I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> I would like to welcome you all to our regularly scheduled board meeting of the Laurel Public Schools. Thank you for coming out tonight. [clears throat] Public participation is encouraged in the Laurel School District. All meetings of the board will be open to the public except as provided by law. Scheduled meetings of the board may be recorded. Audience members may address the board during public comment for non-agenda items or during [clears throat] the discussion of the relevant printed agenda item. Your attendance is welcomed. If you plan to speak to the board, excuse me, [clears throat] please look over the information on the agenda, then
complete the public comment section on the back of the cards in the back of the room, and hand them to Superintendent Torx or myself. Public participation is a right that carries certain responsibilities such as informing oneself in advance of the issues being discussed, voluntarily being as brief and germane as possible, not unduly repeating remarks others or you have already made, and showing respect at all times for the rights and opinions of others, whether citizens, board members, school district employees, or students. Do I have any public comment for anything that is not on the agenda tonight? Hearing none, we'll move on then to the next section, number three, correspondence. Again, thanks to the community for their continued generous support of our school district through donations. It really does make a huge, huge difference and impact for
the students. So, thank you very much. Moving next then to the consent agenda, do I have a motion? >> I'll move to approve the consent agenda with [clears throat] an amendment to the minutes from the April 13th meeting. To include the motion and vote from action item G, certified non-renewal list. >> A motion by Donny to approve with an amendment to April 13th's regular meeting, amendment to section G, or excuse me, item G, to include the vote. Do I have a second? >> I'll second. Good catch. >> [clears throat] >> Seconded by Jenny. Any other discussion on the consent agendas? Audience discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to vote on the motion to approve our consent agenda by Donny, seconded by Jenny. All in favor, say aye. >> Aye. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Moving next
to action items. Action item A, Laurel students attending Canyon Creek. Do I have a motion? >> I move to ratify the approval of the Laurel students to attend Canyon Creek, those listed in the recommendation. >> A motion to approve the action item A, the students attending Canyon Creek as constituted by Jenny. Is there a second? >> Seconded by Kayla. Any board discussion? Yes, Donny. >> I just wanted to confirm that these students are for fiscal year 26. Is this year's >> Good. Yeah. >> Cuz the recommendation includes the verbage continue to attend and I just want to make sure that doesn't mean it's going to carry over the next >> No, I can bring it back. >> Yeah, we have to do it every [clears throat] year. >> So um motion any other discussion? Thank
you, Bonnie. Audience discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to vote on the motion by Jenny to approve action item A, Laurel students attending Canyon Creek School District. Seconded by Kayla. All in favor, say I. I. Any opposed? Motion carries. Action item B, 2026 Summer Jumpstart staffing recommendation. Do I have a motion? >> Can I >> Yes, go ahead. >> First of all, the motion. I believe that our secretary that was Friday after this had already went out, she has informed us that she cannot take this position. So, the recommendation would just be for the four listed teachers and not we're we're looking for a different secretary or somebody to help out there. >> So, she's already off of here. >> Oh, she's on the staffing 2026 part. We just but the motion would just be for
just not as presented but yeah, the the four teachers and [clears throat] not the secretary. >> Makes sense. Any questions on that, board? Okay. >> I move to approve the hiring of the four teachers listed listed on the recommendation and not the secretary as she's unavailable. >> We have a motion to approve the amended recommendation by Jenny. Is there a second? >> Seconded by Donnie. Any other discussion? Audience discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to vote on the motion to approve action item B, the Summer Jumpstart staffing with the exception of the secretary by Jenny, seconded by Donnie. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Action item C, early entry kindergarten nomination. Do I have a motion? >> I'll move to approve the request for an early entry to the kindergarten
program recommended. >> There's a motion to approve the early record Excuse [clears throat] me. Whoa. Early entry as recommended by Donnie. Is there a second? >> Seconded by Kayla. Any other board discussion on that item? Audience discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to vote on the motion by Donnie to approve action item C, the early entry of a kindergarten student. Seconded by Kayla. All in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Motion carries. Action item D, middle school boiler bids. Do I have a motion? Do we want to discuss this? >> Yeah, Matt, can you just give us the rundown real fast and >> So, we have as you guys approved the the boiler bids to go out. We have the bids coming in now and Wayne can attest to this, but we originally talked about replacing
with four boilers over there. One's non-functional, replacing two of them. Well, it turns out that we can replace the boilers with similar boilers that we already have in the other buildings. So, everything kind of just coincides and works together and they're not already outdated like the other ones were. Uh and two of them will replace all of the boilers and we'll leave one old boiler in there just as a backup. We won't need it. So, this would have concluded the boilers and then also some extras in there that are attached into the system and all that. Um we have a third-party that we work with throughout the boiler throughout the bond projects to review a lot of someone we trust, Jeff Gozinga, to that we trust him to come in and evaluate the mechanical systems
and he will look over all these bids as well and he said the the low bid in this case was the best bid. And that's why he I have a letter in there. That's why he's recommending that. I also included all the bid documents in there and on the front page of the bid documents under number two is kind of a synopsis way he put together of all the bids. Uh and this would be the Plumb Montana Incorporated at 363,000 and that would be to replace uh and update our middle school boilers and keep one of the old boilers in there as a backup in case something was to happen we could still circulate warm water, keep the building from freezing, but that's where we're at with that. >> So, a question for you, Matt.
