001[Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] oh [Music] so [Music] another cahokia conference matchup here at the columbia multi-purpose field it's rivalry week it's a big week everybody circles a game on their schedule whether it's waterloo whether it's freeberg whether it's central and that goes for everybody everybody wants to circle that columbia match up freeberg's got it circled we've got freeburg circle this year alex schlemmer and jared germain with you once again jared we got the three and oh freeburg midgets in town facing off the two-in-one columbia eagles yeah looking for a good matchup here today alex freiburg coming in with a lot of a lot of firepower from last week coming off a big win of all marquette um but they come in with three and oh with a big big o line that's

002going to run the ball a lot so our defense is going to have to be ready for this one i agree with you on that one defense has always got to be ready we talked to coach germain tonight so we'll get to that a little bit later on but that field that you get in the locker room team just went back up to the locker room with about 20 minutes to go before game time here that feel in the locker room tonight something that you don't feel on every other night yeah definitely when you have freeberg on your schedule and especially in a year like this it's going to be a little different playing freeberg it's you only have six what six weeks in a year so it's going to be a lot different you're

003playing them earlier than you usually do in the season so it's definitely going to be a lot different for a lot of these players tonight i agree with you there and like you said just a different feel you got to come in tonight you got to be ready to go from the snap last week we had a little bit of a slow start but you got to be ready to go from the snap like i said they're going to go up they're going to get their last little bit ready to go come back down whenever we played back in the day i always remember you know my sophomore year we played at freeburg big alex fricke was the quarterback um you don't want to talk about injuries but it always seemed like something happened yeah

004so whenever we had that the free curse i think so we had that we had the freebird curse we play at freeburg we get the victory we come back here my junior year we got the lead we're going good everything's what we want we got a third long just like we want 13 13 to 7 and we bite on a hitch and go and they score a touchdown we lose my senior year coach warner says i don't care if we got to win this game three to two we won seven to six what are some of your memories of these games um i remember our one of our our first year actually doing the broadcast one of my favorite games i've ever watched probably was the playoff game that we did um in 2018 whenever

005columbia beat freiburg here at columbia um sam horner i know had a big game that game he had a big interception that i remember right here on our sideline and um so that's just that's a big moment that i remember that was one was it brandon mang or something like that back here in the back of the end zone had a chance to win it i believe and luckily uh he had that popcorn at halftime and went right on through his hands so look back at last week columbia wins over salem 37-18 and there's a lot to talk about in that game 430 yards we were just talking looking at last week's stats the big thing though republic times player of the week on sophomore dominic vaguely getting his first start and we got a

006lot of big big things to look forward to here in the future with him yeah definitely uh sophomore stepped up last week he was 14 for 19 for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the air and then he also rushed i think 13 to 14 times for a 120 yards three touchdowns and he only he also had a interception on the defensive side which we don't really talk about that much of him playing on the defensive side of the ball so it's nice to see your quarterback that can help your defensive side too and that's a big thing you know not too many times you see a quarterback playing safety anymore and that's something that we got and he's great at running the alleys and that's just the huge thing but like we were saying

007you know 430 yards offensively had a little bit of a slow start no problem to that you know down six nothing in coach germain he really didn't even give up that touchdown we we fumbled the ball at the five yard line maybe it was those sophomore jitters there but fumble the bar and the ball in the five yard line they scored touchdown we're down 6-0 going to halftime though and we're up 12-6 and then after that columbia didn't let off the breaks and uh we just got to the got to the end zone every time we wanted to it seemed like yeah had a great game yeah definitely in that second half too uh when we started running with that heavy offense you can see that coach horner got a little more comfortable getting the

008ball in the hands of london little and putting him in the backfield a little more which is very scary to teams i would say because whenever you have a guy like london little who can you can put him in the backfield and move him as a running back and wide receiver it's that's a lot scarier for defenses to see him in a lot of different positions we got this week with a couple players talking about last week and here's what they had to say about last week's games and now going into this week against freebird i've been trying to kick forever and kendall's never let me do it but uh he finally gave me the opportunity to last weekend i executed so hopefully he'll let me do it again maybe this week or senior night

009we'll see um you know we do have a big game coming up this week against freeburg it'll be a tough match up uh especially up front um we just got to get things done execute um and then east saltonwood river i'm feeling confident about that game and as well as all marquette so as long as we can get past this keep everybody healthy i think we should be fine it's got to be a game um just one up front because we got to be able to run between the guards and tackles we have to be able to do that we can't just rely on our speedsters to get outside every time i should just keep everybody healthy you know went out these next games we just got to execute that's about it [Music] yeah we're

