I'd like to call to order this meeting of the Hampton School Board. All rise for the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay, welcome everybody. We are going to start just by mentioning that uh Mrs. Elliot is going to be absent tonight. She had another engagement. So next, do we have anyone here for public comment on agenda items? Seeing none, uh we will table the rest of our public comment time until the end of our public meeting. So, does anyone have anything for your board member updates >> um for the um CIP? >> Uh just so everyone knows, a big topic this year is that they're
going to kind of change the way it works in future years. It's going to involve a little bit um more meetings for the people on CIP and a little bit more information um so that we can make sure we're uh actively contributing to the process. >> Nice. All right. And I think they've put together a um like a template now that they want everybody to use. So that'll make it a little more standardized. Yes. Going forward. >> That's definitely a big piece of it. Yeah. >> Awesome. And we would have filled it out if we'd known it existed, right? >> Yeah. >> All right. Uh does anybody else have anything for board member updates? >> Yeah, just on professional development, I just wanted to um say that a lot of staff are continuing their 504
training. Um the teachers also continue to meet with um Nick um I say his name wrong all the time. Geruso >> Geruso to review um AI tools. Uh teachers are meeting with Miss Santico. Um working on that multi-tered uh system of support and socioeotional learning strategies, mentoring. Um teachers are continuing to work on differentiation with um demonstrated success. And I saw that in January there'll be a committee for the teacher effectiveness plan and reviewing that. So again, those are all professional development things that um staff are continuing to work on in addition to all the other things they do. >> Awesome. >> All right. And for the recck department, just a huge uh thank you to everyone. We had a great sort of kickoff to the Hampton holiday season. We had great participation from the
schools and the parade on Saturday and we had some Hampton Girl Scouts at the tree lighting on on Friday night which was a really great event. So just thanks thanks to everybody for making all of those work really well. Yeah, I think that's all I have. Does anybody have anything else for updates? All right, Mr. Robbitai, please join us. Good evening everyone. Um a few things I just wanted to highlight at center school. Um obviously December is a very busy month but um just wanted to highlight all the hard work that the classroom teachers and interventionists have been doing. um you know as we constantly look at data and progress monitor our students been seeing a lot of students you know move out of inter uh tier 2 interventions back into their regular tier one
math and ELA groups um which is fantastic to see and just shows a lot of hard work um through researchbased instruction can get students back on the right path very quickly especially um you know when we hit them early at the at the younger ages at center. So, it's been really exciting to see a lot of kids just pick up things and run now that we're um you know through the first trimester of the school year. Um our first graders will be having their winter concerts tomorrow night at uh right here at Hampton Academy. We're looking forward to hosting them, their families and loved ones. Um they've put together a number of great musical items and I hope everyone will enjoy. Um and I didn't want to look past to just the the amount of
hard work that the staff has been putting in. um learning, implementing, you know, uh trying to perfect as much as they can the everyday math uh program and number worlds this year. Um a lot of hard work um you know beyond the classroom is going in to make sure um we're meeting that program with as much fidelity as possible. So it's been cool to um you know observe, get into rooms, watch teachers kind of you know um be more unified on the the instruction that our K to2 learners are getting. Um so you know I look forward to continuing to support um our teachers and provide them as much time as possible to feel comfortable with the program. Um our food drive was another big success. Um we had our our sharing all school meeting
right before Thanksgiving break. So that was uh we we appreciate all of the Hampton contributions that came in for that. Um obviously we had our parent teacher conferences. We appreciate all the support from our parents and caregivers at home having really good conversations about our students. A reminder that report cards went live uh yesterday on Alma. So again, that is a communication tool that we do hope um parents and caregivers care caregivers are looking at and reaching out to the school if they have any questions. Um and then one thing I just wanted to point out as well, um our longunning K to2 sports recreation program has still not been able to get off the ground. Uh Jackie Kennedy stepped away from her post after many years of service. uh that we deeply appreciate. Um
but we are looking for anybody that's interested. U anybody in the community can reach out to myself, they can call the front office. Uh you can reach out to Hampton Wreck, but we would love to find um a suitable superi supervisor to get that program up and running again. So I've been in contact with the wreck, but um that is been a big um big program that our students look forward to. Um and I would love to see it get up and running as soon as possible. So, um if anybody is looking for any extra community outreach or input, please contact me um via phone at the front office or my email um that is on the center school website. And that is the majority of my report. If anybody has any questions, I'd be
happy to field those. >> I think we're all set. Everyone, >> have a great holiday. Thank you. All right. Thank you, Mr. Sadler. Hello everybody. Um, so just a great time of year at an elementary school as you probably know. Um, a lot of excitement in the air, but um, also a lot of really good things happening as Mr. Robbitai said, just tying up the first trimester and starting to get things ready for when we return from the holidays to um, really collect some data and get the second trimester going. Um, a few things going on. Um, our Lendahan food drive continues until next week. Um it's going to be, you know, so far pretty solid turnout um from the students, but we'll keep reminding them about it and uh just a friendly reminder for
everybody that everything we collect, you know, stays right here with our Hampton families, which is great. Um on Wednesday, December 17th, that will be at Hampton Academy Auditorium at 6 p.m. Our fifth grade um original play. If you've ever been to a Marston performance, they're different every single um time. So, no two no two shows are ever alike, but the kids have been working super hard with Mr. Carlson, the other integrated arts teachers um putting on a great performance. So, it's going to be great. And as always, I see little tidbits, but I never like to see the complete thing till we really walk through it. Um but it's going to be exciting as always. And then as we gear up um for the festivities happening, we'll be participating in our seven days of holiday
cheer. So, it's the final seven or so days of school is six and a half. Um, there'll be a series of warm spirit days that the students will participate in, and some of them come with other activities related to kindness and just pro-social behaviors. So, um, it's a nice way to marry the two together and, um, give the kids a little something to look forward to before we depart. Other than that, I'm open to questions, right? Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> All right, Dr. Kim. Good evening everyone. Um, Mr. Gray is on his way. So, we will be doing a demonstration in a couple minutes. He is coming from a WinnO basketball thing. So, he'll be here. Just text me. He's about 5 minutes away. So, we'll start with a D our
Washington DC report. Um, final numbers are going to be coming in on the on the 9th. We've already been working with Bennett Travel and we have to solidify all the dates um in order to we have to solidify all the numbers to ensure that the blocks of hotels rooms that we have can be released um or reserved depending on them. So right now we have uh 85 students expected to travel um as of tw as of today. We'll have eight teachers, one school counselor, two administrators, um a potential paraprofessional depending on uh some meetings that we have coming up on the way, and uh one nurse hopefully. Uh we are but yeah, the deadline for this trip is going to be on Thursday. So, we have to have a hard deadline um to give Bennett
Travel the the numbers that we need. We have eight students who have opted out. On Monday the 15th at 400 p.m. um we will be at the community oven for our final F fundraiser of the year for the school. Um as students again who need financial assistance, we have two that require full assistance, four requiring partial. So um we are in a pretty good spot to cover all that. Um again the one area of need that we would possibly need fundraising for is nurse um which could potentially be up around 5,500. Um, one of the concerns that we uh kind of we've been working through is a safety protocol for our mental health uh concern. So, to date, we've had um 29 um Colombia screeners performed in our school. And you can see that on
the next page. I provided you an idea of of where what we uh what we give to students to determine their mental health state. Um when our school counselors receive ner uh receive word of a student in stress um they're brought down to the office and uh through their conversations we determine whether or not these screeners need to be implemented. If students were to answer in a particular way um we are required to call 988. 988 is the um assistance hotline for New Hampshire. Um, from there, 988 would either recommend that they're okay to go home um, under some rather strict supervision of the parent or be uh, sent to a hospital to to under the more severe cases. Um, we've already reached out to DC rapid response hotline and we've connected our 988 number
to the hotline down in Washington DC um, which I provided for you the number. So when we're down there, we if they hopefully we don't have to, but in the event we will be able to access the mobile crisis center there. Um we'll notify the parent of the mental health concerns, but um if a student is hospitalized or rapid response 988 is called u we are going to require that the student is the parents come and pick up that student. We just uh won't be able to provide the natural the the required supervision necessary um to Hey, Mr. Gray. um to ensure safety uh with this with the number of students that we have. Um again we had 30 so far 29 screeners um we had 5988 calls um but that's just what we what
we feel within the beginning of the day. So what we feel there are situations where students don't come in um the good thing I would like to say is that a lot of these cases do happen on Mondays when students come back from the week weekend. Um, and so that kind of to me tells me that we're do providing the right supports for students when we can Monday through Friday. Um, do we have any questions on that report before I continue? Just wanted to lay out our mental health team and I uh sat down to make sure that we laid out our plans just in case something were to happen. >> Eddie, I have one just to clarify. So, you said you said a couple times 29 screeners. You mean you've you've performed 29 screenings
so far this school year? Yes, this school year so far. Um, from there, that's the level. Fantastic. >> This is level one and level two would be a warrant to 988. Level three would be uh sent immediately to go see emergency care in a hospital. >> I really appreciate you including this because I don't know that a lot of parents understand the mental health crisis that can occur in this on we're learning a lot from the anxious nation too. You know, I think um uh but I'm really proud of our mental health team and the work that we're doing. I feel like we're providing the supports that we need for our students in the building and when we can. Um, just a quick uh over to my report before I kick it over to Mr.
