e e e a Hulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes pepis here vote Yes Gorman here read the motion and second to approve tonight's agenda second Fulk yes hemp yes Nolan yes pepis yes vote Yes Gorman yes motion is carried please join us as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance keep United States of America stands na indivisible and justice for all thanks everyone who came out tonight and those at home viewing Dr manga y thank you to everybody coming out looks like we have some good repres ation from CA some students here to be awarded so thank you for coming out as well as Administration some community members so thank you guys all right principal pgori will recognize our students who completed the or competed at the skills USA state competition so this is our second
year with skills USA at the high school and I'm proud to announce that we had about the same amount of students um go to state competition in place and had another National qualifier so skills USA is an organization that serves career in technical areas and has over 400,000 students Nationwide here tonight with us we have Grace uh bante who took first this year for nurse assisting and will travel to Nationals in Atlanta the last week of June which will be on your agenda a little later on tonight so Grace want to stand up meanwhile in other categories we have canav kapor S Gadi sh Shaw and soan Shaw here if you guys want to stand up they Place second in the entrepr entrepreneurship category nice Mia Ortiz is here and Maddie Haron could not be
here but they placed third in digital cinema and also Riker Cho and Daniel schal took third place in welding fabrication through Hampshire High School one of our pathway Partners but they're both our students as well so very proud of all of them um as well as Mr billan Mr Mr Lumis and Mrs Green for all their hard work and we're looking forward to seeing what Grace will do Mrs tallberry is planning on bringing her down to Atlanta and spend the week down there and seeing all the amazing things a very uh amazing experience to see all those kids and everything from you know baking to nursing to uh diesel mechanic Machinery events that they have at the I think it's the Illinois State Farm Arena down there as well as some other areas in the
hotels and just you know hundreds of kids from all over the country so congratulations to all you all right we're going to do public comment now uh first up Steve [Music] jurer good evening uh Steve jurer resident uh just like to make some comments regarding the school budget and expenditures for the current first school year last August a budget was put forth allocating $6.8 million for the high school addition and 4 million for the new high school building I understand having something budgeted for a new high school building makes sense in anticipation of a referendum passing however at the end of April more was spent on the new high school design than on the building of the high school addition 3.3 million versus 2.8 75% of the new high school budget was spent before the
referend referendum was even passed Larson Darby received the bulk of the funding 2 point uh 3 million over seven months for architectural Concepts and drawings it seems the district was overconfident in the referendum passing uh spending 3.3 million without voter approval is not fiscally responsible nor is it the best use of taxpayers dollars uh I would be interested in hearing the administration and boards on what they have to say regarding this issue thank you all right next we have Dave Chapman good evening uh to get started I do want to be transparent let you know that Esther is aware I'm giving a public comment tonight so you know she's not blindsided by the by the topic or anything um I did want to start off with uh there is a sheet of paper coming around
but I did want to start off with some statistics that have been you can find uh readily available on ISB but also have been mentioned at Schoolboard meetings um the first one being you know by far we spend the least per student in the area um our average class size is the largest in the area meaning that our uh teacher the student ratio is the worse um however we have one of the best admin to student ratios in the area um additionally if you look at uh ISB you'll notice that over the past three recorded years year 21 two and three we've added around uh We've increased around three full-time teachers across the entire District meanwhile at the same time we've increased by six administrators um additionally if you look at the state retention level
it is much higher than than us um our retention of staff is actually going down year after year meanwhile our state retention is actually going up so we're actually going in the opposite end I know this is something CA has brought up for years you know the struggle and and the issue with with retaining staff and then uh if you guys look at the sheet of paper that I gave you um these are FTE that were requesting to increase in the areas ESP special at an elll and I do encourage you to read that first statement there you know this isn't just ca advocating for this this is the Professionals in the classroom who are so our building reps actually talked with the individuals in these positions to see what they need for their students
to be successful next school year and for them to be able to manage their increasing workload which we're seeing going up year after year so if you look at CHS you know we're asking for an additional uh full-time special ed teacher an additional ell teacher um so that we have two next year at CMS we're asking for an additional special ed teacher and to increase the current 05 elll posted position to 1.0 at PK we're looking for an additional special education teacher at CT kind of similar to CMS to change the 0.5 elll posted position to full-time and then uh the district has decided to decrease the amount of special education teachers by 0.5 at both C T and PV and we're asking for that not to happen um you know we're talking about the