Um and I think you maybe mentioned it, but I might have missed it, that these are the same boilers as in the other >> Exactly. These are the same boilers. So, now we're we're not dealing with any older type of boiler. These are the same boilers that we had put in the new building. >> And is Plumb Montana the contract holder? What did they win the contract on the remodel and the the new building? >> I don't think so. No, it wasn't them. >> So, a different Did that contractor bid on here? >> It's a different contractor than the new building. >> This is one that we've not used before. But but cuz I remember Yeah, this this gentleman that we had the third party guy. He's familiar with this. Jeffrey is familiar with this
company. >> Yes, he is. That's why he gave you the recommendation. >> Okay. They actually all look fairly colluded. I mean there's not a huge spread except for the There's one giant outlier. It looked like to me. >> He didn't want to do it anyway. >> Yeah, >> [clears throat] >> that looked like a don't make me do this bid to me. So, yeah, I agree. >> Good. >> And I'm going to ask a >> Donny, yes. >> Oh. >> These are brand brand new boilers with warranties? >> Brand brand new. >> Okay. And >> Double brand. >> What are the What do [clears throat] we think that life span of this could be? >> You know, Wayne maybe can attest to that. I mean they should be better than the ones we have. Uh
>> [clears throat] >> If we're If we take care of them, we maintain them properly, well, how many years are we going to get out of these Lochinvars? >> Should get 20 years. >> Minimum. >> Yep. >> So, we got 20 out of the old ones and they were kind of junk. >> They were. They were. >> So, you're saying at least 20. >> The old ones were cast iron boilers. The cast on those are starting to crack. That's what failed on the first one. These are all steel. You can weld them with the outer issue. These are good boilers. I mean they don't even look like the the boiler you're used to seeing the big large things. These look like almost a suitcase and they're so efficient that they don't run stack steel stacks
up. They run PVC pipe. >> Really? >> Yeah, they're that efficient. >> Right. Hm. >> And Lochinvar is one of the best ones on the market and that was what was specified to match what we already have in service. Uh parts and stuff can be semi-interchangeable, control stuff. All the difference is is size and the size of the boiler itself. >> Yeah. That's awesome. And they'll fit easy so they'll easily fit in the footprint of that back. >> Where the boilers are now. >> Quick question. >> Yeah, you bet. >> [clears throat] >> So you probably just take the best one and >> We'll take the best one and keep it and then we will take the other two that are coming out and we will take parts off of those and we've got something
for the other one. >> Just scavenge them all off, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Great. I love it. Donny, yes? >> Of course we have to have to ask question, where is the money coming from? >> Well, right now though we've talked about a number of options, [clears throat] we uh, it'll be elementary building reserve. Uh, is that accurate? >> Yeah. >> And we did talk briefly about uh, very briefly about um, intercap loan. >> Mhm. >> Which is an option for those of you that that uh, you want to explain that or you want to either one of you guys explain that? >> Yeah, so I'm not super familiar with them but it's a loan you can take out um, and we can calculate it on the Montana website for like a percentage and make
payments over like 5, 7 years, whatever we want to do. So you don't have to use up all the building reserve funds to cover boilers, so. >> I'm not sure it's a giant advantage in this case. If we were getting the building reserve money every year, we're currently levying that money, then it maybe makes a little more sense. >> Mhm. >> But I'm not sure what we gain out of carrying it over other than we would have more money in our building reserve, but but we'd be paying out over time. Not we could if we knew we were going to pass any building reserve, it might make some sense. But I'm not sure in this case it doesn't make sense just to not add to the cost by giving us >> Does Intercap have a
interest rate? >> Well, it's pretty low. Yeah. It used to be like like 1 or 2%. It was 1.5. >> So, it's not even like treasury index. It's just like arbitrary rate. >> Mhm. >> It's pretty low. And it's meant for schools or other things like that. >> So, what is the thought? But, uh what do we currently have in the elementary buildings or is it >> Um >> What was that figure? I think I wrote it >> Sorry, I don't have that on top of my head. >> I want to say 6 700,000. >> I think you're close to that. >> I'm not sure the Intercap loan makes any sense in this situation. >> Uh yeah. >> But, like you said >> And you're saying there's a And I'm just saying trying to think
