002a little bit about that last week in the game and uh you said you know fond memories as you were making the drive back up here with me tonight yeah i mean you got to be ready when you come up here and play jerseyville these guys fly around and they they like to get their hats to the football so columbia coming into uh tonight they need to be ready for some big hits in a big week nine match up eagles come into the game four and four jerseyville's coming in two and six they have their senior night they had about 20 people i think out there for the band about 10 cheerleaders and i think 10 seniors so they're going through all of their festivities as you look across the way there the eagles are
003heading into the locker room to get those final preparations in a game that um last week when we played central we did everything we wanted to do we had those third and long opportunities for the defensive side of the ball and we just gave up those first downs and then we got the ball into the red zone got it into the 10-yard line we just couldn't get it in that was the first shutout since 2005 against brees eagles losing last week 20 to nothing and they came several different location occasions like i said first and goals uh one interception a couple of them just three and outs um jared you look at that game though we had that missed field goal early in the game and when they have those close games like that you
004need to catch a break and they had that tipped field goal had it not been tipped that's a roughing the kicker and then we get a first down yeah there was a lot of big plays that happened last week and that was uh i believe one of my coaches keys or last week's were taking away those big plays and they had two or three of those that uh cost us the game and we didn't even get any points on the board um but our defense played really well i'm hoping tonight our offense can come out and sling it around a little bit and vaguely can get himself in the end zone mcconaughey they put up some points last weekend or some yardage i guess i should say had 171 yards rushing vaguely though passing wise
005going three for 15 for 20 yards he had the two picks one of which happened we had the ball in the three-yard line late in the game there and uh that pretty much sealed the deal so but you're getting 171 yards rushing 133 of them are coming from mcconaughey is averaging seven yards of carry so we moved the ball we did what we needed to do when it boils down to it you know three and three times inside the seven that's 21 points potentially you lose the game 20 to nothing math serves correctly i think that gets you a victory so you know that's just something that we're gonna have to just you can't have that happen in those kind of games and that's just what happened with us but defensively like you said we
006did what we needed to do yeah and i think coming out on the offensive side of the ball tonight we might see coach horner use some stuff that he hasn't used all year it's a pretty good coaching staff over here in jerseyville so um he's probably got a couple tricks up his sleeve that he put in this week just so he can get to that week 10 match up and get out of here with the win defensively like we were saying we gave up a bunch of yards off on the ground and through the air and it just boiled down to it we had those long situations we gave up 189 yards though through the air and like we said we got those third and eights third and fifteens and then all of a sudden
007it was a 30 yard pass and that just kept those drives going gave up 118 yards on the ground and really it came from two different running backs so we did a great job containing that but then like i said 10 for 18 passing for 190 yards and the big receiver last week was uh braden reverman with 123 yards so they kind of i don't want to say they picked on any one in person in particular but they just found some voids and they just made the plays when they needed to yeah and i mean whenever we were shutting down the the run game almost the whole game they had nothing else to really go to besides those deep balls and we were getting beat on them and um up front we played really well
008linebackers played really well and hopefully uh tonight our secondary can can chip in as well and all together as one big defense we can get out of here with maybe a zero on the scoreboard we absolutely have the opportunity to jerseyville gives up a lot of points this year and they're not scoring too many but before we get into all of that we're gonna head into a break and then we will talk about the conference standings well we don't have to talk about conference standings it's over congratulations bree central we'll talk playoff pairings and everything like that and see what the outlook looks for whenever we return to the ace's wild pregame show after this [Music] welcome back in ladies and gentlemen today's wild pre-game from jerseyville high school where the eagles and the panthers
009are going to take off in a week nine match up on a chilly night the first time me and jared have had to been outside this year so jared's already got the hood up he's rocking back and forth he didn't bring his gloves though so we'll see by the end of the night i'm sure he's going to make a comment about not having those those gloves but you know whenever it comes to this part of the season you got to love the weather yeah and i'm not i guess i'll say we're only rolling on uh one microphone tonight because this guy forgot to bring two microphones up here so you don't have to call me out on that so we talked about columbia needing to get a win to get in so columbia's coming in
