classes overall my name is Isabella Butch and this summer I took um cooking and math my favorite thing we did uh overall was that how the teachers were fair and put us in Fair groups and didn't disinclude anybody in anything um and my favorite thing from cooking that we made would probably be the secret kiss cookies now could we all please stand for the pledge I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all foreign thank you so much for coming to lead us in the pledge and for telling us about your experiences I'm going to admit that all of that talk about the cooking class made me a little bit hungry and I

was just reminiscing it once upon a time my kids did the Rockets class and so I was getting wisdom tool about thinking about how awesome it was to watch those Rockets get launched so I'm glad you all had such a fantastic experience thank you for being here you are the best part of our meeting um and I have something over here for you if you want to come meet me over here then you can go out the door and meet your parents in the lobby so thank you so much thank you board members and administrative team just double check that your microphones on your computer are turned off we heard just a little bit of reverberation as you're checking that thank you I will invite our maintenance and custodial teams to come up to the

painting and also some important Roofing projects all of this required coordination to ensure that our regular summer uh could be accomplished without interrupting the amazing summer programming that we just heard a little bit about our Park District camps and the many construction projects that were occurring throughout the district um we just heard from some of our students who were able to enjoy our summer enrichment program thanks to these individuals who are standing here before us and then also our schools opened in such beautiful condition this year again thanks to all of the hard work and dedication of these individuals we wanted to honor them and celebrate them and say thank you and I'll also say a special thank you to Patrick hosler who leads this team is a little bit newer to this position as

our director of Maintenance and custodial staff director of buildings and grounds and he really has organized and inspired this group of amazing team members to do some pretty incredible things despite some obstacles this summer so we want to acknowledge and thank the them all very much and I appreciate the board for inviting them here to be recognized and honored tonight these are just some of our Representatives others are still in our buildings working hard others put in a full day today and so we want to honor and celebrate them all with a big round of applause thank you [Applause] sorry oh we have someone joining us on Zoom as well thank you thank you yes I oh Julio's here with us online thank you Julio for all of your hard work it's great to have

you here and so great to have so many of you here in person as well thank you yes I want to Echo everything Dr chromoscoli said um I am so glad you were here tonight and I cannot overstate how important the work that you do is the learning that our children do can't happen unless it's in a space that's appropriate for them to learn and you made that happen and thank you so much for your Herculean efforts this summer and for everything you do every day for our district and as a little thank you we have some stuff you can meet Mr um sorry Krauss yes I have so many things in my head right now Mr Krause and I do know Mr Krause um in the hallway to get a little token of our

appreciation so thank you again before we go I need to say one more thank you and appreciation I see Maria hiding in the back of the crowd as is normally the case but she is the inspiration for so many of these team members and and really helps to lead the crew to be successful so I want to raise up Maria and say thank you Maria for all of your hard work and your leadership for these incredible individuals so thank you [Applause] thank you thanks for making your way over tonight thank you so much thank you thank you yeah it should stay open thank you thank you all right we have one more individual who we'd like to recognize and celebrate this evening and that is Megan Otto our Central School assistant principal Megan I'll invite

you to come up as well um I'll share a few words about Megan and she might want to say a few words as well but we are pleased to welcome our new assistant principal at Central School this year and our honor to introduce her this evening to the board um Megan comes to us she began her career in 2016 spending several years teaching kindergarten first second third and fourth grade in Indiana while also pursuing her principleship endorsements and and internships those experiences helped to prepare her for success as an elementary school administrator in another District in Indiana before choosing to relocate here and we are so fortunate to have her joining our team while she was there mizato played a key role in the support in in supporting their systems to help students with their

learning and behavioral struggles in in collaborated with teachers and redesigned their response to intervention plan for reading and math as well she was also heavily involved in researching and recommending a new math curriculum which we know was undertaken here as well we're really very pleased to have Miss Otto joining our district and central school and we'd like to welcome welcome you as well [Applause] I just want to say thank you for this opportunity it's been great to meet the staff and the students and work alongside we're excited for a wonderful year this year thank you [Applause] hey I think we're moving on to budget presentations Dr kramuscoli yes that's right we have our budget presentations this evening this information will not be new to the board but as is required we will present the budget

