendent one right actually correction. >> Okay so we should if you could get that out that'd be great and then um you know we could discuss it again April 6 meeting and then the regular board meeting in April that'll be a sit down. you'll have everything tabulated by that time and u
045we can have discussion about that that's okay with the rest of okay last thing policy committee update we had a interesting meeting this week and Scott were both there MSBA has come out with an AI policy for schools a draft that'll be a new policy uh we reviewed it briefly um there is an AI summit in June at Apollo High School. I believe it's the 15th and the 16th. I think Pat, I and Becky are going to attend that. So, we'll give a lot more information on the contents of that policy is the revisions. We'll have to tailor make it towards what we do here in Sock Center, which is what we do with all the policies basically uh with in mind that they're legally vetted out through MSBA. We, you know, usually there's not
046a lot of change, but um that'll be interesting to see uh how that goes. Um, another policy we're working on is 605.5 library materials and forms. Megan Green, our elementary librarian, is reviewing it. Again, working on things that pertain to publications and library practices in our district. >> Questions? actually had a couple of questions relating to the student report. If you could I'm just kidding. >> Sure. >> Congratulations to I did watch >> that machine they have has a higher field goal percentage than Larry Bird did last thing. He didn't miss very often. It's great. >> All right, we'll move on to our general consent items. Um >> just by big black arrow. Yes, paper claims. Sorry. >> So, just had a chance to review things over a little bit again. Really nothing exciting since
047construction was stopped. Uh there were two of them. One in board bills, one in hand pace for boiler repairs and HVAC. Check number 94641 for $937.50 and 94514 and handpays. Uh that was for HVAC and boiler repairs 10,35652. Uh check number 94572 is for languir system the the 25 ton press breaks for 12,32362. I think some of that Beth was donated. Is that correct? Yeah. Uh and then another one check number 94580 to Sterns Electric for a power pole repair hit by the bus was $3,574.39. Uh handpaid wires were $742,815.30. 30 and payables 1119 550 and61 board bills were 311,41749 for a total of1 million17378340. >> Okay, any questions for Joe? Any questions regarding any? >> Can I get a motion to approve the payment of claims? a second. >> I'll second. >> All in
048favor say I. >> I. Same side. >> All right. Now we will move on to our general consent items. We have a quite a few new hires and looks like a lot of resignations just due to cleaning up. >> Correct. Yes. or you know we've got people that are somewhat like look at community ed workers and things like that there's just a lot of clean up time this time of year that any shaper does to these people are no longer you know they resign they're no longer on the payroll so we can get them out but we clean up their systems a little bit so >> okay >> um approve the hiring of following employees Savannah Low substitute teacher Morath Gammer subteer Hansen subteer Paum, elementary parah, Catherine Barry, elementary parah, Sarah Johnson sub Rachel
049Naras sub and approve the resignation of you can read your list. >> Yeah, all those people. >> I'm not going to read all. So anyway, thank all those people for their service to our district in all different ways. We can take all >> you can take Yeah, we can take the whole works just one. >> No, we need to step before right is just information >> and action. We got to pull it. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Uh, number three is approve adding Ellers's Investment Services to the official school depository list. Back to what Bets was telling us, they have a nice additional savings option. So, thank you John. Um, and then number four in our portal is the spray coaches list of those. So, we'll want to include that motion to approve the general consent
050that Joe >> sorry. >> All in favor say I. All the same sign motion carries six. >> All right. On to unfinished business. We have the final reading of the following nine policies. Have >> at it, Mr. Policy number 207, public hearings. Policy number 209, code of ethics. Policy 303, superintendent selection. Policy 512, school sponsored student publications and activities. Uh policy 517, student recruiting. Policy 607, organization of grade levels. Policy 609, religion and religious and cultural observances. Policy 713, student activity accounting, and policy 807, health and safety. >> All right. Can I get a motion to approve the final reading of those nine policies? That second. All in favor say I. Same sign. Motion car 60. On to new business. Number one, consider and take action on approving the resolution for donations. Um, once again,