010four and four got to have five wins to get you into the playoffs possibly then it comes down to the playoff points and um opponents wins is another way of saying that so after that after that loss in week eight columbia is listed listed at 33rd position they only take 32 so columbia's the first team out currently if we look at the games that are coming up tonight we're looking at a couple of opponents that we could get some playoff points from you look at mosquitoes got a shot at getting a win freebird in waterloo you know you're going to get a win marquette we're not too sure what's going to happen with them and quincy notre dame salem you'd like to think can get you a win um east alton could sneak out of
011redbud sparta could get a win with a i'm sorry roxanna could get a win with sparta breeze central you'd like to hope gets one from heron so say columbia wins that gets us to those five wins that we need and then you get us up to those 37 playoff points that's a chance that you could get in because you never know sometimes 35 points get you in but sometimes you might need 42 to get you in yeah and if you look across the board you got a couple four and four teams this week you got salem and redbud and then you got us two that are fighting for that last win to try to get get their name in there to get that last playoff spot but no matter what i mean if it's almost
012a must must win if you lose your your season's over so you've got to come out ready tonight and show them that you're ready for the playoffs and we were looking earlier on the way down we were looking at the ihsa's website there's a couple teams that are sitting at that five and three mark that have some tough wins or tough games of them tonight so say they don't get that win that drops them to five and four and they were sitting at say 20 playoff or 29 playoff points was a was a common number that i was seeing today too so there's a lot that can be done tonight there's a lot that has to be done tonight but when it boils down to it we just got to get that w to get
013us into the playoffs so with all that being said let's talk tonight talk to coach horner a little bit he just said you know just gotta get in get the victory he's two and two um against the panthers here and columbia is two and two against the panthers so when it boils down to it two evenly evenly matched teams yeah and they're going to run the ball a lot um something like we saw last week their quarterbacks only thrown not even 50 passes this year and they they run the ball a crap ton i mean they got 106 attempts by their top guy and then down the line i mean you got two more guys that have over 50 attempts on the season so um it's going to be a tough tough night again for
014the up front and linebackers but i think we can do it again like we did last week and then our secondary will be able to come alive again and hopefully our defense will all be working as one tonight like i was saying earlier they give up a bunch of points there's more games than not that they're getting up 30 points plus and then they're not really scoring that much so i'd like to see our offense get out there tonight slinging around a little bit i know dom vaguely has been nursing an injured hand since that freebird game so be nice to see him rebound after that three for 15 performance no touchdown passes obviously in those two picks so it'd be nice to see him turn it around get some completions back there again but
015mcconaughey just like to see him do what he did last couple weeks yeah and we like we were talking uh about on the way up here um he's he needs to bust one of these kickoff return or punt returns i think you said we've scored on almost every other uh thing that you can possibly score on i mean we've had a safety we've had a interception for a touchdown we'd have a fumble for a touchdown and a rushing and passing one but we need a special teams touchdown this week so i think uh mcconaughey needs to bus one this week and hopefully uh he can get in the end zone and coach kendall make uh be really happy on that sideline and that's something we've talked to coach kendall you know before the games and
016we joke with them you're gonna get one this week he goes i'm trying i'm working on it i'm trying well you know what you're about out of time to keep trying you're just gonna have to get in there coach kendall so no pressure on you but you're gonna have to get in there we're about 10 minutes away here from kickoff they're the panthers marching bands now making their way out onto the field you look across the way not too many people on that columbia sideline here tonight but hopefully the players are able to get going and get out and get that victory that we're going to need oh so importantly here tonight jared what are your three keys tonight i know you talked to coach germain throughout this week what do you think the three
