aye aye aye can you say nay motion carries 7-0 uh we'll move to recognitions and awards and um we have recommendations we have some exciting recognitions tonight our first one actually goes to the 2021 2020 2021 lakeview thank you program yearbook staff for the national yearbook program of excellence award at the bronze level from jostens they have a huge crew so we have both of their editors representing them annabelle elliott and finwinta they earned this award for their extraordinary effort to create an accessible yearbook for each student and they worked hard to effectively manage their time to create a meaningful yearbook that people wanted to buy so we're so proud of those students for earning that achievement and then we also have a student who earned one of the five simone awards media reuben from

park hill south earned the otis taylor award this award goes to the best wide receiver or tight end in the kansas city metro area he caught 48 passes this season and turn the passes into 14 touchdowns i'm gonna be transparent with you i don't know what that means but it sounds really good he averaged 20.8 yards per reception and coaches across kansas city actually voted for him to earn this honor so that's pretty remarkable we are very proud of media and our final award is the good citizen award at the school level from the daughters of the american revolution ellie farmer earned it from park hill high school and sally green earned it from park hill south high school this recognizing recognizes seniors who demonstrate good citizenship qualities in their homes schools and communities and

staff members chose these two students for their dependability service leadership and patriotism with that being said i think we should give all of those students a big round of applause thank you uh we'll move to public comments during this part of our agenda we will receive public comments from patrons attending in person followed by comments received in writing by the noon deadline today ms hibbs have we received any cards we don't have any in-person cards but we did have one email today that elizabeth beck share that one good evening board members my name is elizabeth beck and i'm a parent with a high schooler and middle schooler reaching out with an idea to further our common goal to secure our schools a recent survey found that 57 percent of teens are concerned about a shooting

in their school the shooting at olathe east friday is a sobering reminder that this concern is valid and we must do more to help our children feel safe while early reports indicate the student used a ghost gun how it was obtained is unknown the secret service national threat assessment center study indicates that 76 percent of firearms used in acts of school violence are unsecured in the home of a parent or close relative while the situation in olathe ended with no deaths we all know of the many gut-wrenching incidents of school firearm violence that have not unsecured firearms increase the risk of more than just mass shootings every year nearly 350 children under the age of 18 unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else 700 children die by gun suicide each year most often using guns belonging

to a family member park hill has taken many positive steps forward to proactively secure our buildings and i'm truly thankful for that awareness and action there is more we can do however research shows that the secure firearm storage practices are associated with reductions in the risk of self-inflicted and unintentional firearm injuries among children and teens one study found that households that locked both firearms and ammunition were associated with a 78 percent lower risk of self-inflicted inflected firearm injuries and an 85 percent lower risk of unintentional injuries among children and teens compared to those that locked neither since 2019 school districts across across the country including recently in our neighboring north kansas city district have passed school board resolutions to require that information be sent home with students to educate parents about the important importance of

securing and securely storing any firearms they own this type of action is a simple yet effective step that parents can and should take to protect our students we are not asking parents whether they have guns nor are we asking them to get rid of their guns simply to safely secure them if they have them i'm asking you to take action that may prevent a tragedy by passing a resolution to help educate parents and guardians about safe storage if interested i would be happy to provide you with sample resolutions and further information i would also ask that you you partner with our local moms demand action group to help inform parents in the community about the be smart approach to secure storage through your website social media platforms and discussions with parent groups the tenants of

our be smart program are secure all guns in your home and vehicles model responsible behavior around your guns ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes recognize recognize the role of guns and suicide and tell your peers to be smart thank you for your time and i look forward to working with you toward the goal of preventing gun violence in our schools and community that was elizabeth beck we'll move to the consent agenda this evening's consent agenda includes items 5.1 through 5.9 dr coward are there items that need to be highlighted the only one i wanted to highlight was that we did dr andrew hargis is going to be the principal at chen elementary school he's been serving his interim and we made that announcement last week he'd already approved his administrative uh

