001testing. Testing one too. All right. I'd like to call this meeting to order for Creek Lee School Board 2011U regular school board meeting. Today is Tuesday, September the 16th, 2025, 18:30. It's the time or 6:30 p.m. And I would like a roll call, please. >> Sure. Miss Wolf >> here. >> Miss Venegas. >> Mr. Salish >> here. >> Dr. Hall >> here. >> Zit Stumpus is here. Mr. Gyos >> here. >> Via phone. He's asked me not to announce via phone. Um and no just and then uh Mr. Brown >> here. Let us stand for the pledge of allegiance le led by our vice president Mr. Gigos and followed by our mission statement read by our board secretary Miss Jamie site numbers. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America >>

002and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Our mission statement is to engage and empower our students to positively impact their community and future. >> Thank you both. Appreciate it. Do we have any nonsubmitted public comments electrically electronically? Any public comments other than electric electronically? Okay, I have a few here. Going to have one read that's pretty lengthy by our board secretary. I will try to struggle through this these two given the font is not my useless 72 font, right? So, I'll struggle here. >> Okay, >> I can read it. >> I'll go ahead. I'll go ahead. I'll give it a try. Yes. Okay. We have one from a Mr. Puda. Good evening, Mr. Puda. In response to your public comments, alternate revenue

003bonds were secured with the additional revenues from TIFF 5 in University Park and TIF 3 in Moni. These funds will be used to complete the sports plex. This project is within budget. The total approved budget including contingencies is 21,46,460,25. The public notice was published in the Chicago Tribune. The board has discussed selling the remaining approval amount of $5 million. Yes, the public notice will be published in the Chicago Tribune. Thank you. Following up on another email, that email was sent on September, September 11, followed by a email that I'm getting ready to read dated September the 15th of this year. I had a great deal of TIFF related questions that just happened to be submitted to your meeting on the same day that happened to deal with TIFF financing. I contacted you after I did

004not see any of my comments posted on within the comments section of the school board meeting notes and was told there was a Google file transfer issue. I still do do not see any of my TIFF questions listed on the public site. I had several more finance questions than the simple answer that was supplied in this link. I firmly believe that using the alternative revenue bonds as additional sources of revenue to spend without public support is doing our community a disservice. I am going to send this link information to the state board for future review. John And just so you know, those were posted this morning. >> It was posted. Okay. Thank you. The next public comment was submitted by Christine Quinland. That's CMEA President. Good evening. Welcome back to the 2025 2026 school year.

005As of today, all staff have been back to work for 23 days and our students have been in attend attendance for 21 days. I would like to thank the board of education and the administrators for getting everything ready to return of staff and students. Homecoming 2025 is just around the corner. Christine Quinnland, CMEA president. Okay, if we could read that one. >> This public comment comes from Ashley Hastings. Good evening, Dr. Cogniz, members of the board and community. My name is Ashley Hastings and I am the parent of a student in the district. Before this school year began, I shared concerns about how the start of school is organized and communicated to families. Four weeks into the school year, I want to revisit those concerns with the benefit of hindsight. This year, supply drop off

006was reduced to a drive-thru style event. Parents and students could not enter the building to place supplies in classrooms or meet teachers. While this may have been efficient, it took away an important opportunity for students to feel comfortable in their classrooms, meet their teachers, and reduce first day anxieties. Curriculum night was not scheduled until three and a half weeks after school started, which meant families had to wait almost a month before learning key expectations, routines, and informations that would have been helpful from day one. We also welcomed a new principle this year. Leadership transitions are always a period of adjustment, and I want to acknowledge the work it takes to step into that role. But that transition made it even more important for families and staff to have a clear timely communication and opportunities connect

007to connect before the year began. Instead, busing information came at the very last minute, leaving families scrambling to make work and child care arrangements. Teachers only had a couple of days to prepare to prepare classrooms and connect with families before students arrived. and schedules were not aligned consistently across schools. As a result, the start of school felt unnecessarily stressful, not just for my family, but for many others. These are not small inconveniences. They impact how confident and prepared our students feel walking into school, how supported our teachers feel, and how smoothly our schools operate. I want to emphasize that I am not here to criticize individuals but to highlight opportunities for improvement. Other districts have addressed these challenges by providing teacher preparation time one to two weeks before schools begin. Hosting supply drop off and

008meet and greets inside the buildings before the first day of school. Releasing busing schedules and teachers assignments earlier and consistently across the district. holding curriculum night in the first week, not nearly a month later. These are practical adjustments that would allow families, staff, and administrators to begin the year with clarity, confidence, and community. Both as a parent and a taxpayer, I want our district to operate efficiently and set students, teachers, and families up for success from day one. I believe we have the opportunity to make thoughtful changes that will benefit everyone in the will benefit everyone in the community. Thank you for your time, your service, and dedication to our students. Respectfully, Ashley Hastings. >> Thank you, Madam Secretary. Thank you those who submitted public comments. Do we have any board updates? Yeah, Friday night.

009That was a I I think I don't uh you know, prior to me being on the board, I was with the the boosters for nine or 10 years and uh we talked about it. We had a meeting and and whatnot. And I just never thought I'd ever see it. And I think I told you that as we're walking out on the field that you've been here longer than I have. And I said, "Mr. Brown, did you ever think you'd see something like this come to fruition?" >> I mean, it really truly is >> amazing. >> Wonderful for our coaches and our athletes, our community. I mean, it's it was pretty great. >> Yes. Yes. >> Well, I want to say something. I um I was talking thinking about when I fir the way I first

010uh came in contact with um advocating within Creek Monu. My oldest daughter is 32 and she was on the she was in sixth grade and she played softball for the junior high and after that sixth grade year they lost in regionals one to nothing. They had a really good team coming back and they cut the program. So I came and sat down with the H assistant super HR. Um nothing really came of it other than we have to do this. Um and then I remember going out to the track and I would take my kids out. We would work out and I would just think about um how bad the field was. And one day I said, um, you know what? I I literally stood out there and prayed and said that we're going to

011get these kids will get a better situation than what they have. And from day one on the board that I got on the board, you all everybody knows I said that that was going to be a major fight for me. And sometimes um not to be too religious, but when you pray for something, you kind of sometimes put it on the back burner. But I remember I just started thinking we got the junior high softball back. Um we have the new facilities. Our girls cuz I thought that that was bad that they had to travel so far that now they play right they're going to be able to play right here >> on campus. The boys get to come over even though it's not too far but they get to come over and play on

012campus. And people sometimes forget the importance of education. I mean of athletics and activities and education. Um I can I most men that I know that are in education most not all started off because they wanted to coach or because they played a sport or because they were a part of a club or they were in a band and they wanted to come back and be otherwise they didn't want to have anything to really do with education and then they start to move up. And I think that and I was talking to a friend. He talked about how in his mind the the athletic field, the um activities field, that's an extension of the classroom. I don't know how many people because they were in in an activity or sport did the best they can

013do in school just so they can be part of that. And I and so many people I hear people coming in with their with their uh messages about why did we have to do this when we could have did something else better with the money. There's always going to be something better we can do with the money, but we have to start to prioritize. >> But it but they go hand in hand. >> They go hand in hand. So whether it's sports or it's um a club or theater or the debate team or the math club, >> they're doing something together, >> but they it works hand in hand when they're together. >> It it just make the learning that much more fun. >> And so I I I'll wrap up with with this. Um

014two two things. Jason told a story of how he was out on the field and the kids asked him, "Can we I might you could you can corre correct it." Um maybe you could tell it and then I'll finish what I have to say. Can you tell what what what happened out there just how it >> um I was heading over there one afternoon. It was on a uh it was August 29th because it was week one. I had some things I had to check on before the end of the day and uh two students were uh walking back towards the high school and they said, "Excuse me, sir. You know, do you know anything about this project going on?" And I said, "Yeah, I know a little bit about it. How can I help

015you?" And they said, "You know, do you think we could see the field?" And uh I said, "Yeah, absolutely. Come on. Let's go get on there." And uh right when they entered the track at the north uh part of it, one kid said, "Oh, can I touch it?" And I was like, "Yeah, go ahead." and he got down in his hands and he's rubbing the the field and the turf and he said, "I think I might be the first one in the school to touch this, touch the brand new field." And this meant so much to me and uh proceeded to walk the kids around the track and give them a little bit more of a tour. And there were JB football players that were coming back to school to help out with the varsity.