Gray. Um, I our band concert yesterday was excellent. It was great to see our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders do a great job in the performance. Uh, Crazy Train was a big hit. Um, and our, uh, Cranky Elf was an excellent was an excellent performance there. So, uh, thank you to Miss Gay for putting that put putting that performance together. Um, Scholastic Book Fair was was a big hit. A lot of students went home with new books. It's great to see them exploring um and discovering new genres. Um, on the last page of the Washington DC report, we were able we were uh highlighted in the um in the Hampton Union for uh a field trip that the experimental experiential learning program did with the culinary playground in uh Derry, New Hampshire. students voted on
the lunch menu and when they went there they cooked um turkey and cheese pretzel rolls uh seasoned pita trips, dirt pudding cups and you know while they're doing that they're practicing accurate measuring, temperature control, time management, recipe sequencing and so on. Um thank you to all the parents for coming out to our parent teacher conferences. We had an overwhelming amount of people come uh our eighth grade team and several other teachers that were booked and so we've been having them uh having parents who wanted meetings come in during the day. So if anyone else needs uh a meeting just please feel free to reach out and thank you to our staff for um providing that extra time during their their planning and prep time. Um next coffee conversation will be tomorrow at 9:45 in the
community room. I will be sending out a Zoom link for anyone who cannot attend. Um Mr. Gray has done a really great job of uh organizing all of our athletics into a nice handy calendar um that we can find on our website. They'll be posted our up most up-to-date games. We know with the weather um coming along there might be some cancellations, so we'll be communicating out. Um, as far as last uh Saturday, November 29th, um our Interact Club had a great um showing over um with over with helping the Hampton Rotary assist in their 10K food shopping at Market Basket in Seabbrook. Um their challenge was to fill a basket with the necessary items while staying within an allotted budget. Very tough to do these days. Um so thank you to Mr. Dherty, Miss
Bowen, Miss Tombell, Miss Shepard for uh attending. It was a great event and a great way to give back. We're also excited to bring back our unified basketball. Um, thank you to Miss Jensen um for putting that all that hard work into getting us grandfunded there. We're excited um to bring a meaningful experience for our students with and without special needs. Um, in November, our student council Thanksgiving baskets were a huge hit. We adopted families this year and uh were able to provide meaningful baskets to different families within the community. School dance was on Friday. What a hit that was. Um I was very very pleased of all the inclusivity. Um couple of first dances were had. Um but yeah, it was really great to see some of the uh the cultural things that we
try to preach on a regular basis show up on a dance floor when we had every single student in seventh and eighth grade participate in a conga line. It was pretty crazy. Um with that said, um community fundraiser I mentioned and um coffee and conversation tomorrow. We're excited to come back from winter break where our first day was of ski club will be on January 9th. Um I'm going to kick it over to Mr. Gray who's going to talk about some of the trinkets that you have sitting on sitting on your desk and uh explain how everything was going on. >> Hi everyone. Sorry I just came right off a bus from a scrimmage. So when he said like hey need this. Yeah I can be here. Okay I know. Sure. But um anyway, some
of the things that you have around your desk, uh we've been doing some really fun stuff with 3D printing. I mean, obviously I have a great job cuz we're just like learning how to 3D print stuff and play with things. But um the sixth graders just finished up their 3D printed unit. You can see um some of the boats that were left. I will be honest with you, a lot of them took their boats home because they were so excited to um have them. Uh we put little windup motors on them and I kind of had them figure out, you know, how do you make a boat? They learned how to tinker things, right? They made the mazes. You can see the mazes that they have where they're able to design the maze inside of
it and then able to cut out the glass that goes with it and then have a little ball inside. So, they actually designed all of those and every single sixth grader was able to take one of those home. Um, and it has their name on them as well. I was trying to find things that they could take with them um that they designed. We also created a full chess piece um chess board. So every kid had their own unique take on a chess piece. They made their own like pawn first and then I said we rolled like a little spinny thing and they got to choose their different like oh I got a bishop, I got a knight. So we were able to with the new printer that we got through the um trustees grant.
We were able to print a full chess board of pawn like all the figures at once and with multiple colors because it has two different extruders on it. Uh, so that was really cool just to have the sixth graders. Everyone coming in is able to take home a couple items and then it was fun watching them do the boat races at the end where they're it wasn't a big pool but with the little um motors. You can see I kind of downsized my motors a little bit. That one's bigger cuz I was like the ones that Bamboo came with and those are like $7 or $8 a piece. But on Amazon they have smaller ones that are called coffee stirs. So I don't know if you'd want to put that on the side of your
coffee and let it stir. But they actually work propelling boats as well. So, that was really fun to see them do. Uh, we're I'm starting to implement some of the other features of the um 3D printer as well. Uh, because the printer that we got with the trustees allows us to actually have multiple attachments on it. So, you're seeing some of the wood engravings that we're working on. It actually has a 10 watt laser. And so, I've been able to um cut into some wood. We've been able to get um some metal where we can actually go through and um cut into those as well. Um, so it will cut through those different parts and also we'll laser engrave. So our eighth graders are working on photography right now and one of the assignments is
to take a photo and then get it prepped to be laser engraved. So they're all going to take home a small little piece of wood that's laser engraved with a picture that they edited down, grayscaled it, worked all those things together. Um, and then you'll see some different houses that are also being um, printed out. So what the seventh graders do for I try to do competitions every year. So, sixth grade has the boat races. Eighth grade has their robotics competition which has solid gold filament trophies for them. Um, and then they also have the seventh grade where they are 3D designing their homes and then 3D designing the buildings that go into a town. So, I actually make sure they can only choose like 17 items for a town. And it's interesting to see
how they decide which ones they choose and then they end up building all the different um buildings and they actually put them out and lay them out onto the town as well. So it's interesting to hear seventh graders talk about well maybe we shouldn't have six fast food restaurants and not a hospital. So it's good that they then start thinking about maybe we should get rid of you know um Chick-fil-A um and then have a hospital that goes with it. So, really been having fun kind of learning the different um ways that our Tinkercad um software can work with it and then having it go to the bamboo um printers cuz having two of them is helpful too because I've been able to do multiple prints of stuff. So, we've been able to have the
printer going constantly. Um when I was printing all the boats, they were both going in unison. Um and I I have a video too, I think. Um I don't know if it's loaded up. Yeah, loaded up. It just shows some of the um pictures from it. Um, the 3D printers also do time lapses as well, so we got a full look on the inside of them. Um, but I'm excited to continue building stuff with the 3D printing and the kids really get into it. Um, so it's a lot of fun. So I don't Is Nick running it in the back? Who's in the back? >> I can check for you. >> No, he's on it. Look, >> they didn't have to wait. They know what they're doing. I just had to know who to say.
