My little brother. Good evening. I'd like to call this regular meeting of the Jamestown Public School Board to order. It is Monday, March 2nd, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the Thompson Community Room at the middle school. Please join me in the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, liberty and justice for all. We'd like to welcome all those in the audience that are joining us this evening. Does the board have any new conflicts of interest to declare? Any new conflicts of interest? New conflicts of interest. Okay. If not, moving on. Schoolboard norms. Jacob, would you be willing to read the school board norms? >> Yep. The board developed norms are to share and
respect opinions and speak with a united voice once a decision has been reached. Execute all duties of the school board in compliance with the North Dakota Century Code. Properly prepare for meetings. Commit to assessing board effectiveness and ensure high quality governance for all stakeholders. >> Thank you, Jacob. We have no public communication. Moving on for our consent agenda. Would the board like anything removed or clarified in the consent agenda? Anything removed or to? If not, is there a motion? Motion by Melissa to approve the consent agenda. Is there a second? >> Second by Jamie. Have a motion, a second for approval of the consent agenda. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, assuming roll call vote, all those in favor say I. I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion carried. Moving into our regular meeting, we
have nothing under recognition or correspondence or reports. The strategic plan progress monitoring dashboard is there for your information. Any questions on that at this time? Okay. If not, moving into board education, we have overview of non-academic skills. Mr. Connell, please join us. Are you going to plug me in? No. should be connecting. Doesn't like it. Try it again. Hey, now we got it. Cool. First want to thank everybody for allowing me to come and speak. I had the opportunity to speak on uh non-academic skills and I'm looking at specifically what we're doing here at JMS. I'm Justin Connell. I'm the assistant principal here at the middle school and this is kind of like right in my wheelhouse. It's uh everything I do in a day. So, um I have some room for questions but feel
free to ask throughout and um or you can save them till the end. I've got a little bubble at the end for questions. So the J uh the JPS strategic plan where we're coming for here is um Jamestown Public Schools established align monitor and report priority non-academic skills. The goal is 100% publication. Um I'm proud to say that JMS has had ours public published for since 2017 2018. So we've kind of worked through and we call them our expectations or our citizenship. um you're going to see it from our lens very behaviorally because that's kind of the age group that we're at is we're learning these behaviors so that we can be career ready um as we get into high school through high school and into college. Um so the goal is to have that
done by the beginning of 2026 and we're very happy to say that we're we're in it and we're we're even implementing a little bit this year. So why the non-academic skills the accreditation cogn cognia expects it um the workforce expects it you know you people expect it value added for inerson learning uh it may look different um across our grade levels or even our teams so we're looking to streamline that make that a little more consistent so that students you know they have more consistency throughout um throughout the day throughout their years from class to class and grade to grade publication for consistency and transparency and then philosophical speifically it's important to us with our standardsbased learning. So some of the steps that we're taking publication again that's the current goal where we're where we
have been living is the implementation side of it. Um I've asked our staff and I'll I'll hold that up but to really look at the citizenship and how the students are doing and then we're able to um publish that to parents um through our clear rubrics and I'll hold that up. I guess the wherever the camera's at. I thought this was a nice one here. I have this again later, but this is the expectation grid that's gone through a few iterations. It's you can't see it, but it's stapled on the bottom. So, we even have our old one on the back so that it's easier for reference, but um we're kind of in 2.0 or 3.0 of our expectations grid. So, that's part of what we're looking at as a clear rubrics. Um we have
the opportunity in team time to calibrate to discuss you know that in our teams we have the same students throughout all class periods and we have those te those teachers have times to get together and talk about where where our students lie and what some of the needs may be moving forward. And then behaviors versus skill development. Again we're kind of in that behavior stage. When I go through some of these you'll notice well hey you know they're very behavior driven. Um, but developmentally that's that's kind of where we're at. So if if you've ever I hear the phrase, I don't know how you do it every day. I say that's just because that's the world we live in. That's we were meant to be in the middle school and that's where we're at. So