017keys are to getting out here with a victory i think we just do the same thing we did last week uh all starts off up front with our d-line and our linebackers if they can stop the run a little bit and force them to throw the ball a little bit force them in those third longs i think that's going to be huge for the defense and then horner coach horner can get that offense rolling um another key i would say is getting vaguely the ball in his hands getting him running the ball a little more i think if we can get him out in open space and a lot of good things can happen and then my third key would probably just be uh look to your seniors because your s this could possibly be
018their last game of their career um seniors got to go out and act like it's their last game they're playing so um long bus ride up here uh i'm hoping for a for a good one tonight and you know that's something we've said a lot this year is you know we need that guy to be the it factor to be that guy and we haven't had anybody step up so i'd like to see somebody step up when we need that play you know last week you look hey we need to play we need to stop we need something to happen to change the momentum we couldn't get that so i'd like to see somebody tonight step up and do it early get this this two and six panthers team get them on their heels and
019then we can just take over and have control of the game from start to finish yeah and if you get up early i mean like we said earlier they don't pass the ball very much and it's hard for a running a run based team to come back from two three scores um deficit so um if coach horner can can get some points up on the board early and maybe we can get this clock rolling and we can get out of here maybe get a running clock and uh look for our playoff picture uh next week so the playoff picture that's going to be a whole nother mess of everything that we're going to have to look at 256 teams will make the playoffs you don't want to be that 257. so the playering show will

022you see him get him shut out period yeah but very rarely do you see him get shut down let's say and then that next week he's going to let you know that hey for a pretty tough offense here that i'm in control of and you know columbia's been known everybody likes those points and like seeing those points defensively we don't give up a bunch but offensively he's going to put those up week in and week out yeah and he's got the playbook to do it i mean me and you both know uh he's he's got a lot up his sleeve and he's got a lot of knowledge of the game and um he can he can go anyway i mean he can he puts his players in the best position to win and i mean

025the thought growing through your mind is all right we gotta win get yourself a good spot and good seed and we were able to get away with the victory you go six and three and you never know when you're five and four you might play that number one team who is 9-0 and just dominant but you might get the way that the uh the pairings were looking right now you might run into an 8-1 or even a 7-2 team it's probably going to be an 8-1 but it just depends and you never know who you're going to get and that team i mean could be like a breeze central team like we talked about on the way up here and um i mean last week you saw like we played so close with them and
026we had the ball inside the the five yard line for i would say 10 to 12 straight plays not straight plays but but plays and i think uh any team like that if your defense can keep you in the game um i trust coach horner to put some put some points on the board and maybe escape with a win but um no matter what um we're worried about tonight and getting this win um in jerseyville and you know i look at last week as a game of missed opportunities um we just we had a couple shots of getting a turnover we just couldn't capitalize we were within striking distance a couple times of getting a pick of getting a fumble i think there was a couple foamer recoveries that they recovered so it's a game
027of missed opportunities last week obviously yeah you got to put that behind you but say we do go in and we draw central you don't go into that game thinking oh shoot we were just shut out by him a couple weeks ago you know five and four you go in you're playing an eight and one central team anything can happen and yeah who's been your rival for how many years and coach horner has played against bree central so many times so um yeah i mean if that happens that that'll be a that'll be a crazy crazy atmosphere that could be a fun one well you hear the drumline coming in they're going to be leading the panthers out onto the field got a pretty good setup here in jerseyville we got the concession stand down

032it's gonna go right up the middle nothing fancy and it's gonna be good for about a six yard gain and i think that's what we're going to see all night tonight yeah you're going to see a lot of motion you're going to see those uh sniffer backs like we use all the time and you might see those running backs in the backfield putting their uh their hand in the ground so that linebacker can't really see where they're at didn't get to say sam denny's name much last week i think he only had about four or five tackles nothing special but he's in there making that first tackle tonight now we're gonna have doubles on the left side gonna be a dive right up the middle with number nine it's gonna be good for three yards