>> Yeah, magic word. >> So, any questions about the 3D prints? Hopefully you got to see some different stuff. I was able to um take our um OT and a favorite of Gus onto um a piece of wood. So played with the different um textures. One thing I did today just to try it out was the Hampton Academy, the old building. Um it was a nice like hand it was like a watercolor paint that I was able to turn into a handdrawn thing and >> cut that out as well. So, it's been kind of a fun ad to the >> got an issue. Just FYI, >> can I ask a question while they're Yeah, go ahead. >> How how large a chess piece could you make? So, with the new printer that we have, I
mean, it can because I there was one boat that I could I didn't really like require them to have certain sizing. So, it printed straight up and it was probably like this tall and it still had plenty more to go. I >> I'll tell you why I'm asking. I'm kind of envision I have this vision in my head of either in the team areas or even out in the courtyard the large chess um setup. >> Oh yeah, >> I know. I know they have them at when I can picture it here where they have >> it takes up like a quarter of of you know a hallway >> and then could we get the pieces large enough so that the kids you know it's the >> so I the 3D printer is capable of doing
that um it would probably take about one piece per time >> and um I don't know if we have the film and budget >> but definitely I try to I try to spread it out so that no but I love that cuz it the the printer could actually print those full pieces. >> Yeah, I get it. >> So, here's the video up here that showcases some of the um 3D prints. You can see the mazes being done here, >> right? And there's students showing off the mazes. This is all the sixth grade stuff, but these are all the chest pieces being printed with the supports that go with it. So, more mazes. And so, these got their own put their name on it. They constructed it together. They got to do it. Um, get to
do some manual like construction of the stuff. But these these will print. Some of these will take like two or three hours to print like six or eight of them. I was able to do like six or eight at a time. Here's some of the boats. There were a few more there, but some learning curve on trying to get them to work without some spaghetti issues. But the printer does a great job of that, telling me, "Hey, there's a spaghetti thing. Stop it." But you see the kids that were competing in the different competitions. I'll be honest with you, I was doing a lot more teaching than taking photos. So, there was more of this, but this was the best that I could throw together. I try to remind myself to take photos. And then
this is our long pool, which was the perfect size. You can see a lot of them. the one that showcased from last year that won, I think it's in front of you, um, Miss Rea, that allows the, um, motor to stay still, so they're able to get to go straight. So, it was a nice engineering part on their >> their side. >> But, and of course, the ones that won, I didn't get on film. >> That's okay. >> And there's our trophies. >> Nice. >> All right. Right. So, that was our sixth grade um what sixth grade's um been doing for 3D printing. >> That's awesome. Does anybody have any questions or more comments? >> Congratulations. >> That's a great program. I love that. >> Nicely done. Kids really enjoy it. >> It's been great
to have the support, too, just to be able to do these different things and, you know, the trustees and just, you know, being able to get these different technologies. The kids are eating it up. They love it. >> Thank you. >> Thanks, Brian. >> Thanks for coming in. We appreciate it. >> Any other questions for me? >> All right, >> I think we're good. >> Happy holidays. >> Thank you. Happy holidays. All right, I think Miss Jensen is next on my list. >> Oh, I did. While Dena walks up, just a quick comment to all of the principles. Um, just by the way, I wanted to say thank you. I did notice the new I'm sure everybody else did too. did notice the new format for your reports where you guys are aligning your reports
uh your monthly reports for us with our goals um and kind of lining them up with how Dr. Costa has done hers for a little while. So, I just I really like that. I appreciated it. So, thank you. >> Sorry. Thanks, Steve. Go ahead. Thank you. Um so we've been working on trying to align procedures for all three schools um within the special ed department um and across multiple departments. So our weekly hot topic emails uh for the past month have kind of talked a little bit about the updates to Nessus which is our state information system where we write IEPs. They've made some updates which have kind of broken a few features. So, we've been talking through those. We've been working on Medicaid documentation for that Medicaid to schools reimbursement and also best practices
for meeting paperwork and things like that. The Hatch meetings have started again. We've had two. The most recent one was on November 19th. Things going on there. Pretty exciting. So, there's a subcommittee forum to work on starting a new website for Hatch along with building a social media presence just to get word out about the great work that they're doing. Um, there's also another task force looking at those Hatch bags which are called connection bags. So, they're bags with the Hatch logo and there's going to be resources and information in it for new parents. So, there's a coalition looking at getting that up and going. We're also going to be starting a newsletter. Um the focus of that will be on the four components or the four building blocks of hope which are relationships, environment,
engagement, and emotional growth. So those will be forthcoming in the next couple of months as well. It looks like on May 9th there'll be a literacy fair um featuring Very Hungry Caterpillar um partnering with the Children's Museum and Sebrook Reeds. Also um much like Dr. Campbell spoke of, we had our SAUwide mental health team meeting on November 20th again talking about those 988 calls and how important it is for us to partner with families. And I know that Dr. Costa is going to be talking a little bit more about the Cook Center, but just noting that that's a resource not only for parents, but for our staff and making sure the word is out about that. The other thing we talked about was being able to have resources for parents because our school counselors, social
worker, school psychologist are really there to help students be able to access the classroom. Obviously, things from home might come up. You could have the death of a pet, you know, what have you. But if there are ongoing issues that kind of go above and beyond the scope of the school day, we want to have resources for families to be able to consider. Have any questions for me? >> I think we're all set. Thank you. That was great. Thank you so much. Happy holidays. Happy holiday. Okay, Mr. Smith. Hello. Hello. Um, again, just to echo what everybody else is saying, we're just in full swing at this point. Um, dealing with everything as it comes up. Uh, pretty glad to hear that overall report card seem to have gone off without a hitch yesterday. Uh,
we didn't receive many complaints, if any. Um, and then we've also begun working with uh kind of reviewing all of our usage data on the programs that we have right now to kind of get a picture of where we are halfway through the year. Um, and see what we are using well, what we might need some additional training on and things of that nature. And beyond that, yeah, it's just a typical December at this point. So, I open up to questions from you guys. I think we're good. >> Thank you. >> We're shooting for a short uh December meeting. All right, Mr. Harington. Evening everyone. Um not a lot to report. Um it's I'm going to guess it's usual for December and uh just daily calls about heat or lack thereof. Um and all schools
honestly there was even one here at Hampton Academy. But um no just uh plugging along a little update on center school. We had a little bit of a um just a push back on that for time but other than that they're looking at the 22nd to start getting that balancing and getting it ready to rock and roll. Um the buildings are busy. Basketball has started. Uh so this school gets used a lot. Um Saturdays, Sundays. Um I've been in touch with the rec department just to get have them give me more of a a real time frame on those as opposed to having somebody here from 9 till 6:30 when they're only here from 11:00 to 4:00. So just in contact with Chad Arlington about that. And he's been great. Um I think I talked
about the incident IQ that we started just for like the tech uh it has for uh building uh requests that type of thing and that's been getting more and more involved. No, it's great honestly and I've been playing with it just to try to figure out I can actually take all of the >> the assets that we have air handlers I mean everything that we have and I can say okay this error handler had this problem. So when we can look at it later, we can do reports and say this error handler has been giving us a problem for, you know, every year type of thing. So >> that's great. So it's like it's like an asset management system sort of >> basically. Yeah, you can use it for that. Yeah. And I haven't got
I haven't put everything in yet, but I mean you could put your vacuum cleaners in there. You can label them all and Okay, we've had to do this to this one, this to this one. So yeah, I've just been playing with that a little bit and the teachers and staff have been using it more and more. So it's been good so far. That's it for me. Any questions? Good. Thank you much. Happy holidays. >> All right, Mrs. B. >> You did green. That's >> I wore green. >> Should have worn like a red tunnel, >> right? >> We have our lights on. >> Andrew's a little a little holiday. >> So, good evening everybody. So I guess I was asked to talk a little about uh the triannual assessment tracking form. Did you want to
>> Sure. >> for wellness. >> Yeah, that'd be great. That'd be helpful. That came up last night. >> So the key areas of the wellness policy and well nutrition education, physical activity, school board, I mean school based activities. That's the three keys. So it's an assessment form we get and just through the year we jot down what's happening in the schools. you know, walk to school, apple crunch day, uh, dances. So, and what the kids are eating. So, it's just an assessment what what we're doing and make sure that the assessment is what we're saying we're doing in the wellness policy for the kids. So we do that and then in June we have to make sure we're doing okay, check the boxes and then we send it to the state either the well assessment
or the wellness policy that says we're we're doing what we're supposed to do. >> That's it in a nutshell and we are doing what we're supposed to do. >> All right. >> And I don't know if you want to talk about student debt. It's the holidays. >> Right now we're about 47. talk about it next month. >> Okay, good. >> I mean, if anybody has any questions, don't let me stop you, but I I it's a tough time for families to work on their student debt. So, >> just saying. >> Um, feel free if you have anything to say. I'm not saying don't talk about it. Just um I did actually a sure just a very minor thing. Um, these reports are great. Um, I'm guessing you borrowed it originally from Hampton Falls and it
still says Hampton Falls on the top. >> Yes, I'll get rid of that. >> It's just in the header. She was Yeah, it's in the head. I'll >> totally fine. >> Um, I do love this. >> I reinvent the wheel. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. >> Absolutely. No, no, no. Ste stealing stuff like uh like spreadsheets. Absolutely. But yeah, >> I completely believe in that. Um, >> I'll I'll I'll fix that. >> Yeah, that's minor. I just I was kind of asking last month. So the highlighted things on the um on the menu, are those like USDA commodities? >> Correct. So those are the commodities. >> That's why they show a zero dollar, >> right? Try and >> Okay, that's awesome. Thank you. >> Intertwine them with the menu. Keep obviously costs down. >> Yep. Anybody have
any questions for Miss Borg while she's here? >> All right. Happy holidays, everybody. Thank you. >> All right. necessarily for us. >> Okay. Sure. >> So at the end of the year, Mary has to do or the end of three years, >> right? >> She has to do a report and send it in >> on the wellness. >> Yep. >> Has it always been the food service director? >> Okay. And just a thought, but if we are having the wellness committee do an end of the year report, it might be good for us to have all of the committees do an overview at the end of the year on what they've done >> and maybe even have that part of the submission, like when we put our budget books or whatever to the town so
they can see. I I would just like to see the public so that they could know all of the stuff that goes on and that it's not just this random Tuesday night once once a month kind of thing. Am I making any sense? >> Yeah. Yeah. You know, I I'm I'm all for that. The other thing we are doing is every time we give our board reports, that's why we're aligning them to the goals. Like we have those three goals, right? The communication, the safety, and the curriculum. I think um the purpose for reporting out and to in include some of those committee meetings in there is to basically give people progress right updates so that um people recognize what we're working on. And I think it's it's worked out well. And um the fact
