This evening, we are honored to recognize several of our dedicated faculty and staff members as they retire from the South Plainfield School District. We want to celebrate and thank them for their many years of exceptional service, unwavering commitment, and lasting contribution to our students, school, and community. Throughout their careers, these remarkable educators and support professionals have worked tirelessly to ensure that our students were supported academically, socially, and emotionally. They have served not only as teachers

003and mentors, but as role models, advocates, and sources of encouragement for countless students and colleagues. The impact they have made extends far beyond the classroom and will continue to be felt for years to come. In appreciation of their service and dedication, the district has prepared a video featuring warm wishes and messages of gratitude. We wish them all a very happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement. >> Good evening. I am Dr. Mary Meliska, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and I have the pleasure of recognizing Nancy Smith, who retired from the South Plainfield School District with 25 years of service. Nancy is a Bergen County native, and it was her boss who told her about South Plainfield, a beautiful and spacious town that was far better than the congestion of Bergen County. According to Nancy, she and

004her husband Marty drove down one weekend and put a bid on a house in the Franklin section. This quick decision, which she will tell you they made without consulting anyone, was life-changing. Nancy and Marty raised three children, Ryan, Samantha, and Daniel, in their South Plainfield home, all of whom went through the South Plainfield schools. In September of 2000, when her kids were 8, 10, and 13, Nancy was hired as a duty aid at Franklin School. The following year, she was hired as a teacher's aid, and just 1 year later in 2002, she was hired as the Franklin School Secretary. During this time, Nancy was an active PTO parent, as well as one of Franklin's student council advisers. Nancy was incredibly loved by the Franklin School community, and even has a bench dedicated to her at

005the school's entrance. But in February 2016, Nancy was hired as the administrative assistant to the assistant superintendent. I came along in July of that year, and I am so fortunate Nancy was in that role. Nancy is hard working, a perfectionist in the best way, and meticulous. Nancy is quick-witted, funny, and honest. Anyone who knows her would agree about the honest part. Nancy, you did amazing things here, and you are so missed. I hope you're enjoying your retirement. All the best for a happy and healthy future. >> Good evening, everyone. This is Lisa Cook, the supervisor of transportation, and tonight I have the privilege of recognizing Susan Loikano, who was a school bus aide in the district, on her retirement. We'd like to say congratulations, and enjoy your retirement, and thank you for your dedication to

006the South Plainfield School District. >> Good evening. I'm honored to recognize two long-term educators from Franklin School, Karen Misak and Patricia Ratti. Both were born and raised in South Plainfield, chose to raise their families here, and dedicated their entire professional careers to educating the children of this community. Together, they represent over seven decades of service, commitment, and care for generations of South Plainfield students. First tonight is Mrs. Karen Misak. Tonight, we recognize Karen Misak and her 30-plus year career in education, marked by steady leadership, strong instruction, and long-standing service to the South Plainfield School District. Karen played many important roles within the school community. She was a trusted colleague, friend, and union representative who consistently advocated for both staff and students. Her leadership was grounded, thoughtful, and reliable, and she was someone others could depend

007on in all situations. Her connection to South Plainfield began early. She grew up in town, attended Kennedy School, and was active in sports at South Plainfield High School. She later raised her own family in the same community she has always called home. Karen began her teaching career at Riley School, where she taught first, second, and fourth grades. After several years in the classroom, she stepped away to focus on raising her sons. She later returned to the district, encouraged by long-time kindergarten teacher Rose Felton, and resumed her teaching career at Franklin School. She taught across more grade levels from kindergarten through fourth grade, and also worked as part of a third grade co-teaching team in an inclusion setting. Known for her creativity, organization, classroom management, and engaging instruction, she built structured classrooms where students could succeed.