most you know vulnerable students um in our district here so you know our Professionals in the classroom see that these are vital for next school year and I did want to point out CMS specifically just to kind of you know start to make my point here um for the past seven years we've had two full-time teachers um and I did just see before I before I give a public comment today that we did post a half uh CHS half CMS bed position which I'm very grateful that we were able to you know come to some sort of compromise on that um but I guess there's two takeaways here one is I don't understand why it has to be so difficult for us to get these positions um you know our staff are saying that they
need these things and we're constantly having to Advocate through through committee work whether it's a workload committee student services um whether it's in our meeting that we had last week um but it always seems like it's very challenging for us to be able to get the things that the staff need and so I think we do need to do a better job of listening to our staff and what they need in the classroom additionally when it comes to growth is the other point you know I come to almost every single board meeting if not you know I'm listening online and I always hear that we are the fastest growing District in King County um our enrollment is growing but we're not seeing that growth be accommodated with with an increase in Staffing and just look
at the data it's pretty obvious you know our class sizes are the worst in the area we aren't spending on kids um our retention is going down and there's a big reason for that and that's because our workloads are increasing and I do encourage the school board because these these were denied um to please reflect on these and please look to add these because this is going to help our staff it's going to help retain staff I encourage you to go talk to those individuals I'm sure they're going to tell you this is what they need you know we didn't just pull this out of a hat um but most of all we need these positions for our students especially these populations which are our most vulnerable so please I I do ask that you
guys take a a close look at this and post these positions thank thank you thanks D all right C grabit hello I just want to preface that the meetings that um Dave Chapman just talked about that he said happened last week are with um Esther and Matt hog and myself and Dave so that's the meeting he was talking about where we always advocate for what the people in our buildings are talking about and what they need and on that um I'm K grait and I'm an early childhood special education teacher at priew grade school and I've been an early childhood teacher in the district for 18 years and I'm speaking to you this evening to express a deep concern regarding the district's decision to reduce two two full-time Early Childhood special education teaching positions at
priew down to 1.5 now all of you know that I'm a passionate advocate for the needs of our youngest Learners I firmly believe that maintaining two positions at full-time capacity is essential currently there are two afternoon sessions for which we have 11 children from within the community on a waight list the district is removing one of the sessions denying these 11 possible students access to our program every year students initially classified as typically developing tuition students are later discovered to have delays making them eligible for special education services the decision to exclude these children from our program is depriving them of the opportunity to receive the specialized Services interventions they may need to thrive academically and socially so for me personally as a teacher for the last six years these tuition students come in and
at least two of them end up being IEP and by not letting them in the program we're denying that that's data I can show you that data I am the longest Early Childhood specialed teacher in this District I am the data Trend I can tell you what the trends are in this District you just have to ask me teachers and administration have two different viewpoints on things Administration looks at paperwork and what's provided we are the teachers in these buildings every day working with the students we know what we need in order to best serve them and by lessening sped which Mr Chapman just talked about that is such a disservice to these students to the staff to the community we need these teachers we've been asking of this for years and yet instead of
increasing we keep decreasing I'm not understanding where the disconnect is happening if you need to know something please come ask the teachers in the room please because we can tell you show you the data we've been providing this CT PV CMS CHS we have been providing this over and over again and yet it keeps getting denied and we're not understanding why and how this is happening so we ask you the board please go into these buildings and talk to the staff and find out why they feel that we need the numbers in these buildings so that we can meet the needs of these students teachers have left this district and emailed you and told you why they've left and they've told you it's because they're not supported and they're overwhelmed they can't do their job
they have too much on their case load too much on their workload we need to support them we need to provide the special ed staff and every building that's necessary so please take the time to go into these buildings and have conversations with those who are working with these students so that the right decision is made so we can meet the the needs of all these kids especially these 11 on a wait list 11 kids out there it's a great program we're denying them the ability to come in and be part of this district and get the education they deserve and possibly an IEP that they won't get till they go to kindergarten and it takes a long time so maybe not even till first grade the younger we get them the better please we
