yeah 7 and call meting it is now okay it's still 7 o'clock and we're calling the meeting to order again we start with the roll call please here here and here hereon here perfect that gives us the quum if anybody would stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance me please I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the repic for stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all perfect thank thank you have a good crowd here tonight thank you all for bearing the cold and come to join us this evening do have any public comments any like to say anything please Amber Haven um I am on the agenda tonight I submitted my resignation for the seventh grade girls basketball team and I just wanted

to say thank you for hiring me it was a very shortlived coaching position um I absolutely loved it but I had to resign just because my family of three young kids didn't really it didn't go very well at home but um I hope that it's in the future again so I just wanted to explain that because you just hired me in and now I'm resigning but I did want to say thank you for that um I have a second topic that I didn't know really where this went so I figured I would just bring it up now with the facility studies um I don't know how many of you I know Mr Grody does when you get to school you have to go through that you know Turnin where there's the McDonald's light and then

there's the turn into the high school and then you come up the hill to Park View um there's this unspoken rule that it's like a three-way stop during school drop off hours and if you're not in on the unspoken rule you're like do I let people go do I not let people go do I let people turn and it gets really stressful and so um there's like a f minute window where you're totally fine you can turn and traffic flows like normal or if you're 5 minutes later then you're stuck in this like I don't know so with the new building or the adding on to the building um I know you've already thought about transportation and ins and outs but if there was maybe stage for the start of next year to say maybe

like during this 40 minutes of school drop off time could we follow a three-way I don't know just a you're absolutely correct and next year we are going to strongly communicate exactly how people are going to go because the front of the building won't be the main access point they will be the main access point the front of the building will now be by the gym through that uh southernly Southern door there's a ticket booth that's over there and so we'll have a secretary there and they're building a vestibule and everything but like next year um the zippering cuz I I drive that every day is is um you're absolutely right and even if even though I don't I no longer turn in because my son now drives himself to the high school I still

stop because if you don't take turns you will get into an accident yeah really does work in that in that situation my third topic and this is the last one I promise um is that the science department was here um in November and requested some consideration for a schedule change or application to change the schedule for the April 8th um solar eclipse so that the student body could leave school hours um and not have to be pulled out on a regular school day and so the science department was just curious where we fall on that since we hadn't heard back from the survey and and all of that stuff so thank you perfect we actually that at the last meeting it was a discussion item so um and at this point in time we imagining

to change anything so we would be in session that day the survey actually suggested that the majority of the teachers did not want to change so the science people did but I don't think the majority wanted it so so I think the consensus was to leave it as is so anyone else all right we will move right into our consent agenda Mr gr can you walk us through that please yeah yeah we have a few resignations I do appreciate Miss Haven showing up to stress the fact that she'd love to see future coaching assignments and we would love to have you back when you're good and ready um we also have Patrick Baker uh High School assistant football coach he's resigning Jana Stewart from the Middle School yearbook co-sponsor uh Jessica janick from the high

school color guard um we have some leaves of absences danan gruin uh actually had leave from December 4th to January 3rd she's now back but we need for TRS purposes that to be approved uh Mara fiser 7th grade math will be from April to the end of the year uh we do have an extracurricular assignment uh Riley eoro ioro calling concert volunteer golf uh volunteer girl soccer uh we'd like to approve her hiring um and then we've got vacancies High School assistant football coach fifth grade teachers elementary teachers prek teachers and that prek is actually um going to be a certified special LED endorsed and that's going to be the replacement of the tuition-based program that we have that's currently not needing a certificate um so it's just it's moving it from a non-certified position

to a certified position um that we're posting for uh an elementary special ed teacher Eagle View and Park View currently share someone and we are expanding that and so um then the high school color guard and the seventh grade girls basketball coach so everything's pretty much Replacements except for slight change um a certified prek teacher would be more expensive than the non-certified oh it was a WR ah well then we also have a new bus driver that we'd like to add as a employee ah um Ellen Russell Frederick King Frederick king um I missed that I'm sorry uh and the Eagle View and Park View that's going from um we're adding a basically another person but Eagle View and Parkview will have a dedicated person and I think the teachers there would appreciate that uh

