002next slide, Mr. So we're here to talk just a little bit about the extracurricular activities aside from sports here at Kerry Junior High and also um to recognize our staff who put in um hours to work with our students after school. I made this graphic to kind of show you what um extracurriculars uh contribute to school. It's not just a place for kids to go after school. It does promote academic growth in addition to some social emotional growth and also some life skills that uh like leadership, communication, teamwork. Um and so it's really important in addition to what we're doing in our classroom with content um that we provide students a place after school where they can connect um and have some great peer relationships and have more engagement with school. So what I'd like
003to do is to introduce our clubs and their sponsors um a little one at a time. Mr. Shepard. So the first one is academic club and that's run by um Mr. Rosenbomb, Matt Rosenbomb and Eden Cinitine. He's going to talk just a little bit about academic club. So uh academic club is a club where we offer kids the opportunity to compete against other schools. We'll be competing against uh 12 schools this year. We have two online tournaments. One we already finished in the fall. We got third place out of 18 different schools. Uh and we have the next tournament actually on Friday, the online tournament. Um and then um we had 53 kids try out, but we were only able to keep 20 because we have to like rotate the kids in and out. So
004uh we kept 20 kids and it was awesome to have that amount of kids that really wanted to come out and partake and be part of answering trivia questions and going up against other schools. And so it's a lot of fun to get to do that. So that's kind of what we do for academic club. >> The next is anime club run by Gina Chzn and Margaret Abushama. >> Hello. Um so um before we begin we want to uh have an announcement then in this club we're going to use Japanese pronunciation and it's anime. Anime club is a group of about 50 students who share interest in anime um art and Japanese culture and as uh Dr. Co mentioned is sponsored by me Abu Sharma and Mrs. Chzn and we meet every other Tuesday and
005the during the meeting uh students spend the first half playing uh games and uh we have different activities for them uh to learn about Japan and origins of anime and also we create um anime inspired uh inspired artwork. And um the second half of each meeting is dedicated to watching favorite um anime selections. And >> this is really fun. >> Yeah, it is fun. We have a lot of kids. Actually, when I started, we had only a group of few. This year we got 50 on the list. So, it's growing. >> And then the next one is art club. Um, and I is Maya here? No. Maya Surmach is one of our new teachers. So, she runs the art club and they do a variety of activities from sculptures to painting. Um, a variety of
006mediums and kids um, love it. And as you can see, there's quite a few kids who show up for art club. The next one is Band by Audrey. Hi everyone, I'm Audrey Bros. So, I'm the band director here. I work with three grade level bands during the day during when as classes and then I do have one extracurricular band called jazz band that meets before school twice a week. Um uh we've had a great year for band. These are the biggest numbers we've had since co I think we have 123 students uh in total band students this year. So again biggest numbers since co um I thought I'd talk just a little bit about what's happening in band right now. uh our jazz bands uh preparing for their concert at Kerry Grove High School which
007is March 19th. And we do this concert every year. We're invited uh to the high school to perform. Uh the jazz band at Fox River Grove also performs and then the middle school students get to hear two high school jazz groups perform. So it's a great opportunity for them to listen and meet um the jazz band students at the high school and get a feel for the program. uh my concert band students uh some of them I think it's about 40 to 50 are also participating in solo and ensemble festival so that's what they're working on right now and this is a totally optional uh opportunity for students to prepare a piece either a solo by themselves or to work in an ensemble which is a small group and they'll prepare a piece mostly on
008their own time and they'll perform in front of a judge and the judge will work with them a little bit and then give them a score and then based on their score they get a medal so I like to call it the band Olympics Um, so that's what they're currently working on. And again, it's totally optional. So, it's really great opportunity for students to kind of be leaders in the band. Yeah, that's about it. And then we have the broadcast club, which is also run by Mr. Rosenbomb. You're going to find that these same people sitting here are running multiple clubs. >> So, the broadcast club was uh a piloted club that uh Mr. surely approved while Dr. Qualls was actually um out uh at the beginning of the year. We had seven kids uh
009come to me about uh starting that and so they got to broadcast uh basketball games on uh Google or sorry on um on the iPad and then we load into Google for them to review. We had a couple of the high schoolers uh who are doing the broadcasting for Kerry Grove High School come and they ended up uh helping to teach them and train them on how to do that. And then at the end of the year, a number of them were able to go and be part of the broadcast at the high school and get to be part of the halftime interviewing to just kind of highlight some of the things that they were learning and all the fun that they got to have. And the parents really enjoyed getting to hear the skill
