001Order please of America and the stands one nation under God indivisibley and justice for all. >> Okay. And with that we will move on to the student presentation. in my second graders at ME. >> Good evening. My name is Sage and my name is A. We are second graders at NES. We have spent time learning about optic illness. We have learned about your habitat, diet, and some other cool facts. We want to invite you over to the tables so the second graders can teach you about their animals. >> Thank you. >> Come on over and take a look. Hi, how are you? >> Come on. Rushy rush. No, they're going to look sexual. Yeah. I again. Jesus. I feel as Got it. Okay. Hello. That's right. Yeah, exactly. They don't know. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat.

002Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Heat. All right. Heat. Yeah. Heat. Don't worry about it. So much more. Heat. Heat. Hallelujah. Please. Heat. Heat. I'm working. Jesus. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Stop. Heat. this morning. I didn't want to learn. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Yeah. So, Okay. your attention for >> I'm going to give like five more minutes for you guys to keep looking at that and I'm going to have a head watch through their presentation so that we can keep having the student presentations going forward. I want to surprise you. Yeah. Sorry. Heat. Heat. Hey, what's up Good. How you doing? Oh, can't complain. Love it. Good. pretty much like he's only hilarious note. Heat. Heat. which I was feeling. Oh yeah. Hallelujah. Yeah. I love you. Heat.

003Heat. There's money. So I really enjoy the story. Hello everyone. My name is Gina Robins. I am the school counselor in elementary school. Um this is Jade Kennedy. She is our fourth grade teacher. Um we are co-advisors to the hen poncho herd which is a part um is one group in our helpful herds. So, if you haven't heard about the helpful courage program, it's sort of like a club, but it's during a school day for the most part. Um, and there it's for fifth and sixth grade students. All students have access to this program. Um, there are five different kind of clubs under this umbrella so that our students have opportunities to participate in our community and do some helpful things. So um tonight we have here our head of poncho herd. So um we

004are missing two students who were able to come tonight um who are in this herd as well. And they have a little bit higher standard for their work habit scores and their work habit scores are around like cit citizenship um and being a responsible learner. And so we look for their scores to be a 3.0 or higher. Um, all of the other curves have a 2.5 um or higher score. So, they have some extra responsibility and they are going to be projecting tonight about a spring service project. Every year we've done a spring service project where they do something to contribute to the community. Um, and just to give a shout out to the other herds as well, we have a sunshine herd. Um, and that is about spreading culture, kindness, and sunshine within our

005school community. We have a Korea care herd, which is a Korea as a baby alpaca, if you didn't know that. Um, and so that is about mentoring our youngest students. And then we have a pipe herd, which helps us pipe events and create flyers and get the word out. And then we have a special operations card which will help us with things like facilities maintenance and breakdown and clean up of different events. So all different ways for kids to contribute to their school community. Um and I want to introduce the students and then I'm going to let them take it from here on the spring service project. So we have Maddox Piaak. He is our um he's in sixth grade. We have Leonor Premis. She is in fifth grade. We have Miss Macy Roy who's

006also in fifth grade and Hannah who's also in fifth grade. We um Carter Aken is a fifth grade student who's in the program and Candid Ferguson who is a sixth grade student in the program too. All righty. Thank you for listening to my starting. Here you are. The head honcho herd is putting this putting this event on for the little kids of Middleton ages five and under. We are also hopeful that this can help build connections with their families. All of our herds will be helping make this event happen. The head hon is organizing the event. The hype created the flyer and will be doing morning announcements about it. The career herd is going to help at the event since they mentor the younger students. The sunshine herd is invited to come and offer a

007special activity or craft her. The special operations her will help set things up ahead for us. So we have everything we need at the event. The PTO has been invited to donate materials or run a snack or train station depending on what they are able to do. Hello. We are putting on two of our counters. Both of the events are 10 to 11 a.m. The first play group is May 9th. The second play group is June 9, June 13th. These are the second Saturdays of the month. We planned the dates because it is spring so we could do it outside and the time was chosen so that young children are able to get home from lunch and match if they need. We also learned that Middleton and Beck was putting on an Easter egg hunt

008in April. So, we wanted the kids to have multiple chances to have fun at the desk. Hello everyone. We were thinking we could make a craft table for the kids to color. And we wanted to use gym equipment to run games and watch the kids while the parents socialize with other parents. This is really about inviting the community together and play on school grounds and have an opportunity to connect. Fun free play for our youngest community members and summer special time for their career. This is happening at NES. We want to host here to get younger children and their families here before summer starts so they feel comfortable to play with them and continue their days over the summer. We have two main places where we want them to find the thoughts to have their

009play space. The first one will be on the playground outside. We want them to be outside so that they can run around, explore the playground, and get fresh air. The second place will be inside, although that will be our backdoor swim. We are doing this because it can be good for kids to make friends, have fun, and socialize before school. People should attend to help little kids and attend our school. Please help us encourage community members with young children to attend 139 or both. Thank you. There should be a flyer that was going around about this kind of cosplay group. We also are going to be posting it on Facebook. Um, and so any way that you can help us advertise and get the word out would be wonderful. Thank you for having us. You

010guys did a great job at presentations. Great job on your project. I learned this ton just by walking through. I think everyone else did as well. And I'm really excited to hear about this play group. This is a really great idea, guys. And we will move into public. >> Would you like to question? >> No, I'm going to ask you live. I just saw our report that we had kindergarten sign up. I was just curious how many kids up so far. Curious. >> She's going to give you that information in a couple minutes. >> Hi everybody. Hi everybody. Uh I'm Nicole Wright. I'm one of the members of the Alpaka Pals. We're PTA. We've actually just got um affiliated day with New Hampshire PTA. So we have the nonprofit status everything. Um so that's good.

