in patrick o'sullivan that's right a lot of information but quick so sue it's all yours um we did meet on january 19th uh as a hybrid model and we started our meeting as we typically do with our capital projects mr keating shared with us the projects that we're going to be working on this coming year and and putting on to the agenda for following years as far as that goes the varsity baseball field project at sandberg is currently stalled due to the weather and mr keating was checking with the contractors to discuss what that delay would look like the roof phase 2 project is on target for june the work on phase one solar project should begin in february so it's right around the corner here the uh engineers were still working on the drawings
for the pool filter renovation at sandberg so we're still pending on that the elevator renovation at andrew and sandberg which is two elevators that are the oldest elevators we have in the district um we look at having that start work in june as well and we have a water main replacement at sandberg we've had issues at sandburg for on and off over the years and we are just going to make sure that we fix it instead of putting band-aids on it and that will be coming as well we discussed the removal a bit for the roofs of part of the asbestos removal i will let mr keating cover that later on in the meeting today as it's on our agenda we then moved on to the budget and finance and went over our numbers and
talked about our tax appeals along with the resolution for transfer of interest and a public hearing for the transfer of funds mr lavell will be sharing that with us tonight so i will just leave that for that along with our um an update on the evidence-based funding and we talked a little bit about our wellness event that was getting a good response that was coming uh coming up and transportation looked stellar it's been great all year no issues there and then just covered a couple of our routine policies that were up for a second reading and then our meeting our next meeting is scheduled for tuesday february 16th at 7 pm and again we expected you a hybrid of that meeting as well any questions for sue okay thank you sue all right uh so
at this time uh teachers there are no respect no um comment no comments and uh esp yes i believe someone from esp is online yes hello it's tracy kozenza in for deb sandoval and we we do not have anything other than well wishes at this time thank you thank you tracy okay uh then before we get to our student reports um as as we all are aware there is a uh transition committee in place getting ready to uh work or currently working on a product process to determine how we get back to school and so dr dr gay and i talked about uh starting to discuss that process at these meetings so that we can give everyone an update as to where we are and where we're going so uh tonight will be the first
report thank you um actually it's a that's part of the report it's kind of a big report where we are right now with our stages so a little bit background uh could you hear me on the microphone yeah okay thank you um as we are three weeks in the second semester i want to provide an update on a number of topics first and foremost i'm currently incredibly grateful for the support of the district 230 community over the past 10 months it is important to reflect on all that has been accomplished and to express the sincere gratitude i have for our students staff school board families and community it certainly has been a wild ride but together we are making great things happen for our students and this is only possible because of the dedication and
compassion of the d230 family while we may not always agree the common belief that our students deserve the best education possible given the circumstances is what guides us so stage three since september 28th and that's an important date since september 28 2020 four months four months to the day to be exact we implemented our hybrid model that is when we implemented stage two three months ago on october 26th we implemented stage three before many school districts families have had the choice of hybrid remote on-site or fully remote learning i believe it's incredibly important that our students and families have this choice based on their commitment level and individual needs currently our families are very split evenly split with between 47 and 53 percent of families choosing remote and between 47 and 53 choosing hybrid option
our students have been flexible persistent and compassionate as they access learning in totally different ways and have supported each other and the community our staff has done an amazing job adjusting the way we teach and provide supports to meet the needs of our students and flexibility no no bounds the video you will see this evening and the hybrid teaching from sandberg tonight is a true indication on just how awesome our staff has been and that extends across the district to each of our schools our pps teams have done an amazing job of outreach and connecting students and families to the resources they need they are available for any student in need of assistance as say something schools we encourage students and staff to share with our pps teams if they know of any student who
is struggling our buildings and grounds crews have worked tirelessly to maintain clean and safe learning environments and with recent snow power issues and weather piled on top our administration have worked collaboratively and have been incredibly nimble as they've adjusted and readjusted and readjusted again to changing state guidelines and the many curveballs they've been that has been thrown at them our school board has been supportive all of us along the way as i've talked to superintendents across the state i've seen that the issues we are we all face are similar and daunting i've also seen that we in d230 have been able to navigate those issues with collaboration that's not always seen elsewhere has it always been done perfectly no but i know that we've all kept the best interest of students at the heart of