010and the development of the kids from game one to the end of the season in terms of calling a game. So there we go. >> And then chess club, which is run by Carolyn Doug. Hi, we uh have about 30 to 35 students in chess club this year which is really awesome. All different levels. So we we always say just come and play with us. So um I guess our main thing we always say is we never lose. You only win or you learn. So that is our saying that we say all the time. We have a lot of fun. If you ever want to come by and join us, uh we'd love to have you. And then we have choir run by Ashley Zokos. >> Hi everyone. Uh so yes I run the choir
011here. It's after school program. Um we actually have like two choirs. So, if you see the two pictures, one was from our Fox Valley participants, which was um earlier this year where we had a couple students who spent extra time with me learning really uh complicated uh music in different languages and even some in English. And they got to go in a big choir with um a bunch of different middle schoolers in our conference. So, that was a really cool experience for them. And then our choir, we have our concert that was in uh the winter and December where they got to learn a bunch of fun songs. They chose our theme which was broad. We did Broadway theme this year. So, we got to do a lot of fun songs from Wicked and from
012Newsies and even some that they didn't know like 42nd Street, which they ended up loving in the end. So, it was really, really fun. And then our Dragon Activity Board run by these three ladies, uh, Katie Baker, Carrie Whisser, and Becca Waters. >> Appreciate the board. Next slide. Thank you. >> So, Dragon Activity Board um is a student leadership kind of um club that we have students kind of run a lot of the activities around the school. So, it's really cool to see all these kids kind of flourish with their leadership roles and take ownership of a lot of these things that we do in the school and it's really run by them. So, we will offer something to them. They'll kind of get a list and we'll kind of go through the process and
013say, "What do you want to do this time around?" So, there's a lot of things that we do throughout the year. if you could see behind me. Um, couple of things are um the torch mascot. We're in charge of that as well and we have the kids sign up for every Friday to come be torch and walk around the school and take pictures and sometimes torch shows up at the assemblies and things like that. But the kids actually sign up for that, write it in their calendar and then come be torch and have a little bodyguard and the kids love it. So, um, we did candygrams this year. We did Valentine's Day candygrams. students came up with that instead of doing the um candy canes that we do. So, that was a really cool fundraiser
014to see the kids taking ownership again, collecting the money and organizing it for the kids. So, it was really neat to see that. Um and then I think the rest Yeah. >> All right. And then aside from the school, we also have several community events. So, we really encourage the students to get involved in the community, give back. That's where a lot of our fundraising money has gone. So you can see a couple of the events, Veterans Day and PAD lunches. We um work with Dr. Falls and we've actually had students pack lunches, pack cookies and little notes for veterans to give back to the community here in Kerry. And in addition also the monster mash. That would be probably our biggest event. So that's how we get a lot of students to start in
015sixth grade and stick with it. Seventh and eighth grade have representation from all three grades and the students love planning it and seeing their work in one of our biggest events of the year. And then our last event we do for the year is coming up is fifth grade orientation. So the students we have about on average 20 to 30 students every meeting. We meet every other other week and they plan the fifth grade orientation. So they actually come up with the rotations and the scripts that they're going to give to the fifth graders. And then when the fifth graders come through they actually give the tours with the signs and they give all the speeches about what it's like to be a junior high dragon. Thank you. 016which is also run by Carolyn Dunn >> again. So, drama club's another fun place. I would love you all to come sometime. But we do a lot of improv there. Uh just because there's no prep and things like that, but we really work on developing creativity, teamwork, go with the flow, give some gifts to other people, participate. Uh I think it's really helping them gain their confidence, helps with public speaking, it helps in so many areas, I think, no matter what they do in life. And we do have students who will just sit and watch and hang out with us. And there are others who get up there and um just keep developing those skills. So we have a lot of fun again about 30 to 35. Then we start worrying about um auditions for
017the musical. We kind of help them through that because for sixth graders a lot of time it's their first time ever trying to audition for something and we do relate it to like a job interview. So we talk about what it's like to walk into a room, what it's what should you do when you're leaving the room and how you should talk and things like that. So a lot of good life skills I think in drama club. And then we run a Dungeons and Dragons club and that's run by Mr. Judson who I don't believe is here this evening. So, um there's a lot of creativity that goes on in that club. And then we have a homework club which is run by Tama Astro. So, uh the homework club, um we don't have pictures
