trump music [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] thank you very jazz ensemble much i am christian avis rouse uh the director of bands at columbia high school um this is not my instrument so bear with me tonight um you'll notice uh we have some holes in the in the jazz ensemble occasionally we'll have our piano player hop up and play tuba and we don't have a bass guitarist right now because we got luke on sax so we're just kind of filling in everywhere to try and make everything fit [Music] all right thank you for being here with us tonight and thank you to those who are on the live stream as well so glad we could do that for those who can't be here in person our next piece we're going to play

is the answer is in the blues this is kind of like our warm-up piece so um part of being in a jazz ensemble is learning to improvise or playing a solo that is not written just making it up on the fly and so we've been using this piece because it's 12 blues which is um kind of the easiest form of of jazz to improvise over so we'll have quite a few people soloing on this one we have michael cassetta on alto sax aiden sullivan on trombone lou colbine i'm aldo sax and because i'm a sucker i will be performing a scat solo [Applause] and then we will have luke and michael will be training twos which is really a cool thing so they'll be kind of back and forth and then also conor daly on

the drum set so here is oh [Music] hey [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] me [Music] time [Music] um [Music] hmm [Music] [Applause] uh thank you very much um i think it needs to be said you do not have to remain in your seats at all this this concert is a jazz cafe style so feel free to get up and eat and drink and dance if you want uh we're going to play some box so they might make you want to move there's there's some open floor right next up we are going to play cool which is by leonard bernstein it is from west side story and it is going to feature alex balum on trumpet and again connor daley on drums [Applause] [Music] um [Music] uh [Applause] [Music] my [Music] i [Music] bye

[Applause] [Music] um [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] [Applause] we're going to do our best to not fly through this concert but because i'm nervous it's gonna happen um so i'm making sure to take time and talk in between each of these at least um next up is soulful strut if you've ever seen the parent trap this this piece is in there um this song will feature alyssa meinen on tenor sacks and again connor daily on the drum center [Applause] here we go [Music] um [Music] this me [Music] hey ah [Music] hey [Music] hmm [Applause] a little transition here uh luke's gonna get up and move to base now um and then after this piece we're gonna take a short break because it's hot up here i think we need we all need some

water i think only i have a water bottle up here is that true i remembered to tell myself but i did remember [Music] okay our next piece uh we're gonna take it back a little bit play a bit of a ballad a slower tune and this is here there and everywhere which is a beatles tune now this is a jazz arrangement so it might not sound familiar to you but um [Music] it's a good tune and if you haven't heard of it look it up after this uh we are going to feature on this one alyssa einen the whole time it's like the whole pieces are solo so you can clap every time she stops playing but she's just gonna keep going all right so here we go here it is here there and everywhere

thank you [Music] you [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] so [Music] [Applause] when i handed it to her she was like are you serious but she got it um we're gonna take a brief break uh just so everybody can get some water you can go talk to your people for a minute let's let's bring it back in 7 35. if you're not playing are you okay um it must be going down this uh our next piece is a latin tube called the last night of the bengal it will feature tony newcombe on trumpet [Applause] [Music] uh cassetta on alto mason mills on alto [Applause] connor daley [Applause] and uh ryden clever will be playing some hawks percussion so look out for [Applause] there you that here we go [Music] hello [Music] so [Music] do [Music]

so [Music] hey [Music] [Applause] all right ask connor daley after this concert how much he likes playing straight notes for the entire piece he's getting tired i didn't ask you to talk now [Music] all right uh our next piece is another ballad uh this one is embraceable you which is by uh george and ira gershwin uh featured in the musical girl crazy and also crazy for you which is a shortened version of that one this piece will feature sami herman on [Music] trumpet michael cassetta on alto [Applause] and alyssa heinen on tenor [Applause] and we welcome brock kruger to the tuba chair [Applause] [Music] um [Music] do [Music] foreign [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] um me [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right thank you very much that was embraceable youth next we have

will it go around in circles by billy preston uh earlier when i mentioned the bob's little makey dance this is one of them this song will feature mason mills on altosax zach o'leary on trumpet and riley fleming on central [Applause] foreign [Music] do [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] uh [Music] um [Music] so [Applause] i've got to give credit where credit is due um the end of that piece says optional repeat and um yes it was it was luke he said why don't we repeat it a couple times to get quieter each time to fade out and then tricks on them will play loud at the end [Applause] and i'm very happy to allow this elite group to help with the creative process and uh so that's that's part of it that's part of what it's like

being in jazz we just kind of throw ideas up in the air we might try them and they might not work but that was a keeper for sure before we play our last tune i would like to recognize our seniors because we do have a different jazz ensemble in the spring semester um so here we go oh this is one sided sheet well here we go uh seniors we have michael cassetta and mason mills on alto set home [Applause] this one hurts zach o'leary alex blum tony nukem on trump [Applause] luke holline on base and on alto center [Applause] brock kruger on piano and on two books and power daily on centro i didn't forget anyone did i yeah okay all right that's good all right our last piece we're going to play for you