again and Corey will lead us through both the Wilmette Public Schools budget as well as the wixy budget thank you okay so tonight's the last step for our fiscal year 2024 budget approval process so on this slide I've kind of highlighted some of the main areas that we changed the budget from tentative to final once we get through the slides I'll show a summary graphic for everyone to be able to see in and hit on a couple of those those line items so the operating fund budget for fiscal year 24 which is the area that we focus on we have revenues of 75.8 million and expenditures of 70.1 so that brings us to kind of the first area that we focus on our projected Surplus revenues minus expenditures of 5.7 however we have to account

for some other uses 4.1 million so we have 3 million for construction projects and then a million for debt certificates and and a little over a hundred thousand for leases that brings us to the net surplus of 1.55 million and really the end the end uh snapshot that we're looking at with each budget is where does that leave us leaves us at 40 roughly 44 um of expenditures for fund balance uh 92 percent sorry yeah 92 percent of our revenues are generated from local sources so the local the other local Revenue would be different kinds of fees and um like replacement taxes is a big one within that area and then on the expenditure side we have right at 80 percent of our budget is salary and benefits and then this bar graph shows the

trend of each year having revenues exceed expenditures and if you go to the far right with fiscal year 24 having the revenues the exceed expenditures once again this last slide before I go to the summary of changes is something that we we did last year for the tax levy and then going forward we'll always present this at our at our public hearings for budget and levies is just a disclosure of what are picking a date what were our cash balances on that date here is what by fund what the cash balances were for d39 at the end of May um so as you can you know read through them all total it's 59.9 you know compared to a typical May that's a little bit higher than you would normally see just because um the capital

projects fund is boosted by the 11 million 11.2 million dollar Bond issuance so what that capital projects funds typically much much lower so let me share one other document okay so in this document where this is where we highlight what it what did we change from the spring tentative budget to to this final budget we're asking the board to approve we had it in the spring we had a you know a tentative net surplus of 279 000 now we're looking at 1.55 million um the keep tuition line represents the the change in enrollment from the spring through the summer replacement taxes a small decrease reflects the estimate the Illinois Department of Revenue released where they're now projecting a a sizable decrease from the prior year interest Revenue was the by far the largest change and

the one that was really driving this positive change from Spring to to final and um you know interest rates right now were on liquid accounts and any Investments we're getting you know roughly five and a quarter to five point three percent so um relative to what we've seen in the last 10 or 15 years that's um not even in the same neighborhood as we scroll down federal aid was uh the remaining parts of our sr3 money um some of the salaries and benefits just as we start to finalize Staffing being able to identify what those amounts are going to be and um that was any of it of the noteworthy ones go to the next slide so this the last Slidell show related to d39 budget so this is our summary of our operating funds

we have three years of actual data then we have the fiscal year 23 budget for the year we just ended and then we've got that blue column is our fiscal year 24 budget let's go to the very bottom right corner and you see that 44.3 percent which is where I tend to gravitate when I'm looking at it at a document like this that is it for the d39 fiscal year 24 budget later in the meeting we'll ask the board to approve it and then on approval we will file that with this B next month I'll be happy to answer any questions board members are there any questions or comments about the budget she's ready so um are you still are we still good with the around 40 plus for Reserves we decided to produce ourselves

much larger Reserves yeah I I'm fine with that as that is an approach of like trying to stay above 40 percent yeah I mean I think when whether you know whether a district did 40 or 30 or 35 or something different um you know the 40 at least from my perspective it works for works for d39 it provides enough of a cushion that you know unfortunately fortunately or unfortunately we're in Cook County a lot last year and this year we're seeing massive delays in the the second installment of Billings so you know if for no other reason we're avoiding short-term borrowing costs and whatever those might be in any given year um you know that's one reason you know the state the state recommends has a threshold 40 is above that which allows us to

