Conference will now be recorded. >> Call the meeting to order. I'm Mike Ziggler, chair. Uh, it's probably be simpler just to go us online here first. Bo, you go first. >> Okay. Bo Gibbs, vice chair. >> I heard Alexani. >> Yeah. Are there a while sir? >> Yep. >> I think is that I think it's everyone on the line. So if you guys want to go ahead >> Tessa Hopper trustee >> Jay Failen trustee >> Stephan driveby superintendent. Okay that take done with introduction of guests takes us to the consent agenda. Uh, if everyone's had a chance to read that, we've been having a motion in a second. >> I'll move to approve. >> I'll second. >> It's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or comments? If not, all in favor say I. >>

I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. That takes us to uh public comments. Is there any public comment today? >> Uh it looks like we have Ryan how is >> okay I'll just kind of give some guidance here first. Uh you know we're kind of governed by policy here. Let's read kind of what's in the agenda. Uh Montana law recognizes the rights of the public to make comments at board meeting. This right stems from our constitutional provisions concerning the public's right to participate in government. No person shall be deprived of the right to examine documents or to observe the deliberations of all public bodies or agencies of state government and its subsidi subdivisions except in cases in which the demand of individual privacy clearly exceeds the merits of public disclosure. Uh yeah and then uh public

will have a chance to address the board on any public matter that is not on the agenda of the meeting and that is within the jurisdiction of the school district conducting the meeting. The board may not take any action on any matter discussed unless the notice is included on an agenda and the public has been properly notified on the matter. The board is not required to respond or participate uh in a give and take discussion or debate during public comment. And the board chair has complete and final authority to govern the general comment period. And uh sorry, one more thing. Uh kind of governed on our policy 4310. The board is interested in receiving valid complaints and suggestions. Public complaints and suggestions shall be submitted by the uniform complaint procedure to the appropriate level staff

member or district administrator. Each complaint or suggestion shall be considered on its merits. Uh I guess with that guidance uh yeah feel free to give public comment please. >> Good. My issue is with our basketball. Um, I understand the need that we bring up eighth graders when we don't have enough to make a team. That's actually what it was brought up for. That's why MHSA agreed upon it and all the schools did. We currently have 15 kids in the varsity JV team and there was 19 that went out. forward cut and then as I've seen at the next game we brought up eighth graders to play on the JB team. Um being as we are a public school and a high school. I think that needs to be looked at and reviewed because if there

is enough kids that go out for the team, we shouldn't be bringing eighth graders up to play on the JV team. Now granted, I do understand there are limits and the limits are by the MHSA is 15 kids on a varsity team. There are no limits on the junior varsity team and obviously C squad. But I mean, if we're really here to teach and coach kids and make a better environment, cutting them to bring junior high kids up is not teaching that. And I think this board needs to review that and look at that because I don't think that's really what we're here to coach for. And like I say, I'm not saying about coaching. I'm just saying coaching is generalist coaching. Um because personally, I mean, we can discuss that this is a bigger

school. We build a smaller school. We come from I came from a school four times the size of this school. We didn't cut anybody. If you didn't make varsity, you were on JV or C squad. This is the way it was. Um, so I don't think, granted, there are some players in eighth or eighth grade that should be able to come up, but I don't think they should push out a high school student for a high school spot. And that's and I think it needs to be reviewed because I don't think it's fair. And granted, yes, I know kids need to learn life's not fair, but they can also learn that on the court, you know, and learn that they might not get to play all the time. Well, that's part of being on the

team. So, that's just that's where I'm at on it. I hope we visit this later and hopefully we can get something done because I don't think it's fair. That's that's where I'm at on it. >> All right. Uh, thank you. Thank you for your public comment. Uh that takes us to communication report to inform trustees of the filing filing timeline. Uh it's just I think I'm >> Oh, go ahead. Sorry. Go ahead. >> That report's for you because I think you're the only one that's up for reelection besides the one open seat. So >> yeah. >> And we'll get to this a little bit later. um in action items as to you know typically we give this um report to inform you guys about what's opening up but usually it doesn't happen till February and