contract but we did want to publicly announce that for dr hargis and want to congratulate him we know he'll do a great job thank you or do you have any questions for dr cowherd if not i'll need a motion and second to approve the consent agenda items 5.1 through 5.19 as presented somehow second i have a motion for mrs woodley and a second by ms reed to approve the consent agenda has presented any further discussion all those in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay motion carries 7-0 our first action item this evening is approval of the 2022 summer school information dates and locations this is the same presentation that dr courtney provided before so be happy to provide any answers or questions answers to any questions you might have let me see if

i can get that out right so no changes see no questions i would entertain a motion in a second to approve the summer school information dates and locations as presented we have a motion for mr klein in a second by mrs neuberger to approve summer school information dates and presented all those in favor say aye aye aye any opposed say nay motion carries 7-0 our information item this evening uh the comprehensive school improvement plan update dr dahl hello all right good evening everybody i am here tonight to present you with an update on the measures for our comprehensive school improvement plan before i get started i will i just want to say a great big thank you to our staff and our administrators for the incredible amount of focus and work that they've done over

the past year you'll notice as we go through the csip and you look at the work that we've done that we have continued to maintain focus amidst a pandemic and and that has taken um a great amount of work on behalf of our staff and i'm just so grateful for them and grateful for the supervision our principals have done and um and i think you're going to see some things tonight that that show how that's going so you as you remember our csip runs from 2018 to 2023 and we have two goals um overarching goals goal one is for each student to graduate college career and life ready the second goal is to ensure success for all students regardless of background and tonight i'm going to share with you the data that you've seen over

the course of the last four years related to those measures within goals one and two just remember a little bit of background this c-sip was developed in the 2017-2018 school year and that team consisted of community members teachers classified staff building and district administrators we had students parents and board members on that team and when we develop a csip we we always have two overarching goals in mind one is we want to make sure that we have a long-range plan just um for sure to meet the regulatory requirements for mc5 and the second and i think probably even more important than just the compliance of having a plan is using the plan and we want to have long-term and short-term goals that meet the future needs of our students that ensure that our organization is

sustainable and really positions us to continue to be visionary leaders in education so for goal one um which uh remember is each student will graduate college career and life ready um the first measure is that eighty percent of park hill students will meet readiness the readiness benchmark on the ccr index as measured by that and you can see that i have kept on there are four years within the csip remember this is based on quarter two data so this is halfway through the year on where we are and uh as though it's we took a dip a little bit last year and we talked a little bit about the circumstances related to that we're starting to rebound and i think that's great news because we're not even this is with just half halfway through the

year um and so we feel really good about where we stand and are are hoping that the continued great work that's happening in the classrooms will allow for us to finish strong through this year our second measure is our social emotional learning index and you can see that has remained stable we are actually showing the same um the same percentage that we did last spring halfway through the year and our goal you might remember in that measure is that we will get to 67 on that social emotional learning index we continue to hover around 65 percent um but i think uh given the circumstances of the years that we've had over the last couple of years the fact that we've remained steady is is good and we continue to hone in on how to perhaps

get that bump that we might need the third measure is our 21st century skills assessment and actually i had to back up and and just make sure that we all remember all three measures what i love about what we do in park hill is if we need to measure something and that measurement doesn't exist we create it and so the ccr index is our measure the sel index is our measure and the 21st century skills assessment is our measure and i love that because we don't let things barriers get in the way we figure out a way to do that so for the 21st century skills assessment you can see that we're at 82 percent that's really strong and compared to last year a little bit of a dip but we're only halfway through the

year and so our students still have the ability to show their progress on that 21st century skills assessment and so we're we're looking forward to seeing what that looks like after quarter four and we've had the full year to to assess those skills with our students within goal two we have two measures and remember goal two is ensuring success for all students regardless of background and the first measure is for our access and opportunity index to decrease the access and opportunity index and remember that's only a secondary measure that we have and we again remain flat on that we're still sitting at 17 percent and and are hoping that as we continue to do our work that we can perhaps see some movement on that particular measure for measure two we want to decrease the

