for the house of neighborly services and like I I feel like a broken record I've been saying that we've had so much support from the city that amazing how much we can get in one week uh we had I think it was two truck fulls and uh and then some um so we had that and then um I don't think it's up there but also November I just wanted to bring this up we we uh had a coin drive for one week for uh we were sponsoring two local veterans for to take the Greater St Louis Honor Flight and we were able to raise $ 2,28 for coins in one week which is just unbelievable so uh Mr Jean henkler and Mr uh David hoook uh got to come to the flag pole out here

for our little uh Veterans Day celebration thanked us for for that um all of our grade levels this year have had some amazing field trips or will have one this is second grade at the St Louis aquarium we visited in November and everybody had a great time third grade students went to Bush Stadium last week and fourth grade is planning to trip to the arch and the new Museum there all of these wonderful field trips were funded by our candy bar fundraiser in the fall so students had no cost nice nice same excuse me same Joe Joe oh Joe I'm sorry Joe you might run the camera so people at home can see who's speaking oh thank you that's okay sorry to interrupt yeah's got this okay uh the picture on the left that's me

I got pied in the face of the cool with pie by uh whan there second grader um just showing you that we're doing PBIS rewards at our school students earn Eagle bucks for positive uh Behavior Uh little whand earned 200 Eagle bucks which is a lot of money $1 do is usually what we give for positive behavior he earned 200 Eagle bucks to pie me in the face which is our top tier I think I think I need to raise the bar apparently there's eight more that are waiting um but uh no we we have other things that they can earn uh candy uh playing cards food special lunch table lunch DJ the kids really love lunch DJ during lunchtime uh we give them a playlist that they can pick from and they get to

pick free songs that we play the kids kids love it um they can choose a PE game uh Chester Checkers against a staff member and of course the pie in the face we also do um schoolwide goals uh we'll have like uh clean restur rooms or uh lower bus referrals um right now we're doing voice level in the lunchroom um so when we meet those goals we do some kind of reward and that kind of all goes back to the chalk of our fundraisers that we do we can take the money that we earned from that and we've done a Kona Ice truck um we'll do a gum day coming up here for the voice level um yeah and then we had 116 students participate in the Young author contest just at Parkview the top

four books from each grade were selected to attend the young authors's conference that's coming up in Chester and Mr Dugan has been reading the books to the classes during lunch we are so proud of every student that wrote a story and was willing to share great job all right our last picture there is Alex and Mrs Meyer Alex is in Mrs vulmer crosscat room and every Friday we have coffee crew and if you watch the show me St Louis they were kind of the the the spotlight on there um her class goes through they um they provide coffee and muffins for the staff every Friday and I think probably some of the district office orders from them as well they even have little Punch Cards where if you're a frequent frequent buyer you just get

a punch so students make muffins I mean they actually mix the batter they make the muffins um they color code The Coffee Cup labels fill the orders and they deliver and that's the best part for all of us is when they're delivering the the goods to us on Friday so it makes everybody smile from Park nice great job right moving on to our assistant superintendent report so segwaying right um so Channel like Mr was say yesterday um Channel 5 was here at school and so um our coffee crew got highlighted on channel five um the kids looked fantastic so it was Mr Dugan did a great job representing our our school our district and our community if you didn't get a chance to see that um but I think the other thing too is it

just I wanted to give a shout out to the teachers because to throw in a last minute assembly and to have all those kids in the gym waiting to go out of their ordinary schedules um is huge and so that is a testament as well to all the teachers at AT Park View and doing something awesome for our kids um I had a couple of kids tell me that they were celebrities because they got interviewed by Chanel five and then I heard today they were very upset because that part didn't air on TV so they were a little upset they weren really on TV but um but it was fun seeing that pep B was also amazing I mean Mr AIS Rous did an amazing job job and our kids loved it I I told

them we might need to do that again there you go yeah it was awesome so um okay moving on to a couple of more shoutouts um I'm start at Eagle View with Monica M she's one of our kindergarten teachers um our you know we have an amazing staff and so it really is hard to kind of narrow down one at a time at the different board meetings but just a shout out to Monica who has been teaching kindergarten for several years but is constantly searching and learning and trying to find new things and then bringing them to the kindergarten team to let's try this out let's see how this goes um and then we'll take on the okay I'll make all this currently we are um piloting the Orton Gillingham that we sent teachers to