what we do in order to keep what we do best for our students covet 19 dashboard shows our health and safety efforts are working it's important information for the first semester the average covert 19 impact on campus was incredibly low on an average week there were 3913 students and staff on campus with an average of 11 reported covet 19 cases and 16 closed contacts data from last week shows that 99.8 percent of students and staff on site are not impacted by cover 19 positive tests or close contests context there are four positive cases in three close contacts reported this shows that our schools are safe and our safety protocols work the dashboard can be found at d230.org cova 19 which allows families access to information they need to make informed decisions cobia 19 vaccines there
is hope on the way district 230 is committed to assist our staff members to get vaccinated for the coba 19 and our regular communication to coordinate with the agencies who can help us get that done i've been working closely with the intermediate service center and cook county department of public health to assure vaccine doses are secured for our staff we have served at our staff and know that approximately 85 percent of our staff members would like to get the vaccine through the cook county department of public health others may prefer to secure the vaccine through other venues those staff who are category 1a health professionals which includes school nurses school psychologists social workers and some other physicians have been able to schedule appointments to receive the vaccine several have already completed the two dose cycle
the remainder of our staff is in category 1b the district has provided information regarding vaccine sites throughout the region including health departments locations and the tinley park convention center several have shared with me that they were able to schedule through those sites and have already received the first dose district 230 and school districts throughout our region are working with the intermediate service center and cocaine department of public health to establish vaccination sites in a number of schools to meet the needs of educators across the region those specific location details are still in the works as mr serratore talked about we began a transition advisory committee so we as we plan for fully on site when the time is right with the whole helpful hopeful news of vaccines becoming available we're looking toward the future when
we can turn return on-site fully while the timing of that is dependent on a number of factors including the state movement of phase 5 as well as illinois department of public health and cook high department of public health guidelines but we are preparing to be ready when that time comes i've asked dr nolting to chair a staff transition advisory committee comprised of teacher association esp association food service association and administrative representatives to brainstorm problem-solving ideas to recommend to the oversight committee on a wide range of topics related to our eventual return to fully on site the team will conduct research propose ideas and serve as key communicators to their representative stakeholders that's an ulting shared with committee that we know that the long-term effects of this pandemic will need to be considered while the health
crisis may end the fallout and lasting effects will linger it will be a different reality for all of us at the committee's first meeting they brainstorm a number of potential topics to explore related to the following communications health health safety protocols and building operations technology and instruction academic intervention student support services co-curricular and school events staff support professional development and recognition there's a lot to be considered and i'm confident this group of staff members will do an excellent job of identifying needs researching solutions and proposing recommendations for the oversight committee they will meet every other week remotely to accomplish these tasks p s a t n m s q t and impact a and true 20 20 and through 20 20 21 school year fashion the weather gave us a run for our money on
tuesday when the psat and nmsqt exam was held fortunately the weather wasn't as bad as forecasted and our grounds crews were able were on top of the snowfall making sure staff and students could safely report to campus fortunately our schools had planned for the majority of students to be fully remote that day for impact day activities so that worked in our favor and talking with students and staff this week impact activities have been well received and seen as impeccable while equity activities look different in each school because the work has been tailored to meet the needs of each campus the underlying purpose of advancing conversations regarding equity inclusion and belonging was successful these conversations have been taking place in smaller settings with groups of students and staff over the past three years tuesday's impact day
gave the schools the opportunity to amplify those conversations to a broader student body the students i talked to this week shared that they felt the conversations were respectful and well-received among their peers they valued that their teachers and administrators put time and effort into structuring conversations that made them feel comfortable talking about these important topics feedback from impact day will guide future planning for all of our schools i'm incredibly proud of our administrators teachers staff and students for embracing these conversations and finding ways to strengthen the relationship in our schools and communities now there is much work to be done in this area and i'm hopeful that this generation of student leaders will make a difference for our schools district community and world a sum it up i'm incredibly proud of the district 230 family
despite all that has been thrown at us over the past 10 months we are still providing the best possible education we can given the circumstances we've been working in crisis mode for 10 months it's students are still learning students still know we care about them has this been ideal absolutely not have we done all we can given the circumstances we are dealt absolutely yes and that is why continue to be and always will be d230 proud all right thank you dr gay and i look forward to the monthly updates on where we are and uh hopefully uh you know the day will not be far away when we can get back to some sort of normalcy our plan yes plan two yep that's true all right we have three young ladies anxiously awaiting to uh
