I'm going to let Dr Cogan need read this that's from Miss Smith uh given that my eyes are challenged and this font is like a size three I'll do my best okay all right all right here we go good evening members of the board I'm here tonight to bring attention to a serious incident that occurred on February 4th 2025 involving my child a ail cornick who was left on a school bus following early dismissal on that day school let out at 12:15 p.m. however my child did not arrive home until nearly 2:10 p.m. I had placed an air tag on my child at the beginning of the school year due to ongoing inconsistencies with first students transportation services at approximately 1:35 p.m. I reached out to a friend to see if her child had arrived
home he had concerned I check with my child's air tag location saw that my kindergartner was pinged on Chicago road heading north past Highway past um Highway B bakery at that moment I began calling the school and for student to locate my child when my child finally arrived home I immediately contacted Katie Cooper upon the review of the bus camera footage it was revealed that the driver never stopped at our designated bus stop located in our front yard and failed to conduct the required walkth through um of the bus after that last stop had I not placed an air tag on my child would I what would have happened how long would my child have remain on the bus and the days following this incident that I learned that my child was not the only
one left behind on the bus I understand that the driver has since been terminated but this issue goes beyond a single employee what steps is the district taking to ensure that no other child is Left Behind again more importantly why does a district continue to contract with a company that has repeatedly demonstrated incompetence in keeping our children safe and ensuring that they arrive at home on time I urge the district to take immediate action to hold first student accountable and to implement safeguards to prevent this from happening in the future the safety of our children must be a top priority thank you for your time and this was submitted by Denine Smith concerned mother of AEL gorick thank you doc Dr cogin and as you alluded to in this public comment we will take the
appropriate action this is definitely unacceptable Behavior we will take the actions as to mitigate and to prevent the reoccurrence of this event and Dr kogan will be posting on the on the web her response yes we will respond to the parent individually and let them know uh let her know of uh how we're addressing this addressing this okay thank you thank you all right do we have any board updates that's good when everybody want to speak at White time that's great no I just wanted to um say how proud I am of we have a a wrestler who's going down state Thursday um and wrestl near and dear to my heart because not because I wrestled but because my sons wrestled um and my youngest son placed that state for Creek he's a All State
wrestler but we have one going down then our ch team which I know nothing about Chess I know how to play checkers um I have finished the highest they've ever finished in the state um and in class 3A I think they finished they W five matches was it four or five matches right and they and overall they finished fourth and 3A or something like that but they they're doing they did a phenomenal job so just really Mr Noble the coach of that so yeah and the the coach of the who's the coach of the wrestling team her MZ yes fantastic yes so and we had a girl who I think went down I know she she won a match I think which is the first time in uht history we had I think they won
one or two matches wow yeah so so we're growing um and and I know that I wish that I could have um seeing the show choir perform you know I just I heard I saw the setup and everything it's always a beautiful setup and amazing how they do I saw a lot of the videos so that weekend we hosted an event but then Alex and I were at one Saturday in Mantino and the team did amazing yeah they they won actually they won best Coro best vocals Best in Show solo mom's Choice Award and they are also the grand Champions yeah awesome so two of our kids won best male best female solo solos yeah so we yeah we cleaned house cleaned house so far I think the up the the up FYI by Miss
Highline has been really good bringing us that information yeah um to at least keep us uh posted so that we're in the the buildings we can tell the coaches and the students you know how proud We are them so so Bill and and Alex did your kids get their talents from you or no no no mind nope oh I forgot you Jamie I forgot okay J I forgot oh I forgot Jamie oh bad we this boy is representing the choir a big time parents are good wow I'm sorry Dr Hall Ste on you that's fine um I'm used to it no I'm joking I'm joking it's good to mention I'll talk to you doing amazing the wrestling doing amazing every you know our our basketball team is close they haven't won 20 games and God
knows when and they I think they're up to 18 victories oh wow it'll be tough but I don't I don't know how many games they have left but wow um so we're doing good in that in that real um hopefully that would lead with the work support of University Park and their Park District and Creek hopefully will'll start working with us um I know Co coach um the the director of Athletics um Mr keki said that he now has a partnership with the Lions play at the new stadium oh wow as well as the uh Creek Bulldogs one will play Saturday G home games another will play Sunday home games so they're doing a good job of trying to connect with the communities yeah um from that standpoint so that's really exciting and creep already
