Welcome everyone. >> Approve the February 9th, 2026 agenda. Second motion made and seconded. Motion passes. >> Next we'll have report of board members. Rick Edna President again have the pleasure of attending the chamber lunchon last month thing I want to say is to our Raytown Ray High and Ray South students >> and currently there's a window open for 11th grade student with Casey scholars great jobs case it's a $50,000 to the student that runs it. I challenge both and South to apply 11th graders to apply for that scholarship. Currently, Ray South has 19 applicants that have applied for it and Ray High has 18. You guys are pretty much neck and neck right now. I want to see somebody, all of them, both of you, to excel in in applying for that scholarship. It's money
that you don't want to leave on the table. If you're eligible, go for it. Get that $50,000. That's my report. >> Thank you. >> Good evening, everybody. Um, I did a couple of things over this month. Uh, I attended the Grey Town uh hub meeting and I was explained that that's a meeting where a lot of the services or businesses in great town come together and see how that they can unify and help the services needed in our community. It's a wonderful if any of you have a business or want to kind of look into that, you can look at Jackson County Combat uh to Jackson County Combat and we can get you into that or either in Sisters in Christ, they can get you in that. And also I attended the Raytown Raytown Educational
Foundation meeting on the 28th and the featured guest that night was uh speaking about the Herman school program. I was so impressed. I was so impressed. I got to get over there more and see what is going on. Uh she was talking about the current programs that have improved and new programs that are on the table and coming down the pipe that have been approved. Uh it sounds like that permanent is is moving. So congratulations for that and that sounds good. >> All right, Mr. Jameson. >> Good evening everyone. Um, just want to say happy uh, Black History Month. Um, also happy fall spring. Um, it was very hot today. Um, my my month was pretty short. Um, I went to Raytown South for their pep assembly on Friday. Um, and it was a great
time. A lot of people don't look good in bright pink and yellow neon wigs. Um, but the students looked like they had a lot of fun. Um, and I definitely enjoyed myself. Um, I'll have a much more busier February this year. >> Awesome, Mr. President. Uh, good evening everyone. I just wanted to uh shout out the ladies at Reap and thank the teachers uh for coming over to uh my building and getting all kind of goodies for the students in their rooms. Um, and Ver Lindon, Judy Briggs, um, Jan, Karen, I mean Kathy and Mary Oiler, our head ladies over there. Uh it was a great time. I saw so many teachers. Uh we got so many great emails. Uh we give out $25 gift cards as well to uh 10 different teachers. Uh so
we got a lot of emails back about that. Also looking forward to being the best reader at the schools this year. Probably going to be the best reader out the entire board. But uh going to beat all you guys. Um I'm just saying it right now. Just put this. So clock it and put it on the bill. Thank you, Matt. Um and that's that's my board challenge >> challenge. >> All right. Thank I want to thank the board members for the report. That will be that will conclude them and uh thank you for just being uh active as a board going above and beyond um what we are called to do as board member being part of the community integrated in it. >> Mr. President, I apologize. I want to give you guys the deadline
for that scholarship. It's February 27th at 5:00 p.m. You put it in at 501 and you've missed it. February 27th, 5:00 p.m. >> They already applied. >> He's a senior that already got >> to go get it. Man, that's messed up, man. That's messed up. >> Okay. Next, we have the report of the superintendent. >> Thank you, Chairman Burton, members of the Raytown Quality School District board, and members of the Raytown Quality School District community. Uh it's not ironic, but it is uh an honor for me to recognize the work that is happening at H. Hearnden. Uh one of the items that I wanted to say out loud was that I attended the Hearnden uh open house the other evening. I think you hid for me, but it's okay. Um but it was a lot
going on and it was great to see the number of individuals who are interested in attending H. Hearnden. And if we have individuals who are uh accepted into the program before they have to apply, let's make sure we get those applications in quickly. But it's a lot to offer and there were a lot of individuals who were present who recognize what we offer here in Raytown through our H. Hearnden career center. And so thank you Dr. Riker uh for your leadership and all that you do. Um I know that many people kind of have an understanding of H. Hearnden but understand that attending H. turned in. We have individuals who graduate with certificates and with jobs already lined up and prepared for them in the areas of CTE. And I believe that's just one of
the pathways that we're continuing to make sure our students access um so that they have multiple options upon graduation. They can take CTE programs, go to college, get a job, go into the military, get a job that has college reimbursement, and have the best of both worlds. So, thank you again for Cheryl, Dr. Riker and the uh members of the Hearnden Career Center. I also last week had the opportunity to see our children with their brains in action. I attended the scholar bowl over at South High and just watching our students just respond so quickly uh to those questions. A few of them got be beyond me. Um but I was a able to answer all the music questions. Uh even even I heard a laughter in the background. even reminding them how to pronounce
Vorjac's name. Um, so I could have been at the table, but I just would have been a ringer. So, I just want to say thank you to our students for their great work uh in their competitiveness, but also for our teachers who put on uh the scholar bowl and those who were there asking questions and supporting our students. And finally, I also attended family fun night at Northwood School. If you've never visited Northwood School, I encourage you to do so. It is a true meaning of all means all. We are educating all of our children, providing them with the supports that they need, but more so we're engaging our families in ways they probably would never be engaged because of um the abilities of many of our children. And what we can say with the
work that's happening at Northwood School, the bar is raised high, but every time I visit, I never worry about the well-being of the children because the staff that's there are the staff that the students need. So, I just wanted to tip my hat. Um, I even had a balloon on my head uh taking pictures with the kids because it's truly meaning all four kids. And so, that concludes my portion of the superintendent's report. And I want to now go to our amazing students giving the student representatives report for item 8.5. >> Hello guys. Uh my name is Casey Hayes and I'm a student representative at Raytown South. Hi, I'm Jenna Voodio and I'm the president of Raytown South Student Council. >> So, first we had our assembly. I'm sure you guys someone already mentioned it.