033and that's a quick dive there with that full back [Music] nine only has 15 carries on the air for 43 yards that must be his play right there just get those 15 carries for 43 yards he's just he's just getting running two three yards get the first down on my phone quarterback under center again there's be a motion man it looks like that motion man it's going to be a blitz right on the outside and that's what it's going to happen great job by dominic vaguely forcing it back to the inside and the rest of the eagles have to come up and make the tackle that's what they do by week nine you would hope they know the fours are back inside because uh coach germain's been saying it to him all all week but
034they're all here but great job there uh my vaguely just forced it back inside there and he knows his linebackers are flowing to the ball as we've said uh every week bring up a second and eight our two linebackers this week are going to be brandon jackson the sophomore and jay missler the senior talked a lot about him this year having a good year and those two guys got an important night ahead of him and his goal right up the middle once again with number nine he's gonna find a seam he's gonna get a first down and still keep moving he's gonna finally be brought down by dominic vaguely good for about a 25-yard run and a first down for the panthers four yard line for the panthers remember when we just said that he's
035just gonna have those two three yard carries on the best one for 20. like to see what happened on that play just going right up the middle this is a big week for those defensive linemen they really got to follow their keys and their assignments same formation once again for the panthers 18's the motion man it's going to be a pass play this time they're going to look to the end zone and it's going to be nearly intercepted by denny goes right through his hands and there is a penalty flag on the play i would say it's in the vicinity of holding yard penalty so to bring up a first down and 20. that's down 21. 21. that's something you got to be uh ready for if you're a safety or corner tonight like the
036same as last week uh it's going to be run run run and then they can hit you with that pass over your head a good job yeah yeah so good job by denny on that last play counter you heard coach remain calling it out it is unreal how he before they even set the ball after that holding penalty he said watch for the counter and they call the counter it's going to be a one-yard gain great job there by the defense yeah we could hear him from over here unreal he called that out and unreal how you can hear his voice way over here actually going to be doubles to the left side still going to be under center two wing backs number 18 in motion again it's going to be a toss great job
037sniffing that out dominic vaguely good tackle good play all the way around and it's going to be a loss on the play he might have like five or six tackles already he might he's in the name he's in there a lot great job though whenever they send that motion man it looks like we're going to be sending blitzes to that side of the field it's worth noting that rick johns is the uh coach for the panthers i saw him a lot at westland i believe right i think so yeah gonna be another sweep to the outside they're gonna try to get to the outside it's gonna be sniffed out once again by the eagles none other than kyle mcconaughey now getting in on the action making that tackle flowing from that safety spot and on
038that play you had four or five white hats flying to the football on pursuit there and great job by mcconaughey making making good contact and wrapping up bringing them down long fourth down so good job there by the eagles giving up two big plays giving up two first downs and then putting their heels in the ground and not going any farther it's gonna be a punt from the 32-yard line mcconaughey back deep run into him and it's going to go out of bounds at the 13 no 18 yard line rather like you said right there jared don't run into them we've had four or five of those penalties had another one of them last week you think you learned by week nine but that's another play cost us a game i think last week and
039let that drive keep going yeah whenever you get up to that punter kicker you just got to be disciplined and know if if you can get the ball get it but if you think you're going to run into him just just hold off tight end right sniffer back right doubles to the right side going to be a handoff to mcconaughey to the right he's got a couple lead blockers out ahead of them good job blocking out there looks like saigon another great job stalk blocking and it's going to be good for about six yards he picks up about six tackle there by and i think it was actually meganson out there with a good stalk blocker i think that's what we're going to see a lot tonight spreading the field using those outside zones and
040getting mcconaughey and vaguely out there to maybe get those linebackers chasing them and then you can open that middle up a little more later in the game meganson came off looked like brandon jackson going in at the tight end spots we're gonna have double tight there's gonna be a lot of tight ends in there it's gonna be another handoff to mcconaughey who's gonna get enough for a first down spin away and gain another two yards and that's good for clone eagles first down i think we had everybody up on the line of scrimmage other than one and white out when you look over yeah brian jackson coming out now meganson back in so coach horner is going to be using a bunch of different formations to ride up right from the get-go to try to