practices at the high school because they had no where to practice but up already had a place to practice so that wasn't an issue so you know um I know University Park basketball program um they use the facilities so that that's exciting so I I really like how we're just partnership yeah trying to partnership with the communities and I think that's the idea having a separate Fieldhouse and the the main gym is that allow these youth programs to come up and understand hey there's a goal yeah you want to be here right this is where we're we're coming so I think it's great that is excellent that is excellent just to here that we definitely got a lot of talent and I just want to add to that our special Olympic teams you know that
side of the fence been blowing out the box they've been hitting out the park with different championships different team uh members and athletes placing in first second and third place so so definitely board for supporting going out and see these kids participate that means a lot to them thank you thank you so much if I remember properly I think our dance team also did really well so Kudos kudos to the dance te I see the Jay's over there today J and and J and Jamie both are not in ah head about that well I'm just saying is your kid your kid J participate but oh yeah all right we have a really a really good dance coach uh Miss Mrs Brown Beverly Brown she's a really good dance coach so I know because I was
was her assistant principal at Morgan Park when she won City champ I think she won like three City championships I thought they took some lessons or something no you know what I don't think anybody can teach me how to dance that's fo that is so great keep it going Warriors keep it going out there all right anything else board updates yeah one more [Music] yeah he said Dr Hall is the greatest that's so there exactly there is going to be a bpack uh presentation where uh Dr Fernie Hernandez uh is is going to make a presentation about um uh Tech methods to raising happy children like like successful children and I think it's important that um if anybody uh if any of our uh bilingual parents are watching today like they they know where to
go uh to get uh the information that uh that uh can help you know so uh that is going to be on uh the 3 March 3rd at 5:30 uh uh uh for Zoom through Zoom it's going to be a virtual uh meeting um shouldn't take more than an hour I don't think um but uh yeah I'm I'm looking forward to uh seeing that presentation I've heard a lot of good things about uh this doctor uh erandis so wow excellent that was great the way you communicated that man I love that that was good didn't understand the word you said but that was good I I thought I told you what he said oh no if you told me that I knew I knew that wasn't the truth okay thank you Alex doing just a
great job representing our uh Hispanic kids so thank you so much any other comments from the board do want to welcome back our our board sister Jamie and again let you know we are here for you anything we can do reach out for us we love you we love you Jamie all right do we have any administrative updates um yeah I've just got a few things to share um in echoing what was said earlier from uh our trustee from University Park um I do have a meeting that we're trying to set up with mayor rudz and business manager Elizabeth Scott in the upcoming weeks we are looking for ways to continue to collaborate on communication and ways to support one another in um you know communicating back and forth the good things going on over
our district to to the up community and also being sharing the good things that are going on in the University Park good community so just we definitely could get I know we Embark upon some input with cre with their yes I meet with them once communication lad letter or something to that nature right know mo you get involved with that somehow right with their communication portion still um I'd like to do more with them like I said so it's nice to see these Bridges coming with the communication so I'm really uh pleased to do that I think what we're all finding the same thing is you know the written word is no longer even acceptable to get information out to people it is the video it's the video social media as everyone knows uh it's
very hard what we're seeing you know anything you put in print has to be so concise and short no one's reading it so we're challenging ourselves as we talk about in this these communities how we getting information out there's so much information and even about information that's going on in our schools I know there was something that was put out on Facebook about a fight it was from 2016 it wasn't even current so those are the things that are frustrating because you know we uh we don't we don't look like we did years ago things are different and so we're really working on that in District to get the word out some of the good things and so one of the things I'm going to be talking about at least today is um I want
to let you know one of our teachers her name is Sarah Val Valerio she's an AP History teacher over at the high school she is a finalist one of 30 for the Golden Apple so that goes to show you we've got some outstanding yes so we're putting out a press release right now we're working on that to push that out so I mean and that is just one of things I was just meeting with Mr hollyfield today you know we in our our district stands out in a variety of ways but in particular is we have the highest amount of dual enrollment around for anyone else um the amount of things that we offer our students for AP classes and if you're a parent that's having to think about college you know having AP classes
under that belt is a really nice way um to either have the aps or having the dual enrollment as you know we had one student that graduated with a two-year degree under their belt already wow that's what we want to see those are the things that we're offering wow um our academics are strong they really are and I think we've got to make sure that we're sharing that with everybody and not only our our Sports programs our um and our fine arts program but our academic program as well so um like I said we're working on it to get that information out so I wanted to share that is the golden apple a state award or a national award um I believe it is a national I think it is National yeah that's great yeah