ahead of like is there a size limitation? You said is it like based on the district's taxable value? Or how >> [snorts] >> How do they come up with this? So, could we like if the roof on the high school like just completely we needed to do it? >> We need 2 and 1/2 million dollars. >> Could we do a 2 and 1/2 million dollar Intercap? >> That I couldn't confirm. I'm not sure. >> They do have a limit. >> Size-wise? >> I would say a couple of million, but I don't know what it is. Yeah. >> Yeah. Mhm. Hopefully, we can just Well, we'll talk about that later, but the bond, you know, that would have been certain >> Well, sure sure sure. So, but that's really what those loans are for is when
you run into situations where >> [clears throat] >> if we had no money, then we would have to look at the Intercap loan and then you pay it back using >> general fund for example, it becomes a line item in the general fund. Yes. Yeah, but it becomes a line item in the general fund as an example and and uh you put it in your budget. Just that we're pretty tight on that right now. That's a That's a tough call to do that. >> Yeah. Is project going to be done by the fall then? Is that your thinking? >> Uh Yes, it will be very easily. Awesome. Anything else, board? Great. We would take a motion on this action item. >> I move to accept the bid from Columbia Montana with alternate one for a
total contract amount of $363,900. >> So, a motion by Jenny to approve the boiler bid as recommended by our third-party consultant. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Seconded by Donny. Any other board discussion on that? Audience discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to vote on the motion by Jenny to approve action item D, the bid for uh boilers at the middle school, seconded by Donny. All in favor, say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. >> [clears throat] >> Still three more action items. Thank you, board. We'll move then next to our information items. If you'd like me to stop on any of these, please uh stop and we can discuss. Books for approval, LIS. LHS. Department reports, activities. Facilities. Food services. Transportation. Financial reports, cash report. >> I have a question. >>
Yes. >> So, I noticed that we have several funds that are sitting at negative balances, and that's really not that worrisome because the tax collections coming in May. Other than the food service fund, do we have thoughts? Ideas? How we're going to resolve that one? >> I'm going to go through like how many payrolls are going to be left and kind of do some calculations and see like where our conferences are on track. Um >> [clears throat] >> the food service one, I'm not sure yet. I'm not winning either. >> Yeah. >> I look [clears throat] forward to hearing you. >> Or not look forward. >> I do not look forward. I do not look forward. >> You think it comes with a wonderful >> I mean that can't [clears throat] be negative at lunch
counts. What is that? Knowing the pandemic >> People don't know what they're used to cover. Some schools use general fund to cover lunch cost, others just There Do you want to I would like to always shoot to have it kind of cover itself. >> That's that's your goal. >> Right. >> It's not always the case. >> Is that something that we're going to consider then next year when we if when we rebalance the current step cost? >> Yes. Yep. >> And OPI already sent an email saying we have to raise our prices, which we have to anyway to cover the new vendor, so. >> Well, we lost I mean it's hard because this is our first year without subsidy, right? That we had that subsidy that >> We we did but that was causing us
more problems. >> Right, but I know that that subsidy going I was just wondering if maybe this is a result of sort of like >> Doesn't help. >> maybe on the underside, guessing for a shooting at. Okay. >> Food's only going up. It it will be going up considerably next year, I think. >> And be a nice community after That's one of those things, you know, like you see those things happening with the paying lunch deficits. This is a pretty big lunch guy deficit. >> Even though it's not exactly like a bunch of kids not paying, it's just from a budgetary perspective, he's coming up short this year. >> My understanding is it was carried over kind of from last year's doing that program, from my understanding. >> Yeah. Mhm. Cuz we didn't jump it