008Over the years, Karen became a steady and respected presence among her colleagues and an advocate for all within the school community. Karen retired in October and is now enjoying more time with her family. She is especially looking forward to helping plan her oldest son's upcoming wedding and spending time at her retreat in Delaware. Her career reflects years of dedicated service and commitment to the students and staff of South Plainfield. Karen, thank you for your years of service and congratulations on your retirement. Mrs. Patricia Ratti. Walk into any classroom Patricia Ratti taught in, and you would immediately understand what kind of teacher she was. Her classroom was a place where children felt safe, supported, and capable of growing, not just academically, but as individuals. She brought patience, warmth, and high expectations together in a way that

009helped students believe in themselves. After growing up here in South Plainfield, Patty started her teaching career in 1986 as a special education teacher at the old Grant school building, followed by eight years at Franklin School, continuing that important work. Those early years reflected a hallmark of her teaching, meeting students where they were and helping them grow with patience and encouragement. She later transitioned to first grade, where she spent the majority of her career shaping some of children's earliest school experiences. For many students, she was the teacher who helped them learn to read, strengthen phonics skills, work cooperatively with others, and take pride in their accomplishments. One of Patty's greatest passions in the classroom was teaching children how to read, especially phonics. She took great joy in building that foundation, guiding students step-by-step as they developed

010confidence, fluency, and independence as young readers. Over four decades, she became known for her professionalism, kindness, and steady presence in the lives of students and families. She earned the trust of colleagues, parents, and generations of children who benefited from her care and consistency. Outside of Franklin School, Patty looks forward to retirement with the same quiet joy she brought to her classroom. She's excited to spend time with her dogs and new granddaughter, and to explore crochet, along with gardening, walking, reading, and Hallmark movies. Her legacy is measured in countless moments of encouragement, patience, and learning, especially those first steps into reading. Thank you for your years of dedication, Patty. Congratulations on an incredible career and a well-earned retirement. On behalf of the entire Franklin School community, thank you, Karen and Patty, for your unwavering commitment to

011South Plainfield, your students, colleagues, and community. We hope that you will look back on your years at Franklin with fondness. May your next chapter be filled with joy, laughter, family celebrations, relaxing days, and all the happiness you so richly deserve. In closing, we extend our deepest gratitude not only to Patty and Karen, but to all of this year's district retirees. As you begin this new chapter, we wish you good health, happiness, and fulfillment in the years ahead. Congratulations to you all. Thank you. >> Hi, I'm Kevin McCann, principal of Grant School. First, I'd like to congratulate all the retirees being honored this evening. I especially want to congratulate Sue Desmond, one of our power professionals, on her retirement. Grant School has been so fortunate to have someone as caring, dedicated, and hard working as Mrs.

012Desmond. She has made a difference in the lives of so many students and staff over the years. I will always appreciate the connections we've shared, and I feel fortunate to have known Mrs. Desmond both as a valued member of our school community and through the opportunity of teaching her sons years ago. It has been wonderful to see the lasting impact her family has made on Grant School. Mrs. Desmond, wishing you happiness, relaxation, and all the best in the next chapter. Congratulations. >> Good evening, Dr. Tansey, Dr. Meliska, members of the Board of Education, and all in attendance this evening. My name is John Piscopo, and I proudly serve as the South Plainfield High School Principal, and tonight I'm honored to recognize this year's retirees for the 2025-2026 school year. Specifically, I'll be speaking about the

013retirees from South Plainfield High School, but I would like to take this time to thank and congratulate all of this year's retirees for their years of service and the positive impact they've left on our school community and district. Our first retiree from South Plainfield High School is Ms. Kathy Dory. Mrs. Dory served as one of our long-standing duty aids at the high school, greeting students as they entered the building, providing outstanding supervision for our students in the hallways and all throughout the building, and assisting in the operation of school at any moment she could. She was literally called into a thousand different roles, especially this time of year. Uh so, she is severely missed. Mrs. Dory will always be remembered by both students and staff for her wonderful demeanor, her incredible ability to connect with

014people, and how her presence made the school not only a warmer, but safer place. I'd like to personally thank Mrs. Dory for her years of service to the school district and wish her the best as she moves on to the next phase beyond South Plainfield High School. Our next retiree is Ms. Sharon McGrath. Ms. McGrath, an SPHS alumna herself, has taught in a number of different capacities as a special education teacher here in the South Plainfield School District, but has spent a large portion of her time here at the high school. Ms. McGrath is a teacher in all aspects of her life. She has not only maximized the educational experience and opportunities of her special education population, but also inspired future educators through our Tomorrow's Teacher program at the high school. I'm positive that looking

