This meeting is being recorded. Recording does not constitute the official record of this meeting. All documents from this meeting are available on the school board page on the district website. Call the meeting to order. We stand for the pledge of >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the stands one nation indivisibley all later just the one we have >> just the one t >> we just That's one of the item 51. Um, any public comments? See here? No. I'll take an approval for the minutes, please. >> I going to approve the minutes. I second motion. >> Discussion. All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? That's unanimously. Right into the superintendent, please. >> Yes. So, really pretty straightforward. I put the official down for February in everything's in
there. That's going to be how we're going to be funding next year. Um, so we're still able to take advantage of three-year averaging. So, we'll get into that a little bit more with the budget committee, but you know about where we figured we were. >> Yeah. >> No monumental changes unfortunately. No, I'm we're starting to pick up the animal kids to be honest. Um, >> yeah. >> Any questions? >> Well, we're overall six >> from fall. >> Fall. >> Yeah. >> And usually we are going to go up with skiers. It did seem like we got a ton of those this year. >> Well, I guess >> students that came in are more going to be here for >> that's what it seems like. They come here for work or something else as opposed to
for Facebook. >> There was a big family last year of four that we didn't pick up that didn't they decided to come back for the winter I think for this week. And then the second piece of my report is more just one fact and one most interesting piece of information. So we received from hospital 408 our anticipated 634,000 from four donors. The cap this year was 7.2 million and that went in 7 minutes and 17 seconds. >> Oh my gosh. >> Public school in the in the state. So I just printed off the stats for you. >> Yeah. Like who got what? >> We got the most. >> Yeah. Um I just printed off all the this is public knowledge. Um you know keep me public. Uh so you can see the word is out.
>> Yeah. >> Um people are getting this and we didn't have we were done in two minutes less than two minutes. >> Wow. >> With ours. But you can see on there that the the good thing that this demonstrates, I think all the information that you're looking at right there from the public schools in Montana, this is good information for the legislature to continue the program and continually increasing it as long as it >> and then also to really look at things because if people are taking this much advantage of a ancillary system to fund their schools that >> probably you know something's up something needs to be fixed. What's the what's the number in this column? >> Numbers they submitted the donations entered. >> So it's it's it's donations entered the the small number
total donations and then then there some of them have a third column. Those were donations that were rejected. Um and then the last column is a total of that there we see like I was surprised Sweet Grass County High School. I'm not even 100% sure where that is. Do you know Mr. Dherty? That's on the way to buildings, right? >> What is it? >> Big Timber. No, sweets. >> What's that? >> Big. >> So, Big Timber High School. >> So, I mean, they got they had 400 4,000, but they only ended up with 202. >> So, there was some interesting ones there. >> Again, that's more just kind of >> interest. Tell me. >> Yep. How does this work? The donations entered are what we got donations. And then what is how is it? I
don't I don't know anything about this. >> So it's a it's a dollar for-doll tax credit. >> Okay. >> So an individual or organizer or an LLC can make $200,000. They can 400 very filing >> right. Okay. >> Um and then there's a cap in the state of 7.2 million. >> Okay. So then we just give them a form. They give us the information that we need. They give us a form and a check at the So they did it this year after January second. >> Okay. >> And then that's a prepayment on taxes from so they have to have a large tax bill and they have to have cash. I've seen >> we're at the very we're on that very >> this is they're doing something like this in Colorado where you can send
a ticket to a child >> something >> there's another there's another tax credit program that runs parallel for scholarship fund it's called but it's for that's for private or nonpublic schools. So they can go the same they have different caps than we have. We have a cap of 15% of our general fund. >> Yeah. If nothing else. Uh and then lastly uh or two more things. Housing on the 27th of January building for the rent permit was approved by the commissioners unanimously. Um we're still tracking for a mid to late August occupancy. Um fire this fire sprinkler design is what we're now >> we're good with >> the neighbors and everything. >> Everything. >> This was the first time that we had something before the commissioners that there were not any neighbors or any public
