001this is that easy Graham coming to you with another video we're gonna be showing you the new WordPress 5.0 and the new editor comes with to start with we just want to say a couple things before we actually get into the video I've showing you the new editor itself we just want to let you know that the wordpress 5.0 upgrade is available and you're probably seen that the top of your dashboard if you haven't already or in your upgrade screen when you're going to check for your upgrades one thing to note before you actually install the 5.0 version is that many themes and plugins that feature more of the page builder type of content don't actually work with the 5.0 yet so you'll definitely want to check with your plugin before actually going through and
002installing this if you're not sure whether or not it will or will not work with it and you want to try it out we'd recommend to make sure to do a full on backup of your site if you have our site backup service then we create daily backups for you in which case you wouldn't need to have a backup or on our business plan provided with you for you if you need the backup service and you're not sure how to build it you can actually add our backup services dollar 50 a month and you can just drop that in there or you can contact us someone we can help you with any kind of backups if you're not sure how to create them and then go from there but make sure you do have a
003backup first before going through this it's a good idea whenever you make change the wordpress in general but want to make sure that if you don't like the block editor and you still want to upgrade to WordPress by porno there is also a classic editor plugin which we repress them salts have produced so you can easily download that and switch back to the older classic editor if you wish they have said it will be available until 2021 so it's gonna be around for quite a while if you do want to use it then you have for the beach builder currently will be updated eventually so you can always check on the updates and then try to skim later if not now just with any software upgrade you may find bugs or other things showing up
004here it is brand new so do keep that in mind if you find it maybe not working the way you expect or maybe as you find online so you will definitely see updates coming to this and coming weeks definitely probably coming days the patches so we're gonna get into this now and actually show you about it first of all we've actually installed the plastic editor plugin just to kind of show you what it is you can actually switch between these if you have them you can go into your settings and you can find this under the writing section and you'll find the option for default editor here between the classic in the block editor you can also allow people to switch things on or off if you want and after you make any changes you
005can just go ahead and click on yes and other goes from and do it in this case we're going to be showing you through the page here and we're just gonna go to add new page and then here you can be able to see the new editor itself so you can see here it's very different layout than the older side already right away and see it comes up with the add title which used to be the bar across the top in this case we can just type in whatever title want we're just gonna go with a test title and with that here we've now got the page title created and you can as it says start writing something the way this works is in a block format where if you can highlight over the title
006here you'll see it's got a square already set up for it if we set up another item or just click on the plus symbol and you can choose what you want it'll have the most user icons here you can see already which are common lunch you'll see you like paragraph a major heading C there's also other options like a gallery and audio option files if you actually shrink that down you can see all the different sections here at the most-used group or actually just broken up from all these other areas you'll see there is the helpful little embed option if you want to say throw a YouTube video or part of your Facebook or Twitter feed in there you can also go into your the formatting say if you prefer to add some actual code
007in there or table you've got those options there as well as custom HTML and then you've got the comment box or do things like paragraph images content like that in this case here we're just gonna add a paragraph and we're just gonna type in something simple here and you can see it's got the normal box around the bullet you know it's kind of the block so you can separate them in and out you have the normal options here so I'll climb in put it old whether it's a link content there and also click on this at any time to get a more options the more options menu is pretty much the same between all of them unfortunately you do have the option to go in and edit as HTML which is nice otherwise you can
008also duplicate this or just kind of move this up or down that's what the insert before-and-after is or you can actually remove entirely if you set this as a reusable block it means you can quickly add it back in case you're saying you add the same type of content continuously continuously otherwise you just added in it as you want you can always click on the add balk at the top here to add in something else we'll just drop an image in this case I'll just grab something here one of the ones we've already set up in our image library and then with that we can see it now added you can see there's also options here for the justification just like with the text you can even go in to edit the image that's just
009let you reselect the image you do have the option to stretch it here as well which is kind of nice to get stretch it vertically or horizontally and you can see they're depending on the image you may only get to scale it itself it also write a caption here so we're just gonna put in something quick again you can even get the bold italic and link options there as well and there's always the spell check option if it's available order strikeout depending on what other plugins you have in here so you do have a lot of other options so these ones are just the ones we have because it's the base install but you may have many other options here available depending on your plugins and you've even got a couple just default ones here