018of kids here. Uh we have different kids that show up every single week. We do run four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays. we have an hour um and we do run two rooms. We have one room um in the library for just everyone is welcome and then we have another room that's specifically for students with IEPs. The IEP room is staffed by special education staff every single day and the general education room has certified teachers there every single day. Kids can come in to get help with their homework. Kids can come in to work on group projects. They can come in to study for a test because maybe that's not a skill they've developed in the past. So, it's really great for them to have access to these teachers. The teachers are so generous
019with their time. They come in, they sit with these kids, work with them one-on-one. And the fact of the matter is, some kids don't have a good place to do homework when they get home. They might come home to a chaotic environment. They might be babysitting for their younger brothers and sisters, or they might just know about themselves, I'm not so organized. When I get home, I know I'm going to be distracted, so I'm going to stay. And we service about 50 kids per week. We have them sign in. Um, it helps us fulfill IEP goals for some kids, um, and accommodations. So, it's a really great place. And like uh Dr. Paul said, there's a lot of people here that also work with me in the homework club. So if you guys um have
020worked in the homework club ever, just give us a wave. Yeah. So a lot of like she said, a lot of repetition, but it's a great program and I'm so glad we can offer it to the kids. And then game club, and that is run by Jen Wayhammer. >> Um hi guys. I also um co-sponsor with Ryan Nelson. We have um just a couple kids in it right now. I just wanted to read like a little excerpt from my book from my favorite author talking about chess, back gammon, card games, board games, cross word puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles whether played solo with a partner or in a whole group of people are wonderful for leisure time as they foster connection, laughter, concentration, joy, and healthy competitiveness. Um so again, I think it's great because we
021don't do any electronic games. Everything is old school board games here and the kids do have a lot of fun. They're playing different games each week. >> Lego club, which I think is run by Jen. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, Lego Club is something that is run um for 12 weeks in the spring. We do game club in the fall. Um I co-sponsor that with Chiselle, Papa Lewis. Um the kids who come every week, they continue to come and build. So I save their projects week from week to week and the kids continue to build upon what they've done the previous week and they are so creative and they really wish that they could have this club longer than 12 weeks. So and then media club is run by Tama Astro and Katie Marshall.
022Um, so this was a pilot year for the media club. It's the first that we've had it. So, um, it went about 10 12 weeks. >> 12 weeks all together. >> 12 weeks altogether. We managed to get out two episodes which if you go to the next slide, if you would like to scan that QR code, it will take you to the YouTube uh station which has our first two pilot episodes, but students would um pick stories. They would, you know, put their ear to the ground, see what was going around in school, and they wrote, directed, filmed, edited. like it is really basically I'm so proud of these kids and what we were able to accomplish in just the 12 weeks. It's incredible. So, um sir, >> um as a former member of the
023technology group, we did student news in the elementary schools kind of as an in-class project and some of these kids remembered that and they were able to apply those same skills that they had learned before. It was so great to see them interviewing adults. They were so nervous initially. What am I going to say? What am I going to do? And they were so supportive of one another. We did do it for 12 weeks because that was the format we had available. But we are trying to increase that. We would love to have a student news broadcast throughout the school year. I think there's plenty of wonderful things being done at our school and in our community that we could share. So, we really enjoyed it and we'd love to come back next year. And
024most of our kids were sixth and seventh graders. So, I think we'll get some build on that. Bring them on back. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> And then we have a recycling club that happens every Friday. It's run by Nathan Joel. Um, what I think is really special about this club is that our TLC students are involved and stay on Fridays. Um, and to see them in an after-school activity with our general education students is really something special. Um, so it's uh my favorite part of Fridays is to see them in the in the office collecting all the recycling with the general education students. So it's really special. And then the spelling bee that's run by Lisa Sparks and um Alisa Lamb. And so they organize it and then host the spelling bee and