011I wanted to let you guys know that today um Flyers went home for Marathon Monday. I don't think Kayla's here, but Kayla, >> she just left. I was going to say I thought I saw her. Um she is that's something she's doing at her school in Summerssworth. So she brought it here and brought it up to the PTA. We thought it was a great idea. So huge shout out to her for doing a lot of the leg work. Um what that is is an opportunity for the students to learn more about the marathon which is April 20th and they're going to do their own little mini version here. So there was a QR code that was sent home if anybody wants to donate. Everything that is um fundraised from this will go towards uh getting

012new playground equipment. We're looking for soccer nets and tether ball. So I wanted to share that. Did you miss anything? Any other public input? >> All right, I'm going to move forward and we will add extra time if needed to the next um the public input at the end of the meeting. Um the responses to questions from last month's public, are the school board members willing to give up their site payments in order to benefit the budget for 2027? Um so that's going to be up to each member individually. Uh I'm not going to ask any members um to give up their site. The schoolboard members are the equivalent of the select board of the town and each member has worked diligently this year investing additional time into the schoolboard by creating subcommittees and other

013items. The budget concerns were not related to a lack of work or dedication by the board members. I don't feel like that's something that I would feel comfortable asking anyone. Um, how was the tuition rate calculated for the mailer that was sent out? The rate was calculated by the SAE office based off of the agreement in place. Uh, where did the money um from the where did the money to come from? The mailer where did the money come from the mailer? Uh, the funds from the mailer came from the budget. The school board had allocated $850 for the deliberative postcards in January um and expended less than 500 for the mailer. The previous year cost for the voting mailer was 830 and the enhanced mailer that we sent mission was 1003 for a difference of

014173 which was covered by the $350 balance from the previous mailer. Um this change was made an effort to provide transparency to residents. Um the request for staff salaries be made public. Uh that information is available on the SAP website. Um, if you go to the SA website and you select GWRST and then select right to know wages, um, that will bring all that information out for you for all of the pay. Um, it's done out by individual's name. Um, if you have any issues with that, you can always reach out to the SA office. They can help get that information to you as well. Um, or any of us would be happy to to do the same thing. Uh, does the school board believe that the town's people want the children to lose things

015because of this budget? Um I don't think that personal feelings are personal feelings are irrelevant but the reality is the school board um understands the financial concerns of our town and we don't feel that there's any malice intent by the budget. Uh what did the substitute teacher tell the students about the budget and what action was being taken? Um I don't I I know that there was something about voting uh but there and the town's wishes but it was addressed by the principal and it's a personel matter so that's not something that we have any further information about and then where was it posted to invite people to come to the school to read uh the principal reached out to individuals listed on the town's website the PTA the church for this event um but

016there are volunteer opportunities available within the school and you can always reach out to the principal for more information about Okay, agenda review. Does anyone have anything that needs to be added? I'm going to end add a quick um lip about the solar panel um information that we talked about um last month. Um I don't have it's we're still very early, but I'm going to give share the information that I have. And then moving into the public carry for building a meeting expendable trust fund withdrawal for the water day repair that for this public hearing um we provided the board uh with two quotes and I And I will pass this over to principal love to um share some of the information about two of these two quotes. One is from Federal Piping Company and

017that is for $6,735 and the other is with Second Wind and that one is $9,990. Uh however, we don't feel these are just apples to apples. Um Second Wind is a company that uh did our um water remediation projects and they're very familiar with um the school the process and what it takes to actually not only replace the tank but also the removal and the treatment that's required. So I'll ask you to share Thank you so much. Um, so if you are looking at the quote from Federal Piping, um, what you'll notice is that old price of $6,735 for the tank itself. Um, you actually see two quotes from them. If you click over that first quote, you'll see what looks like the exact same thing. It's just missing a paragraph at the bottom. Um,

018that price of $6,735 does not include the media um or the disposal fees that are necessary. If you look down at the bottom, you'll see that they did um vapor $450. Calite 2050 lb bags 840. Um but this does not include the disposal of our existing tank and the media that are inside of it. Um we had to push back in order to get a little bit more of a detailed breakdown. Our initial quote was well we don't know what's in the tank. So we're just going to get you the tank and that's we need more than that because of our the mitigation system. Um we also got a quote from Second Wind. They are the um company that has been servicing our water and ensuring this is safe. Um you'll notice as you look

019through that quote that it's a little bit more detailed. Um these are people who have expertise in this system. This system is a part of our arson abbreviation which is why um their expertise is so valuable. Um, and I will also add that they had um, initially a higher price and we had worked with them to say um, we don't know if we're going to bring this to a hearing or if we can export it out of the budget and they had dropped that price for us understanding that the constraints that we are under. So, it had been um, you'll notice that discount manual. It had been over um, $10,000 and they dropped it down to try and help us out and comply with some of our constraints. I am not an expert in arsenic

020remediation but I can try to answer questions if people have. >> Thank you. So we are um after the public input for this hearing. Uh we're asking the board to take action on the withdrawal from the building and maintenance expendable trust fund. Okay. I will open up for public input. >> You just um say the prices again. I'm sorry. >> It's tricky though. I can't do math on the first. >> Okay. Okay. So the total for the first one is 8,025. >> That includes the disposal. >> No, they won't give us that fee. >> So what was the 6735? >> That's the original tank and it installation. That does not include the media inside the tank or the revetting of things. >> So final quote is $8,35. >> Last question. >> Plus the one plus

