But do you let adults on those on those buses or do kids come off the buses to meet them? This guy got on the bus. So from the bus ride to the social media, you got to include all of that stuff now. So I think now something has to be talked over from the district. What can you do? Something's got to be done. I'm going to be on this all year if I have to stand up here and do this. Now, when I I a little and I said, I've been coming up here since 19 and it hasn't all been pleasant. I've been a bad boy sometimes, but then I can be your best friend, too. And right now, I'm trying to be the best friend. Let's get something talking. Thanks for the time. I
appreciate it. Aenda for the regular meeting of the board of education is scheduled for October 15, 2025. >> So move. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Any opposed? Motion carries 6. Uh the next regular board meeting will take place Wednesday, November 12th, beginning at 7 p.m. right here at the Parkway Welcome Center. The board of education workshop will be held on Monday, November 10th, beginning at 5:00 pm at the welcome center. Uh Matt, you want to start us off with board and present? >> I have nothing profound to share tonight. So, I'm going to go ahead and pass. >> Um, it's only been a couple of weeks since our last meeting. Uh, few things. Uh, went to the mayor's cup. The mayor is here today. Uh, whereas Parkway West versus Parkway Central. Parkway West
came victorious in a pretty interesting game. Um, prior to that though, Parkway Central Middle had a nice tailgate. I'm a firsttime Parkway Central Middle parent, so that was great to go to. Um, but other than that, it's been a great couple of weeks. Um, other than as our speaker said, we've had a couple of issues, but we're working through that. Um, but that's really my report for the >> Yeah, not not a whole lot to report. Um, last weekend, uh, so I've got one at, uh, McKelie. Uh, so we had our Mckelby fun run up at Parkway North. So that's always fun. get up early, kids run around, and I can't keep up with them. So, that was uh that was good. Um otherwise, just staying busy with fall sports with my kids and uh
looking forward to the temperature coming down a little bit at some point, but I don't know if that's going to happen. So, otherwise, uh that's it. Um as as they've said, it hasn't been that long since we last met. Um but I finally got to a football game this year. Um it was a couple weeks ago. Uh and our um middle schoolers were able to come and perform with the band and um they the the football players, the junior football players and junior cheerleaders got a chance to um have their have their day, their 15 minutes of fame. Um so it was great and and the weather was beautiful. I I actually want to stay right about this temperature. I I I'm not looking forward to the winter months. Um we're also in that season
of parent teacher conferences. So um you know that means we are halfway through the semester and this year finals are before uh winter break which is a great thing for our high schoolers because that gives an op gives them and the teachers an opportunity to actually have a break. Um, this is also a good time to check in with the students and teachers so that we can finish strong. I know I'm doing that with my boys at home so that we can finish the semester strong. >> We know we're struggling to come up with content when two of the six board members mentioned the weather. Um, since the last meeting, I attended Bel Ree Cultural Night, which was outstanding. I want to give a special recognition to the nation of Sagal for creating these incredible
they're not called they're sort of a meat pocket thing. So uh big uh big recognition to Sagal. Uh and finally I want to talk about transportation. I think we all you know for years and years and years kids ride buses to school. I think some of us maybe take it for granted that you know this enormous area of land every morning the kids go out they get on a you know vehicle and they end up where they're supposed to be. Uh, and this was highlighted for me because, uh, our daughter's bus route, we live pretty far from her elementary school and she was riding the bus for like an hour every day and you there's some inconsistencies because, you know, it's it's a big region. Uh, called our transportation department. They were incredible. They immediately,
you know, juggled some routes, got her on a more consistent schedule, cut her drive time down by 20 minutes, and, uh, Steven Jones actually showed up in front of my house to make sure she got on the bus at the right time on the first day. So, I very very appreciative to our transportation department and uh the unsung heroes of Parkway. They're driving these kids to school every day. Debbie, >> Debbie Censor Ricard, she wasn't able to be here tonight, but she and I did attend uh the PNA steering committee meeting uh a couple of weeks ago. This is a negotiation year uh with our our teachers uh group and uh we're we've had two really good well two the two that I've been involved in uh have been really good uh productive um seasons
of negotiations the last several uh cycles and um I I I'm one that actually is looking forward to it. It's uh these meetings leading up to the actual negotiations uh of uh of terms and things that that uh the district is looking for and the teachers are looking for and the compromise that that results uh between them. Um it's actually an enjoyable process and uh the board is while we're not involved directly in the negotiations, the process leading up to it is informational and and uh we I always learn a I assume my fellow board members do as well. Um, and again, uh, the mayor's cup game, I we we just appreciate Chesterfield doing that for us, uh, these many years. I think this is what, the 13th or 14th year that we've done it.