provide us with the reports tonight so i'm not sure how you guys decided who would go first but uh it's your floor i'm going first night okay good evening and happy 2021 i am very excited for this new year and for semester two of the 2020 2021 school year well this month has consisted of easing back into the remote such hybrid learning schedule there has been some excellent news released and a few things to report i think this is something i should definitely start with the ihsa has released some great news about athletics select sports are starting back up and contact days will beginning in the near future off-season programs are already starting and it's great to see people in the gyms again seeing my peers getting excited for their supports especially the seniors who

positive environment within the andrew community and had great conversations about equity it was a very informative day and beneficial to all the national honor society is keeping their members busy by providing fun community service opportunities members were asked to build snowmen at smith crossing a senior living residency to provide some cheer to the residents while there is snow it was great it was a great event and a lot of members and their families came out to help build them student council and the senior leaders are formulating plans for some events in the near and distant future we are hoping to have a strong end to this year and will accomplish this by changing some of our normal end of the year events to make them safer for students and staff more updates about future events

on january 6th i was thrilled sandberg isn't just a school it means so much more to so many generations of students who have walked in and out of its doors it's allowed for students to grow and flourish created smiles on so many faces and allowed students to feel at home most importantly it has shaped people into who they are today for these reasons i would like to wish carl sandburg a sincere happy birthday to continue this month's theme was all about connectedness and dignity on january 26th and 27th sambar hosted a student equity and belonging workshop in which students came together to discuss important topics of identity cultural awareness and intelligence and the important and the importance of honoring dignity within school communities students had the chance to engage in reflective listening drills and dialogue
about important topics in a safe space while student equity leaders served as breakout room facilitators students also participated in continued stop start discussion to bring student voice and feedback to future equity plans as one of the attendees and a current student council board member isabella torres stated beautifully the long term of the long-term goal of sambar's equity work is to honor the dignity of every student maximize their school experience and eventually hold a student-run and student-facilitated conference for local schools we hope to see these workshops continue to bring students together and allow them to have these vital conversations student equity leaders debriefed workshops as a result we'll be continuing to work with dr tyrell mr gardner and our consultant trent to develop lesson plans and facilitators agendas for future workshops january 26th was a busy
day at sandburg as nearly 400 juniors took the psat slash nmsqt we wish them all the best of luck my brother a junior told me he and his classmates felt an overwhelming sense of support from the staff although he isn't a big test-taking fan he appreciated how smoothly it all ran students who were not taking the psat or attending the student voice equity workshop attended an equity webinar in which dr tyrell ms smith and student equity leaders nico dallas and rosella or fran facilitated students had the opportunity to learn more about student voice equity work that is occurring at sandberg develop a foundation of common language learn about the dignity framework and hear about next steps dr tyrell presents collected hybrid and presenters were also able to gather student feedback about their sandbox experience through
the chat feature and the survey that all the participants took after the webinar we would like to congratulate several groups for example for exemplifying the phrase hashtag win the day on january 12th sandberg's chess team took a big win over andrew for the swsc title activities are in full swing and our programs cannot wait for the ihsa regional sectional and state competitions we look forward to seeing great postseasons i would also like to congratulate the five eagle musicians that have been named the ilmea allstate from orchestra simon han francesca pagani and arusha sharma and from choir trevor trevor buenos champion we're so proud of these elite musicians we are also thrilled that our student athletes and now are now back at gyms pools blowing alleys as the ihsa athletics have restarted winter sports are rolling

the season you can't get much better than that service continues to be an important part of the entire side community over the last few months our international club has coordinated a holiday lights recycling drive instead of old or broken light strands being dumped into a landfill they were being recycled and profits from this go go to support organizations in need it's a win-win we prevent race and raise money this was not only a hit at stag but also for the community members who took advantage of the opportunity including a stag neighbor who donated an entire suv worth of old lights we love the chance to work with our awesome community and appreciate their support tremendously our theater program continues to provide students the opportunities for creative out for creative outlets through performances our winter show
