Testing. Testing one, two. Testing. >> Testing. Testing. Okay, I would like to call this meeting to order for Creek Monet >> Creek Mon School Board regular school board meeting. Today is February 17th, 2026. The time is 6:30 p.m. Madame Secretary, roll call, please. >> Mr. Brown, >> here. >> Mr. Gagos. >> Alex, your name was called >> here. >> Zombress is here. Dr. Hall. >> Mr. Swallish >> here. >> Alex, if you can go on mute. Miss Venegas here. Miss Wolfk here. >> Okay. Let us stand for the pledge of allegiance led by Mr. uh Vice President Ghagos and mission statement read by our board secretary Jamie. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag To the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty
and justice for all. >> Our mission statement is to engage and empower our students to positively impact their community and future. >> Thank you both, Alex and Jamie. Do we have any public comments written or in person? >> We do. Okay. Do we have any any board updates? >> Okay. Hearing none. >> The only one um if you guys read the FYI and the updates, it looked like our kids all the way around did did very well in athletics and arts and all that. >> I mean, there was a lot of good stuff this last weekend. And I still think, if I'm not mistaken, is the boys and girls basketball coming up? >> Yeah, we actually have >> we actually have the regional game tonight and then the following week is the boys regional at
the high school >> and it's we're hosting it. >> Yes. >> Next next weekend. >> Yep. This week uh well this week and then next week I believe the regional championship of the Fridays of both week. >> So if anybody has any time in the public come and see some good games. So, we actually have a game going on tonight here. >> Yes, sir. >> What time? >> Uh, I believe 6:00 and 7:30. Um, I believe we play Southland Prep tonight. >> Okay. All right. Let's move this. >> It It's good. I mean, I think we had a couple wrestlers really, really well. Um, did very well. >> Yeah, we actually had two go to state. One was uh two of them qualify for state and one of them won sectional. >> Yeah. Well, he
was sectional champ. The other one was third, I think. >> Yep. Y very good. >> Yeah. And I think um if I read right, I know uh Showquire had a competition. They did very well. >> Yeah. I actually started working on the FYI today and I put that in there for this week. So >> yeah. So between sports and and uh like basketball is doing well. So all the way around, I think our students and our coaches are doing great. >> That's awesome. >> Dr. Kong, that's good news. Before we get to the good news, >> great. Great. >> Good question. Um, is that I saw that something about the eighth grade open house. >> Yeah. >> Was that in your Okay, I'll let you >> Oh, I have nothing to say other than it
was fantastic. Uh, lots of really good feedback. Um, >> is that part of your good news? >> Well, those are all good news. I didn't even think about those, but yes, >> great. >> Anytime the students can get in front of other students, the the response is incredible. So, and I have seen it. We've done a few things before. When the high school students get in front of the junior high students, if an adult or teacher, an administrator or coach, someone gets in there, they're an adult. But if a student gets up in front of there, >> they pay attention so much more. So that eighth grade I heard was very good. >> Well, speaking of that, Bill, I know that's old business. Maybe we talk about students listen to other students. We were looking
to have a student repres be representative on here. So >> just backpocket and >> hopefully next committee as a whole you can kind of give us a little I think it's you and Alex on that one. >> Yep. >> Okay. If you can bring the board any progress you made on that endeavor endeavor. We greatly appreciate it. Okay. >> Well, shout out to the social media team. I get a lot of my updates by watching that social media page and so >> um >> kudos to whoever that is that's managing that. >> That's that's Kala Ka Ericson. Yeah. She we really do uh do our best to push things out because as you know people will watch the little short videos and they're fun. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So you are unofficially our liaison for
watching that social media program and reporting it back to the board. Thank you sophomore. That is definitely the way that it's being communicated in society. >> Absolutely. >> And telling our story and showing all the great stuff. I mean, even we saw >> um I saw something back on our uh the health and wellness fair. So, you've seen that that's on there. That's very important to get out there to the public how we, you know, how we're taking care of our staff. You know, that's really important to >> broadcast that out so everybody can see what's going on. >> Excellent. Let's keep it going. Okay. All right. Uh Dr. Kaganise, administrative updates number A alpha. Usually if there's a A, there's a B. >> Okay. I'm just throwing that out there. You have >> um
