All right, we're going to go ahead and get started. You please rise for the pledge. I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, thank you all for coming tonight. If you could silence your cell phone, that would be great. Do you have any board comments or observations? >> Um, do we have anybody wanting to make a public comment on a non-aggenda item? >> Uh, I'm here with an update for you regarding the school funding interim commission. And uh as you may recall, I had talked with you before about how there was some misalignment between things that were in the definition of quality education but not in the funding formula, including uh funding

for meeting the needs of gifted and talented students. So, um it's mandated in our state law and our accreditation standards that we identify and provide services for these students. They are listed in our definition of quality education. they are listed in the law that created the funding formula and yet they're not in the funding formula. Um so this was something that I uh communicated and advocated with the school funding interim commission about and in a meeting this past week. Uh part of their conversation was about the fact that there are three populations of students who are in the definition and in the law but not in the formula. um gifted students, ELLL students, and 504 students. And so they had conversation about aligning that and putting all of those into that school funding formula. Um

I haven't listened to all of the meeting yet. Uh, but the part that I did listen to so far, there was conversation about including transferring the L 504 students into the funding formula, but still not transferring students into the funding formula. So, why they would transfer to and not the third one that's clearly called for um I don't know. I still haven't listened to the whole meeting um to see if there was any further discussion. Um, but this would be great for funding for gifted students around the state because currently the grant process only one in nine Montana school districts even complies for it, which means nearly every school district is not um getting funding to help make sure that the needs of these students are met. So anyway, um I'm here to let you

know that that's where that process is. Um there's maybe a time to hope, but maybe not. So who knows? um if you feel so inclined to let them know your opinion about that um it's pretty easy to do so on the school funding interim commission website um through the legislature. So, and if anybody ever has questions about this process, I'm happy to answer whatever questions they might have or point you in the right direction. >> Thank you. >> Anybody else? We will go into the approval of the March 23rd regular board meeting minutes. If there are no changes or corrections, I entertain a motion. >> We approve the March 23rd regular board meeting. Second. >> Thank you. >> All in favor? >> I I >> opposed. Okay. And now we get a wonderful presentation from

>> Thank you for listening. >> Are there any questions or comments for this crew? They're willing to answer anything. >> So, great job you guys. Thanks for coming. And parents, thank you for for getting them here. You're welcome to stay for the rest of the meeting, but if you would like to go with your kids right now, that is completely fine as well. You can feel free to do that. Okay. Do we have scholarship and education foundation? >> No, we do. >> We have another group here, Mr. D. >> Okay, you're up. So I just wanted to mention that when I asked that group of students to share um I asked them to write about the eight strands of scar broke and science of reading and how that impacted their reading success at Cherry Valley.

So they originally had four pages of reports of data to present but they said Mr. G for the sake of time we make current moment we're at 353 we're still going up a little bit and stay steady in other grades. Um, as you saw, second grade got to go to Lungvine and they've been doing Students in Good Standing. That's been great. The first grade Cinderella ball. The kids had a great time with that. Um, Miss Sherry's son, Jack, and one of our cheerleaders, >> Emma was Prince Charming and Cinderella. So, another cross connection with BHS there. Um, and then the first grade just started nutrition lessons this month, which is great. Um, kindergarten has been doing Dr. activities throughout the month of March. So, those were fun to watch. And then we had kindergarten last

week. Uh kindergarten round up last week and we had um 40 students come through and register. We got them all taken care of. So, with the 40 students um registered at kindergarten roundup and the 22 coming up for Miss Kenisonson's classroom and about 12 coming up for Mrs. Peterson's classroom, we're sitting at about 72 74 kids. Um which is kind of where we were at this time last year. So, it's about the same. Um, we're expanding our program uh for LEAP next year. So, we'll have two full-time programs. Spread the word. We don't have very many kids signed up for the roundup this week um this Friday. So, um we're going to try to get kids registered and we'll keep trying to get those. So, we'll be able to service 36 kids um which will

be great. Now, the arts is coming up on the 23rd. So, like uh Sophia said, come by and check out all the great things that are happening at Cherry Valley. And uh yeah, we're just finishing up the year. Got the MDER cultural celebration going on. We're going to be up at the standing arrow pow grounds with Linderman. And it was a huge success last year. Looking forward to it again this year. So, uh anybody and everybody's welcome to come up to that. That'll be on June 1st throughout the entire day. So, you can swing in, stop for a little bit. Um, yeah, that's all I got. So, thanks again for having the kids. They were excited to be here. >> Any questions for me? >> Thank you. >> Okay. >> Um, so we had a