it is one of 30 yeah so we're really excited about that so anyway uh we certainly want to highlight our own staff and you know we have so many fabulous alumni that are coming back to work with us and what we're doing at the high school with growing our own program here uh Mr holfield is going to be taking another group down uh to state to be showcasing our program so again I could really talk all night about some of the good stuff going on but like I said I'm working on getting some of that information out through video work that we're working on right now as well as some other uh vehicles um for that well I don't want to take any thunder away from but I just want to just compliment you what
you're saying here we have some Dynamic teachers we do and as we off these schools these are some well oil schools I mean they they are Ono from the cafeteria to the teachers the gym teachers the whole n yards I'm like I challenge parents to just walk these schools and don't you don't have to announce yourselves and go to the principal and say hey can I walk to schools or whatever it is unbelievable how well functioned these schools we he a couple things that you said 2016 some stuff came out and all of that but I am so impressed I am yeah we're really we're really pleased with our our school programs and we appreciate that all the board members all of you are in our schools in one way or another to see what's
going on and I know sometimes and once in a while you might get fed a lunch too protein egg and a protein bar yeah so so everything is actually you know I'm really pleased with this district and everybody that is just really doing phenomenal things it's a it's a privilege to work here it really is well keep it going so um I think that's all I've got for tonight oh I I also wanted to just give a little bit of an update and uh Mr ozinsky can chime in on this just an update with the Mec building that would be for sale um I know it's not on the agendas but um Jason do you want to just talk briefly about where we're at with that so people in the community know about this in
case there's people that are interested we are hearing there's a several people did you say it's not the agenda it's not did you say it's not to we're doing the opening bidding for it that's coming up tomorrow okay so let me have Jason kind of share with you on that correct we have the resolution um to take action on tonight um I do have a publication set for uh to run uh tomorrow in the Daily Southtown uh run once a week for three successive weeks and we have a bid opening scheduled for March 13th um for the sealed bid process to for the sale of the building okay um also work with Miss Calla Ericson uh direct uh in Communications Department and we have information posted on the website underneath Department's business and bidding is
where you can find information regarding the sale of MEC okay so yeah let people know if they're interested so it starts tomorrow the tomorrow starts the day yeah after we take action on a resolution tonight then that'll get the process going and I approved the proof earlier today and made the deadline so it'll be in the paper tomorrow is it on our it's going to be on our website as well it's currently on the website yes and then social media as well social media okay okay good like I said our goal is not to pay for cutting the grass over here this summer The Lights yeah okay anything else is the teacher here she she's not here right she's not here okay yeah that's that's excellent and just think about we have maybe 800 60
school districts coupled with how many teachers are in those districts and to have one of 30 are finalist to be a finalist here that says a lot that says a lot says volumes so all right thank you Dr koganes for the good news all right moving along on our consent agenda send the approval is there anyone board member that would like to pull an item out of the consent agenda and to approve it separately hearing no response can I have a motion to approve the consent agenda so move move by Dr Hall second second by Bill and want to read it can all right um underneath superintendent report item one approve the regular meeting minutes of January 21st 2025 item two approve the regular meeting close s minutes of 20 January 21st 2025 item three
approved Committee of the whole meeting minutes of January 14 2025 item four approve the closed approve uh approve review of the closed session meet minutes of June 2024 through December 2024 item five approve a special board meeting for May 6 2025 under business item one approve the Board of Education financial report item two approve a payment of uh 49,1 12423 cents to be construction for work at crey high school item three approve a payment of $225,900 to bernon Jones Construction for work at cre high school and underneath personnel and culture approved the Personnel report which consists of approving certified staff resignation and educational support staff employment reassignment amend retirement dates resignation termination and unpaid leave of appson and that concludes our report thank you Dr koganes any further questions or comments yeah I just I
just note that the budget def projected budget deficit for the year keeps growing so hoping maybe at the coming uh Committee of the whole meeting maybe we could have that as a presentation on what's driving it what we can do about it to kind of close that up before the end of the year yes um we do plan to have a a forecast coming in in March you know we're doing some preliminary things of efficiency plans right now once we have those efficiency plans in we'll be able to better uh tweak that budget uh before we present it to you okay yeah and I'm planning to get my eyes on that too uh shortly thanks Nelson any other questions comments just real quick on that the TR you don't know the transportation numbers until the