aside from the things that were already mentioned, I would just wanted to share um this last Friday was our district-wide school improvement day and uh Dr. Perkins and her team did an outstanding job. We provided training for every employee group for that day. Sometimes we don't have something for everybody. We a managed to have something for every single employee. So we started off with a speaker who was outstanding um basically talking about our professional learning communities but really focusing on culture and as you know that's really important um about establishing a culture but holding everybody accountable for creating a positive culture and uh I think just heard lots of really good feedback from everybody. He had some books out. He did a book signing, but as we went out um and Pam and her team,
they did a great job with salads and feeding everybody and they had everything scheduled. So, it was just this constant um flurry of activity. I went to as many as I could um to see them for everybody. And uh it was really good just seeing everybody getting something for themselves um to help them grow because what we're really trying to do in our district is um provide growth. no matter what job you have here, we're trying to grow you in the best way that we can and value your time and help you be the best that you can in your job and even giving opportunities to, you know, find cross over and try some other jobs within the district, especially with our non-certified staff. Um, so anyway, it was a really successful day. So, you
did a really good job, Dr. Perkins and your team. Uh, everybody participated in that. So, thank you. And of course, we all got to see Dr. Eric. He's wearing this sparkly suit all the time. So, he always uh debuts his sparkliness and uh he's always fun to watch uh talking to our staff. So, anyway, it was a great day on Friday. >> Wow. >> I think those days are extremely important for our staff. Um especially I I know we came out of break, but a month out, you know, the kids are different. No doubt about it, right? Coming out of summer break, they're different. going into winter break and then coming out. It's still a good break up for the staff to have that kind of an improvement day. >> I agree. Senator >> and
you'll see you'll see a video. We had our videographer there again that day and of course we've got testimonials. We will put that together and show that case to you and then we put it out on social media because we want our community members to know what we're actually do here when we close the doors, you know, when their kids are home. What are they working on? So, >> and I know they they talked about the the calendar, right? But that is important for the staff >> to do those kind of days. >> It is >> which keeps them where they need to be. You know, it's kind of like mental health. It's, hey, come in, listen to a speaker, let's talk about something, but it gives them I mean, I think it's a good
opportunity to break up, you know, as the year goes through. >> Yeah. And some of my uh my administrators came up and said, "Oh, this fed my leadership soul today." And so, you know, those are all good stories to hear people come up. So, anyway, it was a it was a great day, but again, as you can see, we have to do them frequently. You can't just do one at the beginning of the year and say, "See at the end." It's all this constant, you know, you know, getting people up and motivated. So, when they go back, they came back um on Tuesday that um well, today um you know, they were re-energized. So, >> and again, it's like that because I think 20 years ago, teaching is different than it is. >> Oh, it
sure is. Our teachers work so hard. >> Yes, they do. So having these types of moments and days or half days or whatever it is is really important. >> Yeah. >> Rewards. Thank you for that. >> Rewards. Re rewards. >> Yes. >> A way of rewarding. >> If I if I may. Are you finished? >> I am. >> Okay. I think this kind of fit in. But >> I I've seen little tidbits of acknowledging Black History Month >> throughout the district. And I read a great article that you did a couple years ago. I thought it was thought it was recent, but can you share a little bit, you or Dr. Perkins share a little bit about what how we acknowledge as a district for the most part? I saw some verbiage on the marquees,
a couple couple other schools, so I don't think we have another time to talk about it. Just briefly. >> So you So you asked me to tell what we do. Yeah, just kind of what we show that one to you >> as a district or whatever whatever you know if you can just share >> for the whole month we work on activities at each of the buildings. >> Yes. So for the entire month and I will put this in the FYI for the board but each school besides just putting it on their marquee and in their newsletters to families um they have a monthlong of events. Um, for instance, there are wax museums at two of the elementary schools. Um, at uh ELC they have a month-long list of plans that they work on. So,