025then they um help our students off to the regional tournament. So thanks to them. And then stage crew, is that you Blanca? Jackie Ardopoulos runs stage crew. She is not here. Today's Violet's birthday, so happy birthday to Violet. Um, so stage crew is really all about everything on the stage with the musical and it's awesome to see these kids super excited about doing this. Um, and they work really hard after school and amazing on the stage when you see the changes that happen in between scenes. It's all because of these kids. So amazing to them. Tech crew is you Ashley, right? Ashley Zokos. Yes. So, this one is me. Um, I do help out uh with tech crew. Uh, tech crew, we actually have our biggest group we've had yet and it's really exciting because
026we they actually help like run the equipment. Um, which as you can imagine um is a task in itself to teach these kids like how to like use it properly and train all them and show them all the different ways to do them. And sometimes I feel like they teach me as much as I teach them. Especially with some of the things we're working with cuz um when we had like our new um soundboard last year, I remember things where I was like, "Well, I think you know how to do this." And they're like, "Wait, Miss Bzie, this is how you actually do that." I was like, "Wait, how did you do that? Show me again." Um so it's really amazing what they can do. And it's all sixth and seventh and eighth graders. And
027they also will help out with the spring musical here soon. So, and then we have writing club which is run by Jackie Ardropolis who is not here again. Happy birthday, Violet. Um, and these are kids who just like to write and they write various things from poetry to plays to lyrics to songs. Anything you can dream up, they're writing. Um, and so it's really exciting to see as a former English teacher that we've got kids who love to write. And then the yearbook club is sponsored by Lisa Sparks and these three darlings put together the entire uh yearbook. So, God bless them because it's a lot of work. Um, and so they're at all events taking photos and organizing and working with Lisa to get that yearbook out. So, uh, a big thank you to
028these three kids. And then we have something special. Um, Ashley, do you want to talk about that? We have some kids here from the musical. So, I'm going to let Ashley talk to you education because I think we're seeing higher and higher numbers in our extracurricular programs because of the activity bus and the funds that you're putting towards that. So, thank you so much for that. Um, I do think that that is why we're seeing such an increase and and a willing to willingness to stay. I also want to thank all of these um teachers here who put in a lot of work after school um when they don't have to when they can get in their cars and go home, but they choose to spend it here um enriching the lives of our students.

We have three staff members for the first time ever have been uh recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and their Those Who Excel program. So, um I am going to I think they're all here tonight. I'm going to ask them to come up. the program that they do through the Illinois State Board is um they have multiple levels of uh different types of awards they have for all different things. And so I will talk about each person individually a little
030bit and I will ask um the the three people to uh come up here as I call them. So the first one I'm going to talk about is Melissa Haniker. So Melissa, if you could come up if you want to stand right over here. So Melissa is a PAR professional at Three Oaks and she is being recognized by uh ISBY for an award of special recognition. The award of special recognition acknowledges educators who are valued members of their school community who have been recognized for their skills, passions and talents that they bring to the school community. Um, specifically, Melissa is being recognized for her work in the bridge program, supporting students with social emotional needs. And she was nominated for her positivity and generosity with the students and her colleagues, as well as her ability
031to create opportunities for students to grow to achieve their potential. So, congratulations to Melissa Haniker uh on the Isby award of special recognition. And if if you could stay up here, Melissa, next I would like to ask Amy Han to come up. Amy Han uh is a she is a STEM teacher at Brierggate in Oaknull. She has actually received the award of excellence which is the most prestigious award that those who excel um honors which recognizes educators that have demonstrated a community to or commitment to equity and the success of all students as well as those who regularly collaborate with colleagues, students and families to create a positive school culture. So, Miss Han was recognized for her role specifically in the creation of the standards aligned curriculum maps for STEM, which is the first time
032that we have done curriculum maps for STEM, which was a big deal. Um, her collaboration with the classroom teachers and identifying common areas in the STEM curriculum and the science curriculum, uh, to ensure that mutually supportive instruction happens across the content areas for all of our students. Um, our students learn about the work of local scientists. Also, this is a scientist of the month program that she started. local scientists who make connections between what uh the students are learning in class and how science shapes the world around them. So, please help me in congratulating Amy in achieving the ISBY award of excellence as a teacher. And finally, uh Mr. Black, Kyle Block. So, Mr. Black is a principal at uh Three Oaks Elementary and he also received the highest honor, the Isby Award of Excellence.