ask you go in talk to these buildings find out the Staffing that's needed and then make sure the proper Staffing is put into place thank you thanks K all right Tim Mets good evening everybody this is Tim Mets I'd like to thank you for letting me speak here um I regarding the last meeting you guys had is about the budget on the 3.3 million expansion and the existing building that's already in progress and I understand that you kind of like muddled over it and feel as though you have to think on when you're going to approve it which I understand timing is of the essence and because the proposed uh anex building that you were going to build on the new property it kind of got put on hold and obviously the kids still coming
into the school system kind of get a move on this 3.3 um I'd like to make a motion that you approve like 2.5 and get somebody to do a little bit better job on the numbers there to kind of bring it down because I'm sure the people here need to have some justification on why it's 3.3 and not a little bit lower because it's still not totally finished yet um but it's something that you guys obviously need to discuss and get it get it handled because it's it's something that's in in the making so me from the public stance I'd like to make a motion that you get discuss it and get that approved tonight uh the other thing is you got the cash Farm lease up should have been handled in the 20th of
or back in April uh most of the farm Fields right now are already planted and up and growing and to put a minimum bid on there U by going by the books or wherever you see from the ACT news or whatever to put that number on there was kind of uh little bit hard to put that number on when here we're already planted and up and growing and when it comes to me being a producer and a farmer I know the early bird gets the worm and when it comes to growing corn to get a good test weate you got to have it planted early and the studies are showing that earlier planted soybeans are also a plus factor and when you look at a minimum bid on what you guys want from your aspect
as school you have to understand that you're already 30 days behind the behind the the growth period um I also want to point out that I think it's very good that the public is coming out here and you guys are allowing to hear their input because that shows that there's a lot of Community out there showing their interest and guiding you guys into the right direction so you don't get misconstrued so thank you thanks move on to action reports motion and second or needed to approve the consent agenda so move second um included in your board package is the revenue and expenditure reports revenues are at 52.6% compared to 4821 a year ago expenditures are at 71.8 compared to 6439 a year ago this month we also received impact fees for the month of April
for 123,00 55 96 for 19 home starts um we did receive transition fees for the time in a long time um those total $ 39,6 and then the bills payable for both Northern cane and Central are are normal for the month of May any questions for Fulk yes pil yes Nolan yes papis yes vot yes Gman yes motion is carried need a motion in second to discuss and approve the trip to skills USA national Convention in Atlanta Georgia June 24th to the 29th of 2024 so moved second good evening I guess I could just keep this simple and say what Pat said you kind of got the background but uh again like Mr podgorski said our skills us team went down had a great showing and grateful for the opportunity to provide those to those
students any questions about the trip you have more information on the trip for them 299 basally Che yeah and I apologize it was we before we had our last meeting we just approve the Poria trip and then we're working out the details for the the skills USA skills USA but the national so H yes Nolan yes papis yes vote Yes Fulk yes Gorman yes motion is carried next Motion in second to discuss and approve the a trip to State FFA convention in Springfield Illinois scheduled for June 11th to 13 2024 yeah and in your packet there there's a memo second continue yeah sorry there's information in your packet outlining that trip that uh Mr Robinson and Mr Dal will be taking some of our FFA kids excuse me down to that uh down to the
convention in Springfield Nolan yes papis yes V yes Fulk yes Anil yes Gman yes motion is carried all right we need motion second to discuss and approve the Middle School track and field overnight trip to the state competition in East P Illinois occur May 17 to 18th 2024 soov second It's Already Done May pus yes vot yes Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes Gorman yes motion is carried all right new motion and second to discuss and approve the best buddies trip to the leadership conference at Indiana University July 19th 22nd 2024 so moved second so yeah youit wait till you get the right working with h director poik and uh Sarah Nolan we have an opport Unity best buddies is non non for-profit organization we have the opportunity of sending two individuals down to the
conference at the University of Indiana to uh learn all there is about best buddies and hopes to bring that back and now hopefully help out our current high school program that we have at our high school working with that group of individuals with special needs and what is best buddies um best buddies pairs our students which I would say most at risk in our I would say Mid Valley classroom step classroom things like that that then work with high school students throughout the year each month they usually do something from a from a cookout or you know they I think they actually parlay that into some special Olympic type stuff through track with Mid Valley this year and things of that nature but it's an opportunity to kind of blend those programs and give those