010really able to synergize this year especially with the juniors and seniors so we're all able to click click really well and just perform as a real team it's all about figuring out what the other team's going to do and how we can move around it so watching film is definitely a great thing to do as well as just talk to your coaches about what's going on and just figure it out it's going to be a really tough game it's all going to be super aggressive we're all going to have to try really hard and we're also going to have to go all four quarters and we just it's going to be a bunch of smash mouth football yeah they're a real big fan of keeping the uh running back and making him run some rounds

011as well as the big o sniffer guy so he's going to go out run some rounds so all we have to do is just figure out what he's going to do and how to stop it it'd be a little easier so we'll go back real quick uh dominic vaguely republic times player of the week how do you come back into the game like this you know you got you go from a great week that you had last week you don't want to dwell on that too much anymore hey congratulations you got it now you got a big game this week in freeburg i think like a sophomore like don vagel you just got to put the helmet on strap it up again and show the fans that you can do it again i mean um

012he's he's shown this year that he he can play at the varsity level and he has the he definitely has the talent to keep keep playing at this this pace because i think don vageley is a great kid great player and doing great things for columbia football so now we talk about what london mentioned and what garrett poulter had mentioned london just says you know you got to get after it and uh i'm sorry schrader oliver yeah but you know you got to keep going got to keep everybody healthy london says that he can do whatever you want last week we got him 14 touches we talked about that that's huge to get a playmaker like that the ball that many times in as many ways as we can get london the football yeah most

013definitely and he also explained there that we have to be able to run the ball inside the two guards and the tackles because well as you've seen when whenever we get these guys out in space on a little mechanically malting they can do a lot of work so if we can run in inside a little bit i think we could be a little more effective to keep their defense on their toes a little bit and that could definitely be a problem i agree with you you know central we didn't really run the ball too well in between the tackles and that kind of showed i know we had a bad field condition that night but we never really got the line of scrimmage established and that's one thing if you ever talk to coach horner

014he's going to say you got to control the line of scrimmage and that's something we didn't do that week obviously we don't have to worry about field conditions this night tonight but you know everything's won in the trenches they say that whether it's the offensive side of the ball or the defensive side of the ball and you come against the freeberg offense this year they're rolling you're putting up 54 points in week one 52 points in week two and 35 points last week against uh i guess it was madison wood river and marquette respectively so this freeberg offense knows what they're doing and freeburg defense they gave up 12 points i think in week two none in week one and i think like 14 or something not too many i don't believe last week against

015marquette so this offense that we're facing with freeburg tonight they know what's going on they know how to move the football and columbia's just gonna have to step up and match the intensity if not set the intensity yeah coach tremaine is definitely gonna have to have his guys ready for tonight and as oliver schrader said earlier they're going to be in a lot of different formations the running back and sniffers backs are going to be running a lot of routes so linebackers and cornerbacks got to be ready for guys coming out of the backfield all the time and i just know that freeberg is just a run first team um just looking at their stats throughout the out the year their quarterback is 22 for 30 with five touchdowns which 30 attempts we've probably thrown

016that in one game before yeah so he's only thrown 30 attempts all year so but that's just that makes you remind uh the corners and safeties to just you got to stay awake and um if they haven't thrown the ball that much and he's only got one interception um and then the running back has 57 attempts for 457 yards and five touchdowns so they can definitely both run the ball so you gotta watch out for that and the receivers too i was looking we can look about it and talk about a little bit later they move the ball around so it's not like hey we're gonna key on you know for our instance they're gonna key on london a little we shut london down that's a good thing coach germain he's got two or three

017different guys he's got a shutdown he's got to worry about a running back running he's got to worry about a quarterback running so got to give this freebird offense a bunch of credit because credit's due freeberg currently sits in second place of the cahokia conference breeze central is in first place at 3-0 i believe all three of their games have been conference games freeberg has not played a conference game yet so they i guess we could say they're sitting in second place columbia two and one all three conference games so far the one loss coming to uh breeze central salem sitting at one and two in westland at oh and three and now you keep looking at the kaoki conference standings columbia needs a little help if we want to have a conference championship the

