001uh pam can you take one call brown yes johnson yes nolan yes yes here gorman can you hear us in the background it is like really loud i'd like to request a motion and second to approve tonight's agenda no moved second blind yes hillenberger yes yes federer yes rave yes gorman yes uh please join us as we say the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all i like to thank everybody for coming out um not everybody listening and watching at home dr stearns we've been together i would like to welcome steve diversity steve is going to be presenting later tonight on our athletic update we have good news
002and that we're finally able to be offering athletics for for students so i'm happy to happy to share that with you ward also received uh correspondence from a former teacher uh patty vanco her husband jeff uh recently passed away um and we sent flowers on board's behalf so i have that thank you letter that can be passed around and i'd like to draw your attention to the back of the conference room and there's a new piece of art back there that's hanging on the wall and this piece of art was just donated today by one of our central high school art students learn key and we're going to invite lauren next month to join uh join us at the board meeting to be recognized that's pretty cool all right next we'll go in the public
003cabinet so first we do chapman good evening uh first off thank you for listening to my public comments today uh there are two items on the agenda that are up for approval for the school board that i would like to touch on the first one is the district calendar for next school year the school board is looking to adopt option b which would have parent conferences moved to october and then students in attendance on the monday and tuesday before thanksgiving our cea executive board and we did share the survey results from our membership and you could see an overwhelming majority of those who took the survey support option a that dr stern had brought to the board in december option a has parent conferences in early november and also the monday and tuesday before thanksgiving
004are teacher institute days some of the reasons why cea supports option a is it provides not only more time to get to know your students but also to you know see the different interventions that are working or not working and collecting a lot of data and so having that parent conference in early november we look at being as more beneficial than in october it also provides more time between corridor at the end of quarter one and then parent conferences to also assess new interventions that are put in place and i think one of the more major concerns with option b is having students in attendance the monday and tuesday before thanksgiving break you know we've done this before in the past and the concern is student absenteeism and it's no fault to the parents or
005anything like that thanksgiving's about family and going on and seeing them and so you know people are going to take trips during that week and so having that time as teacher institute days instead we think or would be a little more valuable as we don't want students to lose out on instruction and i know dr noland you had brought up you know saint charles using having conferences in october but also st charles is taking all of thanksgiving off there's no students in attendance on that monday and tuesday and so you know ca is just asking that you would reconsider what you're going to be approving today or at the very least make some modifications to that the second agenda item does relate to um approving a five-year contract for dr mogan as deputy superintendent for
006two years and then three years as superintendent um the i've received a lot over the past 24 hours regarding this not um setting aside the candidate uh not dr maggie but just in general regardless of the candidate there's concern regarding the collaborative process regarding this a lot of people are concerned that many different parties didn't have an input in this so there are several questions not only myself but others who have reached out to me have and that i'm hoping that the school board could answer and that is you know why did the the staff not have any input in this decision why did the community not have input in this decision and then i've had several people reach out regarding even the timing of it uh you know there are seven school board members
007three school board members will no longer be school board members in two months we'll actually have three brand new school board members in april and those new school board members are gonna be school board members for four years uh that will be two years with dr mongan as deputy superintendent in the first two years as superintendent and so they are going to be up you know working with dr mongan and so people are wondering why would the decision not be made at that time after that new board is brought in instead of at this time so i wanted to share some of those questions that i have fielded and hoping that you guys would be able to provide the rationalization regarding that so thank you for listening to me i appreciate it we don't normally
008uh comment on public comment but i i will take some time to answer your question i guess um i personally spoken with some of the incoming board members um they're not aware of what we're voting on tonight but they hold our candidate in very high regard and i don't think there would be an issue um then but it was our decision to do that now um why we didn't ask cea or public um i've never been asked at my job if they should hire my supervisor and i really don't see why we would ask you who you think your supervisor or get input from you on that so you know that's um on me i guess because i didn't ask the board if we should do that so um i don't remember doing that in
009the past with our last superintendent so i didn't think that was pertinent to do it now so i just don't remember that like i said i don't remember that's what i said you know and to go with your first thing that you commented on with the calendar i know you're against option b that was recommended to us by administration who we've obviously listened to and usually take their recommendations on but you sent us this information i believe yesterday even though we talked about it last month and possibly the month before i don't understand why you wait till last minute to send us information um and the question that you posed to your membership the question for the public because i don't think they're aware of it from my perspective the school board understands what i'm
010doing and in quotations has my back the vast majority of teachers ec early childhood through 12th grade were neutral or disagreed with that of the ones who answered and i think well over half answered your survey it's a little concerning to me seeing that we just got through a memorandum of understanding about remote learning with coving we just agreed on the contract for two years where you guys receive over four percent each year i just really don't understand how the board doesn't have the teacher's backs so um i'm sorry you feel that way all the teachers listening it's a puts a bad taste in my mouth it's kind of unfortunate but it is what it is i guess so i really don't think i personally am not going to reconsider the calendar from the information
011i received so i appreciate you saying your piece but you know a little too much too late maybe so um well it's jennifer benson hi i'm jennifer benson thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my comments i really appreciate that my daughter is a senior in at central high school and so i'm just here today just asking um if you all would consider opening up the school um more i mean i know it's two days a week now in person and very appreciative of that but um um i would definitely like to see it open more like four days a week especially with um for the seniors but you know specifically because this is their last year and um and you know as a as a mom of the senior i
012just would love to see that for the um for the kids and especially now that there is um a vaccine um available i i understand it's um for certain ages but um i would love to see that um and i hope you don't mind i'm just going to read from some data that i have here that i collected i just recently found out that barrington high school juniors and seniors in district 220 went back to school full-time five days a week just recently in january wheaton north and south high school are having seniors go back four days a week and all day and maybe adding more later though this is that was the high schools that i have found out that are going back whedon elementary schools are 77 in person the middle school in
013district 25 in arlington heights is now going four days a week um and 70 percent in person um they specifically are not doing six feet apart instead if someone gets covered they are and they are within six feet of that person they ask those people to quarantine and this is within the illinois department of health regulations um the cdc even states that it's safe to open schools fully um and i know you know the schools i mentioned have been doing it with no issues the private schools have been doing it since august there's another school that public school that was doing it since august and they've been you know everything's been going really well with that um and they've been doing really well with those kids going full-time uh four or five days a week