reimbursement and any of that till afterwards right doesn't that carry into 20 the next fiscal year it lags the year and um tried to explain it pretty well in the FYI but I put a together presentation for the public when you come back in March if you have like an idea on that I guess that'll help our project or what I think Mr Al said before okay Jason do you know when do we expect to get our first Tiff money in from University Park is that is that the fall no it'll come in the spring and June spring and that's honestly that's something that I'm relying heavily um to balance the budget this year okay excellent um real quick on that so we have an idea what that amount is and we talked about that
at least a year ago and even a little long before that with your predecessor I know it's you know when March is coming kind of bring a idea we had I think we had an original concept of how that was going to be breaking down because in the next year MO is going to close a tip which will bring up just over a million I think it is million and a half I yeah it was a 1.2 or 1.3 million and we had that combined with up to figure out you know how we were going to section that off in three sections with uh I think prevented however it's going to work just kind of look at that too so we make sure that we're still on course for all of that because all the
work we did in all the buildings yeah it was going to be onethird Debt Service one third preventive maintenance and one third operations yes and I want to make sure we're on point with that because with all the money we spend we want to make sure the buildings stay maintained because that's where we I got trouble for yeah and and and just I was thinking bill because yeah you did we did kind of say a third here third here third here that third was one3 was going to be for PMS and things like that and just as I was thinking the other day I'm going to talk to Jason and his team to be a little bit more specific if they can give us a little bit more detail on what some of those big
gun items for PM is forecast to be correct because saying some of that money will help the budget deficit but realistically the cost of preved Maintenance right long term is huge right so so I would like to see some specific things just say borders being inspected you know once annually for 400,000 we had the high school chillers I think we had them drain and redone yeah over the year we ran into the issue this year one of them went down right and we had to repair that yeah so that's the idea and I know forecasting could be a little challenging now because you're still trying to set everything for the end of the year the fiscal year but it is still important at some point maybe through the summer to forecast like a fiveyear plan
on our because I know we're in our second phase of creed Elementary roof but what other buildings like where we at so we can still kind of save some of that out yeah and the good news is our life safety dollars came in much lower than I would have ever 500 something thousand and then I want to see those items because the last time it came up I don't get off TR track here but the last time we had our life safety survey in 2013 those prices were really escalated right because I don't know how we came up with those prices our architect but for example a light switch cover it had an estimated cost of like $300 or $400 to install the cover so we extrapolated a lot that we did inhouse that our
people can do in house with the workforce we had and a lot of those numbers tremendously came down so I just would like to see those items that was identified before we get too happy we can even probably bring it down from 500,000 to 200,000 and you were right Mr Brown of saying that Jason and his team can put together something where we can do it over two years we could do it so that it doesn't because we understand the budget is where it's at and we understand you got to work on that but we don't want to put the pressure on that part of it as as much as trying to stay right just giving Jason his so we can probably bring that number down even more by doing some work in house no
I'm I'm in complete agreement with you when uh Keith mlan and I looked at it we felt a lot of those numbers were inflated and we could bring them down but I just presented them to you with a contingency with the architectural fee to you know My Philosophy is to go high and then we could always come in lower sure but I I do have faith that we can handle a lot of that in housee and I'd be surprised if that number got anywhere near because at the end of the day we trying to have the most effective budget we we can get okay as efficient and effective as possible and those numbers are worst case scenario yeah yeah yeah that's good but they can easily be in uh inflationary sure real easy right so
that's why we want to get it done as quick as we could because the June or the 2013 price was this amount but when we actually did the work five or six years later it almost doubled from inflationary benefactor okay great any other comments concerns on consent agenda if not roll call please Mr secretary miss wol I miss zit stus I Mr swales I Mr gagos is an i Mr Albert I Dr Hall I president Brown I motion Carri up next is number eight Action Report Alpha we missed the word approved so the first word under Alpha under eight it should say approve Board of Education I'm sorry under Board of Education number one it should say approve resolution declaring Creek mon 2011 UA Safe Haven School District give have a motion to approve such
statement jet said so moved move by Jamie I second second by Mo any questions or comments I just I I have some concerns is that how this will be perceived by the community um there's nothing new in here it's all that we don't already do it's all policy school code state law and we're already following that and these uh protections apply to every student in our district currently and I just think I think it's going to be uh misinterpreted by a good section of our constituents and uh as we're doing something new here when we're not so I just have I have concerns and you know when I was sitting in your seat Mo I just always tried to think about we're not approving anything new here why do you want to do something to
