or in addition on another side now we just heard from the speaker that the original high school now was planned that they could put on a second addition I don't know if that's true um also um this would allow for the continued use of the field house we had two speakers I think that mentioned that that's an expensive Fieldhouse let's use it um I spoke against the architectural plan for the new high school as well as the plans contained at least one large Bank of inclusive restrooms um who directed the architect to label those restrooms as such I want to ask that question again I don't think the architect came up with that on his own who directed the architect to add the inclusive restrooms I would like to know this is not the values

of this community and the School District employees and board need to be transp transparent about everything my computer does not allow me to read the details on those plans it's on the September um board meeting uh video or whatever um and if everybody else's computer does the same we are left in the dark as to what is said on those architectural plans we need to be able to know what's going on um while an absurd law passed the state of Illinois this year allowing public multi-stall bathrooms to be inclusive they allow it they do not mandate it so again the question is who is responsible for this inclusive restroom designation in the new high school plans if we do not protest against atrocities it implies consent I do not consent thank you so much we're

going to move on to actually items first motion and second required to discuss and approve the consent agenda some second revenue and expenditure reports are included in your board packet revenues are currently at 39.5 57% compared to 37.485215 a year ago um the district received impa fees for November in the amount of $153,700 28 for 16 new home starts um no transition fees came in the bills payable reports for both Central and Northern cane are typical for the month of December um in this month there there are two Bond payments and One debt certificate payment totaling 1.9 97 um to The Amalgamated Bank of Chicago um next after this um report we will discuss the tax levy um and then the final um information the USDA has authorized a third round of of the supply

chain assistant grants um we had we were successful of getting the first two we're going to apply for this third round um we will receive right now they're they're estimating $127,000 for $125 um and it's only going to be spent on um like unprocessed Foods so there's certain limitations of things we can use it on our Dairy and fresh fruit and stuff like that so um we're going to we're going to apply for this I just wanted to clar y something with Dana said a lot of stuff is said in these meetings and they go by pretty quick um she said we received x amount of dollars $153,000 for 16 home starts um we don't usually communicate with public comment or have a discussion with it but I did want to state that we have

never seen a drop in homes in our district people are fleeing Illinois with every reason to but our district they do not flee from so we still have to teach these kids and um with open arm arms and gladly so we will continue doing so and we will continue growing most likely um as we joke we don't have crystal balls but you know we have to house the kids so um so I just wanted to point that out just to clarify that we are definitely still growing second largest growing Nation or District in the state so um yeah that's it um all right Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes vote Yes Gorman yes motion's carried next we need a motion and second to discuss and improve the tax levy so moved second um

the board memo is included in your board packet we just had our public hearing right before this meeting um we heard our public comments um we reported out our fund balances and our cash balances um and then basically in your board packet is all the resolution olutions and the truth and Taxation certificates the tax levy sheets that will be signed after tonight's meeting um once this is approved and then we'll deliver them to the counties before the December 26 deadline any questions is there goingon to be a discussion about the tax levy if you'd like to yeah definitely well I understand inflation and taxes probably go up a little bit but are we running as lean as possible we made all Cuts where Cuts can be made we can always cut programs you can cut

academics you can cut Staffing probably not uh we have class siiz lists that come out with the contractual things requirements by law for IEP students so from the Staffing perspective no we're already short short Subs short drivers short lunch workers uh So currently if you look at our operational budget we're actually not even fulfilling the requirements what we need uh because you cannot find workers out there and so there's a lot of jobs that are still open in our district um so to me we run very lean we run way leaner than most districts if you look at our expenditures uh for student spending you'll see we ran very very lean I believe it's in our um our academic program tonight where you'll see how much we spend for academics versus our neighboring districts uh

we're well well underneath any of our neighboring districts in terms of our expenditures so I do not think we have anywhere to cut I think some of that uh some of the perspectives especially you know these are Mid Valley districts obviously for understandable reasons similar sized and you know ecademic focus and things like that so I think you know if we hear about you know Illinois spends XYZ you know you know what we spend is going to be different than you know District out in Galina and a district in Southern Illinois and so I think maybe looking at some of that comparison so we do have some frame of reference we've talked about that I've been five and a half years at this point on the board so certainly something that's talked about but especially