016I said, you know, you guys should be proud of this. This is yours. Make sure you take care of it because this is a huge investment in in your students and the communities that the board of education made. So, it was a great experience. kind of brought tears to my eyes >> and people the comm sometimes people don't understand th those little things and I'll say this athletics everybody knows is important to me um all of my children play the sports but the one thing I could tell you that none of my kids um all my kids understood the academic how important academics were and they're all pretty successful my son came back yesterday he graduated from Creek Moni high school. He left and went to the Naval Academy. He's now officer in the Navy.

017Pretty well decorated, too. What much more than me? And I'm I'm looking at all his medals and everything. And and he because of what was what he learned here and from wrestling, he's doing he's doing a heck of a job. And I and I attribute that to not just athletics, but the community as as a whole. And I think that be but because of the athletic realm of it that kept him motivated to come to school to be part of the community otherwise he he might not have wanted to he got the reason he got the opportunity to go to the got looked at initially by West Point and a Naval Academy was because of the fact that he wrestled and he didn't wrestle for two years and then he stopped wrestling in college and

018he's doing great things now. So, I just I just thank the board for the support and for um pushing forward with it even with the pressures of what everybody the criticisms that come along with with making tough decisions and and thank the superintendent and her cabinet and and the community for um that. That's the I mean, I know it's a little lengthy, but that's what I had to say. >> And you weren't even there. I was visiting. I actually uh got to visit I was at a conference, but I actually got to see my son. So, had it not been for him coming to visit me or being and everything, then I probably would have cut it short. But I I had the conference, but I it had to be that important to me to

019miss that because that that meant a lot to me. >> Well, it was wonderful. >> I'll be that Friday. He keeps rubbing it in. Nelson called me or text me. Hey, >> we have a little treat for you and everybody here tonight. >> We're doing the ribbon cutting over. >> Does anybody have any other comments? Otherwise, I'm gonna roll it. >> Otherwise, I'm going to roll something. >> Well, again, any comments? >> Okay. No, I echo what you guys said. Again, everything we do should go down the path of our mission statement. Whatever we do, that's what we are in business for. So, regardless of what it is, this is what we should do. So, that was an exciting game. I mean, it I wish the Bears can play like our team. I mean, we

020had the whole nine yards. We had the stadium was full. The score was awesome. fans, the music, the band. I saw somebody out there playing a trombone. I wonder whose son that was there. >> So, and I think Bill and I we shut the place down and we the last ones out. >> Yes. And we got a chance to talk to the coach at the end, Coach Ki. It was it was awesome. It was an awesome time. I told my kids about it. They they hated they missed it. So hopefully they'll be at the homecoming and they'll see because again I can tell a story too about track and my daughters and son being the football quarterback for the for the team at one point. So excellent. But you know I'm I was just so

021thrilled to death on how that turned out. >> If you watch halftime, did you watch >> the band move like we're a college team? It was great. Yes. >> How they moved on the field with the And they I think they played what three songs >> They did. would have been in school 20 what what they say 20 uh the CMEA presence they 23 days >> 23 yes 23 days >> and they moved >> they do work over the summer though so I don't want to I I mean you have I want to give them credit for all the work that they put in over the summer like an athletic team just to make sure that >> and they're prepped and ready to go they look great and >> I think it was someone I

022think told Dr. Karen and I I'm not going to mention the name, but they were told very prominent figure within our district. They were told that we have the best complex. >> That's right. >> That they have seen. And these are people that sees and participate in one shape, form or another on football fields. They said creep, I'm paraphrasing, knocked it out the box. So, good job. And I hope you guys are doing Dr. Kerry, your team, some type of what went well, >> a debrief. Yes. >> And debrief. >> Yes. All our departments are >> okay. I did have, you know, I I kind of had a got a tongue lashing out there by a constituent. And it's was regarding it parking. >> I took care of that. >> You took care of that?

023>> I did. >> Yeah. I wish you would have told me. at me and prepare me because um >> this person gave me a mouthful. >> I spoke with her this >> we took care of it. >> Just the opportunities for handicap parking or people that have some challenges to go from point A to point B and I will give up my parking spot of whatever next time around for those people to have more accessibility to the football stadium. I'm not going to tell you guys how to do it, but I think the board all is in favor about giving those who are not physically able to get from point A to point B a better opportunity to get from point A to point B. Okay. Handicap spots or something. I don't know. We have

024a plan already. You got a plan? >> Yes, I did contact that individual to share the plan. >> Yeah, she had some rapid fire towards me. Okay. But I absorbed it. Went through two bulletproof S's. Okay. Any no other board update when we get back to you or you got something to share on this? >> Yes. Um administrative updates. >> It was in the same vein as this the stadium and the ribbon cutting. So um Don, if you could roll it. You're going to see it first. Not the parent square. You can turn it up real You can turn it up real loud. >> And I And And again, the staff was was on point. They were efficient. Welloiled machine out there. That was awesome. >> Wish you could turn the lights on a little

025bit. >> Can you turn a light down just a little bit for this because it's kind of hard to see. It is with great pride and excitement that we welcome you to the very first game of our brand new Warriors Stadium. [Music] This incredible moment would not be possible without the unwavering support of the free money school community that stands behind our students every step of the way. Let's go Warriors. [Applause] [Music] Heat up [Music] here. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] There you have it. That's going to be released on social media tomorrow. >> It was today. Let's do that. >> Yeah. Wasn't that fun? >> It was released today. >> No. >> Was it? >> She didn't waste any time. >> She blew my thunder today. Sorry. >> No, she did not. Cuz

026I didn't hear the sound. >> Okay. There you go. >> So, Dr. How do you feel like you were there? >> I feel like I was not there. >> But, and that was wonderful. No, really that I I love I shared it. Um, so more people than you know saw it already, but it it really was good. I I loved it. >> So, we've got a game this Friday, so whoever can come. Um, >> home game. >> And it is a home game this Friday. And we are playing >> TWWHS. Yes, sir. And then I think the week after that will be October 3rd. That's our homecoming. So that's the one >> October 3rd, Friday. So we will again have open up the press box again for any dignitaries, any board members um to come

027again and enjoy it. We're going to probably section off a little bit of the uh um the stand area because I noticed we didn't have enough space for everybody. So I'm going to section off a little space there where people can sit. So >> you all did a great >> Who do we play? Homecoming. >> Thornwood High School. TWWHS >> for homecoming. >> Oh, for homecoming homecoming. >> Didn't we play the first game? >> No, you just played Thornton. >> Thorn. It's all these T's. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Thornwood. >> Thorn. No, you don't play Thornwood for homecoming. You play Thornwood next game, I think. >> Thorn Ridge for homecoming. >> And we just played Thornton, right? >> Thorn Ridge. You just play Thornton. >> Okay. >> So, Thornton we just played. We play

028Thornwood Friday and then for homecoming Thorn Ridge. >> Thorn fractional sauce. >> That's not That's a different district. That's a different Friday. >> Yeah. TS. >> Okay. But who do we play Friday? >> Thorn. This Friday is Stormwood. Last Friday was Thornton. Homecoming in Thorn Ridge. >> Lot of Thornton's going on. >> Thornton Township School District 205. >> Just like to add about the lights. The lights that freaked me out. I thought we was having a reliability electrical issue. I'm like, "Oh no, not here. The lights would dim." And I'm like, "Oh no." But that was part of the act. Great job. Great job. >> Yeah. And our booth did a fabulous job serving up all of our all of our our fans and then we had the food trucks out there as well. >>

