All right, welcome again our visitors and we do have a time for public comments for regular session. Anybody like to make a comment? All right, perfect. If you would state your name, please. Sure. I am Sarah Clark. Um, I am a parent of a second

grader and a fourth grader here at Park View. I am once again asking the board to reconsider its decision to remove the American Library Association Bill of Rights from district policy. The American Library Association or ALA is a respected national organization that has promoted the value of libraries and library education for nearly 150 years since its founding in 1876. For those pursuing a career in library science, ALA accreditation is the gold standard for a master's degree. I was encouraged to see the role of district librarian listed on the potential vacancies in tonight's agenda. However, several certified librarians I've spoken with have expressed concern without the protections and the professional standards provided by the ALA Bill of Rights, it will be more difficult to recruit and to retain qualified librarians in our district. At the last

meeting, there seemed to be confusion about what the ALA Bill of Rights actually is. It was first adopted in 1939, well before the 2023 Illinois law that now references it. The Bill of Rights states that libraries should offer materials that reflect all points of view of current and historical issues and should not remove materials due to partisan or doctrinal disapproval. Resources should be made available to serve the interest and enlightenment of the entire community and should not be excluded based on the background or views of its creators and libraries have a responsibility to challenge uh censorship and protect free expression and access to ideas. These principles are not extreme. They shouldn't be political. They are foundational to education and intellectual freedom. At the last meeting, uh both Dr. Gayy and Mr. Meyer spoke of your

love for books and reading. I was really glad to hear that you both rightly enjoy the freedom to read what interests you and our students and their families should be afforded that same right. In closing, I urge the board to reconsider its stance on the ALA Bill of Rights. reinstating it is in the best interest of all students in our district. Thank you for your time. Thank you, Sarah. Any other comments? Please state your name, please. Brandon Champion. Uh, this is my first time getting to meet you guys. Uh, my wife actually got to speak for me last time. Uh, I encourage everyone here to follow what Miss Chalk said because being in the position that I am in a hospital, I have to deal with the aftermath of children not being recognized, not being

appreciated, not being uh viewed. and without the ALA to guide what you know the library can do. Um being being able to cherrypick books for children based because we don't feel that it is appropriate for them to learn about different religions or orientations or races or things like that. I will have a lot more individuals roll through the hospitals because of not feeling that they are respected. I'm a little bit I'm gonna say emotional right now just because last time I watched the live I saw many parents speak up in behalf of this and what I saw was them being met with indifference. What I saw was them being met with at one time an eye roll which I had a little chuckle at. And these are these are the parents of these kids. I'm

a parent of these kids. I have a kid in first grade going into second grade. I want every one of these kids to feel that they are seen, that they're heard. The only people that can help in that situation right now are the ones right here in this room that can take away or reinstate the ALA. All I'm asking is for you guys to listen to these ladies who are much more important to this than myself and everybody else in this room about what they're talking about. Thank you. Thank you very much. Anyone else? Hearing none, we'll continue on to our consent agenda. Dr. Brody, would you like to go us through that, please? Yeah, you've got your uh minutes and financial reports. We've got a few resignations. Mike Hall, our high school cross country

coach, is resigning. Michelle Bell um is our high school finance secretary. She's also resigned. She's moving to be closer to family. Cynthia Friedrich, our bus driver, is going to retire at the end of this year. Laura McWills, a middle school cook, is also going to be leaving us. Craig Nelson, um, has been or served as our IHSA swim coach that, um, we have some kids that that participate in swimming activities and so he would be the one that goes with the state. Um, and Tim Gagan in his retirement is no longer going to be our high school scholar bowl coach. Um, so we've got some employments. Taylor Shyanski is going to be our um, middle school art teacher and Jenna Helton is our recommendation for fifth grade teacher. Uh, we've got some leaves of ab