uh monitoring reporting is something that we need to key in on a little better I believe. And um this is something that we're working towards in our MTSSB uh reflections. We are not new to MTSSB which is multi-tiered systems of support. the B for behavior. Uh but we are kind of refining looking at are there things that we got away from um or is there stuff that we kind of need to adjust and and change with either the times or what our population's asking us. So the the soft skills, if you will, the non-academics that we we are kind of keying in on are the critical thinking, the social emotional, um the time management. Those are the key the key ones that you'll see on the grid. I can click into this. And the three
that you'll see if uh if you've got a middle schooler and you're looking through their uh report, you'll see responsibility. Oops. You'll see respectful and safe. Underneath responsible, respectful, and safe, we have nine items that we are looking at um and that currently we are assessing weekly. But I'll get I'll let you all take a peek at that. So the level three is that expected behavior. So that's the link to the standardsbased environment. You work on that 4 3 2 1. Three being expected. Four showing commendable uh behaviors. Two showing, hey, sometimes we're missing um you know, you'll get your phone calls home at the level two in most cases. and um you know trying to find a way that we can get those kids working back up into that expected behavior. And then you
know occasionally we'll get we'll have students that'll fall under that um continually or or often showing the inability at this time to you know show some of our nine expected behaviors. So as you can see those arriving on time responsible is very less behavioral and more skill driven but as you'll see respectful and safe gets a little more behavioral for us. So how we've come about this we have revised this over time. So as I stated we started about 2017 or 2018. It went through iterations of our instructional coach then to the teams and then the teams brought it to meetings and then in the meetings we all discussed what we thought was best. it went back into teams and then we we went with that expectation grid for um until this year. So last
year we revised it again and we went through that similar process. What did you like? What didn't you like? Uh we kind of took everything, stripped it away. We ended up coming back to much of this similar expectation goals that we had had in 2017 and 2018. Um with a few additions because of technology, we had to add that in with the move to one to one. Um, and then we moved into weekly tracking for documentation. So, in these, this is where I'll hold this up. What we're currently asking our our teachers to do weekly is assess all nine of these. Okay? So, that's in three in each category and then those will accumulate to give you a uh one, two, three, or four. Some of that we found can be pretty daunting and overwhelming
for staff. Um, some teachers said it's 2700 clicks a period. So that would be our PE teachers because they have every student. Um, so we're trying to find something that can be repeated and that's that's going to be part of the revision moving into next year is how can we take that task off of some of our staff and then uh we linked it to the eligibility requirements with standardsbased learning. We want our kids to grow and improve. So, we don't want to we don't want to knock you for being a level one and growing and improving or a level two and growing and improving. Um, we thought that a way to work eligibility is what are your skills in the classroom? What kind of person are we putting out into the public? How are
you representing Jamestown across your chest? So, we came about with the expectation grid and that showed that showed a lot of success during the season and some of that we lost we lose some of that success outside of the season. So we're trying to refine some of that process too in our first year. Uh working through that expectation grid with eligibility. The MTSSB process. Uh this is training through SEEK. That's the Southeast Educational Consortium. Um they've allowed us awesome space to refine and revise what we have done. We're finding ourselves moving back to some of the things that we've been committed to in previous years. We meet monthly with our committee. Uh we imp our goal is to improve parent teacher collaboration so that we can work the goal is to work together. We want