015back on her career, she will know that she has set an outstanding legacy and impact on countless students, staff, and the community at large. Our next retiree at South Plainfield High School is Dr. Karen Wiener. I first met Dr. Wiener my senior high school when I walked into her AP biology class as a student. And like countless students that have walked in her classroom since then, I've found myself to be a better student, more prepared for college and high-level work, and have been instilled a next level of appreciation of science that has followed me throughout my life both professionally and personally. As a colleague, supervisor, and now principal working with Dr. Wiener, I've witnessed countless other students expand on that experience, and her be the driving force behind so many of our students' successes. On

016behalf of all of her students, both current and former, I want to thank Dr. Wiener for her passion, her professionalism, and her dedication to making our school a better place where we can cultivate lifelong learners like myself. Our next teacher retiree is Mr. Joe Perry. Mr. Perry is a long-standing member of our science department here at South Plainfield High School, working with a number of students in capacities and subjects, most recently working with students in biology as well as our anatomy and physiology elective, which is really really popular. He's really grown that program incredibly well. This has provided key exposure to subject matter that has inspired countless students to explore careers and further their studies in science and the medical profession. Mr. Perry will be remembered fondly by his staff and students for his professionalism,

017warmth, and ability connect with people. I want to thank Mr. Perry for being the outstanding staff member and the person he is, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with him. I'd like to wish Mr. Perry the best as he moves forward in his next step uh beyond South Plainfield. Our final retiree from South Plainfield High School is Mrs. uh Gail Petricko. Mrs. Petricko has served a number of roles while in the South Plainfield School District, most in a number different schools. Mrs. Petricko most recently has been working as a speech therapist, working with that caseload in the high school as well as other schools. It's always great when we see Mrs. Petricko come in and working really well with our students and our staff. She's made some outstanding strides with students working for

018them to overcome issues, and they leave her always more equipped to take on the world, achieve their goals. And I think that's a real testament to the legacy that Mrs. Petricko has had with a number of her students, the ability that she's had to work with them and make them more successful in all aspects academically and and in life. So, I'd like to thank Mrs. Petricko for her again, her professionalism, her expertise, lending that to the South Plainfield School District, and the outstanding effort she put in in helping our students, and the positive impact that she's had on their development. In closing, thank you to all of our retirees for your years of service and impact on our school, students, and community. As you move forward to your next phase, know that you leave a

019lasting legacy within our school system, and on behalf of everyone uh students former, current, and future, thank you for what you you have done for the school system, and I wish you all the luck as you move forward. Have a great night, everyone, and go Tigers. >> Good evening, everyone. My name is Dr. Haydock. Thank you for this opportunity, members of the Board of Education, Dr. Tansey, Dr. Maliska, uh for recognizing our retirees uh this evening. Congratulations to all the retirees. At Kennedy School, we have uh two retirees uh that are finishing up their career here in South Plainfield and we've been very lucky for the past 25 years to have both of them. So first let me start with one of our instructional aids that are will be leaving Kennedy School very shortly. Her

020name is Grace Campisano. We've been very fortunate to have Grace not only at Kennedy School but across the school district for the past 25 years. Grace is very patient, very kind. Her students are going to really miss her. She works with our special education population, students that receive special education services. That's where her love and passion has been. We've been very lucky to have her and we wish her lots of luck as she continues her retirement very shortly that she's certainly looking forward to. Also we have Ann Brown or you may know her as Ann Johnson throughout her career. Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Brown has been our reading specialist in in South Plainfield for the past 25 years and she retired early this school year but we certainly want to remember her tonight for all the

021accomplishments that she's had teaching our students reading strategies. She's a reading specialist and she worked with some of the students that struggle the most in one of the most difficult subjects in elementary school which is reading. So she did some targeted instruction for us. She was a mentor to other teachers, taught them Fountas and Pinnell running record strategies and we certainly miss her here at Kennedy School and our district was fortunate to have her for over 25 years working with our kids to increase the reading scores and also help the kids understand that reading is so important to their life each and every day. So thank you Ann and thank you Grace and thank you to all of our retirees this evening being recognized. We're very fortunate in South Plainfield to have very dedicated staff.