We had a rock paper scissors competition the whole day. It was pretty cool but very chaotic as well cuz a lot of like four like all the students were just you know snatching beads off your neck cuz if you lost and that was really Canada for me. Yeah, I'm not going to explain it further. Uh, it was also for a rival assembly. That was pretty nice. Uh, our girls are coming, our girls wrestling is going to districts this week for um for yeah for wrestling and it's at Carney and then the next week is going to be boys wrestling, but it's going to be at Belton. Uh, girls, our girls swim has concluded their uh season. I don't know the stats as well, but I know a lot of them finished pretty well. Uh, Mont
Trial Montrial is in second year of competition and they won both of their first round ballots and their next round is the 24th of February. Our debate conference our de our debate conference was at William Chrisman this year and two of our debaters Alyssa Rodriguez Lro and Jay Brown both finished as all state conference. Yeah. And then the la yeah yeah the last thing for me is the Valentine's Day door competition. We're h holding a door competition for our school. So each advisory has its own door and we get to decorate which like decorate who has the best Valentine's Day door basically. Yeah. >> NHS had our annual blood drive on January 29th and we had like an amazing record number of signups. I think it was like over 60 like original signups. So, one
thing that we did kind of differently this year was having like the table open like at lunch for students to come in, but also promoting at like the game between Grand View. So, we did like a little competition there to see between Grand View and Race South like who could get the most like sign up. So, we got like eight people to sign up. Not like a crazy number, but still like at a basketball game like you know like you're not coming in to donate blood, but we still got some people interested. And Chick-fil-A also donated gift cards for us. So there was a great incentive for people to also like come in and get that free sandwich or nuggets. And another thing that we've been doing is a penny wars. So this is like
a grade level thing. So just bring in your spare change or anything. Um and then they're going to weigh the buckets. They weigh the buckets I believe like last week and it went towards like spirit points for the assembly. Just like a easy fundraiser. And then Scholar Bowl, like you guys have mentioned, Scholar Bowl has been growing and they actually have their last match on March 11th. So, they've been having a pretty good season so far and they've had a lot of new members join. >> Yeah. Uh, our last thing is our basketball and cheerleading senior night is tomorrow. We would like to see you guys support our basketball basketball guys. Thank you. >> We also had a few state qualifiers in FBA. I forgot to mention that, but um me, Johnny Felder, um Irma
Jalo, Marzelle Bell, and also Leo Buouie were all able to qualify to state for FLA. So, we also have DECA coming up soon. So, there's just like some good competitions. >> Thank you guys. >> All right. Good evening, President Burton, Board of Education, Dr. Martin Knox. This evening we are recognizing uh one of our students Leia Iatala from Raytown High and we are recognizing her for her outstanding achievement, determination and leadership as a senior wrestler at Raytown High. By reach by reaching her 100th career win, she has demonstrated exceptional perseverance, discipline, and dedication to her sport. This remarkable milestone is not only a personal accomplishment, but also a powerful step forward for female wrestling in our community. Her hard work and resilience reflect the values of RQS and serve as an inspiration to students, teammates,
and future athletes. Here is a little more about Leia. To receive the reward of the Raytown Ray of Hope. To me, it means being a leader. It means to represent the Rayton girls wrestling team. It also means to represent Raytown High School. >> Louisa has been breaking barriers the entire time that she's been here. We started a few years ago with our first female district champ and then we got our first female state qualifier. >> A medalist and then Leia is the first female in school history to >> she reached a career milestone of 100 wins which is crazy. >> Getting the milestone is always a huge thing. Being the first to do it is awesome too. >> 100 wins takes a lot of dedication and commitment and being able to get over that hump
and continue going. And then last year getting to watch her compete at state was awesome. >> Earning my 100th win felt amazing. I was really happy. I was really overjoyed hearing my family, my coaches, my teammates cheering for me. That was great. I loved it. >> First off, girls wrestling is crazy. It's awesome. It's one of the like fastest growing sports, you know, in the nation right now. >> Coach Hedrick's done a great job to get more girls interested. Last year, we were able to add a whole another coach just for our girls program. It's been exciting to see the program grow, more girls get interested and find more opportunities to stay connected in the winter. >> My freshman year, I didn't win that much. I only won like nine times. It was really rough