with all that said uh Administration recommends approval of the consent agenda comments questions check my notes at my table before I start he none would anybody like to make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented I'll make the motion thank you Tyson do I he a second I'll second thank you Kelly roll call please Karine Fredick yes Adam H yes Andre Cory yes Kelly moer Greg Meer yes Lisa schoemer yes Tyson search yes perfect move on to our Communications reports and presentations the enrollment report is in your packet yeah and the um just remember we had early grads last semester so the 20 people down at the high school I think that's the yeah our enrollment report never changes and it was down 20 students at the high school because graduation Perfect all

right and I don't believe we have a building report this evening correct well I'm gonna try and substitute it in here um Jean goer was going to be here tonight to talk about special ed um she got sick kept trying to stick it out stick it out and it just got the best of her so she is home so I'm going to try I may lean we have some special people in the audience so I may lean on them for some some help um but so the special ed department has been doing quite a bit of professional development this year they've been doing a lot with behavior management there's been a whole series um that several of our teachers took advantage of on IEP writing and strengthening that um those people that were a part

of that are now actually working together to kind of roll that out with even more of our staff members that weren't able to participate in that so that we can get everyone on board with our IEPs and and they're all in line and doing exactly what we need for our students um and then looking at also including this year a lot of the par professionals they are just as important as the classroom teachers in the roles that they play in supporting our students um with disabilities and so including them on different kinds of professional development as well has been a focus of the special ed Department um one of the things Jean said she had talked she's talked to you before about some of the different programs that we do with the ace Olympics and

the coffee Crews and all of that um but something that thanks to the hard work of all of the people involved in the special ed Department um if you look at that chart the very first column shows the percentage of special ed students um in a gen Ed setting um 80% or more of the time so as you kind of watch the first three sets of numbers you want that um those numbers to go higher in the first one the second one is the number of students so basically the students that are more in a self-contained type setting so we want the numbers in the second set of numbers to go down um same within the third those are students that are um self-contained almost the entire school day so we want that one to

go down as well and then the last one is our B our Blended prek and we want to see those numbers rise so you can see over the course of 3 years we are um doing an exceptional job in those Trends and getting that to happen and that's part of that prek job that was on that you approved a posting for tonight is so that we can add another Blended prek teacher um but the only way those numbers are working are because of several of those things um you know the the increased co- teing in classes the um inclusion the best buddies program quite a bit of things going on and while those are ideas that come up um it really is the implementation of the staff that makes those happen they have to be

on board they have to work hard to make sure that that gets done and sometimes be creative in how they get that to work um but our staff is exceptional in always being willing to do whatever they can or they need to um to include our specialized students and get them what they need so she was very excited about that data and and like I said she wanted me to make sure I shared how um proud she is of of all of the teachers that involved in that so I did not do it the justice that she did but that was the special ed report um so jumping into a few of the shoutouts that I have so I want to start with our high school custodial staff so Teresa Stevens Mike Kish um Josh

pet and Mike uh Goomer shimer um so our high school is our most visited and visible building um it not only always looks really great when you're inside and people are there for events um but all four of these custodial members are always greeting people that come in for night events they're always constantly asking if there's anything people need anything they want they go above and beyond to make sure that um we as a district are looking like we're um and representing our very best foot forward so can't thank them all enough for what they do at the middle school I want to give a shout out to Dave Jackson and Lany Randall they're two of our pair professionals um and again these are two people that go above and beyond to do whatever they