021the fees. They're not sure what they want. >> So, it's kind of like two piece dettorneys later on. >> Um, the other company's total >> I don't I know. Um, the other company's total is $9,990. Um, and they literally went through everything and gave us the cost to dispose um and get rid of that and the materials inside. >> Yes. and they gave us a discount of $1,951 from their original quote. >> Go ahead. Just state your name. >> Oh, Tony, I just I just have a quick question. Which one initially has done the work in the building? Was it the first part? >> That's all I need. Thanks, >> Tony. Can you give her >> Oh, thank a couple minutes. Is there a warranty on that? >> That was my question. Is there a

022warrant? Is there a warranty in our original system that might be impacted if you have someone else doing the tank swapping? >> Um, not to my knowledge. Okay. >> You know what I mean? Like sometimes one company does it another. >> Exactly. >> Will this new quote have a warranty on the work that they do in the paint? I can ask >> because of three years from now moving to >> I think neither one of them included it. So I'm guessing >> I know that you shared that the second company that we had previously was a lot more knowledgeable. Um the first company you kind of had to keep pulling things out of it was kind of like well what about this and I'm like oh yeah well well so um >> can I speak

023to that? >> Yeah. >> And just to speak to that sorry just to speak to that um the first company that we talked about Federal Piping is wonderful. They have been helping us out with any kind of plumbing issues that we have with pipes um with ensuring that our our um um like we had a water bubbler fail right after the water came back online and they took care of that got that fixed for us right away. Um I do not believe this is their area of expertise which is why it's been challenging. I don't want to malign a company that is got good intentions and is trying to help us out, but I I just I'm not sure that this is their area of expertise. Whereas with second wind, um they have worked on

024our system. They were instrumental in getting our arsenic remediation set. And so that level of knowledge, you can see that in the proposal that they have for us. Are these the only two companies that are available that we were able to take? Um, one of Did you turn it off on me? One of the challenges we ran into with the arsenic remediation was um that I had invited a company in to get us a quote thinking that we could get a level quote and um lo and behold they felt uncomfortable giving me that quote because it's a public water supply and so like I try to recognize I try to recognize that not every typical company is going to be comfortable working in a school where there are additional regulations. Um so I I can't

025speak to that but it is a factor. >> Any other public input? Okay. So we will move on to um discussion of the board and Whether we want to response you guys'll make the motion. All right. So, >> well, I was going to make a motion to go with um the quote for a second and to um take it from the trust fund. >> Do we know how much money you met? Are you motion to withdraw 9,9? I can give you about motion to withdraw $9,990 to um fix the water. All in favor of the warranty that the actual tank is going to happen. So there installation problem and how long will they have to relate but that we'd like to have information. Any further discussion? Yes. Thank you. Okay, we will move forward with

026acceptance of the minutes at the March 11th, 2026 academic affairs committee meeting. >> I have a motion for that. >> I'll make the motion for the motion. >> All in favor by a roll call. All in favor? I wasn't there so yet. >> Um, acceptance of the minutes for the March 11 of the 2026 school board meeting. >> All in favor? >> I. And then March 23rd, 2026 school board workshop minutes accept >> second. All in >> favor and moving to the superintendent's report. Thank you very much. And we'll start off with the middle and elementary school update. Thank you. Uh we have now completed our literacy in schools month and some really fantastic events. We had a week of guest readers who came in to read for our students. We ran a readathon that

027generated over 90,000 minutes of reading for our school. We dropped everything in red twice in March. And of course, we hosted our fluency fair. Thank you to so many of our schoolboard members and who came out to this event. And thank you so much to our staff who put on a wonderful time. Thank you also to everyone who helped supported our scholastic book fair including the many volunteers who helped with it and to our PAL PTA who ran a fluency station at literacy night. I also have to thank them for generously sponsoring the bus for our fifth and sixth grade trip to Kingswood to learn about the arts program. MES students enjoyed hearing middle school banding course performances, viewing the art on display, and then they got to ask questions um about arts in middle

028and high school. That same group of students also had a chance to visit the Courier Art Museum in the last month and it was incredible to see our students learning, observing, and asking questions in such a wonderful museum. Many of these students told me they had never been in art museum before. Um, and I have to thank our art teacher, Ally Hayford, for making this trip possible. This trip was funded, thus included, by the Courier Museum. Um, and I appreciate all of our staff and parenting volunteers who also helped us make that a really successful trip. Speaking in the arts, please save the date for our May spring arts night. This event is on May 14th from 5:30 to 7:00 and it's going to include performances for our band and chorus as well as an

029art show. We would love to see everybody there. We also completed our kindergarten registration on April 1st. We had 17 kindergarten students come out and register. And I have to thank all of my staff who supported this event. Many of these new kindergarten families have never been in the building before. They are not siblings. Um, which is pretty incredible. And it's wonderful to have events like this that are so welcoming to um, help those students get used to the new place. If I have done my math correctly, this is the class of 2039. Um we are training our SAS testing in April and May. Our standardized state assessment is for students in grades 3 through six math, reading and uh writing and then fifth grade will also assess for science. Our classrooms have been busy

030preparing for this assessment. I'm excited to announce that MEES has a first Lego robotics club. This club started in March. It meets on Tuesday mornings before school. Students in grades four through six were eligible for this club and we're excited to have started paving a way for students to be ready to compete in bigger events in our elementary school. Um and then the last thing I wanted to thank the Wakefield Lions Club for their generous support of our story book last year. Our helpful herds had this as their community service project. Um and the Wakefield Lions Club has offered to maintain and change out the books so in order to keep that project alive. Um And then finally, I'm just so proud of our students who came tonight and presented. That was really wonderful. It