029The lines was wrapped around. >> It was just a really good collective effort from everybody. >> So those shirts that I saw people were hauling them up, were they for sale or >> they had given them out for free. >> But um >> you didn't get one. >> No. >> Wasn't student government giving out the first 200 students? I think they were I think it was something like that. >> Yeah, we've got more. We've got more coming. So anyway, um so as far as anybody in the community that's watching, uh very shortly we and some of our local vendors or stores, we will have spirit well for sale out there. So um people can get that. And uh we had a homecoming committee meeting today as our last meeting prior to the uh the big

030event. And we had everybody within the community that was participating on this. and we are we are ready to go. >> Okay, >> so more good news. Um I wanted to really highlight a specific individual that we've not I don't think had come up before and that is Mr. Eric Green. I want to talk a little bit about Mr. Green and then Dr. Eric's going to say a few things about Mr. Green. So I don't know if you know but Mr. Green has a huge heart for our kids and all the kids love him at the building and attendance in truency is very dear to him as he wants our kids back in school. He hears their stories. So this summer he came to me and he said, "You know what? I've got this great

031idea about doing something with student matters and he had this whole proposal for me to take a look at and it was fabulous." And it also correlated to one of our strategic plans for this year is really trying to increase student attendance because we all know you have to be here in order to learn and that affects achievement. So it all goes hand in hand. So he has worked uh very hard at the buildings and working out at our principles to help make some of these things happen. So um Dr. Eric, I'm going to have you pick this up from here before we uh think publicly Mr. Green. >> Absolutely. So, kind of what uh kicked this off, not just to highlight Eric's work, but staff recognition is something that we preach. We have our

032our platform where staff can shout out each other for the great work that they're doing. And Eric received a shout out, and I'm like, you know, this is great news to share with you, the board, and the community. and it was another staff member that works at the high school said to about Eric that they truly appreciate his commitment to making a meaningful difference for our students and ensuring that they have the support they need to succeed in and outside of school. So with that, Eric, as Dr. Cogni said, started the attendance matters campaign this year. Um, and the purpose of that is to improve student attendance by engaging various stakeholders. um across the villages that our district serves and he's put together a team of students that is going to be traveling to different

033all to all of our schools to talk about the importance of school attendance. The motto of the student attendance committee is be seen, be heard, and be here. So, I'm going to turn it over to Mr. Green to kind of come up and talk about the attendance matters campaign and the student attendance committees. Good evening. like I was I believe for the opportunity um yes so when I spoke with um Dr. in the spring. You know, I was just trying to think of ways to motivate students to get in school. Um, and just wanted to let the kids know that attendance matters everywhere. It's appropriate in every area in our lives, but it starts in the it start with school first, you know what I mean? So um with the student attendance committee um I

034oversee that department and it's a group of students where we mentor students who have attendance problems. You know we don't just judge them and and point the finger at them but we let we we hear them and we see things from their perspective and we identify those risk factors and then we put things in place to compl mean to to counter those factors. You know what I mean? So um it's a the attendance matters campaign is a communitydriven initiative where we partner with villages around the district that we serve. Um, Mayor Bogs from Monise, he's very supportive. Um, also, uh, Kevin Battles with University Park. I'm in the process of meeting with him as well and we're going to implement incentives to motivate students to get in the classroom consistently, you know. So, um, we

035taking the show on a road. We going and we doing a a in district tour. So, we going to all the schools, um, presentations, u trivia, games, prizes, and things like that. And it's ran by the student attendance committee. you know, um, students tend to receive information well when they hear it from their peers, you know. So, um, I also brought, um, Terrell Henderson. He's al he's the vice president of the student attendance committee, and I want him to speak to you all as well, just to give you guys more details about the tour. Um, and Carly Sale, she's also the president. Um, she couldn't make it tonight, but, um, they've been working very hard with me, just supporting and being the backbone of the group putting things together to implement this tour. So, I

036appreciate the opportunity. >> I have one quick question. How many times did they vote you as um employee of the year? What was that? >> Staffman of the year. >> Staff member of the year. >> Nine years of the role. >> They had to change the rules. >> They actually did. >> But I appreciate. >> All right, guys. Yeah. So, um, like I said before, um, we are going on tour and it's going to be amazing. And we would like to go by be seen, be heard, and be here. Um, let me tell you guys a quick little story. All the way back when, um, like last year in spring when Green said that he was thinking about doing a campaign. Um, and he told me about it. I said, "I think it'd be a

037great idea and let's do it." and myself and Carly Swallish, the president. Um, we both met together with Green over the summer and we were all sitting there thinking and we were like, why don't we do this in the elementary schools and we all sat there and right in that room. We planned everything. We wrote the dates on the board. It's still in his office on the board to this day. Um, and we just start going from there and it's been amazing ever since then. And we're so excited. Our first date is tomorrow. So, or no, not tomorrow, but Thursday. Our first date is Thursday. So, we're really excited. We've been practicing and it's going to be amazing. And Green has went out his way to even teach us everything about attendance and so on

038and so forth. So, we're really excited to go on tour and yeah, thank you. >> What's your question? >> Do you mind reintroducing yourself and saying your grade? >> My name is Terrell and I'm currently a junior in high school. >> Nice to meet you. >> Terrell Henderson. Okay. >> It's nice to meet all of you. Thank you. >> I also wanted to add one more one more highlight. Um on September 2nd um every staff member in the district um we wore the attendance matters t-shirts that you guys have in front of you and it was kind of like just a family tightknit united front just welcoming our students and just letting them know that we value their presence and we here for them. So um everyone in the in the district participated and we

039have um pictures all over the website and over our socials as well. >> All right. >> Excellent. Excellent. >> So again, Eric's role is truency officer. That is his job title. So instead of just being the reactive personnel of our district for students that do have the attendance issues, he's taken the proactive approach to keep kids off of his case load. So it's it's it's a self-fulfilling position. It's, you know, I'm going to do this proactive work so the kids don't come to me later on when they do have the attendance issues. then we have to refer them to the roe. So, Eric, thank you for your proactive work and can't wait to see what the uh campaign and um brings us this year. So, thank you again. >> Yes. >> Oh, questions. >> Any

040questions? >> Um I'm curious, um in previous years, have we had a truency problem? in our is there like a goal that we're looking for with what what is a goal for truency? I don't I don't know. Can you help me understand that? >> Yes, ma'am. Um the goal is of course to get kids in um in school consistently. Um >> and honestly, truency is is not just a cream issue, but it's, you know, it's >> it's universal, okay? You know what I mean? Um >> especially with um our postcoavid babies, you know what I mean? um just you know everything was remote so now we just putting things in place to like letting kids know like there's okay to actually be around one another again and kids actually have a lot of anxiety even

041with being around one another you know I did security for 11 years and when we were clearing the hallways I would often see students that would avoid class just because their anxiety levels would be through the roof so it would be kids that would rather skip a class than those few minutes of being humiliated it unintentionally if the learning process have to stop if I come in class with a tardy pass. >> Oh wow. >> You know so a kid would either they would rather either take a cut than you know than to be tardy because it's really that difficult. You know what I mean? So um so we want to see things from their perspective and just really letting the kids know that we hear you. Um identifying those real reasons why those students

042are not coming to school and then implement things to kind of motivate them to get in school. So, even down to doing the lunch moss and playing music in the cafeteria, um, putting on events that motivate the students to come to school, when you feel invited to come anywhere you're going to show up. >> Okay, here's my last question. >> Yes, ma'am. >> When you think about the role that the board of education plays, what what would the support from the board look like to make sure your program and your campaign is successful? Um actually this right here um just actually getting the information out um and the the villages that our district serve you know just the collaboration and partnership. Um I'm really grateful to the Saleis family with uh with Carly. She worked