can um they also they both have outside Duty and with it being winter Administration to kind of talk to them about hey you want to take a break and maybe trade on and off with some people or swap it out and they're like no we're good it's our chance to see the kids and to talk so they do what they can in the classrooms but they're also willing to step up and do whatever it takes and they just truly enjoy being around the kids and making Middle School a great place to be um at Parkview Lauren Niti um she actually was in our cafeteria at the middle school and has stepped up and moved you approved her as a new head cook and she's now here at Parkview um and she is not only doing

a great job in the position but it's been really awesome to see her um grow as a person um and kind of taking over that leadership position that she's in and working really well um Parkview is starting to look at some different things that they can do for the kids but also make the kitchen more efficient and and um a positive experience in there as well so excited about that um at Eagle viiew I want to give a shout out to Tiffany Taylor um kind of fits in with that special ed presentation um looking at you know we're looking at now those writing the IEPs of getting students where they need to be um and she is always asking you know what can we do how can this look to get students out in gened

experiences more or making sure that we're meeting everything that we need like I said a lot of staff does that but just wanted to give Tiffany a shout out and then I'm going to throw in a bonus um Ralph Ron and uh uh don gesy are two of our drivers and monitors on a bus um we actually had a medical incident on a bus um not too long ago um we had a student that had a seizure and these two uh not only responded very quickly and um immediately but were able to help take care of that student that was having a medic medical need but also keep the rest of the bus calm everyone safe um they just stepped up did a fantastic job um and so wanted to give them a shout out

as well and we have a couple of um kind of awards or things that have been going on that just kind of wanted to give some people a shout out Matt Doogie is our scholar Bowl um coach at the high school and he just broke the record with his 302nd scholar Bowl win um so he now holds the record of the most um scholar B wins as a coach so wanted to give him a shout out U Mark sandstrom just re um earned and coached his 400th win in basketball so that was exciting and Scott Herer um has been selected to be inducted into the Illinois high school football coaches association hall of fame um and so he is actually going to be honored in Champagne uh in March being inducted into the the Hall

of Fame for this year so wanted to give him a shout out as well as far as what's been going on we've been doing a lot um second semester we started off January 3rd with our Institute day back with the teachers we started by looking at a lot of building data so we looked at um attendance datas in the building we looked at standardized test scores graduation rates um a lot of different information a lot of that's on our Illinois school report card um a lot of it is um just gathered within the building so we started by looking at that data and then okay we have this data now what do we do with it so then we started looking at how do we look at instruction and how will our instruction help to

either maintain those numbers or improve those numbers so we started talking about looking at our Focus standards and our supporting standards and making sure that everything is aligned with what's going on in our curriculum um we're going to start talking about instructional strategy uh looking at how things are done what our Core Curriculum like our vertical alignment is as well as you know that all grade levels are doing the same thing in the classrooms um so we looked at that in an instruction then We're translating that into how does our instruction reflected in our assessments so we started talking about making high quality assessments ensuring that there are multiple levels we're starting to dig into the depth of knowledge of questions what makes a a high quality research piece of assessment um once we work

through and do all that which is a lot of work even though the teachers have already started in on a lot of it um then the cycle just continues so then we will do all that Implement all these things and then continue to go back and monitor the data so this is kind of a cyclical cycle that we've already started um we've done bits in pieces but now we're putting it all together and formulating it and really making it that inquiry based Circle of Knowledge as we go through with what we're doing and then inserting the professional development as needed to support those areas so that is what has been going on and is going to be kind of the focus of our halfday the rest of the school year this year and that is

all I have oh no that's Mr broy he gets a slide tonight I get a turn I actually added a slide but we're going to talk with me first um I've got three things I really want to bring up one um I feel like I need to address Tuesday we had 10% absence um it pretty much every building was around 9 to 11% absence I'll all said across the district it was 10% absent that includes people that were on vacation and others that were actually sick so we had a really good attendance day we've had cold and flu Seasons that were worse than that um I did receive a few emails and one phone call regarding the decision to be in session uh none of them were favorable uh I know that there there were