ccr index gap between our student demographic groups and we want to get to 15 you can see that we have hovered around 8 17 and 18 percent um we're a little bit up uh this after a quarter two um still needing to get down to that 15 level and i'll talk to you a little bit about our progress within goal 2 here shortly so overall just some overarching conclusions um on where we are right now are as you remember our ccr index did show improvement compared to last year which is good good news um and while our index gap has increased by a percent it's hovered around that 17 to 18 range for the last six reporting periods so we're a little flat in that area um and the sel index and the access and

opportunity index continue to hold steady so what happens within our work as our work continues we still really have really strong supports in place for goal one um remember i started by talking about how we in covid times really had to narrow our focus with professional development we had to back off on professional development that you might have seen in action steps within the csip in order to maintain focus for our staff we we just don't have the ability um we didn't have the ability to pull lots of staff for a lot of professional development or else with our sub situation we would be in in desperate trouble so we had to back off on that but we still kept the focus on multi-tiered systems of supports and particularly our positive behavior interventions and supports

and that professional development has continued for the last two years that's that has been the main focus for us for our staff and so that's that's working really well um and i would tell you that anytime you implement a new program you have to give it time to for staff to learn and then start working through and implementing that and so um you know in in talking with dr kimbrell and our academic services folks i know that that continues next year too we have to maintain that focus we can't let up on that because we just got started and then for our seo index and impacting that sel piece we are going to conduct a comprehensive review of sel curriculum for elementary next year you might remember that we have character strong at the middle

level that's working really well elementary looked at a few options and piloted in a couple of places conscious discipline and so they they need to come back and talk through how that pilot has gone and if that's truly meeting the needs of a curriculum or if we need to look at other options associated with that so that's exciting because there are some really good options available that we can we can do and i think um that can continue to provide much needed supports for our students from that social emotional learning perspective in terms of goal two um we you might remember i talked um when i shared this information this presentation earlier this year i was telling you that we were working towards having a deib group and so we have a diversity equity inclusion

and belonging council that was established in november and we've conducted three forums to gather input from parents community staff and students related to what the district should start doing stop doing continue doing and consider doing as it relates to diversity equity and inclusion and belonging in park hill and so the team is currently synthesizing feedback and are working toward identifying key drivers for our work and ideally where we're headed is we want to take those drivers we want to get further feedback from our community on them we're going to work with the csip team on those as well to see how those can impact further action steps within our csip in goal 2. and i really do believe that this work is going to make a really great impact on our work and goal too

because as you can see we're flat and so we need a like it's like we need the next bump we need the next step so that we can really truly make an impact on our our two measures within those areas and so um there we will actually have uh our co-chairs from our deib council at the next board meeting to share that work in more detail with you and they're excited to do that i actually we just met about that last night and and so they're excited to come share that work with you a little bit further so that is all i have i'll i'm happy to take any questions that you might have i i am glad that you you brought up um the flatness of of goal 2 because when i went over

the data that was that was what really stuck out to me and and i i do appreciate also what you said about you know we need a kick on this we do so um i know you're working towards that the the issue for me is that you know we're we're nearing the end of five years on this and um you know to me that says um definitely that that's going to be a concern for the next csip but also that we really need to get going i'm glad you brought that up because um dr kimbrell and i have talked quite a bit about as he has mentored me in this role with getting ready to go through the process of of working through the next seasip cycle one of the things that we've talked about

is we've had this interesting two-year interruption because of the pandemic that really kind of got in the way of some things that were going really well i was just saying the other day when you think back to the fall of 2019 and i think about some of the work we were doing we were making some really great strides in in many areas and we're doing some great professional development and some great learning and our staff had really dug into curriculum and instructional strategies and we were common and um and so i i get it who would have thought you know what was going to happen to us and and how big of an impact that was going to have with that said i'm pretty darn proud of the fact that we're flat and we didn't

plummet and i think that's a huge credit to our staff and at all levels that we have continued to really plug in and maintain and also know and recognize we're not there yet and so we definitely have work to do and we definitely are talking about how how do how do we pull that through um because it almost feels like we're not done yet um on this c-sip um because we kind of lost a couple years that was that was my my impression there too and and just as a side note where are we with msep mc6 i know it kind of slowed down for a while we just received actually coming from jesse and you probably received some from msba yeah so about their feedback and so where they are in m76 they're going