031was nice to see the number of families in the building when the Arctic Animal Fair happened. A lot of families came in to have a chance to see their students present to us. So, I love the community support there. So, thank you everybody. >> You said 17, right? >> And did you say I'm losing? Did you say how much money you raised from the fund? >> I can estimate it was over $4,000. >> Nice. >> Any other questions? Question about the um the testing scores. There be a presentation in November. They don't come out until summer. Thank you. >> Any other questions? Okay. Uh just a few end of year events to bring to your attention. The annual joint boards meeting for the Lakes Region Technology Center is May 4th at 6 p.m. And that's

032when all of the STEM districts, Middleton, Farmington, Moltonboro, and Prospect Mountain in Alton come to the tech center to um vote and agree on the Perkins uh grant allocation. And it's great because the to a presentation or refreshments. So, um that's that's an event the board is invited to. Uh Kings Regional High School graduation is scheduled for June 12th, Friday, June 12th at 6:00 p.m. There is a rain day today. We'll try really hard not to use that. And the last day of school is June 17th as scheduled. No change. And let's not have any more of that white stuff from yesterday. That was not on the schedule. did not appreciate that. So, whoever ordered that, I do not appreciate that. >> But stick to the sketch. >> Someone put their shovel. Somebody get that

033snow brush out. Thank you. And then lastly, are the financials in your packet. You have questions. >> I will do my best or I can bring it back to the board. know where we are with the special. >> Yes. And I was just reviewing um Kathy's summary here and she has special education program has expended approximately $734,740 of it 976 296 budget leaving a remaining balance of $241,548. So this is um consistent with uh what we expected at this time of year. Um and the board approved withdrawal of 200,000 from the trust for additional costs. If we need additional funds, we'll certainly bring that to the board. >> But we haven't had to tap into those. >> Not as of yet. The school board expended. What was the additional primary So, we're watching special costs,

034especially tuition operating maintenance. If we had more snow, we expected some extra building. What were the extra We had to repair a broken. We had to repair the heat in the main office. There was a broken fan that was causing the air to pour into the central office. Okay. So, >> that's referring to No. No. Any questions? Thank you very much. Okay. So, moving into the uh 2027 adjusted budget. um to discuss that further after our we um had a workshop with ID who had come to the table with a great proposal um to meet the budget um without really impacting the kids which was hugely um I mean it was just astronomical for her to be able to do that. uh the big um the big changes that we needed to talk about. Additionally,

035we're changing the janitor position to a part-time position um to meet the final budget restraint and the nurse to a part-time position. Any further discussion? I I had an idea as far as the um maintenance position to figure out if we could take some of the other line items in the budget um to adjust them potentially to come out of the trust so that we could for one year um not lose a full-time janitor because I do feel that that places the building at risk um of additional costs having to call someone in. Um I don't know how everyone else is feeling about that. >> Can we just as a like point of water go through and So just kind of leave those out. Yeah. I think she's talking just going through something. >> Okay.

036So, the first change was to uh we have a posted special education teacher in the first line um of the proposal that I made and she proposed to just withdraw that position from being posted any longer which would save $164,900. Um so, I'll make a motion to accept that. Okay, we have a second. All in favor? We discussed I mean we are open if anyone wants to say. All right. All in favor by roll call. >> Heather Kelly. >> Correct. Yes. That is a great clarification. So, it's for this next year to help us meet the budget restraints of the next year. The second suggestion was for the nurse position to be reduced by 5 hours per day. Um, which based on the it was the middle salary that you guys took for this number.

037>> Correct. The middle salary um would be a $72,212 uh 12 um savings to the budget. Any um do I have a motion to accept that one? Just to give additional info, we have had two people um interview for that position um knowing that it's part-time at least for this year. Um so we do have we have generated some interest that I know was something that we talked about was a concern was that um it would be hard to fill part-time position, but we have had interest in that position knowing it's parttime this year. My concern is not the filling of the position. It's the not having coverage for medical. >> What were the hours that you had suggested? I don't have. >> So from 8:45 the bell rings to 10. I know that there

038were suggestions of working with um the uh with um the fire department and EMTs to see if some we could have some here to help support. That's something we can consider. Um but otherwise the IE thought process I think you said was there's no medications they're giving in the morning typically >> as of right now >> as of now. So >> so what happens when there's a medical emergency that requires pen before the nurse comes in. >> So they would call in the NEP can be administered by anyone. Um, you don't have to have a medical a nursing license to administer a net event, though I think that that would be something that I and the staff would work together to make sure that whoever is going to be filling the position to come in

039feels comfortable and knows what they're doing um to administer. >> And not only that, the nurse position is also part of the CPA. So, how does How does this affect that maintenance? >> Yeah. So, it's not going to affect the contract. Um, I mean, I think our goal will be to go to move towards a budget next year that went more into a full-time place. I think it's just because of where we're at right now trying to figure out how to get creative without having to eliminate teacher positions. I think I'd be more comfortable with it if there was actually a plan like a legit plan in place for a situation like that. So at the time they're locked up in the nurse's office. So you have to have access to those minutes matter, you