few field trips this last um month in March. have to think about what month it was. Our fourth graders went to the museum, the Misable Art Museum, and they actually um a a um Native American artist and um writer was was um highlighted and they were they were given some lessons. It was really cool. Our fifth graders went to Spectrum Science Center at the Missou public library. I don't know if if you have children, it's a fabulous place to take your take your kids and and our kids really enjoyed it. Um the fifth graders were just really um inspired and and food and a some of the activities they had. Our third graders also started some nutrition classes. Um we had the pirate trading card program. I know somebody highlighted it last last month, but

um we are, you know, I didn't really know how fifth graders were going to respond to it. Um you know, just thinking that they might be too cool for it, but they really weren't. They really um we the high school students got in a circle and our kids went in the middle and they just kind of went around and really got the signatures and our kids all of our kids just loved it. Um, we have mass testing that has been going on throughout the year, but we have a big crowd in March. So, it for any questions. >> Thank you. Thank you. Uh we're still working on hiring new staff and working on our instructional schedule for the 26 27th school year. Uh we added the social studies interviews. We just got through a round

of art interviews and have some really a really really great candidate. So we're holding out on that one. Um, we were racking our brains this year trying to model something that Cherry Valley and Linderman were doing for attendance incentives and really ours our point of contention has been tardies and kids not being class on time. So, we're running attendance wars at the middle school um grade levels competing against each other for number of students arriving to class on time. So, we'll run that every two weeks from now until the fourth quarter. Um, and they're just starting to catch on to it. We're going into our second week this week of it and they're starting to figure out, oh, we want if we're in class on time, then our thermometers fill up. So, there's been a

little bit of chatter amongst the kids in the hallway about that. So, we'll give them an extra recess and some treats for the whole grade level. Uh, track has 125 athletes uh participating this year and they all seem to be having a really good time. So, I think that they're going to stick with it and finish the season strong. Um, I was just talking to Teresa and Haley Moley's, one of the coaches, and she said they were so well behaved at the first track meet last week, like at a really good showing for Pson Middle School. So, that's really exciting um for them. I tried to get off the ground see a parent teacher committee. Um, so they're holding monthly meetings and they're starting to get some traction and get a lot of parent involvement.

Um, and they're taking over our teacher celebration for teacher appreciation week. Um they're taking on the concession stands for middle school track meet which is very exciting as a fundraiser for them and then we've had a couple consistent moms volunteering on Fridays into coming into school and helping with lots of different projects and activities. So it's been fun to have them involved back in back in school again. So any questions for me? All right, things are going well at the high school. Um, quick activities update. Sean is not here tonight. Uh, but spring sports are off to a great start. Uh, softball just beat White finished pretty handily on Saturday twice. That was exciting. Good to see um beat Browning as well. Baseball has a we're in a really tough conference for for baseball. Um,

but we're battling for sure and I think things will continue to to go well. We have home games for baseball and softball now tomorrow. Um, so a good chance to come support our athletes. Track, we don't have those numbers, but we do have very strong numbers for track as well. There there have been some great individual performances for that. And tennis is is really solid again this year, too. So, lots of great things happening. Um, partic uh Trusty Cox had asked at the last meeting about participation data. We'll present that at the next meeting hopefully with some middle school data as well. Kind of a more comprehensive look at all of that. Uh so that'll be coming at the main meeting which is also going to be up at the high school. I'm super excited

to show you all the new construction. Uh so we're going to meet in the library at the high school and then we'll do a tour after that. But things are coming along nicely with the upstairs bathrooms. I feel like making really great progress with those. Uh the cafeteria flooring got done over spring break. So, if you happen to be at the high school, stop down there and see the beautiful new flooring there. Um, and addition is coming along as well. Car pursuits update. Uh, today was a big presentation day. I feel like we had probably about 30 students present today. It is really fun to listen to the kids take pride in what they've done for their pirate pursuit project. We're through about 70 of our 105ish seniors at this point. So, we're making really

good progress and it's not even midappril. So, feeling good about that. Um, and they've done some great things. We're going to have some of them come present to you at the May board meeting. So, you'll be able to hear some of their experiences. And the last thing I was going to highlight, um, one of our focus areas is preparing students for postsecary success and readiness. These extended classroom experiences, otherwise known as field trips, are a really great way for our students to explore their interests. So, I just highlighted some. These are all happening this week and next week. So, a lot going on, but we had the district music festival this past weekend. Our students did amazingly. I actually got to go out for one of the afternoons and it was really fun to watch