014um and so that's just kind of um the things i wanted to bring up and uh my concerns and you know and i understand it might be hard to have all all the kids um but you know just asking that um possibly like like i said giving the seniors priority um to going back whether it be march i don't know just so they have some some normalcy for their senior year as they look back on that um or juniors and seniors um i'd even i know that's a lot of i'm sure that's a lot of work in a different organization to have that happen i'd even be willing to help volunteer or try to get some parents to help volunteer to get that organized or whatever it may be that needs to happen it's just
015a thought and my question is someone mentioned to me that next year that you're considering having a hybrid still next year even with the vaccine so that's my question is that is that true and then my other question is the field house is that i'm not sure if that's being used for classroom space or if it's not if it could be possibly used for classroom space and and then my other question is i saw in the chicago tribune that different schools were awarded money so i know central 301 was awarded a million dollars so i'm just wondering my other question is what that is specifically being used for um and yeah and just in conclusion um just as a parent of a senior you know specifically and the other parents that i've talked to who
016would just like to to see them at least go back for a little bit and have somewhat of a of a normal normal senior year um so thank you so much i appreciate your time thank you um we've jotted down some of your questions so we'll get back to some answers shortly second to discuss and approve the consent agenda second your revenue and expenditure summary reports are included in your packet revenues are at 47.01 compared to 45.61 a year ago expenditures are at 45.77 compared to 47.7 for a year ago we did not receive any transition fees or impact fees since last board meeting and then the bills payable for both northern kane and 4th central are are typical for february any questions today all right kellenberger yes yes yes second to discuss and approve
017the draft 2021-2022 school calendar so moved second so um as president chapman mentioned earlier um there were two options an initial option that was bought brought to the board in december which had um parent-teacher conferences on november 4th and 5th and then had nominal students none had professional development days on the 22nd and 23rd of november so it was a non-student attendance day typically in the past we would have taken uh this calendar to the district leadership team to look at but that team is not meeting this year due to covid so i did share that original draft calendar with president chapman i believe he took it to um whichever membership he selected to share it with i think it was his exec board and then um you know said okay looks pretty good so
018i brought that forward to the board in december if you remember in your discussion um you gave me some directives that you would like to see some revisions made to that you had concerns that that november was being cut up too much with december so you'd have two short student attendance months that that was a concern of the board and you wanted parent-teacher conferences moved earlier so taking that that information and then meeting with um cabinet level team administration looking at that we're also thinking about then the professional development in the spring where it could be really used for for some of our work with standards and assessments following the work that we've built up and so teachers have time to work on that so based on that feedback i brought back um my recommendation
019with the revisions of last month to the to the board i also shared that um calendar with president chapman um he again made it very clear that he preferred the initial uh calendar but the board after discussion last month said they were not looking for changes at this time for this calendar and they were supportive to move forward so that's where we're at any comments or questions on that all right pam um kellenberger yes nolan yes yes rape yes brown yes gorman yes the next motion second to discuss and approve lunch feed prices for next year 21-22 second so included in your board packet um we're recommending keeping our lunch prices for next school year the same as they are this year no increases so the high school would be three dollars and twenty cents
020middle schools three dollars and ten cents elementary three dollars teacher adults would be three dollars 75 cents um milk prices and the reduced lunch prices would stay at the 40 cents any questions on this no that's in line with our past years correct yeah we we've increased a little bit last year and then this year we're just keeping flat okay nolan yes yes yes brown [Music] yes last action item is uh we need a motion second to discuss and approve the affiliation agreement which allows our students opportunity to complete 100 hours of externship required to earn a veterinarian assistant certificate second as you're aware we continue to reach out to veterinary partners to work with us for the externships this is a new agreement that we've reached for this year so we're very excited that
021anderson animal shelter is willing to work with us so we're looking for your approval on this uh business partner i have a question so the more we put together then the more students can take that class than ever correct there's number of students that can go into each externship hours and so when they need 100 hours so you can imagine the number of veterinary partners we need but the more veterinary partners we can get the better off our students are this year we due to covert we did have some limitations we're going to let our seniors go first they got first priority to make sure that we could cover all their externship on ours and our juniors had to wait um kind of on the sideline to see if we could get some hours uh
022some people have picked up so we've been able to get some of our juniors in as well to complete some of their hours toward that hundred hours they'll need for next year so do multiple students go to one could be it's really up to the partner so we have some partners that will take multiple students or they take students at alternating days and work with them so most of our business partners take on multiple students and so far everything we're hearing from our partners is very positive experiences with our students you know if most of them have a student because we have like over 25 yeah all of our partners are oh have students if they're able to take them for covert 19. some of them have said hold on uh but most of them
023that are willing to sign this year are taking part or taking students right yes grape yes brown yes yes director diversity is here to give us an update good evening all right i'll talk louder so i'm going to talk to you guys on a few different facets and we'll slowly build uh this has been probably the craziest 30 days that we've had with trying to go from zero to a thousand not even a hundred with getting everything up and running um and trying to get all the facilities and everything scheduled and everybody going but first off all the activities that we have offered at middle school and high school are up and running they're all virtual and i've been popping into some of those and i do see numbers increasing primarily probably because there's not
024a whole lot of overlap we're not trying to steal the same kids at the same times so our sponsors are staggering a lot of their meeting times and we're seeing a lot of a good participation there so hopefully we can continue to keep building when we get back in person and you know they can keep working collaboratively so our kids don't have to make choices as far as middle school sports as soon as we were able to go live in person girls volleyball shifted from virtual to in person so that's been going very well i know they had a seventh eighth grade practice scrimmage amongst themselves because the ncjc decided not to have any volleyball games so just to try to give those girls you know something you know they arranged that boys basketball and
025cheerleading has started no competitions for them at the middle school level and that was a conference decision but what their ncjc decided girls basketball will have some games very limited so director polloway and myself are going to work with the middle school ads we wanted to kind of get through the last week and a half of what it's like to actually host a game with spectators and parameters and we're gonna go down to cms and pk and see can we offer that you know same option opportunities that we're doing at the high school for for parents to come in and see see the kids play and then we'll we'll get that communicated out as girls basketball approaches um as far as you know middle school football and track they have not yet determined ncjc wise
026what that's going to look like um i think it's it's a big crap shoot at this point because i know high school wise our first football game is march 19th we have you know we can't even see the fence right now behind all the snow so we're not sure what that's going to look like so we have a little bit of time there but i know middle school sport wise uh that's kind of where they're at uh once volleyball went in person we we dr mogan and dr stern and myself we talked we only had one or two girls signed up when it was virtual but as soon as we went person boom they all came back do we are we bound by the ncjc decision to not participate can we work with saint charles