And, uh, it's a great, uh, camaraderie. Um, great, uh, great community event. Um, and I think that's, uh, about it. >> All right. A couple of you did mention the weather. I will, too. I am super excited that uh our families and kids probably get a nice fall break. I hope that they can enjoy some time outdoors and I'm I'm looking forward to that for them. Um this past week we had our third budget task force meeting which is an internal group of diverse stakeholders in the Parkway employee group uh to be able to sort through uh current status of our budget and uh implications of our senior citizens tax freeze uh and planning for the future. Uh I intended I also attended the Bellere culture night the other night and uh I didn't see
I we must not have crossed paths but it was uh it was impressive and it smelled so good there. There were so many different types of food and I thought this is uh this is a great way for a community to come out and celebrate at a school level. Um that same night, this is probably why I didn't bump into you. Um I went over to the uh North choir concert which was absolutely beautiful. Eight weeks into the school year, multiple choirs performed. They they just the music was it sounded wonderful. Um I also attended the Mayor's Cup football game, my first one uh with uh Mayor Hurt who is here tonight as well. It was enjoyable. The kids I always marvel at how much comes together at a football game with the choir and
the dance and the I'm sorry, the band and the um the dance and the cheerleaders and the athletes and just all the fans. It was it's all the football games have been like that. I'm I'm super proud. And and last but not least, I want to just comment as well on transportation because next week is bus safety week. And uh I just I could not be more proud when driving around town to see our parkway buses going all the different places that they go and taking our our our kids where they need to be. So I I too commented that on that uh in my payday notes this week and also had some memories about my my own bus rides as a kid. So thanks for bringing that up. >> Thank you. Uh, next up
on our agenda is our consent agenda. Uh, we've all had an opportunity to review that over the last uh, week or so. So, may I have a motion to approve the consent as approve the consent agenda as uh, presented in the October 15, 2025 board meeting materials? >> Second. >> There anything to be pulled to action or closed? >> All in favor? >> Any opposed? Any obstensions? Motion carries 6. Uh we have no action items tonight, no policy review, no official reports. However, we do have a couple of work sessions. Uh we'll begin with Fern Ridge comprehensive program evaluation. So I'll invite Sarah Power, coordinator of Fernidge, Lindseay Perkins, director of choice programs, and Kevin Beckner, our assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. >> Good evening, President Todd. Miss Hopper, who's not here with us
this evening, esteemed members of the board, Dr. Snyder and Miss Stober, Dr. Sarah Power and I are pleased to be with you here tonight to begin our comprehensive evaluation of Bernidge. Fernidge has a rich history in our district that has been part of the fabric of our district for uh since 1992 and it has evolved in many ways to be able to curate and a support and environment for our students here in our district. We're very proud of the work that we do there and we're also looking forward to going through this process alongside you this year. So I'm going to first talk about what Thank you Sarah. She knew I was she didn't read my mind. So our program evaluation goals. We are evaluating the most impactful way to serve Fern Fernidge students now
and in the future especially knowing that their needs are so vastly different depending on why they choose to pursue an enrollment at Fern. We want to do that so that we can make informed decisions regarding the staffing, program awareness, and personalized learning opportunities that we want to be able to offer these students in the future. So, I'm going to pass it over to Dr. Powers. She's going to talk to you about our process and what our goals are for this year. So, we have three items that we're hoping to do during our during this time, and we have three questions we're going to ask. So, how can we ensure our staffing effectively addresses the diverse needs of all students at Fernidge? Secondly, how can we enhance stakeholders awareness of Fernidge identity and the unique benefits
it offers to Parkway students? And lastly, what instructional intervention and programming elements are essential at Fernidge to prepare students for evolving world. So, to do that, we've got a process and a timeline that we're going to follow. We've already started where we have uh a leadership team put together. We've already done our first survey of students, staff, and parents which got us our guiding questions that we just read. We've had some board feedback at our subcommittee. Today, we're here to get some more feedback from you guys. In November, December, we're going to do a district survey based on your guys' feedback. After December, we're going to get a focus group together again with more parents, staff, and students. and we're going to add our district administration there. From those results, we're going to then create
the areas of study, prepare some recommendations, findings from that study, and then come back to you guys in April. And from now, what questions do you guys have of us if any? >> It's okay if you don't because we are fabulous. I'm just looking back at um your guiding questions slide and um first of all, thank you for doing this work. How long has it been since we've done a program evaluation for >> um so this is my fourth year um as a coordinator and I know Jennifer did it I think in 19 but it wasn't a full comprehensive program of L. I think it was more of a just a smaller one. Um so it might have been with Dr. Warren. Um, and six 15. >> Yeah, 15. We move over. Yeah. Get me.