have a high Financial profile score um yeah I think it's a good spot for us any other board members okay we have the wixie yeah all right budgets food all right so the wixy budget as we've talked about before it's our special education agreement with with Avoca it has its own financial statements which is why we're talking about it in at a board meeting and having the board approve it d39 serves as the Fiscal Agent for for wixie and then the budget for fiscal year 24 is 213 828 revenues equal expenditures there's no fund balance um there's not a lot going on it's a pretty consistent budget from year to year and no major changes from last year if anyone has any questions related to wixie be happy to answer those questions board members any

questions or comments okay thank you this would be an opportunity for the audience to address the board regarding the presentation of budgets I do not see any audience members I think we're moving on um having no further business I request a motion to adjourn to the regular meeting of the Board of Education may I have a second second motion having been made and seconded all those in favor please indicate by saying yay yay motion is carried by General consent and we are now adjourned to the regular meeting I hereby call to order this regular meeting of the board of education for Wilmette Public Schools District 39 for Monday August 28 2023 the time is eight or sorry 7 23 pm I seek a motion to approve the minutes of the June 12 2023 regular and

executive session meetings may I have a second the motion has been made and seconded board members are there any comments errors or missions to the minutes all those in favor of approving the minutes as submitted please indicate by saying yay yay the minutes are approved this would be an opportunity for the public to address the board at any topic I do not see any audience members here so I believe we are moving on to board reports um we'll start with committee reports facility development Mrs Kim to update the board and um this summer 2023 construction that was discussed at our last committee the whole meeting Mike bickler of Nicholas and Associates provided the update um he stated that they are still waiting for delivery of three chillers expected to ship at the end of August

and one for early September once Chillers have been installed there are a series of checks and balances to complete commissioning of the project unfortunately the equipment delays will delay the ability to provide air conditioning in the currently not air conditioning classrooms Mr Bigler noted all other Renovations have been completed and buildings and classrooms are ready for um with respect to Summer 2024 construction planning Mr boltmeyer reported the design team is working through plans for summer 2024. a bid alternate will be created for Central Elementary to place asphalt behind the school storm water drainage pipes that connect to the city drainage run under the cafeteria at Central once the asphalt is removed these pipes would be replaced at Ramona a booster pump would be installed to increase water pressure costs have yet to be identified if

pricing is high the bid will be discarded more information will be provided in September or October as a project develops thank you thank you School Finance Mr cesaretti so at the committee of the whole meeting we also discussed the budget that we just had a hearing on Mr bullfire provided budget changes made since the tentative budget presentation last June the District 39 budget was or will be presented for approval later this evening uh Mr boltzmeyer also presented the budget for wixie which is the Wilmette Community special education assistance um budget and District 39 continues to serve as a Fiscal Agent on behalf of the co-op that includes District 39 and Oak schools um as Mr goldfire stated just a few minutes ago Wix is a budget excuse me wixi's budget is a flow through entity

and with revenues and expenditures being equal they follow the same budget calendar as District 39. and that budget will be presented later for approval we also discussed annual post-tax compliance each year the district reviews contracts records to be in compliance with federal tax requirements on review the district is in compliance with all requirements we also discussed the 2022 tax year second installment Mr both Meyer reported that the statutory due date or the second installment taxes is August 1st it was released that excuse me the installment will be late second installment tax bills will be mailed out November 1st for the due date of December 1st so I am all right thank you strategy committee Mrs Schneider fabes school districts in Illinois are working climate to array every other year is B pays foreign Essentials for

this purpose accordingly District 39 has been used for several years and has chosen to administer the survey annual fee in order to get the most useful information unfortunately staff have funded questions in subcategories of the five Essentials difficult to interpret and use District 39 along with other new career Township districts began exploring other options for annual School climate surveys um that was done and approved by ISB and it would align better with the work being done the challenges presented in best practices at the time there were two options other than the five E's on review one of the two the comprehensive School climate inventory csci appeared far better than the other five Essentials after careful reviewing you in court d39 plans to use the cnci for the upcoming school year csci will allow us to

utilize the data collected in a much more meaningful way and we're planning to form s leadership group in partnership with our Union leadership to evaluate how to best Target Improvement several other districts in the township that moved or planning to to use the csci2 including nutria and anal and that's it thank you what sure I said one quick question about that I was thinking about a little bit more so this small leadership group will that team then be responsible for um reviewing and potentially resetting the kpis around that goal um just assuming that the data and the questions will change a little bit so they might advise on some of those kpi adjustments because they'll be really entrenched in that work but ultimately those kpis would be reviewed and recommended for revision by the dsat

