Administration recommends that the board approve the consent agenda as presented these good people on the payLo any comments questions concerns right he none maybody like to make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented I'll make a motion Thank you Lisa second and now second thank you Andrea call please Andrea Cory yes Greg Meyer yes Lisa schacher yes Tyson search yes moving on to our items for Action the first one is the approval of the second reading of the stien job descriptions communication reports oops I missed one all right let's back up a little bit and go on to Communications reports and presentations thank you all for coming welcome aboard thank you thank you welcome thank you enrollment report is in your packet times moov on to our administrative reports our last assistant superintendent

report so sad um so just wanted to start out with some District news um the state FAA FFA conference was just held um here a couple weeks ago in Springfield um and our very own Lucas Snyder was able to earn his State degree um it includes a lot of the logs that they have to keep a lot of activities um a lot of extra work goes into doing this um and so we are thrilled that he represented Colombia um but this is a huge honor for him as well um so just wanted to give him a shout out um we also had our groundbreaking so very exciting um anytime you can drive past the high school um I feel like the pictures I just saw the other day already it looks completely different at the

high school when we went down there today I'm so excited about this project and to see it starting to come to fruition and not just blueprints that I don't understand when I read them on paper um just wanted to make sure everyone knows that we are currently in our summ summer office hours um so all of the buildings are only open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 to 2: um and they are closed on Friday um the district office is open on Friday morning so if there's something that someone in the in the public needs um they can come up here but the the buildings are only open Monday through Thursday right now um some big things coming up we are right in the middle of our Skyward conversion which is our student management system so

that's where parents log in to see their report cards um where students get to see schedules um right now we have access to nothing so we have had a couple people e e e thing I didn't do and it um individual teacher shoutouts um hold on cuz I'm going to cry um just want to say thank you to all of you guys um but really to this District as a whole um you took me in three years ago I've absolutely loved my time here um I keep telling people I'm not saying goodbye I'm just saying see you later for now um but just thank you to everybody parents students teachers staff School Board um just everybody I I can't say that enough so thank you guys you okay thank you st I wasn't going to

cry I practiced that I wasn't G to cry you got um yeah I I want to say thanks to Alyssa as she goes off to Bethalto um we all wish her well you uh she came in three years ago go and hit the ground running and did a lot of things uh and since she accepted the job at Bethalto she hasn't stopped running you know you can tell more about someone by the way they leave than when they enter and and we've appreciated it uh today you were even in here with a bunch of teachers um it yeah so thank you good job thank you um and the other one I have is that we will be adding on our website a page to update about the construction there has been a lot of stuff

going on at the high school it the front of it doesn't look like the front of it anymore with the stuff coming down the dirt Works happening um and they're getting prepped for the phase one and we're excited about that those are the big things going on right now awesome sweet all right now we're going to move on to the items for action start off with the approval of the second reading of the sing job descriptions yeah and this was tabled when our um we had a question regarding legal council's opinion regarding the essential functions and so I sent this off to uh Barney mundorf and he agrees that those essential functions should be there but he did change them a little bit and so I would uh recommend that we approve the job description

second reading with the given U change es regarding the must be able to lift Push Pull objects of 40 to 60 lounds on a regular repetitive basis lift Push Pull objects on an occasional basis of 100 or more pounds uh must be able to speak hear see right climb stand stoop knel all those good things um task requiring extensive use of hands including repetitive gripping grasping lifting manipulation of equipment necessary to perform duties very similar to what it is it's just basically trying to be a catchall for all um for all jobs so the administration recommends the board approve job description second reading with the noted changes to the essential functions any questions comments or concerns i' we like to make a motion to approve the second reading of the Cy about description I'll make

the motion thank you Andrew a second second Tyler seconds all in favor I actually sted list it's money so let's go and do it real sorry Greg Meyer yes Lisa schoemaker yes Tyson search yes Andrea Cory yes all right next item is the approve of the fisc Year 24 amended school budget I did the review at the hearing um Administration recommends that the board approve the fy2 24 amended school budget as presented questions all right like to make a motion to approve the 24 amended school budget I'll make a motion thank you second second second roll call please Lisa schacher yes Tyson search yes Andre Cory yes Craig Meyer yes we'll see how this one goes next one is approval of 2425 student handbook for all SCH yes this is for the next year's student