that. Montana Contractors Association, M World Language Day, just all these different career fairs, college fairs. So, lots of different opportunities for our students to expand their opportunity knowledge and get our kids out in the community. So, that's kind of all I have for today. Any questions? All right. I think you have just a basic list of what everybody's seniors are doing for their projects. Just like a one line. >> Y curious to see what >> Yeah, I'll probably wait until they've all presented just because a few of them kind of change throughout the year. So, just to get you an accurate list, but yeah, and we put together kind of a slideshow each year too of different pictures and everything like that. So, we can definitely provide some for you. It's pretty fun because this

year I feel like they've chosen things related to their interests and there's lots of variation too which is really fun to see. So yeah, definitely. >> Thank you. >> Okay, super. >> Okay, just a couple quick updates. Um Miss Wade just mentioned this, but um we would like to have the the board meeting in May at the high school and the library. The purpose of that is to show off the new library space, which is mostly finished, but then also to provide trustees and anyone in attendance an opportunity to tour through the new addition. It's not 100% complete, but it's definitely in a place where it's going to make for a good tour and get you in that space to see all of those things. It feels like as soon as we come back from

spring break, it's a race to the finish line. So, things are happening fast in all of our schools right now. We're trying to wrap up staffing as some of the principles have mentioned, and we're getting really close. I'm very excited about the individuals that we've been able to offer positions to so far. We have a few to go. Um, but we we've done a really good job of filling the holes that we had and making sure that we're prepared for next year. And then the last thing, we're spending quite a bit of time, Deb's spending quite a bit of time wrapping up some audit requirements right now, but preparing the budget for next year. Um, so we'll make sure that we bring that information to you when we have it. We're also looking at end

of year data and and reflecting on what went this year starting to build our PD plan for next year. And then construction updates. A lot happened over spring break since we met last. Um, a lot is still happening. I think one exciting piece is at Cherry Valley. The the let's call it the island barricade or the sidewalk that's between the Cherry Valley School and the parking lot should be finished by the end of this week. And they intend to reopen that space early next week and hopefully shrink down the construction zone. fencing so that we had a larger parking area back. So, that was a pretty quick turnaround. Um, it's definitely been disruptive having that construction fence up, but it'll be a significant improve improvement for safety. Any questions for me? >> Okay, thank you.

>> Okay, facilities do >> nothing policy. >> Not at this time. negotiations. >> Transportation. >> Nothing at this time. >> Evaluation calendar. Uh, the only thing I would mention, um, I wanted to, and Andy, you might you might know more of the details than I than I do, but, um, I did want to, one of the things that was mentioned was the the trading card kids program. Um, I know, uh, that's a program that's supported by um, Eric Civroode at Rocky Mountain Print Solutions in Missoula, and they've they've worked with us to allow us to print those cards up. So, anytime, you know, we're building partnerships with alumni or different, you know, businesses that are supporting our kids, I want to make sure we we call those out and and recognize that that support. >>

Yeah. Thank you, Kevin. Um, a lot of the on ground level work is completed by Mr. Delo and Mr. Oakland and they do a lot of the photographs and design of the cards, but it's all it's all made possible as Trusty Cox said by donors that cover all of the costs of those trading cards. So that's that's a really neat opportunity that's done through that. So thanks Mr. Cox. >> Anything else on that? >> No, thank you. >> Okay, thank you. Okay, report. Okay. So, here's, you know, the listing of my normal monthly list of expenditures. Again, I kind of was just giving an update on our current. We have some utilities. Um, we have some enrollment. One of our enrollment platforms for Power School is annually comes due. Um, we had a a middle

school scoreboard that we repaired or replaced >> replaced um this year. again LPW and swank our grocery seeds tax and then we had the the web present I believe it was last month um we have web here >> this is just an example that boomerang project that is funded by the reads grant that those additional teachers are training on for those webs and that's what that expenditure is there and then we had some grant funding from our Perkins grant that Mr. Samson runs for the for a CNC machine at the high school that just work their way through the through the system. Um so our budget versus actual right now are pretty consistent to prior month. You know 94% right now on our general funds which is in alignment with most years. Um, we're working

through the end of the payroll, end of school payrolls now and we'll be getting finishing out all of our ordering and there are payrolls and so then we'll see where we end and then if I have to do any going to impact aid I'm hoping not but I think we're fine right now. Transportation is doing is looking good for they're only at 64% right now but we do have end of year payrolls that come into play. Bus appreciation we haven't purchased any buses this year. tuition fund and adult add are about in line and then our flex fund that is uh Miss Wade's grant uh building reserve and food service food service is the one that worries me the most typically at every year because we just it just depends on how much food increases