every day something is going on. Um, I know at the middle school they buy um t-shirts and have um again assemblies and things going on. So, it just depends on what school you're at. Um, there's something going on at every school and there's still plenty of time left. So, I will share that event calendar. I have it here. I'll share that event calendar with you in the FYI this week. >> And I think if I'm mistaken, next week they should have a Black History Month um concert. They've done that in the past. >> Um, at the high school they have um, hold on. It is an assembly that they put on before it's been run by I want to say either our kids from show choir or student council get together and they do a
full uh an assembly at each period. >> Yeah, there was and I know the concert night for the parents there was a collaboration collaboration of all >> sorts of um jazz band and and the band and show like all of it. >> Yes. inquire. They were all included in it. And I think, if I'm not mistaken, it was either last year or the year before, they had um I'm not familiar with it, but they had I think um college, not fraternities, but they had um all the the sororities. They did stepping >> from all the Black History uh sorities, but >> fraternities. Yeah. They came out and did their stepping. >> Dr. Hall would know it because we talked about it. >> Divine Nine. Yeah. >> Yes. That's good. >> Yeah. So, they had an
entire >> uh thing. That was fantastic. >> Yes. That was one segment. So, I will point out, you know, those certain dates in the FYI, but they're all listed for you to take a look at. And if you're free any day or evening, just kind of check it off. So, I'll I'll put um instead of just showing like um the full month, I'll just kind of highlight a few at each building um depending on, you know, if you have day or nighttime available. >> Okay. And just taking a step further, not only Black History Month, if they have Polish American Month or whatever, Hispanic, whatever. Okay. So we can get an opportunity the board to participate in some manner >> and just show our presence and you know have the opportunity to do that. Okay.
>> Yes. So by law we have mandates from the state of what we must teach um no matter what your cultural background is. For instance even like women's history month is coming up next month. We have to have lessons and programs around that. So, I'll create like a separate section and the principles just kind of drop everything in and I'll just kind of highlight a couple of those for you, but you could know that you can always go to that large document. >> All right. So, I know you don't have this one, but if you want to create it, you could create it for men. Men is usually the last one to get anything. >> Okay. >> Father's Day, all the restaurants is open. >> And and you can go in there and stretch yourself
across seven chairs and tables. So, just kidding. >> Thank you, sir. >> Okay. Good job. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. >> And do those things get highlighted on our social media as well? >> If not, I'm sure you're going to make sure that you get it. >> Yeah. Push it up. >> Yeah. I will say Calla was just at um Talala on Thursday. I cannot remember what the activity that they were doing, but she goes to each building to make sure she has the res. >> Okay. So keep an eye on that for us. Okay. >> I sure will. >> All right. Thank you, Dr. Perkins and Dr. Cogley. Appreciate it. Next up on our agenda is the consent agenda approval. Is there any board member that would like to take anything out or
any verbage needs to be changed? Hearing none. Can I have a motion to approve the consent agenda as is >> moved? >> Second. >> Dr. Cognese. >> All right. Under item one, superintendent report is approve regular meeting minutes of January 20th, 2026. Item two, approve regular meeting close session minutes of January 20th, 2026. Item three, approve committee of the whole meeting minutes January 13, 2026. Item four, approve committee of the whole meeting close session minutes of January 13, 2026. 021staff employment resignation and that concludes our consent. >> Thank you Dr. Cognice. Any questions or comments? >> If none roll call, please madam secretary. >> Mr. Salesish. >> I. >> Miss manus. Hi. Miss Wolf >> I zit stumbber says an I. Mr. Gagos >> I. >> Mr. Brown >> I. Motion carried. Going on to number eight action report a alpha personnel and culture. Could I have a motion to approve the memorandum of agreement regarding the cremony education association retirement incentive? Move by Bill. >> Second. >> Who was second? Oh, yes. Second bylet questions or comments. >> Bill system when you have the question. Okay. Get clarity on that. All righty. Hearing no questions or comments. Roll call, please. Madam Secretary. >> Mr. Salish. >> I. >> Miss Venegas. >> I. >> Miss Wilfolk. I >>