that much, even though that subsidy went away. I don't I don't I I I think I even remember Julie saying earlier in the school year, before, like last summer, maybe, or whatever, when we talked about dropping that, that it it would probably create something like this, if I remember right. This That's been 10 months ago, probably. >> Yeah, I Yeah, actually, I don't think I had that conversation, exactly. >> Yeah. So. Anything else on that item? Audience, anything? I'll move on to the revenue report. Expenditure report. Middle school activities. High school activities. Bond expense report. We added this new Felt Martin report, just so the board would have an awareness, based on our sensitivity to spending in this area. Any questions on that? Principal's report, elementary. Intermediate. Middle school. High school. >> Yeah. >> Yes.
>> I do have a comment. I would like to thank the middle school and the high school for addressing MTSS in your schools. It's really hard for us as a board to really know what that program's all about and how we're doing at it. So, having you explaining those things out was very helpful to us and thank you for your time. >> Yes. Yeah, I was going to say a similar thing. So, thank you. Committee meetings. >> [clears throat] >> April 2nd, 2026, leadership and learning. April 7th, 2026. That should say 26. We're not in the future yet. >> Not yet. >> District operations. April 7th, 2026, insurance. April 8th, labor management. April 14th, 2026, district operations. April 16th, 2026, leadership and learning. April 16th, 2026, insurance. April 23rd, 2026, capital planning. Superintendent's report. Resignation
report. >> Great. Got some uh big shoes to fill with the wrestling coach. I know what it is. I saw that on on Saturday. >> Wasn't that a good setup, wasn't it? >> What's that? >> I thought it was in the Gazette, wasn't it? >> Yeah, I know. That's a big It's a big thing for us. Um Appreciate all of the reports and everything that goes into that. Finance, thank you for putting that together. Thank you for the uh building administration for putting those together. It's so helpful. We really appreciate all the effort that goes into those. We'll move next then to uh item seven, our discussion items. Uh we just wanted to update you um first of all on the auctioning of the admin building. >> So, I did uh fill out the application
for the Crexi auction. I met with uh our representatives from Coldwell Banker Commercial. We went through and redid a new disclosure uh agreement [clears throat] for the old admin building. We went through and uh line by line and filled in all that new disclosure stuff. Um And that has been sent off to Crexi. What they do is is there's a I guess there's a process, so we're probably looking at a uh probably a late summer, I think they be a few months before it goes to auction. They market it for like 45 days, and then there's a there's a process. So, the one big thing that come out of there is if the board uh wants to look at you guys set a reserve, of course. But down the road if the board uh we
want it on the day of the two-day auction, on the second day, they recommend that we do some sort of uh at least prepare for a board meeting uh a few hours before the auction closes. If If If at the very least then the board can make a decision there. If what if it's not within that $50,000 range you guys gave me, then the board has a chance to say, "All right, we're okay with that." or "No, we're not okay with the bid." Uh so, we we talked about that and what what are those options. The other option is is that after the bid if it doesn't meet reserve within a reasonable amount of time like a week, the board can have a meeting and then they can talk about go ahead and say all
right, the highest bid was $100,000 and we're going to go ahead and you know, we're going to say that's okay. The board might say that's fine. Let's let's offer that. And then he said there's no guarantees we can go back to that potential buyer. They that puts a lot of the power in the buyer's hands. And and they can say, "Well, yeah, I I offered it but now I'll only offer $75,000." So, they really recommended that we have a board meeting the day of before the auction ends couple hours type thing. Uh he said sometimes just just just because you you never quite know. But there could be a lot of bidding going on in the last 20 minutes. So, uh So, where where all the paperwork's in uh again, I mean it costs us
a bunch of money or anything. The cost of the purchase and all of that all sits on the buyer. So, now we The only thing we would owe would be if the normal amount we would owe for our realtor. So, if we made you know, whatever money we would owe them it's just like we sold the house. So, I think it's right now moving forward. >> And I would if the property building is still actively marketed, it's not like pulled because of Crexi or this Crexi engagement. So, if somebody came in tomorrow and had like a no contingency full price offer, like we could take that. That's not that doesn't stop us. >> We may owe Crexi a a fee because that that may be the issue. Uh if someone did come in tomorrow and
