e for e to call tonight's meeting to order Mandy can you take roll call aif Fulk present Hil here Nolan y papis here vote here Gorman here you need a motion in second to approve tonight's agenda so moved second buul yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes vote Yes Gorman yes motion is carried uh please join us in reciting the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the for stands na indivisible andice good to thank everyone who came out tonight Administration community members and everybody watching at home um Dr mang yes thank you to everybody came out I was trying to look for CA and there she is hidden in the corner so thank you for coming out I'm like where is she did you see me kind
looking um thank you to everybody um at home checking in as well and for the visitors coming out this evening so thank you going to move on to public comment we have a few tonight uh Mike Meyer is that thing can't tell green light green light means go roll my comments are brief uh need better transparency please a reading hearing from the uh land sale land acquisition from last month I'd like to read the logic about what in went into the sale what went into the purchase a different topic uh the $195 million referendum does anyone know that it's out of limits per state statute I was thinking somebody in the crew here might know this it's a topic that's beyond my Ken I'm not very good at legislation or accounting but we are uh
out of limits asking for that statute anyway transparency please thank you right Jean Meyer's next Jean Meyer resident Christian if a public speaker repeats what I'm saying it needs doing so please reiterate what I say it seems this school board is not running this school district who is my husband and I have not missed a single school board meeting in 14 months and yet never heard that the amount of debt a school district can hold by State Statute is 13.8% of the equalized assess valuation of a district which makes District 301's statutory debt limit 96 million this is more than this is 100 million more you're asking for with the $195 million referendum apparently the focus group concluding that we needed a new high school were never apprised of this statute either either now to
bypass this state limit debt limit rep representative Kiker of Decalb has sponsored Bill 4254 and filed this request on 12423 the school board has not discussed this bill either and neither this overriding of the debt ceiling with HB 4254 or the fact that this state debt ceiling exists to protect we the people who own this school district and that it has been hidden from the full board and taxpayers is an atrocity and it makes my blood boil as a nurse healthc Care Professionals often need to give full informed consent for instance negative outcomes possible from surgery voters are voting without being fully informed information has been withheld from them the elected Board needs to be making the decision it needs to be discussed and made public transparency I have discussed at length this morning this
situation with my state representative ugasi and Senator dwit their staff members also with the bill sponsor representative Kiker staff emailing them facts not conjecture and I've also filed witness slips provided by the state of Illinois on this bill to oppose it I am requesting that anyone on this board or on this school administration immediately take blame for the subterfuge if you knew about it maybe you guys didn't know we all sin and fall short of God's glory but each one of us must admit when we're wrong and make it right transparencies to the taxpayers from this second forward we need a whistleblower or several of these board members who represent we the people to blow this situation wide open that the board was not made aware of this so it could be open to discussion
I am not part of building a better District but I am amazed at their intelligence and their Superior ability to communicate fact I do wish to stand next to them and accept the lashing they receive for actually trying to build a better District to educate our children this nation's most valuable resource educating in academics not indoctrination thank you thank you all right Virginia Romano hi Virginia Romano um yeah I'm a d301 taxpayer um and what jean had to say uh I could say ditto to and so no need repeating um there's really nothing more I can say in regards to the referendum everyone here probably knows all the banter that's been going on so um don't need to regurgitate it um and so the one thing was that it required amend an amendment to a
statute to an Illinois statute um that raises our debt ceiling that protects the taxpayers it's meant it's there as a safeguard and for it to be ignored I guess I just because I think in a way I feel like people want what they want and I really don't I don't even expect to be really um heard because I kind of got that impression the first night I did speak here that it was falling on things were falling on deaf ears so I guess we'll find out tomorrow what the outcome is and um but also the more layers of the onion being peeled back is quite revealing and we see you and thanks a lot have a nice night thank you you too we move on to action reports we need a motion second to discuss
and approve the consent agenda so moved second um included in your board packet you have the revenue expenditure reports revenues are currently at 46 6.15% compared to 4335 a year ago expenditures are at 5956 per compared to 5213 um percent a year ago uh we did not receive any impact fees or transition fees since last board meeting the bills payable for both Northern cane and Central are typical for the month of March and then we also had the State Board of Education and the school nutrition program come and do an audit um Prairie View and Prairie NOS were the two schools that they audited for meal compliance and accountability there were some few minor findings that we've already corrected and then um they did a resource management review which is kind of of the financials