the context of everything that we're asking for right and saying that we need as a district and to your point I think having that comparison even a visual again if it is in today Sarah was not in your head I don't know if there's something about ours in here today it's in the academic stuff for our spending though not not relative to other districts it's also relevant though we Geneva bavia St Charles we have that in there K yeah the same districts we always compare ourselves to we continue to compare ourselves to to see where we're running yep other questions I think we approve the budget last month right correct so in order to meet the budget that's what she based the tax levy off is the budget we approved last oneth so um which

is a decrease it's a little late to go against the levy if we already passed the budget I think too so all right henil yes Nolan yes papis yes vote no Fulk yes Forman yes motion is carried now we need a motion and second to discuss and improve the overnight trip to the All State ilmea conference January 24th to the 27th of 2024 so moved second Mr padari is working his way up here to talk about the conference thank you I am here Mr JY could not be here tonight not feeling well so sent me to discuss this one and in front of you you should have the agenda for the ilaa All State future music educator seminar so for the end of January Mr Pedigo would like to bring one student and we would

congratulate Sabrina chernikov for being selected as the 20124 future music educator seminar representative from Central High School she'd be one of 55 students in the state to go down to Peoria and over the weekend of the 24th to the 27th attends various sessions um learning more about being an educator in the future of music education as well as seeing some of the Statewide uh Allstate Jazz and composition concerts as well any questions for mrki is this those two going on their own yes just the two people yep last year we had three I think so just based off the number of students that first St in the state make it so sounds good thank you thank you noan yes papis yes vote Yes Fulk yes Hil yes Gorman yes motion is carried the next we

need a motion second to discuss and approve the school calendar for the 2024 to 25 school year so moved second so last month we uh showed you both version one and version two of the 2425 calendar our recommendation was version two still continues to be version two uh we did take it into the what's up Wednesday conversation I heard from staff wasn't a whole lot out there a couple people you received an email from one of the staff members as well as I did so you saw her concerns and then there was just one teacher at the high school who was questioning finals beyond that no other major concerns there um um we did we do have the half days which are added in still you see there um the other big changes that we

did we moved the um we actually added a kindergarten day at the beginning of the year so kindergarten will start one day later we talked about that last month that we're going to talk to the kindergarten teachers after talking to them we felt that based on what they're required to do some of those materials they just needed that extra data work for service providers to be able to do some of the materials they need to do to get prepared so they'll start one day late on August 22nd as compared to 1st through 12th grade on August 21st and we removed the trimesters that we originally put for elementary um in talking to Leslie who does our Skyward uh student information system we just aren quite ready to make sure that we can adjust everything we

need to in the report cards report cards are still being worked on at the elementary school level to make sure they're all matching so we are keeping that and you'll see in the next calendar invite in the next theowing years uh for trimester we're going to pull that yet but we are going to pull it for next year uh so those two things have been one's been removed and kindergarten been added just for our kindergarten parents knowing that the anxiety that comes with kids starting kindergarten would the goal be then by the end of day six the 29th that we would that as close to as there like a final determination made by curriculum to say here is the date that final you know to the middle of the week might be a little more

challenging you know might just be different by by the end of Friday they'll know for sure oh there there their day that's off on the 30th right so okay they're off they'll be putting all together so they'll know when they come back so by that Monday okay Y which is after so it's Tuesday after Labor Day then that they would Tuesday be starting classes with their teacher right correct other questions maybe pepis yes vote Yes Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes Gorman yes motion is carried next motion is second to discuss and approve the school calendar for the school year 2025 to 26 so move second so on this calendar it's basically corresponding dates uh back and forth so it's corresponds to what it was what you just approved the only difference is we did

add the trimester um in there for our Elementary staff and hopes that we'll get those all the things we need to get done done um and then kindergarten still would start one day later just like it's anticipated for this school year for the same reasons but it is the later start as parents have requested I did have a couple people reach out we we said we can always change the calendar at any point up until the start of the school year even during the school year we've done that when we've had to for different reasons obviously Co related so I think just to be clear that if especially for our CA folks and our our staff obviously if something doesn't work out well we always have the flexibility so to re yeah to relook at

that all right vote Yes Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yep Forman yes motion is carried we're going to move on to information items um Mr Steve Nelson is here tonight to go over the high school design everybody give me a second to log everything on we go quickly as possible I can talk a little bit uh we've been working we had a recent steering committee meeting here a little over a week ago a couple of the board members were present for that we had an admin team meeting uh right prior to that as well there we go U working on the overall uh consensus plan that we had there we go so we're working through those right now honing in on allotment of space and location of programs and I was asked tonight