we want to know that the community and our parents can see not so much community sorry because that's confidential information but the parents can see how their students are doing behaviorally and with those non-academic skills in class. um we've grown to learn that we may not know exactly how to access that. So again, that will come through that MTSSB process and how we can do a better job communicating that so parents can have a live look week to week at how their student is um behaving in the class, working in the class and how that's growing for them. Another item that we need to improve on, but we have currently in the buildings our expectation posters in key areas. So, how do you, you know, it sounds silly, but how do you go to the
bathroom appropriately? What's proper bathroom etiquette? What's proper cafeteria etiquette? How do we walk through the hallways? Um, how do we engage with our friends, you know, in a classroom? So, we have some posters for those while not trying to overdo it, but give those gentle reminders. They're really nice for teachers when you can point at it and say, "Hey, we're falling below the line here." And that's a very successful uh that's a very successful option. I get to use it almost every day. So, um I know I appreciate it. some of my takeaways. I gave you a few, but we do need we do need collaboration with our families to support students and teachers. Um, I think that's important and I and we're going to strive to push push to do a better job of
that and improve on that. We already do do a very nice job, but I think we can improve there anyway. Uh, we have a low number of ineligible students. I would like to keep it that way because in my opinion, I'm sending then students out that are going that are going to represent Jamestown the right way. Intensive, we have an intensive process to track behaviors on a weekly basis. Again, we want to look at making that not so intensive so that we can give good data, but it's it's not going to be just another thing for the teachers to do, but something that gives a positive impact. Um, and then as I had stated, we're concerned that families may not know how to access some of the citizenship scores or the standardsbased scores. And so
we'd like to improve um, education and communication with our community as well. So with that, I'd like to open myself up for any questions. Melissa, go ahead. This is not there. Is it working? There we go. Thank you for the presentation. Um the question that I had is I noticed that some of the things that are on here um have to do with um causing a distraction to others, disrupting things, um keeping hands and feet to yourself. are those that are um in the special ed adhering to the exact same standards or is there because what could be misconstrued as being disruptive and um things to others is just a part of who they are and so I didn't know if they were held to on on a different scale or how how does that
work? Um are you working with the special ed teachers and their IEPs on that or how is that working? No, it's a good question because that's that's part of what I work with every day, too. One of the things we like to say is our students are general education students first and then we can behave we can work with those behaviors later. Typically with a special ed student, working with them in the moment is not the right time. So oftent times if there is a disruption to the class, it may warrant a removal so that there can be a period of you know calming. We call it taking a break, a five, you know, five minute break, seven minute break, and then trying to find a way to teach that behavior. Um, because it is
important to, you know, in a class of 20 for the other 19 to be able to focus and for that student to have the opportunity to be removed because I mean that also protects who they are as well, right? So, do we hold them to the same standards? Yes, but with safety nets. If that answers your question. Jason, go ahead. >> Yes. Again, thank you. Um, is there is there a correlation between the expectation grid and um working with our counselors, our counseling staff? Is is there a connection there anywhere? Um, is this leading to, you know, more counsel referrals or could you just explain what that connection is if there is one? That's a good question. Um, it doesn't take it doesn't take an expectation grid to get us to get a student referred
to a counselor. Um, oftentimes referrals will come through emails, through team meetings. I know I'm in team meetings usually once a month if I can be. Um, but as far as the expectation grid, right now we don't have a process where we go through and we say, "Hey, there's three kids that have ones, four kids that have twos. Let's get some counseling for them." Is that a area of growth? That's a good option and possibility though. Um, but currently we see that through um email referrals or just communication with our staff. Yep. >> Dan Can you expand a little bit on the eligibility piece of it? Uh what part of eligibility are you talking about and then what percentage of the kids does that affect? >> Sure. So eligibility is any anyone with that inactivities.
