001And we're now recording again after the third allegation of the night. On here, somebody had mentioned like he was too quiet. Like that the the person was talking to you, but he's grown, you know. And that that but I just it was a personality thing for me. It's not a And that comment was And again, the reason I didn't like go for it all end end was because when I talked to him on the phone when I did the the reference call with them, I said I want you to be really frank with me and I'm going to share this information that was going to be that frank. If it's important to you, you know, this will be confidential, basically. Um cuz I would really like to know your apart felt thoughts on this position.
002And like I said, none of it was negative. Um but that's why I included quite everything and part of that was, you know, your comment of And if that comment from him was it was right out the gate and I think I could share that part. Used to be more so is kind of how you say it. What that he was quieter when he first started out of college. That's exactly what he said. When he first got there, that was his first job after his MBA. He was quiet, but he grew quickly. There he goes jumping in. Yep. Yeah. I mean, that grows. Yes, that's Yeah, that's expected. I have no issues hiring him back. Very calm demeanor that was brought up in the last time that we saw here. You know, and he stated
003you know, which I think our first one thing is when we talk to them in that position, you kind of have to be the calm in the storm a lot of times. You can't be afraid to rock the boat a little bit. >> No. But the communication I heard was >> Sometimes. very good. I mean, Dylan's example in his presentation showed that he he held the line. Absolutely. Yes. >> Yeah, I agree. And it was hard for him, but that was a good example he gave. And obviously he learned from that, right? That was my thought as well. And longevity-wise, I know I know Chris is older, but I I think I mean they are planning to move here. They're planning to live here, so Yeah, so there's a part of me that says that
004I mean other than his age, which you can't really factor, but I mean the retirement portion I don't anticipate him like necessarily bouncing back to Nebraska. That's not what I see in that. Well, longevity can be thrown out, in my opinion, because if we don't give the Dylan a coaching job in 3 to 5 years, he's probably not going to stay because that's what he loves. I don't know what he likes. So, I mean the longevity thing to me is a moot cause. I mean there's no There's no way I'm saying he's going to stay. Actually look, Chris has only been a superintendent for 4 years. >> Yeah, but he's got Yeah. Dylan has been a superintendent for 5 years. Yes. So, he actually has more experience as a superintendent. But he But Chris has
005Chris has as a an administrator 23 years. In Nebraska. Correct. Montana. In the West B not a school of 400. True. Or whatever Chris I mean Yeah. We're back to them. So, one thing I will kind of bring up to that point, one other thing from the reference, I don't know if you guys read my notes or read I tried. I tried I tried as best as I my fast cursive notes and my poor note taking was he did say that there seems to be a lot more traffic in West B than what cuz he asked me about it or the patrol it says Chris knew about I'm familiar with West B. Um the amount of locals and he said uh Chris sounds like Malta has a lot of homegrown kids is the example he
006used to warn. I said, "I would say that's probably pretty true. We have a lot of farm ranch families around here. There's a few border patrol families, but for the most part I'd say most are around here." And he did tell me that in his opinion around the Westby area they have a lot of transients. More than I kind of surprised me at the amount of the oil Yeah. people that come and go. So he said, "I think you would be really surprised with the diversity of students and scenarios that Dylan has dealt with for his age." When I kind of brought up that whole you're in Westby or Malta, you know, how many kind of real issues maybe have you dealt with in But in that in that same point, Chris, he said he
007had six ranchers on his board. Mhm. They are ag-based community and ag-driven community. And so are we, you know, and he was talking about how we But again, he didn't have a lot of experience with the girls. That's good. So, that's hard to put into play. Yes. I just wanted to make sure you speak to the guys cuz I had that same doubt, you know, of I didn't know what kind of person he was. Yeah, I was kind of here that there was a lot more traffic Rebecca would learn from. Yep. Because I'm trying to make sense of this all a little bit, what I heard from teachers in the room was a little bit of leaning towards Dylan, but from what we got on the paper was that there were four strongly recommends for
008Chris, but only one strongly recommend for Dylan. It's the two just Who was on the panel Yeah, I know. So I'm just On the teacher panel? Mhm. Oh, Chris was the winner on Chris had four strongly recommends from the teacher panel, and Dylan only had one strongly recommend. But what I hear in the room is more of Alida Dillon. And part of that is it's just what I experienced being on the teacher panel and what I'm hearing It was from the discussion, yeah. I did hear, you know what I mean? I was going off of that. That's okay. >> Like now I'm going to say I would have done strongly recommended for both of them cuz like I said You know what I mean? What I heard I know I know I'm not but what