absences. Audrey Elliott is uh, our social worker here at Parkview. She's going to be um, with child from August to September. Amanda Sanfield, high school family and consumer science teacher, also will be 12 weeks away when she gives birth next school year. Uh, and then we've got some extracurricular assignments. Ty Wolf is going to step in as our high school cross country coach. Emily Bala would be our middle school cheer coach. We hired her last uh month as one of our teachers at the middle school. Michelle Michael Noli is are gonna step in as the IHSA swim coach. um he holds the same role at Waterlue and so uh Mr. Nelson was very excited that he was willing to to cover for that. And then we've got some vacancies that we're posting. We've got our

district librarian that we are asking for a certified librarian. We've got our summer IT workers as we've done before, five summer adult custodians, four summer student custodians, and three summer painters. That's pretty much what we had last summer and it's allowing us to get our buildings back into where they need to be. We also need to post for a high school scholar bowl coach. Um, we are also, thank you, Mrs. Schumacher, for pointing it out to me. I failed to have listed here the financial secretary, the bus driver, and the cook that will be leaving us because we're going to need to fill those positions. Um, it's the assistant scholar coach. You're right. Assistant because Doogie is the scholar bowl coach. Yeah. So, it it is the assistant. That Thank you for that clarification. And

then we also um based on our student needs need another speech language pathologist. We're adding uh another position for that for the next school year. Given all of that information, the administration recommends the board approve the consent agenda as presented. Perfect. Any comments, concerns, suggestions? Have we already approved Mrs. Haven for the STEM position? I thought that was that was suggested and we put it That is not on here, is it? We haven't done it. It doesn't mean we're because it's a transfer, correct? So, okay. Yeah, but thank you for catching that. You are going to be officially the STEM person. It's because they posted the position and you've already been hired. Okay. Well, I it's no different if she was third grade to fourth grade. It's treat them the same manner. Okay. Which when

you said it this morning to me, I kind of gave you that look like, yeah. Uhhuh. is I'll see you tonight when you said that and I didn't I I because you weren't on my list but that's because you're been hired with us. We're just moving you into a different position. But Amber Haven will be our new STEM teacher at the middle school because as I said we've hired someone to replace her as the fifth grade teacher. So um with all those clarifications I still recommend that you approve the list as presented. Yes. Any other questions comments? Now we'd like to approve the consent agenda with the only change is the scholar boilers assistant coach and those three additions of financial secretary bus drivers and cooks. Correct. I'll make the motion with a minute. Thank

you. I hear a second. I'll second. Thank you, Lisa. Roll call, please. Free. Yes. Adam Hin, yes. Andre Corey, yes. Kelly Moyer, yes. Greg Meyer, yes. Mrs. Schumacher, yes. Is it? Yes. Perfect. And we'll move on to our communications report and presentations. Enrollment report is in your packet report. We have Mr. Reeves join us this evening. Hi. Uh some of our pictures up here. We recently had our spring play musical Battle of Boat. Some pictures from some of our actors from that. has done did an outstanding job running that for us. Next to them is the our ACES team who competed at state this week at Eastern. Uh we did not win any medals. We came away with some pretty good pretty good experience to hopefully come back the following year. Miss Kish is uh

our sponsor for that. And on the next slide we have our students of the month from left to right. Connor Glover, Addison Murren, Abigail Velker, and Jameson Gatki. And then just some additional obviously we're spring sports and we're in we're in full swing. Track's been going for a while. We've got softball and baseball, girls soccer. Uh it is official. We will have a change in the conference. All the other boards approved them moving conferences. So this will be for the start of 2026 2027 school year. So, one more year as is. And that following year, Salem will leave to go to a new conference. And Civic Memorial, Jersey, and Waterlue will come in to join the conference. It's going to be a little bit of a shakeup in our division. Those teams are coming in.