010if you want to add another heading down there if we remove this too you're just our mouse away so that we're not selected on anymore you'll see if we highlight over it it'll show you the actual box and you'll see there's this little icon here on the side now let you actually move things up or down so you'll see the text and the image have switched and you can always swap them back and forth you can also drag and drop them so if you hold this you can actually move it above and below depending on how it is you have to move below the entire one itself you can also drag it around just kind of play with it a bit if you want and move it around a bit again this is a little
011bit of buggy and getting used to because it's still being set up here so you'll see there it's gone ahead and moved it below now one thing you should note which is a little not obvious unfortunately is there is the option up here which is show more tools and options if you click on this you'll actually get quite a bit of options in terms of how to change the mode itself so even like working in full-screen mode the big one here is definitely the code editor because this lets you go back into the actual HTML if you want so it's the full-on code itself as you can see here you can start modifying code so if you're more of a person who prefers to work with code you're definitely gonna find that handy just to
012switch it into the code editor for the new block section and you can go through modify content as you wish from there instead or you can always switch back and forth you can also see it even gives you a shortcut keyboard for in this case you can see it's a Mac based shortcut key just because we're using a Mac at the moment but you can always switch back and forth between there as well you'll notice the right-hand side itself has changed a bit and in the terms of the layout but mostly it's just the same contents before such as the visibility what do you want to publish it now review it trash it got the content for the permalink so the actual name the title and the page URL is now down here you used
013to be up above the title below and then you've also got content same just before the featured image you've got the discussion of whether you want a lot of comments or not which is a nice little feature to add into there and then you can go page attributes other things and you get der itself if you have a theme set up you may actually have another section below this you'll actually find it towards the bottom of the page which will be for your theme so I'll have an opera or down arrow for most seem to be found and experience ourselves personally for some things you may not even see them on all here it depends again on your theme itself in the case of a default WordPress theme like this one it just doesn't show
014anything cuz it's using the default one so you may have other additional theme options here you may not depending on how you have it set up but it's fairly straightforward in terms of use itself and does nicely out light and do a block format so as you can see here it's a nice little change from the older editor a few used it is probably gonna undergo some changes definitely in the future and then the recent changes if your questions about this we can definitely contact us so we could take a look at it as we mentioned you may find this little buggy depending on what themes and plugins you've set up here but it's definitely a good thing to keep in mind or try and test out if you haven't tried it already one thing
015we wanted to show you now that you can see there's a natural test page created in this case your order but it's saved by the default content is if you go to the all pages section here you'll notice it'll say block editor or if you have it set up to the classic editor you can actually sort now it'll actually let you know what your Lassiter did and you can even select here below which is kind of nice as well so if you say you've been work down in the Bakken or once which the classic editor you can always go ahead and switch off first one thing to keep in mind is you do what you have to name the page because it does have to have an actual saved copy of it before it does
016let you convert between the block editor and the clastic header so if we go into the classic era of this page here you'll see there's the option you can even go into the editor and switch it back to the block under from here but you can see it looks the same as the older editor itself so if we switch it back to the bak here it will go through in laws to change between the other one and there you go we're back at the block editor itself in this case here it already dropped in the sample page and the text there and you can of course switch between back and forth as you go now one thing to note here is it does keep the information just separate so it will actually create copies of
017the pages so as you can see here there's the test title at the draft in the block and switching back and forth so we'll go through and create just information you can go through it sample pages and default pages and things like that so just do give it a try and you can play around with it you may want to create some test pages first if you were doing I try and make sure not to publish them until you're ready to actually have them to show online there is a lot of content here you will go through and modify as it goes but as you can see here it is very simple to use it's definitely something fun to try out if you haven't already the classic editor is just literally called the classic catcher
018under the plugin list it's actually listed on the main screen there so if you're not sure what it is you want to grab it definitely good one to do so and definitely give it a try the new theme itself does showcase what it is and you can also use the new preview function as well if you want to test on what the page looks like before publishing it as well so if we go into the block adorn here just a sample page we just load up here and there we go and then what you can do is you can click on the new preview option up here looks a little flashing now actually it more than anything with the generating the preview they get to wait for this and pull it up now one thing
019we've noticed was some of the pages themes and plugins don't always work properly with the new preview functions they mean to just actually preview it by publishing it or loading it under another way or just using an older preview function if possible but you may not see with all content some the preview stuff we've found has taken a while to creat even if it's simple page because the way it dynamically creates it so this you may want to hold off on using as you can see you're taking a long time to actually load it up and all you can do is really wait for it to go through and do or you can actually go back and keep editing it because it does let you keep working on it it just creates a dynamic page