that people will chime in and like I've got a recent email um from from a parent that was just saying, you know what would be really helpful and you chimed in and so what we're going to do is we're going to make some changes for January where you know we definitely can include the agenda with my newsletter and then the following week we can definitely include the link to the YouTube posting. So those are the kinds of things that are ongoing and I think the goals are there to help guide us and to prioritize but at the same time um I think there's flexibility built into what we do to make the changes that need to be to be made as we go. So so that's what we're doing. The the tricky part truthfully is
and we were talking about this today is the amount of policies and policy changes that are coming at us Andrea >> like that that it's fast it's furious and it's funny if you start to look at some of the dates of these policies you're going to say Lois we just updated this in 2024 why are we updating it in 2025 and we are updating it because there is a change in law There is over a thousand pieces of legislation right now staring us all in the face and um I have to say Erin is very organized and on top of this but we are looking at just so you know 18 policies a month and we are at that scratching to keep up with it. So just so you know that um I think we're
all trying to do the best we can in light of the changes that are coming fast and furious. I know that um Mariah, I know you're you're trying to do that, but I'll be honest with you, we're hap we're happy to do that. But I can tell you right now, we're working on these every single day on a weekly basis because we don't have time to wait till June. Quite honestly, it it is I mean, walk a mile, >> right, >> in our in our shoes and we're a small office, so it's not like I can delegate it to my assistant or this one or that one. It really is the seven of us and trying to that trickle down effect even in our leadership meetings where we're spending time on policies because they're coming
so fast at us. But I'm I'm okay with doing that. the policy committee. That may be really really difficult to do obviously because like you say they're coming at you. But for instance, she's doing a report on what's happened in the wellness committee for the three years >> which came out of our policy which came out of a legislative pass. >> I guess what I'm thinking is maybe it's more like our strategic plan that we have. Maybe we just need to report out in broad in broad ways how what what progress we we made. I guess I'm I'm not being very succinct on this. I'm sure they take minutes, right? >> The committees and >> absolutely. >> So what if we did something with the minutes, Andrea, at the end of the year that kind
of could put it in perspective? >> That would be great. >> Do you know what I mean? Because then that's not like reinventing a >> Exactly. >> Yeah. Okay. like our wellness. I do see I do see kind of what Andrea is talking about and I don't know I don't know end of the calendar year right because that puts them right in the middle of their school year but >> some of the committees like curriculum like wellness some of the bigger ones having on at the end of the school year >> what progress was made what did we what did we achieve this year on the curriculum right what did we achieve this year you know just the this is where we started and this is what we this is the finished >> y product,
but the finished area. So, and it doesn't have to be anything great, but just so that we can have a way to show the public that >> we're not just spinning our wheels, >> but again, the policy committee, that's another whole story because there's way too many of them coming at us, >> right? But just so you know, a lot of the trickle down effect does come as a result like the one that you referred to came out of a policy, >> right? So that's where it gets >> that's kind of sometimes where they're all stemming from. >> Yeah. >> Right. A policy will dictate a change in our practice. So we are abiding by the laws >> on top of all the >> No, I know. I I know. You know, I just >>
absolutely >> in the and again the effort to be transparent and say these are the things that we've achieved. >> Just so you know. >> Yeah. No, and I and I think that's why we're going to talk about the Cook Center tonight. We're going to talk about the data and and even in my report I try to um give you updates in terms of you know what we are doing so that people know that we're we are being intentional on the work and it's not like we're um not being thoughtful I guess and trying to utilize every moment we have. >> I think we are ready for Dr. Cos's report. So, so with that said, um to to that end, the first one, the first goal that we do have is specifically around communication. So,
that's goal one. So, if you notice, we talked about reporting and using Alma to for parents to access reports. We also um working with staff on standardizing email signatures, which has been something that we're trying to um have those through lines that run through all three schools. So doing those kinds of things. Um we are working with Aptigy. They host our website and trying to um make some changes to that which is proving to be a little more challenging than we thought it was going to be. But it's something that that Mr. Smith and I are continuing to to be on top of them about. We want to make some changes to make this um easier for families, right? Which is again something that we've been talking about. um in in terms of the handbook.
So, this is another one, right, that has been brought up again and again and again. You're probably like, "Okay, but what are you doing with the handbooks?" Well, so let me tell you what we're doing with the handbooks. So, every year we we do look at the handbooks and we update them. But what we did this year is with our new administrative assistant, she is looking at them with a keen eye. That means our substitute handbook, our staff handbook and our pan parent handbook. She is looking at formatting. She is looking at content. She is running it, you know, running it through the leadership team. We are going to run it through the legal department to make sure we have everything we need. And then what we're going to do is our goal is to
have them to you by the end of the year for a first and second read so that we can have a a really nicely updated and a very thorough hopefully um comprehensive staff handbook, parenthood handbook, and substitute teacher handbook. And it it does take time just so you know because Yeah. >> Just a quick question if you don't mind. Are there Are we looking to have those in the appropriate places available online? >> Absolutely, we can. >> That would be I think that that would be great. I mean, obviously, you know, your your staff and your substitute handbooks don't necessarily need to be available for everyone. That's an employee thing, you know, that you might want to have >> substitute ones in sub ready. So, that could be a location because that's where they log
into. So, there's places. >> Yeah. For the parent handbook, I would think the parent handbook should be available on on our website. Yeah. So once obviously you guys are going through it but when we get to the end of that process. >> Yeah. Absolutely. Yep. That's that's easy very easy to do but though but that that does take time right you know and it is um extensive. And then of course um you know Emily Fixler is working with our families and businesses and and interact as you said with Hampton Academy and making sure that we are taking care of our families at this time of year. That's really important to us. Um, we talked about the policies and there are we're doing easily 18 a month and we're and it's a lot of work, right?
It is a lot of work for everybody. Um, of course, we were part of the parade this Saturday. Um, it was great to be to be there. It's great to see kids that wanted to join us. Um, and then of course we talked about the tree lighting the night before. And then this Thursday we are going to be talking to the budget committee about our budget. So we'll be doing that. Um and then underneath our physically, emotionally and safe learning environment. Um Sue Antico continues to work with um our schools counselors on our multi-tered systems of support, cell strategies and mentoring new staff. We are also um working with the state on our multi-tered systems of support. We went to uh myself and the administrators went to a tier one training, a tier 2, three
training in November. So doing that to hopefully see some changes in what we're doing at a school level. The goal is to impact students and so that we are giving students what they need. Looking at that data, being mindful of how we progress monitor and how do kids enter for support, how are we progress monitoring when they're in support, and how do they exit support. Those are those are important criteria that we're looking at to help us um basically ensure that we're using our resources appropriately because those are limited as we know. And then of course we talk a little bit about the safety drills. We know that those are required of us at this time of year. We're doing a little more um lockdowns, that kind of thing, only because of the weather. We
have our second year of partnership with the Cook Center. I'm going to go over that in just a bit and share with you the data and talk a little bit about um recommendations that they have for us and answer any questions you have about that. And then of course, as Dena said, one of the things that we talked about with our mental health team, which meets monthly, and Dina and I both attend that, is what do we do with 988 screeners? And um Dr. Campbell alluded to this when we do not refer to 988 rapid response and what safety measures are being put in place to ensure these children are safe. That's something that um has been on my mind because as you know I get all the copies of the 988 screeners and my
question is is okay they were not referred to this was not called in and you heard many are not but what happens to those students? How do we ensure their safety? That's something that weighs heavily on my mind. Um it's interesting um that that there are children that are reaching out to adults on the weekends when they are not in good places and that includes staff and we we deal with that even this past weekend. So we do worry about our students. And then of course we talk our third goal is specifically related to curriculum and we know that report cards are our link with families communicating how how children are doing. But what I would say is that although we only have two official conference times, we do encourage our parents to reach out
anytime they have a question. Don't wait for parent conferences. That's that is two times, but we encourage parents to reach out. It's important to do that. Um talked a little bit about the RTI meetings as it relates to our multi-tered systems of support and really trying to develop some district goals around multi-tered systems of support and how do the principles lead that work. That's conversations at our leadership meeting. And then of course one of the things that we're going to be looking at beginning the second half of the year is is our star data giving us what we want and that has been the assessment we've been using for the past six years anyway to progress monitor students in addition to the New Hampshire SAS and if it's not is there something better that we
might want to consider whether it's the NI was excl Well, I ready or something else. So, being mindful of that data, is it giving us the information we need? You heard um principles talking about demonstrated success as it relates to differentiated instruction. And then of course in January, we do want to um take a look at our teacher effectiveness plan and do an extensive review to ensure that we're providing our staff with meaningful feedback that helps them improve as professionals. That's always the goal. Um schools will be sending representatives along with district leadership. I welcome a board member if they wish to be on this as we do a review. We're happy to have somebody if you're interested in that work. we would be happy to have you. I can let you know when those
meetings are. I don't anticipate there being a lot of meetings, but there will be several meetings that will start sometime in the second half of the year. And I think that's that's really it. Are there any questions for me? You notice you notice that I included the newsletter from the Cook Center on holiday stress, mental health, and how to cope. Although this is a happy time of year, we also know this is a very stressful time of year for our families and for our students. So I um this letter is on our website. It was sent out with families is my newsletter. It goes as an attachment. And then you notice that there is also a calendar of events which the Cook Center offers including um an opportunity to ask a therapist live December 9th.