Um the way to remain eligible or I guess if you're going to lose eligibility, however you want to look at this, um to lose eligibility, you would have to have a two in more than one class. So that would reduce I felt that reduced the idea that we struggle with one teacher and so if there were multiples with that one teacher that um that conflict wouldn't create an ineligibility. So you have to be ineligible or to be ineligible you have to have a two in two different classes. So that would be a two in science and a two in ge or in geography if you will um or any one. So, if a student is at a one, I mean, that's extremely below the line. That would create an ineligibility, and that's just a one
in any class. Um, other things that were added in there were suspensions within the week, uh, would warrant a reduction in eligibility. But largely what we saw was out of any of the ineligible students, you know, workrelated behaviors, not turning things in on time, showing up late for class. Uh those resulted in level two behaviors in multiple classes, which we noticed if a kid's not getting their work done or showing up on time, they're also struggling academically. So the academic piece is still kind of there um because those are the behaviors we identified to create that ineligibility. um you know when there was a reduction in grades ABCDFs. So to reiterate it again, you need a two in two classes or a one in any one class would then create an eligibility and that's week
to week. So that would be Wednesday to Wednesday >> and that's only for kids who are in activities or sports or any extracurricular. >> Yep. So I had a good conversation with the team today around that similar topic was we need to find something for the students that are not in activities and or those that are not in an activity right now. So that's something that we need to explore that we don't have an answer to right now. >> Okay. It's a good start. Yep. >> Aaron, >> so just looking at the other side of the spectrum on that then, uh what is the motivation to achieve a level four on this uh rubric? >> Sure. Typically our level four students are the ones that we're celebrating in our student of the month breakfast in
the morning. So that's the current um lead motivator I would say. Now, some of the teams have academic awards, if you will, or behavioral awards. Um, to name them off the top of my head, I can't, but some of them have like a Oh, if you want to like the sixth grade, the one of the the Kappas will recognize a couple students that showed positivity towards or they might have seen them have um engage in a positive act towards another student and they'll give them an an individual award for that. and then that may be reflected within your citizenship grade as a level four. So to say you get a four and then that leads to this, we don't quite have anything of that nature. Um but there are little positive reinforcers among most if
not all teams that uh for those students that are at or above expectation. >> So something like no homework for a week would be a good idea. >> Hey, you know what? If they have homework in a week, I'd be surprised. They do. Teachers do a nice job of trying to keep that in the classroom, but maybe I could do that anyway. >> Right. Any other questions from the board at this time? >> Okay. Thank you, Mr. Connell. Appreciate your time tonight. >> Those are great questions. I appreciate it. >> Next on our agenda, we have the superintendent report. Dr. Luck, >> thank you. you have my written report. Um the guiding coalition continues to meet. We meet again this week and I think next week as well uh as we are getting towards uh
recommendation right now we're focused on prioritizing. So we've been studying as I've shared before we've been studying a lot of different schedule models having a lot of really great discussion. Now we're to the point though where we start need to start narrowing that focus. So instead of looking at everything, you know, what do we need to study in greater detail and really start to um you know, get a little deeper uh in which schedule models and which structural formats are we no need to devote more of our planning and discussion time around? So that's where we're at currently. Um surveys for home ed and open enrollment. Um, we're in the process now. We've sent home uh surveys to our families in the community that are accessing home education. We're doing the same for open enrollment.
Uh, I'll report to the board what we see in terms of trends. Uh, what we're seeing, you know, we do kind of depend on the response rate. You know, we, you know, I think with our home survey, it was less than 20%. Uh but if we can stay um actually I think it was less than 10%. Less than 10%. Um but uh hopefully take an opportunity to learn from those and like I said we'll share with the board the results the the themes that we see from those um from the communications committee. Uh we are at the point as I've shared in the past the communications committee this year was focused on those uh key questions and themes that came up through the negotiations process. I won't read them read through them but those are