to push ahead with it they are okay and so we will be doing our assessments this spring and then they will set a benchmark number for us or a score for us next fall and probably it will be a good topic to have this conversation around because i have a bit of a concern because what they're going to measure this first set on and then your next two years would go with it but you're going to add measures to that and so i i think it's going to be a very challenging assessment i'll just put it that way um and so i hope that you read through it very carefully it's uh it's quite long and uh three pages 113 113 100 and too many pages [Laughter] it is way too long but i am

concerned about just the process of before we even really understand the scoring process and how the scoring process would be we're going to go ahead and assess students and make a judgment based on that and there will be a judgment based on that that'll come out next fall i think we all just got the email yesterday on that from so i'd encourage it but it is and they're in comment period right now i believe correct yes because i do know that we try to kind of be aware of what's in the msip right and it's been delayed absolutely multiple years yes and so that's what's a bit of a yes it's been delayed delayed delayed and all sudden it's been it feels like it's being pushed pretty hard right now that that was my impression

yes so you are correct thank you dr carr maybe this is directed toward you i know that as part of our consent agenda we approve the selfic solutions i suspect that that's going to dovetail well into some of the continued work here can you provide just a little background well we currently have that contract with them and so we really want to work with them next year and finish that workout is the plan and then after that like everything else we want to take it on within park hill uh we think that that's the the right way to do that uh we appreciate what suffolk solutions doing as far as because they're very it's around the strategic planning process which is what we're very interested in i think these next steps that dr dye was

talking about where we will go to our community probably use our park hill listens and identify what's important to our community what does our community believe is the most important pieces we need to be working on identify those and put those in the strategic plan because we've heard from the community and the forums but we want to hear from more so to make sure we get that feedback but to use them to help us guide that work but then move away from them and then we own the work from then on the danger what's going on with him it does and i mean it just connects other dots between the transition that's going to occur with you and uh dr kimbrell and i know as the board evaluated uh our decision that was part of

uh his presentation so it's just great that we're so connected on things that are correct so important in quarter what we want to accomplish we want to keep that transition as smooth as we can i mean i'll just kind of echo what you said um about goal two in goal one like i i was really shocked at the um sel index remaining where it was and for everything that's gone on in our schools and with the pandemic that's really amazing work done by our staff to keep that even flat i mean i know no one's happy with flat but in this case it's it's really phenomenal work so agreed yeah agreed thank you so much thank you our next presentation is a teacher negotiate negotiation update for july 1st 2022 through june 30th 2025. that

doesn't matter and dr renninger just to remind you and sue as you speak you may have to move the mic back and forth so that make sure that we can get it out to the folks here thank you well good evening um happy to be here uh this evening to present an update on this year's negotiations process a couple of reminders that that we've gotten ourselves into kind of a a rhythm with negotiations where we handle language matters in one year and then economic matters in another year with the hope that the board would approve a three-year agreement on language and then typically we will try to do two-year agreements on economics next year coming up would be economics and so there would come a year in there maybe where there wouldn't be negotiations you'd

have a two-year agreement for economics and and still a three-year for language so that's what we're shooting for but first i want to just talk a little bit about the process and before i even begin i should introduce sue mcclung who is here presenting with me this evening sue um chaired the the final meetings of our negotiations process on the teacher's side she serves as a an officer for nea and a teacher at congress teaches sixth grade math so we begin this process dr owens and i did back in december per your board policy we are to meet at the first of each december when it's a negotiating season and talk about language interests actually trade those interests so it goes like this she presents interest that the teachers have and i present interest that

the administrative team would have on behalf of the board and so we we worked through our process that way kind of in a subcommittee fashion starting off in december and then we we sort of go back apart and spend part of january refining those interests and this year we were able to come back together in february and in the kind of the final sessions of refining that language sue sat in with uh with jill and me and we we literally workshopped the language of the agreement the places that we wanted to make changes then we called for a larger team meeting which the the cabinet assistant principals sat in on as well as the entire teacher negotiating team and at that point we went through each item for change just one by one and gave