Salem's leaving from that division. Those teams are coming in and we'll have eight teams in football in the Mississippi. But then for all other sports, Roxanna and East Altonwood River are going to move to the Illinois Middle Division and compete there. So for all their sports, we'll have six and they'll have the eight. So it's not a solid set, but it is based on competition. They felt it was better to compete in the middle. So uh some changes was conference reports coming up. One more year as is what I've got. Perfect. Thank you very much. Move on to our assistant superintendent report. Okay, Dr. Yi. So we're going to start with some district shoutouts. I am going to start on the right hand side of the screen with high school. We have Mrs. Mary Adams.

She stepped up in many ways throughout this whole ACT process. ACT is over. Um, one down check. Asking all of the good questions and getting answers for everyone, organizing and adding ACT materials, proctoring the ACT. Um, she believed the juniors as a whole are going to do well on the ELA related assessments. Um, and I can speak to her involvement with ACT. um she was involving me in those conversations as well as her department. She made a Google file folder. Um Mr. Reeves was involved as well. Like she was constantly um asking because she wanted to do what was best for her students that that she was prepping for the test. So very deserving. Um so thank you Miss Adams. Continuing over. Um well my my photos are kind of in different orders. Um I'm

going to go down on the left hand side and we're going to recognize Mrs. Michelle Breeding. Um she works at the CMS middle school um for the foods. Whether it's adjusting the kitchen schedule or testing, field trips, or any last minute changes, she handles it all with grace and a smile. Her organization, friendly nature with students, and openness to new ideas truly makes a difference every day. Thank you, Michelle, for all of your hard work, kindness, and unwavering support. You are so appreciated. And then moving up and over towards Miss Adams, we have our Parkview shoutout, which is Mrs. Christine Thompson. She is um one of our new teachers um this year to the district but not new to education. She came from Waterlue. She is in an incredible elementary school special education teacher. She

truly has patience of a saint. She always is ready to lend a helping hand, support her colleagues, and go the extra mile for her students. Her caring nature shines through in everything she does, but she also knows how to challenge her students to help them grow. No matter the situation, Mrs. Thompson stays calm and composed and full of positivity. We are beyond grateful for all she has done and we will definitely miss her next year. She's transferring to Eagle View. And then our last shout out goes to the whole entire Eagle View staff. Last Friday they had their breakfast with buddies which I was able to attend and it was such a well attended event. Um, it is almost a 40-minute event that requires considerable planning and work, and every single staff member plays an

important part in the planning, collecting of the RSVPs, and decorating, setting up, greeting, and serving, and cleaning up in time for the first PE class of the day at 8:15. The smiles on the children's faces and families make all of the hard work worth it. And there is no way we could put this on, this beloved event on without Eagle View's outstanding staff collaboration. And again, I was able to attend. And it was it was heartwarming because they get to choose the one person that they want to bring and sometimes it's a parent and sometimes it's a big brother, big sister. It it was just really heartwarming. Those are our shoutouts. Um as uh my timeline has been um projected, social studies curriculum is going to be a recommendation on tonight's agenda for an action

item. Um it has been displayed in the boardroom um for the month of well March to April. Um we are recommending grades two through five um get the MRA Hill impact. That was the best series for those grade levels. Um TCI which standards are all the same. It's just a different program with different needs fitting that grade level band would be using TCI. Um, and then the high school would be getting McGra Hill because they're so course specific and McGra Hill was the better of the two companies to fit into the course needs and those dual credit options because they work with the colleges and they do a lot of the college textbooks there and they could help with matching what they needed for those courses. Um, I'm already pending your approval tonight working on

professional development for those grade level bands to receive help before um school starts next year to make sure they're all ready to use those new resources. Continuing with uh curricular resources, you can kind of see um in addition, we've added a few more curricular resources to the boardroom. We are um looking at our ELAc curricular resource K through 8. we have be become very disjointed in those grade levels and ELA being our reading and our writing and all of the good things that go with that. It's really important to have consistency. So, we do have grade level leaders from each grade coming together. I was in meetings all day today and yesterday meeting with them, meeting with content specialists from both programs um and having those discussions to see if there is a curricular resource

that would better fit our needs going into next year. um it's a little quicker but at this point in time um I think that would definitely help the continuity of what we are teaching and learning in the district for ELA state testing we are very excited to announce um it is over uh we we did I successfully and then 9th through 11th the pre-ACT and ACT I will tell you um we did have a little hiccup and and I can look at Mr. Reeves for this with the ACT. They had a 45minute delay, but that was not just Colombia specific. Um, schools around Illinois had some ACT issues. Um, and ISBY was hearing all about it. Good news. We are excited with all of the hard work that we put in on the forefront before