my freshman year, but then I rolled into my sophomore year and I started winning. I started earning first place in tournaments. I feel like ever since then, I've just been going up. >> I just appreciate her effort and trust. I feel very blessed to be her coach. >> It's so cool to get this group of kids and she's a leader of young women and the boys look up to her as well. She bought in, persevered, and really built something from nothing. >> It was really good for me to be able to have a team that I can rely on, especially when I was a freshman, looking up to the seniors, like sophomore looking up to the seniors again. I just felt like I always had a leader until finally I was able to become that
leader. So, it just feels good like that transition. My teammates have definitely built a positive place for me to learn, to fail, to grow. I'm thankful for the environment that my coaches and my teammates have set up for me. >> She's one of those kids that you want a thousand of in your program. You know, she does the right thing, shows up to school, has good grades, took advantage of the Hearnden Career Center, you know, is going to Summit Tech to be a nurse. >> Super bright, positive energy in the school, and we're happy that she's a part of our team and represent the Blue Jays well. >> Has a big heart, you know, wants to help people. She's just been a great ambassador for our sport, man. We'll miss her when she's gone for
sure. My mom has inspired me through and through. I mean, she's such a strong lady. So, I'm really thankful for her. She's been my role model since day one. I went from being a freshman that wasn't good at wrestling to qualifying for state my junior year. So, I say just keep doing the hard things. My mama says that you can do hard things. We can all do hard things. So, I just I live by that. I think you're I don't know where Yes. Next up. I'mma pull a nod Newton right now. I used to tutor her in the eighth grade. >> Mom and John Next on the agenda is public comment period. We have nobody signed up >> more committee reports. Um, Mr. President, would the board approve the January 12, 2026 Curriculum and Professional
Learning Committee minutes? >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Any question, comment from the committee of Jordan? Okay. All right. Uh committee reports. Uh we'll move to the next item or take a vote. Move. starting unfinished business. Motion made second. >> Think there's any question there. Next on the agenda is summer school. There a motion. >> Mr. President, move that board station district summer school for grades prek through 12 at the dates and locations listed. >> Motion made and seconded. Any discussion? >> Only question I had, Mr. >> President. Um, only question I had was Do we think during um in between both of the World Cup games um do we think there's going to be any any other disruptions um during summer school for like traffic wise bus routes? Anything like that CG
CG CG >> Good evening. evening. >> I'm not sure, >> but certainly as we get closer to those events, >> we'll have a better sense of what other happenings around Raytown related to the World Cup that we would work around. So, of course, continuing to work very closely with the city of Raytown, the mayor's office, uh any of the state government, local agencies that are helping put together a awesome World Cup experience for Kansas City. But if we do have interruptions that we can plan for, we'll certainly do our best to work around them. >> And then have from the city, have we gotten any about what June is going to look like for the World Cup? Have we gotten anything? >> So, Miss Clever Wombo and I have tag team and participated in meetings
um so that we can stay informed uh as we're moving forward. Uh but there's not been any changes or any adjustments to the schedule, the timeline and the work that's taking place. They're also working with um the organizations uh to get the information so that we can plan accordingly. And understand this is also bigger than Raytown. It's still Kansas City. So there are a lot of entities that are working collectively to make sure um this is a worldclass event uh when it takes place. >> All right, >> Marissa, is there anything you want to add? >> Thank you, Mr. Gr. Motion passes. Next we have uh Desi local food for schools grant. >> Mr. President, I'm going at the board of education accept the local food for schools additional grant funding in the amount of
$25,000 on behalf of the Redtown school district. >> Second. >> Easy second. Motion made and seconded. Discussion. Yes. Vote. Motion passes. You know how much strawberry milk you can get with $25,000? >> It's going to be epic. Yeah. >> Strawberry. >> Can we not have a conversation about that type of milk? >> Sorry, >> Marissa. Would you let them know why? >> They ask for it everywhere we go. >> That's right. It's the best milk. Do we not deliver? I mean, let's go. >> Look at them. And y'all eat moon pies. >> And paydays. Y'all don't say nothing about >> stuff you shouldn't be eating or drinking. >> Moon pies. >> Mr. President, I move the board accept the CW G bid to purchase 750 uh Lenovo laptops at the price of 82 >> 20,000