027and play redling and can we i mean like is there any benefit to just getting these kids some competition outside of our conference it's worth looking into but a lot of times the middle school conferences stay locked yeah and a lot of it too is exposure and okay we're going to go here and now we're going to go there so and and their middle school stuff has really been locked over the years but it's definitely worth looking into if they're not to whatever yeah to not have sports might be the exception yeah you know and i don't know what i don't know what that middle school conference looks like you know as far as maybe they have enough games because i know that's what we experienced at the high school once okay here's your conference
028schedule try to find some non-con games well they're all locked because like the duquesne conference which is the saint charles james they're playing tuesday saturdays and sundays just to get their games in with officials and a lot of other facility constraints they have so there's a lot of uh behind the scenes massaging that has to make it for that so now as far as the high school we kind of touched on that right now we are successfully running girls basketball boys basketball dance and cheer girls basketball is off to a great start for 4-0 you know they beat you know batavia carry grove huntley and sycamore yesterday and sycamore would have been what everybody kind of slated as a regional championship game or a sectional game and we beat them handily which was kind of
029a nice nice thing to see uh boys basketball is off to a 3-0 start to get beaten kerry grove huntley woodstock they got jacobs tonight so as soon as i'm done i'm heading back to the high school dance and cheer are the only two sports that are going to have a state tournament but everything has been virtual so it's kind of interesting because they'll compete in in two count two invites in the same day because you're sending in the video so but dance is taken first third and third which their third place is behind perennial state champ manuka and julia catholic so it's hey when we get down state this could be the year that they get a trophy you know which is kind of nice and cheer is just starting their competitions this week
030cheer was a little bit slower to kind of hit the ground running with running their their virtual competitions because there's a lot that goes into it so but they're still going to get their six uh six invites in as well but instead of having a state basketball tournament you know the conference we're going to host the fox valley tournament so that's for all the marbles so at least they're going to play for something worthwhile the the one time through the conference will see the tournament and the way it's sitting right now is central is the team to beat which is a good problem to have we are also the smallest school in the conference so which is kind of fun um so now getting into the great things we are hosting these games i've worked
031with director polloway to figure out our facilities measuring it out putting sit here sit here signs everywhere and we are allowing spectators and as a conference we decided 10-0 in our vote that no no visiting fans because when it comes to enforcing masks and those types of things we have a better relationship with our own parents to have those conversations versus you know those of you that have been to games you can't control somebody you have nothing over besides okay you're not going to agree it's time to leave so we're limiting it to our fans so we can get as many parents in as we can so right now we started with uh two adults per per player and then for our seniors because we have one boys basketball senior and then two girls i'm
032allowing them for because you know they're seniors this is it for them and uh our goal is to still have our senior day to recognize those families and those players and do those things so we have to keep those uh those numbers down the greatest thing is all of our spectators are sitting in the balcony you know and yes the idph and the ihsa rules that they gave us the original one was 30 feet off the court well we don't have 30 feet if you've been in our gym we're lucky to have two you know from the sideline but we're not the only ones in that problem so then they retracted that and said okay if you don't have a minimum of 12 well then they have to sit opposite of the teams well a
033lot of our schools in our conference are like okay freshmen you play jv you played now leave well we have the ability to have our our parents upstairs in the balcony and now those jv kids can transition to the other side of the floor and still be a part of that program because we're still trying to develop and i think that's huge so that's that's how we laid out our gym so we you know we can still offer that to all of our kids so the varsity kids that come in early they sit across from their benches they transition out we clean and they were just kind of flopping sides so but you know director polloway's crew at night they've been great you know with the transition of cleaning in between games the bathrooms in
034between and you know we're only five games in of our 19 home games and you know knock on wood things have been very very smooth um the second awesome piece is working with director tobin and polloway last week monday to wednesday was a whirlwind because i met with matt bill and our our av teacher trying to figure out he streamed a live football game last year saying okay what can we do because if we're not allowing fans we have to offer something to our visiting constituents in our conference because they all had different things and we were going to try to use our cameras and the sling tv and it was very confusing and we need a lot of manpower to get this done and we're really trying to limit students coming in and kids
035coming in because we're limiting it to adults so there's our manpower okay what do we do so director tobin started looking into the huddle cameras and he called me and says hey have you ever thought of this and financially it all worked out you know and we got the cameras and they were put up within two and a half days for our first game against kerry grove and they've been working great and matt mccarthy are one of our techs he's been working with me on the side because i always seem to click the wrong button and get the wrong camera for the wrong game but he's got a down path so we we've been running this you know uh effortlessly and it's been great like i was sitting in the back of the room our
036jv boys are playing right now they went in overtime and lost by three so it's it's kind of awesome i get to watch the girls at the same time i'm home for the boys so it's you know without without our collaborative team that wouldn't happen and i know we've been getting i don't think we've broken a thousand but i think opening night we had 916 views for the varsity boys and it's growing um and with that i was talking to matt and you know we're trying to figure out if we can't get enough spectators and what can we do with the middle schools i know we can't do the huddle cameras but they're playing around with some different type of i'll just call them gopros because i don't know much about them but what can
037we do at those levels to try to offer something for for our parents there but i can tell you that you know we've been having streaming issues at other schools we go to so this has been kind of nice like hey we're you know paving the way for a lot of awesome things and just the the thought process of hey what can we do next that's going to continue to make this better so you know i'm the feel good story i wanted to come and kind of hey this is what's going on and a lot of great things and if you guys have questions for me yes i would like to say that i i think you're you're very humble steve standing up there because i know the the work dr mangan knows the work
038that you've been putting in um to the athletics to your regular meetings with a ihsa to meeting with other other school districts to working with director tobin director polloway um your your leadership is is very appreciated as well as the other members of the team that you collaborated with so in closing we will have the rest of the high school sports season so boys soccer football and volleyball is supposed to start next i'm very confident volleyball will go without any hitches outside sports i'm not 100 sure what that looks like right now especially we're getting what three more inches maybe by the end of the week um but the exciting part is our spring season we totally lost last year right now the ihsa is planning on state tournaments for all of them for baseball
039softball girls soccer and boys and girls track and wrestling is going to happen in what i'm considering spring two their summer season they won't have they won't have a state tournament but they will have a season so which which is nice because our huddle camera now our main gym is the main focus for all of these competitions there's other there's other aspects of our huddle cameras that you know we can record practices and those types of things for teaching elements um i was talking with matt we're going to try to see if we can figure out smaller groups or maybe try to incorporate some fine arts in there you know play a live performance i want to get in there and test it and see what the acoustics are first i know we can hear