bring attention I mean to the board that's un unneeded or unwarranted and um you know in Tennessee you kind of call it an unforced error so I think it we'll see how it plays out but that's my concern I guess my only thing is sort of is what's most important is what your team put together procedurally right that's really where this is really going to take itself to the next level of protecting our kids it's not cuz to be honest with you it's a piece of paper and if the procedures aren't filed then it doesn't really mean much so what's most important is that you have procedures with for your team get out to the building and you relay that out to the community I think that's to me more important because Mr Al's right
it's already in all of our stuff that's our job and I remember the week the well was it two weeks ago when we were talking about this I called you to talk about and you had already said someone else had already called to bring up you know what to do because my main priority was I need to make sure the kids in this district and the and the employees are safe right and you said we putting a team together you're putting all that together that to me is more important of of how we're handling that and do we have our procedures in place because like I said it's it's one thing to put it here but if the procedures aren't followed you know I mean we have it already in writing and now you're just
putting in writing again but if the your team and your procedures are what's most important to me so any other questions comments and again the intent was never to divide the community at all and I think I mentioned the last time and I hate to be repetitive in my statements that I said that if there's a initiative out there that doesn't negatively impact anyone and I'm not seeing this negatively impacting anyone other than perception but it positively impact one person it's a good initiative that's how I look at it and then I did I sent the board all of the different policies that meet the intent of this particular resolution so we just grabbed it here we grabb every procedure we had somewhat and put it here and personally and this what the board think
it's just not my personal feeling here but personal I see no harm in doing this I think nothing but something good could come out as if if the people who's against it if they really look at the intent if they're saying that this is already covered by the current policies and procedures that we have I don't see any harm that's me we let the board I'm sorry you go ahead is there a way to add the caveat at the beginning that states in accordance with laws already existing we declare our you know what I mean to let people know that this isn't something we're changing but right up at the beginning we're saying what it is those laws say and then is there the potential to add what the policy and procedure is with that
so I it it would take more smithing I do understand so we wouldn't be able to vote on it tonight but if we told if we had this is what the state says we we need to do we do all of these things and here's how we do them and put together like the procedures that we are following to ensure we are A Safe Haven District okay so you want the opportunity to revisit this no no no I want to hear other people's thoughts this is just like I'm sorry sure no no because you know again we had we had a lot of conversation because this way it might address some of the concerns that you folks had had while also adding the we do this and here's how we ensure we are keeping your
stud so one thing I I brought up or I talked about before and I think Mr alre mentioned it last week it's about consistency where we're we're a very diverse District without a doubt and back several years before doc do uh Dr Hall was here miss Mitchell was here and we had the incidents of George Floyd and I went out to bre you know went out and had coffee with Miss Mitchel to discuss that to how are we going to move forward as a district because at that point in time you know there was a lot of tension in in the country between African-Americans and police and everything going on and remember after that happened we had security guards and police here in the building and we had to address how to how to come
together with that everything was in our place we superintendent put stuff together and we kind of tried to keep all that where we come together as one in the same sense there is a situation out there in the country right but we didn't make a resol ution then and just pull stuff out of our stuff we just kind of came together we put some policies we put some uh procedures in in place to make sure that everybody in our district at that time felt safe to come to school and and kind of be together and we talked about it as a board and I talked to Miss Mitchell to make sure that we bring it that you know we want to be together in this so I kind of feel that making resolution is is
is I I just don't understand it and again every body there seven of us can vote either way but I'm just want to make sure that the message is consistent as we move forward and anytime there's an issue you know procedures to me and the way Dr car's team handled that is really it's Pinnacle right I mean anything that happens here it's about how they handle them the procedures in place are we ready for it okay any other board member definitely out of respect for Jamie that to give her opportunity to look at it I do value your input that an opportunity to word Smith it possibly uh don't want to throw anything down for lack of a better phrase your your throat without you having a good chance to vent this no no no