043effortlessly just supporting and um even she brought candy today um for the tour, you know what I mean? Just donating and just the support. So um um Mr. Brown always supported me even when I was security officer. Mr. of all everyone that's on the board always being grateful and so forth. So I what what's happening now is what's necessary. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I was going to say when you say it's universal, it really is. Um that's I have a meeting Friday. In fact, I was going to seriously ask you, can you email me your information just so I can look at it and see if if we can use even start the program where I work. So >> absolutely. >> Thank you. Well, I I just want to say again, it's hard for me

044not to call you officer Green. Uh you've always been one that our students would gravitate to. You had a a certain I I guess your strength of just handling deescalating issues and things of that nature. So, you always have a special place in my heart and it didn't surprise me to hear Dr. Hall ask you the question, how long have you been or how many times have you been nominated employee of the year? I thought it would be more than that, right? >> We had a few, you know, co years. >> Oh, there you go. But what I think too is, and it has a lot to do with your personality. Uh, someone asked me the question a couple a couple weeks ago at Mooney Fall Fest when we marched in the parade and they

045saw me out there. They said, "Mr. Brown, why don't you update your picture that was seen in our newsletter?" They said, "It's really old." I said, "It's only two years old." They thought it was like 12 years old. So, the difference between you and I is you haven't aged a bit. Not one bit. Not one bit. So, keep doing what you're doing. Yes, sir. >> And the young man, I'm going to call you Mr. Henderson, right? Because you are a future leader >> as you go out, you graduate. You're leader right now in in the respect in the position that you are in. And you got up to that bike. I saw great qualities in you and what you're doing right now. We need you. Keep doing what you're doing. And that is that mom

046right there. No, that's my wife. That's Mrs. Green. >> Oh my sister. >> All right. Well, keep doing I said enough. Keep doing what you guys doing. You need any support, my colleagues asked, what is our role here? We're here to support you. Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> Excellent job. >> Yes, sir. >> What was the um the purpose like what was the reasoning behind doing it? And I will also say like when we were planning this as well too, the main important goal is that not a lot of people know facts about attendance or the things that they should know about attendance and the whole goal is is that hopefully this goes on for the year on after that and the year on after that and that when they get to high school that

047they can know these facts off the top of their head like there's fun facts like you get what I'm saying like what color is the sky the sky is blue and the same type of vibe of that and that's why we hope to keep on continuing it if that makes sense and for them to know those facts >> is tardy part of truencies tardies are not okay. It's missing. >> Okay. >> Correct me if I'm wrong, you guys went and met the mayors throughout the summer and had those discussions, right? >> Yes. With mayor mayor of hospital. >> Yeah. So on on their summer break, that's when they were doing some of the work, which was great. >> Yes, sir. >> Yeah. >> I hope he was getting paid for it. >> I'll leave that

048alone. Thank you so much for being here. Appreciate it. >> Thank you. Thank you guys. >> Okay, I've got one other item on here um underneath my report and that is Dr. Perkins is going to be coming up. Um we wanted to share something we're very excited about. As you know, communication is always something that has to be worked on. How do we do it better? Uh how do we do it more efficiently? And so we have discovered something called parent square which is going to open up a lot of uh more avenues to communicate back and forth with our families. So I've asked Dr. Perkins to share that with you and then we also have a campaign to share with the broader community our families on how to use this. So Dr. Perkins would

049you like to continue? >> Yes thank you. Good evening to the board Dr. Koganise to our families students at home. Um we are going to talk about parents square. It is our platform as Dr. Kogan was saying um of how we are going to communicate as a whole and so what parent square offers is a unified communication platform and it has a lot of features. We won't roll out all features um at the very beginning uh but we'll do it in phases. Uh but it allows us to do our smart and urgent alerts. Um we use something before like school messenger. So you'll receive families staff. Uh the board will receive urgent alerts. Um some of our schools have already started using them uh for weekly communications. Uh it gives auto notices. Um it's secure

050delivery of the information. Um our attendance calls will be um or are going out through parents square. Uh our buildings and uh the district gets to post our newsletters. Uh we use our social media platform. And so it gives us one place to do all of our uh communication and streamline it through one system. Uh one of the most important pieces uh is that it also translates to our families in their language in real time. Uh and so that was very important to uh put in a piece that was uh giving translation to our families for the many languages uh that they speak. Uh again those conversations are secure and then we can have again that report and analytics uh that goes through. Moving forward we will be able to do things like uh permission

051slips. Uh there are even opportunities to collect signatures, invoices, pay bills, um and many more features, but right now we're you looking at that kind of top tier, top two tiers of what we will be using it for. And so the benefits again, uh it uh translates for us in the 150 languages. Uh and it's one application. So, if you have students at three different schools, you've got an elementary student, you've got a middle school student, and um you've got a high school student, and you're just trying to um navigate all the different websites and all the three different principles. This will put it on a parent's device in one place and all of that messaging will come uh to that parent there. Uh, it gives us quick data that we can look at, quick

052data that the buildings can look at to see how many calls went out, how many parents answered, how many went to voicemail, how many um were opened in their electronic devices. And when we get to phase two, it allows the parents to uh communicate back to us. So, it gives us that two-way communication. We can also set up groups. And so, you know, one of our uh important groups that we work with would be like our alumni groups or uh different our ROE. It allows us to set up grouping communication that are specific target uh to that group. So far, uh we've been putting this information in the FYI for a couple of months. Uh and it has been on the website under the dropdown under parents and there is a a toggle for parent

053square. Uh our administrators were trained on August 22nd. They have another overview. Many of them have started using it. Uh teachers have not had uh formal training. Uh but I received a report today that said that they're already using it. It's very seamless. Uh secretaries will have and office staff will have training tomorrow. uh and then we'll roll out more training for the second phase in uh February and then uh be and work with our parents. All of this will launch on August 22nd. Uh one of the things that parent square does is to um it combines a lot of the systems that we have been using. So we use a different system for flyers like Peach Jar, a different uh system for uh alerts which was school messenger. when teachers are sending uh information

054home to um their families, they're using Remind and Class dojo. So, this one platform will encompass all of the things that we were either some of them we were using for free and some of them we were paying for, but this puts everything under one umbrella. And so again, that rollout phase, everything will launch on uh September 22nd. Uh again, you parents may not notice anything differently as they're receiving their uh weekly phone calls from principles, but those are now coming through through parent square as they get their attendance alerts for your child was absent today. Again, those calls are coming through uh parent square. Uh, I do want to uh personally thank our IT team with Holly and Lauren who have been working um countless hours on making sure that this uh is coming

055to fruition. Uh as well as Kala who has done a lot of work with researching and working with the team to make sure this platform meets our needs. Uh again, alerts, notification, attendance calls. next week uh we will be able to uh put in bus routes and so uh if one bus is running late we can say you know again B16 is running 20 minutes late and we don't have to it's like one click and we're done. Our calendars are there and it translates in whatever language that parent wants. Uh which really is a isby requirement that we be able to communicate to our families in whatever language they speak. Externally, we've uh to use Parent Square for uh the community newsletter. It's been on the website since this summer. Uh emails are coming through.