team so it may be that the small leadership group has some areas that they really want to see us focusing on they might then advise the dsat what adjustments could be made yeah um speaking of dsat moving on to Liaison reports we're starting off with the dsat Dr kremaskoli yes our dsat our district strategic advisory team is set to meet on September 7th we're currently in the process of recruitment we have had an overwhelming number of parents indicating interest in serving on this committee we only have a spot for four four representatives and so we are currently reviewing those applications we will need to choose for who represent our district as a whole but then we'll be reaching out to some of our other organizations and teams to see if we can offer some other

opportunities to the other people we were so pleased with such a strong response in that regard and we're also recruiting staff members teachers and staff members to serve on our dsat as well before our September 7th meeting nice all right the Wilmette Village intergovernmental cooperation working group Mrs Kim and Mrs Schneider fabes anything to report um yes we are having our next meeting on Thursday September 7th um at five o'clock and um and I just wanted to sort of update that you know the topic that we're focusing on is mental health in our community and over the summer the um we had engaged a Consulting Group and the Consulting Group worked with Frontline workers to focus on the current state of Mental Health Access and resources in our community and so I think we're the

meeting in September will sort of um discuss the results of that and recommendations great iasp Mrs pathless [Music] Safety and Security resolutions committee and on August 5th um our co-sponsor from D21 from kneeling and I at the resolutions committee virtually in mid-august I think it's August 15th we were notified that the 2023 iasb resolution committee recommended do not program presentation apparently the committee felt that the resolution was too similar to the current iasb position statement 7.08 which you can find online um needless to say we're a little disappointed and frustrated by that so uh we decided to go a different route and that was via Ed Wren which is for suburban school districts I don't know familiar with it but um yeah today I I emailing um a representative from Ed red having our resolution

be a priority a legislative priority for them this year and um she wrote me back and she said that it will indeed be one of their finalize a draft of the bill which they're going to present [Music] s that was good after restaurants um and then I also just wanted to let everybody know totally different news that there the registration for the 2023 joint annual open it takes place in Chicago and [Music] on early bird rates um and that's it from the isip nice work thank you that's a quick question yeah so um so I know that the resolutions committee said that they they were declining to you know um recommend um does that mean that it's still going to be placed on the um on the the um like will delegates be able to

vote um adopting that stuff no I don't I don't think so either so it they didn't just say we're not going to recommend it they said we're not even going to present it um so that was that was that was really the disappointing part is that they wouldn't even allow the the committee of Representatives to vote um on the resolution that was proposed so they they chose instead not to present it at all so when we get our resolutions and every each board will be able to weigh in on those we won't see our resolution there so it's good that Ms Papalis is taking this different route and in advocating in other ways anyone else I don't mind echoing the disappointment mine was pretty extreme not gonna lie and I am so glad that you're

pursuing the Ed red root because um this is important okay um legislative update Mrs pathless [Music] on 24th 25th and 26th as well as November 6th 7th and um in other news I think everyone knows this but on August 2nd Governor pritzker signed he 2396 the attitude or the bill requires requiring a gardening program in 2027 from eight and then there's the legislature is not in session but just a reminder that um uh sort of the three big things that happened last year in addition to kindergarten um what hb3425 that's the new mandates on bullying notifications which I see in our policies is already updated that we need to provide notice on parents or Guardians within 24 hours um there's sb0090 requirements standard by the racism please go a lot to remedy 2024 and then

the last one is sb1872 accelerates the timeline for teachers in Europe and that's and that's the core of 2023 if you would like more information on that Ed read also found the attend that I'm going to all right thank you we're moving on to information items written communication Dr cremoscoli yes the board received written communication from Carl Hopman with questions regarding the diversity Equity inclusion and belonging task force that's our deib task force also from Brittany Ferris regarding the keep 39 fees and from Heather Oliver regarding utilizing the village newsletter to advertise parent engagement opportunities I'll move on to some administrative announcements some of which were well covered in our committee meetings but first I'll start with the celebration of the opening of schools the school Year is off to a really great start um