033Mr. Black was nominated for his work in strengthening community connections through numerous family events uh that bring parents, caregivers, and students together such as afterchool clubs and collaboration with the uh PTO to build playgrounds. He's also being recognized for his advocacy for bilingualism and biiteracy, particularly for his support of the students in our dual language program. Further, he's also recognized for his role as one of the team of Three Oak staff members who together provided life-saving measures last year when responding to a medical emergency of a community member. So, thank you also and congratulations, Mr. Black. And I do have a certificate for each of you that I'm going to come over and give. I just won't have a microphone. Hi. Hello. Good evening, everybody. My name is Stephanie Schwall. Um, I am up here tonight. I am a representative representative of the Kerry Basketball Association, also known as the CBA, and I wanted to express my opposition to the proposed fee
035increase for the gym facilities. Um, the CBA is the premier league in Kerry for kids to play basketball and also the only one. Uh, our park district doesn't offer basketball. So the CBA is a volunteer-run organization and we currently have close to 700 kids enrolled in the CBA. Most of them are Carrie and a lot of them are District 26. Um so that being said, if you could take a look at the little handout that I provided earlier, you could take a look at the pie chart there. The dark blue, which is about 50% of the pie chart, that represents the cost of gym rental for us. That is by far above and beyond the biggest expense of the CVA. Increasing gym space by even just a little bit is going to really impact our
036families. And our goal is to make sure that we provide a fun, safe, awesome youth sports program for everybody in our town at an affordable price for our families. Um, in fact, uh, one of my colleagues here, um, is able to negotiate other gym space based on district 26 prices. So, if there is an increase in district 26 prices, it's going to go up not just for the gym space cost here, but also in other facilities because we have so many kids that we have to spill over to other gyms in the area. Um, I think that it would be really beneficial um if the board chose not to increase the costs for our families. Um, right now I think the district is in pretty good financial shape. Um, historically, you know, we have the
0375% fee um, tax increase um, that went into effect. There was also Maplewood, $5.5 million cash payment this summer. And there's also the referendum that the community supported the district in for a $20 million uh, addition to our school district. So, right now, you guys are in really good financial shape. And I think that if you take that into perspective, uh, you know, maybe nickeling and dimming the parents who are just trying to have their kids in youth sports, maybe now is not the time to do that. It would be time to, um, support the community like they have for the district. So, thank you very much for considering. I appreciate it. >> Thank you. 038So, as um Stephanie alluded, I'm also representing the Kerry Basketball Association. I'm the vice president, co-vice president and scheduler for the program. And I'm also here as a parent of children who play in the league. Um, so as Stephanie mentioned, you know, we are here to talk about the increased gym rental rates and the significant impact that it will have on our community, particularly CBA, but other recreation sports programs as well who use the space. Um, our recreation and feeder leagues rely on school gym access to provide both safe and affordable sports opportunities for children and families. And as Stephanie mentioned, we have over almost 700 participants this year. And we have had to spill over to Fox River Grove and Crystal Lake because even within Kerry, we don't have enough gym space. Um, but
039having gym space in Kerry, you know, promotes more community with everybody who is participating. Um, and there's a lot of other benefits which I have to rely on my notes because I'm not very good at speaking in public. Um, but I wanted to mention that, you know, we're not for-p profofit. We operate on tight budgets. Um, and we are funded primarily by registration fees. We have expanded this year to try to increase our sponsorship as well so that we can also bring in some additional fees through those sponsorships to help pay hopefully next year. We're hoping to have some scholarships for children whose families are not able to um provide those fees. And when these rental rates increase, the costs are directly passed on to the families. Um, and as Stephanie showed through that graphic,
040rental rates account for more than half of CBA's current budget. For the 2025 2026 season, CBA expects to use approximately 1,250 hours of D26 gym space. As I said, we're also in other gyms as well. And a $10 um increase for this will represent a $12,500 increase in our rental fees next season. Now, for many households, you know, this modest increase in fees can mean the difference between participation and sitting out for a season. As you're probably well aware, community sports programs like CBA also offer direct support to the schools because they promote physical fitness and healthy habits. They strengthen school community relationships, and they also create a feeder system that supports middle and high school athletic programs. Now, a few years ago when I first started on the board, um D26 doubled the gym