022I know at Kennedy School we lost two of our most incredible staff members this year to retirement and it's going to be hard to replace them, but enjoy the evening everybody and stay safe and have a great summer everybody. >> Good evening. My name is Shanti Murray and I'm the principal of South Plainfield Middle School. Tonight, I would like to recognize three remarkable women who are retiring this year after dedicating so many years of service to our district and to our students. Marilyn Carney has spent an incredible five decades teaching science at the middle school. Her impact on generations of students is truly immeasurable and her passion for teaching has left a lasting legacy for so many students setting up a foundation and love of science. Eileen Stillakis has dedicated her career to supporting students

023as a special education teacher. When I first met Eileen, she was working with the younger students at Riley School helping them grow with her patience and dedication and I was fortunate enough to be her principal at the middle school when she ended her career this year. Emily Bashara has inspired our students through her work as an honor science teacher always holding our students to a very high standard. As she begins this exciting new chapter, the timing could not be more perfect with the arrival of her granddaughter. On behalf of the middle school community, we thank Marilyn, Eileen, and Emily for their years of service and commitment and we wish them happiness, good health, and many wonderful adventures in retirement. Congratulations and best wishes to all three of you. >> Hello everyone. I have the distinct

024pleasure of providing some information about one of our upcoming retirees, Margaret Sellentano. Today, we will be celebrating her extraordinary career as an educator, colleague, and friend as she begins this very well-earned retirement after an incredible 38-year career in education. Margaret began teaching in 1988 right out of college, starting as a special ed teacher at Grant School before moving to the high school level in 1994. She joined Roosevelt Elementary School where she would go on to leave a very lasting impact on generations of students and families. Over the years, she taught fifth, fourth, third, and second grade, but it was in the third grade where she spent roughly 25 years that she truly became a Roosevelt Elementary School institution. Beyond the classroom, Margaret has been a tireless advocate for her colleagues, serving as building union representative

025for an incredible 27 years. She has always been the person people turn to for answers, guidance, and support. As one colleague shared, Margaret is truly that go-to person for just about everything. Her colleagues describe her as a dedicated, caring, generous, kind, and fun individual. One colleague called her the leader of the third grade team and simply the goat. Another shared that working alongside Margaret has been a true gift and that the next third grade teacher will have some very big shoes to fill. Another colleague reminded us that Margaret's students adore her and that she has inspired countless teachers and staff members throughout her career. Roosevelt Elementary School has been a special place for Margaret's family as well, where her own children walked these halls as students. Whether she was teaching, mentoring, advocating, cheering for her

026favorite team the Yankees, rooting for Seton Hall basketball, simply listening to Bruce Springsteen, Margaret brought a passion, a commitment, and a heart to everything she did. Margaret, thank you for the lives you've touched, the students you've inspired, and the example that you set for all of us. Your legacy will continue long after today. I congratulate you on behalf of our entire Roosevelt community on your retirement. We wish you happiness, relaxation, and many exciting adventures in the years ahead. Margaret, you will be deeply missed. >> We are fortunate to have a uh few of our wonderful retirees here with us this evening. So, we're going to ask you to come up as I call your name. Give you a beautiful souvenir. I'm first going to ask from the high school, Sharon McGrath and Joe Perry to

027COME I LIKE TO ASK I THINK IT'S SOLAKIS TO COME ON. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. >> Hey stranger. From my first day here with the list of names, I have loved his name. This is Patty Raddy. >> Last but not least I'm going to ask all of the retirees if you're just going to go to the other side so that we can take a quick picture and then it's wonderful how many colleagues came here to wish you well. So, I'm going to ask your colleagues to then also join us for a picture. Our next presentation this evening is from our student representative. Mr. Bowler? >> Yes. >> Mr. Escobar? >> Yes. >> Ms. Miller? >> Yes. >> Mr. Bender? >> Yes. >> Ms. Benitez? >> Yes. >> Mr. Sasseville? >> Yes. >> Ms. Williams? >> Yes. >> Mr. Giannakis? >> Yes. >> Mr. Ganas? >> Yes. >> Any public comments on any matter? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Please go to the podium and state your name and address. >> It's my turn now? >> Yes. Just hit the button. >> And it'll turn the light up the bottom at the bottom. >> Good evening, members of the board. My name is Anna Rivera. I reside in the 300 block of Panther Ave in South Plainfield, New Jersey. And today I'm speaking tonight on behalf of families of our preschool community. And