handbook uh Devil's always in the detail I will say that noren uh Frederick and I met with the middle school and the high school to review kind of discipline and look at some things we're going to uh have more trainings on cell phones I will say to the parents that the cell phones are probably the most dangerous things a kid can bring to the school they can make some poor choices that can affect them uh we're going to try and improve the education there but there's really nothing that needs to be changed in the handbook for that however uh Mrs Corey brought to me the fact that the handbook at the CHS handbook uh on page 69 in the first paragraph last couple of sentences refers to uh kids arriving late need to enter through

the front of the building that is no longer possible and it we will make the adaptions that they have to go through the main entrance which is going to be on the side of the building back toward the other side of where the front is uh we will'll have signs up there pointing people where they need to go but the administration given those changes understandings would say that we should approve the board should approve the handbooks as presented with amendments with the Amendments yes we'll change page 69 and just understand that we are will to do more education on cell phones okay any discussions questions may we like to make a motion to approve the 2425 student handbook I'll make that motion second second thank you all in favor opposed exensions next one is approve

to request bids for a maintenance truck yeah and the next three are going to be for next year's fiscal year it'll be I if I if they pass I will put that in the budget for next fiscal year but what we'd like to do is our maintenance trucks are old they're well used well-loved um we need to start a rotation the last time we bought maintenance trucks we bought two of them I'd like to buy one now wait a couple of years and then buy another one and and do it more in a a rotation It's s on the budget that way so Administration recommends that the truck that a truck bid be approved by the board and added to the FY 25 budget and how are we doing the bid specs on that uh

we've got an idea of what we would like we would bring it around to the local dealers and add it to them they're looking for a GMC or a Chevy or equivalent is probably what I would put in there um but they're they like shies and seems GMC's and shies and it's not to exceed 55 that's where we would probably be yeah we're not looking for a lot of bells and whistles we're just looking for a work truck that can do what we needed to do is this going to pop snow also or just a maintenance truck um I believe that it would be fitted with a a a plow just going to be fourwh dri yeah oh yeah I'd like to be involved in the okay absolutely any questions we may like to make

a motion to approve the request for bids on a new maintenance pickup truck I'll make the motion Thank you Lisa second I'll second second okay call please Andrea Cory yes Greg Meyer yes Lisa schacher yes Tyson search yes next item is request for bid for a new 77 passenger School Bus yes and this is again one of those things we try to get a new bus every year we did sell some of our older buses the last couple of years on um deals go deals yes uh this year we're not looking at selling anything but we would put this new bus into the rotation and the older buses would kind of move back and be spares um keeping up a fleet is wise thing so I believe that we should purchase a 77 passenger bus

this year B good questions comments concerns who wants to buy a bus I'll make the motion Ty wants to buy a bus me a second Tyson search yes Andrea Cory yes Greg Meyer yes Lisa schacher yes keep on spending some money we're looking at a request for bid for a new passenger van this one I'm kind of back and forth on I I was surprised that we would not save the fuel as much I thought we would have saved more right now we drive a 77 like bus out to St Louis every day to drop a student off uh that could be done in a minivan um there's licensing and all this other stuff that needs to be part of those bid specs to make sure that it can travel students to schools but with

the passenger van we'd say we'd save gas on it we'd also save um tires and other wear and tear and so I I think it's a good idea to get the minivan I think there'll be other places that you could use it for when we go to like Cross Country Events and we've got kids you know a team of two participating in a state event they would do that um so I'm requesting that the board approve a mini ban purchase um and add it to the FF y25 budget okay is it a mini ban or is it bigger than a minivan it' be I think classified as a minivan they do yeah you can't you can't do like a 15 passenger bus you can't a 15 passenger van you can't transport students in they're considered

unsafe and so unless you you you've got to go with a much more um so like those long church vans you can't use for schools so you either have to be on a a bus with a center aisle or you can use them in in in a car but it would be a minivan do we have a minivan now no we have um transition the transitional classroom at the high school has one that they take their students to um for their job sites you're right I forgot about that I know I've seen one in the par yeah but that's used to take kids to job sites it wouldn't be available for transporting the kid to the St Louis how many so you have to go out there in the morning and then go back in