041rental rates. Um and CBA adjusted to that budget and absorbed the increases, but we did have to increase our rates for our families as well. Um and ultimately, it's taken several years for CBA to kind of rebuild its reserves um following this rate increase. And we also continue to face other increases such as uh referee fees. Um, so another rental rate this soon uh will put us in a difficult position and we will have to ultimately raise rates again. Um, and so I was hoping to propose two different potential options. You know, we do understand the snow removal fee. I think that's 100% reasonable that CBA should be asked or other entities should be asked to pay for that if we're the only ones using the gym. Um, but for the rental rates, it would
042be helpful if we could do a phasedin rate increase. perhaps $5 this year and $5 the year after that or have a plan in place to ensure that rates remain fixed for a minimum of three years so that we can plan appropriately for our budgets. Um, and I want to say I had the chance to attend the Deer Path Mother Son carnival on Friday and it was a good chaotic mess of boys and their moms and I don't know that we achieved the goal of sons and moms doing anything together, but the boys had a great time and that was worthwhile. Um, so I am going to say my congratulations to Arya Salt for winning the Three Oak spelling be uh, fifth grade at 3. She is the winner and she's going to represent Three Oak School in District 26, March 18th. if you guys are free at 3:30 at Bernotus in Crystal Lake. Um I know she will have some supporters from Three Oaks there. Um so with that, congratulations. Uh Nicholas was second and her study partner Aid and Aiden was third and they did phenomenal. The spelling be is way more scary than a basketball game. That is for sure. I was I Googled a lot of words. It's crazy. Um, so also with
047that, I want to say thanks to Miss Papalist because she took my daughter in mid year and helped her fly um from a crazy situation and she's really uh nurtured my daughter and made her such a success and I love that. Um, and Miss Curran who is meeting with my daughter twice a week to teach her um all the different types of words, Greek, Spanish, what all the other types I don't even know. It's so many words. 049on board. Dr. Sarah Catchuri, who is being recommended as the superintendent, as well as Dr. Kristen, uh Bordonero, who is being recommended for the assistant superintendent for special services. So, um many thanks to them. I've gotten to talk to them and know them a little bit and we've done a lot of transition planning and we're really looking forward to getting started. Um, also we have at Kerry Junior High our logo contest. It is not too late if you want to submit your original artwork. Um, the deadline is this week on the 27th of February. Um, it's original artwork. We're looking to create a new logo uh that represents the tradition sorry tradition, pride, and values of Kerry Junior High. If you would like more information, you can contact the Kerry Junior High office and they

The committee of the whole next week will be or I'm sorry, next month will be a little bit early due to spring break. Miss Rivera. Yeah, I'm excited to share this month's um highlight. It's pretty well-rounded in community connections what I'm going to share with you today. Um thank you to Oak No, I see you. Um to Lisa and also to Rosie Condi for hosting our kindergarten nights. Um yep. So kindergarten, our first dual kindergarten night was
051last week. Um, tomorrow our Oakn Null kind will be happening at Oaknull and then Wednesday will be a second virtual dual kinder night. We know how important the foundation is to our students learning. We've had a lot a lot a lot of attention and detail put into our early learning and so we just want to make sure all of our families are aware of this opportunity to learn about kindergarten and get a strong head start. Now recognizing our parents. I want to say thank you to the parents that attended this month's parent university. We had our second book study session of the anxious generation. Um our parents from the very first session. They were very transparent in wanting to create a space where they could communicate and share thoughts and opinions on just the realities
052of what is going on in the world with their children and technology. And so our conversations this month were centered on the decline of play, the rise of phone-based childhood, and the importance of intentionally building independence at home and school. That's the first part of the of the meeting together. The second part then starts to shift into what we're doing here in Kerry 26 to understand our instructional systems and practices. And um so we went through our lesson delivery model, how we promote the gradual release, student autonomy, structured collaboration, and purposeful engagement. lots of rich conversation between our our parents um that are there together. Our next one is coming up March 18th. Those are chapters four through six. Uh if you have any questions, please email me. Next, I wanted to highlight district collaboration.