>> Uh, your your first guiding question u how can we ensure our staffing effectively addresses the diverse needs of all students? Does that will that go deeper into is your to look at your staffing model from the standpoint of are you effectively are you appropriately staff for the needs. >> Yeah. So when we talked with um Tony Arnold that was one of the first things we discussed with him um just kind of we have to look through every single item why why what's the purpose? What's their need? What are they doing? Um, we put some data together already kind of just of each staff member. Um, and just making sure we utilize everybody the best way >> in that. Um, are you planning to compare Fern uh what Fern has to offer as far as
electives and things like that compared to uh the traditional high schools? >> Um, I don't know if that was one of I mean that I think that might be we could put that on the table. um we were going to be looking at the other alternative schools um in the area. That was one of the things we were considering. Um but definitely I think looking at the four high schools um we've tried to be robust um and some of our newer um offerings for the past four years. Um so we look at some of the issues that we've noticed um obviously with some of the trade schools. So some of our um class like we have a new class called life ski you know like advanced life skills uh the digital age um we've got
eye for design. So ones that are a little bit more of the students who represent the the kids that are coming to us. Um but yeah, we'll definitely add that. >> I was just happy to see that second question because I know even though untrue, there is a stigma def uh and you know, however we can get rid of that stigma, I think is a great and and I think that second question really hits the head. Um it's it's you know, if you know about Front Ridge, I don't think you have that stigma. It's the outside presence. >> Yeah. I don't know if you guys were able to watch um our alumni panel. Um Adam was there and did a wonderful job from communications team. Um and so we had just six wonderful uh alumni
come back and just really talk about just I mean if when you watch it you I I shared it with my family. Like I don't talk about my I I try not to you know talk about school all the time but I sent it to my family and I was just like listen to what you know the alumni has to say about our kids and our f I mean our community. It's just it impacts them so much and so um yeah that's what we're wanting to do is shout from the rooftop how wonderful we are and how wonderful we should continue to be. >> Not to go too far off topic but that might be something you might consider for graduation. I always enjoy your graduation ceremonies, but maybe to have an alumni come back.
>> We have talked, we actually talked about it because they did so good. We were like, man, we should maybe think about having alumni come back. Yeah. >> Um, I have a question in regards to the district survey. Yeah. >> So, is that going to all parents within the district or or specific to parents that have students at Fernidge? >> So, we were going to talk with Nathan Tyson about that. Um, there's a part of us that we think maybe could be targeted. Um, so we've got the data to be able to ask because the program has changed um throughout time. Um, we got to figure out what's the best way to get the best feedback based on the questions that we have. Um, so yeah, um, my hope is to be able to get
some because just as you guys talked about, you know, it's not just our the Fernri family, it's everybody. Um, so we need to hear all all voices. >> Okay. >> All right. Thanks you guys. appreciate you. >> Next up, uh, program evaluation time for athletics and activities. Uh, so I will invite Dr. Tiffany home or deputy superintendent Corey Johnson, director of athletics and activities. >> Good evening, President Todd and members of board education, Dr. Schneider, Miss Vince Stove. It gives me a great pleasure to introduce Corey Johnson, our director of activities and athletics to go through the program review. >> Again, thank you to Dr. Schneider, um, President Todd, and and our board. Um, so we are going into look at at U went the wrong way there. There we go. Um, our target evaluation
this year for athletics and activities. And, um, we're launching this just basically mainly to ensure that, um, everything that we do aligns from what we offer to, um, our our objectives and then also into other other areas for our, you know, for our students and and for our staff. And with this review, um we're looking to be critical and comprehensive at um how we serve our students and then also to look proactively um and set a clear path, you know, moving forward um in the future. of our evaluation team. Um, as you can see the the members there, we met um last month and we think that um with with uh our program and and looking at at all levels of our of our program um you know our team um is diverse. It it
meets multiple levels and then has input from from multiple stakeholders. And our our main purpose here um will really look at the opportunities um that we have for our students um and looking at focusing on essential opportunities to help them build life skills both with character um a sense of belonging and then leadership and sportsmanship. So that's our our primary premise um with looking at um what we offer and what we have with our with our programming. our goal there um to evaluate and determine um improvements both from our our mission and vision, our facilities, health and safety and and our offerings and and participation. So with that overall goal, um looking at our department, um to determine what um specific actionable improvements we have, um going forward, you know, in those in those four
primary focus areas. Um and within looking at at each of those um components, um we have our guided questions that will allow us to dig deeper and research um the impact that each of those main topics have, you know, for our students and and for our programs. With our mission and vision, we want to look just um not just at the experience, but also for things such as um are there barriers and if if there are barriers, are those barriers affecting um participation and and the and the student experience um with our offerings. We want to try to ensure um that our that our offerings really that they fit our needs and that they're responsive to trends, whether those are enrollment tw uh trends, um equity considerations, and other components that may have outside var
