Will you all please remain standing for a moment

of reflection and respect for our troops serving throughout the world, our troops who have served and our troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our United States of America. Thank you. Moving on to item number five, student recognition. I'll turn it over to Mr. Ross. Thank you, Dr. Gendrano. Good evening, students, parents, staff members. It's wonderful to have you all here. Each month we celebrate students of the month from each of our grade levels and the special areas at the elementary school. And the way that this will work is we'll bring up one of the administrators and they will call up all of the winners from their particular school. We're going to bring the step and repeat up in front and then at the end of the school, once all of

the kids have been recognized, you'll be able to get up from your seat and find a good spot to take a good picture. At the end of the entire student recognition, we'll also pause for about 5 to 10 minutes or so so that everyone can take pictures. This is double-sided, so you can get all the good pictures that you want with your friends and the amazing staff members that are here supporting. So, without further ado, why don't we start with Denali High School and Mr. Lynch? Good evening, everyone. We're very excited for our students of the month for the month of April. When I call the student's name, if they would please come up for acknowledgement. And our first student of the month doesn't look like he's here, but our ninth grade student of the

month this month is Lincoln Ringer. Lincoln just started at the high school this year. Had a very good elementary and middle school career, but we've seen a lot of growth and evolving from Lincoln as he has come up to the high school and in talking with his teachers, they've really seen that growth in him. So we're very happy to see. He's always He's one of those where he had two siblings come before him. So he had big shoes to fill, but he's done a terrific job so far at the high school. So our ninth grade student of the month is Lincoln Ringer. Our Our 10th grade student of the month, ASHLEY BOUDREAU. YES, ASHLEY LOOKS THRILLED TO BE HERE. She loves the attention as we can tell. She's a fantastic student. In the all the

honors classes, she works incredibly hard. Every year with 10th graders with 10th grade team that I'm a part of, we bring all of the students in to talk to them, to kind of get to know them outside of the classroom. And this year when we brought Ashley in, Ashley usually is a little bit more reserved, but all of a sudden in that setting with just a few of the teachers, she had so much to say. It was amazing to see and very enlightening to hear all of the things that Ashley likes to do. So make it even better, we've decided to bring her back several times because she's just a to me a really interesting person to talk to. I know she doesn't think it, but I tell her, you are one of the most

interesting people I met because she has such great ideas and gives us her opinion, her honest opinion about what she thinks about things. So thank you Ashley and our 10th grade student of the month, ASHLEY BOUDREAU. OUR 11TH GRADE STUDENT OF THE MONTH, GABBY SOLANO GOMEZ. THESE ARE THE SMILES WE LIKE TO SEE. There is Gabby. Always smiling in school, always happy. She's part of our bands, our early morning band, so she's got to get to school early every day. She's also part of the jazz band. She plays on the tennis team, and I think one of the reasons she plays tennis is because she has a group of friends, and they basically do everything together. They do band together, they do tennis together, they study together, so it's really amazing to see, and it's

great to see all of them get along so well. And they are all incredibly nice individuals. So, our 11th grade student of the month, Gabby Solano Gomez. And our 12th grade student of the month, one of the most special people we have, COLETTE WALL. THERE'S SO MUCH I CAN SAY ABOUT COLETTE. SHE CAME When she came over to the high school, uh she was pretty reserved, pretty quiet. Uh she went about her business, and what's been great to see the last few years is she's really come out of her shell. Going out of her way to make friends with individuals. Uh it's great to see Ms. Ayers here, one of her teachers. And, you know, we She even pointed out to me the other day, uh she went out of her way, sat at another

table with another group of students the other day. Uh just kind of branching out, making friends with other people. And uh she's such a wonderful individual. We're going to miss her when she finally does graduate. And then when I talked to her family and they said after they she graduates, they're going to be moving out of state, which made us sad that we wouldn't see her around. But uh she has been fantastic and we look forward to her graduating. So, our 12th grade student of the month, Colette Wall. All right, thank you, Mr. Lynch. Next up from Lincoln Middle School, we have Principal Kyler Tobin. Mr. Tobin. Good evening, everyone. Thank you for coming out. Uh we always enjoy having everyone here and being able to recognize our students who uh are being uh awarded

the student of the month recognition. Uh I also want to point out we have our tech department installed new speakers in our uh cafeteria. So, the sound seems a little bit better. It's They worked really hard over spring break and recently putting these 10 speakers in. Um so, hopefully that comes through well and uh thank you to all those who were involved in making that happen. Our first student of the month for sixth grade is Xander Robertson. Xander, come on down. >> The students of the month are selected by their teachers, and the teachers do write up a short summary of why the student in that grade level earned this honor. And what they wrote is Xzander is a persistent, inquisitive, and very focused on doing well in his classes. He works well with his