018way that i've got it figured out this isn't official columbia needs central to lose two freeberg and at least one more game to get at least a share freeberg wins out congratulations your conference champs central wins out congratulations your conference champs but columbia's in control of their own destiny really uh you got to win tonight got to get one game at a time um so that's you just got to go out and win one game at a time at this point yeah honestly uh i mean guys are going to go out there last game or last what is it the last uh kokia conference game of the year because our last two games are east altman river and alton marquette so i mean it's your last conference game of the year second last home game

019of the year so there should be a lot of fans showing up for this game because it's always a big rivalry game so should be a fun one to watch i keep looking over your shoulder here i can look down at the entrance and people are starting to come in uh in columbia fashion they're up on top of the hill already they had blankets out today and already um they're gonna use that blanket maybe as a poncho in the in the future hopefully not we're going to say that yeah we're going to hope or not but you look at colombia all time against freeburg freeburg dominated about the majority of it columbia is currently on a 10-game winning streak and is now the longest consecutive seasons played series at 46 games just behind dupo i

020believe for most all time started back in 1975 is when this started so columbia longest consecutive series 46 seasons like i said dupo is up there at 48. um columbia owns the record now 25 and 21 and like we said on a 10-game winning streak so we were down 21 uh what fifteen to twenty-one yeah last year we won 42 to nothing and like we said in a rivalry game you never know what's gonna happen you can win that game 42 to nothing or we can win a game like i had said earlier win it seven to six you never know what's going to happen you got to go out set the tone match the intensity and coach horner all time 16 and four seven and three at home and i don't know when his

021four losses were i don't know if we can try to think through that real quick it doesn't matter but you know it's just interesting my varsity career i never lost a freebird i know that i know my junior year was a loss and i think that was the only one so had to be back before then we are just under seven minutes now till kickoff what do you got for your pre predictions tonight um i'm gonna go uh 34-20 i think uh columbia is going to come out i think vaguely he's going to be able to have a good game throw it around a little bit get the ball in london's hands um i think freebird is going to run the ball pretty well but i think uh coach chermaine's defense is going to be

022ready for uh for the run game i'm going to go 28-21 i think we might give up a couple points here but i think we're still going to score we still got some good athletes out on the field and you mentioned coach jermaine and his work cut out for him we went down with coach germain before warm-ups tonight and we had an interview with him and here's what he had to say about tonight's game coach jermaine the defensive coordinator for the eagles tonight coach germain you've always had that bendo break mentality for all the years i can remember what are your successors you think the only given up about two touchdowns a game this year and doing that all of your career we try to put our the players in the best possible position to

023make plays you know the offense is always revolving uh defenses that we've had to catch up with with the offenses over the years so putting the kids in the right spots giving the best the best chance the ability to make plays throughout the course of the game is all we can ask of our kids and we try that's what we try to do to them so you mentioned the kids putting them in their best spot but you down on the field you don't get the good angle as you would say somebody up top you got coach stump up there you've been around the game as long as he's probably been alive so he's got to put you in the right spot in the right mindset as well yeah coach stump you obviously he played for

024us years ago and uh you know coach stump has come a long way as a football coach on the defensive side of the ball that you know that's his job at the underclass level and he utilizes or he uses the same you know schemes that we do throughout the course of the week on our opponents coach stump does a great job of game planning watching film he always has his guys ready to go and it's all it's very nice to have an extra set of eyes you know he gives me formations and uh you know people that are coming in out of the game for the opponent and you know puts our players in the right spot to give give ourselves the advantage so tonight we come against a big freeberg team here uh they've

025put up 47 points a game 54 52 50 or 35 respectively so you got your work cut out for you tonight and that ben don't break mentality what's the key to slowing this freeberg offense down well like i like i said last week against salem uh you know it's going to come down to our down seven people you know their offensive line is is you know seasoned they've got a lot of kids coming back from last year's team that's going to boil down to our kids up front making plays their quarterback and their and their running back are probably the two best combo that we've seen all year long so it's going to come down to our defensive ends we have to play assignment football everybody's got their gap they're responsible for um and our

026secondary doesn't need to be making plays 10 12 yards down the field realize it all boils down to our inside guys taking care of their assignments perfect good deal coach appreciate it good luck tonight thank you very much alex i don't know about you jared hell's bells comes on you see that the boys coming down the cow bell is going off chills you get a little chills there so what coach germaine was saying you know the guy's had a ben don't break mentality forever that's all i can ever remember he threw a bunch of shutouts last year he's throwing shutouts again this year tonight we talked to him he and he mentioned in the interview got to play your front seven again we talked about it last week front seven have got to play good