comment sent in and they were all they were all notified as per law that >> so everybody should be happy. you can be happy. They're at least quiet. >> Take it. >> And then this is also just more something of interest. Just out of the blue, um, some people want to do a a media company wants to produce a snowblower commercial for Honda snowblowers. They're going to compensate us and conduct filming either blur or they're going to hire our actors. They say, "Why us?" >> They're doing it in this region anyway. And they like the looks of the edition. >> They're going to bring their own snow. >> They said they would do something like that. >> If needed, be hilarious. Big sheep blowing snow. >> Um, and that's that's all I have. >> Any
questions? >> Thank you, Dustin. Assume you take over Marlo's. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. So her report she had parent meeting um academics were now in full full swing with semester 2 uh report cards from our new system toddle have been reviewed. Transcripts are all updated. Your reports have been sent to the request universities. Um students in eighth grade participated the American mathematics competition at Montana State in January. Um it was really exciting to see those kids get out and challenge themselves. uh mass working through the second window of mass testing. ACT prep uh begins next week with our juniors and graduations pathways. Janet, Tim, and Marlo are beginning the process for the pathways with the 10th graders. In the student life, uh published the 23rd edition of at the peak. Uh Nita has a
done a great job of putting together the weekly and high school newsletter. Um really proud to be able to show off the work of the staff and students through this through this newsletter. Uh ski days thanks to the PTO the resort for hosting the students. He's created a lot of great memories. Prom is slated for April 25th Mountain Ranch. That's the first time they've hosted it. So that's going to be fun. Um and then the middle school student council and interact club are focusing on kindness this month with different activities and initiatives um from Valentine's Day celebrations to the daily kindness in action. Then on the professional learning front, Deb, our special education teacher in the high school in middle school attend and Barlo attended too an informative training with via on school of law
and then the science of reading. Devin Joy and Marlo completed a training on the science and high school students. still busy. >> Great. Any other questions? Thank you for that. Filling in on to the elementary school, please. >> Thank you. >> It's always like that when we come in. So, it's like I guess this is just what we do in darkness. >> Let's see. Motion. >> Well, we turned turned the motion sensor off because we still parent meetings in here. And if you're just sitting and talking, the lights turn off and then you're constantly. >> Yeah. >> So they're either on or off. You just have to decide. >> Um so we did wrap up semester one. It was um a successful push out from T from our side with total and um digital report
cards. The middle school high school has been online a lot longer with total and parents logging in and seeing the workflow. So there's a little bit of anxiety on our side, but we did it. Um was not relieved. So that's exciting. Um, with that we've completed all middle of the year benchmark testing and that has all been shared out with families so they know where their kids are. Um, and it's not a end all beall test. It's just another thing to share with families. Um, we are um, we wrapped up our final ski days and I have a huge story from one of our students who showed up. Her dad had a lot of anxiety. She had a lot of anxiety. She'd never been on a bus. She'd never skied before, so it was a
really big day. And when I checked in with her at the end of the day, she was like, "Smile from here to the best experience." >> So, yeah. And with that, it's also nice to be back in the building and get into a regular schedule again and just get back to regular programming. Um, we do have nine new students in the elementary and I think seven of those are permanent, which is really exciting. And I've done check-ins with all of them and they're all very happy and excited to be on campus. um and all comment that our lunch is better. Um this Friday is a PIR day and our staff is um attending some math training um all day on Friday and then yeah we attended the law conference in Livingston which is always very
informative because she kind of talks about what's happening in the state the trends that they're seeing and um how do we make sure that taking the steps to best protect ourselves in the district. So that was informative. Okay. Y questions. >> You covering activities as well. >> Uh yeah, I am uh he's coaching. The regular season for high school teams just kind of closing out the regular season. Friday is senior night celebrations versus Whiteall district tournament. Manhattan Christian February 25th to 28th and additional buildings the following week you should be qualified. MS girls um seventh and eighth grade girls are approximately 12 and five with six and 11 in the rural district and six fifth and sixth grade team is also undefeated in the rural district this year. >> Good job coaches. >> Yeah, >>