the afternoon and pick them up they pick up full size or small bus so about one our Sports buses are would it be a conflict what's that you can use one of our Sports buses like one of the white no you can't use a white one to bring a kid to school it's got to either be a c it's crazy as like if you use a minivan yeah if you got it licensed correctly cuz those are white correct or no it's yeah I sat down with Mrs Mueller the the um our our U Transportation secretary and and she got out the little charart she's like yeah no if you license it this way and um eight fewer passengers is a total set of rules with public auto I know that yeah so so it's uh

you know but the white you can't you can't use a white bus to take kids to and from events like uh field trips or academic stuff you can only use those for extracurriculars but don't we have a short yellow bus we do have short yellow buses why aren't we using those that's what they're Curr what they're actually using oh still bus is this going to be like handicapped accessible or no no I guess we have the short yellow buses if that's needed correct yes I thought okay I'm just kid although they do have the minivans with handicap accessible where the ramp comes out yeah don't need that how many passengers would this be it would be a minivan so you could probably take like seven seven yeah I do remember there's a law with eight

I think I might be including the driver is under deal I know a lot of my liming is under 10 don't fall into that so I mean I still know you're you're talking about the upkeep and maintenance and the purchase cost and that sort of thing for one trip I'm not sure it's going to pay out pay out uh I'd be interested in getting bids and looking into it further but I'm not sure I want it in the budget for next year gotcha person but so you'd be you'd be saying that we could go out to bid and see what the price would be about I have no problem running the numbers that's the it it the quotes that we've looked at to kind of see if this is even a feasible idea um it

it's around 40,000 I think I have to look at this the thing again but it's like you know if you're only saving a th000 bucks a year which is what we were or a day no a year was a th000 bucks a year was what we came up with with the mileage savings it's a long time known B if you have those kind of numbers I would be a hard note okay not sure about you guys yeah I'm all right I'm trying to see if it's really beneficial don't we have another car also that I know driver Z no not the driver Zed I think there's another car that um was used to drive students to different things like um maybe some of the um specialed situations they were taking them down to the grocery

store um like where they were learning some skills and stuff and I feel conf I think that's the I I can talk to Mr Reeves he knows the history of the when we got the van and uh for the you're welcome to get bids without board approval you don't need board approval to get bid we can't commit so right you w't look into that you got the time I got the nope works for me um is there anything that we can't buy a like a van that's two years old or something and not take that initial hit from brand new I don't know maybe be still the waranty that might be worth looking into also I'll do more research and come back with you if I get if I get anything that seems reasonable I

applaud the initiative though like I like to they brought it to me and I thought yeah putting it's only $1,000 yeah yeah return on investment just is not there all right do we need to make an action on that no no it'll just die from lack of motion okay all right next one is the approval of the k5a curriculum B Dr Smith Dr would you car so the initial um study for the new Ela curriculum came about because our K5 um current curriculum we go through Journeys um and as of May that company stopped making it shut down all access online so our teachers were going to be left with very minimal resources um we also were not really happy with it after doing a lot more study professional development and Research into the science

of reading um and so um this new curriculum is really um staying away from a canned box curriculum company set um and really just going after the components that are most important for students to achieve um so it would be made up of using the Orton Gillingham both the comprehensive and the um morphology depending on the grade level um then we were currently looking at rooted in reading for our K2 classes um we are looking to Pilot that so that's why I'm not asking you to approve necessarily the third grade ELA curriculum in its completion um because we're not sure it's going to meet the needs that we want in third grade um in which case then we will align it more to the fourth and fifth grade um set of going on but it

really is just looking at taking in all components of reading um that all the research has been coming out about and doing what's best for for students to helping them achieve in the the reading and writing aspect the other really good thing is that um with all this including all of the professional development training for our teachers um we got a giant bump in our Title One Grant this year because districts were trying to spend their Sesser money and they weren't spending over the last couple years their title money and so this is the last year that the state is being allowed to roll over money and so it all got dumped so we had a huge jump and everything would be paid out of the grant nothing would cost the district any money to