say, "I don't want to go through Crexi but I'll make you this offer." We might end up owing Crexi a a certain amount of money for their processing. >> It would be lower than paying. >> Oh, yeah, sure. It's certainly lower than >> And bird in the hand versus all of them go through the auction. >> So, it's still being marketed now. So, the call that hasn't stopped those efforts. But, >> What day of the week do they usually auction? >> You asked a question I never asked. >> Well, here's the thing that I This is what >> It's a Sunday, which is >> I know, right? I don't think it was. >> Something that I used to >> This is what I thought when we kind of talked about this is that and then
this board doesn't have to decide or we can leave it to the next board. Um giving the administration a little more latitude in the sale of the building so such that timing doesn't hinder the transaction. Cuz if we go back a week later after having noticed meeting and have to go through all of the steps just to say, "Oh, yeah, you can go. It can be, you know, $100,000 instead of 50." Then that buyer may have already moved on and by then I know like the moment's gone. Like I'm not interested now. So, that's that's the risk we run by doing that. And then otherwise, we're going to play this like balancing game of trying to coordinate a board meeting live basically with the to coordinate with the end of the auction so that we
can cumulatively make that decision together. Um which means that we would all have to we'd have to have a a quorum of trustees available at the end of the auction to make that decision. >> And when do they normally end? Like >> Well, business hours. >> Yeah, yeah, 5. >> But, just if, you know, >> But, I think >> Not midnight. >> I think it was all on the East Coast. >> Oh. >> So, I think it would be let's say it's 5 o'clock 3 o'clock [clears throat] our time, so >> Yeah. >> Maybe we would do it you know, You know, 1 o'clock or something. >> Or at or at 3:00 because >> Or we wanted to have, we wanted to be able to make the decision as the >> But that just makes
it harder to >> It does. >> Or it does. So, that's that's kind of the risk we run. So, we can just something that this board should think about and then we'll pop, maybe pause it to the next board and see >> Yeah, I think we should wait and get more left here. >> Once we move >> Wait for the new board so they can have an input and then we can also hopefully have more information on like days of the week, times of day. >> Yeah, but surely we'll have more of a set set of the times that >> Once they start scheduling the auction, we can determine like, what if it's it ends in August and like everybody is out that day or something like we can make those decisions but >> [clears
throat] >> Just something for us to think about that maybe there's a better way of doing that than trying to coordinate a trustee meeting just to >> Perfect. >> So, anything else on that? >> Any other questions here? >> Audience questions on that? Just hope we get rid of that thing. Be nice to have it sold and gone and >> True. >> no more utility costs, no more police calls, whatever, whatever, whatever. So. Next we'd like to just uh acknowledge and mention the election results. Um obviously uh our bond did not pass. Not even by a little bit. >> Not even by a little bit. >> I'll laugh if I I'll cry if I don't laugh about it. Um [clears throat] >> We're not likely to be the only loser. >> No, we weren't. We
weren't. We certainly were the biggest loser though. >> By the widest margin. >> Uh for the for that bond. So, um your three new board members that coming on. We have Vanessa Lawrence Long, uh Raelyn Meissner, and Noel Hawk. All have uh received the three highest votes, so they'll be uh placed on the board in on the May 26th meeting, which is reminders Tuesday because of Memorial Day is the 25th, so please put that in your brains. It's a Tuesday meeting. >> Can you spell those names? >> Yes. Noel, N O W E L L. Hawk, H A W K. And then Raelyn Meissner, R A E L Y N N. Meissner is M E I S N E R. And then Vanessa Lawrence Long. Lawrence Long is hyphenated. >> Oh. You spoke with them
individually? >> Yes. I I uh met two of them today for a little over an hour where we just talked about some board etiquette things, uh how we communicate, I took them through a mock board agenda, what's a consent agenda, what's the you know, what's informational, how to act uh when we have hearing of the public, that we as a board I should say I can respond, but the board doesn't respond and then we have a discussion. We talked about the difference between a public meeting and a meeting held in public. We're a meeting held in public, we're not a public meeting. Um and then we talked about uh some communication processes. So, if I send out an email or a text, for example, that says, "Hey, we had a lockdown today. Just letting you