people that agreed with me I did read the Facebook posts and some of the arguments back and forth um if we would have been out I would have gotten similar emails and phone calls because on snow days I just I'm not that bad of a person honestly but um it is what it is I do want to say that parents always have the right to keep their students at home we talked last week about treny and an average student is absent seven times a year okay and so Seven's around the ballpark of what you really want to go to if keeping your home on a snow day brought you past seven you probably should really think about the attendance things however it's your child and and if you felt like it was too cold to

go to school then by all means keep them home I get it I also want to say that e-learning sounds good but let's all reflect back to a couple of years with covid no one liked e-learning and I don't think that it should ever be used except for when they keep us out of school for long long terms um and then late starts they sound great but logistically that snow day becomes like the first week of school where people say when's the bus going to get there and then you miss your spot the kids end up staying out longer and waiting longer with a snow day and the high school parking lot's not going to change in an hour and a half with a late start to make it safer for the high school kids

uh high schools do do late starts more than um unit districts like we are however um oftentimes they'll call for a late start and then they end up calling the day anyway because they get beset with questions of when's my bus coming just logistically I think the the ti the TR the tried and true method of you're either in school or you make it up at the end of the year is the way to go um we were in school on Tuesday we will be in school tomorrow it'll be warmer than it was Tuesday uh we're revisiting Tuesday on Saturday this week should be very very cold with wind chills on Saturday but um that's the one thing I wanted to address second thing and this is where we go to the slide St Baldrick

is something that the middle school has done pro Atwell and Matt Kendall do this every year other people get involved I got inspired when I found out about it that it's for Childhood Cancer um and so I agreed to be a shavey that is my why my hair has gotten long and because I'm going to be bald on April 6th my last haircut was the day before school started my next haircut is April 6th it was a great idea when I first started thinking about it but honestly I'm ready to get it shaved tomorrow uh but this supports Childhood Cancer it's well worth the cause and and honestly you I came here in 2020 this in my mind epitomizes Colombia it's just the community coming together to do things like this it's it's a wonderful

uh experience and um I might shave my head again but I'm never going a year without it being trimmed at least again ever um anyway if you want to participate in St Baldrick if you can reach out to our teachers or um yeah just ask somebody you can donate or you can become a shave I told Alysa Smith that you know maybe next year we could get all of administration to participate I was not a fan of that donate just not my hair the third item is just the fact that we have no need for closed session this evening so um we've got that's it perfect we offer those reports our only item for Action is the second reading and approval of the board policy press issue 113 I believe this is uh updates for

the residents yeah this is um a residency report we had this as part of our board policy I did put a page that would explain what the policy would read for non-student residents if we chose to allow um School Employees to be able to register their kids um I sent out the survey it 166 responses uh roughly the first question that we asked was do you live outside the district and if so do you have or would you have a child okay and and then if if if that's the case would you send your kid to the district if you if this was an option and we got um about 29 that indicated that they would okay now some of those I I took the names off of the surveys so when you read the

comments you wouldn't see who they were but I know personally that some of the people that said yes they would have no children some of them aren't even married yet but they live outside the district and they do plan to have kids at some point in time and so they said yeah I would totally bring my kid here um much like a snow day the feelings on this issue are divided and somewhat passionate the majority of people did support the idea that this would help with Recruitment and Retention um the other side I think the most adamant was just the fact that you know our classes are full this is taxpayer dollars um um if they want to have their kids go here they can move here uh you guys read the comments that were

there uh this is one of those issues where I honestly I don't have a recommendation I I I can see both sides um and that said there's often a time where I'm not a heck yeah so I'm a no but I'm not a heck no either and so um I will step back and let you all discuss this so you said there were 29 yeah roughly 29 and I was counting it on Excel and so um from the responses I sent you you could I wanted you to do your own tallies CU I have been known to get distracted and then go back to Excel and end up having a tally mark on an extra thing but they're off maybe by two or three yeah just a rough estimate I guess my question would be