to bring some conceptual renderings both of the exterior and interior uh limited interior spaces uh constructing the Revit model for all this takes quite a bit of time so we're in the process of doing that so we kind of targeted the entry area here we go and uh some CTE spaces and the outside I can play this a couple of times we're kind of we also flipped the building based on the new site location so it's like a mirror image of the rendering you would have seen before um we had some different material selections on the outside we've started to hone in on what those might look like we're walking around the back of the building that's the the multi-story educational Tower in the center um theater was on the side we just went around

this is PE and Athletics on this side as well as um an athletic entrance this will take us right up and then drop us down into coming towards the front entry this would be the main entrance educational multistory on the left common area in the center these represent what the model is structured like right now U we're kind of looking at what the tones of the colors might be um these are not all wood panels these would be simulated wood panels um wood panels wouldn't be in the budget or as durable um here you're looking at different areas of that Commons area there are some little meeting room boxes on each end there's a large stair that takes you up to the second floor an open stair here uh those yellow boxes are where the

library is located um here we're panning from the large area into the private restroom area you can see those are individual stalls like rooms they are not bathroom stalls it's just like if you had a separate room for your toilet in your house each individual stall um this is in the atrium uh that's Atrium you'll see up there these are various CTE spaces around the perimeter and then here we pop up to the library we made that wall translucent so you can kind of see what's in that space but there's some meeting small meeting boxes there and then there's Windows to one corner uh library was some you know a little bit higher ceiling and some uh daylighting and and LED lighting um I couldn't get to time to talk to the librarian as to

what books to put on the Shelf but we'll get to that um at some point um but this is where where we're sitting right now and we're playing around with the with the plan a little bit I'll I'll play it all again one more time and continue talking um so here's theater uh athletic space on the left main entry and core here as we're coming around then Arts Music Theater on this end of the building uh this back end here is where you find Fine Arts and and band Coral rooms um and then PE lock rooms and stuff are going to be around the back side on the right here and the Fieldhouse is on um this corner main gym is in by those uh in closer to the academic building again still basically a

La Cross program we did have kind of orange shown on the outside here initially in in the concept we've moved that more to a wood tone panel it's a metal panel still um some will be insulated some will not and again that's Library up to the left as we kind of look around um to this direction main entrance there the entry is behind us so cafeteria is underneath that Library so we'd be kind of standing on the cafeteria would be behind us right now as far as the kitchen sery area just back where those stud students are where they be lined up for survery that area will seat up to 750 kids in that in that common area it's open on this end uh between that and the this Atrium space so we've shown various

seating in here that could be overflow for uh lunch periods as well as group seating we would anticipate some soft seating being in here too but we kind of popped in some of the things we've already modeled and then again we're back up in the library we're trying to pick tones that are both Central colors but also what we' call biophilic colors that there's a lot of schools uh that have moved more towards natural tone colors not so many primaries and brights and Neons um they're a little more agitating long term is what the studies are showing so more greens and Browns and blues and and muted tones instead of really bright neon type stuff so with that I'd be happy to answer any questions these are conceptual they will look somewhat different by the

time we get not only through uh to the building of course but uh right now schedule wise we'll be working from now until gosh I think when we enter February is through what we call Design development that's when we will be going through in more detail looking at Material selections both based on durability and budget um and we're already be already have decided mostly what structure we're looking at but the pricing we're looking at some options for a couple different pieces uh pre-cast versus steel in certain areas what's going to be less expensive or be able to be erected in a faster time frame that would save money as well so that's part of what shales mcnut their analysis will be doing um civil engineering and structure will be working more towards construction based drawing

so that you are prepared to hit the ground running should the referendum pass and we'll we'll continue our work uh as you go past that referendum date but we'll be doing design development through early March end of February and uh we we also had a recent round right before Thanksgiving I was for uh Department chairs again we Revisited with all the department chairs for all the spaces and have a pretty good feel on you know needs for materials and case work and space so that's what we're kind of trying to all hone in on right now and pull out down so these are conc ceptual but they are based on the actual model of the building and as we go through we'll refine that and these will become even a little more photorealistic than what

you see right now so questions from anybody I believe we should have separate male and female restrooms instead of the tell me what you want so the trend is the trend is uh private restrooms and they have lower discipline issues and I think legislation is also headed that direction so um it may not be mandated yet but I think their Dei is going to definitely end up in that direction so I'd hate to put a building up and three years later have to renovate all your restrooms but so one thing we had talked about in the in one of the meetings in the library was the fact that there were some white sheets on other districts that have done this and kind of the feedback so that would be good information for us to have