guys know that." They're not You guys aren't responding to me with information saying, "Hey, what's going on?" That's something we're having a board discussion. So, we talked about not doing that. And if they had any questions, they could call me directly. But realistically, uh uh the best thing to do is just information. When I send something out, it's information I feel is important that you need to know sooner rather than later. So, we just talked a lot about that. Uh about board etiquette. You know, I I talked I thought I thought I thought it was very important to tell them that even if we vote on something in here, the board votes, you know, say five to two or six to one, it's very important that we you leave the board meeting as a group
and that we're going to go ahead and move forward. You know, we vote to pass to take a bond to the public or levy. The votes six to one, the one shouldn't go out there and then bad mouth the entire thing. If the board moves forward on something, I said it's very important that you you all move forward as a group. Um we talked about communication. Uh about say if you walk into a a room to talk to a teacher or principal, you have to understand you're just a parent right there and you're not a board member. You can come in and say, "I want this change because I'm a board member." That's not how boards work. I said unless the board's giving you a specific task and voted and said, "We want you to
do this." Go out and do it. I said then you're just a parent when you come in here and talk to me or you can come in and talk to me or the the principal or whatever. So, we just we just tried to cover what we could in the time we had. And we I said really the goal was is just to keep them from crashing learning on some real basic stuff until we could get a little more formal training up there. That was my goal. And then I I got them two today and then one on Friday. >> I appreciate you doing that cuz I don't think I got that one-on-one. We had the formal board training from MTSBA, but so that's kind of nice. Just just like what is a consent agenda? So,
that >> We were kind of in a for I mean, we we were in a weird transition too because >> New super. >> And and the other one was wasn't even done yet. So we cut Yeah, I know. This guy was just going to speed on her and so I guess that I won't I'll only blame you a little bit. >> Blame me a little. >> So. No, I really like that, too. And then we were thinking about organizing something in August, like you said, potentially to try to get some >> [clears throat] >> Have Have we had it before where Phil Martin would >> I enjoyed the Phil Martin one. >> Yeah, that was good. >> That was a good dream. No, I was broken in at my house. >> Oh, that's right. Yeah.
>> Oh, yeah, that's right. >> Um yeah, that's right. >> Oh, then you're going to refresh your memory. >> Yeah, that's a good analogy. >> [laughter] >> I expressed I expressed to them a number of times that you're going to you're going to feel a little lost. You're going to feel like there's a you know, everyone's speaking Latin. And I said, "But ask questions. Don't be afraid to to ask for clarification. Um you know, if it's after the board meetings don't ask me a question on why something happened the way it did. Yeah. Just ask. I said, "You You just You have to learn it and you You got to take your time and that's okay." >> Best thing to do is dig deep. Just drink it all in. You try to you know, that's
what That's the best way to try to to get into it. At least that's my advice to them would be to really really like be open and absorb >> I I I always stress the need to be prepared for meetings. Yeah. So you come in when you open it up right there looking on on your computer, that's not the first time you've seen it. >> Yes. >> Uh or hey, everyone we don't get a vote until I read the handbook. You know, that's That's That should be done That has to be done over the weekend. It takes a little bit of time. Some meetings like tonight there's probably not a lot to read going in. >> Right. >> But when we have handbooks I said for example at the next meeting, you'll need to have
looked at those and uh at least have a general idea. We talked about committee meetings as well, that they'll be serving on a committee and we talked briefly about what those look like. And they're held during the day, they're you know, they're Teams meetings. Lot of stuff. I jammed a lot of them. >> Good. Good. Anything else on that? Anything from the audience on that? Thank you. Uh the last or the next thing we'll talk about, we kind of already talked about a little bit, is that the reorganization meeting will be next week. Next week. Next meeting. Well, it'll be two board meetings. We'll close out this board and then open it in with a new board um to act. So, that'll include a swearing in uh Crystal again >> [laughter] >> for uh for