That's tonight at 8:00. So parents who have a specific question um can go on and ask and their question and get their answers. This is also something that we share with our families as well. So just trying to be mindful of the anxiety that we hear about, the stress that we hear about and the impact we know it has on students and learning and and also impacts our staff and our adults, right? We're none of us are immune to this. So the the importance of self-care and taking care of yourself so you're better able to take care of your loved ones. So, I think it's an important message to remind everybody of as we work through the month of December. That's all I have. Thank you very much. Let's go through our consent agenda. Yeah,
I do this. Let's see. So, we have rearranged that a little bit and moved it up because I wanted to um to move checks and donations to the consent agenda and um we did want to uh vote on the checks while the um administration was here. So, for the consent agenda this month, we have meeting minutes of November 18th. We have, let's see, we have a check for center school from the PTA for $100. And we have, let's see, is that it? And we have a check for $500 from the PTA for the Marson Library. So, we are going to vote on all of those at one time, unless someone has a specific question or needs to pull any of those out for discussion. Okay. the minutes at the same time. Do I have to
abstain from all of it? >> Um, probably. Yeah. >> Yeah, that's probably the easiest way to do it. >> Yeah, that's fine. Um, so would anybody like to move to approve the consent agenda? >> I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda and the checks as well. Sure. >> And again, that is from uh PTA. >> Yep. And was it all PTA? >> PTA and PTA. >> Yeah. Okay. So, I make a motion to accept all that. >> A second. Okay. All in favor? All opposed? All abstained. All right. So, guys, I think we are good for um all of that. We do have new business draft calendar. So, so as you know, um I thought it was important to put this on your radar and one of the pieces of legislation that is
um before the House and the Senate right now is to start after Labor Day and we we're people are kind of waiting to hear that's going how that's going to shake out. However, um I have received word from the Department of Ed that if this were to pass, it would not go into effect ne next year, but it would be 2027. Um if you look at the calendar, I just thought it would be important to start thinking about it. You will see that next year, Labor Day is like this year it was as early as it could be. Next year is as late as it could be. So, Labor Day next year is on September 7th, just to let you know. Um you can see that we proposed a calendar similar to similar to what
we have which means that our students first day of class or school would be on September 1. So you can see in even at that the last day of school is June 21st. That's barring no snow days. So you can see that um the later we start the later we get out. So if we were to start let's say on September 8th, it would basically without snow days put us back till the >> the 25th and or possibly later because of >> possibly later. >> Yeah. Junth and things like that. Y >> so I'm not sure how that's going to land. Um, we do want to be, you know, we want to consider SAU 21 because those are our families. Um, but I just thought it was important for you to take a look at
this just to kind of have it on your radar. We will obviously want to hear what SAU 21 does. We want to hear what our career and technical center does because there is that um there is a piece of legislation as well that says that we have to be in alignment with all of the schools that go to the career and technical center. So but this is what we are looking at you know as of right now just to have that in front of you to be thinking about. I do say I have to say I love that we have moved almost all of our half days, not all, but almost all of our half days and our full PD days to Fridays. >> Y I I think for families that that's great. >> Yep.
So again, trying to take that feedback that we get from from the people that we serve and really trying to show that we we hear you, we're listening, and we are trying to make those efforts. So thank you. >> That's that. Okay. We already did cook center. So, >> no batch or pot. >> No, we didn't. We We I have a um Oh, >> you have a different Oh, sorry. I thought we were good. >> Please. >> I actually have um >> since we've had So, we've had the Cook Center for about a year. I thought it would be interesting for you to see some of the data that we have because um I think people are curious, you know, what is the Cook Center? Is it being used? How I thought it would be
it would be timely since this was something that was brought to my attention by a board member because Winnottton High School was using the coaching se session or the section of the cook center. So um we looked into it. In fact, Sarah Walsh um actually came to the New Hampshire School Administrators Association and presented. And when I started to look at the different pieces of it, I really felt that um there was an opportunity here to really help out our families, to help out our community. And so, we actually have um several components of the Cook Center. And they are actually coming again in June to present to the New Hampshire School Administrators Association. um given the interest by many of the districts around our state. So the Cook Center is their their goal is
simple. They are helping schools help parents help their children and that's really what it's all about. So if you look at their three tier models, their their goal is that or their thinking is that in their three- tier models, they have their belief is that all families can benefit from the courses led by licensed mental health professionals to help the parents support their children's mental health. So this is a resource for staff and parents to understand children to understand something that might be going on specific in their family that will help hopefully give them some support, some resources and a place to go. And then of course in addition to their their um courses that they offer, they also offer a mental health series and there are different topics that will address the many um
parenting challenges that families do face. And then for those families that are most in need, they can actually have individualized parent coaching. This is all part of um the contract that we have with them. So I want to talk about each of those areas because I wonder at times if families are aware of this. So we actually started using the Cook Center November 1st of last year. So it's been about a year. So I want to share with you just a little bit of data. So if you take a look at this, you can see the green is actually last November to September of 2025. And then you see from 11 to 24 to 11:25. You get a sense of from year to year total active users. So you see we went from 263 active
users and last year to this year we have currently 359 active users. And then if you look at the the pages that were viewed and in order to count they actually had to go in and um it's very intentional. They had to provide their contact information otherwise it wasn't counted because they really wanted to make sure people were engaged. So again it went from you can see from 560 to currently 720. So you get a sense of um that there is a number of families that are actually engaging in the website which is which is good to see. We can go to the next slide. And then of course the question becomes well what what are what are parents looking for? what is it that um parents are interested in? And these are the top
four areas that were most viewed by our families. And you can see connecting with your child by parenting with purpose, what parents need to know, teenage suicide prevention and warning signs of suicide, emotional regulation, recognizing what's wrong, and then of course parenting through anxiety and depression, which is not surprising in light of the conversations we've had earlier this evening. Next slide. So let's talk a little bit about what's available to our families. We do offer any family an opportunity for coaching and this is all HIPPA protected. That means the school doesn't know who doesn't know what's happening. This is all HIPPA protected. But what what happens is is that they will give what's called a parent attunement questionnaire. And the purpose of that questionnaire is to measure the connection between the parent and the child
and the impact on mental health, keeping an eye on long-term positive outcomes. And you can see those six areas that we're really looking at. So, family connection, communication, emotions and emotional well-being, social connections with the child, social activities, and parent and child technology use. And it's about 17 questions. And you can see the questionnaire and it's a rating scale on a likered scale of one through five. So you can see the kinds of questions that they're asking that have to do with family connections. My child is comfortable talking with at least one person in our family. I put my phone down while my child is talking to me. Communication. I worry my child is struggling but I don't know how to talk with him or her. I struggle to be patient with my child. I
often yell at my child. My child is anxious. I am anxious. I get angry at my child for small things. My child has at least one close friend. My child has difficulty making friends. And you can see the kinds of questions that they're asking so that they can best determine how they can help and support the parents. And then of course based on how they fill out this attunement questionnaire, they create what's called coaching road mapaps and it's a step-by-step guide that help families tackle parenting and mental health topics with practical tool to tools and support. And you can see that um on the right side and it's very small but it actually shows the coaching road mapaps options. So, for example, and I know Nick, you probably can't make it bigger, but there's um
it's all alphabetically, but you can see like things like addiction, um anxiety, tools to um navigate anxiety, understanding anxiety, um surviving and thriving during the holidays. I mean, it's it's quite a um insomnia, tools to navigate insomnia, attachment styles, attuning to your child, um basic needs, boundaries that stick, boundaries that stick in Spanish. So, there's also the Spanish component as well. Deescalating cycles of conflict, facing OCD, guiding your child through difficult times, helping your child when they're bullied, how digital med media is changing children's mental health, how to medicate, how to motivate your child. So, parenting with purpose, parenting with purpose in Spanish, principal-based parenting, um protecting our children by staying aware and involved. So, social social school avoidance, supporting your child's mental health, and you can see that these are the coaching roadmap options.