zites stumbos >> I >> Mr. Brown. >> I motion carry. Uh lead us lead leads us to old business. Any old business hearing? None. Any new business? >> I've got a new business item. >> Okay. >> As long as no one else is gonna >> Come here, Dr. Cochley. This you have the floor. >> Okay. Um I was able to share I got this just today. Um, we had some, uh, legal information from one of our attorney groups that basically said there's been some legislative changes. So, we are not allowed to have any board meetings, I think, on March 17th. >> So, that means we need to change our board meetings. So, I wanted to make sure that I'm suggesting maybe just doing it the Wednesday. >> Is that the election day? >> It's for
primaries. >> That's the That's the primary. >> They're having a primary on St. Patrick's Day. >> Go figure. and we can't have a board meeting. >> Yeah. So anyway, I'm just suggesting the Wednesday instead. So just take a look at your calendars because we'll need to make sure that we send that out to the public so they're aware that >> I'm not available. I don't know how many other people >> What days What day is she? The next >> Wednesday she's out. So, you know, I want to make sure that we have a corn. So we do want to look at Monday the 16th. >> Yeah. >> Is that spring break? No. >> No. No. spring break. So, we got >> The following week, >> not the following week. The following uh >> that Monday,
>> the 27th is that Friday, I think, the last day that everybody's here. >> When is the National School Board? >> That's in um March 12th through the 15th. >> Oh, it's before that. Okay. >> Right. >> So, that's Monday will be the day after we get back. >> We have the 16th. We have th Thursday the 19th we could do. I can either do Monday or Wednesday. Thursday I'm out of town. I work evenings on Thursdays. >> Should we just send you >> I'm good Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday? >> Does Monday work for everybody? >> I can do Sunday at the church Sunday. >> Monday works for you. >> Monday works for me. >> Okay. All right. So, for right now, >> Monday the 16th. >> The 16th. Yeah. >> So, we will get
board packet out then. Um, >> not Sunday, huh? >> No. Do we have to do any anything? >> We just >> because we're moving the date. So, because well, because we're doing a month in advance, we're just going to post it, right? >> And it wasn't we didn't have a chance to react on that because the law just came out, I believe, the beginning of the year, right? That's what I saw. >> Yeah. And it just came through on my feet to just today. So, all right. We'll make the adjustments uh for next month. Thank you for that. >> I apologize for my tight schedule. >> That's okay. You know, >> it's better just land it and get it done and set right now. Okay, that was old business. >> That was new business. Any
other new business? >> I think executive secretary Cheryl as a new business. It was kind of You put it out about a week or so ago from our same attorney that put it out. He put it out or their firm put it out about one school district lost their fight against I think it was a >> tiff. >> They challenged a tiff and they lost and they kind of gave some reasons why they lost. They they they really didn't have enough meat in their defense. Well, not defense. I guess they they're not the defenders, but in in their case, they didn't have enough ammunition to justify that that tiff that tiff wasn't warranted. So, I just gave a heads up. >> Extended it. >> H >> So, they extended it. >> They extended it. Yeah.
So, they basically the school board I'm just paraphrasing the school board that was in question basically saying, "Hey, we don't approve that tiff." and didn't didn't have a good reason, you know, at least fight to say that that's really not a plighted area or something like that. They just didn't have enough meat there. And the judge say, "You know what? That's the reason why you lost. You didn't have enough." So, this heads up if it ever comes to us again about that. We just got to do due diligence and put as much as we could. Not that we'll probably ever be in that, but maybe we will. Okay. But thanks for sharing that, Cheryl. That was good. That was good reading. I read that on Sunday. All right. Any other new business? >> I have
two questions. Um, with the new Acme leadership changing, is there some form of a meet and greet that we can expect um to this board from them? >> That's something we can ask. We are waiting, I think, for our first meeting with them. >> Okay. So I think once we find out that meeting we can we can pose that question. Thank you for that. >> Yeah. I don't know how we do that as far as meeting and greeting and maybe come to the board to for the first meeting or no. >> Yeah. Okay. All right. No other new business. We do have a reason to go into close session. for the reason of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees. Can I have a motion to go into close sessions for
reasons read? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Questions, comments? If not, roll call. Madam Secretary. >> Mr. Swalish. >> Hi. Miss Wilfolk >> I >> Miss Venegas >> I zit stumbber says an I. Mr. Gagos >> I. >> Mr. Brown >> I. Motion carry. We're in close session and we should be in there no longer than about 15 minutes and we will not take any further action thereafter. So thank you public for joining us again on this day of February 17, 2026. Have a good evening. Thank
