001in our video about customizing the theme we briefly went over the navigation menu and how it functions on your site in this video we'll be taking a more in-depth look at the menu and how to customize it we'll also be going over how to add a social links menu for use with your various social media accounts such as Twitter Facebook and Instagram so let's begin we can head to the menus sub panel underneath the appearance section of the dashboard here is where you can create and manage the menus for your site first give your menu a name and then hit create menu our theme WordPress 2017 supports two menus a primary navigation menu at the top of your site and a social links menu which I'll get to in just a little bit under menu
002settings you can choose where the display location will be I'll choose top menu for this one that we just created now let's add some pages to our menu WordPress automatically provides a list of all the most recent added pages of our site I'll select them all and add them to the menu once the pages are added much like widgets you can reorder the items or customize some Advanced Options you can also add links to individual blog posts or even custom links another option to add is categories which lets you choose categories of posts to be featured in the menu as well it's sometimes a good idea to set categories as sub pages which will appear as drop-down menu items to do this simply drag the category underneath the page and then drag it a bit
003to the right to ensure that it becomes that sub page once you're happy with your custom menu hit the Save button and we can go take a look on our live preview as I said earlier this theme includes a social links menu but keep in mind not all themes do support this I'll be creating a new custom menu but I'll be using the customizer this time I'll name this menu social links and then I'll add items to it as custom links for each custom link add the URL address for each social profile such as Twitter Facebook and Instagram once your links are added make sure to hit save and publish and don't forget to set the social links menu to the social links location if we take a look at the social links menu you'll