and contest play has been cast and are feverishly rehearsing the two comical performances to be released next month we look forward to enjoying their release this is all for this month but i look forward to sharing more exciting updates from our chargers in february thank you thank you ladies thank you so much we appreciate it and uh hopefully as uh things continue to improve in the state uh we'll get to see you back here with us sooner rather than later and i know the opening up of sports has really got to be a positive boost for everyone and hopefully a good sign going forward ladies before you leave um i want you to just hang out for another minute or so because i have some some really good and important news that i think we
should share with everyone uh recently our superintendent dr gay uh has been awarded the illinois association of school administrators superintendent of distinction for south cook now of course i think it should be for the entire state but we'll take south cook at this time his selection was based on his leadership ability community involvement and professionalism and he will be honored in may by the iasa uh with the regional award winners from throughout the state and i can say honestly that this honor is extremely overdue and it's also very well deserved and uh i am very glad uh that uh you finally were recognized for all your achievements those of us in the district know it and we know that many of the other superintendents in the state know it but to have it formally recognized
uh is uh something that as i said is long overdue so uh on behalf of the board and i'm sure some of the board members would also like to chirp in but a heartfelt congratulations because it is well deserved [Applause] anyone else um being on the board with dr gay um being on this side of things we are keenly aware of the hours and dedication that dr gay not only serves district 230 their students the faculty and our community as a whole but he also looks out for the interest of other school districts especially our partner schools and education as a whole for the state and the nation we are very fortunate to have dr gay's dedication and love for education and he does this by building relationships by following through on those tasks that
are at hand and by energizing those people that are in the circle including this board so you um we're all very pleased that you were finally recognized as mr saratori said should be statewide recognition but thank you for your dedication we see the tirelessly efforts not wanting to take a day off being afraid not being here um if something were to occur and also um fostering those in our district to be able to take those roles as things change so thank you very much well well i'm going to save a lot of this for for june but it hasn't been prompted now um you know in this district even fairly recently we've had principals of the year we've had board presidents of the year we've had so many awards nationwide and locally and across the
state and that's purely a function of leadership and you've been the leader of this district you've been the constant since 2007. so it is is long overdue like tony said that that you get recognized for all your all your hard work and all your leadership but it goes to show how humble you are because this is one of the few awards i remember you getting over all these years yet everybody else that works with you gets all the accolades so that speaks a lot to the type of person i would really appreciate it and congratulations and hopefully more to come yep hopefully thank you okay um just to piggyback on pat as we look ahead in the years to come leaders are those who empower others and that's exactly what you've done with all of
your administration with the entire district dr gay um if your actions inspire others to dream more learn more do more and become more then you sir are a great leader we are very grateful to have you as our fearless leader to especially in this past year it was a rough one we're so grateful to have you at the helmet and navigate not only the district but the community through these rough waters you deserve this award and many more for your outstanding leadership it's been an honor to serve with you and to help serve the the entire 230 community so thank you thank you okay [Applause] the reflection of the whole board and this is they have to give the someone something to the superintendent but it's really a reflection of all the work you guys
do with the board staff the administration the students the community i mean i feel so blessed to be able to be here for so long um maybe longer than most people maybe some point you know i love being here and uh i i i'm honored when they when they share this with me i didn't share with anyone else i just i don't think the principals even knew this you know i just kind of they didn't know no i just charlie saw this this came out and you know just keep this under your hands and i guess you didn't she did but i appreciate the climate well again well deserved and well overdue and we are very proud so thank you for what you've done for us okay then i think the next item is public
hands none none okay then we will move to academic spotlight i believe derek smith if i'm correct yes is that mine and um derek if you'd like to introduce what is going to happen yeah thank you thank you dr dave you guys hear me and see me okay yes sir yes sir got it thank you uh thank you dr gay uh you know what a great honor congratulations a great honor but greatly deserved so uh you know much much much accolades to you and now you know just really a great honor and i hope to celebrate with you sometime soon so uh good evening everyone excited to be here tonight to talk a little bit about uh hybrid instruction and share some of the great work of our teachers in hybrid learning this year at
sandberg so i i think it's almost one year to the day from when i zoomed in to a board meeting for an academic spotlight from nashville to share some of sandberg's work related to the district 230 pillars of quality instruction i i think some of those ideas will come up tonight but uh one year later we're now facilitating a lot of meeting and zoom and and i definitely hope that next time i'm able to pop into one of these meetings and kind of hang out in the same space with everyone so um i had the opportunity this week uh to collaborate with reese mcintyre and some of our teachers at sandberg and our goal was to invite in some of our sandberg superstars as i like to call them and share a little bit about