040mark einwick on there loud and clear but i don't know what it sounds like when you start putting 10 instruments in there is there too much bounce because there's there's no bodies to absorb the feedback so we're going to play around with that and see you know if we can start using this or maybe the field house camera would be better you know so this is opening up a lot of avenues that we didn't have i would say two weeks ago so it's kind of exciting to see what we can do with this from here on out so hey steve what is a huddle camera so basically huddle is the platform where all of our coaches use for scouting trading films teaching you know when they're going over game film and that well so they
041have these basically it's a it's a box there's three lenses in there one stationary on the scoreboard and the rest move with the movement and so i just call it the huddle camera it's just a regular camera but it's sent to us by huddle okay so it's just the platform that it's under so on that where's that access is that on youtube so yeah so everything's on our athletic 8-18 site but it's uh youtube live so it's dot chs.streaming space one and then chs dot streaming space two is the field house and i mean the pictures are awesome like heard some good feedback on it yeah you know a couple of girls uh basketball player parents have been able to see games because of that games essentially yeah and i it's it's not it's not
042the same because i know you know one of our senior parents mom she texted me she's like grandpa's got to come because i you know you can't get somebody to watch my little guy but i'll watch it live stream you know so it's not the greatest thing but you're not going to miss it and i know as a parent with kids in sports we can't always be there and now this is an avenue to not miss it because something else is inhibiting that so no it's definitely a great thing to be able to use and probably use in the future as well yeah and i know we're exploring i know they asked us to be a beta site for the football stadium and due to the weather we're going to move soccer into the football
043stadium this year because you know director polloway doesn't have the manpower to be snowblowing and shoveling two facilities to use for games so we're gonna focus on one and you know and then this way if we get the huddle camera there let's test it out and see because maybe this is the way we go and we start looking at other facilities you know because i can tell you you know with a lot of our parents they work and those 4 30 games are tough but now if we get stream alive like i said it's not the same but well that's where i was going with it yeah definitely i mean yeah you know it's a challenge to be able to get out there but it's something to be able to add value right and the
044nice thing is just like the board meetings you know because it's the youtube live they're there they don't disappear so if you miss it live you can still go home and watch it at night you know so all of our you know like i call you know i'm an armchair quarterback dad too you know i could sit down with my kid and actually watch the game now and have conversations so there really loves that oh well we can review the tapes from tonight's episode exactly tomorrow as well but you know there's a lot of benefits that you know we didn't have which which i think is good and it just shows the innovation of our district and not willing to just settle we'll you know keep turning over stones until we find out what works
045so you know it's really an exciting thing to be a part of it's the work that we've done in the past from you know the fiber loop connecting all our facilities yeah because without the fiber i don't think we could do that we would not have had the broadband to do that so right no it's good i'm glad other sports will get to live the pain of snog fields not just stuff on baseball yeah because we've been there well when i talked to our baseball softball coaches and i said you know hey this year we might have to do our game changer live you know because and that's the other piece we don't we don't even know what our outside mitigations are going to be yet because they haven't told us you know so if
046it's 50 in the stadium well i don't know if we have any spectators out there you know how does that look for baseball softball so we're still in the planning stages we have our schedules but we don't know what it looks like from a spectator side so we're still all thinking outside the box of what can we do to provide for our parents because the kids pieces is taken care of they can play we got coaches we have games they're set it's it's the other aspect now that we have to focus on so hopefully we get something soon you know i know we have another ihsa meeting this week so that's one of the bigger questions is when is spring mitigation is going to come out for us so we can start planning because i
047know i got to work with director polloway because if we can have fans i don't even think we could see a seat in the bleachers right now [Laughter] let alone get into the stadium so those are other hurdles we'll have to take on so any other questions well thank you i'm gonna run back to the high school now good luck all right next is the adoption of ap stats the practice of statistics so we had a request from the math department at the high school uh to uh adopt a new textbook for the ap stats uh our teacher and the department chair aj pill did a review this year of three different textbooks which are in the memo that i provided for you of the three textbooks they have selected the book that i'm passing
048around the practice of statistics ratchet out for it there were some changes from the college board that required them to readjust some things and add some things into their curriculum by the college board if you recall college board or ap courses are really designated as what they require us to instruct so they give us the curriculum and the syllabus in which we must follow to teach the college uh course because it goes as college credit if they get a three four or five uh so the ap college board dictates that the cost that i'm uh of the textbook will be ten to almost eleven thousand dollars we're looking for uh 30 textbooks for the classroom class set which is very usually purchased for the purpose of our teachers to have a class set and then
049as well as 60 digital license because we have 60 students for next year and then that would continue we would up them if we need to if we have additional students in there um on annual basis but the licensing is for a six-year license we got better pricing for an extended license so we'll be extending that for a six-year license and rachel madrid was the classroom teacher still is the classroom teacher for ap stats that work directly with uh aj peel any questions regarding how many students would you say we have 60 students that take the ap stats for next year isn't this the class that we brought back after a student we did that one has been struggling uh tia sportsman used to teach it for us and so she it had started out
050very low she had been able to get quite a few students to come to it she left us uh to go to another district and when she left she kind of took a little dip again and now it's coming back up so while we're back up to 60 for next year which we're excited about music tia palmeter sorry she got married any questions all right thanks astrid um next is a in-person remote learning status report i'll begin um so every every district employee across all category of physicians who desired to receive the vaccine was able to receive the vaccine last week they had clinics that ran on tuesday wednesday and thursday we're able to accommodate everyone outside of work hours so that we can maximize student learning the second dose of the vaccine will be
051available for any any of our employee groups uh starting then on march 9th 10th and 11th and it will work the same way this this previous clinic worked so in future meeting with the health department they'll be sharing links with me and then once those links become available uh they'll go to our staff to be able to sign up for their second dose of the of the vaccine so that's good news that that's rolling out in fact um the vast majority of of educators and employees of school districts across king county were able to receive the vaccine do we have any certainly respecting that we can't ask people if they got it but any kind of unofficial data that we have for the number of our teachers and direct you know direct care we had
052like 368 people that responded yes they wanted to receive the vaccine another 114 people who were undecided and in our conversations with the health department we made sure that there was more than enough vaccine available for not only everyone who said yes but everyone was undecided and that's some additional for people who are maybe no but then switched over so that's good news the cdc recently came out with some some new operational strategies for k-12 schools through phase mitigation really as you as you start to look at it and dig into it they're saying that you could transmission rate at elementary is lower than the transmission rate in middle school in high school so that you could bring back theoretically bring back more students at the elementary level in pods or classrooms where they kind