I think at this level um and asked that particular organization that we've partnered with to send that to me so hopefully we'll have that in the next week or so yeah they did they did write a national white paper on it so other questions right now I think to clarify too we talked about this in one of them too you know there are every restroom is not that right showing that mixture yes right but I mean in the I think was by the theater there was definitely you know gendered restrooms with some you know single single restrooms like we have in and out between and the academic core as well should go up the levels right now okay correct that's correct I have this on a jump drive for you use the largest file that's

the one I showed tonight there two smaller ones that tested other questions there's just a lot of Educators that had input on this to make sure that we did it right so it you know absolutely as you know 30 plus people on the steering committee right and our next steering committee meeting is I believe January 30th correct and our admin meeting is January 11th I believe so next go around and we'll keep moving forward uh just so you know relative to the site we're environmental is underway surveying a topo is underway we be should have that in our hands by the end of this week and so borings throughout for solicitation as well uh both for the site as well as the building footprint so we can get a makeup for bearing capacity as well

as site amenities so plus we have a meeting with Kan County we do on the eth sometime in the morning of the eth yes they'll let us know what time otherwise I think we're good thank you thanks very much of change like it's it's similar similar but it's a little tweaked update director PO is here again I get to follow another exciting presentation with my presentation so thank you Mandy happy to help um so the big project we got going obviously is the high school edition um we got all the concrete done weathers knock on wood cooperating very well now as you can see we're getting masonry up um the goal is to get that thing under roof as quick as possible so when the snow actually does fly because I'm sure it will um

we can keep working through the winter so we're pretty much right back on schedule with the weather that's cooperated and you know everything's going well there um we're working I've been working with Dr Mangin and Dana on uh capital projects and kind of putting that plan together updating our capital projects to make sure like I said last month to make sure we're addressing other building needs we're not singly focused we're making sure every building's getting what they need to make sure you know our our buildings are kept up with um over winter break we have a couple of just no major undertakings we're going to do a small remodeling project at Lily Lake um continue on with our district office renovation and have an electrical project going on at at the high school um generators

um generators we're still working on um bid docs and schedule um they pushed back all of the generators till February of 24 now except for Lily Lakes Lily Lakes will be receiving here soon um so we'll just store that on site but I think the way we're going to have to bid this project we're going to have to put it together as a whole so I'm still working with ches mcnut on if we if it's wise to break that out to try to get some of that done now or just kind of push it back so we're working through those details that's all I got any questions thank you thank you thanks our next curriculum director Shane Berk Stephen books is uh will present the student achievement data Steph's gonna get us connected here quickly

it's working a little SLO this evening St yeah it's cold it's cold that's it the first day of cold we've had in a while uh Stephen books and I are going to run through our district data this is our 2223 School data and achievement um before we go ahead and begin we're going to uh talk through our Summit of designation so these indicators were very similar to last year the numbers and where our um buildings fall those adjust based on the performance of the students that are in the buildings but these summited designations are exactly the same as they were last year noting in elementary 50% of our summited designation coming out of growth so heavy emphasis on how our students are growing over time in ela and math and then you'll see that heavy

emphasis also in the graduation rate that's coming alive in the uh the high school Range so calculation this is where schools had fallen out this past year all seven of our buildings have come out in that top tier either commendable or exemplary so the exemplary statuses for CMS and CT this following year those are um 10 top % of our our schools in the entire state so really really exceptional we've uh Esther and I were able to go out and celebrate the staff and each of those buildings on the work that they're doing so again based on that the metrics that they have um set forward and the indicators this is where our students are falling out and great job overall across the district so we're going to dig in a little bit more before

we do that want to talk a little bit about enrollment and demographics across the district so you can see here our total enr is just under 5,000 students um when you look across that grid you'll see where our neighboring uh our districts are that we can pay ourselves to we are right below Geneva and bavia St Charles is is much larger than us but they're losing population and we're continuously growing so you can see just an enrollment alone where we're falling out and we're continuing to grow you take down that far column you'll see where our population is looking at what is our student body make up currently so 60% of our students are are falling in that white category you'll see across the bottom there that we're top of the tier across those neighboring

districts our asan population is the top across all all of those other districts in the area our Hispanic population is continuously growing we're the top there um our eel seel and one of the things that we're really really really important on is that we have the lowest bid in our chronic absenteeism so we have our students here when we look at that comparison across we have our students inhouse here as much as we possibly can we want to continue to reduce that level and then we have the lowest dropout rate when we're looking at the comparison so this just some Global um information as we dig into how our students are performing but it tells you what our demographics are across and who we're comparing ourselves to and so just on a side note understanding