kids an opportunity and it's in Bloomington Indian not Indianapolis yeah yes ful yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes Gorman yes motion is carried motion second a requir to discuss and approve the contract with the Q Center to host prom in April second all right I know it's uh 2026 is a ways away but it seems like it'll be here before you know it uh with our growing enrollment and the limit the size limitations of some places that we have uh the Q Center we're trying to secure that at least two years out so we can plan and prep as this service industry continues to grow uh when you look at comparable schools to our area St Charles bavia the Q Center offers that space that we need and unfortunately we're kind of at the
will of these venues when it comes to prom so looking forward to get approval on this to to uh solidify for 2026 so we can kind of get a two-year cycle for planning and and prepping and letting people know ahead of time what to expect are we at the Q Center for 2025 20125 we're back at Pinstripes um so when I took over they were doing once a year and you know with all the changes and everything trying to find those venues year to year when they're usually booked out two years in advance made it extremely difficult we're thankful for Pinstripes uh but I also know as we grow we had 500 plus kids and um for those who were there it was a great time but it's getting kind of close to capacity there
so uh the Q Center offers a little more room for our for for our size as we continue growth what's the cost of difference per student from say pin stripes to the Q Center so right now this year we were around about $120 a kid per ticket um if we look at the pricing let alone right there that'd be $96 per student but that's without transportation DJ and other things so um if you put in in context I know I reached out to like matavia matavia paid I think right around 57,000 for 700 kids um so again we probably looking right around that same price range you know obviously it depends on what the DJ contract looks like and and things like that but we'd probably be right around that 120 Mark again for our
students to make sure we e North I think we're closer to 150 this year too and one was at the Q Center and one was in Oak Brook I know that's where there twoes were um bav again they they were right around 120 and then as they get closer they bump it up to 130 uh we did some other comparables like weat and warville not this is the model because it cause a lot of stress but they sell their tickets for like two weeks at 95 bucks and if you don't buy them in two weeks then you're kind of out of luck and I know that's not fair to every family that can can't afford that but um in terms of the Fox Valley Conference we're kind of in that mode as well but outside
of Huntley we're there's really nobody else that's our size when you look at some of these other schools within our conference so last three or four years actually should DJ next one yeah doesn't work out de can grab her iPhone and Ox do it save you some money that's crazy wow I can spin records yes Hil yes Nolan yes pepis yes vote Yes Gorman yes motion is cured all thank thank you thank you motion second to discuss and approve the contract oh sorry um the adoption of textbooks for math one two and three so moved second okay sorry so these textbooks have been on display uh you can remember we had to wait one additional meeting because of the days between the original date that this was put on and now so this wasn't last
month but the previous meeting is when we put them on public display they've been on display since that time so this is our math one math 2 math three to support our integrated math this will complete the series of textbooks needed for technically all of our math courses with the exception of transitional math which doesn't have a textbook because it is uh regulated by ECC and that is the accepted process for for transitional math but on these three textbooks um the information been provided on our finances for the student materials for six years that will be the digital copies and a textbook set within each of those classrooms it will cover both CMS and CHS because CMS remember we start our math one course so there will be classroom set there as well so that's
uh something to take a notation on for integrated math one uh and then you've got your bundles for integrated math 2 and three and this is all on a six-year agreement I forget the people we talked about this before when was the last time we changed this curriculum like this we had to redone textbook set digital or otherwise there has been a long time because and was here we couldn't find one they liked algebra so it's been a while since we've up pivoting poll one two three basically they developed their own curriculum okay questions for St right I'm sorry do we get a motion in a second move second Fulk yes mfil yes Nolan yes papis yes vot yes Gorman yes motion is carried thank you thank you um next we motion second to discuss
approve the bids leas the 47 property for the purpose of farming so move second um included in your board packet is the um memo for the approval of the cash Farm leas um four bids were received one came in under our minimum bid um three of the other ones were were came in more than either at or above our our set price um the highest bid came in at $451 an acre um from the in um you have the prices of what the other four people had um bid on their sheets and so we're basically questions off Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes V yes vulk yes Gorman yes motion is carried next your motion second to discuss and approve um gosh can't see approve the FFA rental of Route 47 property so Mo second
so if you recall we brought forward that FFA alumni has always uh utilized some property along kind of in conjunction with the Meer property when we sold the Meer property that was gone uh FFA uses this especially the Alumni Association as part of their organization to help fund scholarships do some great things for kids uh so we are recomending that we take it's 26 to 28 Acres of the current property that we have um in the new MOS property on about 47 uh for the purpose of FFA so that we can give them additional um agan to be able to get some additional dollars to be able to pay for some of those things that our students are are doing as well as it'll give us some opportunity to do other things for FFA on
