001in the previous video we took a look at editing your pre-existing posts if you remember we talked a bit about categories and tags in this video I'll go over tags and categories on WordPress its first important to understand what categories and tags are categories are the specific categories you have on your website that your posts can fall under categories are created by you and when creating a post you'll decide what category that post fits into categories are a great way to sort the posts on your website into related groups tags however are short keywords that summarize your post using tags a visitor can view all posts containing the same tags on your WordPress site tags are again created by you for each article depending on your theme tags will appear in a different area on
002each post for example using this 2017 themed tags appear at the bottom of the post to access the categories and posts pages go to the post sub panel on the left side here you'll see you have the option to click either categories or tags the category sub panel is where you add edit or delete categories if you remember categories can also be added when the new Bost is created on this page you can create a new category create a new slug set a parent category or write a description a parent category allows you to set up a category hierarchy for example you can have a category called news and a sub category called technology news you would set the news category to be the parent category setting a category to a parent category allows a
003user to find that post from the set category as well as the parent category like the Edit post menu the bulk edit menu allows you to bulk edit categories in addition to categories each post can have their own individual tags to help with sorting like I said earlier tags are a simple one or two word summary of your post you can add as many of these as you like to your post these tags allow your visitors to access all of the hosts containing those same tags tags can be set from the tag sub panel page or when creating a new post on the tag sub panel page there is also a search option as you'll likely have many tags across all of your posts on your WordPress site and now you have a better understanding
