I guess after the Martian chart um just exactly what you said ten companies were sent information two of them were new to us this year four companies turned in bids the the bottom three the lowest bidders we're all within $500 of each other so it was really really really close this year so that's always nice to see yeah Lauren company oil company was the winner they they were the lowest price bidder and then you should have all the summary recaps and then it looks like we gave you last year's information as well was there anything that was surprising in the total cost from this no it's pretty typical year after year it's the same there's it was there were the two new people that we added only one of them actually submitted so it was

kind of weird that someone was reaching out and didn't turn anything in so I don't know if they didn't know where we were located and but yeah it's interested it's nice to see that we really get at least you know four so we have some comparison and and the fact that they were so so close it's it's sad for the the losers but [Music] yes yes yes yes I need a motion with a permit for next year for 2020 2021 the people said was sent out to seven different companies we did have we received bids from three companies Varitek paper was the lowest responsible bidder and they they won the bid by 135 dollars that's how close it was companies gave us two options option a and option B option a is another regular print

white paper option me it was a paper that contain more pulp and turn color over time but since we have to maintain records for so long it made sense to stay with option a how much how much paper did we have left as a reason for not being willing little nine weeks they still have quite a bit of paper left that's why this order is so much smaller like this total order is 47,000 where last year's paper order was over 70,000 okay it was the supply this last year last year pen wasn't a midland paper corporation that had the bid yes last year was Midland it seems like we go back between quite a bit yeah and we've been happy with both companies we've even been happy with with even a couple of companies we

haven't bid but would have received the bid previous years so but Midland is typically Midland imperative seem to be the two most competitive recently any other questions from yes Hansen yes yes yes babe yes Gorman yes thanks to my second record to discuss and improve the Mid Valley special education classroom use of agreements this is an annual resolution that we've got to sternly have more information of us as president Berman said this is an annual resolution the the cost of the rental space for our various buildings what we pay each other we're all members of the co-operative so it does it has not changed in years it's the same exact fee that we're going to receive for the use of our classrooms at Central High School for Knowles that we received last year and by

the same token earth on what we're paying and to use the rooms and other school districts and apartment family will be the same as dwell all right I don't think there's any question so Johnson yes number yes Nolan yes you know yes babe yes yes yes all right last action item we need a motion and second to discuss and approve the resolution to modify graduation requirements for the 2019 to 2020 school year to align with the emergency rules established by is B so moved second second well the resolution is included in your board packet and dr. Magan was working with her legal counsel to get that together dr. Mannion do you have anything else to share regarding this resolution the resolution only pertains to our 12th grade students we did not make adjustments for other

grades all of the state required courses for the second semester of the 12th grade year based on the governor's executive order what if it gets in the way of kids graduate plan on graduating in December is there any allowance given to that for juniors that plan to graduate next year for December correct we have not made an allowance for that through this resolution oh look at that for next year if we have students that have and impede them yeah I just I know we it's not a ton but again for those who it might affect kids plan ahead for that usually so thank you any other questions for us sir yes yes dancin yes yes we have a few things information will try to create a video clip that highlights areas for curvy to celebrate

attempted to streamline our communication with hbt staff members through canvas by creating a one-stop shop for staff members to receive important information schedules documents and forms guided reading a differentiation based upon conversations held at the admin and building level on guided reading in small group instruction in ela we determined that it was important for us to focus on differentiation to help accomplish this task can you ensure that we're meeting our students instructional needs we ask teachers to closely monitor the progress their students were making the united reading this practice helped us determine what students were continuing to make progress and which students could possibly benefit from reaching or an intervention math instruction this school year saw the rollout of our new math resource Manton focus our teachers receive valuable monthly professional development from our new