kind of the general themes that we focused around. We were looking at you know what's the perspective from all sides from the from the the representatives of the teachers. what's that p perspective central office and the board having some discussion around those perspectives uh but we spent most of our time really thinking about problem solving if this is a concern what are reasonable ways that we can look to to solve those particular concerns or address the concerns um I've really been happy with this process how it's worked out I thought we've had really good open discussion uh and most recently we on fee in at the end of February Uh we looked at a lot of different things that we've talked about and what's um you know you know what were some of those solutions
that we felt like we could implement. Uh and we came up with those bolded ones. Uh a lot has to do of course with time. Um not only um you know specifically related to the time to do my work but also how are we spending that time. Uh so that finds its way into embedded PD work time. We have a lot of professional development. You know, one of the concerns that we heard was don't have enough time to make it real like we talk about it. Uh we feel like we need to learn or do these things and then implementation happens or um we think that's a great idea, but then the regular teaching role gets in the way. uh and so trying to find more time to allow people to practice and implement uh
before we enact it. So that was one uh area and we're directing that to the PD curriculum committee. uh flex summer trainings uh to inservice commitments. You know, the the thought process there was could we include some of the opportunities that in the past we've embedded into that um into our inservice time and give choice if some of those things can be can be completed during the summer essentially getting credit for time already spent and that becomes more flexible time during inservice. um prioritization of uh oh oh one more on time. Uh that was flexing summer trainings but also uh at the beginning of the year we have a lot of uh additional expectations that come up at the beginning of the year that could be what's popping or um freshman orientation uh our title
one night all those things that everybody has to do uh outside of the day. Uh one of the things that we heard is that's a really busy uh time whether it's just prepping in my classroom whether it's inservice and all the expectations that happen there and then we also have these after hours kind of commitments and so we thought about rolling some of those into inservice time. So basically giving credit during inservice time for those shared expectations throughout that inservice week like what's popping and and so we might shave a little time off of one of our inservice days and give credit for that time that they're going to be spending later. Really no different than PT comp days and how we operate those. Um so that's that uh prioritization of infinite campus roll out.
There was just general concern. We're moving from power school to infinite campus. general concern about what that's going to take and uh to do that from a teachers perspective and do we have enough time for staff teachers and staff in general to implement all of that and so uh we wanted to reinforce that that's our priority uh the SIS is everything is built on the SIS system working well so our priority is there uh and then a couple others are are more continuations of things that we have been doing and and that there's been appreciation for. I've done uh this year quarterly schoolboard updates. I just take all the minutes in my reports, feed it into AI, and just spit out a a fairly simple report. I've gotten a little bit of feedback uh over
time from different individuals about what that can include. And so, I think we've honed in on a format. Uh and people seem to be appreciating that. They'd like that to continue. Uh and then all of the different avenues that we've tried to implement to get more staff input, things like the guided coalition, uh communications committee, uh there's just been an appreciation for that. So that's really uh where we landed uh with those different uh key themes. Uh I'm pretty happy with them. I like I said, I think the communications committee uh has done a nice job really exploring all those issues. Um on April 2nd, just want to make a note that our board meeting location is going to shift to the fine arts center. We'll do a tour of the culinary arts space uh
before the meeting if you can make it. Uh if you haven't had a chance to see that, but our meeting will be uh conducted in the fine arts center. Uh my last thing is the spotlight. uh we'll have these individuals come to the board and and be uh recognized later on this year, but I wanted to recognize and congratulate our academic all-state winners uh from the high school. We had a bronze team winner uh this year, uh Maggie Stem Miller, and then we had honorable mentions, Shane Martin, Maya Moltzen, Maya Tyson as well. Uh so that's a big honor. All state awards, all state academic award. That's a that is a a big deal and and we certainly want to make sure that we recognize those individuals. Uh they'll get recognized twice. Once here, but