if you take that number some don't even have and you spread that across all the different ages even if our classes are full is it really going to make that big of an impact if it could mean that we bring in it probably wouldn't cost us another teacher right so right so we could potentially get more you know qualified teachers that want to come and stay because of that I just I don't know personally that I see the negatives outweigh the positives as a superintendent that was at a district that had this policy in effect what you see is that they attend your they will they will bring their kids to your District until like junior high or high school um typically high school once they start doing Athletics and doing things of that nature

they usually go back to their home school or once they're old enough to get to school and come home and they don't need to be supervised it's really more for the elementaries that they want to bring their kids to the district that they work in because it's just more convenient for a lot of reasons um so you don't see them so much at the middle school and high school that doesn't mean that they wouldn't I'm I'm just telling you that what I what I've experienced a lot of times you'll see have a kid up until 8th grade and then they'll go back to their home District or and I I've received when this came up at the last meeting I was pretty much for it my main concern was the cost I wanted to do

our due diligence um I've received several phone calls none of them for it um got two calls from teachers and the teachers that I spoke with um were worried about that it wasn't Equitable that basically we're playing favoritism wor we're elevating some without elevating all so that was the other was from taxpayers that feel that it would incentivize people to move to the community instead of disin to to go so again I'm I'm still on the fence on this but the comments I could see that that was the only other thing that was going my head for districts that do allow people to register the calculation for tuition is done by um the operating expenses divided by the per pupil and our AFR has our tuition should we allow people to register here that don't

live here they would have to pay 9,000 9,870 to register their kid at our district that is our operating expenses per pupil expend um again if we allow the employees and they would be the only we still wouldn't allow non-resident people except for our employees and we would not charge them 9,870 we would just allow them to come I'm also kind of on the fence with this um just I feel like I spoke with Mr Grody and I feel like it needs to go a little bit deeper into the community um there are a lot of high- based taxpayers in this community um and that seems to be the ones that would com kind of complain about this is you know they're paying all of the taxes you know these people don't live in our

district and so I I think I think it needs to be you know further into the community as far as a survey well as it stands now the first reading was as presented where it does not allow for tuition free in the district we were trying to override that from our actions so what I would recommend is we leave today with either a no or a yes on this and if we go with a no you can do it as a no we don't want to do it period end of story we could do it as a no we don't want to do it however we'd like to send out a a survey to the whole Community um I know how to do that to all the parents uh I would like to get some

of the non-p parents so I would probably reach out to the city to see how they would do a survey that way um we could post it on the website maybe uh that way we can at least get this policy this this press policy round brought up and then we could bring it back next month and revisit the policy just a matter of two readings else yeah I mean I guess I'm kind of on the fence too I thought I was more for it though I thought the positives outweigh the negatives as far as especially from a recruitment and retention I like that idea aspect so well then I I don't know I I guess I I'm trying to play a little Devil's Advocate I'm definitely on the fence but I'm trying to play a

little devil's advocate here of you know what if there is a fantastically qualified teacher that we would be super blessed to have but can't can't live in the community would want to maybe but due to a spouse having a job somewhere else or whatever the situation may be can't do it but would love to have the opportunity to be here and it would help them to be able to also bring their kids here until like you said you know high school or whatever and then they so I don't know I I'm still like I see both Sid I definitely see both sides I I don't want to Veer people out of our community either and say oh hey you know you can go live wherever you want go move out of Columbia and you can

still do I don't want that but I don't know that to me I guess I feel like a lot of people love that they live here and they're closer to work if they have the opportunity to get to live here so I I don't know I'm I'm trying to see both sides I'm not necessarily against it I think that like I shared with you when I emailed you about I think we need to look at things maybe for our current teachers that we already have that we can help serve them even better versus trying to recruit people people that aren't even here yet and serve them better is kind of how I feel about it but what do we do for the teachers that don't have kids and are they getting are we putting them