their experiences this year in hybrid learning so we're able to visit some classrooms we're able to have some conversations with them and those conversations were really guided by uh four framing questions or ideas uh the first being we wanted to hear a little bit about some of their hybrid learning instructional successes so what's really gone well this year instructionally uh secondly what has been maybe a challenge instructionally that really became a success or was really powerful for students once they were able to kind of implement it in their classes third what would their students say is their favorite part of their hybrid classrooms this year and then the fourth idea was really future focus looking forward so uh what instructional moves or practices that we were able to cultivate or develop this year will endure
beyond this school year and really benefit our students and our classrooms moving forward so i'm going to have carla advance the slide and play the video so we can share a little bit of what we learned in the hybrid learning format a lot has had to change now is the time where teachers are really having to be creative and flexible i've had a lot of success with some tech tools like jamboard like online polls like paradec even some tools embedded in canvas that allow me to create kind of engaging learning for students even through the screen i think the greatest successes is the ability to take risks but there's also challenges that go along with it sometimes it doesn't quite go as planned and having those students you know supporting it is really important so
when i do talk to my students like hey this might be the first time we're doing this i need your help along with this lesson we're kind of all in it together the students continue to learn and grow because they're so resilient in their efforts it feels still like a classroom community i think the students still feel part of the class connected to the class of responsibility to the class just as they would if they were all 32 of them in the classroom at the same time you know for me something i constantly want to work on is the technology piece i love the in-class learning i love seeing kids i love seeing their faces and learning things like flippity.net creating jeopardy games using whiteboard.fi using those elements that i'd never used before became fun
and became interesting become engaging became an opportunity for me to be a learner i still think it's very very important to be able to allow them to have some cooperative learning because it's a life skill it's important beyond high school they need to learn to do that but getting used to that again creating that climate creating that culture in a classroom so very very important and then you're able to do more things from it something that we've tried really hard to maintain is kind of that innovation in creating activities and engaging work for students that still highlights those three main modes of communication that we find so important to increase student proficiency levels i think students enjoyed class discussion they enjoyed the classic ability to talk about ideas discuss their own experiences of what they've
seen in through their educational lives in all these unique circumstances i think the irony is that the most enjoyable parts were the the parts that we valued so much prior to this hybrid situation if you had to ask my students what their favorite part of my class is i think hands down they would say the gamifying aspect of the classroom they love playing online games like gim kit look it flash card factory quizlet live whatever it is they're always so engaged they all have that competitive nature that they love and it's a great formative assessment for me at the middle or end of my class period on any given day i might run one of those games to see their understanding of vocab or content or check their understanding on a tense that we're learning
in spanish and i get that feedback immediately i think we're definitely making a big push towards blended learning this environment has gotten teachers out of their comfort zone luckily i was familiar with canvas and kind of part of the blended learning cohort but i think there's going to be now this greater push towards blended since that's kind of where we kind of are even though i had kids for an entire semester one of the assignments that uh that i i learned from this was starting a sentence with i wish my teacher knew i got to be honest with you the responses i got were amazing i shed a tear on some some of them some stories i never knew my kids knew that they shared and it gives me chills to think about it's those
connections with kids it's understanding their story relating with them and that shouldn't stop in this i knew that it was going to be important for me to connect to students on a more personal level to get to know more about them i'm trying to get to know more about them trying to create kind of a vibe in a class that feels comfortable to them where they want their voice to be heard and create a connection with their classmates that maybe they wouldn't get in every other class that they're in during the day [Music] so much to celebrate in that video each time i watch it i'm more excited and proud of our teachers and our students so i love the fitted footage of victoria emily and dave staying in their classrooms like really getting after
it instructionally they're they're teaching they're standing up they're looking at the students that are online they're providing instruction to the students that are in the classroom and all these things are happening simultaneously so i could probably talk about the elements of the video for an hour or so uh good news i'll streamline things here but just some takeaways for us to celebrate but then also to think about uh as we progress moving forward in our in our progression and transition so uh the first idea is that the the hybrid framework has helped us forge even stronger connections between technology and quality instruction i always say that instructional technology is at its best when it helps us amplify instructional practices like the d230 pillars in the video you heard emily dave ashley and george share some