thumbs up consensus to those items so that we could then bring those and present them to you today how'd i do so yeah got it [Laughter] thanks so uh after bringing this here to you this evening and and pausing to uh to make sure that that we offer you this information we would then ask your approval at the march 24th board meeting of the new agreement so just uh thought we would run through some of these changes um and to be honest with you the the park hill teachers negotiated agreement believe it or not is going on 50 years strong and so it's it's really i mean it's a well-serving document it has done great things for the the teachers um and the entire district and so it really is a matter of refinements at

this point we just don't bring massive changes to you it seems like and so for instance uh one of the items that that we are suggesting as a change to the language is kind of a new sub article um mentioned here under planning period and it's it's a bit of a memorial to the uh the covid period when our teachers have uh very um eagerly and and i would say outstandingly stepped in to uh to fill substitute positions on an hourly basis when when they you know when we haven't been able to fill those so in uh basically in the uh interest of memorializing this we've placed language that would would keep this as a part of our agreement moving forward because it has been a successful solution for us to to pay those teachers

on an hourly basis when they've subbed for us so that's uh that's this bit of change to the language um believe it or not this next one is nothing but a typo that was in the agreement we when when we're doing retirement incentive pay at the end of a teacher's career we require that they've been here for 10 years and for some reason it had been listed as 15 in this little article so this one this is maybe just a good example of the cleanup work that we do then next we made just a small change to to this article on hours and dates of employment and it happens down in that that item d where we've added a phrase of language that says that the principal and and that principal school leadership team will

meet in august of each school year to determine the extra duty evenings that our teachers will be required to uh to to spend there's a certain number of those our teachers are required to uh to give six of those but we're going to make an effort through this language to establish those at the beginning of the year so that our teachers can calendar those and and this is a practice that has mostly happened but we wanted to place that in the agreement so that so that that could be a bit more certainty for our teachers calendars and then the next couple are are really simple as well and and we just have a couple of extra duty riders that needed to be added these are things that have been paid for some time but they

hadn't been listed in our in our set of writers middle school or excuse me high school assistant orchestra for one thing and and then another refinement that we made was to uh to standardize how we're going to pay for honor society at both the high school and the middle school we found some disparity in the way that was handling handled so we wanted to make sure we we had it listed here on the schedule of writers there won't be much of a financial difference to this but it will give consistency across the district and then finally you might remember those those days going back three or four years when house bill 1413 made its way into uh statute here in missouri and and brought some controls around collective bargaining for public sector employees specifically in

our case for teachers subsequently that that was found to be unconstitutional and so we had initially added language to our agreement here in article 44 that would have kept us in compliance with that law but now that that law is is no longer in place we just need to remove this this language so very simply article 44 will be deleted and as i mentioned that represents all of the changes mostly it was it was editing but just with a couple of small instances of of agreement that we needed to make around that language so we would as i mentioned we'd give that to you for your consideration certainly answer any questions that you might have bill i'd just like to thank you and sue actually for your work and for dr owens to know she

can't be here tonight but thank you we're so proud of the relationship that we have and the great work and relationship that we have and the fact that this has been in place and these are the only changes we're making just cleaning up language really is an attachment to the work that's been done so i just appreciate it i just want to say thank you because i've been able to do that and to recognize dr owens for her good work too i just like to say that that yeah it's the changes are minor but the one i i was pleased to see was the the article the addition on the planning period yeah because i i do know that um covet gave us extraordinary times but as a former classroom teacher i know this happens

in non-coveted times as well and while you know our teachers are um i wouldn't say eager they are they are able and willing to step in and and help out a colleague or or about if a sub if we are having sub issues i'm glad to see that there's a methodology here to compensate yeah i think that's good it's a good step i'll just echo dr cower thank you very much for your work we appreciate the relationship and all the work that was done to go into this so thank you thanks all right we have seven information items this evenings item uh 8.1 through 8.3 your bids contracts agreements items 8.4 through 8.7 are related to curriculum the board will be asked to take action on these items at the march 24th regular meeting are