053So, we've talked about early learners, we've talked about our parents, and now I want to highlight our staff and just other districts that are coming together to partner with Kerry 26. Um, a couple weeks ago we had Sandwich District 430 reach out and we had a mutual meeting together um to discuss. They asked us many questions related to our literacy um systems and structures. And so what started as what they thought was going to be a simple conversation just delved into in-depth conversations surrounding again the standards by trimester, the task that or or the route that we took to build the curriculum maps and so on and so forth. We then also hosted car our Crystal Lake District 47 last week. Um and again was it today? No, late last week. So last week they
054came not only to learn about our assessments through the I Ready platform and then to learn about progress monitoring, what we're doing, what we're continuing to do, areas of success, areas of continued growth, lots of rich conversations centered there. But then they also went to uh Three Oaks to observe the day-to-days that take place at Three Oaks where we talk about not we they they talk about uh in-depth conversations every single student and they're um progress monitoring the reflecting on student data and they're engra engaging in reflective conversations to goal set with our students surrounding our students both in literacy and math. And so from both of those, district 430 and 47, the key takeaway is sometimes I forget all the work that has transpired over the past three years. When we leave those conversations,
055their recognition of the work that our teachers have been doing over the past three years is just immense. And then I'm reminded of, wow, there has been a huge lift the past three years. in Kyrie 26 is doing great work and many many many other districts are recognizing that and seeing that and that's why they're asking to come here to see what we're doing to help support their growth within their own districts. And then lastly, communication from schools are coming out to parents regarding five essentials. We've wrapped up access and I Ready. 059at Oaknull. So, we have a busy summer coming up. Uh we went out to bid on January 13th. That's when bids were made available uh for this project at Deer Path and Three Oaks. Uh a mandatory pre-bid meeting was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20 20th. Uh we had a pretty good turnout with multiple U contractors uh attending. Uh the bid opening was at 2 p.m. on February 10th. Uh and we had three bids submitted. The three bids came in from Bowler Construction, Tyler Lane Construction, and uh Manusel's General Contracting. Uh after reviewing the bids, uh it is the recommendation of our architect, and we concur uh that Tyler Lane's uh bid was most responsive uh to uh the district's bid proposal. We would recommend that the the board approve uh the bid

Give me a second. The recommendation. The board of education is recommending the employment of Dr. Sarah Catchuri as the next superintendent of schools for Kerry Community Consolidated School District 26 commencing July 1st, 2026 through June 30th, 2029 for a three-year contract. Dr. Catchi is being recommended to replace Dr. Jennifer Thomas as she ends her term as interim superintendent on June 30th, 2026. Uh the interview process, the approval of our new superintendent is a culmination of comprehensive search conducted by the board via the assistance of the search firm Hazard Young and HYA. The search process included many hours of reviewing application materials,
063interviewing semifinalist candidates, and carefully assessing the qualifications of candidates. Hold on. In relation to the candidate profile determined by the board in conjunction with feedback received from the community survey and 14 community forums, the board evaluated 12 applicants from a pool of 37 and interviewed six before narrowing the search to the three finalists. Following interviews with the three finalists together with stakeholder feedback received, the board made the decision to select Dr. Sarah Cashuri as our next superintendent effective July 1st, 2026. A little bit about Dr. Cestory. Uh she comes to this position with highly qualifying credentials that include a doctorate of education and curriculum leadership from Northern Illinois University in 2016 and an I'm going to say somebody needs to tell me what an EDS is. Education special. Okay. from Western Illinois University 2029, a
064master of arts and education from Roosevelt University in 2003, and a bachelor of arts and biology at National Lewis University in 2000. Dr. Catator has extensive educational experience as a middle school math and science teacher, a curriculum and assessment coordinator, director of curriculum and assessment, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, and deputy superintendent. Dr. Catchi started her career as a middle school teacher in Virginia, continuing her teaching in Illinois at Community Unit District 300 and Keland Community Unit School District 302. She transitioned to administration as the curriculum assessment direct coordinator, then director of curriculum and assessment prek through 8 at Troy Community Consolidated School District 30C in Planefield. At Oakrove School District 68, Dr. Catchi was the director of curriculum and grant coordinator and then assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Since 2021, she has
065earned the Mundel she has served the Mundeline community first as the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in district 75 as a most and most recently as the deputy superintendent for Mundline High School District 120 and elementary district 75. The board of education is recommending the approval of Dr. Dr. Sarah Cachaturi for the position of superintendent of Kerry Community Consolidated School District 26. If approved, C Dr. Catchi will enter into a 12 month three-year contract at a salary of 200,000 that will begin July 1st, 2026 and end June 30th, 2029. 068She holds lure as a special education teacher, has worked in special education administration both in public schools as well as the exceptional learners collaborative. Has worked with solution tree as an associate and author and also worked as a mental health counselor in the US Navy for 15 years. And I do want to say uh literally a a week or two before we were doing the interviews, we were in an administrative meeting and our current interim director of special education held up a book and said, "We're going to use this to work with our staff on IEPs and making sure we get them really tight and we're doing them really well." And coincidentally, the co-author was Dr. Bordinero, which is kind of crazy. So, we're very excited to have her aboard. Um she was the unanimous