peers and asks relevant questions. He's also well organized and serious about completing his tasks. Congratulations again to Xzander Robertson. Our student of the month for 7th grade is Emelyne Baca Samaniego. Emelyne is a dedicated and hardworking student who consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to her academics, as shown by earning honor roll in all three marking periods. She approaches her work with careful attention to detail and always puts forth her best effort in every class. Emelyne stands out for her active participation and her willingness to support and assist her peers. Her strong work ethic and enthusiasm make her a wonderful role model for her peers. Lucy has been on the honor roll all three marking periods and is actively involved in many extracurriculars such as the drama club. Congratulations once again for Lucy Curzius. And just in case you're wondering, shameless plug, but the uh Warrior Martial Arts Fitness did donate a VIP guest pass. That's what I'm handing out to your children if you see them receiving a card. All right then, moving on to item number six, president's remarks. So,

just a few words, brief words to say this evening. So, good evening. Welcome. So, I wanted to take a moment again to to congratulate all the students from who we would just recognize this evening. We're so proud of your accomplishments, so keep up the great work. I did want to note on March 26th, Mr. Anderson and I joined Mr. Ross, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Margaret, and Dr. Best at the annual Middlesex County Unsung Heroes Student Recognition held at Sayreville War Memorial High School. This This event celebrates students, one high school junior and one high school senior from each school district in Middlesex County who are recognized for their academic, athletic, and artistic achievements. The award itself is is meant to honor students who go above and beyond without expecting recognition or material awards. This year we

were really happy to celebrate Jayden Caraballo and Elani Gill as our Dunellen Unsung Heroes. So, congratulations to them. Staying healthy. So, again, as the weather is you know, funky, what was it like 80-something today and next week it's going to be in the 40s or something like that. And as this temperature yo-yos, it's important to underscore that healthy kids means healthy schools, which means a healthy community. Bottom line, we encourage you to take the common sense precautions to minimize the spread of infections that can really impact our school year. As I do, excuse me, at each board meeting, bring up monthly celebrations or things to call out in the month. In April, we have Arab Heritage Month, Sikh Heritage Month, we have Passover, we had Easter all in April. And April 2nd was World Autism

Day. And I mentioned these to underscore the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and most importantly belonging in the fabric of our daily lives and the impact impact that that has on our community. Open, honest, and equitable communication that is respectful, positive, supportive, fair, and most of all kind goes a long way in strengthening a community. Thank you everyone for your time and listening. I'll keep this short. We have a full agenda, so let's let's move on. Mr. Ross, moving on to you. Great, thank you, Dr. Gendrano. So, we'll start with our two student representative reports. So, we have Lisa Marie and Queen. Yeah. Um just wanted to welcome everyone back from our spring break. I hope everyone had a peaceful one. Uh practicum practicum documentation came out for the seniors and it's being wrapped it

up wrapped up by this Wednesday. NJGPA testing happened for the juniors, so we're going to see the scores come out very soon. Ninth grade orientation had occurred. College planning night uh had also happened. And the volleyball tournament was a very large success. A lot of people came up. And uh congratulations to the winning winning team. Um memorial uh the memorial and rap unveiling for the driver safety had happened. The sophomores had created um Yeah, murals for um like the hallways so that they can decorate and show like how to stay safe when driving as they're driving or they're learning in driver's ed. Um the live Shakes- We also had a live Shakespeare performance of Macbeth happen last week. It was very nice. Uh the performers were very talented. Uh the prep rally and spirit week

had also happened. The seniors won cuz that's just how we are. Um the honor roll assembly will be happening soon. Uh NJSL A testing will be happening at the end of this month. So, for all those who are testing, good luck to them. Outstanding student dinner will also be happening at the end of this month, and the soccer tournament will be opening up in May. Good evening. Thank you. Good evening, everyone. I'm here to share some exciting updates from the elementary school. Um our third grade students have been working hard to create animal habitats, including something really creative what they call a bug hotel. This project is part of their efforts to help our school become eco school certified, and we're very proud of their hard work. We've also started walking to school on Wednesdays,

an event where students walk to school each week, and they receive a hole punch. Towards the end of the program, they'll they'll earn a special reward. This has been a great way to encourage a healthy environment and boost school spirit. A couple of weeks ago, our fourth and fifth grade aquatic students had the opportunity to attend the climate summit at Rutgers University. With the active support of Mrs. Gunther and Mrs. Higgins, they were even able to present and show off everything they learned. I think we can all agree this is an amazing accomplishment. Another highlight at Faber is their reading buddy program. This gives students a chance to practice reading while also building connections all across different grade levels. It's been boosting confidence amongst the students and has created a stronger sense of community. Finally,

