001[Music] do all right we'll go ahead and get started all right last wake up day for uh your high school career so we'll get the senior celebration going and you can move on to your next events welcome i'm brian reece principal of columbia high school and i welcome you to our fourth annual senior celebration this morning we will honor and celebrate students for their exemplary academic achievements while attending the high school here as well as announcing scholarship winners and recognizing students who were chosen as top student for each department some of our scholarship recipients have already been honored at ceremonies held previously in those situations i'll just ask you to stand and for those that have not been recognized yet you'll come up receive your certificate or medal and then when the whole group's done
002you'll go out to the cafeteria and get a picture taken and come back in and take your seat okay let's begin with our impact student of the year this year's impact student of the year is presented to the student who has accumulated the most community service hours making a positive impact on our school and community this year's student has accumulated 340 hours of volunteer service the recipient the recipient is melane laxton [Applause] congratulations would you go out and get a picture with her she goes out yep and i should have mentioned the beginning welcome parents and family joining us from home club members of the year oh academic team members of the year ms stevens throughout the course of the year we had some groups compete in academic challenges against other schools they're the academic

015be attending southeast missouri state university mr collier was a teacher and coach in columbia and a teacher coach and administrator in dupo he was a proud cmo graduate having served as the editor editor of the university newspaper and a member of the baseball team congratulations to this year's recipient paige durban the robert holden memorial scholarship each year a two thousand dollar scholarships two thousand dollar scholarships are given to chs seniors in honor of robert holden and other chs alumni who have served our country robert holden was born and raised in columbia graduated here from here in 1965 with 33 other students due to financial reasons after graduating he was not able to complete college and the result worked odd jobs until enlisting in the military after basic training he was sent to vietnam where he

021we are finished we have a couple pictures to do we have a couple students that they'll need to finish checkout and then you guys are free to move down to the field we have our large award for the wrap up the edgar o zimmer family foundation scholarship mr zimmer supported hundreds of monroe county youth with college scholarships for decades before his death in november of 2006 at the age of 102. he and his wife recognize the potential of the youth of the community and the importance of education to share a strong future for their beloved monroe county [Music] first his private foundation made scholarship and tuition waiver grants and then in 2002 he and he established the zimmer family scholarship program at the greater st louis community foundation perpetually providing scholarships to help students receive