069first choice uh candidate in both rounds of interviews which included administrators as well as the special education staff and special educators uh from the district. Um, the phase out includes removal from the website, which has already been done, removal of the Dragon Front posters, uh, starting next year, and then longerterm phase out of things like sports uniforms that the logo is on. For example, we just purchased uniforms, I believe, for basketball. um and those last for a while. So we will do a gradual fade out of those over time. Um so the um agreement is in the board packet tonight. The process with Tiffen was very cordial. I think they used AI
071to look online and see who's using their logo and that's how they saw it and we had no idea that's where it came from. Um but as I mentioned earlier, our logo contest is underway at Kerry Junior High for a new logo. Um that could be a dragon or something else. 073completed, our facilities will be brought up to date. uh and that these funds uh will allow us to to continue to um maintain uh what we have invested in uh these facilities thus far. Um one of the items that we brought forward was uh uh for snow plowing uh because right now the district does take on all uh of that. So if there are events that are going on on the weekend, uh it it requires snow removal. Uh the district pays for uh for all of that. So, we did loop in a process by which whoever is renting the facility on the weekend, if it does snow, there is a fee that goes along with that to help uh with snow removal or salting fees. Uh we also looked at uh uh the uh usage
074fee of of rooms and the the gym and compared it with the surrounding area. Uh and we did recommend um a a $10 increase to the usage of the gym. Uh again, not uh um with the idea that uh um many of our gyms are going to be brand new uh and have new flooring. Uh and again, this is designed to help us continue to uh maintain after all the wear and tear uh that is being done in our facilities. Uh with that said, uh we would be open to hearing what the the board has to say on this topic uh and are open to conversation. >> I have a question. Um we obviously not anymore but previously had agreements with um Kyrie Grove baseball and softball. Is there a reason or is there a
075anything to your knowledge why CBA maybe doesn't have a rental agreement outside of this form? So, I feel like I'm glad that it got taken off the consent because I don't like to say no to the consent agenda, but now that I've had a week to think about it, I just think it hurts families the most and they're all a lot of
077District 26 families. So, I feel like we maybe should think of a compromise as CBA because it is hitting them the hardest. I I don't think there's any other organization that uses our winter as much as they do. So, and they do take very good care. They have so many rules about our school. don't you you you send us emails when parents are doing things wrong. So, they do they're very responsible tenants for us and like rental people from us. So, I'd rather see you guys work with them than just boost this up so that uh but it's not that I disagree with it, but I feel like there should be some kind of compromise because it is going to hurt the families the most. And I'm glad you guys came to say something. Um
078I the snow plowing I think uh asking the fraction of it that it's only if it does snow like if it doesn't snow you're not going to see that charge. Um because they're a nonprofit. I think maybe that's something we can look at and potentially um I know that we have things in place for nonprofit entities that rent facility loc. Um, so I would be open to um myself personally um working with them to try and it's important that kids have these activities. So for me um I'm in support of seeing what we can do as a district um to try and at least maintain where we are now because we know it's not a profit center for us. So that's just >> just to be clear though, the vote tonight is just on these
079fees and then CBA would have the ability to reach out to Mr. Shepard's office and negotiate is is what I'm hearing. Right. So we're still going to vote on if it's a nonCBA entity that comes in, right? we're still going to vote yes or no on these fees and that we're just encouraging these nonprofit community nonprofits to reach out and enter into a contract very much like CBA. Is that is that what I'm hearing? So just in listening to the discussion, I think my recommendation at this point would be um that uh just in looking at the the upcoming board calendar. I think we need to at the administrative level take another look at specifically the the uh the building rental part. Uh I'm I'm thrilled that uh we seem to all be in agreement
080with the snow plow uh and snow removal uh portion of it. But I think in order to do our due diligence, we are going to need to take a step uh back. Um we have uh uh board meetings coming up in March uh that are earlier than they normally would because of spring break. Uh so I think uh we need to look at this a little bit uh deeper. 087bad. It the dynamic between parents having to police this um probably staff as well um tension and stuff and I feel really bad and um this plan tonight doesn't add anything. It's not asking for anything more and I'm going to support that so we can I'm taking a breath so we can continue to educate the the students. But it doesn't feel good. I just want to say it doesn't feel good inside to think that somehow in some kind of way that I can be contributing to um negative effects on students.