congratulations to our winners who participated in Read Across America Week. First place went to Mrs. Boudreau's second grade class. Second place went to Mrs. De Vito's class, and third place went to Miss Bosis Miss Bosis's class. At LMS, they recently had an event called Battle of the Classes, which has brought a boost of spirit for the students as the year is beginning to come to an end. They had fun competitive games for all the students, and we can thank the student council for planning it. A big addition to the school um was the new cafeteria tables that were installed over spring break. The color was selected by the LMS student voice group, and we can definitely thank them because they look lovely. LMS also recently had their eighth graders visit Middlesex College last month for

an event called Middle School Student Day. Of course, with any new event, there's always room for improvement, and luckily, they asked for the students and staff's feedback to help further improve that. Overall, it was a successful turnout for the middle school, and they are excited to return next year with the class of 2031. Upcoming for Lincoln Middle School, they plan to host their first ever book fair. Thank you to Mrs. Travers who look who took the initiative to bring the fair to LMS this year. Students have the opportunity to go to the fair during school and also have the opportunity to come after school from around 3:00 to 3:30. Testing for NJSLA begins April 28th and 29th with reading and writing, then will resume again on May 5th and 6th for the science unit unit,

and then once more on May 19th for the math test. For the sixth grade students, there will be an orientation held May 27th at 6:30 p.m. Thank you guys for your time and continued support for our school community. All right, let's give our students a a nice round of applause. Excellent job. Excellent job as always. All right, we're going to let them go so they can study cuz they have lots of homework that they have to do. Um all right, moving on, we're going to I'm going to pass the mic over to Mr. Pepi to provide the construction update. All right, good evening. Um as I do every month, I just want to point out that the update, which is posted online, includes the background of the project. So, anyone who's new to the conversation

has not heard the previous ones, you can get caught up quickly to understand uh this project. So, moving forward, we had since the last report, we've had two more construction meetings, plus we had spring break, which is a big time for construction project. They did a lot of made a lot of progress with the footings and the piers. Um had to do a little bit of dance work coming uh with with the barrier had to come down and then get put back up and we were very pleased that everything was done neat and looked great coming back from the spring break. Um so, good job on that. The work that's been completed Sorry. Uh the work that's been completed since my last uh report is still working with the footings. Um most of the excavations

complete. There's concrete being poured. They're making a lot of progress with that. They're starting to put the piers that are going to hold up the steel. And um they we've started inspections for um not only the the pouring of the concrete, but also for dry packing and for backfilling. So, all of these things have been going on. On the report, if you like to see some numbers, I did um include uh numbers that show you just how many how much progress they've made. Uh it's been good. Um upcoming, it's going to be continuation of the same work for the next few weeks. Um we're going to be continuing. There's a just a little bit of excavation left and then finishing up with all of the concrete pouring. And um some minor demolition work here and

there and they're starting to work on the stairwell and the elevator. Um so, they're making progress and uh we'll keep keep you apprised month to month as we go. There are no new change orders or uh allowance authorizations this month. Um for those of you who have are not familiar with those word those phrases, a change order or an allowance authorization are a mechanism for adding things to the project that weren't in the original bid. There is an allowance built into every construction bid. In our case, it was $250,000. So, the first $250,000 of additional work that was not foreseen when we bid the project does not does not increase the contract price. And those are your allowance authorizations cuz they're allowing the contractor to draw down from the allowance. Once we use up all

of the allowance, if there are still things that come up, then we start with change orders which can actually increase the contract price. So, as I said, for this report, there are no new allowance authorizations or change orders, and that's my report. All right. Thank you, Mr. Pappy. Just a few general items on the agenda. We are approving um Chris Young, Mr. Young, as the school safety specialist. Mr. Young has undergone significant training from the Department of Education and OSBEP. Obviously, he has a law enforcement background, but the specific training that he's done has has been really excellent. So, he'll be taking over that role following this agenda for Mr. Tobin who served in the position for a number of years. Mr. Merenberg took that position over as well when he was here. So, we're

excited to have Mr. Young on the lead in that position. He's been a great addition to the district. We had a meeting with Studer yesterday. This was check-in for the quarter three and post sort of mid midway check-in. The data from the schools is excellent. There's a lot of really significant progress in all of the metrics that we've been that we've been working on very closely. And the continuous improvement work that we've done and the check-ins and the systems have been really successful. So, it's excellent work for the students. I know that there are great academic outputs that we can be excited about. A lot of really great SEL outputs that we can be really excited about and I'm very proud of the administrative team who's taken on um this work. Lastly, I just want

to mention that the bike rodeo is going to be held on Thursday, May 7th. That's going to be at Faber. That's a partnership with Keep Middlesex Moving. We had our first one last year and we will have a number of uh partners who will be there supporting the bike rodeo um and um and obviously the the mayor's uh traffic and pedestrian safety um group is the uh the bureau representative as well. So, it's this is really a great town school uh partnership. We're very excited to have them as our partners and uh Keep Middlesex Moving as well. Um and with that, the enrollment report, we have a total of 1,419 students in the district including our private pre-K. We have um 605 students at Faber, 317 at the middle school, and 410. And we're up