ACT. Um, and we're excited to continue those programs, both the Horizons and the afterchool program next year to continue to hopefully build on those ACT scores in the coming coming years. We're excited. And then happy spring break. Any [Music] questions? Thanks. Excellent. Thank you very much. You're welcome. And move on to our superintendent report. Dr. Brody. Yeah, it it's um it's April and and it's going to be the end of the year soon. It just seems to be moving so fast. We are in the time of banquetss. FFA was this week and music is next week and we got pensers coming up and all of these things and it's neat to go to those and see all the kids getting their awards and being singled out for all the great things they do. Um we've

got this spring break for this weekend and it's always fun as the kids get ready to have the time off. There was an announcement today in Park View over the loudspeaker with Mr. Dugan saying, "Do not run in the hallways, please." It's everybody was exiting the buildings, but it's just it's a fun time of year. Uh we have been looking at our HVAC systems at the middle school. I know that we're doing the construction at the high school, but we've talked before about our electrical costs at the middle school. We're starting to compile all of the kilowatt hours we're doing per month because our uh Chris Schulty, our new HVAC guy, has been on for about a half a year and he's finding a lot of reprogrammings, things where we've heated it up and then

cooling it down and and uh hopefully the middle school is starting to see that the temperatures in the classrooms are a little bit more more more solid, but we're hoping that we're actually going to start seeing some improvements in those kilowatt hours. And so I'm hoping to have a report for you uh midsummer to at the end of summer to really talk about the middle school because the HVAC co the electrical costs there are are larger than what we would expect given the size of the building. Um we will have a closed session today to talk about a uh student issue but it will have no action afterwards. Um and that's really it. We're closing up the year and starting to look at uh various aspects as we do that getting ready for next year.

Awesome. Thank you for that report. We'll move on to our items for action. The first one is the approval of the consolidated district plan. This is one of those yearly tasks. This is the document that is multi-paged and we fill it into the Illinois State Board of Education, also known as ISBY. Um it basically says that we are willing to follow all of the rules that the federal government sets for us and the state government sets for us for those grants. Um and so we recommend that the board approve the consolidated district plan as presented. Perfect. Any questions regarding the consolidated plan hearing? None. Would you like to make a motion to approve it? I'll make the motion. Thank you, Tyson. Second. I'll second. Thank you, Andrew. Roll call, please. Adam Hemp, yes. Yes. Andrea

Corey, yes. Kelly Moyer, yes. Greg Meyer, yes. Lisa Schumacher, yes. Tyson Search, yes. Greeter, yes. All right, that passes unanimously. Next item is the approval of the 2024 20 to 20 probably 25 to 26 board of education meeting dates. The third Thursday is the recommendation. It is when we always have our board meetings with November being the only exception. Uh we do the Wednesday before the third Thursday in November so that the joint annual conference uh in Chicago will not be missed. Um, we have in the past pushed an August meeting earlier to have it before the start of the school year, but that causes a lot of consternation with the bills and the timing of everything. We have four weeks between meetings and that's much better. And so we would like to recommend that

the board continue with the third Thursday as recommended with November being the Wednesday before as the only real exception. Any comments, concerns, questions? Everybody good with a third Thursday except for November? Anybody like make a motion to approve the board of education meeting dates? I'll make a motion. Thank you. Second. Okay, Kelly. All in favor? Any opposed? Any extensions? All right. Perfect. Next item is the approval of the athletic trainer agreement through 2028. This has been a uh company that we've been with pre me being here. We've been with ATI for a long time. Uh they are a good company. They work well. Uh last year or the year before, we really did an examination of other companies um and possibly even getting our own athletic trainer and just administratively it's much easier to stay