027and there's no exception to that this week with the running game that the best they could ever have seen this year for sure yeah definitely coach germain is going to have these guys ready on first down like he said he's gonna have to try to stop him not let him get yardage on first down to try to make him throw the ball um if you can like he said in the third coach's key there he said needs to get them into passing situations if he can hold him to some yardage and um make him pass the ball around because we haven't seen it that much this season then i think i think we'll be all right well that does it for the pregame show ladies and gentlemen we're about three and a half minutes away

030is leading the conference and kicks yards and he sends it deep and it will be recovered on the three yard line and it will be a reverse to the right side over to freeburg sideline where columbia is not going to be fooled and they're going to sling him down and it might have been a fumble on the play jared and it is call me football columbia football columbia football he went to make the tackle i can't see who came out with it meant to make the tackle and ripped it out well what a start for the eagles can't ask for a better start hey we talked about you got to match the intensity you got to set the tone i don't want to match it i want to set it setting the tone is nice

032mcconaughey to get the defense moving in one motion sending those guys in motion and then having dominic vaguely pull the ball or give the ball off but he did a great job there of reading it and pulling the ball and getting a couple yards it's going to be the same formation trips to the right side doubles to the left empty backfield going to be a bubble it's going to be caught by number two 2 train he's got the right side and he's going to be just short great stalk block there by london little really made that play get somewhere looks like a personal foul on freebird gonna be uh we were already about what one or two one or two yard lines so it's half the distance to the goal we're probably gonna have the

033ball in the half yard line i would imagine result of the play is a first down already so it'll be first and goal for the eagles what a great start for the eagles offense and on the two so be first and goal from the two mcconicki will join vaguely in the backfield as running back eagles are going to set up in a doubles formation freeberg's got four down linemen two linebackers gonna take the snap gonna hand it off fake it to mcconaughey not gonna get anything is number 72 is in the backfield right away for about a loss of a yard yard and a half for the eagles good read there again but i think vaguely just has a nose for the football when he's inside the 10 or 5 yard line i think whenever

036eagles and i could hear coach kendall down there already going heavy so bringing the heavy set in here try to punch a early early running automatic first first quarter touchdown for the eagles if we can punch one in here so first down in ten or first down and one for the eagles now the officials are coming together and talk looks like number 62 for the eagles coming off the field as coaches were still screaming heavy 63 on the play rather for the eagles coming off i believe that's matheny it is grant matheny coming off he's a big kid he's not in heavy that's kind of surprising so the officials getting together third down it's gonna stay at third down i don't get how that stays at third down how come that's not a half a

037distance but coach horner seems to agree with the call so dominic vaguely under center mcconaughey in the backfield two fullbacks they're gonna turn around hand the ball off and he's gonna go in untouched for columbia eagles touchdown two minutes and 15 seconds into this game can't ask for a better start you know coach horner is going to be real happy with that start and coach kendall even with that kickoff return uh fumble recovery there so a great start for the eagles uh start this rivalry game with a touchdown score in the first two minutes set the tone early we like doing that get after it keep the pedal to the metal as a lot of people would say mcconaughey on for the second touchdown of the season four games into it saigon for the hold

039not gonna if you're not gonna hit you're gonna be hit is that how they say it alex yeah be the hitter not to hit e yeah and then also the other one is just keep them keep the pedal down last week we had a a good second half of that game against salem um so if we can keep this train rolling like we are already tonight in the first two minutes and 15 seconds into this game um i think we'll be all right let's do the same thing over again another fumble recovery how about an onside kick like last week yeah would be on the kick he's going to kick it in the same spot and this time hero he's like i'm not reaching this one freeberg's letting it go a little extra curricular going

040on about the 35-yard line can't see a number of who that's with but that's irrelevant as friberg's offense will now come out onto the field after the touchback wibby on the year is absolutely booting the football love to see it and from a kicker a game like this field possession is a huge huge key so whibi on the year averaging 53 yards a kick in the conference the next closest person is at 47. so i thought he had a little bit bigger yeah he had six yards i thought he's a little bit bigger lead than that so pretty so columbia comes out four down linemen three linebackers sniffer back to the left of the quarterback with the running back to the left of the quarterback they try the hard count route off the bat doesn't