at a disadvantage because we're giving another you can be in the next classroom and have a $99,000 a year advantage over your coworker that's yeah again I I love the idea I I'm not saying I'm against this like at all what I'm saying is I think that we have other things that we could look at if we're considering this we also need consider some other things for our current staff to serve them better too what's a big nobody knows huh okay so let me ask some questions do you want me to send out a survey to the parents and do you want me to post a survey on the website for community members the problem with the opening it up I can do it with the parents easily through Skyward the community members is you

always in in the back of my mind I'm wondering you know I don't know how I would make sure that people didn't go in and answer at five times I don't know how I would make sure that somebody from New York wasn't answering our survey um I'm sure there's ways to do it I I would need to figure that out um doing the parents I could do that very easily I could send out a survey and see what what what they think is that interesting or are we not there I'm always interested in people's opinions I mean it's you know we we serve the public and can you table this another month and do a parent survey we can um it becomes bothersome because I'd like this this this to be resolved and then reopen

it so in my mind closing the because you got to go in you got to answer all the questions within a certain time this one did have a specific question I'd like to answer it no and then do the first reading again next month with the survey and and talk about it again um that way it would at least get it get this press policy that comes as a batch out of the out of the queue and then we could address the individual policy again has the teachers union weighed in on this at all or have they been asked um other than the survey to the employees and the and and again that was the cea and the sespa and even the bus drivers who are not cea or cespa um were able to answer

that I did not disaggregate the data based on whether or not they're a teacher or a yeah um suspa or a noncertified person and the majority was is that what you said the majority was no was what was no no most of them were favorable of the of the ones that lived in District and out of District most people said oh I can see how that would be good the ones that were against it were um passionately against it against it's it's you know and so and then there were a lot that just had no comment you know like I really have no opinion on this matter and you know I said when when it came up last month I was off I thought it was a great idea but I didn't realize there were

so much on both sides on this one so many strong feelings I guess like so I don't know if I got clear on whether or not you want me to survey the parents exactly okay good enough well I mean we have to do something so what are we I I would say since none of us seem to be very well let's move forward I think we should adopt the Press policy as written and we investigate this in the future and go ahead and do our surveys let's get some more input and find out so you want me to send out a a parent survey yeah I mean I I don't want to make a decision based on one or two people either I mean it's if that's the if that's the pulse of everyone that's

different than you no matter what we do we're going to upset a couple people that's we're kind of used to that by now so okay I will um have a very specific question are you in favor of this or not in favor of this I will also allow them to write comments um unless you tell me otherwise I think it's good to be able to read the comments because you get a sense of where their yes and where their no is because a lot of yeses were like yeah I could go either way and a lot of the NOS were yeah but now the survey we sent out was it was just a do you have and would you yeah and then everybody got a chance to to make a comment okay so perfect so

I will survey parents and the recommendation is to approve policy 760 um with the question being answered no with the understanding that this is a soft no and we will revisit soft no I like that I appreciate it because I I do want to get this off our don't but that's fine what was that super soft no on my I I I I I support it and I don't I don't think we need to do another survey so I'd be not agreeing to that you'd be you'd be yes for letting the the employees I think I'm kind of there with angry too yeah no I I don't think I mean we're surveying the people that we surveyed the first time were the teachers and the employees and that's I mean and Lisa has a good

point going deeper into the community but we if we do Skyward we're doing everybody um and and that's not really who it's affecting other than they being a taxpayer you know and and that matters but I you know I'm in favor of allowing this to happen so I I don't feel the need to do another survey is that a motion no I'm just saying how I feel I mean Chris is making a motion I probably not he can't make a motion well I'm saying he's asking there to be a motion I probably would not agree with it and I guess that's why I was double-checking what the majority was I mean we did that to kind of see the majority and the majority just because there were a couple loud NOS the majority was still