with them. This is a three three-year contract um that will allow us to plan for the budgetary needs of it. uh administration recommends that the board approve the athletic trainer agreement through 2028. Any questions regarding the athletic trainer contracts? Hearing none. I may like to make a motion to approve the athletic trainer contract or agreement through 2028. I'll make a motion. Thank you, Lisa. Second. I'll second. Seconds. Thank you. Roll call, please. Here Corey, yes. Kelly Moyer, yes. Greg Meyer, yes. Lisa Schumacher, yes. Tyson, yes. Freed, yes. Adam, yes. Perfect. Unanimous again. Next item is the approval of the ad sales with digital scoreboards. As you're all aware, we are getting new internal and external scoreboards at the multi-purpose field and in our current gym. They are up in the gym. then they will be

uh connected with the power and the fiber I believe over this this break holiday. Um in the next couple of weeks you will see the large scoreboard outside at the multi-purpose field coming down. The fiber has been run, electric has been run and they are um between the press box and the the scoreboard. So, when we take down the scoreboard outside, the one the inside scoreboards we've kept, we're storing. We don't know if they will go back up and we'll move them when we get the new gym. The outside scoreboards, my recommendation is that we try to sell it on gov deals. Uh, so administration is recommending that the board approve the sale of the um old scoreboards. That's next. Oh, I'm so sorry. D is the ad sales for the digital. Yes, this would

be the contract with digital scoreboards that's going to allow us to um the sell the ads. It's a five-year deal and it allows us to get up and running with the ad sales and the marketing aspects and then the goal would be in those end end of those five years to have our systems and structures in place where maybe we have a class that assists us in doing that as we transition. Um and so the board would approve uh recommend the approval of the ad sales contract with digital scoreboards. Thank you. Questions on the agreement with digital scoreboards. My only question is on the revenue sharing. I know in here it defines what net revenue is as in it says it's the defined as the gross revenue less the direct cost of sales which includes

the not limited to ads software fees sales commissions and other variable costs and expenses. But do we have any oversight as to what they're applying as far as those fees or do we have any insight to what they would consider net cost or gross costs? We can table this and I can bring those answers back next next month. Yeah. Because I mean I if we don't have insight to what they're considering as gross as contributing costs that would affect the the net calculation. I will we will table the ad sales with the digital coreboard contract and we will get those answers. All right, next item we're action. You might have a little preview of this one, the approval of the sale for the outdoor scoreboard. Remember what I just said, and I still would recommend

we are getting the new scoreboards. Um, I would then recommend that we sell the old scoreboard on gov deals. With a note, also the public can bid on gov deals. So, if anybody in the Columbia area wants to have a big old schoolboard in their living room or garage or backyard or whatever, then here's your opportunity. We would post that out on social media, but So, it will already be taken down. Yes. So, they won't whoever purchases it will not be responsible for correct. It will be taken down and we will be I believe we're storing it behind the press box up on the I mean is that whoever buys it is responsible for removing it from its current location. Right. But it's already it's already taken down. Yes. It is not currently taken down

but it will be taken down when it's when we sell. Yeah. It will be sold in the down position. Uninstalled. Off. Uninstalled. Yes. Uninstalled. And then a caveat to that. We probably need to decide if we want to reserve on it or not or we just want to get rid of it. I think that they were originally talking about us paying to have it hauled away and I think it's has at least a scrap value. So, I mean I think it's I think we'd probably sell but find out but somebody interested in having a reserve or going just get rid of it. If if somebody takes it, we're a net game because we're going to pay to have it hold away. So, correct. Correct. Then why not? I'm sorry. Then why not try out of