we are the most diverse District like we put it in just blank terms when we're comparing all those districts together that's really what it breaks down to so we'll begin here with our I cohart data so what we're looking at so third through e8th grade students will be taking our Ira no I a um and this particular one is looking at our Ela scores and so in this graphic we wanted to do a comparison how are students performing over time what is our cohort of groups of students how are they how are they moving that needle we kept that 2019 you see where they were entering in we know we had the closures we know know we had that um the event that occurred Co did happen and now we're still in that recovery um

this particular last column on the far right we wanted to hone in on what are how are our students performing and what are what's that change Factor looking like so when you look at 22 to 23 across the board how are those cohorts of students they're showing positive gains in our Ela now are we to where we want to get to in some of those grades no we still have work ahead of us but we are closing that Gap we are working at new curriculum um implementation looking at our data what is it telling us and we're making those adjustments some two things to really highlight there when I look at our our fourth grade to fifth grade which is our current sixth grade students you see that heavy increase um again our seventh to

e8th grade which is our current ninth grade students you see 18.5% increase so that change Factor over time in one year telling us we're closing that Gap here's our math um again our cow data of I it's not where we would anticipate it to be we know there's some some work to do um you know we can see again that column 2019 all the way across the 2023 you see we're still not there there still is work to do um last year we brought in Sp spring math which is an intervention we did it classwide now it's got some um components that we can do individualized intervention within that program but that was brand new this past year so we're still refining and still fine-tuning those pieces um you can see from 22 to 23

we did have two grade levels that that cohort over time showed some increase um so fourth to fifth our current sixth grade had shown some increase 1.7% and again then we see our sixth to sth which is our current eighth grade population of 6 increase um still some heavy area of increase that we've got to dig in a little bit more um and study to figure out what do we need to do how do we support those students do we see any trending in um grades let's say so in math right if we're looking at these percentages do I'm sure obviously we track that y I don't know about this level though third fourth and fifth right do we see grading shifts if the cohort is having more difficulty do we see kids getting bees

versus like is there a shift in average grades to match some of these numbers challenge ahead of us and that's why we've engaged in the the report card work is what does that grade really mean from one person to the next person or grade levels to grade levels or building to building there's some inconsistencies it's really about refining what is that metric that's going into that grade and is that aligned to what we're expecting our students to be able to do on these State assessments this past year we we went back to took a risk um and went back to quarterly meetings where we would have um grade level staff on our Sac teams out of the classroom to work on curriculum and assessment development we didn't have that until before way back in before

Co because of subbing challenges and things that were ahead of us so we went back to that this particular case we've had an opportunity to dig in to say what does it look like from an instructional lens how are you addressing if we know we have to do modeling and reasoning what does that look like in a classroom what are you doing on a day in and day out basis how are our assessments written so we're monitoring are they at that same level of expectation what is in front of them or what they're expected to do on I so there's much work to do there's much work to do with the inconsistencies across the board but people you know we've had some success already and been able to go back to having having those quarterly

meetings so the hope is the anticipation is that we'll continue to see the fruit of that labor seems the largest risk is going to be at the grade school level when you have four or five yes teachers and you g to have we know there's gonna be differences and Inc capacity to teach certain types of skill sets and so on those differences and then building to building then we had them get to sixth grade and you might have had a different band of kids who have this strength and and then this band of kids from a different grade school maybe doesn't have that so that to me is going to be really important is how we're getting our age level if somebody on the team is struggling with something are we supporting each other at

the at the grade levels because they have some autonomy there I think there there's two challenges here so if you take the third grade group 2022 um 2021 you try to back map them you can see they're in kindergarten first grade which is your foundational skills that they're all receiving and so try to pick up and close some of the gaps and Foundation causes a problem you're going to see the same thing come alive in the high school math uh they missed all of eighth grade and nth grade so they missed their pre-algebraic skills they missed their algebraic skills and they had to go on to continue and so we're seeing a little bit of dip across all schools we're seeing those kinds of dips just how severe dips and what kind of growth are