great. Uh move on to the business manager report, please. >> Okay. Um, as Duffy mentioned, we had our spring count on February 2nd. Um, everybody saw the numbers and um, helps determine our budget going forward and it's looking like initially we're about the same kind of just fluctuation depending on that are still yet to come in for this year. Um, we're up to date with all payroll and liabilities for February. Um, one really good thing is that we're able to pay off our bus bar this February. So, that is really nice. Saves us a little bit on some interest. That is good. Um, and we're moving along with all the elections timeline. The close of candidate registration was February 9th. Um the deadline for any writing candidates is March 2nd. Our resolution needs to be
changed if we're going to do it by February 24th, which going to talk about discussion number two. Um and that's it. Questions back deeper here shortly. Great. Excellent. Thank you. Um, yeah, really I want to report comm and we can we can start that conversation actually right here further on that kind of more just about the ballot language. I put that there's a hand out in the packet table packet the very last few pages front and back. Um, so we met with the budget committee to sell you the map and that um, yeah, and and walk through really kind of a a eagle view of the next two fiscal years following this fiscal year. Um, so I I'll turn it over to the committee members. Matt, you want to kick us off here? Matt, do
>> sure. Um, I appreciate you and Libby and Corky giving us some time. Uh, what we're seeing is that things are trending and I think generally in a positive positive direction in terms of minimizing our expenses and and tightening the belts a little bit. Uh we are still aware that our student numbers are down and and may continue to trend downward as we're kind of still moving through that COVID hangover and people moving away. So I think that'll be the biggest concern as we move forward is that our A and B numbers will continue to decline and if they do when the state recalculates based on our three-year average then our general fund may take a hit. uh kind of anticipating that the administration I think has done a good job figuring out where we
can cut costs and also looking forward to say if we need to continue to invest in our teachers which we do where does that money come from so that we can continue to have good folks working with us and working with our children. So for the next two years we're looking pretty good. Um, we just have to be aware of, you know, what's coming down the road and that where we live is expensive. Um, so you've always heard me say this, we have private school amenities and public school dollars. So, we're still going to continue to look to the residents to help provide the opportunities that our kids have that other schools don't provide or that other kids don't have. Um, so the HP48 dollars that we've talked about earlier in the meeting, we're really
appreciative of the families that are able to help us with that and families that are able to help either financially or by contributing hours and volunteer time. Uh, that releases some of the tension on our overall budget. >> So what is Dustin? You've said that in the past, but we can look at these numbers and see when that drop off begins. We get more money for high schoolers, right? >> And so we have these I is that the same does that start in middle school or high school? >> Seven. >> So So as long it's the seventh eighth grade classes. I mean not particularly the seventh obviously 37 kids. They're so they're five years out from moving through and I don't know I'd have to go but you must have calculated when is that did
you say it was like six years if things stay stable? >> Yeah. So I mean the the funding will be kind of about we're going to hit somewhat of a cliff in fiscal year 28. the high school will continue kind of that same enrollment trajectory until I would say like the seventh years, right? And things kind of remain the same. I think we're graduating 28 this year, >> right? >> It's even Steven. >> Yeah, it's even Steven for a little while. So the even Steven generally comes with about a two and a half% increase from the state that doesn't even cover the cost of property, right? um forget um display allowed to display that document. But >> so I think you know just piggybacking on what Matt said you you could look >> Yeah. >>
you know at at what kind of the additional public and private funding. So the additional public and private let's just take this year for example it's 1.18 as outlined in that first groupings. Not that's not only house to 408 and um the reconciliation dollars from NS right this this is also federal funding grant local foundations on and on and on right whatever whatever we're able to bring in >> you see that number drop slightly heading into fiscal year 27 um you know it's going to drop well you can see the additional funding needed And if we flip to the back, you know, ignore for now the levy we have, but if we look at, you know, House Bill 40846 going forward, um, that's going to continue to kind of drop down. Our need is going
to also continue to drop down. So really, this is what we talked at length about yesterday. So that the target for June and July of 2028 is to have 1.6 six. Now, even if the burn rate stays the same at 800,000, 800. Yeah, let's call it 800,000 for a round number. If that burn rate stays the same, that drops down again to eight. But we can anticipate pretty pretty with a high degree of certainty that we in 28 will also have the ability to bring in a million. Does that make sense? So then what we're really going to be speaking about and and part of what the budget committee spoke to as well and I'll wait for the trustees until we get to that agenda item. We do have the ability to run a very