040know. So it's that the school does not have a policy on uh self-care for students that require eps. So I don't know maybe that's something that the school board >> that I think that would be more of a liability because a child accidentally is an epic code. So, you really want to have pens there. I think you want to talk to any of your thoughts on how you would >> um I have to like I have to say like I said last time, I don't love any of these cuts at all. And um the first position cut is the one that makes me the most nervous >> because um students safety is paramount to being able to learn. Um the logic behind that was that our EMS does have staffing between the hours of 8

041and 10. I think it's 8 possibly a little bit um larger range. I know if they are out on an emergency then they are not there. Um I thought about one that I could call 911. We do have we made a push this year to make sure that we have more staff trained in CPR and AED. Um some staff are trained in first aid as well. Um and my thinking was to um work to free up staff in the morning with additional certifications that could provide support in the event of an emergency. Um I am nervous about that. It's a fair question. It's not just that. It's being able to sort of make the call of is this something that neurommination. Right. And and then that cost gets more potent for that. >> Yeah. I'm

042not comfortable cutting anything. >> So I I think if we want to um postpone deciding on this, we can move on to the other items and then circle back to that and see if they want to um see if they can come up with some of their creative options between now and next month. Um I know we're interview we're interviewing with the plan for it to be parttime for now. Um and we could talk with those people at that time to see if they would be open to full-time if that if that was something that we could make a change to. Um so we'll move on to the next slide. Uh special education support staff. Um there's three staff members. Um two of the positions are currently not filled due to change in students needs

043and one position is being funded by the grant. Um so as of right now due to the um student no longer needing those two support people and the position that can be funded by the grant that would save us um $3,500 a piece for a total of 91,500. >> I'll make a motion to Okay. Do I have a second? >> All right. Thank you, Kevin. Um, all in favor roll call Sierra. >> Sorry. >> Hi, >> Heather. Hi, >> Sam. >> Hi, >> Kelly. >> Hi, >> Rebecca. Hi. >> Okay. And then um the proposal was >> we can pause that one too. Gosh, guys. All right, the next one is the reading specialist. Um the fund of $50,000 which um from the title one entitlement grant um will allow us to remove that from

044the budget. So that $50,000 um will be able to be taken out of the operating budget and paid by that grant. Do I have >> um I just I want to remind everybody that some of these are one-year solutions and this one has to be a one-year solution because we cannot predict what the federal government will do with this title one entitlement grant and um we benefit tremendously from a full-time reading specialist. And so to put a portion of that salary of benefits into the title one title grant is a stop gap measure to get through a year and be able to maintain current um reading interventions that we currently have which we need. So I just I want to I know that some of these feel like easy decisions but they all come with

045a little bit of cost. I want to make sure that we're making these decisions um in a way that is >> um just a quick IEP. Do they require us to have that reading specialist? No, we do not currently have students that have specialist. >> I would like a motion to approve that. >> Uh it's $50,000. >> Sure. Again, covered by um all in favor called Sierra. S >> Ken. >> Okay. The next one was library supplies. Um to remove this for one year only because of the funds that were raised by this Scholastic Bookf Fair um from previous years to support those materials. That's a savings of $3,500. They have a motion for that. >> Heather and Kelly. All in favor by roll car. Heather, hi >> Sam. Hi, Kelly. Hi, >> Rebecca. Hi.

046>> Uh, the next one was for replacement furniture. We had budgeted um for replacement of furniture. Um, Ivy has identified that she doesn't have anything at this time that she does will need to be replaced this year, which would give us a $2,000 savings there. Do I have a motion for that? Um, >> thank you, Sar. All in favor by roll call. Sierra, >> Heather, >> Sam, >> hi. >> Kelly, >> hi. >> Rebecca, >> hi. >> The next item is for new furniture. We have budgeted for new furniture. Um, and he feels that the furniture is sufficient um for one year. So, that would be a $500 savings. Do I have a motion to approve that? >> Kelly second. Um, by roll call here, >> Heather. Sam. Hi, >> Kelly. Rebecca. Um, all right.

047The next one is for contracted services M and H504 plans. Um, there were no funds used from this um line last year or last year. So, she's removing it for this year for $3,500 savings. I have a motion from that. So, um, under section 504, sometimes students have access to additional services or testing. To my knowledge, that line has something to do with the middle school or the high school. I know it's a little weird because I'm in charge of this school, not other schools. But, um, because that wasn't spent, I thought we could absolutely do without that. >> Would your recommendation be put that back again this year as well? >> Yeah. Yes. So the suggestion was in her proposal not used this year or last. So we're moving it and further for the

048year. Okay. So we will circle back to the nurse position. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Okay. >> I'm sorry. Losing my mind. Thank you. All in favor of my roll call Sierra, Heather, Sam, Kelly, Rebecca. Okay. So, circling back up to the nurse position. So, I mean, I I hear your concerns. Um, if we are not comfortable voting on that line, I think it would be okay to table that line and we can see look at the budget some more and see if we can get creative to find those funds. >> I mean, >> I will make a motion >> to accept my um to reduce the nurse position by 5 hours um from the hours of 10 to 3 as of right now for a proposal uh or plan um with a cost savings of

049$72,200 12. Do I have a second? Okay. All in favor by roll call. Sierra, Heather, Sam, Kelly. >> Hi. >> I hear your concerns and I think we go back to the draw board. I think at this point we have people applying for the position the way it is um with a proposed idea and then we can see if we can um find some red to that area and alleviate the risk to the school and the concerns. >> I said head custodian. So, a head custodian would be to eliminate the position and replace it with a part-time position at um half 50% of the time uh with a cost savings of $76,031. Um >> I'll put the motion so we can discuss. >> Okay. >> Discussion. >> So, is this because right now it's a