make this curriculum move questions we' like to make a motion to approve the K5 Ela curriculum I'll make the motion thank second second all favor hi any opposed carries next item is the approval of the middle school health curriculum um so this is another one we have really kind of been lacking we've been doing the bare minimum of what is required at middle school for health um the last couple of years and so we've been spending some time looking at it there's a long laundry list of state mandates um that have to be units of study in Middle School curriculum but we also knew that we didn't want to go with the state provided Comprehensive Health um sex education Health curriculum so um in meeting with the middle school health teachers or Middle School PE

teachers talking over with them what we think would be best looking at those mandates and figuring out what would fit best for of them to cover um we've really created our own District Health curriculum and so um I provided you with a list so that you could see what those topics were um many of those like I said are the required mandated units and then we've added in some additional that we felt were necessary for our students like the social media um safety the um the safety unit just in how you keep yourself safe in a lot of different situations um and things like that all right questions concerns comments I feel more comfortable with this because it's laid out of what and we like to make a motion to approve the middle school health

curriculum I'll make the motion thank you Tyson second second Thank you Lisa all in favor any all right next item is the approval of the first reading of board policy press issue 115 this is a u another out another press policy has come to us it is not nearly as long as the last few have been um I'll be honest with you I've not looked through it yet to see really what it is um I will update you as I looked through it before between now and then if you've got any questions concerns or comments please give me a call regarding it however um Administration would recommend that you pass the first reading of the Pres policies any questions regarding the first reading any like to make a motion to approve the that board press

policy press issue 115 I'll make the motion thank Andre second second everyone call please Andrea Cory yes Greg Meyer yes Lisa Schumacher yes Tyson sir yes all right that concludes our items for Action we'll move on to our discussion items with our facility study the uh facility study some work has really started to um progress at the high school the ground work is being set for The Phase One Construction the black top is pulled up the sidewalks are gone they are saving the um top soil for later use they're scraping that off they're also scraping off the rock underneath because when we what's going to happen is they're going to then start cutting other portions cuz the water needs to come in the sewers and whatnot and the area that we're doing the gym they're

not going to re um asphalt that area they're just going to fill it with rock so we'll have a rougher place but there's no sense doing that if we're going to put a a gymnasium there so a lot of coordination and a lot of thought is being put into this progression so the the work going going well I will like I said get a web page and start putting more posts we've been taking pictures every day and sending it out for uh social media to put it out there um funding is also progressing we will be having steel back at our board meetings to sell our next round of bonds um 15 million allows us to get that arbitration that not arbitration Arbitrage Arbitrage we don't want arbitration we want Arbitrage that's where we can

uh earn more money than it's being charged against us and we get the interest we're doing that with the 10 million that we sold last year this year we're going to be selling 15 million and then next year we'll sell another this is all being designed very strategically a to keep our cash flow so that we can get that Arbitrage but also to Ure that the project gets done while holding the taxpayers bonding rate flat um questions concerns comments please let me know but at the next board meeting um we'll have Steve will here we'll start looking at issuing debt certificates and going through all of those steps that steo puts us through we're going to be selling these for a December U official sale but we've got to do all the steps before that

I would like to add a little bit our our kind of our homework is paying off on this and so the it's really neat to see when the project starts a coordination between our owner's rep Mr Brody the contractor everybody is really in line with everything and and we have checks and balances and you know one the owner gra came to us and said hey we forgot this or they're not the contractor isn't doing that everybody's being held accountable so everything's running exactly as it should and this is just a project I'm very proud of these guys for all work that they put into it and making this go as well as it has so it's it's something be proud of so you you and Adam have put in many many hours sitting around those

those plans so I we appreciate that as well all right individual board member comments I'd like to give a big shout out to Mrs smth thank you for everything that you've done for our district you will be missed thank you yeah I second that it's also very fortunate thank you president prerogative it was my idea to hire Dr Smith just cutter for that one like everybody says you you've done just a fantastic job and Mr Grody is exactly right it's so unusual when somebody is leaving to go out as strong as you did and and just amazing it's speaks just volumes your character thank you for everything you've done You' made the district a better place and another thing I wanted to say is happiest birthday to Johnson she made me promised we wouldn't sing

so I will stick to my promises have a really good voice that ech goes a lot so I sa you thank you for joining us on your birthday very nice all right I don't believe we have an executive session tonight sir that concludes it only the last item is a motion to adjourn you like to make that motion make I'll second all in favor any OPP all right concludes our meeting time is 7:43 p.m. thank you all for joining us