and the reporting and the claim reporting that we do and um we were in compliance there there was no errors there so they typically come out every three to five years so we were due um they didn't come out three years ago so um we knew we were going to be on the list so questions for d what are the examples of the discrepancies um I know you're going to ask that I don't even know if I even brought that I think some of it was um how we were reporting like offer versus serve um some of the stuff how you um at the middle school mainly PK um prayview was actually pretty clean but PK had some um if they just wanted a salad it's it's an alart but the kids don't weren't even
getting like the choices Ju Just salad because it was only meals only so it was just kind of explaining the terms of offer versus serve was one of the biggest ones okay um nutrition Wellness committee oh and the Wellness Plan that was the other thing we have to get a Wellness Plan updated the last one we did was in 2015 um so we need to put together some a new plan and bring It Forward for you guys to review so that's due by June so yep all right Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes vote Yes Gorman yes motion is carried next we need a motion second to discuss and approve the resolution for dismissal of part-time teachers so second so Dr Hog's here to kind of walk you through what that means good
evening everyone uh this is a resolution for the dismissal of part-time teachers so this is annual process that we come to you each year um at this time whereby we release our part-time employees um these part-time teachers do have recall rights once we know what our sections are for the upcoming year uh we have opens openings and these part-time teachers will receive written notification of uh this release um after board action takes place questions good thank you okay right maybe held yes Nolan yes pepis yes vote Yes ful yes Gorman yes motion is carried next we need a motion second to discuss and approve the girls wrestling teams overnight trip to the ihsa state competition in Bloomington Illinois that occurred February 22nd to 24th 2024 so moved second so Ted's here he's got quite a
few he's probably going to stand there for a little while next Dan do you want do you want to stand next to him last time I was they were in the process of going down there that following weekend uh we did have two girls qualified for State both came back with uh a fifth place fifth place finish uh Victoria msas and Ryan Miller were our two uh athletes that went down and place down there at States so grateful for the opportunity and it was fun to watch them compete and represent Central did a great job Nolan yes papis yes vot yes Fulk yes pil yes Gorman yes motion is carried need a motion in second required to discuss and approve the math team's overnight trip to the ictm state math contest at en State University
on April 5th and 6th of this year so moved second so two weekends ago our math team went to section is qualified for State down at Illinois State University April 5th and 6th um uh coach Kowalski does a great job math teacher and uh sponsor does a great job with that group and they've seen a lot of success at least the past two years that this the second year that I've had him with but uh she does a great job and uh like I said they they went last year and looking to kind of improve on on some of the uh places they can for uh this upcoming trip and uh the first weekend in April papis yes vote Yes Faulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes Gorman yes motion is carried Motion in second to
discuss and approve the German American partnership program trip scheduled for June 11th 13th I'm sorry to 28th 2025 so moved second yeah so uh last meeting we kind of gave you the information and fra Bliss provided some additional information I've been brushing up on that journal a little bit um so just looking for the approval to uh be able to move forward with that with some planning and finalizing a few more of the details I think in that in the memo as well as the payment for both uh sponsor and co-sponsor to go on the trip as discussed last month vote Yes I'm sorry it's Fulk yes pil yes Nolan yes pepis yes Gorman yes motion is carried Qui just this doesn't have any bearing on whether I approved it or not how many how
many how many people have expressed interest thus far I mean now we're approving it do you already talk about that with kiddos until something just want to make sure okay students okay yeah understandable I need a motion in second to discuss and approve the anonymous donation to the cheer team's activity account so moved second um the cheer activity account received an anonymous donation of 4200 bucks um cheer supplies um yearend Awards and services are what it's going to be used for anything that's related for the students in the cheer account nice that's awesome and this is standard for any donation over 500 if they specify yes and if they specify what they want to for we definitely the board so aware of it because it's very targeted in that budget line and we cannot be