I I've read it and I'm I I support I support report it but in addition I also understand and hear what these two gents are saying so I think if there are ways to assuage these fears and kind of just nip that maybe we should nip the fears in the bud like be very clear like this is what we have always believed this is who we are and this is how we're enforcing these which seems like what these gentlemen are looking for which then is also kind of a resolution just declaring we are a Safe Haven District because we always have been well I want to ask the question but I apologize I want to ask the question and maybe I missed this um and I I'm sure I missed this I'm sure somebody said
why we are doing this right at this time I mean I know everything that's going on but to hear like from the people who put it together someone why are we doing it because if we can explain it then maybe that'll help as well like why you may be able to that might be the wording I don't know that we put it anybody else want to talk on it I think I think it's just um it's it's um a a gesture in in in the right scope of things like I we want to um we want to support all of our students and staff and parents and families and I think it just goes another step to having people feel included in things um because uh they you know it's it's a Scary World out
there you know and if you have something like this that's behind our staff our our our administrators our staff um and the kids see that behind them like they they just feel more confident they feel like they have an extra uh sense of security with feeling safe sending their kids to school you know just how do the children see the resolution I mean that only because that's what you're saying seeing these words having them backed up is what matters yeah and I'm not disagreeing with you but we're not posting the Words Anywhere so I think it's the actions that we're looking for right which is what I think it's the talking about it because the biggest thing with kids or staff members right they're watching it today newspapers don't almost exist anymore because no one's
really doing that but it's about the action of talking about it the week that somebody else brought it up okay I had called Dr Cara and I said what are we doing are we are these kids like what I wanted to know what is the procedure if I showed up right I want to make sure are these kids safe yes they should be I'm like I wanted to know and right away they they they you know they don't have the right they don't have this and what is the plan cuz I mean does it directly affect my family no but I was a board member so it it affects my school board family and my school district family so I called her right away and I was concerned about like I want to know is
there our building safe for sure and she reassured me that we our meeting is an administrat we're putting together our procedures and this is and I said what is your approximate process because at the moment it was fresh right off the press and she was giving me you know a top level highlight about you know of what the procedures were to me that was good they were already on top of it and at this point I think just talking about it and is the reassurance and if you send a letter home both in English and and in Spanish that's great it it should reassure everybody because social media is where it's at right it's not about it's not about reading this anymore it's about the social media presence and the constant reminder of yes we're
here for you we support you we want you we want you here well I'll say this and I I struggle to say anything about this right so I'll be honest um I was coming here to just a few minutes ago listening to MSNBC and one of the things they pointed out and that's mostly Democratic station one of the things they pointed out is how the Democrats get the message out and how archaic it is I'll be honest this is kind of similar to that there are so many other ways to get this message out still have a resolution but get the word out nobody's going to read it nobody's going to but we're going to do this sit here be proud and 40 people might 30 people might see it what whereas if we if
we really want to get the message out if we really want to let them know that they're protected then what ways do we go out and do this video do we go out and to have Administration going District administration going to the schools talking to the principles um Ann them announcing certain things in the school in the schools um not just sending stuff home but putting it on certain uh things on the website like again we go back to videos we go back to I don't know I'm not the the person who can who has those type of creative ideas but if we really want to get it out doing a resolution even if we don't do a resolution we have the policies in place and that's I think the most and then and the
same thing is what Mr G is saying send it out English and in Spanish send it both ways so that the people that it needs to go to that they get the information so they're right I mean right that's the idea I mean I know I every Sunday I get a Sunday Night Live call if we can do phone calls social media blitzes um maybe Community Pages things like that so people can actually because yeah I like the resolution like right we're doing these things right I believe in this but we need to let the people who need to know that we believe in this so I'm not opposed to the resolution as long as we're actually getting it out there so last week I had asked about that like what is our communication plan
like so that it doesn't just turn into a piece of paper you know what are we going to do with it like are how do we be proactive because we do know that people are being insecure and they want to feel safe about coming into our school buildings that it's okay for me to focus on school and I always have this thing on the on my shoulder looking behind my back wondering and parents teachers and kids want to know that so I ask again we do a resolution great I think I'm in support of it of the principle and the intent but I guess the next step is what's missing from me is the now what what do we do with it how do what how do we plan to use it how do we