so that's been bumped up by the state and so now so next year that report to inform trustees will come a little bit earlier than it normally does. um we were kind of scrambling to make sure that we got this done because it's it's usually in February that we have to come with this. So um so yeah anyways just reminding you to put in an application um if you're going to rerun. Okay, thanks. Uh takes us to communication C uh reports. Does anybody have any questions or does admin have any anything they want to add or highlight? >> No, I fully got mine finished. All thoughts. >> Only if there's questions. >> Any questions? I don't have any. Any questions? >> Pretty thorough. So, >> yeah. All right. That takes us to reports, discussions, policies,

building updates. >> That's all you read. >> Uh, yeah, I was very thorough in my report, too. So, >> yeah. >> Um, actually, no, I can't think of anything off the top of my head other than what's in my report. Um, working out glitches with the heating system. Um, just a ton of little glitches, a lot of factory issues. Um, but we have heat in almost every room and also >> except for me. I don't either. >> I don't either. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. The two most important people in the building. >> Even the shops. The shop is >> Yeah. The shop wood shop, >> but they're working on those. They started >> within within days everything will be done. then it will be till I don't know I'm thinking middle end of January before

all the like all the trim and all that kind of stuff is finished up. So, but the most important thing is that we add heat will be in the wrapped up by I'm hoping um end of this week or beginning of next week. So, other than that, if anybody has any questions. >> It's always interesting. People were complaining because it was too cold and then the heat came on and then they set it to 65 in the gym and everyone was like it was so hot in the gym. Holy moly. I was like wait said we set it at 65. Let's roll over it for tomorrow night. I walked up to the top of the radio station was like I don't know how anybody is even sitting up here. It was >> so so it

works well. >> It works really well. And that's what I said. I had a community member like oh he works. I said aren't we lucky? And that was only one of the two heating units up there were turned on. And there was one of the glitches. Too much information for you here. But so they're big fancy uh really nice huge units that are sitting way up on top of the gymnasium as you can see from all across town now. But from the factory, their thermostat where you're wiring your thermostat on the unit is like not of this country. and tech support and and all those guys haven't been able to figure it out. So, there's no way of wiring up the thermostat yet. So, they said that the basically the thermostat on the in incoming

return error sensor up on the unit. So anytime an adjustment needed to be made, me by hand would have to crawl all the way up to there, open up the door, adjust the sensor inside the unit, and then from there until we can get a thermostat wired down. Once we get that, then the coaches can go over and turn up and down or not. But yeah, so and then it was too cold by this afternoon. So, um, but people like I'm not going out there until tomorrow morning the sun. So, you'll turn it back up. >> Nice. And there were lots of compliments on the tubes that run across the top too that people noticed that and said they liked it. It looked really nice. So, >> that's the only pretty part of the whole

project. >> That's your You're telling the truth. and they sent us a Christmas present. >> So >> if you open that up, I think it's a big bar of chocolate with a hammer from Farland West Engineering, the engineers on the HVAC project. So since you two are the only board members here, you have >> they have the hammer first break and whatever wherever it goes. >> Like the wishbone or whatever. All right, there's no more no questions for Rhett. That takes us to policies and this is just the first reading. So, we don't need to vote on this. Uh, but if there's any questions or concerns with that, uh, I guess now's the time to discuss it. I guess if not uh takes us to action items call for elementary election trustees and general fund

levy. >> Yeah. So typically um like I was saying earlier comes in February and and it also comes with one resolution. Usually we were able to do an elementary and a high school before all in one re u resolution but they said no on that now. So there's more rules with this. Um they're both there. You can see that in the resolution. Basically, what you're approving on this one is elementary. And it's not only the trustees, but then also the the general fund levy. Now, it was hard enough in February because we always had to call for general fund levy, but that's way before we get information from the state whether or not we need one or not. So, we'd always call for it and then once we got the numbers, then we could um