minimal operations levy this year um at 27 and that's where as the denotes we'll be choosing the ballot language with or without and then I think we have pretty rich conversations around that um at the budget committee level and and happy to hear from anybody else on that. You should be able to share. >> I don't have anything else. >> And Dustin, we're we're going to speak to the levy at a different agenda item, right? >> Yes. >> Yeah. Number two. >> Okay. Great. Thank you. >> Thanks, ma'am. >> Thanks. >> Yes, sir. Yeah. Uh, anything else that right now >> questions? Okay, I will move on to discussion action. assignment. >> Who's reading? >> Oh, okay. Yeah, sorry for me. I just wanted to >> uh I motion that we approve Glenn, how do
you say his last name? >> Glassed up. or a >> glass >> 1.0 FTE for the school year in 2627. >> Um so this is for this ourformational agenda item number seven and his paperwork's in the packet. He we interviewed him online then he came to the to the campus too and spent an afternoon with us so he do some further questioning. It was interesting though when the job got posted we got two we interviewed two people right away and he's gone dead since then. >> Yeah. >> Interesting. So I I think he's going to be we both it was Marlo and I we really really liked him. I think he's going to be a great addition to the team >> and because he I know I saw he's getting his masters but does he
have teaching experience? I know >> he doesn't. So we're going to assign him with one or more facult with a faculty as a mentor for next year and then he'll be getting the theoretical through Montana State University. >> Yeah. Right. and his gap in the like his work history that's because he's been in school because it looks like he hasn't done anything since 24. >> I think it was that and kind of uh he also spoke a lot about once he quit the career in finance he just kind of decompressed in different places around the world >> as a I think like a semi-retirement for a little while. >> Okay. Okay. I just was wondering if it was just something he didn't put on it. >> Um, >> okay. >> Other questions? Call for a
vote. All those in favor? >> I >> Matt I >> awesome that you have. >> Any opposed? Pass unanimously. Okay. >> I motion to move to open discussion on the ballot language. Um we do that first and then the second motion will be to approve whichever we decide. >> I second those discussion. >> So I I pulled up and I'm sharing that same document that you were looking at before. Um, so as we head into fiscal year 27, it's really going to I'll try to get it to where those are kind of the only two things that we're looking at. So the the first three is our anticipated revenue. Second is our anticipated expenditure. We do look for our expenditures to go down slightly with some attrition and a few other things. Um, so we
have the ability to run a levy for $27,000. You know, we're targeting $175,000 for increased payroll. Um, we're going into negotiations very soon. Um, and that we could be across that would be across the employee, not just certified and or classified across the entire employee group. So really what we need to decide here that so you have two ballots in your in your packet. One with the levy, you know, and everything's spelled out how how was supposed to be by law like what that impact is. That's also available on this document. And then one is just the trustee positions which really we don't do anything with that other than say there's these two and then the county will put those names in there that's so >> I I see you recommend not putting on levy
>> that would give us a recommendation and I'll let the budget committee we spoke in length about this >> it's nice not to be asked because even though it's nothing it's something these people I mean people are so riled up about the property taxes already >> and since is not material to a budget. I agree that not having a levy is a better idea. >> And that was exactly our discussion. You know, the property tax discussions have been >> overwhelming. They're insane. >> Yeah. >> People are going insane and they want they don't want it anymore anywhere. >> Yeah. >> At all >> regardless. Yeah. It doesn't matter what it is. >> Yeah. And that was our that was our thought process when we spoke >> 108. Yeah. >> And and again it's not pivotable
to our >> budget come forward. So >> so I would make the motion that we >> ballot number whichever one that doesn't >> or you can make >> I think it's number two. >> Matt, do you have anything to add to that at all or everything? >> No. Yeah. I think Barbara really hit the nail on the head. people, I think, are a little weary of that. And I think it's good to take a year off. >> Yeah. >> And and for everybody's knowledge, too, we we do have a $109,000 building reserve levy that expires after fiscal year 27. So, in order to renew that, that will be that will have to go on on next year. >> We'll have that the year after. So, instead of doing >> So, we had a break. Yeah.