once before the board and you'll have a chance to recognize them, too. So, with that, I'll stand for questions. >> Does the board have any questions on the superintendent report? Jamie, >> is is that April 2nd meeting? That's a Thursday. >> I think I must have had the wrong day. I think I was in March when I did that. That would be April 6th. >> April 6th. Got it. Good catch. >> Our first Monday meeting in April. >> Any other questions? >> Dan, >> just uh pull on the uh infinite campus roll out. Uh you're talking about thoughtfully considering the t the time it takes. Uh I just want to make sure that we're not trying to stuff 10 pounds of training into a 5 pound sack. >> So >> yeah, we're considering that. Uh
there is a substantial amount of pre-work that goes in to the IC roll out. Uh every district has a team. That team is talking through implementation and stages. Uh and one of the things that we talked about and that's sort of where some of this flex summer training comes in too. What are the things that we can uh do in the summer when people have a little bit more time as an option to do before they get into inservice time and feel the bombarding of activities. And so all of that is, you know, we have a district level team that's thinking through that from a a number of different lenses, but we're concerned about that, too. >> Any other questions? >> Okay. Thank you. >> One comment with with um Infinite Campus that I wanted
to make with that question is just a reminder that uh with Infinite Campus and this is less so for the board but more of the community as a whole. The state made the choice to move from change our student information systems. Uh we didn't make the choice as a district to move from Power School to Infinite Campus. That was a decision that was done at the state level and so we're uh having to implement that. So that's happening across the state right now. >> Same conversations >> and we're hoping it's a good system and so we're excited about that. >> It will be a good system. Uh you know we have you know there's going to be a lot of benefits from making the change. It's going to be messy like any large scale implementation
is going to be and we're working hard to make sure that it's as you know the mess is as limited as possible. >> Very good. All right. Thank you, Dr. Luck. Moving on in our agenda, we have nothing under old business, under new business, nothing under activities, buildings, grounds, curriculum, assessment, or instruction or finance or operations. Moving to personnel, a approval of resignation at the conclusion of the 2024 to 2025 school year. Number one, Bob Thorson. Is there a motion? Motion by Melissa. Is there a second? >> Second by Jason. We have a motion, a second for approval of the resignation at the conclusion of the 2024 to 2025 school year. Number one, Bob Thorson. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, assuming roll call vote, all those in favor say I. I. Oppose.
Same sign. Motion approved. And thank you, Bob, for your many, many years of service and coaching and all kinds of things. So, thank you. Next on our agenda, we have approval of the superintendent's evaluation. And um the um we're going to go through there's the six parts if you remember. And we need a motion uh of satisfactory or unsatisfactory. And then we need a second and then Christie will do a roll call vote for each of the six sections. So >> did you want to talk about the findings first? >> Yep. And well I was going to do that after. So yeah and and I did meet with um we had a really good discussion um last week Monday and I can um talk about that uh following it. you saw the the report and
um the results as well as the comments and they were generally very all very good. So um we're going to start with number one goals and vision setting at a rating of 3.71 out of four. Is there a motion of satisfactory or unsatisfactory for goals and vision setting? Dan, >> we uh >> move we submit a satisfactory rating for a goal and vision setting. >> There's a motion for satisfactory rating for goals and vision setting. Is there a second? Second by Melissa. We have a motion, a second of satisfactory approval for goals and vision setting at 3.71. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, Christie, roll call vote. >> McKenna. >> Hi. Jamie Bear, >> yes. >> Heidi Larson, >> yes. >> Jason Roar, >> yes. >> Jacob Meyer, >> yes. >> Dan Tweeton,
>> yes. >> Aaron Roberts, >> yes. >> Melissa Gleon, >> yes. >> Unanimous. Motion approved. Number two, board relations at a rating of 3.72 out of four. Is there a motion for satisfactory or unsatisfactory approval? >> Motion for a satisfactory approval on section 2 board relations. We have a motion by Jamie for a satisfactory approval of board relations 3.72. Is there a second? >> Second by Jason. We have a motion, a second for board relations for satisfactory rating 3.72. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, Christy, roll call vote, please. Jamie Bear, >> yes. >> Heidi Larson, >> yes. >> Jason Roar, >> yes. >> Jacob Meyer, >> yes. >> Dan Tweeton, >> yes. >> Aaron Roberts, >> yes. >> Melissa Gleason, >> Owen McKenna, >> yes. >> Unanimous. Unanous approval. Number three, we