053of move together and they're contained but they're still looking at hybrid models right now for middle school and high school now you have to remember that things change rapidly so if you had asked me on the beginning of january if i thought we'd be having athletics right now i think i would say no i didn't i wouldn't say that based on the numbers but now we have athletics opening up in my conversations with the local health department um not only myself but other superintendents ask about will you start to limit for king county in our region the the social distancing requirement of six feet and then we would like to say what about three feet you know can you can you eliminate down to that and right now they're saying um still no uh they're
054sticking with the six feet but when you look at the guidelines it's it's six feet whenever to the fullest then possible whenever possible so you have to look at all those factors as you play into it so things are still changing um we're committed to our current model for the remainder of the school year dr mogan will talk a little bit about starting some committee work and some other issues because of because of this and because there's not a vaccine available for students right now we're going to take some additional steps so dr mongan yeah so what we're going to try to do is push out a survey at the end of this week to community members or parents to ask them if they would still be willing to do remote next year if the
055state board requires it we do believe that because of the vaccine situation that we're able to get teachers uh with vaccines but they don't really have any time frame for students to be vaccinated that we still have parents out there that may be uncomfortable having their students attend school with that being said we do we're kind of guessing that the state board of education is going to say you have to offer remote learning just like we had to offer and what learning this year wasn't really a choice by district that was dictated by the illinois state board of education if that's the case we really want to get early numbers to see what those numbers are so we can plan for staffing patterns by grade level what are we looking at how do we schedule
056for those types of elements especially as we begin to look at our committee work that we need to do and how is that going to lay out will it look different for elementary than it might for middle school and high school although we have half days currently and it is a different schedule for elementary i do think there is promise in what the cdc has with the cdc saying that you can keep them in pods uh so and we know that elementary is pretty much a pod system where they stay in their classroom they go to their specials or their electives we're going to call those as pods first grade classroom goals as a first grade classroom that that may give us promise to get our k-5 students back full-time um completely and even though
057we're underneath those guidelines cdc is giving us some a little bit of leeway i think when you can keep them in a pod situation if you recall this year we did keep prairie knowles middle school and somewhat of a pod teacher shifted uh central middle school mid-june fairly early on about month end they weren't really liking that very much so we flipped it back to where students do still move at the eighth grade center those are discussions that we can have as well depending what we think is best for kids and for the staff i just think middle school and high school probably is a little bit closer to a hybrid model again next year versus what we might be able to do for elementary given what we're currently seeing from cdc which we believe
058idph will take some form of that i also think if we can get the information back from our parents through the survey it'll tell us where we're at this year we're about a 70 30 split about 70 percent of our our parents are choosing to bring students in house throughout the course of the week um and 30 are choosing to keep them at home so if it's the same split then we'll have to look at how that staffing pattern will lay out for us or hopefully maybe some parents are willing to have some of those students return next year um as i've got kind of rolling into then what does the quarter is one thing i'd like to say and we talked about this in ccc today there were several teachers who rightfully so and
059i fully support this advocating for what would it look like to have a more dynamic schedule next year right where we decided november i forget don't quote me on that but november that what we did for second semester needed to stay present for second semester and i just wanna you know you guys know and you know everybody who's listening and certainly as we've always said we will do what we can if it's feasible the shift with the dynamic nature of people coming in and out but that that was something that ryan certainly advocated for and i think we will do our best yes to make it as dynamic as is legitimately feasible again flexibility will be important but we have uh it's important that we remember that there's multiple things we have to get in
060place in order to be flexible absolutely uh so flexibility is one of the things that our teachers did ask for you're accurate especially when it comes to our special populations our language learners and some other students as well as chaining the schedule stream to allow for more students to come in and out so flexibility will be one of those things we look at um i think for the quarter 2df data some of the information here is very interesting what i'm presenting here which you have right beside you as well is side by side data so you're seeing quarter one data next to quarter two data as well as you're going to see some three year trend data because i think the trend data helps us see where we're at in terms of our our student
061population if you recall um we looked at grade marks per student the three represents an a just so you understand this means that means if we took all of our students that we have in high school and i said well of all the a's given each student would get about three a's because that's the best way i could calculate the the numbers for us and so when you look at this first one you're seeing the blue represents school year 2018-19 red is 1920 and 20 21 is in yellow and you're seeing a quarter one to quarter two comparison i think what's interesting here um you know kind of putting 20 21 aside you can see that consistently our a's went down quarter two so this isn't something that just happened because we are in this
062hybrid model this is just a historical kind of pattern that we have that where they were sitting in a's in quarter one you saw it dip naturally in quarter two as a matter of fact this year our students aren't dipping as much we're actually seeing more more a's than what we would have seen in 18 19 19 20. as you look at the b's you can see overall between quarter one we're sitting in that 207 213 1.67 respectively and when you look over at the quarter two data again you're seeing a little bit of a dip in the beast uh consistently in 1819 and you're seeing about a similar dip in the bees for our kids this year hybrid a little bit fewer bees but we always have fewer bees a little bit fewer bees
063this year than we've seen in the past and as you look you'll see they've slid down to c's d's and f's again quarter one c's are pretty consistent 0.8.9 they're really close in terms of all seas not too far off in any of the three years in quarter one in quarter two you see um a definite raise in the seas for 1920 but you see a a decline of c's in 2021 so those c's went to d's and f's you can kind of see that slide to the right uh when you look at your d's and f's as well you can see that overall we use it at 0.32 this year we're at a point four and quarter one uh that went up to a point four two in uh quarter two for d's and
064you can see our f's dramatically increased in quarter two from a point three five to a 0.52 so substantially more ups this year than we have seen in the in the past the next slide really represents a comparative between our remote students only and our hybrid students remember those remote students are not the students that are on the hybrid model they're the ones that are completely remote every single day they've selected remote only and when you look at the compare between quarter one and quarter two the students who are getting a's for the most part the remote students slipped um in quarter two as compared to what they were doing in quarter one um the student center hybrid pretty much maintained a little bit of a slide but not too far off for quarter two
065as compared to quarter one the bees in terms of where they're at again you see the remote students held tight pretty tightly you get a 0.06 differential but for our hybrid kids they slipped a little bit and then for our c's uh you can see they called pretty tight we had a .083 and .86 for remote hybrid and quarter one and both came in at 0.85 so very solid kind of sad the seas kind of stayed in our ds our hybrid students actually had uh fewer d's in quarter two i'm sorry more a little bit more of these in quarter two than they did in quarter one as well as our uh remote students but they're very very minimal i would consider those almost flat um and then your x definitely we saw an increase
066in both uh the remote and hybrid for quarter one to quarter two with a much larger percent increase well suppose about 0.2 for each or is the semester data for both of those first two graphs tonight semester their actual course they do not include any like a final grade if so many game finals uh we wanted to do a quarter to quarter it's their quarter two grand compared to the quarter one grade um so then we wanted to break it down a little bit further and how many of our students actually received uh multiple these it was interesting i was talking one of my building principles today about this so you can see if you see multiple of these not too bad historically if you look at 1819 1920 and 2021 let's just look at