variables that will impact um our offerings and our and our participation, our our health and safety um topic. Um those questions will look at various things. Um, we've had some meetings that have started already with things such as crowd management. Um, and then also into looking at our expectations for our coaches. Um, and then doing things like promoting um, student well uh, health and safety and also um, providing mental health res uh, resources for our students as that closely aligns and ties into a lot of the offerings um, that we that we have for our students. with this health and safety component. The security department is also going through their targeted review and so we will align some of our work um and partner with them to again to sure that we are are coming
up with uh common solutions that are um together with both athletics activities and security. So we we will have um some input from them and then also be a part of of uh information in regard to their um targeted review also. And then lastly, facilities. Um we'll look at our our facilities, look at specific needs, um looking at if our facilities currently meet our needs both at the middle and high school level and then also looking at future needs. And as we go into looking at future needs, that will be become also a a robust part of the Parkway facilities 20 uh 2050 in regard to how things will look and what we will possibly need um to continue to serve our students um in the future. our methods. We will we've actually already started
um some of our surveys um just checking for things that we did with our stakeholder group with in regard to our main topics and our guided questions. Um, we have started surveying um, some of our students and their parents for possible um, interest outside of what we currently offer and we've gotten some some uh, nice feedback on that. Um, researching those things to see what's feasible, what's doable, what's practical, and how that would compare to um, offerings of our neighbors. And so that's one of the things that comes into play with looking at our our four main topics is our neighbors um neighboring districts and neighboring schools also impact some of this. And so we will be looking at offerings at other schools because when we start talking about activities and athletics, we have to
have someone to play and to participate with other than just our four schools. So what um our community in in terms of the region offers also impacts this. So that's where some of the um the um additional research will will lie and then obviously collecting that and then um analyzing that like I said along with with um our neighboring our neighboring districts to kind of give us a a model of what's feasible, what we can offer um and what will be beneficial to you know to our students going forward. Um as as just previously mentioned our timeline we have already started some of our surveys. Um our stakeholder group has met um to give feedback on our main topics and our guiding questions. Um we did submit our our memo um to the board in
August for our review. Um we're in that stage now of surveying and collecting data. We will continue to do that and then start um as we get later into the winter months analyzing and processing that data and have a report um ready to go um for you um this spring. Any questions? >> Um thank you for that. We're we're looking forward to this uh for sure. um under and I'm going to guess maybe this falls under mission and vision but um excuse me we heard tonight a number of schools recognized for character achievements excuse me uh and I know uh being around coaches the the character development of of athletes and students is is important. Is there going to be any particular focus in character education and reinforcement? >> Yeah, that's my book. >> Some
of our questioning will include components of sportsmanship, leadership, and character. And that's will be part of uh polling our our coaches and our students in regard to what those needs are for them and what that will look like so that we can see um how to best support that and then again that if if what we're doing um aligns with what is needed. >> Okay, great. Thanks. >> Quick question on the facilities and health and safety because I think it goes together. Is there any thought of looking at um how our facilities impact and the safety of our spectators um with our you know aging facilities obviously handrails things like that? >> Yes. >> Um is that going to be part of this? I know and as it should be very student and and centric
but will that be a part of this as well? So again, when we get to um that stage um as I was uh recently informed, when we get to that stage where we're looking more at um our outside grounds and facilities as a part of the facilities 2050, that's where a lot more of that will come into play because that's where um the focus point will transition to that and that will include um a a larger scope of not just our grounds, but obviously then our athletic facilities because they're they're on our grounds. And I I will add too from from a timeline perspective and also um just for um how how we've we've we've gotten here the the last um activities and athletic uh pro program review actually was was it was before CO
but it got delayed and so the findings um were pushed to coming out of CO but things looked obviously quite a bit different um for us when when we came out of CO based off of a a lot of things from you know new safety and and uh health um guidelines um security guidelines and all those things. So um quite a bit has has changed because like I said co interrupted our last um review. So from the start of it to where we were afterwards it was it you know was kind of uh disjunct there. So um that'll that'll also be um you know help us with with where we've been and then you know guiding us going forward. All right. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> That's good. I guess on >> All right.
Uh I don't need a motion. That's right. >> Okay. This time we will conclude our open meeting and we appreciate everyone's attendance time. Thank you.