Yeah. I can't Did we have we recently done no levies? >> Has that happened recently? >> I don't years ago or was it years ago? Maybe >> we did something last year, didn't >> we? >> Last year we did something we did last year was the $300,000 housing for through um >> I think it's great to slip in that somehow if you can slip in somewhere. We're not asking for anyone, you know, because you got to point out that you're not that it's not there. >> Well, our bus bars coming off. What else? There's >> so bus out of the transportation. The payments to Boseman and Corki can be jumping in and without this the school's footprint in your T is getting smaller. >> Yeah. >> After these things come up, we pay these job.
>> So, we could get a little placed thing sometime about how We paid off the bus. We're getting done with the Boseman payments. So, >> you know, I think it's good because Yeah, they're just ravid. I'm on the BSOA and they're just insane. Like your house, you're assessed at $15 million. >> Be happy. >> Yeah. I think Yeah, I think we're all in agreement there. >> Okay. So, I made that motion. Would you second it or you made the motion? >> Second it. >> You made it. Mhm. >> I second the motion to approve the language without the levy. >> Any further discussion on that? >> Is that everything we need? >> I think so. >> Okay. Call for a vote. All those in favor? >> I >> Any opposed? Pass unanimously. >> Choice. Uh,
I motion >> to or I move to approve the academic calendar number three for the 2026 27 school year. I second that motion >> and it looked like that was what everybody wanted of the staff wanted >> and it from what I could see the big I I tried to look at it and figure out the big changes what the big difference starting the starting slightly different and then >> and the breaks weren't quite as long throughout in the other two options >> the Christmas break was or not Christmas Thanksgiving was only the three for the on the three >> it's a week >> on the three it's a week Christmas >> like the four day weekends January and February >> to go and then to go a full week at the end as opposed
to like finishing off >> out of curiosity we never look at any options where spring break moves or goes away or >> does out of curiosity wondering if like why there's never any options where the spring break like >> is different. Yeah, >> I think that's set with with IV. Well, it's not set to be that's kind of been you're talking about moving it earlier to be in a more traditional time frame like >> March Betsy. >> Yes. Yeah. Or not at all or I mean >> or no spring break at all. Yeah. Or I mean like an Easter break or I don't just >> uh No, but certainly that's something we can we can consider next time going into a calendar committee. >> But it does have to do with IB testing and it
does target. >> Well having it but I think you know before if so you will remember because you were on the board right it was kind of this is still kind of an orphan of the resort. Yeah, >> it's it's not though because it's we so initially it was we stayed with Boseman High for years and years till we got to high school. So even and then it was in March because they were in March and MSU was in March. Then everyone made we made a big huddle below about this is an economy dominated by a ski season and it should fall with the ski season and then a few year and that happened for a while, >> right? And then >> because of employees >> because employees have kids and they can't go on
spring break in March or February, right? They it's in fact two weeks at Christmas is pretty well there's always earlier then too. >> Yes. But now so now it's um well they've always it always varies. There was word always varies with Easter, >> right? Um, and so then it went to this April and I was always told that had to do with IB because that doesn't have to do with Boseman, MSU or the skier. The skier is still >> So what is why is it? So you will remember we we had a meeting talking about moving to March and this room was full of people who worked for Big Sky Resort >> in addition to faculty members who had spouses for Big Sky Resort. >> They did not want it to be they did not
want it moved to >> March is bad. April's a little bit, but we're still operating the area is still operating when spring break is. So there's >> Yeah, but historically it did not. Historically, the resort closed a week or two earlier than it does now. >> Historically, >> which made a deadline, >> historically it always fell with Easter and then they started >> unless Easter was really early >> and we were like a week. >> May have some may have had a little bit of talk about this in my house. Well, because we even at that at that meeting, one of the other trustees, we had the we looked at, >> you know, the calendars of other what was the term at the time that Troy mentions >> and the school and the resort closing