unfortunately with the excessive heat we have needed to implement our district excessive heat action plan we're really grateful to have had that plan in place because I really did help to guide our decision making in this regard this year the plan worked really well and we were able to navigate the first few days with relative success so we were really happy for that and appreciative of the board's support in that difficult decision making um we're all very eager for the current construction uh progress to be projects to be completed in our are happy to report that this should be the last fall in which we need to open schools with such significant worry of the excessive heat for our non-air conditioned classroom so we're really eager for that I heard one teacher explain that while

it was tolerable they were able to get through it eventually um the the thought of being able to really focus on students and teaching and learning and building that sense of community from the very first day is just really really exciting I think I I shared that message with the board as well um I think it we we managed our way through it and we're really glad to be able to keep classes in session Monday uh Wednesday Thursday and Friday but uh certainly we're looking forward to next fall when we might not have such a worry and even the spring we anticipate air conditioning to be thank you to that in terms of Summer Construction and building projects I think Miss Kim under the boards facility development committee gave a really good update there we'll

look forward to additional updates um in September and October in our committee of the whole meetings um in terms of our Institute days and our pre-service training as the board is aware our pre-service and Institute days were successful as well we hosted our new teacher week uh the week of August 14th that was our new teacher orientation we just have a really outstanding group of new teachers this year these days are filled with professional development and training as well as opportunities for our new teachers to meet with their mentors in their building administrators as well um again we are thrilled to welcome back all of our teachers and staff with our annual kickoff in suit day on Monday August 21st and Tuesday August 22nd these days included are all District Welcome Back followed by the

district professional development in the morning um on Monday and then building days in the afternoon on Monday as well as on Tuesday so I'd like to thank Ann and Aaron both for making an appearance at our Welcome Back event for all of our staff it turned out to be a really nice celebration of of return our curriculum nights are coming up as we prepared to welcome back our students this fall each of our schools hosted some type of a new family orientation many families um also participated in our transition support orientation events so those are the events that are designed for our incoming fifth graders and our incoming seventh graders at both High Crest Middle School and Wilmette Junior High School respectively I want to thank our administrative teams as well as our teachers and

staff who helped to support in those events they really are important events and we're learning more and more as we receive feedback from Families how critical those events are in supporting success as students transition from one building to the next but coming up we're looking forward to hosting our school-wide curriculum night so we did some for kindergarten already and high Crest Middle School will host their fifth grade families this week on August 31st and then our sixth grade families on September 5th followed by our elementary schools who will be hosting events at their schools on September 7th and then wjhs will host their curriculum nights on for seventh graders and for eighth graders on September 14th and 21st respectively so thanks for all the hard work that goes into that I want to acknowledge and

thank our teachers for their time and effort invested to ensure that those are informative nights for our families but also an opportunity for families to build connections and Partnerships with our schools as well so and thanks to all the families who come out for those great nights too hopefully it will be a little bit cooler as tonight is as they enter our schools Miss Schneider fabes mentioned the school climate survey the transition that we're making this year to the csci the comprehensive School climate inventory thank you to the board for your support of that and to our Union leadership we're also willing to support that adjustment we think the new information will be really helpful with us as we continue on that path within our strategic plan I'll mention a few parent education events we're

really proud to host a variety of parent education events for our District 39 families throughout the school year these events really are designed to Target the specific interests of our d39 parent community and all are welcome to join us most are offered live you can stream in or you can attend in person and this year we'll be hosting some of those events at our schools so it gives our our families a neat opportunity to enter our schools as well for maybe a different reason than curriculum night we hosted our first parent event which is called feeling safe in District 39 schools and we're really thankful to Our Community Partners the police and fire department and representatives of our community agencies that really help to keep our schools safe so thank you to everyone who joined

us there the recording which we find many of our families appreciate having those recordings those are on online and available to be watched and then our next event titled supporting your neurodivergent learner strategies for success will take place on Wednesday September 13th at 11 A.M it will be over Zoom but we're also presenting it live at Central Elementary School and so parents are welcome to join us there if they'd like to be in person our full schedule of events is online speaking of online we have launched a new District website a redesign of our district website we're really hoping to make our website a little more engaging and a little more intuitive so people can find what they need there you've seen probably a new look to the website and then over the next several