041go gonna take the snap gonna look like it was an option on the plane it's going to be fumbled by the freebird quarterback and it looks like it could be freeburg ball it looked like it bounced right up at him and it did number 55 i guess i was alignment down the field looked like it bounced right back up into his chest i wonder what uh freeberg had on for me on the way here some popcorn or yeah man two fumbles and not even three minutes not even 10 seconds of having the football so gain a four on the play you're going to send the sniffer back in motion doubles to the left side going to be a false start stoppage of play i didn't even see a flag be thrown i think the official

042just blew the whistle and said no that's good enough we don't need a flag so the false start is a loss of five on the play brings up a second down and 11 for the offense that is averaging 47 points a game doubles to the left side gonna move the running back to the right side now they're going to move the sniffer back to the right going to be a straight hand off to the running back who's going to put his head down he's going to gain about two and be brought down by a couple eagles on the play to bring up that passing down that coach germaine wanted to do yeah that's what like he said earlier uh if we can hold them in on first down not getting that many yards it forces

043them to open the field a little more maybe toss the ball around so uh that's nice to see uh third down here with 10 yards to go see if they can throw a little pass going to be a run to the right side a little bit of a roll out and it's not going to be anything for the freeburg offense right now [Applause] number 15 colin mclaren it looks like flying up to make the big tackle mclaren great job playing outside linebacker there just forcing him outside running right with him and kind of slammed him on the ground if you ask me alex i mean he looked like he got there in a flash and colin plays with a little bit of swag he's got the intensity i like it so it's going to be

044officially a loss of four on the play to go back to a fourth down and 12. columbia running a man onto the field late it's gonna be a low snap but it is handled gonna be a short punt way out and get way out of bounds a freebird coach threw his play sheet up in the air columbia will take over near the 40-yard line so field possession once again for the eagles offense starting at the 40-yard line great great field position for coach owner's offense and that's the best thing you can ask for uh right there great field position start uh start a good drive with a 7-0 lead columbia offense averaging 32 points a game the only low scoring game that we had was at say central on the mud pit of a field

045where we were only allowed to score 12 points that night motion man is london little he's gonna have to make a couple men miss he makes one man miss trying to fight up to the light of scrimmage he's gonna lose two on the play freiberg did a good job of just stringing that play out yeah great great pursuit there by number 55 and number one here for freeberg um just flying down the line and a lot of little's gonna have a lot of um a lot of people looking out for him this year the rest of the year since they know um how much damage he can do so great job there by freeberg to get in great pursuit of london little empty backfield doubles to the right side trips to the left mcconaughey and

046whib to the right side and that's where dom's gonna look but he can't get the ball out so now he's just gonna have to tuck it and run and that's what he does he's got a lot of open field good stock blocking by whitby that's a gain of 25 yards and good for another columbia eagles first down he likes to uh he likes to fake a throw after he gets past the line of scrimmage all the time and he still faked the linebacker out i know we've seen him throw the ball past the line of scrimmage probably twice already this year but uh he's a sophomore he's still learning so um but great job there by vaguely to use his feet and get 30 30 yards down field and get a first down inside the

047red zone for the eagles columbia enters the red zone great job by wibby right there uh running his route getting down the field turning around becoming stalk blocker and gave another five yards on the play mcconaughey was trying to get out there to stalk block just couldn't get out there for him trips to the left side we're going to hand the ball off up the middle to mcconaughey a missed block by the eagles there and there was nobody other than that guy who made the tackle if he makes that man miss he might have himself a touchdown and going back to what london said in the interview he said we need to be able to run inside the tackles and the guards and from looking looking early we we haven't really been able to do

048it um we ran outside a couple times so we'll see if we can start getting the ball on the inside a little bit trips to the left side rolling out to the left he had a guy at the sticks now he's going to turn around reverse the feel he's going to make one man miss he's going to keep his head down get down to this five or six yard line look like he had london right at the sticks but hey i'll take that just as much it's like houdini out there it's not good so we talk about running inside the sticks kyle mcconaughey coming into tonight 35 attempts for 156 yards four and a half yards of carry you want a little bit more out of that of your starting running back whenever something like

049that's going on yeah definitely well any and he's not the biggest guy out there so i know coach horner likes getting them out in space and letting them use his feet a little bit so we'll see if coach horner can get him inside the tackles tonight and see if he can get some more yardage heavy for the eagles third down and three he's gonna try to get in between those linemen he's gonna gain about two bring up a fourth down and short run the same play again oh we got about two yards to go one and a half yards is that a long one or a short two i'd say a short two sure two okay yeah yeah because you know if you only gain one you're not getting the first time you need to