have human resource management at a rating of 3.43. Is there a motion for satisfactory or unsatisfactory rating for human resource management? >> I move for a uh rating of satisfactory for component 3 human resource management. >> We have a motion. Is there a second? Second by Dan. We have a motion second for satisfactory approval of human resource management 3.43 out of four. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, assume. Uh, do you want to do the roll call vote, Christie? Heidi Larson, >> yes. Jason Roar, >> yes. >> Jacob Meyer, >> yes. >> Dan Tweeton, >> yes. >> Aaron Roberts, >> yes. >> Melissa Gleason, >> yes. >> Owen McKenna, >> yes. >> Jamie Bear, >> yes. >> Unanimous. Approval. Section four, Curriculum and Student Support Services at a rating of 3.49. Is there
a motion for satisfactory or unsatisfactory approval? That one's sideways. >> Yes. >> Is there a second? >> A second by Jamie. We have a motion, a second for satisfactory approval of curriculum and student support services at 3.49. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, Christy, roll call vote, please. Jason Roar, >> yes. >> Jacob Meyer, >> yes. >> Dan Tweeton, >> yes. >> Aaron Roberts, >> yes. >> Melissa Gleon, >> yes. Owen McKenna, >> yes. >> Jamie Bear, >> yes. >> Heidi Larson, >> yes. >> Unanimous approval. >> Number five, community relations at a rating of 3.5. Is there a motion of satisfactory or unsatisfactory approval of section five? >> Motion for satisfactory approval for section five, community relations. >> There's a motion for satisfactory approval. Is there a second? Second by Melissa. So,
we have a motion, a second for satisfactory approval of community relations at a rating of 3.5. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, Christie, roll call vote, please. Jacob Meyer, >> yes. >> Dan Tweeton, >> yes. >> Aaron Roberts, >> yes. >> Melissa Gleason, >> yes. >> Owen McKenna, >> yes. >> Jamie Bear, >> yes. >> Heidi Larson, >> yes. >> Jason Roar, >> yes. >> Unanimous. Approval. Our last section is operations and resource management at 3.64 out of four. Is there a motion for satisfactory or unsatisfactory approval of section six operations? >> We have a motion by Melissa for satisfactory approval. Is there a second? >> Second by Dan. We have a motion and second for satisfactory approval of operations and resource management at 3.64. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not,
roll call vote. Christie, please. Dan Tweeton, >> yes. >> Aaron Roberts, >> yes. >> Melissa Gleason, >> yes. >> Owen McKenna, >> yes. >> Jamie Bear, >> yes. >> Heidi Larson, >> yes. >> Jason Roar, >> yes. >> Jacob Meyer, >> yes. >> Unanimous. Unanimous approval. All right. Thank you. And also thank you for the board for completing um the the survey uh the evaluation. Um as you can see the as everyone see s saw and heard um you know very high ratings in in all the areas. Also appreciate the comments that board members put in there because that just helps guide some discussion um when I meet with Dr. and we had a nice conversation last week on Monday and we talked through um all the different areas as well as the comments and
and the only thing it would be nice to know is as we do our evaluation superintendent evaluation monthly. It it kind of would have been nice to know maybe when that comment was made because it might have been related more to an agenda item and so sometimes um that part we might want to fix that part on it. So, um but overall um really good discussion. The strategic plan, we spent some time talking about the strategic plan and um I know that's been um in in evaluations in the past has been a an area that's board members have have had comments on and and I think we're making good progress on that um of and how the reporting is going and and we're really I think honing in on that a lot more. the communication
plan. I there were lots of comments about communication and I think we're just starting this communication plan and so we'll kind see how you know um it's very new and we'll kind of see where that goes and and um you know I think it's something that we'll we might want to guide a little bit um as we get into it deeper and but I think we have a really good start on that and looking forward to that. We also just talked a little bit um kind of from more of an administrative um organizational part. Um we we have really good I feel we have really good working group board working groups um and but we kind of you know we send out a doodle schedule a meeting. I'm thinking more about um and I had