there any questions for dr coward i do just have one on the panorama is that now spread district wider all right it always has been it always has been nice because i thought we'd well maybe we had just um started using it on the secondary side and then have uh we've been using since 2017 2017. we're adding some functionality um so the you heard dr dylan talk about our intervention systems yes and so one piece of it is our ability to measure things like the sel index and surveying and that's what we've used since uh the whole csip time frame but one of the other pieces is is that it has the ability to give kind of a dashboarding on student data that allows for how is a student doing relative to their attendance their

academics their potential behavior and um putting these all into one place and being a very usable tool for teachers to identify kids quick that need intervention and so that's the additional functionality but it's an annual agreement that we've entered into and then plan on implementing that all the way through all schools next year and dr campbell would you mind on sel we always we use that term kind of loosely as we goes and so would you talk about the the parts that make that up the grit the other parts that we're actually yeah so people understand what the idea is you asked that because i i went and jotted those down because i wanted to make sure that i was getting those uh correct so sel which stands for social emotional learning is a concept

in which we are asking students uh questions through basically a self-assessment and they uh respond in the areas of grit social awareness self-management and then the final one i got to look here is emotion regulation and the i always tell this that the questions aren't set up where they say like how gritty are you they are set up where it says when given a long task how likely are you to complete that task over a certain you know over a month um i don't know all the exact items but there's a set of items then that have been researched and then they measure that and the great thing about panorama is it gives us comparative data and what that allows us to do is see how our kids are responding relative to schools across the

nation that are similar and we know so our c-sep goal is to get that to i believe 67 percent and that's because we want to be in the top third of all schools across the nation in that measure of schools like us and so we're at 65 and we're trying to get to that uh that 67 percent those are norms based before the pandemic as well so i don't know if those norms will change um after uh panorama re re-does that work after covet okay well i know through the interview process we did hear of quite a few other school districts that found value in the panorama system as well our program as well so that was always good to hear well it's nice a district we can compare but also building building they can

compare so they can see where they are and that's an important piece so i just want to make sure people understand what we're talking about when we talk about social emotional learning what it is versus what it is not so thank you that raised the question when dr kimbrough was answering when we look at our our ccr index numbers and we're at 67 or whatever the percentage was is that consistent throughout the district like our three high schools or is it different in terms of uh do we see differences between the schools they're pretty close um they're pretty close we see obviously a little bit more variance in the elementary schools because there's 11 of them and so but with our high schools even in leed park hill high school and park hill south we

tend to see those be within a few points of each other what we study mr monces is we study to see are there any pieces of that index that might be differing so that we can study and see okay is park hill high school doing something that perhaps south and lead are not doing relative to say math achievement or something like that so we look at we studied there but the overall index ends up being very similar across our buildings all right and that's happened before because i remember we did have i think it was math where there was a cohort that was off one year at one of the schools and i remember we could narrow it down i think even to the classroom to figure out what was going on right it's helpful

data okay thank you i guess i would like to point out on the curriculum piece that our curriculum is on our website and this is a normal curriculum process that we have for revisions for our curriculum our next section is policies procedures and forms we have two policies tonight that will require board action 9.1 policy bbb school board elections and 9.2 policy bddh public participation at board meetings hello mr folger hello we looked at these last meeting and uh the main item we discussed was public comment changes and process there um there is one update we made the main one being that since our last meeting the way we've structured this and proposed it happen you know each speaker has a three minute time limit and we were kind of wrestling with what to do

with an overall time limit did we do 20 21 minutes do we line that up what we proposed as an alternative would be to just have a specific set designated number of speakers um and each would have three minutes so uh that could be six speakers that could be seven something like that to approximate the total time we were looking at before but that's the main update and we have uh tweaked both the policy language and the the process and the form slightly to go that direction so uh and then the other one the other part is that myself and miss hibbs and dr kelly have continued to work on a pre-registration process and think we have that pretty close and would be able to launch that before our next meeting to actually rolled out