So these coaches will set clear goals and action steps and then of course personalized coaching along the way. And these coaches reach out to these parents and they can either be virtual meetings, phone calls, and it's it's really up to the coach and the parent to figure out the best way they want to do it. And it's very personalized based on the parent schedule, based on what they prefer. So there's lots of flexibility with when and how these co this coaching does take place. And so here are some of the testimonies from our parents. Why do you feel you need coaching? And things like social skills and boundaries, listening and self-regulation, talking to my son about what's bothering him. I suddenly stepped into a full-time parenting role. The transition has been emotionally heavy. While things
have gone more smoothly than I expected, I still feel drained. She places very high expectations on me and constantly compares herself to my younger child, making me feel like nothing I do or provide is ever quite enough. And then it goes on, managing my child's anxiety and school refusal. Anxiety and school avoidance. I'm helping raise my grandchild. She's a bright kid, but has a hard time staying calm, listening, and handling frustration both at school and at home. She also struggles when limits are set, especially with screen time. Her early life has been unstable, and I can see it. It still affects her. Even with all the activities she's involved in, it feels like we're constantly trying to help her manage it, manage big feelings and challenging behaviors. And then you can see um the coaching
program registrations and how that has escalated in the year and how many how many children it's helping. So you can kind of get a sense of you know our numbers with as it relates to the coaching and then what does coaching engagement look like? Again there's that assessment, there's check-ins, there's loginins, there's messages. So messages that um clients can send to their coach and then there's sessions where there it's one-on-one coaching meetings. So it's it's pretty um it's pretty extensive and you can see the total um engagement. It's not surprise that you know the summer we obviously had that dip but last year we noticed that when the program started we were at 115. There was a dip in December, which is not surprising giving that busy time of year. It dipped down to 94
and then it went up in January to 143. Kind of went down in February and you can see that right now we are at 43 um coaching engagement families. So, just want to make sure parents are aware of this. This is just a resource. It's it's free. it's hippoprotected. Um, and then there were some reviews that parents have left. Um, just that their parents are feeling hope hopeful that there was kindness and understanding and that's really what we're trying to do. When we help our parents, we can help our children. And and to the point made earlier in our meeting, we are here to support parents. We don't we don't want to um we want to support you and that's our role is just to support you. And we realize it's not easy. Um it's
never been harder to be a kid. There's a lot that um we see children are navigating because of social media and just because of the world that we live in, but we really are trying to help our our children and by helping our families, we believe we're helping our children. So, just wanted to share that because it's been it's been a year. I like you are we get are we getting out of this what we want to get out of this? Um are we feeling it's having an impact? So, Um, so I guess a couple of thoughts come to my mind. First of all, I think we need to have another I don't know if the PTA could do this, but it seems like that would be another venue to get this information out. I
think we need to personalize this more. I think parents are maybe sitting at home going, "Yeah, well, whatever. I'm busy." And not realizing how useful it can be in their own personal situation. But I think we need testimonials or we need um and we need it promoted by people who are willing to step up and say, "Hey, I've used it. This is how I used it with my kid." I know HIPPA and I know we have to respect people's privacy for sure, but I wish we could get some parents who people know in our community that have used it that can say, you know, don't be afraid. Go ahead. You know, you should use it. And I'm only I'm wondering if maybe something like um talking to the PTA about this could be a start
to pushing it out >> in a more personal manner. >> Yeah. >> Am I off base on that? I >> No, no, I understand. I just it is >> it is often as we all know when your family is at its most vulnerable and and I don't know that a lot of families would be super comfortable >> being really public about it but trying to figure out ways to get it out to everyone so they understand what it is and what the services are and how to access it. Absolutely. We need to >> maybe presented >> to the PTA And we could I don't know. I I'm I'm happy to do this. I'm I'm happy to do that. You know that. Um what I'm what I'm So I was speaking with um Lisa Lane who
is in charge of the Cook Center and I said, "What's your re you know, what's your recommendation?" And she said a couple of things. She goes, "I'm happy to um to be at a staff meeting virtually for 15 minutes just to remind teachers because it's teachers who are really um on the front lines with our students, right? >> So again, you know, a lot of times it comes up at a conference or it comes up where, you know, all of a sudden you have a student in your class who just isn't him or herself, right? They are just not themselves. you're talking to the parent and again as a reminder that the Cook Center is a resource. I know the mental health team um has the emblem >> on their signature. A lot of them
do. Um and I'm just thinking that we we should be raising the awareness. I agree with you, Yandrea. Um I'm happy to go to the PTA, but I do think that um sometimes it's the people the the teachers, they are the first line. and they are talking with them. That's who um that's the first point of contact, right, for any parent. And I'll give you just one other example. I happen to be, as you know, I do my walkthroughs through the building and I happen to walk in and was talking with a staff member who was really um going through something personally and I said, "Had you thought about contacting the Cook Center?" She goes, "Oh my god, no, I didn't." and we together maneuvered it and um she got herself a coach and went
back a few weeks later and said, "How's it going?" She goes, "Oh my god, it's the best thing I could have ever done and I didn't even realize it." So, it's even even something like that where we think people know about it, but I don't know if they do. And um I do think that a staff meeting is is a way to ensure that >> even and she said I I'm 15 minutes but that was her recommendation was that but I'm happy to go to a PTA meeting. I'm think I'm seeing Jen Mlelen and I hate to call you out in the audience, but you I'm just wondering I know that we talk about even the attendance at the PTA meetings and I don't want to put you on the spot, but if you think
that is something you want to do, you know, I'd be there. >> Yeah, agreed. So, even more than it's being done, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. You just tell me when you want me and I'll be there. Yeah. I'm happy to be there. You know that. So, yeah, I'll go in January, February, whenever whenever is can works with your calendar. Um but absolutely we'll we'll try to get the word out there through through um staff meetings because it's going to come up at our leadership meeting next time next Tuesday and then we're going to um try to in January February try to get that out to all staff and then I'm happy to go to a PTA meeting. Absolutely. I I also wonder um if like the timeliness of the surviving and thriving the
holidays might be a good one to kind of do a push on because it might be that thing that gets people's foot in the door cuz I feel like it's a little bit less of a scary >> idea cuz everybody's like, "Oh, the holidays. It's kind of not taboo in public for people to be like, "Oh, the holidays are so hard." So, I just wonder if that's one we can evaluate really pushing. Maybe we could link that to um a your one of your Friday. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um yeah, we can we can definitely do that. Um I I feel like um I've been putting it in the newsletters. I've been putting the calendar. Um and one of the one of the feedback I got was stop being redundant. So I try not to
be redundant, you know, but at the same time I am I really want people who to access this because it is I think it could be just a thing that some people might need. But yeah, no happy to do that >> always. So yeah. >> Do we have any more questions or comments about the Cook Center? >> Oh, I'll keep you posted on the data with that. >> Awesome, too. Thank you. >> Welcome. All right, let's talk about the batcheler pond property. So, everybody has a handout. Um, it's basically the same thing that you guys received as an email. We have essentially three letters over the years from various attorneys um 1999, 2017, and then a more recent one um since we've sort of started talking about it again. And from reading through these, number
one, my general feeling is that they all seem to convey that the property belongs to the school system to do with as we will. That's what it looks like to me. We're we're looking at about it's about 36 acres altogether that were donated by three different entities. Um I did not know until I read this that a big chunk of it actually was from the Kuanas Club. Um and then two families, the batch elder families um did donate the rest of it. So, I guess I provided these um we've been trying to figure out what to do and how to go forward. And I think what I would like to ask from the board is tonight is I would like a a vote if you guys are up for it for your what your message
would be for how we feel we would like to dispense with the property because I do feel that we in general would like to do something with the property. I personally would like to give the property to the town, put it in conservation and also make it available for the recreation department to use. Um there is some question as to whether that requires a warrant article or does not. Um there are a lot of sort of details about it. So, I was hoping tonight, if you guys are comfortable with it, that I would like to ask the V board to vote on on that specific thing to say that we would like to we would like to to give it to the town, that we would like to have it available for the recreation department
to use for basically educational things for our our children and families in town and that we would like to be placed into conservation so that it could not be developed. And then my intention, if you guys would like to direct me to do that or anyone else, if somebody else would like to do that, is to put together we we need to meet with um Gordon Graham, who's our attorney, um with Briana from the Conservation Commission, with Renee from Wreck, um and possibly um Keith Lassard, who was talking about this recently at the planning committee, I believe. um and obviously somebody from from the school system. So that's I think that's where we are. I would love to get this done this coming spring and have this done and moved along. I don't know that
we can get it done that quick. Um Mr. Graham did mention that he was going to work on a draft um >> warrant article >> just in case. >> Yeah, just in case. So I haven't actually seen that yet. Um >> um I called him on Monday. It's um it's that time of year where everybody's doing union and all that. So, he's really busy. >> Um but he has two other people looking at all of the stuff that I gave him. Great. >> And backing it up um and going through all of it so that it can be a clear cut. >> Yep. >> Wording. Yep. We just need to know we need to we need to get everybody together in the same room and figure out do we need a warrant article or not?
What does warrant article exactly need to say do we need to have you know a town you know generally what what are next steps? >> Well according to this he says that a warrant article is required to transfer title to district property. >> Yes. >> Okay. So we do need a warrant article which he is working on. Yes. Yes. >> Um, we just need to tell him what details need to be put into the warrant article. >> Um, and >> did you say a copy of the deed you you have? >> I have not. Let's see. Actually, is there >> locations? And he was going to pull that. Yes. >> And it's a a deed, not a dead. >> A deed, not a what? >> The second line at the end there in that paragraph
is >> send me a copy of the dead. Okay, gotcha. >> Yes, >> made me chuckle. >> Um, >> that would be nice. >> So, personally, I'm on the same page in terms of I think the appropriate um way to handle this is to give it back to the town and ideally for the recck department for that use. But I >> my concern would just be we don't have feedback yet from what at least from what I saw from the attorney of what kind of restrictions can we put on this transfer? I know we can, but um is that the ne is that maybe the appropriate next step is to say present to us our options? >> Yes, that's I my intention is to try to get all of these people together in one room.