that property um we will work on putting together an agreement uh with our legal team and the FFA Alumni Association to kind of delineate some of the elements that they should be taking care of expectations we'll work with that organization to come up with the plan um as we work through this process with Mr Robinson to figure out what's best in terms of the district and for them like pre-approving the further discussion you're you're approving the 28 Acres so I can move forward the agreement okay yeah so 26 to 28 acres is the approval and then I'll move forward an agreement the board does say 15 to 20 by the way yeah you 26 to 28 Nolan yes papus yes vot yes vul yes Hil yes Gorman yes motion is carried any motion second to
uh to discuss and approve the paper bid for the 2024 to 2025 school year second also included in board packet is um copy paper bid and the recap we had people fire submit um or no we sent out 12 we got six of them back we've got some new people on here that would have never been so that was exciting um some of our original or the ones that always bid didn't so that was kind of interesting but um contract paper group came in with the lowest responsible bid um for $62,900 so we're recommending that we accept that there have we used them before yes okay and they can get all the product and they yes to get all the product all right papus yes vot yes Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes Gorman yes
motion is carried next motion and second are needed to discuss and approve the joint agreement with the Northern Illinois independent purchasing Cooperative so moved second so included in board packet is um contract for the Northern Illinois independent purchasing Co-op um it's our food service one we've used for my whole lifetime here so it's probably about 10 years 85 years they only started in 1995 so that can't be true um so we're just basically recommending that we continue to to be a member of this Co-op um they assist with all of the bidding which is a huge huge job um and then we can pull our um resources together to be able to get better bids for costs all right vote Yes hul Yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes Gorman yes motion is carried we
need a motion in second to discuss and approve uh Grant director Engel as the board certified delegated authority so moved second this an annual agreement or an annual renewal to um basically appoint Grady to be able to be the board certified delegate Authority um on the grant says he's writing them there's a little check box that either the superintendent can do it or this board certified so Grady Angel would be the one to do all of these ones for Central Paul yes Hil yes Nolan yes peus yes vote Yes Forman yes motion is carried now need a motion and second to discuss and improved business manager flute and EF Director stro as the board certified delegated authorities for the northern cane Regional Vocational system so moved second same memo as centrals just Northern um I
usually do the or risk assessment and right yes Tempo yes Nolan yes papis yes V yes Gorman yes yes motion is carried I motion second to discuss and approve the authorization to execute a one-time adjustment to the Natural Gas procument rate if favorable second greetings something different this time nice that was nice um so uh we've worked we've talked about this in the past we've uh kind of came up with and working with Dana this opportunity to bid out our um utilities so Gas and Electric we found out the last time we did this that it was a a great option it offered us some opportunities to save money and get us the POS best possible long-term cost locked in cost um so as you could see in the board memo we were had very
low per THM rates on our gas service three years ago when we signed this original agreement and we cost avoided over $400,000 in that period perod of time which could have been even substantially more than that based on um our some of the opportunities our vendor said with the the Peaks we had during those cold snaps and stuff there was districts that were who was cos them tens of thousands of dollars a month in gas service um we're slightly higher at this time in that 40 cents to 45 cents if we go with the longer term contract which is what we're recommending um locking in those rates for a longer period of time just gives us some consistency being able to to monitor budgets and manage those those things better those rates are still very
competitive but we're also asking for the opportunity with gas service when we're bidding these our vendor is bidding those out the day of so we want to have the flexibility that at this current rate which shows here is what our current bid is so we wouldn't be any more than that but there is an opportunity that when we do actually sign on the dotted line when our service is up that it could be cheaper so it's kind of a two-fold conversation that we want the approval to go with this bid as the as um shown but also the opportunity if somebody did come in less that we could authorize that that agreement current contract expires ju correct our fiscal year correct so we go out four years from that if you want three or four
years I we talked about three yeah three or four years we would at that longterm option do we have the same terms on the existing it would it would be the same terms for the new agreement correct y but we had it currently correct okay we did not execute a one time adjustment last time right it was the recommendation of the agency that were're working with to go out one more time to do with the mortgage and watch the rates we can get a r it at that point in time so the one time allows us to do that last time we did not do that but it was a recommendation that came through them to do that just in case just in case good smart Hil yes Nolan yes papus yes vot yes Fulk