math instructional coaches this school year our teachers began placing emphasis on utilizing concrete abstract and pictorial models during their math instruction our teachers benefited from receiving additional math manipulatives to use to help teach concepts to their students during math teachers also included numbered talks and focus boards as part of their math instruction to help them visualize the concepts being done to them data meeting structure this school year our data review meetings were revamped to include time for teachers to meet individually with the hbt admin and student services team to discuss student progress and focus on Tier one support and differentiation teachers appreciated having the opportunity to have focused conversations on student growth classroom behavior and expectations bathroom behavior and expectations continue to be an outgoing focus at HBT we have seen positive trends and behavior

by utilizing incidents such as our twister tickets and are terrific twister certificates to recognize students fall under school-wide expectations next full year we are excited to begin using the stored behavior framework which stands for structure teach expectations observe interact positively and correct fluently as a Tier one intervention across the board for all of our students looking towards the 2020 2021 school year our teachers will be uploading common assessments for all subject areas and grade levels into BYOC who will not be updating curriculums open sequence a notice will also be moving towards in ESS an interventional model that addresses both academics and social emotional learning unique to hbt this year we celebrate a Grandparents Day in September and welcomed over 400 excited grandparents to spend time with our students pennies for pumpkins each school year our

second great diamond perches Thurston a stone to decorate a pumpkin based upon their favorite storybook character and the pumpkins are displayed and they can earn a penny per quote based upon their popularity the money is then collected for a fundraiser then donated to an hbt family in need we have a close relationship with the Burlington Fire Department and after spending a week with our students they give a special 5th grade or fifth graders a ride and home would simplify the hbt care code a huge shoutout goes to the HVT staff and since a 301 transportation department for their communication and collaboration as we survived the communication of the route the construction of the roundabout rerouting 14 buses was no small feat for sure and lastly during this unprecedented time I think we all have learned

that school is much more than a building it's the people inside it and the magic that occurs through interaction that make HPT a special place to work and learn thank you for letting us share a little bit about HPT all have an open invitation to come and visit us anytime thank you and let's go twisters thank you for in suppo jar you're welcome any questions all right you have a great evening thanks - thank you my business manager who's proposing that we work with Nadia Energy advisors so more information for us on that I'm just a little recap of kind of how I came across this I was watching a bunch of webinars on all this kovat stuff and the these people had done a presentation I reached out to the Kane CSB OHS and

West Aurora actually did use this vendor for theirs and saved them over 600,000 for the next three years so I I set up a meeting with her and director Paula way we listened to her Nana's their pitch and basically they're an independent contractor and they facilitate electricity and natural gas pits for schools and for other other people but the lady Becky she is the one that handles schools and basically this the service is like a Bay in Reverse we're on eBay you you try to get a high bid and whoever it has the highest bid is what you saw - this one is whoever has the lowest bid so they'll seek out sealed bids from suppliers and then give us kind of a price range for the price to beat and then from there they'll

invite all the license appliers in the state of Illinois not just the few that reach out to me so our pool of participants will be increased then they you select the date and the time to perform like a lot of this live auction which was completely transparent it's time-stamped and anybody who wants to watch can watch so for about 20 minutes suppliers will see what the price to beat is and then they can submit multiple bids to reduce their margins to try to win our business typically 10 to 14 suppliers participate savings can be anywhere from 5% to 10% I'm hoping for more Nonya is paid directly from the supplier so basically tonight and in the in the package you'll see all the information of the information that they had sent to us and kind

of getting approval to allow them to perform the service for us at our next board meeting I'll ask for permission to allow either myself or dr. stern to accept a low bid from the live auction if all of our thresholds are met and then our next board meeting is June 15 so on June 16th if this is all good we will hold that live auction and then lock in our price and hopefully we can lock in at a lower rate than what are what it might be in the fall our electricity is not up until November I just want to kind of capitalize on the savings that we can hopefully get now before stuff starts happening in the future so that's great anybody have any questions for Dale all right well thank you go or

so and well just one more thing of Westar I was way bigger than us so their savings is gonna be a lot more than what we would I mean we don't even spend six hundred thousand ours I ask genoa Kingston kind of does this for their natural gas and they said that they saved them about twenty thousand so if we kind of compare ourselves to Genoa's size it could be you know fifteen twenty twenty-five thousand dollars in savings hopefully so all right thanks we have an update on remote learning dr. Magan when you share some results of your survey so before I share the results the survey report nakid should be I'm summarizing the survey in addition to the actual colored slides that you could take a look at but part of that I just