051we always have I'm always amazed at the number of donations we have on our lists here. Um, $620 to robotics from Egg Country, $103 to boys basketball from Quick Trip Melrose, $500 to baseball toward the baseball field from Magnify, $700 to boys basketball from the Bear Trap, $500 to boys basketball from Daniel B. Borgman, $250 to robotics from Mid Minnesota Grinding and Mulch, and $500 forward team elementary from Chris and Chrissy Oakland family. Can I get a motion to roll? >> Can I get a motion to second? Gotch. Joe, >> hi Josh. >> Hi John. >> Hi Scott. >> Hi. >> Um and then our addition to the agenda it will be the robotics. Mr. Riley and whoever else. >> Hello. Um so I'm the robotics one of the robotics coaches. Glenn is the other
052one here. Um, so we are looking for approval to go to the World Championships in Houston again this year. We qualify this weekend by winning the Great Northern Regional in Grand Forks. Uh, we're going to try to fly to save time because last time we drove and it takes two solid days to get there, two more to get home. Um, and this way we get the kids less time missing school back sooner, that sort of thing. Um, I guess what we're looking for is approval that we can go. Uh, we'll take care of the cost for the most part. Last year, the school paid for transportation there and back. I don't know what that total value was, but if we could potentially use that to help offset some of the cost of this trip down
053there again, that would be great. Um, I guess the only thing we would be looking for is probably transportation to the airport and back. Uh, but after that, we would find a way to get it done ourselves. So, through fundraising and donations and stuff like that. So just as a reference typically when we have groups going on long trips out of state not can you buy those Southakota Wisconsin Iowa right they come in front of you that with fires this organization robotics did this last year as well it um sounds like exciting stuff I don't have any problem whatsoever with doing this it's a wonderful opportunity for those kids >> uh there was like 51. >> So we were ranked number one from wire to wire >> beginning. >> A lot from Minnesota and North
054Dakota. There's a handful some from >> Kansas. >> Yep. One South Dakota team. >> Wasn't a lot of the international team this one though. Uh yeah, we right now as of well Saturday night when I looked we were the number one ranked robot in Minnesota and number 39 in the nation. and top 300 in the world. >> Higher than that, but that's only after two weeks. >> Yeah, that'll change. So, not that we're going to stay there. >> Well, it depends how high it goes. >> We're likely going down. So, but then we'll ride the high we have. So, >> yeah, >> we are intending to try to take the entire team as compared to last year. We limited just for the short term notice that we had what we had six kids maybe we
055took last year >> and this year be more like 15. >> Yeah about the 14 to 15 mark. >> It's a great box somebody takes that down. >> Yeah. So, there is a group uh there's a team in Minnesota that organizes this through Amazon, but they donated three semi-trailers, which is how we got our stuff down there last year. So, we just have to get it to Bumiji by a certain day or whatever drop site have um wrap it up with plastic, put it in there with our name on it, and then they drop it off right at the door. We just pick it up and then it reverses the process on the way home. So, it doesn't cost us anything for that, which is great because we have quite a bit of stuff. Couple
056thousand home tool box just be personnel, whoever you're taking with their luggage back. >> So, with 15 people, it could be a couple vans or it could be a bus type situation. So, we won't have to haul any trailers and stuff. the airport just people >> April 27th. Am I wrong? >> Last week in April. >> Yeah, we would leave the Wednesday the 28th. We would get back >> 29th through the 2nd. >> Okay. So, you'd be gone. >> We would leave like a Wednesday and get back on Saturday. Wednesday, April 29th through Saturday, May 2nd. We need I make a motion to approve worlds. >> That makes a motion. We have a second by John. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Same sign. >> Great work. All right. On to number two.