train over the summer and the kindergarten readable books um kindergarten team didn't like the way they looked right they were just kind of very generic and basic well Monica has a student teacher right now and so she has volunteered to redo all of the OG books for kindergarten so um she has the time to do it during the school day but to even take on that task is um Monumental and and so she you know just wanted to give her an extra shout out for that um at Eagle View and Parkview this is Sasha hany she's our new librarian um so she covers both buildings she does a great job not only you know connecting the books and inspiring kids' passion of reading with what's going on the character words the month or what's happening

in the buildings but she is always willing to help she gets pulled a lot to sub because we're short on substitute teachers so again I'm going to make my plug if anyone knows somebody that wants to be a substitute teacher we are always looking um but she is always willing to step up do whatever she can um no matter what's going on so wanted to acknowledge her at the middle school this is Betsy kenek she's one of our science um teachers and this year she is really um she's been trying to increase her leadership skills and exposure um and so she's been stepping up in a lot of different way joining different committees for curriculum helping to make some decisions she's helping to plan things for the solar eclipse um and then she also is

one of our administrative Subs this year and so um you know it's tough when we can't get regular subs and then when administrators are out right we need somebody to help support the teachers um and so she has stepped up and is doing that as well to get some leadership experience so I'm going to do an knowledge her and then I have Megan Reinhard she's really a district employee but she works mostly at the middle school and high school but I put her down for the high school um because we have a couple of cases right as the school sites they do a lot of the testing a lot of the organizing for IEP meetings um and that kind of stuff but we have a couple of cases at the high school um that the

high school counselors are like we've been trying we've been working with you know these couple of students for three in four years um we feel like we're spinning our wheels and Megan was like I've got it I'll come over I'll meet with the student I'll work we'll work on a plan together um and then she works that out with the counselors and then the counselors are like oh so kind of refilling their tool bag um with things to try and like I said that's kind of out of the ordinary of what our school sites do in the district um but she was willing to jump right in and and do that without hesitation so I think that is amazing as well sorry slides there's and the uh and our coffee crew from from the news

um last month I talked to you a little bit about kind of our district focus and this cular cycle that we're on so just kind of wanted to fill in that we are currently um in this instructional phase so looking at the Core Curriculum at the standards we've been spending our half day work looking at Focus skills um really looking at our standards breaking them down and helping to build you know kind of progression sheets um it's an ongoing process it is not an easy process by any means even for the most seasoned teacher um but it is something that we are working through um and going to continue working on because it not only will help our teachers but it's also what's best for our kids is to have that lined up so that

is kind of our district Focus um we're also doing some curriculum mapping um to do horizontal and vertical alignment and So currently I'm working with the Middle School um language arts team the district PE the district art program our elementary Ela program and our K8 math so these are the ones that we're focusing on this year um and then our Our Hope and our plan is to have these groups done at the end of this year and then next year move on to another set of of curriculum and then finally and I think the most exciting part of my presentation is um we were just notified yesterday so the state of Illinois has the those that excel in the teacher of the year program and so this year we were notified that for um one

of the those that Excel is Heidi Klein who's our INR language arts teacher um does a phenomenal job um she says she's retiring after next year I think everyone's telling her we're not going to let her retire after next year um but she just does an outstanding job she's being um nominated or she was awarded with a special recognition from the state board um and the other one is Kurt Steve um for under our support staff for all of the just amazing things he's done for the district since he's gotten here he's another one that don't know that I've ever heard him say no or I can't do that it's always a I'll figured out I'm on it right now no problem and then as he's telling you that he's already rushing off to the

next project because he keeps saying yes in doing that um so we are just you know we have amazing people in our district but it's awesome for the rest of the state to start to see some of the amazing people that we have so they will both be honored in Bloomington at a u presentation in a banquet in May so we are we are thrilled this is hot off the prices so nice all I have congratulations well now you got to follow both of those it's it's a tough one I will say um Kurt Steve just this year it's a good example the we had an HVAC unit start at stop at the beginning of the year at the high school in the language arts wing and to get a temporary HVAC unit there and

set up was going to be a lot of money and Kurt did some phone calling talked to some people he knew and next thing you know he says well I think I got a an alternative and for half the price we were able to get a new unit there and get it hooked up and and have air for the kids and it's just he does what he does but he also reaches out to the relationships he has to really um benefit us and one wonderful way so uh I just wanted to give you a specific example on that one for us for me I've got a few things um parking lots in progress if you've walked the path we're hoping by mid um March it will be done but uh it's a very big area