reserve? Yeah. No reserve. If someone buys it for $2, we made $2. There you go. I was just trying to give something because everybody was quiet, so I just figured I appreciate Thank you. I throw words out there. Somebody broke the silence. Thank you very much. I'll make a motion. All right. Got a motion. No reserve. Motion to sell their scoreboard with no reserve. Do I have a second? I'll second. All right. Since this is asset sale, we do need a roll call, please. Kelly Moyer, yes. Greg Meyer, yes. Lisa Schumacher, yes. Tyson Search, yes. Friedrich, yes. Adam Hunin, yes. And Corey, yes. Perfect. All right. Next item is F. The approval of our social studies curricular adoption. Dr. Gayy, I bet you want to Dr. Danny on that one. Yes. Yes. Um I I

am hoping that the recommendation that you found in your board packet um will be approved for the adoption of grades 2 through 12 the social studies curriculum. It will be for six years um which really truly um as I've said before the six-year period is is what normally curricular uh companies will do. Um, and then year five, we should come back together and we should start looking because a lot of times there's updated copyrights. Um, and if you want to stay with that company, then you would get a new subscription with an updated copyright and move forward. Um, this will also, and I I know I say consistency and continuity is extremely important with instruction, but this is going to also support that continuity with social studies and also help our ELA um progression as

well in the district with with the reading components that that come with the social studies. Any questions on that? We have done a lot of work um as as curriculum teams. Um, I think they're excited. I I know I am. I'm excited to to see these items be put to use in the classroom if you choose to approve. I want to thank you for bringing the display so we can take a look at actually Absolutely. And there's still documents back there. Um so feel free to take some of those QR codes if you wanted to to see a little bit more in depth of of what's back there. Any questions regarding the social studies curriculum adoption? Hearing none. Would anybody like to make a motion to adopt the curriculum? Curriculara. I'll make a motion. Thank

you, Moren. Second. Second. I think Tyler Beach. Tyler. Tyler. All right. Roll call, please. Greg Meyer. Yes. Lisa Schumacher. Yes. Tyson Search. Yes. Noren Friedrich. Yes. Adam Humpkin. Yes. Andrea Corey. Yes. Kelly Moyer. Yes. Perfect. Our last time for action this evening is the first reading of the board policy press pass. Yeah, I called it the grody gainy. Usually you get the uh press policy because we get all the updates from the Illinois board of education. But there are really three groupings of policies here. The first one, board policy 42 240 is the school board policy and it talks about our school board. Uh Mrs. Schumacher had brought up from the journal article um for the from the school boards that there was a a a a the option that we could have a high

school student sitting on the board. They would be um need to go through a process and be selected. The high school student would then be on our board. Um when we go into close session, they would not go into close session. They would not be able to vote, but they would be there to listen to the discussion items and give the students perspective. Um, and so this will be the first reading of that. Um, if there's any discussions as to the pros and cons, concerns, questions, please let us know because that'll be a a a decision that needs to be made. and then two through seven. Um, as we've been going through some some personnel things and dotting eyes and crossing tees, my uh bookkeeper, my payroll bookkeeper brought to me these board policies and

um they've not been updated for some time. It does say that they follow the contract, but if you remember our last negotiations with the SESPA, we've added insurance and so I just want to make sure that that these board policies are in line with what we've negotiated. Um, and so I' I' I've got those there for the first reading. And then the last section of the board policies is board policy 7270, administering medicines uh to students. And and Dr. Gayy brought that one to us. You want to speak more about that one? Sure. So, I've been meeting with the nurses since the beginning of the year. Um, every quarter we've been meeting as a team to discuss how we are doing things am um in health at each one of our buildings. Um and reviewing

board policy has been one of those parts because we want to make sure that if we are doing it that it's in our board policy and we have a policy to support it. Um one of those policies that uh Jan Turley brought to me and we started reviewing was the administering medicines to students. Undesated medications are in that board policy. That would be like your EpiPen. Maybe you don't have a prescribed EpiPen because they don't know you have a high allergy but you go you have an allergic reaction at school. Um, as a parent, you would probably want to know that we had some epipens on standby in that case, but we also need a board policy to certify that we have trained individuals to use those undeed designated medications. It's the same with albuterol.