They all sort of have different opinions about it. Um when I talked to the conservation commission, she did not feel that we would need a warrant article on it. Our our attorney says that we do. Um I've spoken to the town manager. he actually does not feel we need to transfer it to the town that we would just need to change our deed restrictions. So there have been a lot of different opinions about how to get where we want to go. So I guess I for tonight was just looking for an actual vote to confirm what we wanted to what what our intention was what we want to do see happen with the property. >> So do you want me to make a motion? >> That would be great. Okay. I'll make a motion that
we continue to pursue um actively and quickly. >> Yes. Um, our hopeful transfer of the bachelor upon property from our district to the town slashconservation commission slashrec department slash >> to to the you know the entities that we would like to have this go to. >> And would you like the chair to pursue those opportunities? >> And I would like the chair to pursue that. >> Thank you. So that was a motion. Perfect. >> A second. >> All right. Does anybody else have any comments or questions? >> I would just say I agree with all of that just with, you know, with the appropriate um restrictions. >> Yes. Exact. Abs. When I originally started the conversation with the conservation, >> they said that there you can when once you start putting it in process, you
can actually put whatever you want in there like no trees taken down or no like >> Yep. I just I guess so it's really I think that would be the next >> Y >> committee meeting when you're having that conversation would be Yeah. Perfect. >> All right. Okay. All in favor? All right. So I will I will get to work on that. too sweet. >> So, do you want to try one of the first things I I imagine you would have to do is try to set a date to get all parties concerned. >> Correct. >> To come together and that would probably be contingent upon when the lawyer could meet. >> Yes, absolutely. So, I I'll I'm going to try to give him a call and talk to him. I know Mariah has been
working with him and we will >> Okay. >> We will see when we can get together because >> does that involve some sort of public forum just um >> Well, I believe so. And so if we could get this done in time to um to have it on the the spring for the spring town meeting, then we would actually need to have it for our what is our meeting? >> January our annual >> Yes. Our annual deliberative session. That's the word. February February beginning. So we would Yes. So it would be presented at the deliberative session and then voted on at the the town meeting which is town election. So All right, great. Thank you. I'm gonna try to get I'm going to try to get this done. >> Well, keep us posted if you
need us to do any >> like quick emergency meeting of some type. >> Yep. And if anybody wants to go to these meetings, you're any anybody who wants to come is more than welcome. >> Okay. >> Posted. We'll go. >> All right. >> We'll be there. >> Yep. Um Okay. Mariah Curtis, business administrator. That's me. Yep. Um, so I can't believe it's December already. >> I know. >> So you'll see all my November numbers. We're really working through um the expenditures right now. We're trying to get everything um that we processed in December done. Um so we can report in January W2s, our 1099s, all that's coming up really fast. Um so we're working on clean up for that. Um, while doing so, just the budget, Thursday night, Lois and I will be at the
town hall at 6 o'clock. So, feel free to come visit us. Um, we're going to be talking with the budget committee on our budget. Um, once that is done and complete, you'll find all my information on the SA90 website, and that's sau90.org. And if you go under operations, it will be under the business office under voting information and then it will have a year and that's where that information will sit. Um for the start you will see executive summary which is the estimated tax impact form. You will see um the presentation that I will be having on Thursday there and that will be under proposed budget. And then there'll be a draft warn article and a draft budget um all under those items. Um but that may not get there until the following Monday. Um
but it it will be there right after Thursday. Probably if I'm in conquered for New Hampshire ASBO on Friday. So, if I can't get the information to the tech department on Friday while I'm there, I will have it done on Monday at the latest on our website. Um, but if there's any questions, feel free to contact me. But again, um, that's a recorded meeting, so we'll be on the public channel. Um, we also have a budget video that I'm hoping to that will be done for Thursday that we'll present there. If not, we will definitely have it on our website. will bring it to a board one of the board meetings and show it. Um but that's on the in the works. Also, um grants have been approved. So, they're finally um fully approved and
up and running. So, you'll see each uh month that I will pick a grant and show you the breakdown of um how we encumbered the grants. Um and then food service is doing good. We uh are have not received October November revenue so it's definitely going to look um shorted right now and I definitely you you see the cost per meal. So there will defin definitely be a deficit but I don't think it will be terrible but we're just working through that right now. Um, other than that, it's just the basic um basic items that we're running through. Okay. I have a couple of quick questions. Yeah. Um, on the grant that provides services to Sacred Heart for special ed, it says, um, students that have an ISP, is that the same as an IEP?
>> Yes. >> Okay. That's what I just wanted to make sure to clarify that. Okay. Second, when you present on >> who did it? Yeah. >> When you present on Thursday, will you be pre be presenting the estimated tax impact? >> I always do. >> Okay. We did that last year. I I always do. It's not on the Warren article, but I always have it in my presentation in an act. It's in it's a form called executive summary that's always on the website. It's always on a flyer that I do that's always um presented everywhere. >> Um and um so it's in multiple locations. Where do we stand? So but on this particular presentation and on the video >> you you will not be putting >> you don't have to put the >> what were
the other two things that you needed to put on there? You needed >> so on my warrant article I need to put um cost per student, >> right? And I need to put in the um >> achievements. >> Student achievements. >> Achievements. Okay. But you don't have to do that for this Thursday night. >> No. And they're not on there because they do not have cost per student out as of yet. Okay. Um they were waiting for a couple DOE25s from other school districts that have not completed theirs yet, and they can't do that until they're all done. Um I reached out actually today to look to see, and I'm hoping that I will have it by Thursday, but I don't think I will. But it will be on there before I finalize my work.
>> If you don't have it by Thursday, you might want to just mention it. >> Oh, that I definitely am going to that. Those are the two things that because it's still in draft form, >> right? Okay, perfect. And has the state provided any kind of guidelines for how we're going to present the student achievement information. >> That's another problem that I'm having. So, >> student achievement can mean many things. The data is presented in many Lois got an idea on how um Southeaster is going to do theirs, but I don't know if it's going to be in the actual budget warrant article or if it's going to be on the um the voting >> Yeah. voting information. >> Voting information in front of the actual warrant articles. So I um again I have New
Hampshire Asbor Friday. Some of these questions um are going around. We Lois and I have been going back and forth about a couple other um warrant articles that we weren't sure if we had to do or not because of all the laws are changing. Um we don't have to thank goodness but yes so it is still going to be completely in draft form because there are changes constantly right now with law. So, the Southeaster are going to define it as the state defines it to um show what the um the average score will be for achievement in all the grade levels. And we'll be using the state's numbers. We felt like that was going to be the easiest way to do it. So, if they ever wanted to cross reference on the state website, they
would get the same information. And that was a decision that we made as a um Southeaster superintendence group and trying to just be consistent about that. So the number on the Department of Ed's website will be the number that will that will show. >> Okay. >> And it'll be that way it's consistent so people won't get confused because really they we're going to define it as the Department of Ed defines it. >> Okay, that makes sense. >> Yep. Just so that there's no confusion. And I think they talked about cost per student the same way. I think per state and that's why we're all trying to um as a southeaster do the same reportings um throughout our county so that there's no confusion >> and there's consistency. Yeah. >> Um we know that um by
itself it will create some questions potentially, but at least if we can be consistent um we will all have the same answer in terms of how we arrive there. >> Well, it's it's consistent, but and I know you have to do it that way. I just wish that our budget committee and our town could become aware that we are at a much higher level. So, so some of the things that we will talk about um in our presentation for Thursday and Mariah and I are just working on it but we'll be ready for Thursday is so when you get ranked like for better or worse um the ranking is based on your achievement scores. And so I mean when Hampton Academy is ranked 13 out of 270 middle schools, it is because of their achievements.
Now I'm not saying there's not room for growth. Absolutely there is. But it has to do with how well they do in their assessments. Same thing with Mars School. Why are they 29th out of 443 schools? Because of their assessment scores, because of their attendance, because of all of the data. that the department of ed collects. That is how they become ranked by US News World and Report. It's all based on number numbers. Nobody's coming in and interviewing Nathan Lois or Dr. Campbell. It's all done through. >> So that I guess that's what I'm getting at is when you're presenting this general information from the DOE, are you able to impart that knowledge that >> it will be in our annual report? >> Okay. >> I mean, and that's the thing. >> Let me make
a reference. Well, that's the problem. The >> the annual report, >> right? It is. So, you know that you you can't put anything on those papers but numbers. So, that's where Mariah, it's kind of tricky. That's why you don't want to raise a question. You want it to be consistent with anybody who goes to the Department of Ed's website. They see the same numbers. That is why, you know, we do the the annual report that will kind of unpack things. That is why when we speak Thursday night, we will talk about what are the outcomes, right? Again, it's not perfect, but it is um it is something to be said, right? Yeah. And there are new laws like this year I have to do a new report um house bill 1265 that is um they're
charts graphs and I have three graphs and they have to be on poster size paper and only one graph can be on a paper and I can't explain it and they're just numbers with lines and by law I have to do it but there can be no explanation on the numbers of how I got there. So, um that's what I mean. It's very hard to sit here and when people say, "Well, tax impact. I need to have that. I need to have that." Well, not everybody understands that that's to the thousand dollar of your house. Your house costs how much? And it's an estimated amount. They don't take revenues in effect of that amount. Revenues can offset that. I can't tell you what our revenues are going to be because it's two years prior to
the revenues coming out. Um, some people do tax impact like 3 months ago and the taxes weren't even set yet. So, I waited to have the taxes come out and so I could do them by this tax season. There's and it's an estimated amount. It's not completely accurate. And so it's hard when when you are trying to go by law and the and we never voted as a town to put tax impacts on it and have our lawyer say please you know since you did not you really shouldn't because it confuses a lot of people. Um and and it's and on the other hand it's kind of like a sales point a pitch too. That's why they they were fighting about should you put it on there, shouldn't you put it on there. Um, but