050full time. So, we turn that part time. Are we still giving the other part-time too or >> We currently have right now two full-time custodians. This is the elimination of the head custodian position and the replacement with four hours a day part-time that would not come with benefits. >> So we keep the full time. >> So we keep one full-time position and we reduce to one part-time position with no benefits. And what were the hours that we were finished for the I don't have that >> I'm sorry I can you explain why would the head facility see the one reduced and not the >> um I looked at the total impact on the budget and so I looked at value >> 7631 So we would still have a fulltime >> not necessarily it's not necessarily

051a night position. It could be a regular custodial position and then a parttime custodial position they would have to look at um student needs. So, one of the things that our daytime custodian does is ensure that lunches are set up and cleaned up from appropriately so that this area can be used for a gym as well. So, we have to make sure that we are being thoughtful once we have a schedule built for next year of when I need coverage in the building during the day and when I do not. Snow removal is going to be another thing that is going to be a challenge with 12 hours versus 16 hours. Um, just to put that out there. You're also I imagine that they also if you're reducing that and you cut repairs and new

052furniture that they're fixing some of the things that break. >> Yes. >> So their ability to do that maybe reduce they don't have time because they're cleaning up spills and messes all the time. >> Yes. >> So one of the things that I've asked is there any way to pull money from another line that would be normally covered in the budget for one year and have it covered under out of the trust fund. Um, and I was Caroline looked at some cheating because there's a couple of lines that would add up to building service agreements, >> there's 25,000 of the building service agreements. So, we may be able to reallocate some of those to come out of the trust fund for one year to maintain the two full-time if we want to consider that, but

053we can that could be something we can look into more and table this like we just did with the nurses. >> And what I would suggest is perhaps person is 75% not fulltime. So then you have hours >> but reduction of benefits. So we still see there >> about 275% positions. >> I think we could consider that >> the benefits, >> right? >> I think if there's an opportunity to look at maybe just table like we did with the nurse and and look at that um in May. That way we can have a little bit more discussion and a little bit more deeper dive into the budget. Is everyone comfortable with that? Do we have to go to the table? >> Everyone good? Okay. >> Oh, we have to go and Okay. Unless we want

054to change motion. So you can try to not be voting and table it or you can vote to table it until the main meeting. >> Well, we voted down we voted against >> Y. But we're just just Yeah, just a custodian. So it's either changing the custodian um because you made a motion to vote on it. >> So we're discussing it. So you can either vote to withdraw your motion and we'll table it. I don't remember if my first or second either way, >> but then I >> Okay, so we're going to table and see if we can find a way to find those. Thank you guys. Moving into the child care and after school program. Um so Ivy and I met with a um really kind of I found an exciting group of people

055today or individual representing an organization that um runs childcare programs within the school for before and after school care. Um they work diligently to have no cost um to the school for the startup cost um at all. They also request um to not have any cost to them to use the space for at least the first 90 days so that they have the opportunity to get up and running. Um their numbers are significantly less uh to get started than the YMCA was. Um but they are a um licensed program within the state. Um and they would do all of the um maintenance. They have substitutes. um they will give our staff the opportunity if anyone wants to be employed by the childcare to interview for physicians to um help. They um are currently running a

056program out of Northwood um and they've been there for a few years. I did look at the um ratings that the families give them. Um they have for their surveys 439 um out of five um employee engagement are saying that they're a great company to work for and 4.65 65 of family engagement said that they love the program. Um they offer STEM programs, creative arts, library, um puzzles and games. Um so this was kind of a preliminary meeting to get a little bit more information. They are allowing us the opportunity to go to Northwood to view the program um under its functioning and kind of get an idea as to what that looks like. So I would like to request um a subcommittee from a city development board to kind of go I would like

057to be a part of that if possible and if someone else would like to be with me to go toward this program and see if this might be something that we can bring um to the Milton. Ivy is going to send out a um survey to the families to see how much um how interested families are. Um, the program was a lot more cost effective than the Y. I want to say it was $85 for after school for the week. Yeah, $85 after school for the week, which is pretty reasonable um for before and after. They also offer a summer program. Um, I did ask if there was any way that we could potentially, if we move forward with this, get um have a summer program this year. It would be tight and it we

058wouldn't be able to start till after the 4th of the week after the 4th of July. Um, it would take some figuring out. So that we're not sure if we'll be able to do that yet this year. Um but trying to get some opportunities um for some support after school for our families. Uh the other thing that I thought was really exciting was they have a ton of information about corporate grants um that she did send us. I want to say it was like nine pages um of different corporations that actually will do grants for before and after school and community projects. So things like our ball field and things like that we can actually apply for grants to get um funds to repair those the way that we wanted. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >>

059Can I ask um so they come here >> and then how is there a limit to the amount of kids? >> Um the limit is based off of licensing. So they they will add staff as they need to um for the number of students that we have that are interested in wanting to take part. They'll also work with all of our um any after school programs we have they'll collaborate with. And the other thing that I thought was really exciting is they'll work with the teachers on testing to support. So they'll do homework help but if we don't have homework but I know we have testing coming in late March they'll work with the students to get extra help and support. There is a minimum number of students that they need in order to make

060this which is why the survey is going to be really important for families to ponder and consider. personal commitment, but it allows each interest to be able to decide if we should move forward. >> And it was 10, I think. >> It was it was different based on each. Yeah, >> it was 10 for morning program and 15 for after or a combination. They said they're not fixed on the numbers. Um, and they are they're excited to get they're excited to to have an opportunity. So, yeah, we're really excited. >> They require is it like a required five days or are they flexible or like part time? >> They were flexible. They did have the opportunities for part time. And they you don't have to do before and after. You could you could do just