this change so those are the main things i wanted to highlight i'm happy to answer any other questions you have also if uh that the number of speakers is not set in board policy so it doesn't require a board action but if the board has input there i'd love to hear that too so okay i did really appreciate the robust discussion that the board has had about this and and with public input as well but um you know we we want to make sure that our public is heard but we also keep in mind that essentially this is a board meeting and that if an issue rises that that there's a lot of public wanting to to make make comments that we can create a a forum instead so i know that's a difficult concept

sometimes yeah and i guess i will back up um for our public um kind of our reasoning for addressing this has been you know i think there's been a general chaos around our public comments as of late and so um this arose both for our benefit and the public because the process even to come make public comments was not very clear and so both in our process of us wanting to be able to conduct a productive board meeting and clarify with our pup public about how to make public comments this is that's where the very robust discussion came and so we do really appreciate all the the depth of our discussion on this so um and i know we've said this before but we're not trying to stifle public comment at all we're just trying

to make it more clear for everyone to know and the process better and more productive for our point of view as well so i think the things we talked about last week really very good start toward that goal so um i don't have strong feelings about how many i would say maybe seven six seven something like that um for a defined time period as opposed to uh no i think they're there what clay was saying is it's much easier to have a number when you sign up and say be able to say we're going to have six speakers or seven speakers or whatever and then everyone would be able to know okay so and then i think the time frame we talked about was you said noon on tuesday through noon on thursday yeah we

put it on that there's a document in there if you want to look at that that talks about that on process and we just want to automate this as much as we can and so we'd be using that sign up genius so that people would know that there's spaces available and the other piece behind that we could add for you if you would like board would be some type either at the beginning of the top that says once these are full please we want to hear from you send your comments to the board sec to the you know board secretary and that those would be shared with all the board members and so that we would have that information out there to you too so i want to make sure that was clear but so

yeah noon on tuesday to noon on thursday i know that in conversations with patrons i've always um assured them that you know the board took the the notes and emails that were sent in very seriously and took took the time to read every single one of those so either one gets us that information yeah yeah i don't know how we relay that sentiment to our public but i i've always felt like every board member took those very seriously and read those as they came in i really like that on that process and format piece you have it's 48 they have plenty of time yeah you know between that afternoon and the day evening depending on how parents and guardian schedules are they can get in there and sign up yeah and we do understand we

do try to post our agenda no later than five o'clock on tuesday but sometimes things just happen and we can't but we also know that we want to give them time to to sign up and have those information pieces too so sometimes it's about the agenda sometimes it's not so we want to we want to recognize that i'd feel comfortable with six i don't know if anyone else i was thinking closer to seven or maybe a little bit more seven to ten yeah i know we had talked about since we weren't having two public comment sessions to try and lengthen it a little bit so i guess that was my only idea with seven but it's kind of an odd number i'd say a minimum of seven yeah i just want to make a comment

in my opinion this paul the process and format it's up to the president to be the final arbiter of that if we're if the board's not going to vote on it because the president is in charge of the meetings that's it's in her description under policy i just want to be clear about it it's not administration setting this it's the president right but with with wise input yeah um but that's why i appreciate even the pre-registration and that kind of thing because then everyone's on the same page and it's not just i think i think yeah i'm perfectly happy with it i just want to make it clear yeah i appreciate that that's good we just want to do the will of the board and whatever it is we just need to set up on

the sign up genius and that kind of stuff for you i think i could i could do seven it needs to be because we know it needs to be in my mind it needs to be more than the five that conceivably could have gotten in in one of our sessions but if we have a lot more input more than than like seven it may indicate a larger issue right absolutely i would certainly expect that so yeah i don't know that we necessarily need to build into our process that you know if we had more than that speakers then this would happen but i think the board is very receptive and reactive to public sentiment so if we continue to have that many speakers that weren't being heard we would do something so so seven seven