to 87 students that are being served at uh uh at our private providers um in pre-K. Preschool registration and kindergarten registration are now open and preschool registration is very, very high at this point. So, we're excited to get to that universal number of post-90% of potential enrollees um and I know that obviously that's been game-changing for the for the town and for the district and we're excited to see it continue to expand next year. So, that is my report. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Ross. So, uh moving on to item number eight, public comments. Uh in accordance with policy 0167, the Board of Education recognizes the value of public comment um on educational issues and the importance of allowing members of the public to express themselves on school matters of community interest. At this time,

the board invites public comment on agenda action items uh to be voted on only. The board and administration will take notes during public comment but will not provide substantive responses to questions or concerns raised by individual speakers. If necessary, the superintendent may provide a brief response after the entire public comment period is completed. The board appreciates and welcomes feedback from the community, but is not at liberty to engage in a back-and-forth dialogue with members of the public during this portion of the meeting. Prior to making your public comment, please state your name and municipality. Please note that all statements must be directed to the presiding officer. Please come to the microphone at this time if you'd like to make comments on agenda action items to be voted on only. Prior to beginning your comment, please

state the action item to be voted on and that you would like to comment on. Any comments? Last call. Okay, moving on to item nine, uh committee reports. Um So, I'll turn it over to uh Ms. Eibach for the education committee report as she's the chair. Thank you, Dr. Genovese. Uh the education committee did not meet this past month, but an agenda was shared outlining a number of items including a wide range of staff professional development and coaching activities occurring throughout the district, information related to the ongoing grant work across the three schools, the preschool registration process for 2026-2027 school year, and a variety of other items and confidential matters. Thank you. Okay. Thank you very much. Thank you, Ms. Eibach. Moving on to committee report from the personnel committee. Um Ms. Shep is our

chair and she is not with us tonight, so I'll I'll just go ahead and read through that real quick. So, the personnel committee did not meet uh this time around, but an agenda was shared outlining a number of items including staffing information for the current year including uh changes to the assignment of the school safety specialist position um and the approval of additional summer hours of work to support family outreach and registration support. Excuse me. Updates about the evaluation process for non-tenured staff members, um, as well as a number of confidential items. So, moving on to, um, 9C operations, um, that's my committee and the, the Sorry, one more page. Uh, the operations committee did meet on April 7th and discussed a number of items including updates related to the universal pre-K expansion facilities project,

updates on other construction projects, um, an update on the cooperative purchasing and a variety of confidential matters. Um, moving on to, uh, committee report for policy, uh, we don't have any report for that this evening. Uh, for negotiations, we will do that in in executive session. Um, and I'd like to, um, add one more, uh, for the um, committee report for ad hoc, uh, interim. Ms. Condit. Can you use the microphone, please? Can you hear me? Yes, thank you. Okay. For the interim, uh, su- for the interim superin- superintendent ad hoc committee, uh, we met on April 6th to discuss the selection process for an interim superintendent. Present at the meeting were myself, Sarah Ibek, Gregory Mitchell, Noel Gendrano, Mr. Peppy, and uh, Mr. John Comagno. The committee also met again on April 10th to

review applicants for the interim superintendent position. Present at this meeting were myself, Gregory Mitchell, Sharonda Sheriff, Noel Gendrano, Mr. Peppy, Mr. John Comagno, and Dr. Sarah Bilotti. After the conclusion of this meeting, the committee chairs, um, I The committee chairs sent an email to all the board members with an update on the selection process. Okay. That's it. Thank you. Okay. Thank you, Ms. Conde. Moving on to item number 10, approval of minutes. Looking for a motion to approve 10 A, B, and C or and yeah, 10 10 A, B, and C as a block. These are the um board meet board meeting minutes from March 17th, March 24th, and March 30th. So, looking for motion to approve 10 A, B, and C. Move to approve 10 A, B, and C as a block. Second. Open

for questions or comments. Where does the ad hoc fall? Do we have to add a D? Sorry? The ad hoc committee that we just discussed does it have to be added as a D? Um I mean that we we we met as as a committee not as a full board. Any any other questions, comments? Okay. Mr. Pappy, can you please call the roll? Sorry, I lost my place. Here we go. Mr. Anderson? Yes. Mrs. Conde? Yes. Ms. Ibek? Yes. Dr. Gindrano? Yes. Mr. Mitchell? Yes. Mrs. Moore? Yes. Mr. Saanoy? Yes. Ms. Shimpf? Yes. The motion passes. Wonderful, wonderful.