052picks a couple of pats so um that was a pretty memorable game for me but i was going to ask you whenever you said columbia multi-purpose field we go back to last week whenever you were saying jim finksfield um do you think that columbia will ever name their field like a scott horner dome or something like that i was thinking i don't know if we'll get a scott horner dome um the columbia community is great but i don't know if we can afford a dome here for the high school but uh you know i don't know we've had a lot of greats come through um jerry jermaine comes to mind coach horner comes to mind um so there's your two coaches but you got a lot of donors and everybody that could also be mentioned

055in this first quarter so we'll definitely hear his name called a lot more in this game third down and five just gonna be a quarterback run to the right side and who is that is that mclaren again who's number 24. i need some better eyes i think that's whibby whibby came out of there last wibby was up there in a hurry loss of two on the play just running a little quarterback power to the right i mean we haven't seen him throw the ball that much number 24 on the night is oliver schroeder typically number 22 in the program the black jersey number 24. coach germain told us about that before the game i forgot oh it goes for the blue block and it doesn't work this punt's a little bit better for freeberg though

056as it will get a good freeberg roll and it will be in columbia territory coach germain just yelled up to me before the game hey schlem schrader's number 24 tonight not number 22. i went to the field kendall tells me hey schrader's number 24 tonight not number 22. i look over at you for looking for 24 and you're like oh there's nothing 24 in my book i'll go ahead and take note of that now so the eagle offense will have 54 yards ahead of them with three minutes to go leading this game 10 to nothing gonna be a tight formation here double running backs dom slips on the play wanted the bootleg and you look over here they had two train would have been wide open in that secondary level there i don't know if

057that was a blitz there looked like number six here the linebacker for freebird kind of blitzed through the middle and 55 the down lineman on the left side um that would the right tackle would have to be taken care of um he just slipped around the left side and right whenever dom bootlegged out to the other side that guy was just waiting for him there so uh no gain loss of about six yards there downen was that linebacker that came in six tackles on the year doubles with a single running back dom's gonna have to move around again he's gonna pump fake try to pump fake again and gets absolutely stuck at the line of scrimmage he got absolutely crushed looks like number 53 on the planet he's probably the biggest hit he's had all

058year round that's a pretty big hit on don vagley there so that brings up a third down and 16. and that's that's the negative with having a rushing quarterback to where you don't want him to do that stuff to where that could cause injury um definitely whenever you have linebackers flying down the line that are just going to put their head down and lay the boom because they think you're a running back you're just a runner in that roll out to the right side mcconaughey can't get out there so now dom's gonna have to scramble he is able to throw it away great job by not taking the loss you can't fault dom on that play you can't fault mcconaughey on that play they just brought the house and lineman really couldn't get contained on

064we tried a couple bootlegs there and vaguely tried a bootleg out of that one that you saw and there was already two or three guys right in his face so we'll see if we can throw the ball down feel a little more sending london in motion we're gonna run the quarterback draw up the middle gonna be brought down by two midgets on the field gain of two vaguely on the carry picks when you have london you can use them as a decoy just as many times as you can get them the football and that's what columbia seemed to do the last couple nights and yeah definitely we haven't really heard or seen london little's name a lot so far and in that first quarter so uh london or freiburg doing a great job of kind

066i remember i remember when coach horner first came out with that play uh he came out with in my junior year i don't know if you guys ever ran a play like that but what's it called bulldog nope so it's like a it's just a throwback all the way to the other side but after this play i'll explain it double tight two running backs looking to the end zone he's got a man over to the right side i think that's mcconaughey he makes a great catch in for another eagles touchdown second touchdown of the night for mcconaughey made a great adjustment on the ball it was kind of thrown to that perfect perfect ball by vaguely to throw right to the pylon but uh mcconaughey was a little bit more on the inside but great

067great adjustment to go behind his shoulder a little bit and make a great catch very athletic play there for kyle mcconaughey he's one of those kids watching him from sophomore or freshman year rather this year as a junior he's somebody makes a game look easy he's very fluent in what he's doing fluid in what he's doing it's like a natural ability on for the p-80 good snap good hold kick is up and it is good oh just kept it from going into the woods into the wilderness into the wilderness as we say here in columbia we got the wilderness and the what do we call the right side the highway i don't even remember that i just remember it was always the wilderness yeah away from the wilderness yeah kicking out kicking away from the