each year on us and we always estimate and then we try to stay within but that's always the one that always gives me a little in China other than that we are consistent on board with where we are everywhere else. The other thing I was going to update the board on is um like Mr. B says, we're working through audit right now. So, there's lots of audit entry. We've got some questions from the auditor. He's hoping to have the audit done by the end of the month. So, I'm hoping to have it for the next board meeting. Uh we're working through our continue to work through the conversion with Tyler. So, we've we've been working through the the financial system. We've got most of that up. We've been working through HR. Andy has helped us

a lot with um getting some of the evaluations going and the job out so on and so forth. Now we're going to be working on contracts after this board meeting um to try to get those out before people are gone and time clock system is coming into play as well as the new sub system. So we have lots of things going on out of our office right now. What I got have some change but it'll be fine. Any questions? Let me know. >> Thank you. Okay. Consent agenda. No changes or corrections. I would entertain a motion. >> I move we approve the consent agenda as submitted. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Any following discussion? All in favor? Okay. oppose. Okay, thank you. Um, approval of among you for the GT teacher position. >> Okay,

thank you. Um, I would like to to start by thanking Miss Ally. She's in the room and Miss Dolly. We we've worked together as a as a team and a lot of other people have had influence on kind of where we are today. But what is in front of you is a recommendation to approve anou between the union and and the school board um to put into place an agreement we can call it with our GT teacher. So she would move to a part-time position that is self-funded. Um thisou allows her to retain her seniority and tenure with the district. Um this is a mutual agreement. Miss Ally was offered a full-time position. we worked through kind of what fits best to continue to serve her and and for her to allow to be be

allowed to be enroll students and this is what we landed on. So it's in front of you tonight for your approval theou is and then the second document there is just a little bit more detailed agreement um that she signs on for with what her placement will be next year for teaching. Any questions for any of that? >> I move we approve the GT teacher decision. >> Comments, questions or discussion? All in favor? I >> I >> oppose. >> Okay. Um approval of out of state travel as a middle school. >> Well, this is for our um eighth grade trip to Silverwoods. We approved it last year taking approximately 90 it says 93 eighth grade students. There are some stipulations. They have to meet some behavior requirements. They can't have any like disciplinary issues or

call it substance abuse that like babies on campus and that disqualifies them from going. We have a great group of eighth grade teachers looking forward to take them. I don't mean to make >> keeps not >> so I move we approve the state travel school >> second >> thank you any comments or questions or discussion all in favor I opposed. Okay. Approval of remployment of administrators. >> Okay. Thank you. Oops. The list isn't popping up. Hopefully, you can see it on your end. Uh the administration recommends approval of remployment of administrators. If you need me to pull that list up, I can. It's just not popping up right now. I move we approve the remployment administrators. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any comments, questions, or discussion? All in favor? I >> I >> opposed. Okay.

Approval of a reimment of tenure certified staff. Okay. Administration recommends the approval of reappoint of tenure certified staff. >> This list goes on to two pages. >> The tenure certified staff. >> Second. >> Thank you. Questions, comments, or discussion? All in >> favor? I >> I >> opposed. Okay. Approval of remployment of non-tenure certified staff. >> Okay. Thank you. Administration recommends approval of remployment of non-tenured certified staff. The asterisk on the sheet would note those individuals that would receive tenure. with the approval of this list. >> I move we approve the reemployment non >> second. >> Okay. Questions or comments? All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Okay. Thank you. Approval of the remployment of nonrepresented employees. >> Okay. Thank you. Administration recommends the approval of reemployment of non-represented employees. >> I move to approve

the employment of nonrepresented sub. I'll second. >> Thank you. >> Questions or comments? All in favor? >> I oppose. >> Okay. Approval of reasonable assurance for classified employees. >> Thank you. Administration recommends approval of reasonable assurance for continue. >> We can't because she was employed prior to this. So that was one thing we learned. >> It's only on initial hires. >> Yeah. Initial hire. Okay. He's been abstaining for years >> to approve the reasonable assurance of classified employees. >> I second. >> Thank you. >> Questions or comments? >> All in favor? >> I >> Okay, we're almost there. Approval of elementary personnel reports. >> Okay, thank you. Do administration recommend the trustes approve the elementary personnel report? >> I move we approve the elementary personnel report as submitted. >> Second. I'm not fast enough with

this mute button. >> Great. >> Thank you. Uh comments or questions? All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Okay. >> Nope. >> Okay. We didn't have any um high school personnel and there's no other district at this time, but those will those will start coming in as we start opening up for next year. >> Okay. All right. We're going to adjourn. Thank you all for coming.