$500 >> is this second. This is a Matt Berendon thing right here. >> That's a matte price tag. I I was very confused on the actual uh thing because I was like I thought it was 100 >> is it >> really disgusting. >> Sorry. >> But you can go with the deal. >> Yeah. I thought it was like $2 million laptops. I like what kind of laptops are we getting? >> They touchreen. >> Yeah. >> Are they touchreen? >> Nice. >> Did we ask where where the funding is coming from? you just wanted to ask a question. >> Um, Mr. President, board, good evening. >> Um, yeah, it is a touchscreen device. It's going to look a lot like the last device we used. Um, that was on purpose. Our teachers really appreciated the ability
to convert it to kind of a tablet >> and then use like a stylus and write on it. >> Um, and so we we we tried to make sure we got that feature when we purchased the new one. >> Mr. President, do what do we do with our with our previous uh >> Yeah. So, um after four years of use, they're not in great shape. So, the ones that were are still in pretty good shape will probably be used as like substitute laptops and things like that. And then if it's kind of like on its last leg or beyond repair, then we'll take it to a salvager that will uh recycle the good stuff out of it and uh dispose properly of the rest of it. >> Thank you. >> Awesome. Any other questions? Oh,
where the funding >> where the funding come from? >> Yeah. So, we use um our operating money to to support our uh technology rotations, both our student and staff. So, that would be district operational money that supports that. >> No, you got it. We check you know different level. No, >> Mr. President, the board of education approve the request for to secure bids for >> press. >> I move the board of education approve the purchase of the press and slip machines for $125,000 through revelation machinery LLC. >> Second motion made and seconded. How many >> any discussion? >> See none. >> How many machines are these? Are there I should say >> or this just one big machine? Sorry. Yeah. >> Just two. Golly. >> Good evening. >> Hi. Um to answer the question, there
is one um slip brake and one or sorry, pardon me, one slip roll machine and one press break machine. They're larger pieces of equipment that bend metal. >> One um at angle and one does more of a cylinder like a pipe. Um and so we will use those to um be able to cut some of our own metal and mold the metal so that students can learn different types of welds. Is this our first machine that we'll have in the in the district? >> Um the first of these two types of machines? Yes. And so um they will be used to help our students earn more certifications. >> Nice. Awesome. Thank you. >> That'll be it. Move that the board of education approve the request to procure bids for new >> second. Is there a
second discussion? >> Uh Mr. Mr. President, do you have a quick question on do have a quick question on just how many buses are we trying to procure? Um I know you're you're shooting for bids, but just an estimate of how much, you know, this is going to cost um and what are we going to do with the the buses that we're trying to replace? >> Sure. So, we have a lot Good Good evening everyone, uh board president, rest of the members of the board. Um we're looking at purchasing up to five um new buses, then four used. We have there's been um we've leased buses for a long time. Our our last lease ends in 2028. Uh so what we've been doing is taking those 10 buses that come off lease, going through looking
at those to to keep the five best ones as far as based off mileage, uh based off wear and tear, uh based off work orders that the mechanics have kept track of through the process. Uh that way it keeps our bus range. A bus can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Uh we like to try and keep them 10 years or under. Uh when you start maxing out that 10-year mark, you start uh experience a lot of downtime, expensive repairs, uh just like a personal vehicle. Uh so our long-term capital plan has us doing this process. We've done this process for the last four or five years and we're projected out to uh buy four to five new and then take the the four to five uh best used ones coming off lease and
purchasing those through 30 2030. >> Okay, >> Mr. Go ahead, >> Mr. President. Um have we ever the buses that go kind of out of service, have we ever donated one to like Hernand to like make a house or something? >> We have not. Uh what we've typically done with those is auction them off on purple wave uh and then take that money and to help offset the the buses. >> Okay, that'd be a cool project. Dr. Ricker, please. >> No, I'll buy it. >> I'll let you know when they go on purple wave. Yeah. >> All right. Any further questions? >> Seeing none. be looking cool. >> That'd be 40. >> Motion passes. present. I move that the board approve the February 9th, 2026 consent agenda as presented. >> Second. >> Motion made second.