had no connection whatsoever. >> Not tell that's different because Tellide did it was interesting. Tellide did a fall break. >> I'm just talking about it to find that we reviewed this in 2018. So >> yeah because we >> So why is it enabled? >> Because that's the majority of the people that's when it's been >> that's when people wanted to have it still. We haven't gone back drawing board desk. >> So traditionally is a fun fun because the tradition whenever we started the high school before we got to high school the tradition was absolutely follow MSU because the kids were in the high school there so we followed Boseman's so and Boseman's was MSU and that was March. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. >> And it was more dominated by families at the resort. >>
Yeah. >> And then right then we revisited that in 18ish >> and everyone was still on board to have that stay where it is. >> I'm just curious why. I'm just I it seems like when I'm like subbing it seems like it's really late in the year like the kids are ready for a break earlier and >> okay >> and it messes up if your kids do any spring sports it messes up the spring sports because the other schools use those weekends for track meets and >> other events and so I was just curious if anybody's like considered moving it >> I think it's interesting what you say discussion >> because it's just it's just getting fundamentally getting input from parents and people like yourselves. Do you really want to go on break then or
would you rather in April would you rather be out of school earlier and not have a spring break, you know, or have have Christmas? >> No, they they need a break. Everybody needs >> Well, she's saying it's kind of but it's kind of I mean >> here here's what I would say from an operational standpoint. There's a principal and two teachers in and a former teacher back. >> Please remember members you can participate as a special. >> We could cancel all breaks. If people want to take a week trip, take a trip. >> That's true. >> I know. >> Yeah, >> I know. I'm just >> They would. >> And then the staff doesn't get a week trip, >> Right. Then the staff >> Oh, the staff. >> They would potentially >> No, that would
be terrible. But potentially with the mountain extending the season, we can't wait for the mountain to close and take spring break the 1 of May. Like you just >> because then we come back and IB testing is so close to >> I agree with that. I'm just trying >> that we don't have the room. >> I just think it's always worth revisiting as it goes along because I see her point and when you see it's all crammed in, you come back but you don't really come back. So, you're really close to May and then school then you're going into all the end of school things, right? And you're done. >> And so, I can see her point of moving it up, but it really wouldn't work with the resort. So, that's why I'm kind of
having not spoken to you about it, Betsy, but I'm just trying to like play with what you're saying that I agree that it feels late. >> It's certainly later than any public school in Montana that takes a full week. And so then the question is if you looked what we did years ago was analyze how many people are gone for two weeks in the April. >> And so when that happens then you say okay if that's the case you just go through and say you guys all want to take your breaks whenever you they take their breaks whenever they want anyway >> because we're dealing with all of this. >> So then it's immaterial when spring break is because they're going to go on spring break whenever they want to go on. >> Well that's
what we do at Thanksgiving. That's exactly what we serious, >> right? But you do if you go that way, you do get out of school earlier and you have the potential to, you know, I don't know. And there's also because there's >> I mean I think I was I'm not arguing. >> I'm not even >> no spring break, but I'm just saying it might be worth like asking the teachers if they would like an earlier break or >> considering on >> Didn't they weigh in on this? There was a survey. >> I mean, they only waited until there were three options. >> Three options were basically the same >> almost the same. >> Yeah, we had one spring break earlier, one was later >> and it was playing around with these other >> and I
mean now it's not that bad because the calendar's gradually shifting to earlier. Spring break is the first week in April this year, >> which is bad. >> It's been the first week in April >> because that's when I believe. >> Yeah. And before that it was kind of that second it was later. Yeah. >> For those few years. >> Yeah, it was later sometimes. It would depend. They would call the school would >> figure out when the resort was it would change year to year. >> So I mean it's certainly something we could revisit again if we wanted to. But >> well I think in general looking at ways as we look at falling enrollment and everyone talks about of course you want to have a good school to draw people here. The other thing