we had a discussion here about this is the starting starting in in July. this is the the finance committee is going to meet these days throughout the year, strategic planning, whatever it might be. Um, and then if we need the meeting, if we don't need the meeting, we don't need to have a meeting to have a meeting, but if we don't need to have the meeting, we can adjust it. Um, also from a reporting standpoint, I I'd want the board more involved in reporting out those committee meetings and and so um board members will be on the agenda and specifically tasked to to do a report out um in that way we can tie those to agenda meeting to to agendas um if if they're more scheduled and a little more structured. So, I think
um we have a lot of things um on our plates right now moving forward and I think having more of a structure to it is is going to be helpful for everyone and and um and like I said, I also would like to see board members be more involved in in the reporting out aspects of that. So, otherwise, any comments or questions at this time? Aaron? Yeah, I think um that's it. It's it's good to get the the board more involved in in the um committee uh agendas and discussions uh report outs etc like you were saying. um just as something to throw on the table though. Um and I don't know where everybody else is at, but I know uh supporting all of the different committee meetings and all the after hours stuff um
can get taxing on people's personal lives. And so, uh I would just throw this out that I would be open to trying to meet during the day more so as as opposed to having to do it at night all the time. um you know, obviously may taking some time off work or whatever, but I would be open to that if that's uh something that uh would help um alleviate some of the the workload. >> Yep. Thanks, Aaron. And and we may just want to approach that committee by committee because, you know, we don't want to limit someone from being on a committee because their work schedule doesn't have have flexibility built in. But but good idea. It it there are groups particularly um I I look at negotiations group also. Um I they're here a
lot of a lot of nights and it's a lot of um last year probably could don't want to add up the hours and so we may want to even look at you know if we want to that particular group I know has a lot of meetings in a really short amount of time and it's hard to schedule family life around that too. So, we may want to look at we can put on a future agenda, but the board can think about if if we may want to compensate that differently just because it's it's it is it's a lot of meetings in a really short amount of time. So, put together. So, any other comments on the board committees and scheduling and organization of that? Any other comments on the superintendent evaluation? I we sure appreciate
Dr. Luck um serving our district and um I think even just um the I think we're making a lot of progress on on some of the things that we were trying to like the strategic plan and a few of those things that we were really trying to move forward with and and so appreciate your work on on that and uh thank you again for serving serving our district. >> Yeah, thank you. So, I appreciate uh as I've said at all of our eval our evaluation meetings, I appreciate the feedback and we're ultimately at the end of the day, we're just trying to get better every day and the and the the scores are great. The feed the comments that come are are really the drivers for my improvement. So, I appreciate those that when you
have when you take that time and and give me some feedback and it it allows me to kind of process uh what it what nine different board members are looking for and and try to strategize around how I can do uh my work better. So, I appreciate that. Thank you. >> Thank you again. Moving on agenda and our policies and procedures, there's nothing under tuition. We have approval of a tuition agreement with Pingri Buchanan public schools for seventh grade Jamestown student. Is there a motion? Motion by Melissa. Is there a second? >> Second by Jamie. We have a motion, a second for approval of tuition agreement with the Pingri Buchanan public school student for a seventh grade Jamestown student. Any discussion? Any discussion? Any discussion? If not, assuming roll call vote, all those in favor
say I. I. Oppose. Same sign. Motion approved. Under other, there is board election information. Um, so that's just there for your information to review. Any items for future agenda? anything. Okay. If not, let Dr. Luck or myself know. I do appreciate when board members reach out and if there's um something also with the strategic plan monitoring, if there's something specific that you want a little deeper dive into, always just let me know that also. We may have a finance one coming up >> after the next after the next one. Okay. Yep. So that's in a >> we're we're looking at facilities >> on the 9th is is hopefully that's so that's next Monday. Uh and then the following Monday no the following week that's it's a Wednesday is is finance. >> Okay. Sounds good. Yep. Thanks. and the meetings will be posted, but I always like to let make sure board members know what's coming up in case there's
any questions that you have. Um, possible executive session to discuss the negotiation strategies. Is there a motion? Okay.