yes bman yes motion is carried we move on information items start okay Sor start with the facilities upd all right now I'm back um so I'll start my update with our current permitted our current projects that we're working on um the high school addition project that's kind of the the big one that's out there right now um things are moving along there a critical piece of that project that we're looking to wrap up in the next week or so is the roof getting that roof on is going to kind of get us watertight to be able to start some of those interior things so that that's moving right along um aluminum frames and glazing are going in currently along with the masonry kind of getting along that North elevation kind of coming around the west
and starting on the south so things are moving along with those um we are encountering some issues that could possibly delay the opening till after the start of school um some of our vendors are we're having some issues with Supply chains again some of our electrical components hpac components um the our mill work Furniture things like that could possibly put a delay on that um so we're keeping an eye on that and communicating that and and keeping on top of it um the um generator projects our other project that's out there now our other permanent project um we're looking at uh for the maintenance Transportation building in Lily Lake doing the startup on those generators in the next couple weeks um then prair R viw and hbt the electrician currently working on wrapping those up
hopes to have those wrapped up in the next couple weeks and then we'll look at getting those um started up and once those startups are done we should have you know everything rolling for the start of school so that should be that should be a good deal uh kind of going to summer um we're work currently working on um some bid package for parking lot improvements looking at parking lot improvements at Prairie noes and then looking at asphalt improvements on the playgrounds at three of the elementary schools we did Country Trails when we did that renovation so we'd be looking at Prairie View hbt in Lily Lake um so that that those projects are going to be going out to bids so we'll bringing those to the board hopefully next month if everything goes well
um ly Lake we're looking at a lot of Tuck pointing and caul work um obviously our oldest building tuck pointing and CA and things like that are just an ongoing maintenance thing so we try to keep up with those so we commit dollars to that you know every year um fencing in generators looking at painting projects things like that we're working we've been working with Dana and Dr mongan on putting those plans together to kind of get some facelifts to the the front entryways of our buildings and try to make sure we're keeping up with those things so that's going to kind of be the the summer of paint we're looking at and things like like that how much of a delay are you thinking as far as the high school and opening I I
would I don't know right now um we're hoping in the next every every month we kind of get better updates um it could possibly be all the way till um Christmas break yeah we're anticipating and what we've told High School to depend on not to depend on opening that way for the first semester we might be a open up in second semester okay so they're planning for no of that at this point in time and then for PK as the the roadway there when are we when are you looking to do the asph falling because I swear I almost lost a tire coming out of there so I that that would be probably late summer we're kind of going out to bed a little late on that so that probably would be something we would
be pushing right to the end of end of July into August probably at this point right before the start of school yep awesome the plan would be to have it for the start of school yes it's going to say driver error I'm surprised I don't think so I swear I was like was that I mean jeez you said fencing in generators yeah so all the all the generators the other generators we have in the district we try to fence those in just for Safety and Security and to keep kid kids away so that would be that would be a project that we'd be doing to fence those in Lily Lakes um we were talking to Erica about trying to make that fence look nice out there so we kind of decorate it and then put
some ballards out there just to protect that whole area but when we looked at it with our contractor we'll still have plenty of room for buses and egress out of that parking lot putting that fence fencing and CT's fencing we're still looking at too right yeah so yeah that's the other fencing we're looking at so with the development of Country Trails if you've been out that way the houses are they're coming and they're right on our right on our border so we're going to be working with the homeowners association to see what options there are for us to put a fence along that playground area and along our property line just to kind of protect the kids from balls and stuff during recess and all that entering into those those home sites makes sense what's
the like span of a playground I mean I know asphalt's an ongoing thing I've driven plenty of parking aspht yeah you think the playgrounds should be a higher priority than parking we can dodge potholes with kids you don't want them so so the the issues that we've run into in the past is most of our our playgrounds are not designed for vehicle traffic so and in the past because of constraints and parking issues we've had to use them for parking so those kind of degraded them a lot quicker we try to do crack filling seal coating doing things that we could do to kind of get the longevity on those but when you when you run a car on something that has you know just three inches of binder and surface it's just not designed