cancel it. And so the language is the same as what we've done in the past where um we're calling for the election just in case we get the numbers back and we do need to run one that gives the board an option uh later to cancel or continue. But if we don't call for it now um we can't do that. And correct me if I'm wrong, Jackie, but really the big change in this is just to for our um our county um oh what's what are they called? um >> person does the elections, >> the election administrator. >> Yeah. It's it's basically for them to make sure that they have enough time to get everything done that needs to be done. There's quite a bit of stuff. >> Yeah. Before they it was barely enough

time for them to print the ballots and get the judges because there had like a day in between when we would call for it and when they would get the ballots printed and stuff. And this extends that time frame for them to give them a lot more time to get all that stuff done. And then like you said, we can cancel it at any time. That's one of the provisions in there. If we decide we don't need the levy election, um we can cancel it. If um same Mike files and he's the only one and we can do election by um what's called proclamation um or then we can cancel that at that time, too. So, it just gets it all set up for us. If we need it, then we go forward. If we

don't, we cancel it. But it's usually in March, I think, that we do this. And now we're doing it in December. So, >> oh, February we did the this part of the resolution and then March we do the >> Yeah. >> numbers >> the numbers in March. Yeah. And the um trustes filing timeline changed too. It used to go from December till March 30th. Now it goes from December till February, like the second week of February, I think. So, they shortened that up quite a bit to just to give the the election administrator more time to get all that stuff figured out on the ballot. And that's going to be true for everyone, not just the schools. >> Yes. >> Any questions on the elementary one? >> And we will have you will have to

do it separately. That's why we separated by its. We do need a motion and a second. >> There's a >> to approve. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. I can't make a motion on this. >> Can I second the motion? >> No, I didn't think about that now. >> Oh, yeah. Well, I'll second the motion then. >> You go. >> Okay. Okay. It's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or uh comments? If if not, >> I'll just I'll just clear up what just happened for everyone. >> Yeah. >> So is asking because he's in the high school district. >> Um and so he can't vote on just elementary stuff. Very because we're a unified school district, he's able to vote on everything else when it's combined. But when it's just elementary, which we don't have

too many things that are elementary, but this is one of them. So I'm glad you caught that. Um so we won't be able to vote on this one. So all in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. That takes us to call for high school election. >> Make the motion for approval. >> I'll second it. All second. >> Okay, it's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or comments? If not, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Oh, sorry. Any opposed? >> Motion carries. And that takes us to action other Oh, sorry. Uh, I think we're going to rearrange this Stefan. Is that correct? We'll do Vulcurt and Wagaser and then come back to superintendent evaluation in close session. >> I don't Yeah, I don't think you're going to

want Val to wait here for as long as the evaluation and stuff before she gets to go. So, >> okay. >> There's there's three that they'll be talking, but you'll need to close the form. >> Okay. So, we'll go into close session for Vulker and Wagaser. Uh, thanks everybody for coming. Serious be gone by the time. >> That is huge. >> Yeah, there's another one. >> It's an expensive chocolate bar. >> Yeah. >> Oh, wow. Chocolate bar. >> All right, Mike. >> Wow. >> 2.5. >> Close the recording. >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, >> good night. See you later. >> Thanks, J. >> This conference will now be recorded. >> Okay, we're back in open session. Uh, Vulker and Waggler number one. >> I'll make a motion to approve >> and I'll second

it. >> It's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or comment? If not, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Uh, Vulker and WGuser number two. >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> I'll second it. >> It's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or comment? If not, all in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? Motion carries. And Vulcan Waguser number three. >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> And I'll second it. >> It's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or comment? If not, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Okay, with that we'll go back into close session and uh discuss the uh superintendent evaluation. >> Before I step out, I just want to say thank you and I hope

everybody has a wonderful Christmas. Well, >> thank you. Enjoy your >> Thank you for Yeah. All right, I'll close it. >> This conference will now be recorded. >> Okay, we're back in open session uh after uh taking a look at the contract. >> A motion to approve the contract brought to us >> and I will second that. Okay, it's been moved and seconded. Any further discussion or comments? If not, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. And I guess with that, I'll adjourn the meeting. Thanks everybody. Thanks everyone.