plan to make our students and our school Community feel safe and secure about going to school cuz essentially all this really is is taking all of our policies and putting them in one spot and you don't we don't necessarily have to do a resolution to do that what what if we do we do I um but I think that again it's how we get it out what we do to get it out so the people versus the way that we traditionally get stuff out and that's my I have no issue with our policies that we follow the law everything that we do my concern is that it'll be misinterpreted by the good segment of the public that you know we're declaring our school district a sanctuary district and I I think it'll we have a
hard time building up kind of the public trust and getting um you know most people out there don't have a very high opinion of the school board they open up their taxes they see how much we're charging them and you know and anything that we I just feel like this will be misinterpreted and any any positive press or anything that we've done to earn their trust we just move backwards on this so and I and I so if there's better ways to communicate it and get the trust out to the folks who who need it let's let's go that route but I I just think having this resolution is a wrong way to go and and this is the last thing I've say on and it's again it's nothing against the resolution does this open
us up to have more people decide to come to our district because we said um like we're we're a sanctuary District or whatever you could I just want to we're not saying Sanctuary oh no no no Sanctuary is is a taboo word out there so whatever whatever it is okay we're we're we're safe a safe safe place does this open us up we already don't want to pay the people who do it extra money for doing it then I get more people so now what what happens then yeah and again and it's not directed towards you I mean I'm looking at you because you're there but it's not I want you to think like no not at all not at all it's just the thought no I'm I'm here representing the board in the community
go ahead J is there a way to add a resources tab on like the website or um through uh any one of our social media channels like you can do a whole album of resources available and the the laws that we follow and be like as like an FYI here's all the information that was part of her presentation last week I know you would didn't see it but yeah but I I didn't know where we had landed with that and and instead of with just a resolution like was this all part of that resolution because a resolution to me is words and the further action is is not a resol if that makes sense well so that I mean I did watch the bo I wasn't completely out of it but I was but so
I saw it when the original action came out about ice going into different places community ities and the fear of kids being pulled out of the schools and so on and so forth Dr cines and her team put it in first gear and a second third gear and start disseminating information out to the public saying this is what we do what we're going to do not breaking any laws whatsoever to try to give some type of confidence and safety component out there to the public that hey we're going to protect you according to the rules of the law okay that we're just not going to open the doors and let people come in and take our kids and as a result you know it came to my attention about a possible resolution that other districts
are doing and Dr cogin E and Council myself we talked about it and at that point we agreed that the policies and the procedures that we have in place basically address the intent of a policy that was presented to me I sh sh that with the board I said here's the policies eal protection under the law one of the policies we have safe uh a safety component with our policies as well these are board policies yes and at that time I said let's hold a breaks no special meeting no emergency meeting is needed let's talk about it as a board which we first talked about last week no correct and and that's where I had left off with this yes so my understanding is then this resolution is just the words of so what I
think needs to happen is and if we approve this there needs to be a phase two where um some kind of video series um like a I know we've got our policy book but if somebody could like put right on on the website which policies answer these questions for people so they can see exactly what law we're already following yeah to kind of help so that was what I was missing from going past the resolution and I think again as receive and what I'm hearing too handw words like sanctuary and all that that people may perceive this as a resolution that will allow illegal migrants or immigrants however you want to say it into our school and we're protecting them and that was never an intent that's not the intent of our policies our policies
is saying we can only disseminate any information to people so on and so forth we protect our kids no matter what race color or whatever origin you are that's for all and it just so happened that over the last couple weeks the issue has been that a segment of the students here is of a certain ethnicity that they were fearing too and I said you know what if we have to provide some type of by law that's all it is to Encompass all of our board policies into one resolution personally after we thought about it talked about it I said I I personally don't see any harm than that are we talking about the messaging just to um our families that are impacted because I think I'm hearing a lot of you know we're concerned
about having this all out there because we we've got some folks in the community are we mostly concerned about the families that it's impacting that they know no I think everybody should know that we're what we're doing and why we're doing it and I I but I think the message should be too that these are protections that are provided to every student every student our district and we're not we're not doing this for one segment or for people who are feeling very un right now but you know but the real story is it is for the most part one one segment of the population of the students are being more affected than others that's just that's just the truth right I think the intention is good I just don't like the way we're doing it
