labor. So >> fingers crossed. >> Were you late last time or early? >> Um my due date. >> Were you really? >> My first was like the day after. >> Wow. You're just like right on. >> Yeah. >> That's amazing. Seems like I'm supposed to have it on this day. So, I'm going to shall we call this meeting to order. >> Okay. Aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Well, I'm glad you made it. And I hope it's an easy delivery for you. We were thinking that she was going to have to approve the minutes without having been here. You want to make a motion to accept the approval of minutes? >> I make a

motion to approve the minutes of meeting. >> Okay. Minutes of the monthly meeting. That was it. Approval of expenditures. I can. Okay. Okay. I'll make a motion to approve the payroll at $48,498.84, the claims at $17,455.95, and the activities at $13,428. Okay. So moved >> public presentations communications reports. Well, skiing has been at the top most of the list. Our first skiing lessons was last Thursday. >> How's the snow up there? >> Snow is excellent. >> The computer system is brand new at this hill as well as they've gone to computer chips, RFID cards. Um, so that was all new and we were one of the first schools to go this year. Um, so it was a big learning curve. Um, >> did the tickets get scanned or something? >> So now they give you

a little card and if you lose them, you have to pay. >> Did you keep all the cards for all the kids or did you have to have them? >> They had to have all the kids going up on the lift. >> So now they scan the person to go on the lift. No more stickers like how it has been since the beginning of time. >> Yeah. >> Crazy. >> So a lot of paperwork and whatnot, but we had a great day and we're going again this Thursday. >> Third and fourth grade are going to the symphony on January 30th. They've been invited there. No school coming up on Monday the 19th. Um and the holiday program and the literacy event went great. Very well attended. Um we're doing MAPS testing at the end of

the month um for winter benchmark. Um I think I talked last month we've been selected for 8th grade for NATE testing. So that's a national department of education test. So I've been working on that a lot of data entry on my end for the department of education without test kids. >> Wow. >> Is that going to benefit you in other ways? >> Just just >> to be honest. >> Okay. >> Um I've arranged with the fire department Missoula world to come out February 2nd and they're actually going to do classes with different age groups and they're going to show the older kids how to a fire extinguisher. >> Yeah. >> Uh Special Olympics Polar Plunge will be coming up February 21st. So that's going to be at the fairgrounds again this year. So anyone that

wants to come down and see people jump into a giant pool of ice. Come on down. Uh Deputy Chris, our own SRO, apparently has said he'll do it. And so do they raise money for that too, right? >> So we've got more kids this year that have signed up. So last year we uh raised quite a bit over $1,000 for Special Olympics just our woodland group. So >> fantastic cause and I used to do it when I was younger. I don't know. The kids been asking me. I don't know if I can do it anymore. >> Depends on how warm it is on the 21st. >> Well, that's true. I mean, we have 50° weather today. >> 50°. They do have a hot tub you can go in >> afterwards. >> Yes. >> Or instead

of >> No, that would be different, wouldn't it? >> Afterwards. >> Oh, okay. >> Um, I want to give you a heads up for the next board meeting. Um, that I'm going to be asking your permission to take middle schoolers to um Idaho like we did last year to the science and physics field trip. Silverwood Park. That was a real hit last year. Um, so I'm gonna ask you again next month. >> Um, >> is that sixth through eight or fifth through eight? >> Well, this year we're going to do fifth through eight. We did six through eight last year >> because they're in the same class. Okay. >> So, we decided we'll just take the fifth graders in the same class. Yep. >> How many does that >> How many kids is it? >>