touched ex is that the cheer coach that would be responsible for making sure that that is going where supposing or is that ultimately it's timately on Ted works with the spot and Tad do you know what it would go towards do are there certain needs or yes there's always needs when it you know cheer and cheer and dance although are unique their own right with choreography you know the the uniforms everything else that they get that make up um the gear that goes with it those of you that have you know students that are involved in that you've kind of lived it firsthand but yeah we will uh work with Coach mariac to make sure that that gets distributed properly back to the kids and things that would benefit and continue to benefit the program
for years to come all right ful yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes vote Yes Gorman yes motion is carried a motion and second required to discuss and approve the ihsa membership renewal for the 2024 to 2025 school year so moved second we would like to continue to offer our opportunities to uh to our student athletes to participate in ihsa contest things like about State wrestling State everything that comes in into it is being part of that membership so we would like to continue that next year know what the membership fee is or is there one during Co they had one now they I don't believe there's a membership fee involved now it's just a continual renewal year after year and that we abide by their bylaws and proposals when it comes to things for
eligibility and everything else if we host posties and stuff they want their money yes yeah remissions yeah so we asked basketball sectionals what was that last year they get a nice portion of that right okay all right vul yes pil yes Nolan yes papis yes vot yes Gorman yes motion is carried sorry get out of here thank you thanks all right New Motion second uh to discuss and approve the Fox Valley Career Center joint agreement for the 2024 to 2025 school year so moved second so I'm just here to make sure that we have communication on uh the Fox Valley Career Center we would like to continue our kind of partnership that we have with them it provides more opportunities for our students across the board specifically and career dedicated aspirations so we want to
make sure that those students that uh we currently cannot service in-house due to our space constraints of labs and stuff that our building does not not have we're able to open the doors up to those uh not only the sections but the spaces that our students would not have the capacity to do um those would include um if you aren't aware of Fox Valley Center everything from Auto to trades to um welding they have some it uh medical I mean it's it's it's a true uh career center and so we're happy that we're able to find uh the second part which is seats available you know we're all a part of the uh Regional pathway it does not take away this is all about providing the opportunity for students in another way in another capacity
opening that door so this way if we have students that for example uh welding we can't find a seat in uh District 300 that's a different location we can send our our children to in our uh region to be able to go and still get the same educational goals that they would like versus not having that opportunity so um this is just for asking for the approval to continue down that pathway and have that and allow our students to go there any questions this did not lapse at any point correct uh this year we did not have any students go but we were still part of it not a voting member yes there were no students that had gone to the program we do have students this year that are interested in attending next year
yeah great great thank Ste M yes Nolan yes papis yes vote Yes yes Gorman yes motion is carried we move on to information items first up director is here with the facilities update as usual I get one uped with foreign language now great so thank you again as usual give you my uh update uh first thing is the um addition project um that's going really well knock on wood weather's been very Cooperative um hopefully we'll have steel and roof on by the end of March beginning of April um still we're at 22 day total days lost um because of the weather earlier in the winter and a rain day that we had um we should be able to pick those days up as we start the interior finishes so there won't be any issue with
getting things done in a timely manner when we start on the interior um the other project that we have out there and we're working will be working on shortly is the pl Road widening project um that we're currently working um with Kane County they're going to partner with us to cover some of the expense of that so we're working on theou with them to get that finalized um so we can keep that partnership going because obviously we're going to need that partnership moving forward so for a lot of the other endeavors will'll be we be taking on would that just be after our last day of school ideally if we can start earlier just because we have a lot of road work to do on the roadway that we can access through the parking lot
we may the cont and getting in and getting it done quick and then they got a lot of other projects for the rest of the winter so we may start some of the road edge of the road work but the road won't be tore up until after school's out for sure yep um the other project that we have out there is the generator project um for Lily Lake Howard B Thomas prair r view and then the transportation and maintenance building we have received all of the equipment so we have all the generators on site um transfer switches all all of the parks um so Lake will be the first one to go we're going to start that one the interior work over spring break um we'll be pouring all the generator pads and those locations