for that traffic dig it all up and go Lake we are looking to do that because of the limited parking so he is going out for a a bit Yeah so we know Lily Lake there there's really not a lot of options there so that one will continue to be used for parking so we'll look at doing something with more Stone and adding an extra lift or two on that to make sure we could still Park on that one but we're not going to be parking on hbt and Prairie views playgrounds any longer and we shouldn't have to with the with the parking lot space we've put on right than you anything else thank you all right next we have a recommendation for adoption of biology textbook just the first one please this is next
uh so not this year but the previous year we started a review process of our science textbooks some of them based off the fact of uh one major missing component and that is ngss our next Generation science standards uh on our current Tech book just to give you some age on those they are not included in it so that right away gave us a little uh indicator that we needed to start the review process and we had uh several teachers come together to review biology uh chemistry uh and some of the other areas and so the top first two books that today I'm going to talk about is biology and chemistry so the first one biology uh this book is to service both our biology and honors biology courses so that it is not a
two separate situation textbook scenario the influx from biology to honors uh would create a a financial burden where we would not be able to predict it so our teachers were able to find a textbook that not only aligns across both curricular areas but is up to-date uh has the Online requirements and then it has additional uh videos and demonstrations that uh provide not only safety but kind of a more informative approach to break down some of the what they described uh lab activities that could occur and kind of a slower paced video format to be able to up uh increase our our understanding for our students some of those uh science labs might be more of a quicker scenario where a student doesn't have the capacity to visually see some things that occur so that
was one of the highlights uh within that the other one uh that they uh really liked was the questioning that was built into these textbooks so uh the depth of knowledge uh that we use and the ability for teachers to adapt these uh for biology specifically was seen as a great benefit trying to think what else that um and then they just highlighted that the interactive uh digital portal that comes along with this Biology book uh was better than the other choices that were selected and just for reference we review three textbooks minimally sometimes we do more but minimally we do three so uh our last textbook uh was a savis product I believe it was Pearson at the time that's now savis but uh this book is an hmh product uh we use hmh
in other areas of our K2 system so if they're a a reput vendor and it is a really good book that the teachers are excited about if we buy I mean this is copyright 20 18 M this is an old textbook s that's the most current well I don't doubt that it is but that's still an old textbook for science so if there are updates to the digital textbook I'm assuming we get that included in our six years yeah the digital happens on the the yearly basis so like a six-year contract for that um we'll start with the original and it's based off the 2018 original paper textbook but that does not stop the digital side from being updated on a regular basis and this would go into practice for 2024 this fall yep so
this will have to go on display these you know this one and the next one I'm going to talk about for 30 days and I will come back for approval later for the purchase but the anticipated goal is for us to purchase this book to put in practice for the next school year 2425 academic calendar got it so's a quick way to explain the ngss standards how they Chang uh say that one more time is there a quick way to explain the new standards I guess well they I don't want to call them new because they've been around for quite a while um so I don't actually know the date they came in 201 14 somewhere so um it it was an Al a massive alignment that occurred kind of Across the Nation on NextGen
science standards that or Incorporated more what I would call tactile Hands-On engaged labs to better enhance the Practical knowledge in a tactile sense and it really engage the learner differently than maybe traditional past practice of a sit and get lecture-based absorption but also while embedding some of the other stem principles and uh larger Global sense that had to come into it for the full explanation and of it being very specific to science only it brings in more when it's when those were adopted in the year that it was we've been teaching them we've been teaching we've been teaching them and and that's the fact of like how old our previous textbooks are they're actually from the early 2000s and so this update is uh merited and we do need to keep reviewing our other curriculums
as well to make sure we update those in the future okay questions about biology no so the next book coming around is our chemistry uh textbook again this is textbook has been selected on the same premise of it has the capacity to uh serve its purpose for both honors and regular chemistry it is a different product this is McGraw Hill uh it was selected as the Top Choice it's Inspire science chemistry uh the uh alignment with the scope and sequence of our current curriculum was seen as a benefit uh got to give credit to uh Jennifer Santiago and Terry Angel who took a lot of time to review this textbook uh and some of the other ones and finding this one as what they consider the most student friendly online practice uh online animation and
interactive activities uh to help with visuals as well uh and then the expanded curricular resources that teachers will have access to on the digital side to be able to enhance what we are doing in our classroom uh again this one does include the nextg uh standards um and we'll be able to apply a little bit more performance-based expectations uh in line with what we are currently doing so very similar to biology differences were now a chemistry side and again lab wise a chemistry reaction if you can think about it goes very quickly so that enhanced digital side that is students are going to have access to and again all students will have the digital side we will be recommending a purchase of textbooks still in the classroom itself uh for the chemistry Department did mcra