Oh, well, that's some news. It's actually going to be starting tomorrow. We're getting a new in district student. >> Okay, cool. >> And uh we have uh today if approved one more remote student. >> So that'll bring with those two a total up to 53 students >> including four three. So our numbers are going up. >> Um and then some big news for you guys. I recently had a meeting with our lawyer and she wanted me to know to pass on uh that she has a whole bunch of policy revisions that she's going to be putting out uh this month for next month. So >> that will pass it on. So be ready for a little bit of reading. >> Okay. >> Um and with that also she is wanting all the districts that she

represents to change uh procedures for volunteers. Um and drafting a volunteer handbook. >> So what that looks like is that she is um her recommendation is to have volunteers back. >> So that'll be a big change for like field trips. >> Any volunteers for anything that does >> anything where there's even a chance >> Yeah. Well, that they might be alone. field trips, things like that. Um, a parent just coming in and talking to the class as a whole group, that wouldn't necessarily have to be done. But, um, like a parent, if they were volunteered to read with a student, they'd have to go back >> or drive them somewhere. >> Well, >> we shouldn't have anyone driving. That's actually >> I said extreme emergency. >> Okay. situation. >> It primarily will affect the >>

Yeah. So changes, but this goes back to state law changes. >> So if the kids were going to if the I think that was so if they were going into a sport like out at Target Range, the parents themselves would take them. If my son was there, it would be up between me and the woman or whatever father taken in that. So yeah, stay tuned for that. Uh facilities, we did some work um had some workers and myself working over break. We installed a new window in the library that's been on back order that was broken. So there's a brand new window there. uh did a bunch of other small things. We reattached these lockers out here. Um gosh, a bunch of bunch of little things. We hung new banners. Um today I had the

security company working on the security alarm system. So we've had a little bit of work done. Is the security alarm system now? >> Adequate is a great word. >> Yeah, it's fairly out of date. It's working. So, adequate I think is a good >> description. One of the big things we'll talk more about when we talk about safety, but it's cameras to the cameras. So, there's definitely updates to make, but I'm keeping everything maintained and everything is in working order. >> That's good. >> For our parent meeting, uh we did a t-shirt fundraiser and that ended. Um so getting some t-shirts um ordered. I was working on ordering that right before the meeting. Uh we talked about spring fundraising and the parent group um the folks that came wanted to do a catalog sale again.

So we'll do that over spring break this year. that did raise quite a bit of money. Um, so for example, uh, it's only 10, we only charge $10 per kid to go skiing and per day. And really, it would be $60 per kid per day if we didn't do the fundraiser. >> And even $60 a day is a huge discount. Wow. >> For students, I mean, prices have gone up. So, you know, >> normally cost for a ticket. >> Well, for rentals and tickets, hundreds. >> It's an expensive. >> It is. I guess it's always been. >> Yeah. >> But I mean, they cut us a a great deal. And then we really when we I started doing this fundraiser, that's one of the things I dropped down in price for parents because that's one

of the biggest fees we were charging. >> Okay. >> And then, of course, helping pay for all the other cool field trips we do. And then we talked about doing a popcorn fundraiser next school year in the fall. That's what we've got. Any questions? Okay. General purpose there. Uh, order of business, Montana reads literacy grant. >> So, lots going on with the grant. Um, Jessica and I worked over a break getting the whole budget revised and amended to include all the new money that came in. So, that has finally come in after many months of delay. Um, so we got all that done and budgeted for the rest of this year. Jill and I went to an OPI meeting today. Um they were having about two to three meetings a month for us to attend.

So quite a few meetings and uh we started the second uh winter benchmark for dibbles which is our literacy um screener and assessment that we do just for literacy. started with kindergarten today on that and Jill's starting um meet in the middle for that. Um we are waiting for the state of Montana and OPI to release all the paperwork for curriculum adoption. They said they're going to be making a whole bunch of paperwork for us to review to be able to do that process. Um, so I'm holding off um until we get that. Um, but then the next step is we will form a committee to review and offer recommendations to the board. I'm hoping to make the order by May of this year because I want to get enough time this summer for all

the materials to come and the teachers to get training. Um, I have already ordered samples. You might be wondering what why does this look like a store display? Well, um, these are some of the samples and whatnot. So I've ordered everything ahead of time, but I'm waiting for OPI to make all their checklists and what they want because there's only certain things that we can. >> So, those are the ones you can choose from right there. Do you have others? >> There's others. >> So, this is just one company. This is another. This is another. And I've got some in the shed. Um, but the ones in the shed, I'm not sure that they're going to meet the state criteria for the science of reading. These are three right here that I know will meet

