Okay, this meeting is being recorded and this recording does not constitute the official record of this meeting. All documents from this meeting are available on the schoolboard page of the district website. Call the meeting to order. Uh we're going to skip the pledge. Um I don't we don't have any public comment on this agenda item. [clears throat] We're going to move right into discussion and action items. So, um, what we're going to do today is, um, I'd like, you know, Betsy and Matt and myself met as a committee, uh, to, uh, address this complaint filed. And so, really, >> present our finding. >> Yeah, I was going to say if I get a motion from one of you you guys um, as to what our findings were so that we can then open this discussion,
please. I don't >> I guess the motion would be I'll move to uh have the appeals panel present its recommendation to the full board. >> Will that work? >> Second. >> Okay. Um Dustin, is that is that good for opening this conversation? >> Yeah, that's a great um that's a great motion. And then now the appeals panel can present the recommendation. >> Okay. Um >> so >> yeah, sorry. We got together to talk about basically the um complaint that was filed is that there was a bullying charge and um there wasn't followed proper procedure. Um they thought that some other things were out of line. So we looked at all >> I I can read our recommendation, Matt, if that would be helpful, >> please. Yeah. Yeah. >> So, I I sent this to Dustin,
so it it will be made part of the record. We had to prevent present a written recommendation. I'm just going to read from that written recommendation. Um, and it starts here. quote, "As required by Big Sky School District policy 1700, the appeals panel has considered the written appeals submitted by the Zerumba family on October 31st, 2025, as well as the supporting materials provided to all parties by Superintendent Dustin Shipman on November 5th, 2025. The appeals panel recommends that the full board deny the Zeremba's appeal because the appeals panel does not believe the superintendent andor any other district employees and/or agents violated DZ's rights or those of his family under state law, federal law, andor board policy. That recommendation is signed by Matthew Jennings, board chair, Matthew Dodd, vice board chair, and Betsy Bigger, staff trustee,
dated November 17th, 2025. >> Thanks, Matt. >> Do we have any discussion on anything? Does anybody want to add anything? >> Uh, can I ask a question? >> Sure. What does that do to the student? Like how will that affect the student? >> Uh Dustin, >> it shouldn't affect the student at all. >> Okay. >> The student has never been denied a right to to an education. We've never said the student couldn't come to school. That that has been a parent choice the whole time as is documented in the um in the paperwork that were shared with the appeals panel. So it it doesn't affect the student at all. >> And and then you know there is a safety plan that is um >> been in place for I think a month plus now >>
uh that I assume Dustin will stay in place as long as the district believes it needs to stay in place. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Anything else anybody So basically we're just voting on this what we found as a committee right now. So, and that's correct. >> And then we'll still deal with hopefully getting it back in school and all that good stuff uh moving forward. So, >> yeah. So, you you had a motion to kind of open the to make the recommendation. Now, probably somebody should make a motion to accept the recommendation as presented by trustee Dodd. >> Okay. I motion that we accept the recommendation as proposed by Trustee Dodd. >> I second the motion. Okay, we'll call for a >> vote. I I >> All those in favor I >>
Barbara Barbara also voted affirmative. >> Thank you. >> Passes unanimously. Okay. Anything else we need to cover, Dustin? >> No. Thank you everybody for your time on this and and your thoughtfulness in that process. >> Yeah. Thanks everybody for taking the time. I appreciate it. I know we're all moving around. So, um, meeting adjourned. Everybody have a great weekend. >> Happy trails, everybody.