we seeing as we're coming across there so that that's a challenge as we're watching those kids come through which we know our teachers are doing a great job of threading in um different skill sets they know they're missing to try to thre that has continue to move them in that progression but it's a it's a challenging piece that we have um alongside this we have a growing change in demographics which means different needs in our district as well so as you're trying to marry that against some of the demographic shifts that of the different um challenges that are coming in with those types of moves really just does challenge The District in terms of different ways and our staff inside the buildings U Behavior which you'll see come alive Behavior has increased in all districts

across state of Illinois across um and so we're looking at student Behavior it's also trying to figure out how do we manage those instead of our classroom and help our teachers be able to do that so all of those elements are are impacting some of these things that we're seeing here not that that's an excuse we just have to figure out how to manage that and how to to kind of continue to keep moving well it's it's about pulling people those key people together to have that opportunity to talk about it so this year um in fact this fall we started doing uh articulation meetings across all all element and then also um weaving into our middle school so that we provide that opportunity like what you were talking about Dr noan is giving them

that time to talk through what does that look like so if this is what it looks like in my classroom how are you approaching it and how are we working collectively together if you have a strength area let me learn from you and vice versa so staff have embraced it with open arms it's been great feedback at the building level and then it's just about circling back so what are we finding and then what are we doing about it to support our students and to answer your question about grades the challenge is this in 2020 teachers were told to not grade anything everybody gets an A in 2021 we came back and you had to watch grades again because the state mandated that all kids must pass and so we got into a into a

pattern of um overemphasizing grades and so now we have to reset and get grades in line do grades match our score trends no we definitely have a disconnect between grades and score Trends so a parent that might see their student getting A's may not necessarily be meeting they might be approaching and so we have to get that back in line but part of that is just where we've been and where we're going and trying to get that back and reset and having those conversations and it's about progression so these assessments are built off of Standards end ofe standards and where the growth is and markers at that particular time so when we're reporting that information out to our families on those subset of time whether it's quarters or whether it's trimesters it's an accurate dep

of where that student is on that particular time knowing the goal is there that's what has to happen to have that realignment and reset okay so now we'll dig in a little bit more so I meets and exceeds categories and then we did a comparison across um our different districts in the county that we compare ourselves to this particular grid is the the color coding is what's power so if you see the salmon they're performing lower than we are if you see it green they're performing greater than we are this particular time and then if it's white it's the same as us so again overall when you're looking at where we're performing and compared to our our surrounding districts we're doing pretty well when it comes to that is there areas of growth absolutely we

know we're right in line and right behind St Charles at 61.4 we're coming in at 59 and we'll be there soon enough so it's just about how do we readjust restructure refine and have that uh you know fruit of our labor come forward in that um Ouran population is outperforming every District in our neighboring area same with our um multi-racial our IEP students 18.5 so great success um in meeting those markers at this particular time our low SS students again 44.6 highest in the surrounding parison districts math there's a little more work to do um as you can see in the previous slides it's definitely an area that we are continuingly to refine and study and find out what what do we do different and how do we continue to expand um you'll see our

overall is 42.7% not where we want it to be but we know we've got to get there and we know that Co did happen as Esther had mentioned earlier that foundational component whether you hit um or missed out of those algebra uh Readiness skills in eighth grade or you are a kindergarten student just entering that did affect you and those foundational skills are going to take some time to close it's the accelerated approach how do we close that without going back do we fill that bucket in that same time and keep them at grade level expectations um you can see some real highlights there our low SCS at 29.4 again just below our St Charles um some of our other populations again our Hispanic population 31.1 just below our St Charles so we're continuing to

refine we've got some work to do but definitely um roll up our sleeves and getting into it this um is our percentile so where do we see um year to year over time what does that look like and how are we performing and closing those gaps kind of similar to what that first slide was where you could see that change Factor over time how are they performing there's nobody in the surrounding area that is outperforming us at this particular time in the growth percentile so really some success there to highlight again we want to continue to push that needle not where we want to end but we're well on that way and continue to refine that um math you'll see just below some of the uh surrounding areas on our 50 53.0 and our overall

we know our subpopulations we still need to continue to refine what popped out here for me was our Asian population we're at 56.9 so it's higher than where our overall is um but lower than the state so definitely an area that we Contin continuously need to refine and figure out what it is um and how do we continue to enhance that our IEP students came out top across the surrounding area our El population again 57.5 so you see some some areas of of strength and things to celebrate and also some areas that we continu continuously need to refine so as we move to the high school sat our Juniors take that class or that assessment and we got to think back to these are eighth graders in 201920 school year so as the progression has