056Families may not notice anything different. Um but this is the platform that we're using. Uh Kala has been putting things out on our social media page and so we will launch a campaign for families to download the app. Some of the schools have already started it. Connecting families, building communities. Uh we'll launch in October and uh we will get all of our families the information that they need. Again, internally staff is being trained, principles are being trained, secretaries are being trained and it is a platform for us to send that information out. Our second phase is the um all communication and teachers sending direct messages from their class. So things like class dojo or remind um they are uh parentsware is making some changes to their system um for their rewards part to that. So

057we're waiting for that to roll that out with the teachers. But like I said uh there are teachers that are currently using it without any formal training. and then it direct messages our parents and guardians. It is on the website already. this presentation, excuse me, uh will also be on the website, but on uh the website, if you hit parents and uh drop down to uh parent resources, there's a QR code for parents to load it there. And any messages that their buildings are sending out or the district um is sending out will go directly to their devices and phones. We can use it for uh setting up uh uh our um parent teacher conferences. We can use it for that and again send out group messages to small groups or to large groups at

058whole. Any questions? >> A lot of information. >> I have a question. >> Yes. I have um as a parent I get notifications to join Google Classroom for some classes. Will this replace that? >> No, that is a sep that is a separate system. So Google Classroom allows you to go in and look at um your student assignments. >> Um but that this will not replace that. >> Okay? >> So consider this more like a digital newsletter. Consider like when you get Mr. Holly Phil's phone calls every Sunday. They are now being generated through um parent square and I hear that it is very user friendly from our principles that have started using it but everyone starting next Monday the 22nd will be using it. >> Additional questions? >> I I I think >> this

059Oh, go ahead. >> I'm sorry. Is this >> is this going to be taking the place of Skyward? No, Skyward is our um management system. It our um emails are generated through Skyward. So the two connect but it will not replace that. This is a communication system where Skyward consider that our database that houses all of our family information there. So, you can't communicate through Skyward. >> Um, I'm not sure I understand your question, Mr. Goos. If you wanted to, you mean if you wanted to send a message? >> Yes. >> Yeah. Really? >> Yeah. Skyward just houses all our information. It's um, so you cannot really communicate to it. >> Okay. Just wondering. Okay. I just see this as a great tool and anytime we have an opportunity to better communi communicate throughout the

060district, we take advantage of that innovation such as we're doing now. So where do we get the idea from? If I if he said it and I missed it, I apologize. Other districts are using this innovation. >> Yes. And so we benchmarked with them and they had pretty good success with it so far. We are in the infancy of this ourselves. So we still yet to know how effective it is, but as other districts you utilize this innovation. Yes, we do have um a lot of our staff have um their children are in other districts and use it and they have raved about um the success and the ease of it as a parent. And so those same staff members are now becoming users of it and generating those posts. And again, those principles and

061building leaders and staff members have said that it is very user friendly. Um, and it really answers that it can give our families that translation piece, which is what we were missing, and being able to give them real time translations in their own languages. Uh, we will also be able to analyze and generate those reports on how well it is working for us. >> Would you consider this a pilot? >> This is this is firmed for us to be used. >> This is not a pilot. We are in full implementation on Monday. >> Excellent. Okay, great. Waiting to hear some. >> And is there a cost associated with this? >> Oh yes sir. Yes. This one is not free. Um but like I said it does replace and eventually it will replace um a lot

062of those systems that we are either getting for free or that we have different uh contracts with. So um in you know the next years to come it will we will only need this one platform. >> So this is called parent script. >> Okay. Can we >> parent script? Go ahead Alex. I'm sorry. >> I'm sorry. Can we can we get a list of uh programs that this makes uh other program like the the programs that we pay for that now are obsolete because of this. Can we can we get a list of of those just so we can see like the savings that we get every year from them? >> Yes. So, we can do um a a rate on our return kind of a return on our investment and look at what those

063costs are. And yes, I can share uh the ones that are will immediately be replaced and then the ones that will be upcoming as we learn more about the program and implement it in its different phases. We can put that in this week's FYI. >> Okay. Perfect. >> Okay. One last question. Yes. So, make sure I understand and heard you clearly. You're saying that Mr. Holly is no longer going to send messages out on Sunday. >> He He will. >> Oh, he will. >> Through this vehicle >> through this. He had he has still been sending his messages out and and the external um families you don't know that it is now coming through this platform. >> Ah >> so it was a seamless switch over his calls still come through. Um his reporting is

064very different of what he sees. So that we have 1,400 students at the high school. How many I'm going to say maybe there are 1,200 families at the high school. he can see a report of who received what part of his message and how they received that message. >> Wow. That's >> so it gives it to you. Um it'll try to call you. It'll text you. Um and then it'll show the report of how those families received that information and the percentage or the number of students or families that did not receive that call at all. >> Wow. Wow. That in and of itself is great. >> Yes. Okay. Thank you. Thank you so much, uh, Dr. Perkins. >> And is that it for you? >> Yes. And now just consent. >> Okay. I would

065like before I get a motion, I would like to know if anyone would like to pull anything out of the consent agenda. If not, can I have a motion to approve the consent agenda as listed? >> Moved. Moved by Bill. >> Second by Alex. Do we have any questions or concerns? >> If not, I'm going to have you Dr. >> Start reading it. Okay. >> Cogniz read off all numbers. >> Uh 7 A one is approve regular meeting minutes of October August 12th, 2025. Item two, approve the close session meeting minutes of August 12th, 2025. Item three, approve revisions of press plus 119. Item four, approve addition of administrative procedures, exhibit 7, col 190. Um, administrative procedure 4, exhibit 1 and then 7 col 190. AP procedure 4 exhibit 2 and 7 col 190. Uh,

066administrative procedure 4 exhibit number three. Underneath business, item one, approve uh, board of education financial report. Item two, approve a payment of um 20,996,89 to Bear Construction for work at the middle school. Item three, approve a payment of um1,296,11521 to Burn and Jones Construction for work completed at the high school. Item four, approve a payment of $129,80.38 to Bear Construction for work completed at the middle school. Item five, approve a final payment of $51,2.3 to reconstruction for work completed at Belmoral. Item six, approve a payment of $104,712.77 to bear construction for work completed at the middle school. And item seven, approve payment of $880,8342 to bear construction for work completed at the high school. underneath personnel and culture. Item one is approve the personnel report which consists of approving the certified and staff employment resignation

067and educational support staff employment reassignment resignation and intent to retire. Item two, approve the 2025 EIS report. Underneath teaching and learning item D number one is approve the CMHS overnight journalism convention field trip. And that concludes the consent agenda. >> Thank you Dr. Cogley, I know Bill has some questions that he submitted to our superintendent and I think our superintendent did reply with those answers. >> That was for action number two and three. >> Yeah. So, we can get to that later. >> Okay. Great. Great. And I think I had a question last week regarding principle and interest and there was some clarity that I needed. I did receive that from our business director of business and I for I think I forwarded to each and every one of you. >> Yeah. >> His response

068as well. So, thank you for that. >> All right. No questions or concerns. Could I have a motion to approve? >> Oh, we already have. We need a roll call. We need a vote. All right. Thank you, Dr. >> Mr. Salish. Hi, >> Miss Venegas. I >> Miss Wolf. >> I Dr. Hall. >> I >> Zit Stumbress is an I >> Mr. Gagos. >> I >> Mr. Brown. >> I motion carry. Number eight, action report number eight, business number one. Can I have a motion to approve the 2025 2026 budget? Moved. Move by Bill. >> Second by >> Miss Wolf. Jane. Any questions or comments? If not, roll call, please. >> Madam Secretary. >> Yes. Dr. Hall. >> I. >> Miss Venegas. >> Hi. >> Mr. Salish. Hi >> Miss Wilfolk. >> Hi. >> Zit

069stumbles. An I Mr. Gagos. >> I >> Mr. Brown. >> I motion carry under number eight number alpha number two. Can I have a motion to award the project of the Cremoni Middle School renovation to bear construction in the amount of 4 million $54,535 via the TIPS Corporate Cooperative >> moved moved by Bill >> second by second by Jane. >> Yeah. Mhm. >> So, the only discussion I wanted to bring up about that is I was at a meeting. I didn't have my paperwork when I talked to Dr. Kagon this afternoon until I got home. But I wanted to make sure that uh Mr. Okzinsk's work was kind of highlighted here. So, him he invited me to a meeting on June 26th of 2025 with Bear Construction. And when I saw the number on here

070of $4 million, I'm like, that just didn't seem right. It seemed different. And it is. So when they came to the projected um the budget, our original budget is 5 point 5,72,54 and then in that meeting uh Bear was able um to come in at just about $5,56,456 which is about 16,000 in savings. Since that time, um, we've done obviously the the breakout classroom and we've done the con the demo work over at the middle school and then obviously they've looked at and in that meeting, Mr. Okinski asked them to, you know, look at their numbers and let's see where we can come in because they weren't 100% on the exterior and interior classroom numbers. Just so you guys know, those numbers, the total project now is coming in with a design fee of 350.