that's getting done remember they've got to do some sidewalks so that's not going to be all parking they're digging it out putting the underground trenches in and stuff like that but uh hoping by mid-march but that is in progress so I excited about that uh project that we've been talking about for a while last month we talked a little bit about residency um we actually passed a policy where employees can register their students tuition free um ihsa in December changed some of their bylaws and we were then questioning huh how's that going to play out for us because if a high school student is um coming to our district and they don't live here will they be able to play and uh so I sent the the new wording that they had but in the

past the students were able to play okay so if you had a waiver with the state through the legislative uh branch and and your employees were able to have their kids register with you their students were able to play in high school sports um now that it's no longer through a legislative waiver but through board policy ihsa changed the wording of their policy why would they change the wording of their policies I I don't know why um lawyers do a lot of things that lawyers do however I sent it off to Barney mundorf and he read it and um it's kind of vague but he says no I I I believe that this says that they can play and so we believe that they changed the wording because it's no longer a legislative W waiver

but a um board policy waiver and so our students would still be able to play but like those are some of the little details that we have to make sure we understand because as we're sent out a survey to find out how many people are really going to be thinking about registering their kids so that we can make sure our staffing is adequate we want to be able to say if your child is a high schooler if they'd be able to play or not and so right now we believe firmly that if they are employees of the district and they come here they would be able to play uh the other one I got uh news of was kind of interesting there was a Matilda and Edward dare d o r r pronounced dare it's

a family in this of this community I see some board members nodding their head um they set up a Memorial Scholarship in their name and this year I was on the phone with the bankers um just this week and they said well for the 2024 year we have $150,000 we've got to give away as scholarships and I said okay okay so you'll want to have that decided by December then you know cuz I'm thinking 2024 and she and he goes no I've got1 15 ,000 we need to give in scholarships to seniors this year wow is right and and and so it got me thinking because I it's kind of funny because there are a lot of scholarships out there and for all of the families that are watching this getting your child my youngest

is a senior all three of my children getting them to actually fill out the forms for scholarships it shouldn't be this much work but there's opportunities out there that they should be taking advantage of and so um if you tell your child to reach out to the guidance counselors and and they're telling you no there's nothing there's it maybe you should call the guidance counselors yourself and set up a little homework assignment for your child to get the scholarship because again the the intent of the Matilda and Edward dare Memorial Scholarship is they want to do a four-year full ride scholarship and and and so this year they would say you know we'll pay for your first year of college and then there'll be all these extra little ones then the next year those two

would get their second year paid for and two new people would get it and then there'd be some other you know to come up this is going to be this was the interest that this fund earned and every year the interest goes toward these scholarships um we are very appreciative of this family giving back to the community in this way uh and I want to say that FAFSA was delayed in its opening um anybody with a senior this year might know and the struggles of filling out the FAFSA forms if you don't um you should really appreciate the scholarships that are there uh so again my plug is is to make sure that your children are filling out those scholarships but those are some of the things that have been coming across my desk this

month quite else no sir that's a lot all right a very heavy item action list for this evening just one item is the approval of the 20 24 2025 school calendar yeah and this is one of those things where every year the calendar is relatively the same and then also different we always start in mid August we always end trying to do it before the uh Memorial Day um right now what we're proposing is that institutes August 13th and 14th with students starting the August 15th that would be a Thursday we like to start school on a Thursday because the kindergarteners half of them come on Thursday half of them come on Friday that gives them two days of coming to school and then the next week we're we're live and in progress first semester

would end at 1220 Christmas I believe is a Wednesday this year so you'll get uh two full weeks of Christmas break second semester would start with teachers coming back on Monday January 6th and the students coming back on January 7th Tuesday uh the last day of school with no snow would be um the 20th that's a Tuesday the last day of school with five snow days would be 5:28 that is after Memorial Day much too many people's Chagrin um you just you try to balance the first semester with the second semester in the number of days you Easter is a little bit later this year or is it yeah it is later this year um so there's just always Oddities that happen the administration recommends we we've met with the association we've talked about it

at various things we had a first iteration second iteration third iteration we've had some questions we've made some comments um it's not the world's best calendar but it's not the world's worst calendar either given The Oddities of When Things Fall Administration recommends that we approve this calendar questions concerns comments Alissa did I miss anything no I think the only other thing we tried to spend a lot of time on this year is in the past parent teacher conference the kns had been issues um for our own staff members um because there tended to be that usually tended to be regionals for volleyball um soccer is during that time senior night was tending to fall on those things or the last you know game and so this year we tried really hard we took all of