Hill have a Biology book because I noticed at Eric's point this one's 2020 for the chemistry do they have a they they do and they it was part of the revieww process but but the alignment to the book that was selected by the teachers uh was seen as a better product than what the mcra hill product was for biology for biology to answer the question why it's mcra Hill for this one versus hmh for the other one great the biology one does I'd have to double check one of them and I don't want to misquote which one has the capacity and I don't know if that's McGraw Hill or hmh and that has the online just like the other biology any other questions NOP thank you than the next item is the recommendation for school
lunch fees for 24 to 25 oh Jess is here see good evening you didn't talk with the last one I missed you somewhere back yeah hiding um in the board packet we have the recommendation to increase the schol lunch prices by 20 cents for each level however we are going to leave the MK prices at 40 cents um we haven't increased the prices since 2020 and 2021 school year you want talk a little bit about what you find out from state was the state person or who you guys speak with the uh ISB recommends that we increase 10 cents every year so we're a little bit behind on that with not increasing for three years um this will help balance it out the they have a calculation which is the paid lunch Equity it's called
a PL um calculator that you have to fill out there is um like four different steps involved in that and we came to the middle of the road to make it more affordable for our families our our costs on par of the other districts and what they charge for where kind of balanced out yeah okay it's hard to compare 100% stles some people contract out oh we don't contct is all in house okay so recommendation obviously we didn't need to go with because we weren't losing I guess the past three years we I think we chose not to because of Co um and transitioning from I mean I was filling in P for half a year um the pl calculator is something there's different there's a weighted average in a couple other areas um and
you can apply for a waiver if you were making money and the reason that we had a positive fund balance was because of our supply chain assistant grant that they gave us so they gave us for the fresh fruit um we applied for all three of those every year we've been bringing those to the board um there might be a fourth round coming but we're not confident in it um so that is the only reason we had the positive fund balance because we were using those funds up in across the year so at the end of the year you might had a positive but it really TR wasn't a true correct yes so we chose not to and then come to find out when we were talking to the state nutrition Mr gogerty um he
basically said that 10 cents is the minimum every year and we haven't and we you know maybe it should be close to 385 and we're like not going that far so we kind of did some analysis and met at the7 any other questions regarding lunch no than thank you thank you move on to uh approving the addendum to deposit account um including your board packet is an addendum for the deposit account so we currently we have a deposit account agreement of disclosure with Old Second Bank um and just in reviewing some of the language in there um in our annual reviews kind of as a formality we um we've been following the collateralization and the Illinois public fund deposit act stuff but we didn't really have it 100% in writing so we just wanted to
put the clarifying language in there that this is what they're following anyway but at least then we have it in writing to confirm that they are truly going to provide by that good right thanks D any questions on the enrollment report no right next up our foyes so we've been very busy with uh foyes this this month um Miss Tesa received a request for records meaning emails text messages voicemail messages phone laws and post session minutes uh related to the purchase of the last property were able to comply with that portional request denied a part due to it being unduly burdensome some of the stuff like emails texts all those things that you just could find and have access to miss Walch received the request for tle one District plan incling details of any parental
advisory committee uh we were able to comply with that request uh Mr Powers we received request for information about construction and our maintenance work planned for this year including names of contracts that have already been awarded uh we were able to comply with that request Mr dogen we received a request for construction drawings for the current Central High School addition construction schedule and change Edition uh we were able to comply with this request but we did require that would have to come inside the school system to se the printouts because it was architectural and we did not want to provide that um access so I think he chose not to to come to school uh Miss H we received a request for information about District employees and transportation positions any contracts between district and a
private company providing Staffing for District transportation we able to comply with that request and Mr J we receive a request for information regarding the 2324 District budget act forend chairs and total reserves would comply to that request those are the bo that we have for this month any questions on the bo no all right concludes tonight's meeting motion second to adjourn Open Session and move to close session with the following exceptions 2c1 2c2 2 C10 and 2 c21 so move second Nolan yes yes papus yes V yes Fulk yes Hil yes Gman yes motion is carried thank you again for coming up