086it'll come in the fourth quarter yeah high snap they get it down and it is good [Applause] so that takes the score 24-7 pretty good drive there by the freeberg offense set up by that good kickoff return they had that went to about the 25-yard line yeah so we talked about that and i had mentioned with coach germain earlier and just talking to him throughout the week doesn't give up a score against red bud so then you go to week two at central give up give up 18 points the team does but one of them was a pick six so we gave up 12 points give up 12 there and then last week we gave up 18 one of which started at the 5 yard line and i think another one started inside the 15

087or yeah so really you know he's only given up three defensive scores this year and you can't be mad about that definitely not in in this game we've seen in that first quarter we were definitely keeping the keeping the run to a to a no-no as i should say um but our d-linemen and linebackers are doing a great job of getting down the line and filling the gaps and front sevens just filling every gap there is filling all the lanes and making plays making tackles and that's all coach germain can ask for with a run first defense because i know uh a lot of these corners and safeties can get a little boring or not boring can get bored whenever it's just a run run run run run but you got to stay awake all

088the time like like we just saw there with a nice pass there from their quarterback for a touchdown mcconaughey and little are going to stand next to each other and it will be kicked and it will be recovered by the dangerous london little from the 20. he's going to try to get to the sideline he's going to make a spin move and he's going to get brought out of bounds at the 35 where the offense will take over mclaren was a quarterback on the last drive with the big touchdown reception by andrew malding and it looks like mclaren is going to stay on the sideline and bring dominic vagley back out at quarterback he's gonna have whibby out there with them mcconaughey maulding little and a sniffer back can't see a number out of that

089though this can put defenses in a bind bringing two quarterbacks in every other drive three down linemen three linebackers for the freebird defense mcconaughey takes the handoff makes one man miss makes another man miss tries cutting back up field and he's gonna be brought down by a bunch of defenders picks up three yards on the play tackled by caseburg and like i said having two quarterbacks that could do two different things having a guy with an arm like mclaren like we saw on that last drive he was camera came out and probably threw four or five passes and one of them was a touchdown and then when you have a guy like vaguely who can read linebackers and pull the ball whenever he wants and put his head down and run and use his feet

090that's definitely a plus for coach horner's offense and not very fun to play against as a defense same formation for the eagles are going to hand the ball off right up the middle to mcconaughey who gets stuck by number 20. liked to see kyle lower his right a little running hard he was running hard right through that hole though but i don't think he was ready for that safety to step up and lay the boom on him but sandwich gain of four or five on the play brings up a third down and one columbia up to the line of scrimmage i'm gonna say a hard count here as quick as we just moved this is a typical coach horner get up to the ball yep he gets up to the ball real quick runs the

106to you no not really uh coach tremaine did a good job of getting his guys ready um he knew that this was going to be a run first game for his defense and his defense obviously has came out ready to play and uh we were ready to go off that kickoff because we uh we recovered a fumble in the first 10 seconds of the game and punched in a touchdown in that first two minutes of the game there so uh columbia was already off to a really good start in the beginning and i'm looking to uh looking forward to a great second half here for the eagles so just like you got to start the game in quick pace got to start second half at a quick base as well so you like to see

113kendall started at chs in 2014 this is a seventh year coaching he's a varsity assistant and special teams coordinator he's the underclass head football coach he teaches eighth grade math hobbies include golf and getting together with his friends that is coach kendall coach kendall is still a state record holder at the ihsa for kicks i believe it was a punt yeah i think it was too and he'll tell you that a million times yeah he says he still has the cleats [Applause] there you go there's the rest of his stuff prep before the game he likes to look at the formations and tendencies to see if there are any patterns where a team may be tipping their hand superstitions sit in the same seat for team dinner keep things light in the coach's office left

114shoe goes on before the right shoe now when he says he keeps things light in the coach's office rumor has it he will print out pictures of himself of coach horner of coach jermaine and he puts him everywhere so heard a bunch of stories about that his favorite win as a coach any win against waterloo is a favorite win of mine also any conference win and finally his favorite thing about coaching passing on the past passing on his passion for football to the next generation of players in thursday's special teams practice those are the best man coach kendall is passionate about just about everything he does he does it all out and on the special team side of the field this year he's done a pretty good job with every aspect kickoffs kick returns pats