043I like to start our time by officially submitting signatures of over 300 South Plainfield residents. We gathered these signatures because this community overwhelmingly supported the standard of excellence, open communication, and civility that the preschool principal brought to our school. Many of us viewed him as a highly respected leader who was visible, approachable, and deeply committed to our students and staff. When a leader with this level of community backing is removed without warning or input from the parents, it understandably leaves the community feeling unheard. We are submitting these signatures tonight as a testament to his leadership and as an earnest request that this board consider updating its process to better partner with its stakeholders. When families feel uninformed, speculation fills the void. The sudden nature of his non-renewal has left parents deeply confused and has impacted

044the trust between families and the district. Our hope tonight is to open a dialogue and possibly discussion of new procedures to ensure that major decisions like this are communicated more clearly in the future. Thank you. >> Thank you. Anybody else? >> When I submit, who do I give it to? >> Board secretary. >> Uh good evening, everybody. My name is Good evening, everybody. Um my name is Lydia Diaz. I reside at um South Plainfield Street, South Plainfield. Um I want to follow up on the previous speaker and we want to touch on how this community learned about the change in the leadership at our preschool. Um we understand that there'll be a new principal hired. Um, and we're absolutely committed to welcoming her to them. Um, however, the fact that uh parents had to find

045out about this change um by searching through the previous uh May 6th meeting minutes and community rumors, while the district posted the May 6th uh the job publicly on May 7th, um it felt like a missed opportunity for open communication. Um, transparency really matters to us and while we completely understand that personnel confidentiality must be respected, um we feel that parents deserve as much communication as possible when we hear leadership changes that affect um our children's daily lives. Um, moving forward, we respectfully ask for a small change um to how these transitions are communicated. Um, we ask that the district's office standard practice of officially notifying the parents and staff um of a leadership change before the position is posted publicly. Um, hearing it directly from the superintendent goes first um first goes a long

046way in building trust and preventing unnecessary speculation. Um, thank you. >> Thank you. Anyone else? >> Good evening, everyone. Good evening, Mr. Paladino Bank. And just to continue on um what these other mothers have said, um because of the this current hiring process moving so quickly, we want to use this moment to advocate for a more collaborative approach for any future leadership changes uh in the district. We strongly encourage the board to consider adding a parent representative uh to the interview committee for future administrative searches. This is an established best practice in education and one of the most transparent ways ways to build trust with the community. Um it is our understanding that for instance um there are currently currently high school in New Jersey, Pascack Hills, where the superintendent announced a search for a

047new principal and explicitly highlighted their plans for community involvement. Also, the Morris School District regularly utilizes an interview committee consisting specifically of parents, teachers, and administrators for their elementary school principal searches. Um additionally, it's it's uh we believe it is our understanding uh that there is recognized search firms that operate right here in New Jersey, where they explicitly build their processes around stake- stakeholder groups, where they invite parents to interview candidates and provide direct feedback to the board. And we would love to see South Plainfield adopt a similar uh similar models so parents can have a seat at the table in the future. And just for my own uh as a person that I'm here and to see in a student representative, I think I'm very very happy to see someone here representing the students,

048and I think you would go a long way to perhaps uh open the conversation to allow a parent representative or parents to be part of the board as well. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. Uh hi, my name is Chelsea Bonfiglio. Uh I live on Willow Road, South Plainfield. Um I'm also a teacher in Edison Township for 21 years. I teach fourth grade. Um just personally, I've had nothing but positive experiences with the current uh preschool principal. Um the professionalism that has been um utilized and presented was commendable in my opinion, especially with my more than two decades of experience in the education system. Um but I want to bring this back to the students and what comes next. Um going into this fall, our school will be welcoming its third principal in just

0494 years. Uh we know that our students are only in this building for pre-K 3 and pre-K 4, but because our children cycle through every 2 years, the burden of stability rests entirely on staff and the administration. When teachers, specialists, and support staff are constantly adjusting to a new principal, policies, and leadership styles, that administrative whiplash trickles directly down into the classrooms and their possessions. For a short-term program to be successful, the foundation has to be rock solid. Families and staff have to come to expect have come to expect the amazing collaboration this preschool provides, and we cannot afford to lose our institutional memory every time leadership changes. To ensure a smooth handoff and protect that foundation, we have a few final requests regarding continuity. Uh first and foremost, we ask that the district publicly