061before, you could do just after. You could do both. They also um accept vouchers and they if families are not comfortable applying for a voucher um or do not have vouchers, they also have scholarships that are um open for families as well. >> And the survey will go out to the enrollment kindergarteners that are they are not part of parent square yet, but when we make that shift over, I think that probably happens July 1st. That's my guess. Yeah. Um that's when we get out that with this book. >> My thought is the numbers are not ready. >> Is it going to be or you could authorize someone to start I'd like to make a motion to create a subcommittee to work on this childcare um program with I can't remember the name champions champion

062champions to um develop more information and hopefully bring this opportunity to the time. >> All in favor? >> I join. >> Thank you. Do we need a motion? >> So, it will be me and Sam. Thank you. Um I'm going to decide to add the solar discussion right. Um so I did get some information about making a transition to solar um and the cost the I I want to discuss it a little bit more. Um the quote or the proposal itself includes all of the town buildings um and suggestions. So, I felt like discussing it with the select board and sharing it with them would probably be a good place to start. There are options um that would allow us to have more of a return um but there's a much more significant cost to

063start. Um and then there's other options that would not give us so much of a return um but would not have a startup cost. I did ask about grants um to cover the startup cost if we wanted to report it. She said that there were um some opportunities to look more into those. Um but I will share this with the select board and we can have um the information because there is it would save a substantial amount all of electricity for the town and moving into academic affairs committee and costs. I apologize in advance. It is a long list. Um so I have um a large number of policies to bring to the committee for our first read today. Um so we are recommending five new policies for adoption which is uh ECD emergency school

064and district closings. EA video and audio surveillance on the school property. E E A A use of private vehicles to transport students. JICC, student conduct on buses. JJF, student activities fund management. Um we are bringing eight new policies that we're recommending to the board for region for BDA board organizational meeting. PG board policy process EBCC bomb threats. ECA building inspections. ECAF video and audio surveillance on school property. EA transportation services. EAF special uses of school buses. JIC weapons on school property. And then we are recommending for withdrawal for the first read 27 policies. AEB recognition for accomplishment. BGE board officers. BDF board advisory committees. BE DGDC plan to change, BGA policy development system, BGE policy adoption, BGC policy revision and review, BGE policy dissemination, CF school building administration, CFA school administrative personnel, DIAA student activities,

065plaza management, EA support services, EBCAB emergency shelter. ECE delayed openings emergency closings. EC buildings grounds property management. ECAA buildings ground security. ECCA annual fire extinguisher inspection. EA EAA bus driver free policy. EA FA school related trips. E use of private vehicles to transfer students. GBAA sexual harassment and sexual violence. GBED tobacco ecigarette products ban use in possession in and on school facilities and grounds. JVAA sexual harassment and sexual violence. G JGA student electronic communications. JHP student absences and truency. JHPD attendance policy on days designated as remote learning days. J IC tobacco ecigarettes products being used in possession in non-school facilities and crimes. Thank you. Um and that we will bring those to the second reading on May 13th. Um so first read just means that if anybody has any questions they can email them and

066we can go to the second. Um the second and uh that goes for everybody else too. If anybody has any questions >> and where are we getting these policies from? They're coming from the schoolboard association. Correct. Okay. >> And most of them are required by the state. >> Okay. So required by the state. We're not changing anything in >> the ones for withdrawal um have been updated in newer policies that we recently Okay, perfect. So, a motion to accept those, right? The ones that you Okay. >> So, introduce >> I was thinking the first five. Okay. All right. Moving into the finance committee update. No update from them. And then the community relations update. Um our Facebook page is going well. We are getting more and more members. So thank you guys for joining. Um

067we will continue to update these there as well as the um schoolboard um website so that everyone has the information they need. >> Can we put the tiny tots stuff on our schoolboard? >> Yeah. Um I'll need a digital copy. >> Okay, perfect. If you guys get us a digital copy, we will get it on the page as well. All right. Um nothing further for community relations. So moving into advanced planning. >> Absolutely. So no school for spring recess April 27th through May 1st. As I mentioned before, joint boards meeting on May 4th at 6 PM. The next school board meeting will be May 13th at 6 PM and the arts night in May on May 14th. Excellent. Thank you. Moving into public input. >> Oh, sorry. Um I was just wondering so for the

068school nurse position I know um other towns and cities have used um LPNs or LNAS um or paramedics. Do we have it as just an RN because of the CBA? >> Um no it was a state requirement um and they have to have three years experience because the other half the RN have to have three years experience. >> So they matter. So the state now requires because another option if it wasn't for the state is hiring potentially a paramedic who I think would probably be I would personally feel better having a paramedic versus an RN because paramedics would have the training and the skills for a trauma which would most likely happen in a elementary school. I have the playground all the time. Um, and they auto they have PALS and ACLS. They have all

069of the things. So, just too bad that the state requires specifically an R because I think that's just a feelgood thing versus a training. But it was going to be a suggestion of hiring not necessarily a lower level, but a different medical person. could have saved a significant amount of money, >> but it is a lot >> it is a law. We did because we went to one of the requirements where they have to be an it could be an associates or bachelor but they have to have at least three years experience. >> Yeah, because do I know do schools and Rochester schools had LPN had they actually had LNAS at one point >> they're individually to the nurses. They have to have a nurse that oversees them >> because magnet street school only we