071the numbers coming in at 4.4 million. So Mr. Ozinski and his team did good and with Barrett Construction, they were able to help, you know, with the project they're doing for us, bring those numbers down. And when I saw that, I just wanted to make sure that we don't miss like we don't miss that. I want to make sure that the seven of us understand that that the project came in at one number and it is coming in lower which is good because you know we don't know what construction costs are. I'm in construction. I know Miss Vegas is and the number the numbers are it could be it could be 10% higher they could be 8% lower. So these numbers come in are very good and it's approximately 580 to 600,000 somewhere in there

072lower than what M. Gazinski put in his budget which is good. So I just wanted to I just didn't have the information. I knew we had the meeting tonight and then when I got home tonight I found my packet from that meeting and then when he sent this this is what I was hoping that all of us could see. Um because we just when they sent that out we just saw the 4 million but I want everybody to understand that of what went into that and that we are getting a good I think we're getting a good deal from Barrett Construction. They've actually sharpened their pencils. So, and they did um they're doing some of the work on the stadium and they're actually going to do the middle school. So, I'm pretty excited about that.

073>> Nice. >> That was pretty much my only deal. >> Good job. >> Thanks. >> Good job. I I do have a question. With these unknowns, with these numbers, when we enter a contract, don't we have a fixed amount that we agree upon? I know there's some contingencies here and there, right? You had 10% contingencies for design, 10% for others that you showed us last week. But when you enter a contract, you should know basically what you're getting, right? >> We're doing that now. >> Okay. >> That's what we're that's what we're that's what we're voting on. So, it's been it's been it's been tentative. It's been a budgetary. Um, the only work we approved as a board was the demo and the prep because once we started the stadium, we wanted to do a

074little work at the middle school, correctly if I'm wrong, we only thing we did was the demo of the auditorium. I don't whatever you if you call that an auditorium >> amphitheater, but we were they were still working in some of the design phases to make sure that everything and just to get the numbers where they're at. So that's exactly what we're awarding. And so we borrowed 30 we sold revenue bonds of 35 30 million 5 million at the go. Big portion of chunk of that was for the sports complex. X amount of million is for this middle school project. Mhm. >> So, is it fair to say that there's a possibility since we haven't solidified a contract that we could go over the money that we borrow? >> No. >> Because it's 4 million.

075This 4 million. This doesn't consist of the whole project, does it? >> No. We're talking We was talking about >> the only >> the whole pro the whole middle school project. >> Yeah. this the I look at it as kind of two separate projects. You have the renovations which was the additional classrooms, right? Seven additional classrooms, four small work rooms, and the two additional >> um teacher workspaces. Those are all included in the total price that Bill is talking about right now. >> Okay. >> The one variable that is out there is the to replace the rooftop units in the other part of the middle school. And on the presentation from last Tuesday, there's always been a line item for $2 million to replace those RTUs. >> I have yet to um see any firmed

076up pricing for that. They did walk the middle school um I believe on the 10th, Wednesday the 10th, um they walked through with Mr. uh McClean to get a better idea of what that would look like. And I did ask for, you know, a very itemized u proposal to look at the rooftops, whether we're going to do it in one phase this summer and in a second phase, the summer of 27. And once I have that detailed amount, I'll be sure to bring that back to the board of education or update that line item. But there is currently a $2 million placeholder in uh the short-term facility plan to address the rooftop units. So, >> yeah, it's in our capital outlay plan is kind of what I call it. >> Correct. >> Yeah. I I

077just don't want the board uh surprised with overtures that's going to exceed what we have allocated for this project. So the sooner we secure all contracts and things of that nature where contractors cannot go back and raise their prices or whatever, I hope we have some verbiage in the language that says those things that we are tight with our numbers. >> Yeah. And and I think to understand is he put I it started back I think when Ken when we were talking about the tiff money right and what how we were going to do that and then there was a preventive maintenance line in there but uh Mr. Soiski's put in from the beginning two million to put the rooftops, you know, to replace that and that's why classified as a rooftop or chiller because

078I know they're pricey, right? But we don't know what those are. But he broke that away from the middle school to make sure that we stayed on track with this so we're on pace. So prepping the building in this summer so that next summer we can get it done. Um because you can change those. That was one of the questions I had. you know, is the capacity of the existing going to handle the the newer areas? So, and I think the answer if if I look at it, you go ahead and answer that. But that was one of the questions because it's already conditioning that space, but now we're just breaking that space in little spaces. >> Okay. So, right now that current space is being air conditioned. >> It's inside the building. So, it's

079in a conditioned area. Yeah. >> But, and they do different manual JS, right? Manual JS on windows and it depends. Right. >> Yeah. You're closing those rooms off. They're going to be interior rooms other than two exterior classrooms, right? >> Correct. In the uh that's the only one. >> Yeah. The current proposal that we're looking to approve tonight of the, you know, roughly $4.4 million with the design fee included. There's a line item for uh just under $450,000 to address HVAC in the >> 2015 edition. There will be one additional rooftop unit that's already included in this pricing. And then Bill, you can jump in on this. Several BABs uh that are they're going to use to help with the flow um in that area because as Bill said, it's already indoors are just kind

080of rerouting where that air is going. >> Correct. And I my my spiel was basically to let you guys know um being in that meeting and looking at these numbers that we're coming in better than what we originally. So meaning if something comes up in the meanwhile and we need to address something as they're building for the middle school, we have a little flexibility to give the middle school, you know, do that >> because they've done a good job and Mr. Okinski's done a good job with that. So it's just basically making the everybody else here aware of that because I was part of that meeting >> and I have and I've heard loud and clear from the board of education regarding the 10% contingencies. When Bill sat in with the meeting that he referenced

081in June, they were at 50% of the design process. Since then, they've got to 90% of the design process, which allowed them to go to the TIPS cooperative and get favorable pricing, right? >> We have an idea of when we're going to start this project. um they uh had a 2% design contingency which is included in the amounts I gave you and they feel comfortable that their construction contingency should only be 6%. However, I know how the board feels about contingencies. So, I continue to keep a 10% contingency in the presentation and I plan for a 10% because I know that's, you know, that makes everyone in this room feel comfortable and I makes me feel comfortable not to rely solely on contractors just to give us that little bit of a buffer. So, I

082continue to put the 10% contingency in short-term facility plan and plan for that financial year. >> Right. I it was in the it was in the when he presented that. >> Okay. I I just want to be tight with our numbers, but let me make sure I understand. And Bear Construction is our general contractor. >> Yeah. >> Bear Construction is a is a construction company that's, you know, registered with the TIPS cooperative that allows us to work with them directly. >> Okay. Tips cooperative cooperative. They are the ones that's on our behalf representing us, right? Uh the t the cooperative is you know basically you put in a region where you're looking to get the rates what kind of rate you're doing when you're doing it and then it's all pre-negotiated contracts that the contractor