the criteria. Um, a lot of them, um, they're going to be pretty picky about, um, what would the cut or not a lot of it's just based if it meets all the criteria for the science of this research. So stay tuned on that. Uh, when we do form the committee, I'm hoping to have one board member on the committee as well as I know I've got some parents interested in some teachers. >> Stay tuned on that. And that's what I've got for the grant. >> All right. School safety. >> Yeah. So, I've been busy working on safety things. Um, oh, one of the things we had done is that free sample of that extra door lock that I showed you. I had installed on one of the doors in building one after the meeting. I

can show that to folks if you're interested. And then we'll need to if we want to get more of those for the lock down areas. One tricky thing is that building two here and building three are cement slabs. So, they would have to derail them into the cement, which can be done, but it's a little bit more tricky. So, I started with wood over in building one and can show that to folks. Um, another thing that I've done is I have invited the Montana Safe Schools um, organization out to do a site assessment and they're going to be on site February 6 and they're going to go through the entire facility and offer recommendations to us, seeing how secure things are, if there's anything we need to change. And that um, that organization was set

up by the legislature and they have money just to do this. no charge to us. >> Um, and uh, that's going to be information as well as other information I'm gathering and make a new updated safety plan for the district. >> Does that help in insurance? >> It might. Um today on the agenda I do have anou with Lolo schools and I've talked to them about using them as a offsite evacuation if we were need to evacuate the school such as if there was a wildfire or whatnot. Um we could easily fit like in their small gym and the parents could come there and we could easily you know get all the parents the kids back to the parents and whatnot at that site. Um come up is our bus runs from Missoula and this

comes up from time to time that they're having to travel daily from Missoula. Um I've talked to Eden before and Jay um you know before that about using the ranch you know being able to walk across the street use that as a safe spot if it's very localized to you know our building. Um, but the one question that comes up is what if Highway 12 was closed? Um, which would be a very rare occurrence, but it could happen that there's a forest fire that way and we need to go this way and what if we needed to go further away than the ranch and whatnot. Um, so there's not a huge amount of facilities that way. And the biggest problem will be transportation because if it's closed, unless the bus happens to be here. We're

not going to have a bus. We could probably we could load quite a few kids in an emergency into staff vehicles, but probably not all of them. So, that wouldn't be ideal. Um, so that would be >> Leave the troubled kids here while you go. >> Well, luckily we really don't luckily we really don't have any J, so we're pretty blessed in that regard. Um, we'd have to be calling the few folks that live beyond to come. >> That's always providing there's telephone and stuff. You could always call neighbors could come help. Um, I could pursue formal a formal memoou with um I'm thinking Jack or if we needed to go even further the lockd or to the county line for me. Um there's the ranger station kind of the visitor center but I don't

know that they're open all the time. If there's a fire, it might be the fire, >> but I could certainly pursue that if we want a formal agreement. >> So, with the first choice be to run to the OZ if it's something local and then if it needs to go beyond there to the jack or something should have something just in the event. >> We've had that road closed the vice gems and stuff. >> So, it'll be pretty easy to talk to the Jack >> in case. Bathrooms are a big one. >> Huge. Um I went to the county emergency planning meeting um last week actually and one great thing is that uh county emergency um planning coordinator was there and he's actually working on a plan to have anou for schools for major facilities

in the county um such as the fairgrounds and some of the major churches. Um so if it was this whole end of the county and we needed to They're actually going to do something where we can sign and all the schools can so we're not having to do individual use. Um it have to be a pretty big event at Lobo school and us would be affected. Even I remember forest fires logo school was still open and had fire personnel at it and stuff. It's good to be prepared in case of anything. So >> Scott always said you put the um He wanted to put fire camp on his property because they never let the fire burn down. >> The truth to that. >> Yeah. >> Well, the good thing about the ranch, I mean, there's