over spring break also trying to get all that work done so it's not impacting school and access to anywhere we're going to put some construction fence up around the locations just to secure those spaces and if our contractor does want to work in boiler rooms and mechanical worms rooms towards the end of the summer they'll be able to do that and we'll have a safe place for them to work um the intended startup is is uh late June early July at this point based on schedule so then those generators and all that equipment will be up and functioning for the start of next school year which will be a great benefit for those power outages we incur often um that's it any questions thank you thanks Dan thanks thank you all right uh next curriculum
director books we'll provide uh some information regarding the math textbooks so as task to find a resource that supports our math one math 2 and math three curriculum in the high school School uh our math department both in the high school and the eighth grade team have to be given credit on reviewing uh I think we brought in five total resources narrowing it down to three and then uh doing a deep dive into those three resources to come to the conclusion that they are recommending the McGraw Hill reveal series which is those are the student books that are being provided which are the ones that will go on display um these books books uh uh would be a great resource that compl what we are currently doing but providing the uh examples the online resources
the um vocabulary uh a different level of inquiry online uh we would be purchasing a classroom set for each grade level meaning math one math two and math three plus an additional math one for CMS because math one is taught in both buildings just to make make sure that our students that need to have that tactile Hands-On version have access to that while every student is provided the digital access of the textbook using their Chromebooks which we provide um so the majority of our textbooks are that way but we also recognize the fact that we still need some tactile Hands-On books to meet some of the needs of our students so within the purchase price here you can see um the breakdown of the total cost the individual for one two three and uh the
only thing I could say that's a really nice positive which most textbooks I well many textbooks are starting to do on the online version when the students go in for example you can toggle into Spanish if a student had an had a a language that Spanish as their main emphasis they would be able to click and it will switch back to that it is a very nice feature to support an entire another population which is growing so that type of feature is really nice uh to be able to do that but one of the things that impressed me was if you're scan it through the the book itself you could see they now tag uh when those online lessons compliment to be able to encourage those students when they're confused to dig into those and
then the embedded vocabulary which many of our students need to work on you know bulking up the terminology to be able to be successful as they move forward it's not just about plugin and chugging through per se math questions it's about building up that core knowledge which does include vocabulary and this textbook series does a nice job on that um as well so have a question for this math the reveal math integrated one would that be that that would be the same as our math one which is that what eth graders would do if they were ahead one year yes it's integrated so we basically integrated mathematics algebra with geometry and then we did the same thing with al2 and geometry and it's pretty much a mix of some college algebra trig which is pulled
out eth grade for those kids that are in that otherwise it's the same SE just want to make sure yeah correct and since the core content is the same core mathematically for honors it's the book that also supports those Learners so this is all about all math students in one two and three for usally much more functional yeah just so that you're aware that's not like a book for math one only math one and math honors because the content the material is the same the depth they go is different if that makes sense so that we know one your transition gure everyone will jump in you're this so this would be proposed for moving forward starting this fall 245 yes okay we would be if of course this goes on display understand that because of
the timeline we will not be coming back to vote next month it'll be May because we have to have enough days so just that keep that in the back of your mind it's not it's just because of the number of days it has to be uh in review um and then we would get the resources for our teachers the teachers only first to be able to start utilizing and being able to embed the things they need to do so if they're prepared walking in for fall as students get access to these three textbooks so was math three College elry yeah okay so pre which is the orang version yeah so can you explain the difference between the two sections you have one that's 58 and 336 so you have different numbers I'm assuming some of
those are your on class set you've got 118 books is that a combination of all of your online like the 58 the 30 and the 30 you got the B andbook so the 58 is there are 58 physical books math one at CMS 28 get sent there 30 for the high school and then the 336 math one is the additional online licenses that we have to purchase with every single textbook so you actually have to add that together to get the number of online text or online licenses we get 58 plus 336 because with every textbook we purchase we're getting an online license but we don't want to purchase an additional amount of textbooks at the that price at that price when they're just going to sit in the storage room because our students aren't