of those practices in the video and how platforms like pear deck and others have helped them infuse those strategies into their classroom so it's really exciting to think about how good instruction and technology will be even more powerful and more influential for students in district 230 moving forward second takeaway relates to the idea of expanded learning opportunities chris milo talked about different learning frameworks and the blended platform and how different learning opportunities are changing the how when what and why of how students are engaging with with the content that we put in front of them in our classes and we'll definitely carry those opportunities with us in the future the last idea the one that i'm thinking a lot about is uh this idea of connections and community that um every one of our teachers
when we asked them uh what was some of the most powerful things that they've done this year they talked about the connections they made with students that they've been really explicit with uh how they've connected with kids and maybe employed some additional strategies to make sure that they were forming those close bonds with students we've heard that from our student advisory groups they've been effusive in their praise of how our staff has prioritized relationships and getting to know them as students in hybrid learning so many times those connections have been forged between students and teachers when they've never actually been in the same physical space together and i think that's truly a point of pride and something to celebrate it's crazy to think that hybrid learning may help us do an even better job in
the future in forming positive relationships with students that impact their d230 experience so it's an idea i've shared with staff sometimes in trainings and workshops that just having a good relationship with a student has an effect size of about 0.6 so can that that relationship can really have a positive effect on the student's learning so students learn more history they learn more math or they learn more science when that positive relationship is there and i think our students are going to benefit from those types of classrooms and experiences moving forward in our conversation with victoria phillips uh one of our english teachers she shared the plato quote that necessity is the mother of invention and connected that to how she's grown this year as a teacher in our hybrid framework and i think all of
us have done that throughout this school year the urgency of now has helped us implement things that we didn't think were possible nine to ten months ago and it's really cool to think about how what we've invented in these challenging times might help us improve instruction and learning and our district overall moving forward and all this is a result of what we've been able to do this year within hybrid learning uh so i thank you for this opportunity to share some of our teachers great work with you tonight i look forward to any and all opportunities in the future to come back and share more and gosh darn it i hope i'm doing it in person at some point so thank you very much thank you daryn does anybody have any questions for derek all

gate um good it was really uh we did the personnel we did the policies they i would have covered um there's really um you know i think uh as far as the general assembly a lot of things i shared with you guys already the first 101 and 102 now is in session 101 is general summit's over the new one started they're calling for a very abbreviated spring session they keep cutting time down keep cutting time down so um we've been very active in trying to deal with some of the bills that are being brought forth that affect schools um actually i believe that i'll be going to springfield next month i think it is doesn't it and i i think i'm actually physically going to be there with isa board of directors to make some
movements that are going on because we're very concerned that they're going to really abbreviate the amount of time they get there and um that concerns us at times when things are done quickly you know so as you've seen you've heard things about graduation requirements you talk about extend today evidence-based model funding you know there's a lot of things on the table there was a i think 5 000 bills in education they brought them down to a couple hundred but we are on top of that that's all i have sir okay um so then uh at this point then we will go to board comments and uh mike sure um i think we had a good meeting tonight guys i think we accomplished a lot congratulations dr gay i would have said something i just don't
like to be repetitive in those but we appreciate you know i know i met dr gay at rotary which is charitable i've been at uh events with them talking to business leaders which had a little bit through the school in the education but i think that just goes to show you how he puts the community above and beyond everything lastly thank you everybody in the room um on zoom call people not on the zoom call they reached out over the last couple weeks it really meant a lot thank you thank you okay mike you're welcome i hope you're doing okay oh yeah thanks pat uh first happy new year everybody technically you haven't seen each other since before christmas um but other than that just again congratulations to jim and everybody here um you know
jim would say that we're all we're part of a big community big family um so jim gets all the accolades as he well should but uh a lot of people are responsible too and he'd be the first one to say that so congrats again and uh see you in four weeks okay kate uh jim um i'd just like to add that all the things that people said about you i you know are all true obviously and the the achievement and the award is uh very very well received or well deserved but um the two things that two words that come to mind when i think of you is respect because you respect people and people respect you and integrity because you are a man of integrity and that's something that is a wonderful thing to