067six d's generally speaking we don't have any students who are getting six d's uh in quarter one we now have one that was getting six d's in quarter two um we have three students in 1819 two in 1920 and one that was getting in 2021 for five d's and now you see we have that one that was in quarter one now we're up to three students that are getting five b's so you see a slide in the wrong direction there forties we had five students in 2021 in quarter one as compared to three and seven respectively and now we're at 11 uh students getting these uh with eight and twelve respectively in 1819 and 1920. just to clarify the data so the 89 people for two d's for the current school year are those included
068in the 230 yeah it's separate separate is all added for total students with 1d would be all that added up that's correct yep so historically you can see that we're not going in the right direction with the d's in 2021 uh again it's it's a tough year and so we have an increase in the number of students that are receiving them much larger we have 230 and quarter one so uh staff really know what an intervention would be brought forward but quarter one chs uh 230 kids have a d would that raise a red flag with a teacher to for cause to intervene with those students i think the challenge is that it's spread across like 1300 kids when you see across it but 230 kids if it's in the same class yes our building
069principals and our teachers our department chairs uh team leaders are all working to look at all these apps they look at it pretty frequently and they're consistently monitoring and intervening where they can it's much more difficult for our students who are in a remote only situation because there's a multitude of reasons why we can't reach those students um you know it's hard to get a hold of them sometimes sometimes they're not checking in sometimes they're not turning their computers on but they're not getting their face so the camera on so they could be turning signing in but then going off and doing it and going somewhere else for our in-class students our teachers are doing a really good job of trying to monitor and intervene using time before school after school during their planning time
070some teachers are utilizing that wednesday afternoons for our middle school high school making phone calls documenting those phone calls working with administration in some cases where academic advisors are trying to beef up in terms of how to intervene task resources at the middle school are being used where they're targeting directly students who might not be performing well in math or english or going directly to a math teacher's task time which is their study hall time or to an english teacher so they have direct time with that teacher so all of those are being utilized uh this year to try to intervene you talked to last month i think about the breakdown of the different departments right and different levels of english and math and social studies and so and talking about that they would have
071addressed that right as a team and things like that at the high school level specifically right we did have to give up some interventions this year just because of the schedule and the timing and some of those elements this year so some of those things we're trying to figure out after school programs uh to provide interventions for kids outside of the school day currently i know middle school is working on that the high school has not implemented anything like that yet but definitely our middle school has been working to get that implemented for third and fourth quarter this is a breakdown kind of morning your point jeff is is the remote students versus the hybrid students and you can see we have a higher percent of our remote students who have multiple d's as compared
072to hybrid students in both quarter one and quarter two the only place you see that differential is in 40s and 50s and we'd have to see who those students are specifically to figure out why they're hybrid and still getting those kinds of d's some of those are attendance issues they're not showing up and coming to school but those kind of parlay back to you know how how are we intervening inside of our school uh doors with those kids that are hybrid remembering that they're coming to school face to face two days a week and they're at home three days a week same thing we have the same data with our f's when you can take a look at the chs quarter one students with fs versus chs quarter two students with fs you can see
073the same number of students basically in 2021 a quarter one and quarter 22 kids with one half 121 kids with one f you can start to see the two f's is dramatically increased in quarter 2. for whatever reason we had 38 26 and 39 in 18 19 19 20 20 21. now we've got 50 55 and 65 with two d's uh three our three sorry two fs 3x has increased we're at 23. uh in quarter one we're now at uh 36 so you can see again that slide is coming to the right of that graph so we have to figure out what's going on uh historically we can see you know that's kind of the trend that we had when we looked at this initially second quarter two is a little tougher uh we would
074expect that right quarter one is a lot of review sometimes it's constant it's material they've already seen the year before half of it's probably doing some of that data quarter two is usually picking up brand new content some of those newer concepts that uh teachers have to teach and students have to learn part of that could be that dip you see in quarter two naturally that we see historically in quarter two anyway but dramatically we're seeing a pretty good increase here between quarter one to quarter two in terms of those numbers and then uh this is the chs quarter one students with x in remote versus hybrid um and you can see for the one f we're almost dead on with the remote to hybrid and quarter two as compared to what we were with
075the x in quarter one um you see a dramatic increase in the number of x for our hybrid kids in both for two hours in both the remote and hybrid so again it's slipping to the to the right uh which is not the direction we want to go so we have to figure out what's going on in quarter two if his uh kids are just shutting down or what's happening but we're definitely seeing a slide in the wrong direction next is cms we've got the same breakdowns for cms and for corey knows middle school in cms between quarter one and quarter two again you can see that 1819 1920 and then 2021 for our ace they were pretty solidly 3.6 to 3 and a half we had a fewer number of a's there's fewer than
076what we've seen in the past so we would expect that number to be lower as we continue to go through our bees consistently have been fairly consistent uh 1890 was in a little higher group but otherwise they're sitting right in that 1.7 range our seas are a little bit higher as they're going through they've just kind of been ticking up each year these i would call that fairly consistent a little bit higher this year but very minimal but our f's were up this year as compared to what historically we've seen in 1819 and 1920. same thing when you look at quarter two three point six seven eighteen nineteen then you can see where we're at in four or two so historically they've they stayed the same and the 1819 group may have just been a
077higher achieving group in general i don't know that student body but you can see overall they look like they have high a's they slipped a little bit in quarter two which is what we'd expect with new content just a tad bit of a slip there and then you're seeing a slippage again and almost parallel off a little bit less of a slip than what you would have seen in 1920 quarter one to quarter two same thing for bees uh you can see a pretty standard uh 1.71 2024 1 1.72 for quarter two so they stayed pretty solid there pretty solid in your seas from 0.79 to 0.75 for this year um a little bit of an active up up tick indeeds very minimal and a little bit uptick in fs as well uh in quarter
078two so again a little bit of a slide to the right but not near what we've seen uh in the previous slides dms quarter one um remote to hybrid you can see that the hybrid students are performing a little bit better but pretty dead on with ace uh in terms of that uh in terms of your v's not too much for slippage actually your b's are up a little bit in quarter two as compared to quarter one um and your remote students slipped a little bit as compared to your they were they were at quarter one it your c's again are 0.78 to 0.88 so your remote students are getting more seized than they did in quarter one and your hybrid are getting a little bit less in terms of the c so um and
079they did not slip which is good their ds are 0.25 a little bit of a slippage to 0.3 suddenly 0.25.25 in quarter three point three in quarter two and then you can see the asterisk up a little bit and the hybrid and they're up uh just a little bit less in the remote students cms quarter one stores with these again this is the historical context from 1819 1920 to 2021. uh you can see this year we have a lot more d's than we have historically in the past 22 to 24 historically to 39 and quarter one good news is we were 39 to 32 in terms of 1d but we picked them up when you start looking at multiples uh at the end you can see the numbers from 10 to 14 8 to 12