We have undesated albuterol um currently and we don't have it in our board policy. So this review is to review that we are going to approve undesated aluterol based upon the training that our staff would receive. If somebody was to have an asthma attack without an inhaler at school, we would be able to give it to them to help. Um does that make sense? Um I will tell you and I'm just going on a side note here with CPR. CPR is another um part to what we have been working on as as a nurse team and we have so many CPR certif uh certified staff and I feel like we're really going in a strong direction. We're understanding how we're doing things at all the buildings and this board policy is another example. So please

let me know if you have any questions on undesated medications. All right. So administration would recommend the uh first reading of these policies. Um the key one that we're going to need to to uh discuss more at depth is is probably the school board. Um the the medicines also being an important one, but uh it's my understanding that if someone if we think they're an aniflaxis and they take an EpiPen, it is not dangerous. You can I mean it's not good to give somebody a things but it's not um but board policy does support that you have to be trained and that's what we have to make sure we're doing as a district as well to support the policy. All right, makes sense. So, so this would be the first reading in the schoolboard policy.

First reading mentions the portion about having students as part of a board member or as a board representative in the in those. Okay. Then I attached the wrong document. Yeah, it took a while for us to find from ISB the document with the notes that talk about the student. Yeah, it's just what what's in the packets here does not I will email you the the the document. And then my second question on that would be how we how are we going to go about selecting the one student there. I guess Lisa, you probably more versed in this than the email that I I I sent out that had the link to the journal article and I'll find that and I'll resend it out. But it has on there some interviews and some guides. Yeah, I

recall reading I'm just saying if we're going to establish a policy, we need to have our procedures to go with it as far as what what methodology we plan to implement. as I was reading through this um because you can have like up to two. So I thought maybe that it would be you start your sophomore year um you know if you're interested in something like this and then maybe the sophomore person could be like a three-year term so finish out their high school years and then pick up your second one as a junior and that one would be like a two-year term. Um I just didn't know. I mean, whenever I went to this little seminar at the in Chicago, whatever, I mean, they were just kind of like starting to talk about this

process and that, you know, we are here for the kids. Um, they do have voices and stuff like that. So, I didn't know, you know, if this is even something that we have an interest of. I just thought since it was in the journal, you know, the articles were in there that maybe we should discuss it a little bit. Do we want to form a subcommittee that would then discuss it more in depth, come up with an actual written policy and then share it with you all? I I think my recommendation would be the administration tell us what they would like as far as the process because whether it's be like a student council president or whether you go through a search process. I don't personally have a preference. I think it's whatever the school

the high school thinks would be the best fit to find an individual to represent them. Okay. Yeah. Because I also wrote down like, you know, do you appoint one of your class officers? Um, do you do your student council rep or I mean, I don't know if the high school is do we have students that ever show an interest in like, you know, Mr. Stand will send uh some students from government, not seniors, to polling places, and they'll work as a poll poll official during the elections and we have some that will go to uh a senator or house representatives office for a day to learn. Uh so we do have students that are interested in that. I would say yes. I will get with Mr. Reeves and we will we will try and put

some some details into this and then bring it back to the board before the next board meeting. Well, this is just the first reading so we can Yeah. improve it. Any other comments, concerns, questions? Hearing none. Would anybody like to make a motion to approve the first reading of the Grody Gayy policy review? I'll make the motion. Thank you, Andrew. Second. I'll second please. Lisa Schumacher, yes. Tyson Search, yes. Norin Friedick, yes. Adam Humpkin, yes. Andrea Cory, yes. Kelly Moyer, yes. Greg Meyer, yes. All right, move on to our discussion items. The first one is our facility study. I'm not sure it's a study anymore. I think we're kind of under construction right now. We are under construction. We did the walkth through at 6:00 with the board and uh it's moving fast. We are