yeah and I don't I don't think any amount of word smithing is probably going to change one so I don't know if we should just do an up or down vote in the spirit of being inclusive though I do think that we do have a segment of our population that's probably a little hyper about hyper sensitive AB but I don't think that it we should go down list based off of race and say oh you get the email you get the email I would say absolutely not It Go um I I would hate for us to do that and I hope that's not what we were saying remember just because we're talking about hispanic Families how do we know we don't have any polish here because I'm telling you right now I'm in the TR
and I work with them with them Eastern European people every day and they could be afraid too we don't know that because country thing not a does the resolution mention anything about ethnicity I was just saying that Mak off the question that's where I was going with that right that's why I think you're right I think everybody should get in CU then they're just letting everybody know what's going because remember kids are resilient they're amazing and when a Junior High kid or a high school kid reads it or sees it they're going to console their friend or or someone in the school because you know these kids are amazing yes every I'm telling you the kids in the district are amazing without a doubt so they will lean on each other they will support each
other I understand understand that sometimes like we talked earlier about arguments and fights and all that they're teenagers yes right and everybody handles things at different way but for the majority of 4,400 kids they are amazing they get along they don't care who they are friends with just walk in the schools and you'll see it every day and they'll support each other I agree yeah it does not it just this immigration status basically right yeah so so how do you how do you want to proceed we feel confident to vote for it or we postpone it get more our council did word Smith do put in kept us from any legal ra ramifications some gray areas that you know we had a template so to speak of another district and we were Smith it so
what the after just the words okay all right we feel good to vote yeah okay any exceptions any other exceptions everybody feel good we vote all right all right um call Mr Alber nay is an i Mr swal n miss zumers I miss wol nay Dr Hall up stain president Brown I we get one three Ty three and three uh motion did not carry okay all right all righty moving on number eight act report number B business number one can I have a motion to award and approved Creed Elementary roof roof or roof project in the amount of 2,369 45 to ridle Fort Roofing VI the national corpor corporative contract contractor network am I think that's amnia Partners to replace roof Alpha Charlie Echo Fox Ro Golf Hotel Juliet and Lima during the summer of

gone on whatever they call them still lot same for a lack of a better term you I mean you all I I call it a loot whether it's a mini lockdown Lo and and I don't like um I think we got to figure out a way and I don't know if it's possible maybe you could we can just um where we get the information before student before we start getting not student but before we start getting phone calls asking about the information you do cuz sometimes we get you do you are we get it as fast as possible you get it when I get it okay that's pretty fast the the principles we have on in our address book instant responders these School board is on it so how does it I mean so is
that via email okay cuz I'm think cuz you know we don't always check our emails like that instantly you know and then that's that's the fastest way I can get it you think that's our B I think we had go back and check our policy on superintendent board relationship and how emerging issue come comes up and how the superintendent supposed to and I'm not saying it's wrong when she says that I'm just saying that that's to be wi I says email I think text is kind of followed by email something to that a lot of it depends on the situation and I think that's before we created this instant one because before I would text yeah we talked about that we actually I think put it in our policies it's in our policy that it
should get text or communicate to us right away through email cuz that was the fastest for someone on her team in a minute whatever the response was they could click one button and shoot out the information to us right away that's the quickest now sometimes we may not be the first to know because you know these kids if something happened in the school they calling their parents up and the kids might be the first off the press to see something before it gets over to the superintendent and they're calling their parents up and parents are calling us yeah I and I get that but I'm was just trying to see if are how we do but I I guess if email and not text um then it's email yeah because if you get them like
there are certain days when you'll have a green or a yellow place and hold if someone gets hurt or something they always do that anyways but you get them we get I get them nah I'm good text yeah well that's why I'm asking it's not a you know Todd if you get a call just stall the person and check your email right there you go see ask how the weather is what I do like you know I'll call you you don't okay okay all right but go back and visit the board policy on superintended board relationship to make sure that it is in fact emails the first source of communication check that okay checks and balances all right any any other to are you I'm good sorry any other old business okay hearing none new
business okay we have no reason to go into close session can I have a motion to adjourn motion move by Dr Hall second second by Nelson all in favor say I I any n we are adjourned thank you public for joining us thank you for all that's here today have a great evening be safe stay warm