050release a formalized transition plan before the new school year starts. Uh second, we would love to help organize a parent-led meet and greet with the new principal over the summer. And we ask for your assurance tonight that the specialized programs that make this school special, including the Adopt-a-Vet Teddy Tigers, monthly newsletters, and field day, will be preserved and supported by the incoming administration. Um I also personally really hope that the new principal will be as present as the current principal. Even at preschool prom last week, the principal who is currently there showed up with a smile on his face knowing that he wasn't going to be continuing next year um because he puts his students first. Uh our children rely on the adults in the building to provide a stable, positive environment. We look forward

051to working together to make sure our staff and our new administration have the consistency that we need to succeed. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Hello. Uh my name is Ruth Pacheco. I reside on West 8th Street in South Plainfield. Uh so to wrap up our group's comments tonight, I want to leave the board with one final thought. on those 300 signatures of South Plainfield residents and overall 513 signatures of people who have heard about the current principal's non-renewal. And you know, they were moved by this principal and everything that he does in our community and for our students. Uh so, the ones that we submitted are only of South Plainfield residents. Um but it's easy to look at a petition and see it simply as a complaint. But we hope that you look at

052those signatures and see something else. An incredibly engaged, passionate, and organized group of parents who care deeply about the success of our schools. Uh you have a community here that is paying attention. We want to be involved. And that's a massive asset for the district. We know that the decision regarding the current principal has been made. And as a community, we're fully prepared to welcome and support our new principal. We want them to succeed because if they succeed, our our school and our children succeed. But true success requires trust and partnership. Our request tonight is that we have better communication, transparency, a parent representative on future and hiring committees, a clear transition plan. We're simply asking you to treat us like partners that we are. We are your stakeholders. Um we're here tonight because we

053care about the future of this preschool. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and work with you and the new administration to ensure a smooth and positive transition for our staff and our kids. And we look forward to seeing how the board incorporates our feedback moving forward. Um and again, you know, I just want to reiterate that the current principal was really involved. And we hope that the same energy and the same involvement is um um, over with whoever it is that you guys think should replace him, but um, I think I speak for every parent that attends Riley Preschool and uh, and Roosevelt Preschool that the current principal was, uh, has left an enormous shoes to fill and it's hard to fill those shoes, but we're hoping that together we can work as

054a team and have a uh, positive impact moving forward with how these decisions are. Thank you. >> Thank you. Anybody else? Sign up for the member comments. >> Mr. Nolan. >> Keep talking. >> The only >> I just want to thank everybody for speaking and the board has, well, heard your comments and we'll talk about it, but we can't have a public response, obviously, for a number of reasons. So, um, when something's ready to become communicable, we'll get back to you. So, I appreciate that. Okay. Any more member comments? Mr. Nolan. >> This past weekend, we sent 13 athletes down to TCNJ to compete in the Special Olympics. They walked away with 13 gold medals, seven silver, four bronze, a fourth place and two fifth places. Coaches stressed that throughout the weekend, sportsmanship, teamwork, positive

055attitudes were more than present. So, that concludes the Special Olympics, uh, summer season for that. Thank you. >> Great job. Anybody else? Mr. Nolan. >> I just want to thank the I just want to thank the entire staff for a successful 2025-26 school year. We greatly appreciate your dedication and all you do for the children of South Plainfield. We have the best staff and our district wouldn't be what it is without all of you. Enjoy your summer. Um, I also want to say I attended the high school scholarship program last Tuesday. It was incredible to see all of our local organizations, individuals, and others who provided our seniors with scholarships to assist them with their educational pursuits. Thank you to everyone who provided scholarships. There were 119 scholarships awarded for a total of $115,000 to

056our seniors. Um also, our day of service was once again inspirational and successful as our students and staff raised money through various fundraisers, all of which was donated to various charities of the individual schools' choice. I want to thank Dr. Maureen Tansey again for her insightful and imaginative ideas she had 4 years ago to implement this day and all of the hard work she did to implement it and execute it. I want to thank everyone involved who helped make this event a success. You helped to instill in our students what it means to give back and help others. I just want to say congratulations to our eighth graders on your upcoming middle school promotion. I hope you get involved and take advantage of all that high school has to offer in the way of academics,