041get a jerseyville on their heels pushing them back a little bit look at coach owner he doesn't even have the headset down he's just going to call the players as he sees it he's got vaguely going to the right side this time he's got vaguely who misses a tackle he's got vaguely down that right sideline he's going to have vaguely into the end zone for a columbia eagles touchdown quarterback vaguely on the right side looks like the head vaguely had about five yard gain and he was able to keep his feet moving and i like to see that running the football hard don't need to throw it if your hands hurting we'll just run it great job there by vaguely just to find an open seam on that right side and i think it was

043and gentlemen into this week nine match-up where the eagles lead the panthers seven to nothing and like jared was just hanging that's a confidence booster there for dom vaguely in that eagle offense yeah coming off last week what was he three for 15. um and he's probably already got four or five tackles here tonight so vaguely looking to put his team on his back tonight and get us in the playoffs good start for the eagles as vaguely going to send it deep once again and gets under this one and it will be fumbled once again at the 20 and it bounces around where the panthers are able to fall on it and in a play like that right there you look at that play there the eagles usually give up those big plays so it's
044nice to see the eagles getting away with the big play there 24 yard line on the offensive side of the football going back to that vaguely him being even a junior quarterback um he's got all these seniors that he's got to be go play quarterback for so he's got a lot of trust that in in don vagley so it's huge that uh he's coming out and go up the middle once again it looked like it was a counter on the play and it's going to be a gain of two about three yard line three yards you listen to some of the guys on the sideline the sidelines fired up tonight too for that that might be the first time we've been able to say that all year and you can hear some of the players
045over there y'all encounter two so you know all week you got what is it the uh scout team offense that all those guys play on the sideline over there against the starting defense so they know everything that jerseyville runs so it's whenever they see something that they see that's coming they're gonna call it out to their teammates [Applause] so jerseyville breaks the huddle and i guess they changed their mind on what they were gonna call looks like the quarterback came out shaken up on the play i'm sorry that was the running back of number nine that came off so it's going to be up the middle once again nope they're going to pull it it's going to be a toss to the outside it's going to be one missed tackled it's going to be a
046second missed tackle now meg and there's that big play we were talking about touchdown jerseyville scoring out columbia seven jersey six look like on that everybody kind of got sucked in on that inside run and they just flipped it out and he had one guy to beat out there with a stalk blocker and broke a tackle and the way he was jerseyville had about six guys i think out here just leading the way too it was a good play there by the panthers it's a high snap it's got brought down and the p-a-t just barely sneaks into the left side so that's going to take our score jerseyville seven columbia seven and just like we were saying it's good to take one of those uh big plays and put it on our offense we give
047it up on defense right away and like i said it looked like a couple linebackers there just got kind of stuck in that stuck in the middle there and don bailey was out here on the on the left side and missed the tackle had one more stock blockers and like you said they had four or five guys that down there still blocking for their guy to get in the end zone he had meganson and i think it was mcconaughey trying to catch up and they were getting blocked by the their other wide receivers so great great play there by uh jerseyville you got to bounce back on offense that's a tough play there too you know that quarterback he can have that ball stuck in the running back stomach all the way to the last
048second and you know it might be the right read on you until the last second when it's not the right raid so good pull there by the quarterback if that is an rpo i guess it's not an rpo yeah yeah it could be an rpo it could be a run pitch option instead of a run fast option this 52 degree night out here it's feeling every bit of it they do send it deep and it's going to go to mcconaughey let's get that special teams touchdown like we've been asking for all year he's going to make two men miss he's going to get to the outside and he's gonna go out of bounds at the 39 and i think he just decided hey i'm gonna dump out right here and uh avoid a big hit
