[clears throat] Any further discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor indicate by saying I. I. Those opposed, nay. Eyes have it. The board revision, the budget revision has been passed. Thank you, Mr. Lawson. >> All right. Next, we have board policy 4160. >> Thank you. So, this um we brought this policy to you at the work session last Monday, and I think after some other conversation, discussion, there might have been some requests for some other um language. So, I want to share with you this evening some modified language uh before approving this policy. And again, this is

to address our graduation rate because we are um taking some hits from students who are duly enrolled. And so, you can see the changes in red on the screen. I think we originally had suggested that they finish before the end of their first semester of their senior year. But in order to make it fair for athletic reasons and different reasons, we um have changed the language where they would not be able to begin their senior year with dually enrolled if they choose to graduate from another school other than the Burke County Public Schools. >> Thank you. Did we agree that this was going to start effective immediately? >> It would have to be for next school year since some students are already doing enrolled for this. >> But we're not but we're not grandfathering people

in like we discussed. >> I don't think we're grandfathering for second semester is my understanding. >> That's correct. It will begin um for the second [clears throat] semester of the 2526 school year and then it'll take full effect for the 26 27 school year beginning [clears throat] first semester and second semester >> and that's because we already have juniors. >> Yeah, we already have seniors already started with us right now that are that fit that category. >> Okay, so for clarification, this [clears throat] is uh Dr. Swan, Dr. Utton um and potentially Dr. Abernathy, we are most likely going to take a hit to our graduation rate for this upcoming school year. >> This year, >> we're I believe we're looking around six students potentially >> if we grandfathered them in. But if we don't

grandfather, then we should alleviate. >> Yeah, we should recoup those hits. So, >> so okay to your point, Dr. Abernathy, if if we go ahead and approve this tonight with the amended language, would we still have those conversations with the potentially impacted students, letting them know that a decision needs to be made before the end of the second semester? >> Yes. If this gets approved tonight, our team, uh, Miss Kerpatrick and Dr. Abernati will begin making those calls along with the high school principles this week once we identify those students >> so that a decision will be made in 2025. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> What we're saying to them is if they want to graduate from their home school, they need to go back by the semester. >> Correct. >> Yeah. >> They won't.

and and the big reason they they will not obtain enough high school credits from a traditional setting in order to be counted as a high school graduate based on the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction standards. >> I believe I heard a motion to approve by Mr. Beck. >> I'll second that with the added language here. >> Okay. So, your motion is with the amended language. I'm sorry. >> All right. And then Mr. Johnson is a second to that. Do we have any further discussion? All right. All those in favor indicate by saying I. Those opposed nay. Eyes have it. Thank you. Dr. Swan, Dr. Odin, and Dr. Abernathy. Do we have need for close session tonight? >> Awesome sauce. All right. Do we have a motion to adjurnn? >> Motion by Mr. Beck. Do

we have a second? >> Second by Mrs. Rocky. All those in favor indicate by saying I. I. Those opposed, nay. Eyes have it. The meeting is adjourned. Thank you everyone.