009I heard I'm going off of my perception in there. In the 30 minutes Yeah, I had 30 minutes. I wish I could have seen that what you guys saw with the presentations and heard more. You know what I mean? Cuz you guys had the question why Malta and that wasn't like that I wish that was a question. That's always been one of my questions. Why come here? Yeah. You know what I mean? Cuz that's always been a struggle of getting people here. So why are you coming here like You just don't close your eyes and you know like I said that was an example like when they asked us what was a difficult part of our school district I said, you know, years ago if you have an elementary position open you had eight to
01010 applicants. Now you get an elementary position open there's two or maybe three applicants at the most. So why are you wanting to come here? Like I wish that was a question I could have asked in there but sure. So I'm going off of my half an hour stuff but when I'm hearing what you guys are saying I'm hearing different stuff that might have leaned what I marked on my thing, you know what I mean? No, that's fine. Same here. I just said that I am now Paper or Austin or Shute? Right. So I guess do you those of you who you I guess were listening to this do you guys have any more questions? I mean I don't need to but I You know when you go through >> I liked I liked what
011I yeah. I liked them both. I am just really worried that he's just not Something I did like from Dillon though, and they both on 15 that question about I don't remember what it was, but they both said like call empty SBA or call the attorney, you know, yeah. But Dylan did say like the goal is to develop teachers. Develop teachers to be confident and exhaust everything before our teachers. Yeah, I did like that. I'm good. You know, before going to we're firing you, you know, we're non-renewing you. Like they both answered with the right thing, you know, empty SBA lawyers, but then when he just said you know, like our job is to develop good teachers. You know, that was I thought a good answer. And I think he understands what we have for
012tradition of excellence here. I mean, growing up in Chinook. I think he gets it. And I truly think after watching the interviews and everything that he will bend over backwards to make it work for the district. Yeah. I get I get the resume ready. >> it could go great and either way it could go awful. And so I think either one is going to do okay. I think we're very lucky to have that. I think so, too. I think either way we'll go okay. So I think the thing we need to be really clear about is that we are making no promises on any coaching or teaching positions. I don't want there I don't want to get one, two, three years down the road and be like, "But you said." I just don't want to
013be in that position. Right. And I don't think anybody wants that. No, and I and I don't I don't think he expects that either based on I mean, he asked the question with no intention of having an answer. Yeah, but I think he knows that that's really hard to answer. And I think that I'll just have to promise that we vote for him to, you know, offer him the position first and he'll have to say yes knowing but to your point there's no guarantees that he's willing to take that risk if he does our to make the most of it great if not then I guess we'll have Chris as a backup. That's my opinion. Then if he takes the job and 3 years down the road decides to move because of his coaching position
014somewhere else. Then I guess we'll We can't but but we can't pay I know we I know I know we can't. I'm just saying that like But just know that we're making the best decision with the information we have today. Right. Yes. And honestly as somebody in a month later I mean I feel both candidates will lead our school like great things. You know what I mean? And maybe you know that strong personality is too much and we need maybe we need the calm to help keep calm stuff, you know, but also the strong can help stir up and it's whatever like you said that's our common denominator. I don't know. You don't have a crystal ball. Yeah. The silent storm, yeah. Well, do we need to have any more questions until No, I don't.
015So we take a vote. You guys have any more questions? We need a motion. Yeah, you have to make a motion. How do we do that? Jessica. Don't roll your eyes. Just do it. I make a motion to hire Dylan as a superintendent and give Mr. Brooks the rights to call Chris and offer him the position if Dylan doesn't accept it and finance finance to negotiate. I have a motion from Jessica and a second from Kate. Any discussion? Okay, and we're going to poll. I'm not going to Don't raise your right hand. Oh, okay. All those in favor, raise your right hand. All those opposed, same sign. Motion carries. We have some good candidates, right? But we can all agree on the fact that we are very lucky to have the candidates we have. Absolutely.
016I'm glad it was all of us. Yeah, that's what I mean. Honestly, it's a good I just want to make it clear that even though this was a split vote, that this board is very good about being supportive. Oh, yeah. Oh, that's 100%. So, we need a motion to Prove me wrong in every aspect. Need a motion to adjourn. I make a motion to adjourn. We have a motion from Sue. Second. I second that. I'll second that. Ground, any discussion? Any discussion? All those in favor, say aye. Aye. Aye. All those opposed, same sign. We want all this voted. Yeah.