occurred this is this is our Ela subject area that's going to roll out you can see we are not um near where we want to be um we're kind of in the middle because every population within a school is a little different and so as you start going down uh the left hand side you can see um some of the areas of of that we're doing okay you know yes the S SE area we're we're doing really well but we really have to Target some of those things where we're being successful and move those practices to the other classroom to make sure that we're going to be able to progress through um With A Little Bit Stronger performance um some of these things are built on those key foundational skills that are set forward you

know or beh or from the foundation and then moving forward and it is a time that it takes to have that happen we cannot ma wave a magic wand which is going to somehow gift our students because as this level of learning is occurring with a national test like this it is comparing everybody and it takes our students time just like everyone else and I think what's a better picture of what's going on is actually this slide so this is our SAT proficiency change District comparison for ELA and if you look at this you'll start to see in uh 2019 okay we're at a 50.2 you'll see that we do dip okay so we're going down but then you start seeing in 2023 we already are starting to come back now are we back to

where we want to be no we're still we're still behind but then you can start to see the change comparison so 19 to 22 there's a negative4 that change that I'm talking about is 22 to 23 it's a0 6 positive at least we're going in the right direction which the overall change when you're comparing that uh 19 to 23 that's where the negative 3.8 is coming from but now as you look at that and you compare every other District so on the bottom one change from 19 to 23 when you look at the negative uh 3.8 there's only two districts out there that have beat us on that okay and and you start looking at you know the school that we keep talking about that we're trying to challenge you can see their dip in

ela is almost twice in one situation so we are not an anomaly but we still aren't satisfied with where we want to be and where we need to go as we move into the math you'll see we are not doing as well here comparatively to our Ela you can look at our populations here and yes our Asian students are at 68% okay which is is phenomenal but we have to figure out how do we address the needs of all subpopulations to be able to find out what is happening why is why is this group getting material retaining material and performing with that material versus another po ation and so uh we've got multiple things going on in math and as it was shared before you know our foundational skills uh just talk about algebra alone

like that skill and being able to master that skill is critical it's it's not even an option it is critical to the movement of math moving forward no matter where you go so when we move forward and our students are going through that progression how much time are we now reteaching and taking time to do that which then sets us up for when that junior level academic assessment's going to happen what has been missed what haven't we been able to get to yet and maybe we're still doing quality education but the spot where that student is now compared to where they were three four five years ago is a different step and and we have to recognize that and know that um we can't accept it as that's what we want to be but how

do we continue to move forward with our students that we have and continue to close that gap down uh when we move to the comparison you'll see here we had 50.2 in 2019 we dropped to 39.3 in 2023 that's a big anomaly that that's I'm not gonna hide that I mean we have to recognize the fact of that negative 133% change okay and that we need to find out what's going on there okay now yeah that bottom row shows us that we're not as bad as everybody but at the same time for us that's a a pinpoint Focus that we need to find out what is going on to assist our students in being more successful as we move forward you know what what are those skills that are causing that to happen because we

all know Ela and math we're going to use the rest of our lives daily to be successful so um any questions on those two areas this is the slide that sorry I'm gonna keep talking this is the slide that I was uh kind of hinted about earlier this is comparing our actual cost in three different categories so School spending per student instructional spending per student and operational spending per student and you can see us Central at the top and then Geneva St Charles bavia can State going going down and you can see that across the board when it comes to the earlier question on on how lean are we the fiscal responsibility that we're taking we're doing the best we can but um there's not a lot of whle room on being able to remove

without it impacting what we're able to do something would uh happen so on this side of it you can just directly see the numbers and the values sorry I didn't speak up fast enough with the last slide um we're talking a six-year progression with Ela to catch up to where we were and math I mean it's definitely six years too um that drop is obviously super concerning and um just so the rest of the board knows I had a little brief discussion with curcular director director books and Matt is one of my concerns just because my kids actually in high school um they need to figure out what they're doing which is what I talk to them about um one of my main concerns is that there's no math book so hopefully you know we

can find one finally um but this is nuts and the other thing I just wanted to bring up too um it's on his list to do is to look at the co is to delve in more on this both Ela and math Math's a little easier I think but to look at the strands in high school and how the kids are performing within those strands um to look at that progression throughout the years so and the one thing that we also talked about is the math one two three rollout if I just want to remind people that we are this year in the first roll out of math 3 so that backwards approach of three years ago was math one then it was math two now it's math three there is a curricular change occurring