the Fall Sports schedules and plotted them all out and tried to pick what would be the least intrusive um for everyone not just the sports schedules but looking at you know everything going on in the district to kind of help our staff out as well on those SS because they do give up two full nights to do this parent teacher conferences too you want to talk about March what we did there so typically we do um two nights and then a half day in the fall um this calendar has broken it up so the two nights would still be in the fall and then the half day would actually be in the spring um we haven't had a spring parent teacher conference in this district for quite a long time um but we thought this

would allow for kind of an extra touch in with parents at the end of the year um but especially for those students that are struggling that are in danger of failing at the upper grades um and just having that extra dedicated time in the spring to be able to touch in this would not be a time where we would be at asking every parent to come back in like we do in the fall um this would be more of a kind of an invitation only if there's issues or things going on it'd also be good for the high school and those one semester classes because they don't get a parent teacher conference at all so um having them on both the sides of the semesters which is a positive so now questions concerns comments and

this year with the number of emergency days we've taken are we still on scheduled to end on June 4th talking about this year yes we've had one emergency day right yeah yeah yeah we've only had one emergency day although there's many people that think that we should have had I do remember that more we have some people that think we should have had last so um all right question withdraw sorry no but the last day would be then one day later okay the 20 so it' be the perfect thank you so much for bringing that up again je long day all right questions concerns comments Mr G anybody like to make a motion to approve the 2024 25 calendar I'll make the motion Jo I your second second seconds roll call please Andy yes KY

Moyer yes GRE Meer yes Lisa schacher yes Tyson search yes Norine fried yes really didn't need a roll call on that but since that was our only action excise a little bit so right all right next is our discussion items and we'll start off with our facility study we met last week and went into a deep dive on the gym we are right now reviewing the um design documents for phase one which is the administrative offices the academic wing and the auditorium they're about 50% completed with that we're looking to have those go out to bid this summer um and so we're getting close on that because of the cost implications and whatnot we've started looking at the phase two which is the gymnasium to make sure we have a good understanding of that scope

so that we we'll be able to balance the budget and the finance as well so we've started having those meetings um we met today to go over the timelines some of the logistics uh the biggest I think hurdle is like I'm hoping in a month to a month and a half we will really start to be able to say this is how parking needs to be I can't stress this enough that the everybody knows how the middle school and high school is somewhat chaotic um we are going to have a more structured expectation of how people can do it right now you know and there's nothing wrong with it because it works for everybody's family differently but we have some people that will come in and they'll drop their kid off at the high school

and then instead of pulling in and around and going back out they will then go and park in the um high school parking lot and let their middle schooler out to then walk across and that just not going to be able to work we're going to need to figure out what's going to work and then once we know what's going to work for the middle school and the high school we're going to need to say this is how it's going to have to be and having people come up with their own plans there's going to be one-way traffic because there's going to be construction fences and we might not be able to get around both sides of the high school um you know we've got to make sure that the flow of traffic is good

for emergency responders but in the morning and in the evening drop off and pick up we're going to be um hopefully having a plan and trying to get everybody to follow the plan uh but more communication will come from that um I'm excited with how it's going to come together and do you have anything to say Mr Myers no just uh fortunately we did the uh parking lot up at the top of the hill so their loss in parking is going to be more than adequate for what we're making up on top of the hill and uh with a new entrance to the high school during the construction it's actually going to be an IDE location for for our parking um and I just want to take U I use your word shout out to

uh to the team and we have every meeting here we have Architects we have Engineers we have interior design people we have our construction manager and every detail is just nailed down to the to the MTH degree um we spent a lot of time today on what's the are going to look like when start the building and where do we need to build temporary sidewalks to where and how do we keep the the community off of the construction area and how do we separate these things so a lot of thoughts going into it so it's not just a willy-nilly kind of deal that we're jumping into but uh a lot of a lot of plans and and really some good plans as well so any questions all right move on to individual board member comments

anyone have anything to see me get out of here tonight I see that I have nothing for my work member's prerogative and I don't believe we have a need for executive session this evening no sir all right and that means we don't have any action ons for executive session so we're roll right along last time is adjournment you like to make a motion to adjourn I'll make a motion thank you second I'll second okay thanks second thank you roll call please Kelly moer yes Greg Meyer yes Lisa schoemer yes Tyson search yes noran Frick yes andri Cy y perect that concludes our meeting thank you all very much for joining us