want to give a shout out to the translation Department our paraprofessionals and our administration for successfully actually doing the bag tag and drop for all of our buildings were able to clean all lockers including the gym lockers in one day with our paraprofessionals at our transportation and then load them on school buses and have them delivered the next day overall we receive very minimal complaints we just had one or two regarding some projects that may have gotten crushed but otherwise for the most part we had great success in the bag tag and drop so kudos to him and her team in transportation they did a really great job our administration our paraprofessionals who assisted us and getting that stuff safely home to our students the summary of survey results partly what we wanted to do

as we wanted to hold learning in a attempt to have a good vision on what we're doing wild areas that we could work on for instructional practices as well as assisting our parents and our students we did a survey week one and then we gave the exact same survey in week four to see how we are adapting and what the changes that we try to shift administrative Lea and talking with teachers how do we perform overall in the summer you'll see that for the most part communication is being seen as a very positive for both teaching staff and for the district in general in terms of appearance we're on the high 90s in terms of the three fours and fives for both week one and week two we did go down 2.5% in week four

I think partially because of the grading process and trying to figure out how we were going about attempting to do the grading for all three different levels elementary middle school and high school overall for the responding parents approximately 70% of the responding parents felt that work is sign was just right during week one and it dropped a little bit to 64% in week four partly I'm wondering if that so they're getting frustrated with trying to figure this all out before kids it started lose motivation and we're trying to keep them going on something we definitely want to take a look at we saw a 5% shift moved to from the just right - too much work so parents were starting to feel like maybe we're handing out too much work by week four so something

we want to take a look at in the event that we continue in the remote learning process for the Fall response time was one of the things we wanted to make sure we had good response time to parents and to students from our staff it showed that we had a game from week 1 to week 4 about two-thirds of our parents felt that response within 24 hours and week 1 up to 72 percent of parents receiving responses in week 4 we saw a good game there as well and then consistently across all groups we sought the most used learning tools that we currently utilize where we put a lot of our dollars into and trainings into was canvas Google email and any Google product that we have whether they be Docs sheets slides the Google

meets in terms of face to face and canvas conferencing one of the challenges that our parents really saw and they were facing is really dealing with time management and establishing those routines at home trying to complete the assignments along with their students without having to help them they felt that there are unfair expectations for assignments and understanding the assignments and how the assignments would be graded however all these categories did see a positive decrease from week 1 to week 4 so we did make a large adjustment administrative ly to make contact with staff members and it did look like it paid off as we saw that we had a nice decrease in those areas in the middle school high school survey we also did students in middle school in high school and then students in

grades three through five the students grade through through five there wasn't much difference between what they gave us and what the parents gave us or I did not do a large summary there for the school high school overall they felt the communication was better in week one than it was in week four we dropped slightly there but we were still fairly high about 90% in the three four and five category again the amount didn't work did shift from being just right in terms of percentage to too much from week one to week two but very very slightly about 1.3 percent and then the response rate for students we have a 10% increase within 24 hours between week 1 and week 4 so we got a much better response very coming from our teachers to our

students as we moved along with in the remote learning process so that was good to see and again the students faced challenges in certain areas where the largest decreases we saw was time management and establishing routines unclear expectations for assignments understand the assign understanding how science will be graded but the largest challenge decrease for students was understanding how size will be graded then a decrease of 22.8 again that was an area of focus for our administration to work with their staff to help students understand how assignments were going to be graded and we saw that about 25 miles to 25 percent decrease so students felt that they were getting a good clean understanding of that by week for the educator survey for week four our respondents were only 129 students in the first one we