overall in that first survey saying that they would they were yes they were yes that's my hesitation also people complain more than they absolutely than they compliment so and like you said we're not going to make everybody happy I mean if if at the end of it I I do think that it would be more beneficial than it would be harming but that's just me I I see I see it I see both sides I see I'm not saying I don't see the other side I don't see the other opinions you know I I get that I respect them but I just I don't know I don't I don't see enough negative in it if it could bring people in that could take over positions that we have vacancies for so we've got three speaking

very positively about it so far I think I'm the only one that hasn't spoken on this your turn well I'll tell I I look at it from a retention perspective I mean as a having managed a lot of people and dealing with turnover and the retraining and you know acclimating people to the culture um I mean I'm all for Recruitment and Retention aspect of it my big question previously was what real impact would this have on the district and would this really result in a a true direct cost I guess if you will to the taxpayer and if we won't have to hire additional staff if it's going to be you know 30 or so amongst 2,000 students um I I I think retention costs a lot more than that retraining hiring recruiting and the

loss of teachers that are quite often multiple years into their tenure that we've worked with I think retaining teachers is much more valuable than an implied cost or a potential cost that isn't a real cost I should know this off the top of my head and I apologize to all of the teachers in the room for not having this information readily available do we what what are our class sizes in the early grades right now they in the it depends on the grade level so our like kindergarten and first grade classrooms are smaller um second grade we have a large student population so we added an extra teacher there this year but they're in like the 18 to 20 range at kindergarten first and second and then they jump to between the 20 and 24

range and second third and fourth and we've got so how many students would it take to come in at a grade level for us to have to add a teacher is really I think what I'm depends on the grade level like our second grade is maxed and we're already looking at what are we going to do about next year so I would say like if someone has a third grader next year that could be the Tipping Point between hiring another teacher and not but our you know our fourth grade class is pretty small so if somebody has a fifth grader coming in next year that would would so I don't know that I can answer that question in a blanket statement but based on our staffing right now you would think that worst case scenario

we would have to maybe add one teacher but really the odds of that would be but if it's if one student is the differentiator just a random person your family moving into town could be the same could do the same thing I mean it wouldn't you know it's not it's not that one drop of that overfills the bucket right you know it's the accumulation of all of them until that so I mean yeah if changing this policy means we we get 15 more students and then one grade ends up with a teacher I mean that's I guess that that would be somewhat of a direct cost but there's also 130 other students that were already there that were probably in maxed out classes that might benefit from a smaller class size I think my other

my other question and concern maybe more to your point now as I'm like listening and I'm thinking through this is what would that mean for the current teachers are they do they have to be worried about losing their jobs do they have to wor or is it just you know when we're talking about retention and are we just strictly talking about filling vacancies and being able to hire when we need new people you know what I mean I just I don't want I don't want any current you know employees to fear that they would potentially lose their their current positions because that the the the the desire to look into this was because with the current um job market of Education we've got districts that are willing to look at veteran teachers and give them

all of their years of experience which school districts hadn't done for a long time and so we were losing teachers to other districts because the district was saying well I'll give you your 20 years of experience why don't you come over here and be where you know where if they were here they lived close enough they could have brought their kid here and then they wouldn't necessarily if they brought their kid here they would be not leaving us after 20 years to okay that's the that's the retention aspect of it and sorry I didn't mean to S side step like you were saying as far as like cost and all that I was just you said retention and my mind went toward making sure that the current well I even look at the younger ones

when I think retention I think of the ones that we may be hired straight out of college now they're a few years in they're ready to have start having kids or their kids have gotten to school age and I believe you know and then you lose them to a neighboring Town wherever they live because their kids are now school age and they don't want to work in a different town than their kids are going to school it's just I mean but the arguments there's arguments again every way that you can look at it but that's a that's really where I mean where I was at so so I'm hearing that the we've got we'd like to survey the parents and say no this time and I've got some people that say we don't need to