also the highway divided creek, too. So, if it was something like right on the hill up here, that'd be a great first start to at least get the highway and the creeks between us. Yeah, >> but yeah, continuing to work on all this and work on planning as well as working with all the other school districts in the county. >> Okay. Is that it on school safety >> for now? Yes. >> Okay. Out of district students. >> So, we have one remote student for a kindergartener. I had a few more called with interest, but they didn't put the paperwork in. I made it real clear just the name and the grade in the whole district. >> So, kindergarten that'll be like online kindergarten. Who would have ever thought? >> Seems like it sucks the fun

out of kindergarten. I have had calls about next year for in person quite a few let people know the procedure and they'll pay the work. So there's definitely more interest >> in person. Are they in district or >> out of district? >> They're out of district >> primarily local district. >> Okay. Well, that sounds good, huh? >> Okay. So, do we need to vote on this little kindergarter? >> Just vote to approve the out of district. >> Okay. Yeah, I'll I'll make a motion to approve the out. >> Okay. The out of district student for the second semester. So was that it? I thought you you said you had another inerson student. >> So we have an in district in person. >> We don't need to vote on >> Well, is it like related or

totally new? Is it any relation to any of the students that are here? from >> No, from >> Oh, from Cool. >> All right. >> 53. >> That's awesome. >> We've been quite some time. >> That's awesome. Okay, new business. The general fund budget amendment >> which is related. So, our numbers have gone up so high, they've asked us to redo our budget to give us more money. >> Positively, we're gonna The action is to approve that they give us more money. >> Approve resolution. Yeah. The budget amendment resolution. >> Okay. Um got >> it kind of the letter attached kind of goes through the details as to what what this process is. >> Okay. >> Yeah. This is something OPI looks at all the school districts after fall count and compares it to the

previous year's numbers, see who qualifies, who doesn't, then they send out these lovely letters. >> Um then we have till March to accept it or say no thank you, we don't want more money. Okay. >> Um, >> so what's the budget amendment expenditure line 101? >> So that's just a very generic line. So 101 is the general fund. So this is strictly money for the general fund. >> Um 100 is also just the generic student, >> okay, >> expenditures. And then I did the XXXs. So we can spend it on salaries, we can spend it on supplies, we can spend it on whatever we find the need to spend it on. What will happen is I will send them the signed um resolution and they will OPI will then assign a project reporter code to

this money. So when I do the trustes report next August um any money that is part of this 20,787 will have an extra little number attached to the to the expenditure coding um that signifies that it's the part of this money that's being spent. Um and so yeah. >> Does this money have to be spent in one year? >> Yes, it does. >> It does. >> Yeah. If we we will make sure it's spent by the end of >> We actually have a multi-istric account if we were to end up with money not spent that we share with school district. So we can actually as a board make a vote move unspent money into the multi- district account >> and then we would not lose it. that up last year. >> Yeah. All right. So,

okay. I could try to work this out here. Um I'll make a motion to approve the resolution. >> Yep. Budget amendment resolution. >> Budget amendment resolution. >> You can include the amount if you want to, but All in favor. >> Okay. I >> Okay. So move and memo of understanding. Um, so I have drafted a memorandum of understanding with Lolo School and that's just a legal document that protects all of us in their district. Um, that they're not going to be charging us for use of the facility, but if there was damage done by us that we would pay for it and that they for sure would have space available for us in emergency. Um, so this is a draft. What would happen next? to sign um is that Jan would sign it. I'd send

it to Lolo school district. It'd have to go to their board. They might come back and say, "Well, actually, we want you to change this or whatot, a pretty standard agreement. The template was originally drafted by just Hopefully we never have to use it. >> We just need to essentially accept this >> motion to accept Second. I agree. All in favor of say I. >> I. So. >> Okay. Nothing else. >> We're saving up for policies next time. >> Yeah. >> Send them out as soon as you get them so we can start reading them. >> Yeah. >> I've not seen them and I don't know how many. Just a heads up that they're coming in and the new handbook. Um I I will tell you One great thing is that our lawyer via she

writes a lot less than the Montana School Board Association. So they write about 10 times the amount of policies that she does. Um so she she is much more brief and consolidates more than the other big policy writers for the state. >> All right. Okay. The meeting is adjourned. Next regular meeting February 9th. >> Is that your birthday?