057art, athletics, and extracurricular activities. The next 4 years will fly by quickly, so enjoy these last 4 years as a South Plainfield student. And then lastly for the seniors, my heartfelt congratulations to the upcoming South Plainfield High School 2026 graduates. You all have the talents and abilities to make this world a better place. Believe in yourselves, be proud of all you've accomplished over the last 4 years. Remember to make the next chapter of your life count and follow your hopes and dreams. I wish you much happiness, success, and in your future endeavors. Remember you will always have a home here in the South Plainfield School District. And I just hope everyone has an enjoyable, fun, and relaxing summer. >> Thank you, Sharon. Anybody else? >> You got it. >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It's your

058turn. >> I'm talking to the back. >> Joe's head was in the way. >> Is it time? >> So So all of our graduating seniors, uh Uh, congratulations. Um a few more days left. To everyone moving, uh, all of our continuing students, keep up the great work. Uh, Nelson Mandela says, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." So, keep leaning into your education, no matter what level you're at. Um, also have an enjoyable summer, uh, a safe and enjoyable summer to our students, to our staff. Uh, as Sharon said, thank to our staff that have made this an incredible school year to all of our students. Then lastly, I want to wish everyone a happy Friday. >> Any emails? All right. At this time, we will go into

059executive session. I have discussed student-related matters and some legal action. Action will be taken, uh, when we reconvene. All in favor? >> Aye. >> All right, back that out. >> Probably about that. >> Did she say now, but the Nixon round and out has to be there. I'll call the meeting back to order. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Melendez. >> Mr. Botto. >> Present. >> Mr. Espinal. >> Present. >> Mrs. Miller. >> Present. >> Mr. Pender. >> Present. >> Mr. Benitez. Here. Mr. Sesselberg. >> Here. >> Mr. Williams. >> Present. >> Mr. Giannakis. >> Here. >> Mr. Garcia. >> Here. >> All right. I got three resolutions to read. I'm just going to read them all in a row and then we can vote on them. Okay? We will vote to add them to the

060agenda because that's what we do and then we will um, then vote on them. So, I'm just going to read my three all at once. First one says, "Resolved after consideration of the parents' appeal and the information provided during executive session this evening, that the board affirms the finding of HIB in case incident numbers SPM, and 306099 SPM, 316-2026 because all the statutory requirements for necessary for a funding HIV have been met. And be it further resolved that the parents have been provided with a written decision along with information on the right to appeal to the Commissioner of Education. That's one. Next one says, "Whereas the parents of the alleged offender filed an appeal of the administration's determination HIV case number 3-05279 KES 304-2026. And whereas the parent and the parent's attorney presented their extensive

061arguments in support of their appeal in closed session at the board meeting tonight. And whereas the board has carefully considered and deliberated on those arguments along with the administration's findings and other evidence and concludes that the evidence supports the finding of HIV as defined by policy and law. Be it resolved the board affirms the findings of HIV in the referenced case. And be it further resolved the superintendent and board secretary instructed to provide family with a written decision along with information on their right to appeal." The next one is a res- a residence resolution. "Whereas a residency hearing was held this evening in executive session for student numbers 2021-0158, 2024-2292, 2021-0157, 2026-3117, and 2026-3118. Whereas the parent and guardian did not attend despite being apprised of their right to do so. And whereas based on

062the results of the hearings the board finds that the students are not domiciled in South Plainfield and are not entitled to attend the school in the district because proof of residence in the district had been provided. Now be it resolved that the board hereby disenrolls the above referenced students and assesses tuition for the period of ineligible attendance and directs the superintendent to notify the families of the decision. So all three of those would be added. Thank you. >> All right. And then roll call to add the resolutions. >> I make a motion. >> So moved. I make a motion. I make a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Roll call votes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Esposito? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller? >> Yes. >> Mr. Pender? >> Yes. >> Mr.

063Finizio? >> Yes. >> Mr. Cesselberry? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Williams? >> Yes. >> Mr. Junakis? >> Yes. >> Mr. Cassio? >> Yes. >> All right. Now, I need a motion to vote to affirm all said resolutions. >> So moved. >> Any discussion? Roll call, please. >> Mr. Boat? >> Yes. >> Mr. Esposito? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Miller? >> Yes. >> Mr. Pender? >> Yes. >> Mr. Finizio? >> Yes. >> Mr. Cesselberry? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Williams? >> Yes. >> Mr. Junakis? >> Yes. >> Mr. Cassio? >> Yes. >> Can I get a motion to adjourn? >> So moved. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> Meeting adjourned. >> Good night.