083can work with in their subs. >> Okay. All right. And you there representing you are there for our over to make sure we got checks and balances and so on and so forth. Right. >> Yes sir. I I uh I plan to follow the same process that we work with the sports flex. Mr. McClean was very instrumental in that. Um, and I honestly think, you know, what I'm what I'm seeing from this, I know, you know, we previously we went out to bid with a lot of SummerSlam projects. As you can see from the agenda right now, we're still just finishing up a payment to read construction from almost 14 months ago. Um, Keith, we've had what, three walkthroughs um on the stadium building since this week. Uh, just to verify the work. It's been

084a much smoother process. um very little in terms of change orders and it's it's been a much pleasant experience. Uh and that you know through them working with us directly through the tips cooperative what I see is a vendor that's very committed to the district where I can't say I always got that with whoever won the bid because they're getting the bid you know for 3 months and then they're moving on from the project some of the delays we've seen when we went out to bid and working with those contractors. So, I think it's a very good relationship we have and everyone's pleased with the work and the time frame and the cost. >> Okay. And again, uh let's continue to provide the oversight. the limiting factor that we had, we was looking to get

085$5 million from our TIF, which we are getting, but the 1.5 million that we're not getting in evidencebased funding kind of take a million and a half out of the five million that we're getting from UP to pay. We was looking to pay $2 million out of that $5 million on a yearly basis to pay for the sports complex as well as the middle school, right? two million a year. That's what we're looking to do. >> 2.25 million. >> So, so we just have to, you know, and and it sounds like we're doing it. So, forgive me if I'm diving in a little deeper than what I should, but I just saw some things that I thought >> and that's why I kind of wanted to say something is that I wanted to make sure

086that all of us that are voting on what we're voting that they have all the information. >> Yeah. So, you've been on the ground level and thank you. We really appreciate you having understanding of this and bringing it to us. So, >> and as I did in June, I will be sure to reach out to Bill when we get closer to seeing those page back plans for the entire school. So, >> just the whole project. I want to make sure that the middle school, you know, like I said, it's been a a good they've done a good job out here. So, I want to make sure we continue that over there and they get a great job at the middle school. >> So, are we at a standstill right now at the middle school with

087work or we still work in the evenings or whatever? We did a lot of work during the summer, right? >> Yeah. I mean, at this point, we are I am pushing for them to, you know, based upon the outcome of this meeting. Um, I would like to break ground, weather permitted, if they could secure stuff and get started just a little bit, maybe pour the foundation, some of the exterior work, >> doing the work in the weekends or something like that or not doing the school days, they're not going to be working, right? >> Well, I'm saying the exterior work, you know, how they got started on bridges a little early with some of that stuff. >> Are they going to be doing that during school hours? some of the exterior work could be done

088if it doesn't uh disrupt the educational environment. That's >> that's what I'm alluding to. Yes. >> Okay. Whatever they can do without being disruptive to the learning. >> Yes, sir. And then also stay on um also stay on schedule because we know how important it is to finish that project on time. >> Yeah. Because start school >> if we approve it like that's the idea tonight. Then if we have a super cold winter, >> it delays everything. So we want to stay on. They've done a good job with the sports bucks on staying on target. So, we want to make sure we give them the necessary time frame to stay on target. >> Yes. And provide again like you for the sports complex a nice plan, action plan with milestones, things of that nature that

089we can follow. The board can look at and say, "Hey, we should be here. This is where we at." I'm sure we going to have a similar plan like you have for the sports complex, right? >> Yes, sir. I'll continue to uh include the critical updates that you're looking for critical pathway. >> Sure. Okay. Thank you. Thank appreciate it. Thank you, Bill. >> Yep. >> All right. So, the motion is out there. We had discussion and any further discussion? If not, roll call, please. >> For items two and three. >> Two only. Just two. >> Just two. Okay. Miss Miss Venegas. >> Hi. >> Miss Wilfolk. >> I >> Mr. Salesish. >> Hi. >> Zit Stumbris is an I. Mr. Gagos. >> I. >> Mr. Brown. >> I. Motion carry. Can I have a motion

090to approve number eight act under action report a alpha number three award the design project of cremoni middle school renovation to ar con >> archon >> aran aran >> arcon >> archon associates >> moved >> second >> any question okay thank you uh we got >> Alex got second >> got second Okay. >> Who moved it? >> I I moved it. >> Okay. Alex got second. Okay. Any discussions on this? >> If not, roll call, please. Madam Secretary, >> Mr. Salesish. >> Hi. >> Miss Venegas. >> I. >> Miss Wolf. >> I >> Zit Stumbris is an I. Mr. Gagos. I, >> Mr. Brown. >> I motion carry. Any old business? >> Yeah, I had one thing I wanted to bring up. Um, so last week I asked the question I saw on the short-term

091facility plan, the pack and wash. I just had a few questions and uh they sent the information and I kind of printed it all out. Uh just kind of wanted to get an overview of the of what the building was for, you know, some logistics on it and then we can figure out, you know, the money and and whatnot. But I guess the question is I know you got the contract I think was from Bear Construction. You got it from somebody is are they building it? >> Um no, the the company that Miss Bernetti identified that she was going to procure the building from, they're actually they outsourced with another subcontractor to construct the building. So that was the detailed break out of the money. >> Yeah, that that was all the equipment and everything

092that she's looking to put in the building uh that she used that she got the grant for $50,000 for. So it includes the cost of the building, some of the equipment. Um I got looped in when it became, you know, capital needs such as utilities, HVAC, concrete, things along those lines to make the building a reality. Um that's how I got included into the project. Um and representatives from Bear and Archive met me out there. We talked about what we wanted to do and they went through the tips cooperative too to get pricing on on that uh to make the capital needs of that project possible. >> Do part of it. So the bear is going to do part of it probably some of the concrete work ex you know whatever. I guess that's the

093question. So it's a sustainable building climate wise. It's not a greenhouse. So it's going to be it's going to need heat. It's going to have AC have water. Um plumbing, electrical, the whole No plumbing, no no bathrooms or anything like that, but it will be temperature controlled. Um, so we wouldn't have to shut it down and winterize it in the winter. >> So, Miss Bernki got a $50,000 grant. Is that a yearly grant or is that just a one-time thing? >> Uh, from my understanding, it's a one-time thing. That's why she would look to purchase the, you know, fund the building construction and also the equipment. >> All right. And then has anybody, they haven't told anything about yearly maintenance or what's going to be entire because she's got a walk-in cooler in here. the

094rest of it it looks fine but the walk-in cooler they'll be is there anything costwise I just want to make sure >> whatever we start here we want to be able to sustain it >> so that's the thing and I know they're growing in the garden but it we want to make sure we sustain what we put up so that's basically what I'm making sure >> yeah I can try and get some energy estimates or what might be some reoccurring cost that we'll see after constructing the building I can do that >> yeah and and that's it so if we decide to vote on this in October is totally fine. I just wanted to make sure everybody has the information cuz like I said before last Tuesday, I didn't even I printed, you know, that

095and then you sent the drawings out of what the building looks like and where it's going to go. So, at least we can all of us can take a look at that and if you can just send something in the FYI stating that it'll be minimal or there shouldn't be anything major, but as long as it's sustainable, you know, whatever our budget your budget can handle, then it's it's fine with me. I mean, that's just my I don't know how everybody else feels, but I just want to make sure we can sustain that. I can include that FYI too. Unless Bill can see it. I know we did talk about that because I did the uh >> it's a quick math thing. I >> think it was 60 by 60. >> It's approximately 864 feet.