0802d 3ds so you can see we're picking up again a little bit of a slide to the right again dms quarter one students with ds uh remote versus hybrid uh you can see hybrid students were outperforming them in quarter one we're pretty much a dead race in quarter two between hybrid and remote students for two days again we're almost ident race in quarter two as compared to quarter one in three ds we have fewer three d's so students are performing better in the hybrid than what they would be in their remote because we went from 3ds in quarter 1 to 1.3 per student to almost four in three days and for the 40s you can see we slid a little bit into the hybrid getting multiple d's and cms quarter one students with fs good
081news is they were at a one f of 20 in quarter one and they've taken that way down to uh only ten students uh so we've seen a nice um fix there but we have to ask yourself where they went and unfortunately you can see they slipped to the right so our numbers are up as they move from 2x from 6 to 11 uh 3s from 2 to 6. 4s was down 1 5s was up 2 and 6f's were up 2. so again a slide to the right uh so we need to be looking at what's going on there and then cms quarter one students absent uh versus the quarter two for remote hybrids and you can see that um hybrid is weighing outperforming now in terms of one f uh but the problem is
082when you get to two f's they were higher in quarter one uh now they're at 3.42 they were at 1.92 uh three f's uh we only had point three eight or not one point nine four ounce we were at point seven we're at point seven six five f's we're at point three eight we're not point seven six and now we have uh six f's we didn't have any students with that and now we do we're at point seven six so let's shift to the right and then we have any data that shows that to say somebody with six f's or something like that is even showing up success uh could be an attendance probably is an attendance issue i know the students i talked about today with one of the building principles was an attendance
083issue the student has missed about 29 days so far and when you miss 29 days not doing your work it's usually academic behaviors uh they're just not doing any work at all they're disengaged whether they're coming or not whether they're at home doesn't matter we're just not getting any work out of them unfortunately when we get to middle school it becomes a failure rate where they have to be retained uh so we don't socially promote and so they'd either be forced to do summer school and or a failure and have to repeat the grade level and i think that you know usually it doesn't come to realization for students in middle school to about the fourth quarter where they recognize that we're actually serious that we will hold and retain students back because we can't
084move them forward in their academics because they've missed too much content so usually you see a upswing when it comes to fourth quarter um i've not really looked at this quarter over quarter till this year where i've looked at the historical so we'll be interested to see what happens in third quarter my guess is again you're going to probably see somewhat of a slide it's all a brand new material um so we'll see where we're at and then fourth quarter they recognize that you know they're going to be in some academic trouble and so then usually you see a big uptick for those students who were failing um because there's you know the risk of being retained so our counselors like reach out to them try to do like video meetings or virtual meetings with
085parents and things like that not so much the counselors as it has been either the classroom teachers for each one of the content areas and or administration or both uh usually it's a classroom teacher working with them trying to intervene over time if they can't get a response they go their administration and the administration is assisting them and trying to get some input with the the parents uh pkms is the next one i'm going to just let you guys walk through it's going to be reading each one if you want to if you have any questions you can let me know do we know is this data that let's say our other mid-valley schools are aggregating that you don't know of anybody that's doing this to just plan but their percentage of students right at
086these levels that are having similar uh grades yes so i i belong to a curriculum group that's suburbian for high school districts they we don't have a whole group for elementary although it is a common problem across the region everybody is seeing an uptick in the number of students failing it's very challenging especially for the students that are not making any connections with the teachers so definitely apps are up if you read anything across the nation this is a common problem for all i still believe we're doing a way far better job than any of our neighbors uh than anybody else you know i think that when we look at even our fast bridge data that's coming out we're seeing good growth with our students so whether entered in the fall what we saw in
087the winter and i'm sure we're going to see in the spring we're seeing good growth metrics so it's not that the students aren't learning or growing they definitely are it's just that it's it's a very difficult year and i think it's difficult when you're only seeing them two days a week and you're trying to get them you know they're not here three days a week or they're not seeing them at all to try to keep them connected and engaged and inspired uh to learn so i'm probably asking this maybe two months too early but what is the fall gonna look like because i did happen to flip through the pk data and it does seem like it was much higher when you talk at d's and f's um compared to previous years the biggest swing
088i noticed and i don't know part of that is just getting used to middle school versus elementary you have so many different factors but you're talking about a community and i mean we're leaps ahead of everybody i work with and their kids and being in class just the two days a week but how do you come back in the fall and recoup and get kids back all grounded and just from an education standpoint i mean they're gonna all love being in school i'm sure i hear that all the time students love being in school now there's no i don't want to go but just the level setting from an education is does that get addressed differently in the fall or yeah i think i think that our teachers continue to talk about what's the essential
089standards what do they believe are the most important standards to move forward their progression all the teachers will you know they know where their students are faltering and the holes that are left behind the fastbridge data which is the data that we use to assess uh holes for students where students are at and if they're meeting the mark of the standards that we have by grade level uh when we desegregate that and we look at that by student we can see holes we get reports by students so we can see where those holes are at so it's going to be how do we intervene with that part of our conversation at ccc tonight was about what does summer school look like you know do we need to be offering summer school and retention do we
090need to be offering summer school enrichment do we need to be offering summer school and some stem type stuff for some of those students that are doing really well because we do have some students who are doing really really well um are they gonna be burnt out are our teachers burnt out is anybody gonna be willing to do this so those were conversations we had at uh curriculum council tonight um i think it's about trying to stay with each student meeting them where they're at if any time we hear about personalized learning or how do we meet each student where they're at that's the challenge of how do we get there one of our big initiatives this year is to teach learning targets which is focused on specific student outcomes to make sure that we
091understand what should a student know when they walk out of that door each day parents are seeing that in their weekly weeks at a glance i believe our teachers are doing a phenomenal job um i think that they're they for the most part they are doing everything they can do given the situation we're under and i would i personally would put our teachers up against anybody in terms of how we're performing i think it's a nationwide problem you know you read it everywhere i don't know that there's a quick answer i wish there was we should be waiting around and say hey everybody's going to be okay i think we have to recognize every kid's going to have holes yeah how do we fill those holes what's the best way to adjust our curriculum how
092do we go back and plug those holes to make sure that we continue to move our students forward um and that'll be the work that we need to do with some of the committee work and as we've looked at some of the data there are certain students who are actually thriving in a remote learning environment however the vast majority of our students thrive in the hybrid thriving being in person on being at school so to the greatest extent possible we want to be able to to open up our schools and that's why we're hoping that king county health department the idph is being continues to look at that they look at the research and how the trend debt is going which has been going very well and that hopefully things continue to change for a