you want to have is happy parents. Parents that feel the school is somehow working with their and staff. But but staff we pay and children bring money. Yeah. >> Okay. And then we don't have enough kids. We don't we have to let those staff go. >> So let's be real >> about about that. And we want to have enrollment. We want to grow the school. you you figure out ways to make parents feel heard and having having their convenience and there's so much flexibility since we're hours not days of school to get to get things that parents want. I don't know what parents want. Children are out of college, >> but um I think it's worth like the calendar committee trying to revisit things that don't work. I know sometimes those little elementary the days
that are out there where there's a break for >> a vac or something that's really hard on working parents to to cover those you know >> we have a program right in the building now I think they so perfect >> that's good to know >> and our program runs special key items too >> perfect >> and what was our >> response from parents the survey. >> I mean likewise >> was huge. >> How many? >> Yeah. Was it a good chunk? I didn't really >> in addition to scaff. >> Yeah. I mean, so that's a pretty good representation. >> I thought it was interesting. Like I have three kids in the school and so I but you can only vote once. >> I know. I thought I should I thought Three votes is >> no
can do. >> Well, any further discussion on that? Is that >> I think we have our decision made. >> So, uh option three. >> Yep. >> Okay. All right. Well, let's call for a vote. All those in favor? I >> I >> Matt I >> Any opposed? >> Passes unanimously. >> Move on to number four, please. >> I move to approve theou with greater Gallatin United Way as presented which does not change. >> Second. >> So it's in the packet. It's the same system we had them for the summer, but um they do a good job. >> Yeah, we've never had any issues. So, >> call for a vote. All those in favor? >> I >> Any opposed? >> I um Why is number five tabled? >> They didn't get the information. >> Oh, I
see. Okay. Um, okay. Uh, I move to approve the additional language policy 8225 as presented. >> Um, I do have a question. >> I second that. I do have some questions. >> Yeah. But I'm now not that I think it's a bad idea. >> So it so it's in the packet. Um, that's the tobacco free policy. We've had some incences of faking in our bathrooms and we'd like to, you know, have vape detectors ready to help remedy this, but we do need some additional language in the policy which is highlighted in purple that you guys authorize that. And then, you know, should you approve this, we'll message out. So, everybody, >> so I don't know anything about immediately. >> I'm just going to reveal nothing about you. Can't smell it. >> Oh, you can smell
it. So these what do these do? Obviously you just came to the bathroom vaping in >> Yeah. Now what about when adults use the I mean not that they should be doing it either but I know >> so we're only talking about two specific bathrooms. The one in the steam wing and then the one by the library which is the most commonly used >> by students. So would it be you know more the more public facing bathrooms under B center and the W. Okay. So those Okay, that makes sense. >> You can't vape any. >> No, >> but nobody else Nobody. >> It's just another line of >> Yeah. >> showing the kids that we have to step out there. >> Yeah, I think it's good. >> And what's been the How many issues have
we had lately? >> What's been >> It's really hard to Well, suspicions, >> right? >> Dozen. >> Yeah. um >> just by people going in there and they can smell it. >> Smell it. Then then you've got to go then it's very difficult. You know three or four people have gone and come from the bathroom in that time frame when somebody detects it. >> Right. Okay. And these will be noticeable. It'll be made public obviously to students. Everybody, hey, these are in there now. >> Find a new way to school. Are they pretty sensitive? Are there more than one or >> do they blare? Because that would be the best one there. >> Can they take your picture? >> Close to the people that are doing it or can they like if they walk out
do they threat smoke it and catches? >> My understanding is it just as long as it's in that room. It's looking at particle sizes of which in the air. It won't it wouldn't get it from another room. It's just going to be physically in there. But as long as it's happening in there, it should there's >> recognize particles in the air. >> Yeah. >> Now, is it like a smoke alarm? Like >> it looks just like a smoke alarm. It just has a little bit more technology in it. >> Does it sound Does it sound like a smoke alarm and everyone comes running or >> that's not the goal would be to have them just remain silent. There's no notification that it has triggered other than a backend like >> right and you can timestamp