09624 by 36. >> So, and I'm sorry. And so we're talking about electric being out there, >> no plumbing, >> water, too, because it's going to be a wash building, but we won't necessarily put >> Okay. So, you're going to need you're going to need drains. >> Mhm. >> And going to the drain system. So, you got plumbing, electric, and no heating. I heard >> no heat. >> Yes, heat will be there. >> Heat. Okay. So, we got heat, but no air condition. >> Yeah. And then there's a walk-in cooler in there. So, >> so we got a cooler. Yeah. We got put 220 at least. I mean, we got to bring a couple circuits out. >> I just want to make sure the number we got, you know, I think it was 315. I'm

097going to guess at that 315,000 to for our capital outlay. >> Yes, sir. And I I have included the the estimate from bare construction and then it broke down, you know, for each section that you guys are asking for. HVAC and plumbing. >> Yeah, I saw that lines. I put that in FYI. I can include that again in this week's FYI if you would like. >> So that's 300 a,000 square foot for 300 and something,000, right? So that's over $300 a square foot. Is the building going to be structure- wise brick or what? >> I believe it's like a metal frame. >> It's it's metal frame. So it's a uh Hang on. And I printed all the pages out. It's a 24 foot wide carport style metal metal building. >> A metal building. >> Yeah.

098>> Did I hear you say that the teacher got the quotes first and then it became out? >> Miss Berni got the grant for I heard you say she did some of the leg work to get some of the quotes first. >> She she uh she was appropriated given the grant. Um, and then when she found out that she got $50,000, she thought about what she would like to spend it on. And so she gave a rough estimate of, you know, the equipment and kind of took charge on laying out what she would like to spend that money on. >> Yeah. It looks like she reached out to American Steel Carports because her name's on it. >> So my question is, was that appropriate >> meaning um it seemed like it was given to us

099on the back end? I guess I'm trying to understand gr when did it become ours to manage. >> Well, I think the budget. >> Yeah, >> I understand what she did, right? So, she gets a she gets a grant and then she's coming to the board asking for our assistance, right? Because the >> I understand what she's doing and and why she's doing it and I appreciate the fact that she actually went out and did the leg work. Um, we just got to figure out what works for us, right? So we just got to work figure out if this is something that you know we can cap put capital money out for and then what two my biggest thing I would say is can we sustain it? So once we put it can we maintain

100it for a long period of time. >> So I appreciate the leg work too. I was just making sure it was done in order meaning oh I got this grant let me partner with you facilities. What are my next steps? What do I do first? What do I do second? >> Yeah. >> I don't know. I couldn't tell that that >> I don't have the answer to that. I'm going to say >> so. Basically, we got a we got a $50,000 down payment on a $300,000 right now project building. Is that fair? >> I wouldn't necessarily consider a down payment. I mean, there's stipulations that come with the grant. I believe the grant can't be used for capital projects. No, if you look at what she's on there for, she's putting stuff in the building

101with the 50 and I think she's looking for the district to >> the three the cost of the building. >> And to be honest, I >> and maintain it. I >> don't believe Mr. Aki applied for the grant. It was given by state legislators that saw how well we're doing with the program and growing it. So, they said, "Hey, I know you guys are trying to grow the program. >> I can appropriate $50,000 for you." Okay. >> And that's where we got to put our heads at, I think, is that we we want to make sure that that a program is succeeds, >> right? >> And we want to make sure that it moves forward and we just want to figure out where we're at, you know, financially, how much of that we can put

102in there. >> Yeah. So, so at this moment, you're talking about possibly bringing it to the board for an approval, right? And right now, we passed a budget that is a it's a not a balanced budget, right? We are a couple hundred,000 in the red. >> Yeah. And paper I think was seven or eight. Right. >> Right. >> I just want to bring up that what I'm proposing with the 315,000 is a capital project which is not included in that 700,000 capital projects are not part of the what you receive what you consider as operating expenses. They're not part of your financial profile score. That's why I always said I wanted to keep those separate when I speak to you guys. You have your operating funds which is your 10 fund, your 20 fund, your

10340 fund, your 70 fund and then outside of that is your 60 fund which is capro projects. >> Okay, >> that's how it was presented in the short-term facility plan. >> Okay. So, uh yeah, let's move it forward bring it to the committee as a whole. We can >> have discussion. >> Yeah, we can have further discuss it and I don't want I don't want to put the brakes on it now. A lot of lead work have been involved and we take it from there. Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you, Jason. Thanks, Bill. And and Janine and whoever else had questions. All right. New business or any other old business? >> One more old business. So, I know in the FYI they talked somebody had put in the FYI and off the top of my

104head I can't figure out who put it in there, but >> they had mentioned, hey, you know, we have approximately from the bond sale, we have 5 million left, you know, and what are we going to do with it? I'll go I'm just gonna give you my honest opinion that I think at this point until we get through the sports complex 100% and we get really into the middle school and almost done with that. I think we should wait because one, I want to make sure the appropriate funds are available for the middle school if something were to come up. Yeah. >> But B, I just want to make sure that we're all looking at our budget, you know, our our budget to just make sure that we're waiting on everything and not coming up

105with any. I know we have wish lists. We all do. But at this point, we we did five buildings, we're doing the sports, we're doing the middle school. I think at this point now, we have to kind of I think we take a look at everything in the spring and see where we're at. Keep that because we have three years, right? essentially three years on that. >> Is that three years? I know we asked >> from when we sell >> when we have to sell. Yes. >> Yeah. >> Three years from what date from the initial when we sell. >> I want to say we have three years from March 19th, 2024. >> Can you get us a certain time frame for our next meeting? >> Given the work I was doing with Dr. Car

106tonight, I'm pretty or this afternoon, I'm pretty sure that March 19th was the date, 2024. But I would be sure to reach out to >> and it's three years from there. >> I would be sure and I'll reach out to >> We don't want We definitely don't want to miss that opportunity. Okay. >> No. And I but I do want to point out that you did you know you did ask about the payment um that we currently have for the alternative revenue bonds. It's currently 2.25 uh 2.25 million annually. That's based on the 30 million that we issue. So if we do go to sell the additional 5 million that we're going to have also to consider the payment that's going to come on that additional money being >> go up a little bit. >>

107I just want to make sure that we can keep that into consideration. >> Right. So like I said it's it's there >> in case but I think until we get through the sports and the middle school >> before we talk about another big that's just my opinion. I just wanted to make sure we're an old business. It was in the FYI so that at least we'd at least think about it that way just in case because remember we just did CIT's roof. We got a couple other roofs. You know, we got some parking lots that we may want to address at some point. So before we do anything else, there are some things that need some >> probably a little TLC. >> Prioritize prioritize what what needs to be done first. >> But you're right,

108find a date so that we know we don't miss out on that. >> Exactly. >> Okay. Any other old business? If not, new business. >> Uh, what are we what are we doing? Uh, is there any updates to mech? >> Oh, that's that was in there. That was in the That that date's coming up. That was in the FYI, right? >> Yes. Uh, the bid opening for MEC was scheduled for uh 9:00 on September 15th. Uh we did not receive any bids for that property at that time. >> Hello. >> Is that Alex? Alex >> hitting answer or decline? >> I say decline. Hello. >> Hello. >> Is that okay? >> Yeah. Sorry, I got disconnected. >> Oh, okay. I'm just making sure it was you, Mr. >> Did you see? >> Yeah. Yeah, it

109was me. >> I think our secretary had a document that you missed a minute on the meeting. >> Just kidding. >> Okay. Uh, so back to old business. Is there any updates that uh we have going on for mech? Um, is there any any advances or anything? >> I think I lost you. Uh, uh, Mr. Gos, we had a bid opening scheduled for the sale of MEC uh, on September 15th at 9:00 a.m. No bids were submitted uh, for that opening. So, as of right now, we don't have a a buyer for that property. >> Yeah, we have to go back to the drawing table on this issue, Alex. Okay, sounds good. Thank you. >> Thank you, sir. Okay. And understand and put it back out there. Any new business? >> Okay. Uh, we have

110no reason for a close session. And can I have a motion to adjourn? Moved. Move by Bill. >> Second. I second. All in favor say I. >> I. I >> any nays we are adjourned. Thank you public for joining us this evening. Have a safe and productive rest of your evening.