070had in the building. >> I don't know. We because that was one of the things we talked about diggally up and pulled the law and it was so and typically an an >> because you have because a L and an L cannot work without the license. >> Huh? an >> ina they can't >> they yeah an LPN has to be overseen all of their stuff has to be signed off by RN >> I know that because I deal with the hospital all the time everything has to be signed for the state law >> I just had another idea as far as the nurse because I agree not having a nurse here all the time um instead of having one part-time maybe have two part-time where they could work two and a half two and a

071half days a week. So they would have flexible schedule. One can work the beginning of the week, one can work the end of the week or each work half days. I don't know. But that gets you out of the benefits. It still is more than you know because you're adding out the hours but you're taking away the benefits which is a huge expense in itself. >> We can consider just have a substitute that we have. >> We can Yeah, I think that's I think it's it's a creative thought process and we can look at that. Um the concern was that it might be something there might be something within the CDA. So we'll look at that to see if that might be something because I think potentially having not necessarily part time, but part time

072might be helpful because if you have an absence because the nurse has to be out that would give us someone that knows the kids within the building that would be a little more scary, but we can definitely get to that. >> Yeah. Appreciate that. I needed all the creativity we can get at this area. >> Go ahead. >> Yeah. So when you're talking about the um maintenance so um and you talking about a reduction of one of the positions in in doing that obviously they're both full-time so the benefit line on here would go down. So if you put them both at parttime 75% then you'd be absorbing all of that and you have that based off of this budget. I'm looking at this current year budget. I don't know next year probably for the

073benefits is like 40 44,000. So I would think that the 44,000 would more than make up for the being able to if you combine that along with the wages and then offer the benefits to just >> but I don't know maybe that's why he was looking at when he was saying okay this doesn't be able to gain these this money for benefits up to that line but Yeah, >> just one of the things that I do not have familiarity about is labor laws and at what point you have to provide benefits or not. So the proposal that I had was one full-time and one at four hours a day because then I know that benefits are not required. No. So, we talked we've talked about the special education and how much has been expended, how

074much is remaining in that we we put out the agreement to withdraw $200,000 >> up to 200. >> Up to right and I just wanted to be clear and I think I heard this but we haven't used any of the $200,000. Right. >> It has not been used yet. >> Right. That's what I thought because I'm just looking at your at the bottom at the very end and it says percent remaining of your budget is 2.19% and you still have two months to go. Any other public comments? >> No, I think I I know. I'm sorry. I think you asked this question, Rebecca, when you were going over the finances and I couldn't hear you out. Did you ask about contacted services and why that line is so spent? >> Yes, I did. >> And

075I didn't hear the whole Sorry, I didn't hear the whole explanation. >> Um, some of it was snow. It was snow was snow removal additional cost for snow removal and some unexpected. Um, >> so we took that out of a separate line. So I'm talking contract services that the school board Oh, the contractor. It was legal. >> Sorry. >> So, we didn't put that in the legal line. >> Okay. So, that one is the contract budget 3,000 and we spent like7,000. >> Any other Go ahead. I have to say it. Don't forget our egg hunt. Saturday night, 7:30 for 6 and under, around 7:40ish or so. The older kids out here on the playground, we have over 3,000 eggs to hide. >> So, it should be fun. Hopefully, the field will dry up. >> Yeah.

076Make sure there's no >> Yeah, you may want. >> I came in and read the first grade class and it was really fun. We had the good St. Patrick's Day so everybody was wearing green and it was good fun. It's not good. >> Thank you for >> and I read the second phrase and I loved it. You were a great class. >> My flavor chang. And again, thank you guys for coming to read, but the opportunity is out there for people who want to volunteer. We would love to have people. So, anyone can reach out to Ivy and she will be happy to walk them through the steps to be able to fund it all. The more the marrier. Okay. Closing comments by board members. Sarah, but Well, I want to thank the helpful hers

077and headonos for their presentation. I'm hearing a lot about it, so I'm really excited to see it come to fruition. Um, and on another note, I am going to be designing my seat on board as last week. Um, I have limited time and energy available and I want to save that for the people. I want to thank everyone on the board. a honor and wish you guys a lot. >> Um, so I want to also thank the help of hers as well as the second grade class, but I also do want to thank you Heather um for your time. He's been a great asset. Um, um, so I did want to say though that my girls loved having the technology center presentation today. So I just wanted to throw that out there. Well, I agree

078with every I agree with everyone. The presentations were amazing tonight. The head honchos. I'm really excited to see you guys offer this um tiny talks playing group. I think it's exciting and wonderful to bring more and more people into the school um and into our area. The second grade did an amazing job. I loved learning about all of their research. I 100% felt the head would be missed. I understand her need to step back. Um, but you'll be greatly missed. You have been an asset to this board and we appreciate all you've done and you want us to go. If anyone is interested in filling big shoes to fill but you can reach out. >> Yes, Nicole will be posting it and we'll give all the steps as far as going forward to apply for

079that. >> Yes. Um, also I am going to do my absolute very best. I'm not told that surprise. Um, the next meeting I as of right now I don't think I can attend. Um, unfortunately I'm working that night and there are other people on vacation. So the opportunities for covering um so that I can leave early are very limited. Um, so I will do my best. Um but unfortunately my role um after 5:00 especially my headphones are crazy because I still have a supervisor in the building. So I don't think I get called in um either. I will not be able to come in on the phone. So I am going to continue to do my best but I may be having a meeting. So I apologize for that. >> All right. Well let's look

080at >> um do we have any non tonight? >> Okay. So we do have some personel non tonight. Um We will sorry together.