in math I'm not trying to like sure like say excuses but we're also we had the discuss discussion on like what's working what do we have to adjust are we continuing to adjust meaning math one the first time what what did we change and adjust the second time it happened what adjustments are we making the same thing has to happen to math two currently math three um all of those things we have to continue to make sure that that new integrated math approach of one two three will be successful with our students um so I just want to be honest on that I also want to point out obviously we're going anytime you have a new program or you a new implementation implementation this court is a group that missed PR algebra missed algebra one

and we and we implemented a new process in mathematics if you just look at change 2223 every single District lost there there is no because every single District had the same type of students coming through this process of what was going on I honestly thought we would Faire better right because we were one of the only schools that returned yeah in person consistently yeah and so that that of course is a concern and it's just figuring out what what's going on and how do we how do we get here but also alongside this with these kids we also have a new math curriculum Elementary we're bringing through so some of these kids in fifth grade start a new math curriculum math and focus and then rolled into middle school and so we have multiple things

that happen to this one cohort in our district that has an impact that's why I think it'll be interesting to go backwards to see what happened in terms of mathematics and why we're here I I this is an anomally group I hope um but it's not good for sure no and then we should have thought about that too knowing that these kids already went through that in fifth grade so that's a shame on us moment really and to speak to the man piece I know um Stephen and I did have a math sack team so the Bing of resources will go through that process process so that was just a few months ago so we'll continue that process has begun so that we can ensure that there's there's resources and materials when the students exit

the doors of the classroom yes that teacher is their is their contact but when they go home what are the resources that are at their fingertips to help support them so what are those layers of support that are embedded um that process of betting that out has been done or and it shouldn't say been done is in the process um I do also want to note to Elementary we're five of six of our math and focus so we will be beginning that process and it's it's going to be something where we really have to lift the hood on the car and take a deep dive because the program that we're utilizing is very much conceptual based and that that's been somewhat of a struggle I know we've brought in some multiple things we've done some

coaching we've been very explicit with standards and understanding those but that comes with some other comp components that we just need to kind of dig dig some more into and look the hood of the car and figure out what EXA be the best approach moving forward and and just one other note during that sack meeting one thing one thing that came out is um to me a sign of how our teachers believe in what they do the power of what they believe um it takes a progression for us to get a textbook we all understand that and they immediately were like but we're not going to wait anytime a student or a parent has a question you know their philosophy right now in the math department as a whole was reach out you know we're

we're going to take the time and effort to help each student you know whether that's during our our our time that's built in during the school day or before or after um they were very clear like they know their expectation on being able to assist every child especially and that was math that one um to help them so this is not like we need to wait and I don't want that vibe to be out there that we are because of a missing textbook we're waiting we're not waiting we're we're still going to support kids now dayto day um and the math department uh that was that's that's them vocalizing so I just want to share that side from the Department itself like our teachers understand um especially at the high school level some of those

content areas that are harder I mean I can admit myself you know some of those higher math skill courses you sometimes if you're not using it maybe you lose your Calculus skills like it it just it goes away a little bit that's an honest truth so they openly shared the fact of like when those situations come up that a student has questions specifically to math encourage the student to reach out you know a parent to reach out because they're there to assist I think conceptually that's great but I just like parents kids are busier now than more than ever so I mean agree you know yes we have AA at the end of beginning of the school day end of the school day but what percentage actually seeks that out you know it's it's as

an adult that's a great thing to say and do but realistically you know I don't know the answer it's rhetorical that how many kids actually do that so you know how many kids want to spend more time on math when they just spent their 45 minute period and they're expecting to learn what they needed and oh crap I forgot to write down a note that's going to make or break my homework that night or I don't even know what to ask yeah exactly I have nothing to compare my notes to to make sure they're right so okay any other questions for us all right thank you thank you guys thank you thank you all right next on the agenda is the enrollment report so I just have it here kind of informational any questions you

have for it all right thanks for highlighting that um on to for you so the for request we have is from uh Miss Casey she was asking for us to provide her with our lit curriculum uh that we use across our District kindergarten through third grade um and so we basically responded that hmh into reading is our curriculum uh that we utilize we're not adding any other programs for literacy that is our current program um and that's where we're Landing to fiveyear term that we've signed on for Ender reading so uh We've began that March of 2022 so we'll continue for five years through 2027 that concludes the meeting tonight we're uh need a motion second to adjourn Open Session and move to close session moved second Fulk yes Hil yes Nolan yes papis yes

vote Yes Gorman yes motion is Cle thank you