yeah and if we need to revise it we can revisit that okay so and we appreciate you keeping the policy at the high governance level and then working on the process separately so thank you okay all right and i did notice on school board elections so even if um we only had two candidates for two spots but we had a bond election we would still have them on the ballot to your name all right is there was that msba suggestion or is there a reasoning behind that or i don't know exactly but that was part of what got clarified and i uh if there's confusion or even some sort of misunderstanding about that initially but i don't know the exactly well we would we pay for uh our part of the election there's some fee

involved and i i think maybe that's just recognizing that we'd still be on the on the ballot no matter what so but in the past we have not had to pay that if we didn't have anything on the ballot yeah um but we still wouldn't unless we had another issue yeah so so we we've been able to have a cost savings passed if that didn't occur and we still will in the future if there's nobody not charged by right issue are we correct no wait that might come [Laughter] okay then i would need a motion in a second to approve policies 9.1 and 9.2 as presented absolutely second motion for mr klein in a second by ms reed to approve policies presented all those in favor say aye aye any opposed motion carries 7-0 thank

you thank you all right public comments from the posted agenda are there any patrons that wish to address the board regarding any items from tonight's posted agenda so you can step forward seeing none we'll move to board member reports and requests mrs neuberger i i would like to thank dr coward for her brilliant idea of vm years ago for the employee or the retiree coffee i think it's been communicated to dr kimbrell that um i don't know you'll come back and haunt him or something bad will happen to him um that group is obviously since i'm part of that group but you know the most intelligent group that you could ever have at the school but enthusiastic yeah enthusiastic supporters of the school district and the the long-term dedication to this school district not only

um through their their working life but as retirees as community members is just so inspiring and i'm really pleased to be part of that group and and was so happy to be able to be in person this time so that's nice even when one started in 1965 was the oldest one there in the district so it's impressive this is woodley just quickly i wanted to um disrespectfully put in a request um at msba forum we talked about um again i dress our teachers and um how the whole state is really dealing with um just retention and the great resignation is the the the word that's or the phrases being used and i didn't know if it's possible for us to be able to get an update of how our teachers are doing i kind of

consulted with to my board members when i had teachers contact me about just issues and concerns and teachers are the soul of our of our of education and if we don't nurture and take care and keep that that soul healthy that um trinkles down to our students i just didn't know if there's possibility to have some kind of a checkup of how teachers are doing you know i know there's also you know student behavior issues that are going on as well but if there's any way we can have a checkup of just you know they're informed of the process any professional development being done any number of incidents that you know just so the board is aware of what's going on and where teachers know that we are definitely looking at it at our level

mr klein none thank you mr fayne um i sat in on a a conference today that um came across i think in large part because of i think yesterday was i'm trying to think international it was tuesday international women's day yeah international women's day thank you for that and um we have a group within my company called women in technology and they did an awesome job in relation to inclusion and implicit bias and i know that this board's done a lot of work on that we've done a lot of reading a lot of study and i have to say it was really an aha moment for me the way that it was presented so i'm hopeful that this these are some resources or at least the presentation um if i get a hold of it

i'd love to share and then i'd also certainly want to forward that on to to dr dion just as a a thought starter really helped um again it just really helped me personally it was the way it the way in which it was communicated uh opened my eyes and then alternatively i i know that um all of us are very thoughtful about what's happening in the ukraine and i think about the disruption that we had with covid but i can't imagine the disruption that they're going through and just continue to think about that nation and the challenges that they're up against mr monsos yes i had the the pleasure of doing a book study with the ap lit class at park hill lead which my daughter is taking my daughter asked mrs farber if i

could join and it was amazing listening to those kids discuss we read 1984 and it was it was very applicable to some of the things we're seeing with propaganda coming out of the terrible war situation but i i am so i have so much more hope for the future after visiting with those kids and the kids in the park hill school district that are going to be the leaders in the future and i'm i'm been talking about this a lot lately and i really look forward as code goes away we go back to normal hopefully very soon completely and get all kinds of folks back in the buildings that we can start mending fences and come back together as the friends and neighbors that we are and the awesome things we're doing here take them

across the state across the city across the country i would love that misery no thank you i don't have anything and we have no closed session tonight so our meeting is adjourned at 7 33 pm thanks