it better to see who was in there things like that. >> They wouldn't know that it had been detected. It would just >> until we confronted it. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. >> Sneaky. >> Any other questions? >> Um call for a vote. All those in favor? I >> I >> Any opposed? Pass unanimously. >> We don't need a motion. Number seven. >> No, that's just more informationational. Um I think Brad's been with us for eight years. I think >> I think you're right. >> Yeah. and he's ready for 30 years in public schools in Montana. >> Time to do some fun. >> Yeah. >> Great. >> Okay. Um, >> so this >> I move to assign the policy committee as the ad hoc committee for incident review. Um, >> a second. >> Oh, I'm
sorry. >> Second. >> Oh, second. Is this in the book? This would be something we would have to add to the handbook. >> Um, I don't think it would be a handbook >> necessarily. Um, it's it would be more procedural probably that would become part of the emergency operations plan. So really this kind of comes from, you know, the students kind of walk out a couple Fridays ago on the 30th. Um, and I' I'd like some input on, you know, kind of the procedures that we followed leading up to that. Um and then the end result to be some kind of a of a procedure that we you know share here and share with the comm community on how we're going to poss what the protocols would be handling those things moving forward as you
never know we might we might start to see more of this and I just think it would be a wise idea for all of us to be on the same page. Can you give us I think we're in the school building. I'm done you chat about this. I saw that they did it. Did we know that they were going to walk out? >> I mean we were made aware. Yeah. >> So what has what has been we have these people? I think we >> the school handled it great. I thought >> we had >> as a parent >> we had one some time ago um about >> what was it? I remember >> school violence. >> Um, and I think you know all all steps and procedures that were done this last time it was
a lot bigger and it was a lot more emotional I guess I could say um you know review that and the ad hoc as well. So would this be like for this for how this just the administration addresses it or is this a way for the kids to go through a process? No. >> Okay. >> It would be the same as if we didn't have something in place in case there was >> Okay. >> Well, it does seem like we need I guess a policy. What was the response? What happened after? Were parents upset about it? I mean I I think it's a good idea parents upset or all parents you know happy like that's some I I think it's an I think it's a good idea from a riskmanagement and everything else perspective >>
to have a policy >> not necessarily policy procedure >> that's been approved by the board because then what did you what I mean I'm just curious I just saw them on the front of the paper that's a it looks like it looked like it was a good look around town that kids expressing themselves. >> You have to know that all the kids are accounted for picking context of >> we received an email that stated like your children left like we were notified of it and that it was peaceful I think is kind of the main I can send it to you Barbara. I just really want to understand what happened just so that I know when I'm out in the morning. >> I think that's the point of the ad hoc committee, Barbara. >> Yeah,
that makes sense. >> Well, what that doesn't tell me what happened last week. It will tell me what will happen. >> I think that that should be part of exactly what happens in the ad hoc committee is to review the steps and procedures follow. >> All right. Thank you. Thank you. Get educated during the school >> and this policy committee. I mean, are we good with that? >> Yeah. >> That's Matt and Barbara. >> Yeah. And then we'll we'll invite uh Matt Dory at middle school. Well, possibly middle school high school or elementary school. >> All right. Any other discussion? >> Uh no. >> Uh call for a vote. All those in favor? >> I. >> Matt I. >> Any opposed? >> Pass unanimously. So, I'll be in touch and hopefully we can have this
buttoned up for something in front of the board in March. Matt and Barbara. >> All right. Thank you. >> I think we have to do the >> consent agenda. >> Yeah. I motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> For a vote. >> No. Mandatory out of district students. Is that just start? >> Yeah, >> actually. We don't have any >> remote vote. All those in favor? >> I opposed unanimous slated. >> Good meeting dates Tuesday, March 10th and tenatively April 14th. Anything else? Anything? Thanks everybody. Thank you. Thank