still in in on tap to have the fence down, parking in front and be able to go in through the front doors and have the administrative administrative offices. um in August with December being about when we would get the classrooms and the auditorium. There's been discussions of do we move the kids in the classrooms in in December and or not. Um Mr. Avis Rouse seemed excited today as we did a tour with the with the faculty. He he said he'd love to move in over Christmas break, but he then was talking about the distance from the current gym because it'll be nice when the new gym's there and and so we're just kind of kicking around a bunch of stuff, but uh the building's jumping up. We will have um by August of this year

the front by December the whole front done and then in August of the following year of August of 2026, the uh gymnasium will be completed. So, the whole project and phase three, which is the buttoning up in between the media center and things of that nature. Um, any comments from the board that walked through it today? It's nice. I mean, a lot different looking going walking through than it was like driving by on Admiral Parkway because you can't really see all that. So, it was nice to put, you know, stuff in place. Yeah. I just wanted to say thanks to like all the staff at the high school, the middle school because we were talking with the construction team today and there's what they say 60 I think um contractors on site, which means you

have probably 40 plus vehicles that are finding places to park. Sometimes the right parking places, sometimes not. Uh so I know that causes some logistical challenges for Mr. Reeves and company. Um, but I I just want to thank the staff and the students because I know the students are like, I showed up and there's someone in my parking place. Um, it's probably not the last time that's going to happen. Um, but everybody seems to be rolling with the punches and flexible. So, uh, just very appreciative of that. Even the construction crew was, you know, like, you know, we're they're trying to stay on it. I know the the site superintendent sitting out there from 6:00 am to 7 to kind of move any workers that show up and park in the wrong place, but you

know, there's always going to be people that slip through the cracks. But, um, and then I know in the coming weeks we're going to have even a bigger surge of more construction people uh because we have more concrete workers coming in and some other things on top of the current staff. So, um, this last month of school is going to be a bit a bit hectic. It's going to be like a beehive up there. Um, but that's the price of progress as they say. But thanks to the staff and students at the high school for their flexibility. Doesn't come without disruption. Anything else on facilities? We'll go on to individual board member comments. Have anything like to say this evening? No word president's prerogative. Um, we had a couple pillar comments tonight again about the

library and don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I just kind of want to echo what I said last month is that we agree on far more than we disagree. Um, we are big advocates for books currently. I'm more familiar with the high school library because we've been doing the project and my opinion is that's a very underutilized room and we need to improve it. Uh, one of the main reasons we didn't accept this policy is because we don't have the procedures or librarian to put it in place. So, we're tonight we approved a librarian. So, we're taking steps in the right direction. As far as I know, the board has never ever banned any books and I don't think we've ever had any input on what's in the library or whatever. Um, we

kind of if there's a problem, it comes to us. If there's not, we don't hear about it. So, um, but we're not in the in the business of banning any books. So, I just kind of wanted to set this record straight a little bit on that. So, but I appreciate all the input. Again, it's there's a lot of passion on on the subject and um we don't necessarily disagree with you. So, it's I think we can all work together and and the whole the whole goal is for the children. So, that's that's where we're going to continue to concentrate. All right. Uh we do have an executive session this evening uh for the reason of placement of individual students in a special education program and other matters relating to individual students pursuant to 5CS120/2c10. So

would anybody like to make a motion to adjurnn into executive session? I'll make I'll make the motion. Thank you. Second. I'll second it. Thank you, Kelly. Roll call, please. Let's see. Tyson search. Yes. Norin Friedrich. Yes. Adam Hemp. Yes. Andre Cory. Yes. Kelly Moyer. Yes. Craig Meyer. Yes. Lisa Schumacher. Yes. All right. We're to executive session at 7:55 All right, we are back in regular session. Time is 8:16 p.m. We have no further action items as a result of our executive session. Only thing left is a motion to adjurnn. Would you like to make that motion? I'll make a motion. Thank you, Andrea. A second. I'll second. Thank you, Kelly. All in favor? That concludes our meeting. 8:16 p.m. Thanks for joining us.