weeks we'll continue to update the content and make sure that if there's important contact content it's linked in the right places our school websites as well got an overhaul and so we invite everyone to visit our district website and and check out the new look of our district and school websites in terms of property tax assessment appeals the potential impact of several P tabs have been included in the board packet for the board's information and we have received and processed several foia's the district received Freedom of Information Act requests from Adam zelizer requesting records regarding board votes on iasb resolutions from 2018 to 2022. from Vince espie of Prairie State Wire requesting contracts and agreements with vendors providing diversity equity and inclusion services from January 1st 2019 to the present as well as invoices payment

records or financial documentation made to Dei vendors including their findings and recommendations reports assessments evaluations conducted by Dei vendors including their findings and recommendations and Communications such as emails letters and memos exchange between District 39 and Dei vendors we also processed foia from Diane schnozzenbach requesting map growth summary reports for all d39 schools from Fall of 2022 through spring of 2023 from Kate smizer of NBC Chicago requesting all settlement agreements judgments Law Firm invoices insurance claims studies reports and Records referencing foia or PAC lawsuits and reviews and finally a commercial foia from Smart procure requesting all purchasing records from March 17 2023 through June 2023 that was a lot of work on behalf of our teams to compile and report on all of that information so thanks to everyone who had a hand in that

and we'll move on to um the next portion of our agenda yes strategic Plan update response to the CRC report yes um I'll be happy to report on that as well this is uh the report of the superintendent's response to the CRC report which was uh title the culture of connectedness in empathic and inclusive community for our neuro Divergent students that was presented to the board on May in May of 2022 the report that has been provided to the board shares that the recommendations were accepted by District 39 were really really thankful to the CRC for their work on this as as background for those who might not be familiar with the CRC the community Review Committee that is a United States group of stakeholders who come together to review an expansive set of initiatives

and and support transformative growth in District 39 the CRC draws participation from District 39 parents community members teachers and administrators each spring the committee generates a report on a topic of Interest the results of those that review in that research is some strategic recommendations that then help to guide our work as we continue to advance our strategic plan so this year's report and findings were accepted and we've Incorporated that into our our strategic plan action steps for this coming year and we'll be presenting that in September I'd like to express our gratitude to all of the 2022-2023 community Review Committee members with special recognition of President Amy wechsler-ross and vice president Ariel Ruby as as a as an added bonus they are continuing this topic in the upcoming year and we're eager to continue to

learn more from them right now it their topic is pending a vote from their membership but we anticipate that they will continue to study this topic on the title of their report looks to be understanding and supporting the learning needs of neurodivergent students in District 39 so we will look forward to hearing more and into their work that will continue throughout this year with great appreciation the reporter submitted to the board thank you all right moving on to annual business schooling thank you we have our annual enrollment report and I will turn it over to Dr glowacki that's the fall enrollment update is an update from our report last May so last May if you recall I shared with you a plan based on the student enrollment that we had at that time and then

throughout the summer it's something that we monitor equally if not daily depending on how quickly information is coming towards us so we did increase three sections in different areas we increased one section of kindergarten at McKenzie and the section of first grade at both Ramona and that was done pretty early on so we had a great opportunity to interview and have our selection of applicants throughout the summer Kitty Lee and the principals and I spent a lot I feel really good about the hiring and the choices we were able to make with our app so that's an update from a change from where we were last night foreign the other piece that I'll highlight from the report is the number of kindergarten students participating it was a question that the board had asked last year

and so that was the first time we started report he recall last year we had about 91 percent kindergarten students at this time last year and this year we're at 95 percent I don't know if it's going to show that we're on a continued continued upward Trend or this is where we're at this turn it might fluctuate a little bit each year but it's a nice positive for our school district thank you summer enrichment program Dr Swanson is going to provide this report um um so every year we do the summer enrichment program it is made up of three sort of similar and yet distinct programs um there's this extended school year program which is designed for children who have IEPs and demonstrate regression over the holidays so the program for those students is really