093possible full reopening but based on the current cdc guidance yeah unless something changes i don't see that at this time but we follow kane county health guide right right okay well cdc establishes policy but then the individual states through their own public health departments have to adapt so we fall under idph so do the the recommendations from uh from uh kane county differ from surrounding county they could be so um one of the things that the cdc recently did was they said you could shorten the length of your quarantine period if you were exposed and then you had an rt-pcr test within so many days after exposure and then you could potentially come back early kent county health department did not adopt those standards so our quarantine period is still the 14-day period you can
094test out a quarantine in king county there there are schools within our state that are bringing all students back you know that that's not a false statement most of them are much smaller districts that are either you know somewhere more south of us uh most suburban schools are not and they're saying they're bringing back 100 we've yet to find and we'll look at these that we receive tonight but we've yet to find anybody back in suburban or a larger district that can bring their students back there's just not the capacity of rooms of space of the guidelines that are established to bring them back full time unless you break the six foot distancing on top of that the transportation issue of trying to get them on school buses creates a problem uh so until we
095get any kind of shift to that it's going to be very very difficult to be able to to bring their back an example of one district example of one district i was told that they have their seniors their juniors and their seniors um five days a week in attendance so when i looked into it and investigated to see how it was done well yes it's true their seniors and their juniors are in attendance five days a week but their freshman and their sophomores are remote there has to be whatever plan is going to work for us right for your district we have what 70 30 roughly 70 any hybrid thirty percent remote correct so if more wanted chose remote we can allow better attendance or higher attendance to school basically and if more selected remote
096i mean our our hope is that we get the guidance that says we can bring them back by pod which we've already gotten from cdc idph has not accepted that yet if they bring that back then i think you could bring back uh elementary full-time uh if that's what we so desire you just couldn't get middle school and high school back because they don't function the schedule doesn't function as a group of classroom or pods just just to clarify because i mean i've read a lot of this the last few weeks about people saying well these people these people do that is it a question of resource or is it a question of willingness is there anything else that we haven't done that we could have done to bring more people back to school unless
097we could get unless we get by it could get 10 or 11 more schools of our current size or you know seven more schools where we have the size right now then we could do it we just own the classroom space right now we have teachers who are rotating we remote thank god we remote teachers at home right we don't have classrooms for those remote teachers inside our doors um so i think there's some challenges there when you start to parse out the six feet distancing it challenges us to do that we have spent lots of resources some of the carriage dollars that were questioned we have not received the million dollars first off that is the targeted dollar we should be getting it still has not been confirmed and it keeps shifting we had
098394 thousand dollars that we started with with the kirus dollars that went into mitigating factors that went into sanitation that went into additional uh staffing so i don't want those kinds of things um we're actually investing what three million dollars yes so our resource we've used district resources to help us mitigate issues currently um to help us do what we need to do so it's not a matter of resources and we've been successful yeah absolutely yeah right okay and are we are we in terms of next year's next year right in the autumn right i mean are we still thinking there'll be a hybrid element to school i do think there will be a hybrid elementary school when you look at the the cdc guidelines that just came out the todd printed on the bottom
099of that of um it's very clearly says anticipated so if you want to read the cdc guidance we just received now whether idph will give us some additional i think they recognize elementary we should get back full time the research shows elementary does not have the risk of spreading like middle school and high school do middle school and high school do just because of athletics and they're going outside and they're doing participating in other things outside the doors of a school at the bottom time yeah it reads even after teachers and staff are vaccinated schools need to continue mitigation measures for the foreseeable future including requiring mass in school and physical distancing so the caveat for the cdc is because of that pod dynamic of a classroom at the elementary school they're looking at that
100as a as a factor that plays into that because middle school students and high school students are moving around and they're not staying in that type of pod environment that's why they're saying right now they're laying towards hybrid but that's right now as of february 16th you know we'll see where they're at in april we'll see where they're at in june how frequently relaxing restrictions we're doing based on a weekly conversation right yeah it's just i mean every week i question about like what else can we do you know how else can we get you know more kids back in school i mean we're doing our part we're we're following all the steps that they've asked us to follow we've been successful now let's start bringing more people back and and seeing how it works
101out well ideally next year in your survey you're going to push out next week for the same three questions we posed or would it just be a in person or remote would you because the survey we're pushing out is basically explaining kind of where we're at explaining that we really need to look at staffing patterns and we do not know how we're coming back we do not know right we haven't done our work yet but in anticipation and to see how many parents would actually choose to do could continue to use remote learning we need that number and so it's really just looking for who wants to go remote next year who thinks they're going to go next year versus who believes they'll come back face to face to see if we're still at a
10270 30 split 80 20 90 10 so we can plan and then it would be by grade level so that we have um we can figure out what we might need for buy grain um i i know that i know for sure that there's some families that would be more comfortable coming back now that we're hybrid but knowing now that staff is being vaccinated and receiving that because they've reached out to me that they would be more comfortable coming back now and you anticipate the number to go up i guess my question was would you still do a hybrid thing or would distancing i believe we could get real close to everybody coming back and then you know obviously the union would need to agree but if if you could just go to normal scheduling
103and have the two categories of students i mean that would be ideal my preference would be bring everybody back right but if you they're just saying that you need a hybrid you could do remote but not have this two or three days everybody is either in school or at home that my preference would be everybody is in school or remote correct yeah okay because i think we're gonna have to do remote again we would need to have agreement to do those types of things we'd have to offer it but we wouldn't yeah we don't know yet yeah okay two or six months people it's too early but look how much has changed to your point in six weeks that's the point right so it brings up the pendulum i mean we're thinking about scheduling but
104things change quickly so a month from now it could be i think by so um we did attach just information the board packet the facilities work summary for the month of january you can see the number of tickets that were that occurred different buildings it's not you shouldn't be surprised that the high school had the greatest number of tickets to 22 because it's the largest building by far what you're going to see as you flip through the data is that the tickets were fulfilled either one day or two days there was one anomaly at country trails elementary school where it took like three days to fulfill the ticket but that's because when they put in the the ticket order it went to an employee who was absent and so then when it was caught oh
105that employee's absent it was re redistributed to someone else and it was taken care of right away so our maintenance crews our custodial crews continue to be very responsive and are doing a great job for us we received two foias um smart procure which the board is very familiar with which deals with the past six months of purchasing information we received this one on a regular basis um our business manager uh dana flug has an excel file set up so that she can just transfer that data we're able to respond to that and then the illinois retired teacher association requested the names and emails of retiring staff this year and we were able to share that information with them as well and that's their name in their work email that personal contact information all right
106that's it for open session um motion and second to adjourn the closed session some seconds