carrying textbooks around you know they're carrying their electronic device that's why we have more Focus down to those classroom sets for the students that have that need uh and so the number would be the same for each level 30 uh for math 2 math 2 is only taught at the high school and then you've got 352 so you add those together you'll get your total number of electronic licenses uh and those licenses only this is a six-year quote so this would be the initial purchase would cover the numbers based off next year's student enrollment that is predicted now moving forward as enrollment numbers change we have to increase and utilize those numbers based off the need which we do every single year for all of our textbooks it's just part of the process we go
with the initial number first to do that initial purchase and then uh through the high school they're able to manage and be able to handle the specific needs from year to year after students sign up for classes and that happens every single year in in all the subjects not just particular math I think my question would be and I obviously this is great we're finally getting a textbook for for students that maybe don't have the foundation or maybe on a state level aren't where they should be look thinking about the high school distance specifically is there any type of resources we're thinking about rather it's something something over the summer or something after school like her students are just a little bit more challenged with this especially now that we're finally instituting something like this
have we thought about how to support those students that may not be performing where they need to be and just need a little bit more help well part of the way we do that is in the high school right now in AA um students are always welcome to work oneon-one with their teacher make arrangements with their staff to be able to get the the best quality instruction for help um summer wise we don't currently have a dedicated summer math program specific to math one math two math three um but we do our best to try to come up with Solutions as or problems solutions to problems as they come up to be able to reach out to those students and get them the support they do need we have summer school is sorry summer school
is about kids who are failing so trying to get credit recovery so some school is really about credit recovery make sure they can recover their credits uh the high school staff in have Rewritten the curriculum and thenum to make sure it aligns so students don't aren lost but that's not about just students getting additional assistance this time it's really a credit recovery section okay see well the extra video takeaway that is in the book that should also assist correct well the resource the online resource is completely above and beyond what we currently are offering um that is directly tied to the specific content in this book which now our teachers they've gone through and reviewed and this textbook was chosen because it aligns the best with ours so now they're able to identify you know
the activity that they're doing how it is connected here and then what that would point the students to go for more practice and those other uh problems that are online which could be both uh video discussions other examples on graphing um for example are with are in online but gives them a different approach than maybe than what was displayed in the classroom on that day to show us just a different approach those types of things so that is part of the online resource uh that is in all three levels and is that open at any time or is that something that maybe the the teacher has to push for that that 247 from the day they turn the license on when they enroll in the course till the end of the SE year that they're
done they have access to that it is not a locked or Andor like you must do a before you get to B before you get to C it's an open system it's not a an assigned situation of you're going in doing these sets of problems and then the next sets of problems that are connected to per se a video um it it's a complimentary resource on the specific topics within each leveles sense so all of our math classes now that we offer here have a textbook math one two and three yes I will say that this would be that but there are still classes that do not there's yeah I think there's at least two that don't right so just I can understand that to his point so if we look at 100% of the
students would you say that these three textbooks are hitting 75% of our students on a math basis or 50 or no at least 75% because these the first three levels I mean with the exception of the students who are eth graders taking it at at the high school level one two and three is their freshman sophomore and junior year of math everybody goes through that series to get to the next level so that is the majority by far a good number of seniors in that track who are not taking a fourth year of math so we actually have a lot of seniors that take a fourth year of math not necessarily pre-cal not required but other other other math versions besides pre-cal or is that the only four next after level three would that be
the only opt option for math it's pretty much preal it's about the only option or most of our seniors take kelp AB BC or kelp one so most of them are more advanced they're moving in they taking the fourth year Remember by state law does not require four years of math right right it's only requires three years of math and and we and we do have an another course transitional math for students who maybe are not ready to take that leap there's so that it's not just uh AP and and very advanced math we also have a course available to students that can be supported that way for ECC right yeah but to your point though they do have that fourth year math I guess there's not a textbook or anything for that do we