designed to maintain their skills and help them start the new school year back where they where they sort of left off and then we also have academic classes as well as camp and hobby classes um Anthony haddock who is the assistant principal at McKenzie has been overseeing and coordinating the summer enrichment program for the last two years he was hoping to be here this evening but is was not able to make it so I'm going to share a little bit of of his wonderful pictures that he took this summer so in the academic enrichment classes we run both fun um as you heard from some of the students that were here tonight um math puzzle games and reading different types of novels or genres we also do review and reinforcement which is designed for students

who score below the 25th percentile typically on our um winter benchmarking in either Ames web or on map and so it's really designed to review and really solidify some of the skills that students learned during the previous school year again hoping to get them right back up on track for the following year we had children participating in a wide variety of academic classes um I think that that both the teachers that teach our summer enrichment program love doing it the class sizes are small they get to customize what they're doing the students have a lot of fun it's really great to walk around and see our students and see how they're enjoying and and playing learning and playing at the same time we also have as we talked heard our students talk about our Hobby

in themed enrichment and I think that many people are aware of the rocketry program there's nothing more fun than going out and watching the kids set off their rockets and seeing the excitement that they have during that time cooking is also always a very well received different activity I got to taste some of the food that they were making this summer a few times it was really fun the kids are so excited and it's a great way to for both of those classes and all of the rest of our Hobby and themed classes to really sneak some academics in there too is they're learning to measure and calculate things with rockets um but so it's it's a fun program uh this year we had about 70 fewer students participating than last year but we still

had almost 300 students participating and so it it's it's an option for many of our families to mix especially our students who do some academic classes and then can also participate in more of the Hobby and theme classes to make some different different activities for them it's a valuable program and I think that many of our families enjoy it our students certainly do and so while we are done with this the the summer program for this year we will be again planning for the next one shortly so hopefully we will see more students again next year does anyone have any questions good question I was just curious on the decrease the BCC program or did you see it and you know extended school year program tends to be somewhat similar from year to year we

saw more of a decrease across the review and reinforcement and and the more academic classes as well as the hobby base classes it's funny was there a different Financial yeah so this year as we did last year we offset the review and reinforcement um we did we saw more enrollment last year for that review and reinforcement with a lower tuition we had the same tuition this time which was again that lowered cost yes but we saw less enrollment this time so I think that coming out of the pandemic last year we had more families really kind of worried there's a lot of discussion across the news media about sort of learning loss and I think that we didn't see quite that level of of concern this year in terms of any other board members thank

you I think we're moving on to the fiscal year 2023 administrator and teacher salary and benefits report Dr gawacki environment where we post polarizing benefits for teachers and administrators meeting it will be posted directly on our website thank you annual tax compliance notification yes since the district issues bonds or long-term debt we're required to go through uh annual post tax compliance review and as the individual responsible for that I'm happy to report that the E39 is in compliance with with everything for the past year thank you board members any questions comments support staff Union letter of agreement so tonight we're asking for approval for the addition of a new position under our maintenance to Department Dr Mr Baltimore and I have discussed the need for a professional painter we spend a lot of monetary resources

McKenzie school but we don't live by there anymore and um you know McKenzie's changed a lot and I driving him to his friend's house the summer I got a front row seat to see the progressing playground in its construction and it made me think a lot about all the things that McKenzie that have changed since my kids have been there the only classroom teacher left that um either one of my kids have or had is um in her last year of teaching was my son's fourth grade teacher Mrs oohler and my son is in his last year at New Trier and I thought about how the Edition got put on and the wall ball court got changed but I have it on good authority that people are still like hitting balls against a different wall

now and that's what I've heard from my friends and um the playground changed and the staff has changed and the Administration has changed but what hasn't changed is the um the amount of learning that's going on in the classrooms the love that exists for the kids that are walking those Halls and that applies in all the halls of the schools of our district and I'm just so grateful for all the hard work and all the love that everybody gives and expresses to the kids of our district every day and I'm just so grateful for it um so that's that's my that's my good and Welfare any any other comments okay um I seek a motion to adjourn to Executive session to discuss Collective negotiations special education individual student matters and specific personnel I moved to