057Considering take action on approving the solicitation requests for proposals for food service management, which heard for that move. >> I'll second all in favor say I. I was saying 36. >> Uh consider and take action on approving the quote from Chappelle Central in the amount of $86,913 in our portal. >> We talked about that. I talked about that for you. Y technical term >> HA second. Any other discussion regarding that? >> All in favor say I. >> I say motion f. consider and take action on approving an assistant golf coach position. So, kind of had to do that with softball similar. >> We have numbers numbers support it. >> Okay. >> Yeah, there's there's a number. We've reached that number. We need another coach. >> Okay. >> The number's 15. We're over that. I want
058to see 19 >> as of right now. I mean, yeah, it could go up there. >> It could go up there. Yeah, the first day. >> All right, make a motion to approve motions second. All in favor say >> I. >> Nikki's here. Yes, achievement integration plan is in your folder. >> Okay, so the achievement integration plan is a three-year plan. We are on our last year right now. What it is is um basically there's two districts u Melrose and Long Prairie that are considered racially isolated. So they get a they get a large chunk of money from the achievement and integration state budget. In order for them to get that money though, they have to be paired with partner districts in the area to work on like the integration part across districts. So, we
059are what's considered a partnering district. So, what that means to us is we get some money for it. Um, it's roughly about $100,000 every year that we have in our budget for it. And we have to have three goals. One goal on achievement, one goal on integration, and then one teacher equity goal. So, um, every three years the plan has to get rewritten with new goals. we can have very similar goals, which two of our goals are very very similar to the year before. Um, and I'll go over those. And then usually the teacher equity one kind of shifts and changes depending upon what the district needs because another requirement of these three goals is that it works with our world's best workforce goals as well. So, um, I met with administration and we kind
060of tried to figure out goals that were very similar that could go across those areas. So um the first goal is an achievement goal. Um that one is reducing the achievement gap between free and reduced students and his the Hispanic Hispanic and Latino population. This is the same similar I should say very similar to our goal that we have these last three years where we are reducing that gap and it's just kind of continuing because we're we're doing a good job of that. Um the second goal is a teacher equity goal. The last three years we were working on social emotional um learning different speakers curriculum teacher equity in that area because that paired well with our Q comp goals and things like that. Q comp is also shifting where they have to have some
061um culturally responsive teaching. So we're going to be using some of the funds to not necessarily go for Q comp but to also work with those goals. So when we're talking culturally responsive teaching practices that is even academics um social the economic the different economic status of our students. So it incorporates all the students in our building and how we take all those differences and how we can respond to those in our classroom for every like day-to-day basis and lesson to lesson. Um and then the third strategy goes with the other schools. We have to have this the same as the other districts we're paired with which sorry I didn't mention that Melrose and Mont Curry because they're racially isolated but then BBE Oasis Albany and Payneesville are also with us. This goal is the
062same. What we do right now is we have a group of middle school students and a group of high school students that all seven of our districts get together and we um have cultural competency activities with those students um three to four times a year. So, our students have gotten together once in person in Melrose and then once virtually um last month I believe it was. We usually try to plan the winter one virtual so that weather and things like that we know we can probably pull it off. Um and then we'll get together again in April. We're thinking in Payesville for kind of a big celebration. So, it's kind of cool. The kids love it. Um like I said, there is money tied to this. where it goes to is it's some of my
063salary. It is um pretty much all Adidora salary as a we have in there a family liaison um and then also some of the interpreter pay as well and then there is some that has to go to curriculum and supplies and things like that. So we have some funds in there but for the most part it is helping cover some of those positions. And so every three years this just has to come to the board. Um it will it was actually due yesterday which is a weird day to have something due on a Sunday. So it is submitted. I will resubmit with board signature. Um I had stated that it was going to be at board tonight. So >> this Yeah, absolutely. >> So we're just approving the planet, right? Yep. >> Yep. And they
064could come back, they always do, and say, "Tweak this wording, change this a little bit." >> And that's good through 2029. >> Yeah. >> Yep. And then I would just come back each year to let you know how we're doing on the goals and things. Yeah. In the fall. >> Okay. >> Good. Okay. >> Awesome. Thanks, Nikki. >> Yeah. >> Are you going to stick for us to sign it? >> Yes. Oh, I have the sheet ready to go. Yep. >> Perfect. I mean, >> yeah. Discussion. >> I'd like to make a motion to >> John. Joe, >> I'm Joe. >> Can you guys change your name? >> Yeah. Uh any further discussion, questions? All in favor of the polling say I >> say motion carries. >> First reading of the following seven policies. >>