that information I put out there in multiple places, talk about it multiple times, but like and and we have the communication with it, but like Lois's issue, some people are like, "It's too much. It's too much. You're giving me too much information. Stop doing it." Or there's people that why isn't there? Well, it's because you haven't come to a meeting. You haven't gone to our website. You haven't looked in the locations. It's I'm sorry. It's just not in the location where you want it, but it's out there. And I really do have it out there and it's it's talked upon um a lot. So, it's I think there's that numbers get tricky and people um >> So, at the meeting, >> I think yeah, black and white. This is what it is. Here's a video,
you know, give it. Yeah. But >> I really would maybe say, >> please check our website. Please check here. Please check here. Please check here. >> If you have any questions or you need further information. >> Yeah, that's why because you don't want to go on too long because then you just lose. >> Well, please call us. We we we are not we are available. We are accessible. We return our phone calls. We return our emails. We do meet with people. We will answer any questions. We we I guess I can't say that enough. You know, we're we're really trying. We are a servicedriven district office. And we want to work with all of our stakeholders um on any issue. And and if you disagree, that's fine. Or you want to come in and yell
at us, come on in, too. We're we're here at your service. We're we're always willing to listen. Um we've never refused anyone a meeting. Never. >> I mean, there's a few people that come and visit us at least every year for an hour or so. Jerry, >> Jerry's annoyed. Just to say hello >> to say hello and we sit down and we pull the budget out and we go through it and we talk just because he wants to know about every little thing and >> particularly interested in the content of our budget >> and we and and I and I we make the time and effort to do that. like it's not um and that's why I actually wanted to make sure that I gave out the website and exactly where it is on the
website cuz I know people it can be a little confusing especially for to find my numbers on the website. It's more um student driven. So yeah, >> we're happy to share and talk further. >> I think that's it. Did you have anything else, Andrea? While we're Okay, just for your planning, January 27th, Meredith is throwing that out for a legislative session date. So, I was glad to hear that. Um, January 27th, it's a Tuesday night. We typically start at 6:00 at Winnate High School. That's a Tuesday night. I hope that works for people and hopefully we can get some legislators there that are going to want to have a conversation. There is a lot to talk about. >> Yeah, I think so, too. >> All right, policy review. We have a huge list. >> Let's
start with second reads. Um, so we did have one that was taken off of the agenda. So our second reads now are DAFF administration of federal grant funds, IKB homework, IMBA remote learning, IMDA patriotic exercises, JFA admission of resident students, JG assignment of students to classes and grade levels. JIC student conduct JLCK physical and emotional well-being of students. JLCF wellness, JLIA supervision of students, KF use of students, use of school buildings and facilities, KFR community use of school facilities, regulations and forms. Okay, I think that is so that is it for second reads. So, does anybody have any comments or questions on any of those policies? All of the >> Yes, it's a lot. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Which page? >> Okay. Yep. Gotcha. >> I'm just wondering should we put the superintendent? Should
it also include >> Oh, he's saying he's saying mic. I can hear from the It's okay. and try and be so good too. Thanks, Nick. >> Okay, so should it say at the beginning the superintendent? Should it also include director of pupil services and business administrator? Um because it would seem like you all need to be part of that grant fund um allowability. Mayor, I know the business administrator is on the first page. DAFF. Um, changed from finance director. Um, >> oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right. Um, never mind. Just leave it then. >> I I just >> I think I think where they all personal just a personal opinion. I think where they both report up to the superintendent, it's just saying that she's the ultimate responsible person. Uh, and again, I guess I
had on DAFF2, page one of two, the superintendent, and I didn't know if you should include the business administrator in the one, two, three, four, fifth paragraph down or is that not necessary? Um, is this is authorized to submit requests for advanced payments? Is that >> authorized to? Yeah. >> Um, >> do you need to have the business administrator, too? >> Does Lois have to sign off on any of those? >> Do you have to sign off on it anyway? >> Okay. If she has to >> I'm I I don't know. I'm asking. What's that? >> Okay. So, But does she see it? >> And H's not wrong. If you are not >> the only So I guess the question is is the business administrator authorized to submit requests for advanced payments and reimbursements at
least monthly. >> I would think yes. So >> so in that paragraph we could the superintendent and >> yes and or actually the business administrator. Yep. >> What? This is the I see on the third paragraph we changed it, but you want to change. >> So this is a few pages later. So this is D2, >> page one of two. >> Got it. I see it. >> Yep. And so it's fifth paragraph down on that. Got it. Yep. Okay. have any more Andrew? >> Yep. On DAFF6, page one of one. >> I just need a clarification. Under A, is that 10 105,000? >> This is this policy. >> It's huge. Um, so I'm sorry. DAFF6. >> DAFF6 and it's one of one and it's the second par under a equipment. Is it 105,000? >> Okay.
>> Is it 10,000? >> Yeah, looks like >> Oh, take out. >> Is it I think it's so changed from five to 10. Okay. All right. Sorry. Um, that's why I needed um >> capitals. Yeah, capital purchases. >> Yep. >> Okay. So, the superintendent under records, you maintain all of that. somewhere technically. Yeah. >> Okay. And then we are doing it every two years. You have a physical inventory of all equipment and pillarable items. >> Well, I think Kim kind of helps us with that, Mariah. >> So, um, we other than vacuums and that kind of stuff for facilities, we do have the the two vehicles, right? We're talking about purchase with federal funds though. >> Oh, for the federal funds, we don't buy equipment with federal funds. >> I'm just thinking about technology stuff.
There might be >> um we do we have to actually tag it and um code it. So, we do that with computers. We have to do that with >> everything. I just want to make sure that we're doing that so we're not >> we and you know what during an audit they check for it. That's the only thing. Yeah. Yeah. >> We have to tag them and and inventory them. Okay. How about DAFF9? Okay. >> Two of two. Okay. >> Okay. Quick question. How many people do we have on this like time card time sheet? Are there a lot of people on that? have we have the staff on the IDA grants, right? >> For federal funds for time sheets, we have um paris and title one. >> Okay. All right. That gives you the
right number. Yes. >> And they're all um so we have two things that we do with them. All of those positions now um I have time cards. even if they don't get paid by a time card, they have to be time card and we do a federal funding report twice a year um at the one that they have to sign their contract that says it could be fedally funded. two in um January and then in June they have to sign um that h like halfway through that they've received so much money that it was federal funded and what it was with the project number and the employee has to sign off on it and then in June also so we have multiple ways to track the federal funds that I actually keep in a book
for audit. >> Okay, good. Um that may be it. That's a that DF is a long one though. >> That is a long Sorry about that. >> No, >> I just >> Yeah, >> I was looking through it. Um >> Oh, um on homework. Well, this is just No, never mind. I'll talk to you later about it. Okay. >> I just had some ideas about putting competencies on homework, but it may be way too much work for teachers to have to do that. I just didn't know if you know when you when you're giving homework and you're trying to justify why the student is having that homework perhaps if you had a competency on there then a parent could say oh I see what this is going towards >> and the same thing on assessments
like summitives like oh if that's there again it's a lot of extra work for teachers and I don't certainly don't want to make that but if a parent could see that then it would be like oh now I understand why you're getting this right? >> Or why they're asking this question. >> Yeah. >> It's like your kid comes home and says, "Yeah, she's making me learn this for no reason, >> which we don't believe, but it give you a concrete example." >> Um, and my other thing was on daily physical activity. You know me, I'm back to that again. >> Yeah. I will say we are postponing the vote on that one. >> Oh, we are? Okay. Okay. You know, you know, it's it there was some um some language in this that's unclear to
all of us and we've reached out to um the New Hampshire School Boards Association to ask them for clarity. >> They don't seem to have the clarity and it seems like it's more judgment. So, the question really becomes, are we um are we encouraging right the daily physical activity, exercise, and physical education? um with our students right in light of chronic inactivity, childhood obesity and other related health problems. Um so when when you see things like and I know when they start to add things like times etc etc like are we meeting them are we not meeting them but um it's really about ensuring that we're giving the students opportunities for it and I think we are I think we're fine with this one but we'll hold off on it and give it another conversation
just because >> we want to make sure right >> I was just going to take it one step further for students and Even apart from this, if you had students keeping track on their Chromebooks, >> like a lot of people might have smartwatch and it might help students to um to kind of motivate them >> if like during community time or during advisory they were to look at the their activity. How much did you do today? How much did you do? Well, what is included in activity? and maybe have the kids actually monitor their own activity and see see what they think. >> Well, even just a thought, >> yeah, even at the bottom of that, right, where the committee will report to the superintendent with recommendations for how to advance the objectives stated above
and we will review the recommendations, report the same to the board. Um, I mean, I'm not it's it's nice to see that um Hampton Academy has added res recess to or outside time for all sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. I'm glad to see that. But >> can we guarantee it? >> But you might have better luck if you, like I said, if you get kids invested in, >> I don't know, just get kids invested in it. Like, oh, I'm going to track and I'm going to let you I'll let you know. And >> sometimes kids can even get a little more competitive about it. Like, oh, I can get more minutes in a day than you can. >> Right. Right. >> I don't know. Just something to think about. >> Yeah. >> All right. Sorry.
I'm I digress. It's okay. It's important. >> And they're required by law. These policies are required by law. That's where they get tricky. >> Yep. >> Right. >> All right. I'll stop. >> It's okay. Does anybody have any more questions on our second read policies? >> It's okay. >> You know, >> would anybody like to move our I believe it is 12. One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, 10, 11. our 12 second read policies. >> I'll make a motion for the 12 second read policies. >> Thank you. >> To be passed. >> I'll second. >> All right. All in favor? >> Okay. That leaves us with a another big stack uh to look at. So, everybody take read through those and we will >> talk about them more next month. >> There'll be more
on Monday. This is just >> you don't want to get me going up. >> I'd like to ask if we have anyone here for public comment on agenda items. Okay. All right. That being said, do we have any need for a non-public session? I don't have anything. All right. Do I have a motion to adjurnn? >> I'll make a motion to adjurnn. All right. >> All right. All in favor? Okay.