have as a superintendent and someone who is in charge of our district so thank you for that and thank you for your constant constant support of everybody that's involved in our area thank you kate what's up i'm just a happy new year i think that there's some positive on the horizons here with the rollout of these vaccines i understand there's a glitch here at the beginning but i think once they get it rolling um we will be much closer to getting back to a more free life and hopefully we can bring the more kids back in and we can have more meetings in person uh it's been difficult but again i have to say what i said before great leader you held us they held the ship together and we managed much better than uh
our fellow educators in chicago okay we we've made great strides we were ahead of the ball game with our hybrid learning anyway even today there was uh some of you might not know there was a power outage at stake high school and so there was an emergency all call and about quarter to eight this morning to put everybody hybrid okay so i'm sure there were some people already on their way to stag maybe even just getting to stay for zero hour but we could easily jump back into hybrid without losing any time or instruction time so um there there really are some pluses that came out of this horrible experience the international phase but i think our district really stood tall so thank you again dr gay honestly for for all of your uh palm
leadership it was a rough one and you did great so thank you dave um yeah happy new year to everyone and uh jim i i certainly am not going to elaborate uh more so than everything that's already been eloquently said by my colleagues here but uh you are a true leader and uh this is uh termed a a uh you were superintendent of distinction award as i understand that the official name of it and i think that's appropriate because you are certainly distinct from all of your colleagues you have kind of steered the ship and we do appreciate all of your leadership and your integrity every single day with that um thanks thank you all right sue um i spoke my piece earlier um we are um very fortunate to have you uh and happy
to have you recognized and we will save the next round of settlements a little closer to the end of june yeah absolutely and i just want to um recognize the hard work that's going on in the district our teachers our support staff down to our food service and then we can look at our administration and the team coming together and supporting the various levels for learning this is a difficult time and it's been a long time it's getting drawn out and some of us are getting a little tired of the same old same old but there is light at the end of the tunnel we're starting to see a beam of light and so i just want to encourage everyone to continue to stick to it our students have been um real troopers through all
of this because there's been a lot of disappointments and now that we have some sports on the horizon and some more virtual theater and music those are things to look forward to so just want to encourage everyone to stick to it and we will be back to semi-norm sooner than later and so doesn't want to recognize all their efforts during this difficult time thanks sue um you know seeing the presentation that there gave tonight was great um because it did show that you know as a few of you already said there's there's a lot of positives that have come out of this year and hopefully positives that we can carry forward as as we move ahead and and i think everybody's learned a lot um and uh it also brought to mind a conversation that
that dr gay and i had uh it was late last week or early this week they all blend together as we both say all the time um but you know we talked about you know all the issues that are going on in chicago and all the problems they're having and whatever and then you come back and look at our district and uh yes we had some bumps in the road and things weren't always where we wanted them to be in there were disagreements and issues but somehow we got our teachers in the classroom in september we got our students in the classroom and we basically have been in the classroom since september we've given our our kids the best opportunity in an education they can get under the current circumstances our teachers our staff everybody
has been has been tremendous and uh you know again uh you know when when you think about 230 when you look at 230 there's a heck of a lot of positives that happen here and there's a lot to be proud of and it's not by accident it is not by accident and it's just again i said it before i'll say it again it starts at the top and you my friend are definitely the reason we get to where we are and you've got a great support team behind you um and we are so fortunate to have the people we do in this district because you know we are a leader and we are innovative and uh i'm proud that our students get the best education they possibly can and our teachers understand that the most
important thing is to take care of our students and so for that i thank everybody and uh please accept know you know happiness for you because i know that that you uh you are probably embarrassed a little bit from asking lisa likes knowing how you are but uh once again uh thank you let's end the meeting with uh with the hearty congratulations thank you everybody and hopefully next yeah and hopefully next month maybe we'll be in another level that we can open up the meeting and maybe have more people here physically so that would be a great thing and with that i would like to entertain a motion to adjourn i'll move second okay motion made by member heartache seconded by member gracias to adjourn do we have any question no can we vote please
happy birthday lisa yes hbde [Laughter] happy birthday lisa yes many happy birthday yes happy birthday youngster yes and with that we are adjourned