feel like they're ready I mean college readiness since even though we don't have that or um I mean I think this is going to help us move in the right direction and then as we continue to see how this resource plays out we might be able to come back and see what other needs especially you know really identifying what gaps exist and then how do address those gaps because everything is a stepping stone to get to the next and if we go ahead and move and buy another textbook that doesn't solve the problem that's maybe supposed to be happening on these three levels we're not actually solving the problem we need to make sure that we're doing the justice of teaching and instruction Within These levels so that we are preparing our kids at that
next level it just seems with all the textbook has to offer and all the online resources that we're purchasing to have those resources at the Cel level preal is no-brainer so I just don't understand where why we don't have that why we stopped it one two and three or why they never got it to be you know I don't know why we didn't get it but uh I am working within some budget constraints of you know we do have to stay fiscally responsible you can see this is a large sum of money that we're asking you to vote upon and take Serious um it doesn't stop us from moving forward to review other resources and be able to look into the other needs and the other courses in any way shape or form um yeah
I think we'd make room in our budget for texbooks I don't think we've ever denied that for our kids you know so I mean I understand budget but in the scheme of things this is one thing that we're going to just do so I think to your point though of holistically we could know what all four years would look like from a cost I mean it probably be easier like you said this is obviously what it is but I don't think if we were able to look at what that next level textbook would be would be an absorbent amount of money right I mean if we were to look at what pre-cal or whatever I didn't get that far calculus you know personally but you know what that you know textbook would look like it
you'd probably be look similar to your math three level financially in cost because students start to go in those different Cal pre-cal things so but then again then again we are buying valume so that also is assisting us on the fact we're buying Lots right so I don't want to mispe and say that oh I'm GNA get you some grandios quote that really isn't going to come true when we start allowing students those choices if that makes sense but I mean you could kind of theoretically look at some of the values that are placed here and go okay we're GNA have another expenditure I don't think that number scares I what happened no he said I don't think that number is scary I mean it's for the kids it's just a matter of finding something
exactly just finding the resource but this I I'll be honest this was a big task so the other side of this is um our teachers are doing this while they're teaching so a lot of uh credit needs to be given to the math department um and those teachers because we had more than a dozen teachers work on this we took it very serious and so there's only so much honest review uh that can happen while they're teaching so going back you know we can open that door again and ask uh moving forward but if we were to ask an entire department to review all textbooks at all levels that really is also another thing we have to remember what task we're asking our staff to do and I thought they did a a great job
in the collaboration and uh both in the building and then communicating with our eighth grade teachers and getting that input because that's a whole another level of challenge you know and it's great we're offering math one to eighth graders like we need to keep that up and and be able to move forward so um oh it's great to you decide on something as okay thank you any other questions great J thanks thank you next is our enrollment report which is included in our packet any questions on the all right next up our foyes uh so we had uh four foyes this month uh we had one from miss Warren where she was looking for the architectural and structural Roofing plans for the original Central High School uh building and then subsequent additions um in pulling
that third floor um we actually only had access to that in the initial building of 1991 which is directly outside the library there um and then there was the addition we're doing right now beond that there is no other options for third floors um and architecturally they're not sure if that structure could be handled but they also f that structurally you get to un out the building in order to construct uh the third floor uh but we did comply with that uh request the second one was by Miss Knox she was asking for the fire capacity in current arom in each school and that request was complied with giving it both the fire capacity and the enrollment for every building that we have the third one was Coca-Cola uh we received a request uh for
our current beverage agreement by them and we were able to comply with the cont contct that we have uh currently so they can see the contract for our sodas and then the last one was from lrs uh which basically just wanted to have some information regarding our contracts for crash and refu um and recycling contracts so we were able to give that response to that request as well right Motion in second to adjourn Open Session and move to close session for the following exceptions 2c1 2c2 2 C10 2c1 and 2 c21 it's all moved second Nolan yes papis yes vot yes Hulk yes Hil yes Gorman yes motion is carried