had well over 350 so almost half a little bit less than half percent the students are the educators respondent overall though we did see improved confidence levels of teachers teaching in the remote learning environment I definitely increased between week 1 and week 4 for both lesson design and student engagement and how they are feeling confident regarding that as well as how they were feeling confident to assist their own peers in the remote learning process and then when actually improved by about 15 percent in terms of feeling more comfortable helping their own peers an area that decreased and our teachers were filling was the area of support and collaboration however this one we may need to get a little bit more feedback not what it is they felt they needed in terms of support and that

collaboration piece what was shifting they're already at 10% lost there which of course we we don't want see that and then the area of learning new skills in terms of technology but in instructions increase substantially by about twelve point six percent so feeling much much more comfortable in this environment which is good to know in terms of if we end up going at the same rate in the fall the area of biggest challenge for our teachers is really how do we help get that child engagement up and what can we do to really help them be engaged in that learning process we saw nine point four percent increase from week one and week four in the area of this so it's definitely something we need to consider it as we look to move into the

fall and we look to say if we don't end up coming back how do we help with that engagement and making sure that we're getting students engaged in that process but overall I think we saw some pretty good gains and surveys any questions regarding the process of remote learning or anything that you yourself experienced as parents I just hope they revamp the whole remote learning mandate I mean it student engagement can go up if the students know they have to do it I think that would immediately help things and yeah it's just the common sense thing is you know if teachers are required to do X and X students will be more engaged everything will be everyone will be helped with to a greater accountability I guess that's one of my well I think the

idea and obviously we were all flying by the seat of our pants but I really think that the board and administration in conjunction with our curriculum folks and our building administrators we need to come up as we think about you know figuring out how as we you know roll into contract like what are we going to do if we're in this begin for a whole semester for goodness sake we can't say just do your best and if you try it's something you pass so how do we have a different level of accountability all levels at the administrator level the teacher level support level parent levels to student level and I think that's going to be the biggest challenge here I'm still optimistic if we move to phase 3 in JUnit there's a good chance we'll

be able to come start the school year in person even if we do that I think we're more likely to you know have more days in the class in that school altogether than if we start out of it but we need to have a pretty solid plan different than what we did this last nine weeks far as requirements and firm expectations I think what we found was the the more we had face-to-face instruction whether it be through Google meets or some kind of direct instruction of the teacher giving a lesson and then actually staying there for questions the more engagement where you seek so that will be an important element that we work with our union folks to try to get that opportunity for us and to be very clear I don't we are not

in the minority with that I mean you know with the districts of students that I come into contact with and surely you know you guys are the building level in your communication with other schools I mean I have you know my girls had at least two meetings a week in second grade from hbt they chose to participate at times we did not participate that was a choice that we made as parents because they're not comfortable on camera but they weren't doing any teaching right it was all just kind of checking in so how do we do the synchronous learning and and but that is the same as every other district my parents who have kids in all levels and our area especially Mid Valley districts who have not had any direct communication with video with

their teachers quite common to not have been any communication that's correct and I think we did a good job in terms of after we saw our survey results from week one we did revamp and worked with teachers and administration and I do think we saw a good increase in the number of video or face-to-face more connection for purpose of instruction not for just checking in especially real school already well thanks for those results of the putting all that together dr. Milligan I'm trying to straighten out my neck to go on to the next information item we have summer capital projects update director Paolo is on the line I believe yeah good evening the major updates that we talked about months ago was our paving projects which because of the situation we have been able to

begin at Prairie Knowles and the district office pending some dry weather will be able to continue with those the weathers can have been hampering the starts to those but well those will be ongoing projects and then after we close out the school probably early June we'll begin with the Central High School Central Middle School and Howard be Thomas lots got our plans and coordinating with transportation those lots started will continue with a lot of our other painting and flooring upgrades and updates that we do annually we'll be adding some the blood resistive film to the East Side schools that's slated to be done this summer and just various other small projects but definitely the paving project is our is our priority for the summer is there any questions about anything thanks Dan thank you alright

that wraps up our open session and you know motion in a second to adjourn to go into executive session hello decade dual return after we complete executive session board members we can take like a five-minute break and look up thank you you