survey the parents we we're yes this time right okay just making sure I understand where we're all at um well again I mean I I'm on the fence on this I am not committed one way or the other I'm kind of leaning towards if if I mean we have four sounds like four yeses so you guys have enough votes to make it happen I mean we we are here to look out for the best in interest of this district and if this is the best interest of the district then I'm all for as well but I'm just cautious as to I want to be fair to everybody and and I want to create the best possible working environment that we can for our employees so is there anybody that wants to make a Mo that's

my life see how long we can all sit here and stare at each other waiting it's our only action item for tonight so good thing we have another midnight meeting so I I mean I'll go throw go and throw the motion out there that we do allow non-resident teachers to send their children here all right so your motion to adopt the Press policy with the change of allowing non-resident teachers to enroll their children tuition free yes perfect okay I'll second that we have a second all right roll call please Adam Hunkin yes Andre Cory yes Hy Moyer yes Greg Meer sure Mr Sher no Tyson yes Marine freder yes all right carries all right well I hope it works all right shoot those are all our action items so that's good we go into our

discussion items which is start off with our facility study um we had a meeting today June 4th is going to be a special board meeting and it will be the approval of the bids for the civil FasTrack work this will get the the um the site up and running for the construction June 4th we've got uh Mr henkins able to make that date and Mr Meyers is able to make that date uh We've not yet set the time of that I just want you to be aware we we need at least four people at that meeting to approve the bids um this is again we're trying to do it as once they get the documents ready and they go out to bid we want to be able to act on it as quick as possible

so so that we can get the the everything started um so June 4th I will send out an email tomorrow but I'm hoping that four of you can find it in your schedules at least love to see all sub of you here but U and then in two months or so we should be ready to have a community Forum to share out the progress and the plans for the high school and uh I think we should be pretty locked down in two months um if we're not I will be very disappointed but um I believe we will be uh those are the two key things from the facility meeting that I pulled is there anything that you two want to add um the only thing one area that we talked about quite a bit was

the auditorium I know we've talked in generalities about it but um the one thing about it is it will seat in exess of 450 they were talking numbers is but uh that that is the desired goal so we will have that ability uh we are working on planning to put the infrastructure in for a lot of the the rigging the sound systems the lights all that stuff um a lot of the equipment probably won't be purchased right away uh due to budgetary constraints but we are putting in the infrastructure so we can buy the pieces and parts later but we don't have to worry about the structure and the infrastructure being there and all the wiring and stuff will already be in place for what we are projecting so we are planning it as though

it's going to be fully outfitted as a a fully uh a full venue for all of the Arts uh but it will not be uh we will not have all of the equipment um with the intent of adding the nicer features and functions as we as the budget allows in the future so I will also add um everything Adam said was absolutely spoton the part of the the the issue we're having is is we are trying to make sure we we hold firm on the budget um they designed the auditorium and the academic area and the administrative offices first because that's the phase one of what they're building uh we don't have many things to speak about regarding the gymnasium only because they are now kicking it more into gear to get the gymnasium designed

because as we look at um the cuts we don't want to cut everything from phase one without knowing what phase 2 is involved and you know because we want to make sure that the gymnasium and the auditorium are equal in its uh in its scope you know we're going to design it for what we need we're meaning that everything's going to be ready for things to be added as we can but uh part of those decisions are going to come because we've got to do a little bit more of phase two design because when you look at the budget you want to make sure that both sides are am I saying that right um are looked at yeah so um you know our gymnasium is going to be two floors and it might have a

walking Track and if it doesn't have a walking Track it will have a walking Track at some point it's just whether like our Auditorium will have a big screen projector at some point you know cuz this is what we're designning it to be used for but that's the in hopefully in two months we'll have a much better idea about the gymnasium too and be able to have a really nice Community unveiling presentation sure open house that open house that'll come after excuse me thank you any else all right individual board member comments have anything like to share this evening president prerogative I'm good for tonight as Mr G alluded we have no executive session so that means there's no action items following the executive session the only thing left is adjournment I may like to

make a motion to adjourn I'll make the motion to so second I'll second second all in favor that concludes our meeting it is 7:52 thank you all for attending