049yeah like the one i took here three two years ago little guy's got to be shifty and know when to get in and out you gotta get as much as you can and go down that's what uh coach jermaine always told me as much as you can just fall down or go out of bounds i like this though the eagles rather than coming out not knowing what's going on on this first play eagles offensive line just comes out they know what they're running ahead one tight end here for the eagles going to be a pistol back in mcconaughey going to be a fake handoff it's going to be a pass he's looking for hicks not going to be open so now vega is going to have to make something happen he gets back to the
050line of scrimmage maybe a yard good coverage there by the panthers he's good on that uh on those rollouts where he can kind of hesitate a little bit and make that defender kind of second guess themselves and he's so good at just having great vision downfield and he's he's gotten better over the season has gone on because early in the season if he saw um anything downfield open he would just swing that thing and try to throw it and sometimes that would be an interception but he's kind of humbled himself a little bit throughout the season and he's being more safe with his uh with his eyes and his vision panthers are challenging the eagles they're on the football and we do and that's a great run by mcconaughey who keeps his feet moving and
051he's gonna get eight that's gonna bring up a third and two and we like to see that out of mcconaughey not only having the speed but also having a little bit of power right there third and about two most likely looking for another rpo action here maybe uh mistler coming out of this backfield doing a little arrow route and vagley's going to hit him for a first down oh we got him to jump off never mind there was five panthers on the line of scrimmage there i think four of them jumped so that's going to be a good for another columbia eagles first down so now what's your prediction as you got jackson coming off the field and meganson coming back on now you just run the ball i think uh go back to um
052what you were doing on first down on that first drive you were just running the ball with uh mcconaughey and vaguely see where that can get you 440 remaining in the first quarter it is going to be another run play with mcconaughey he's going to go up the middle this time and he's going to be good for close to another first down as it takes about four or five panthers to get him down it's good for a nine-yard game these past two or three weeks it looks like he's been getting more upfield and not trying to bounce it out as much which is a great thing to see early in the year mcconaughey every time he would get any space outside you know he was going to bounce it out and try to take it
053to the house but sometimes that could end up in negative yardage um but great job mcconaughey of using it putting his foot in the ground and getting up field gonna be another run play to the left side and it's gonna be good for columbia eagles first down i mean watch that play right there mistler actually came out wide early i thought he moved a little early i wasn't going to mention it but he actually came out wide so you that's a little bit of action that those linebackers are seeing and mechanically just goes right up the middle so that might also set something up for the future so it's going to be another first down and 10 for the eagles from the 35-yard line 3 30 in the first quarter of the 7-7 game trips
054to the right side he's going to throw it out to saigon and he's got the completion and it's gonna be good for seven and if you heard on that play as soon as he caught the ball you could hear coach horner yelling right now and as we've talked about vaguely too as a quarterback you got one second to get that ball out and he did a great job on that one especially on those arrow routes i mean it's only a one to two second little route for your wide receiver to get out of he's gonna snap his head all the way around and vaguely he's got to get that ball and sling it over to that sideline and that's what we did right there to saigon jackson goes off meginson comes on i'd like to

066running back in the in the backfield is getting the ball but it's really that uh counter coming back uh your way panthers get up to the line of scrimmage once again five eagles up close to the line of scrimmage it's gonna be number nine trying to get lost behind the big number 78 there it's gonna be a gain of three bring up a second and seven pick up three second down seven eagles having seven guys in the line of scrimmage and even your linebackers they're playing up pretty close to the box too so you can almost say that we've got nine guys in the box gonna be an rpo and look like the quarterback was trying to pull it kingstein kenny those are two big guys you're trying to run through and all they did

096tie game but um our defense kind of on their heels a little bit jerseyville running a lot of different a lot of different stuff at us which uh kind of has our defense a little uh a little messed up but we knew that they were gonna come out and run the football a whole bunch like you had said earlier three guys over 50 attempts one of those guys over 100 attempts rushing and i think they had about after doing the math about 14 or 1500 yards rushing but like you said the throw in the football quarterback only had 46 attempts coming into the night completing 41 he was 19 for 46 with two touchdowns and two interceptions for 250 yards and tonight he's kind of lulled our defense to sleep and after that he's kind