the uh her position. So, we'll take nominations from the floor for chair and vice chair at that meeting. So, thinking about that also. Anything else on that, Matt? >> Nothing on that. >> And then >> [clears throat] >> uh we just have a little update on 4th of July. >> Yeah, uh got an email today from uh it's not the fire department, but those members of firemen who are putting it on. Uh everything looks pretty good. It looks like we're uh there were a few bumps last week, but everything as of right now looks pretty good uh for having it uh at Thompson Park. And uh we may end up have having to not having to, we may end up opening the bleachers to accommodate uh some lost uh um you know, areas where people
could just kind of hang out and and watch. You know, like I I I I stressed to them that one of the things that when we open the bleachers is obviously taking and picking up after ourselves. can't have alcohol in the bleachers and and things like that. We need to be very careful. So, they said they would help man that and we'll help man it. Uh just to try to make sure it goes off without a hitch, but we all feel pretty good about it. Fencing will have to move a little and there'll be some places where people are used to sitting who won't be able to, but uh mostly in Thompson Park. But, uh we probably will end up opening up the bleachers on the football field to account for some of the lost
areas. But, it looked all looked pretty good. Everyone seemed pretty positive today. >> Good. Hopefully, they'll get that out in a solid >> They thought they'd get it out today or tomorrow. >> Yeah, they were pretty >> There was still a lot of questions about it, yeah. >> Yeah, I mean, it's just trying. We have to wait for the city to go through their processes and approve it cuz they have to finally approve just the thing, but there's a plan that means we potentially could shut down 6th Avenue as well. Or at least part of it. We think we might be able to not to though. We think we can figure out how to do it without shutting down 6th Avenue. Or 6th Street, excuse me, 6th Street. Um you know, I think it'll work.
I think they have a really good plan set up. They were did a great job of going to the city with it. They just have to show the city this is why we think this will work. >> Yeah. >> It'll be good. >> It's a little more involved this time just because it's going on more on the city property. The actual >> Right, right. So, there's there's always that worry. >> Yep. So, good. I'm glad we were able to resolve that. That's been a lot of background work on Matt's part and on Wayne's part and Devon >> Devon helped. >> Devon was hugely helpful, I think, in doing some aerial map surveys. >> Yeah, aerial map surveys to help me do what >> what we were doing. That was That was kind of almost like
the breakthrough, I think, cuz we've been we've been talking with them probably since like last August. Well, actually it's probably last >> February. >> Well, yeah. >> It's probably been a good 15 16 months we've been talking about this. >> Since I've been involved in those talks it's been since since right after the fourth, so. Yeah, it's been a long time. So, I'm glad we're able to collaborate and make it work and make this event go off, so. >> Yeah. Any future discussion items? >> Well, maybe you should ask >> Any other thoughts or discussion on the Independence Day item? Going to be good. >> Yep. Should be fun. >> Yeah. Any future discussion items that have come to mind? Donna, yes? >> Can I request an update on the food service manager contract? >>
Absolutely. >> I specifically meant moving forward. >> It is. I think it's an OPI issue. That's the way >> Yeah. It's all uploaded right now and we're just waiting for state approval on the uploads. >> And >> Are you involved in the part of the contract that speaks to how injuries are handled? >> That was all in the RFP. As far as like uh >> But that's first year. Is this a one-year contract? >> We'll talk about it. >> Yeah. Yeah. That's one for the discussion. >> That's right. >> Yep. We'll add it as a discussion and then I wanted to add to graduation. >> Graduation, how do you say it? >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Yep. Graduation will be the 31st. Uh so, we'll we'll we'll uh put that on the agenda. >> Yeah,
and it's to give the new board members also an opportunity to know that they can attend and so, we'll talk about it next next week or next time. So. Great. Anything else? Anything comes to mind, please just bring that to my attention and to Matt's attention and we'll make sure we get it on the next meeting. So, All right. Well, thank you everyone. Meeting [clears throat] adjourned. >> two meetings
