We were excited also to have many of our students attend the H.B.CU CU college fair this past month where 10 of our students were accepted for instant decisions. Here's cool kids club visited grand school on Tuesday, December 2nd to present a lesson to the sixth graders on the main topic of resilience. On December 11th, the MAT team had

014170 students from 17 different schools all over Central Jersey attend the Central Jersey Mathle event at SPHS last week. The team is led by Captain Shay Shaw and they finished 12th out of 17 against some very tough competition. Team members did a great job hosting the event for such a large group of students. 017team performed one of their routines throughout the rally. Also, the band was in attendance performing and captains from the fall sports came up and honored the seniors of their sports and different athletes of of the athletes in the sports. The event went very well and smoothly and was a fun event for the students to participate in a great way to wrap up the fall season. I appreciate all of your time and thank you for this opportunity to inform you about the achievements and events here at the high school over the past month. Thank you. [applause] Thank you. Great job as always. Um, as Brody has already mentioned to you, uh, as a reminder to our families, students have a half day schedule on December 23rd and we're closed from December 24th until January 2nd and

018the district will reopen back from break on Monday, January 5th for a full day of school. So, just one more time, there's a half day on the 23rd. During the month of November, the district offered students the opportunity to enjoy free breakfast in all of our schools. As a result, 15,895 students participated in the free breakfast program. That's 3,755 student increase over the prior months. Over the prior month, one important factor to note is not only did the students who are fully paid increase, so did the number of students eligible for free breakfast also increase. Starting the day off with a healthy and nutritious uh breakfast is very important, and we realize students don't always come to school with a full belly. This could be for many reasons from economic hardships to just running late

019and not having time to grab something. And if they do, we know it's usually not the healthiest choice. Our district participates in the federal meals program and as a result, we are able to receive a portion of the breakfast program cost reimbured. This opens the door for further discussion regarding the breakfast program and the ability to offer free breakfast to all our district students for the remainder of the year. I'm going to pass this over to Mr. Casc. Thank you, doctor. As Dr. Tany mentioned, the district offered free breakfast to all students during the month of November, and the increase was substantial substantial. It is important to note that there's a cost to the district. However, we want to explore the option of offering free breakfast to our students utilizing the reimbursement to offset some

020of the cost. for the board and the public to fully understand. I want to provide you with some information as to why only breakfast and not lunch is being considered free from the district, which believe me is something we fully support if it was possible and maybe someday it will be as a district participating in federal meals program. Each meal is assigned reimbursement figure. In this case, the district was reimbursed by the government for free breakfast served. As you were informed earlier, more than free reduced student participated in free breakfast program last month, allowing for an increase in our reimbursement from the government. This increase will offset some of the cost to the district for the breakfast served. We can't be sure how many students will participate, but we know for participation last month as

021well as last year when we offered the free breakfast for a period, more students arrived early to school and participated in the program. In the end, district may experience a loss. However, it will be minimal and all the students will be fed a healthy breakfast. It should also be noted that we have an outstanding meals balance annually that results in a loss far greater than any amount from a free breakfast program. We want to be clear this is only an option now for breakfast as the formula is very formula is very different for breakfast as compared to lunch reimbursement and it is not possible for us to consider a free lunch option currently. We encourage our residents to complete a free and reduced meal application as the meal program in the district goes hand in

022hand in providing healthy breakfast and lunch to our students prek through 12. At this time I'd like to make a motion uh to extend the free breakfast for remainder of the 202526 school year. >> So move second. >> Any discussion? Can we add that to the uh >> you made the motion? So it's it's made. >> Okay. Very good. Where are we at? >> On that. >> This is just get back. >> Okay. >> Mr. Both. >> Yes. >> Mr. Espen. >> Yes. >> Mr. Jakis. Yes. >> Mrs. Miller. Yes. >> Mr. Pender. Yes. >> Mr. Peny. Yes. >> Mr. Cesleberg. Yes. Mr. Chapman. >> Mr. Casio. >> Yes. All right. At this point, we want to make a presentation with Mr. Chapman for his years of service. Please come to the podium. [clears throat]

023Very good. >> Yeah. >> Oh, thanks, Tommy. [laughter] >> In appreciation of able and conscientious leadership to the children of the school school district. As a member of the South Plain Board of Education, I like to present this plaque to Mr. Chapman. Second round. >> All right. >> Thank you, Tommy. I'll have to say my remarks over. All right, moving on. Any public comments on the agenda items only? >> And we skip to board member comments and presentations. >> Yeah. Thank you. Uh great job at music students tonight. Um thank you Brody for the high school update. And Doug, real quick, thanks for your work with the board. You were helpful in using our funds responsibly and saved us a bit of money at times and helped in many other ways while you were a

024member of the board. And um thank you and keep in touch. >> I just want to thank our jazz band and chorus for that wonderful performance. They always put us in the holiday spirit and this is one of the best meetings we have all year. Thank you Roie for providing us with high school update. It was very informative. We appreciate you letting us know everything that's going on around the high school and you did a great job. Um, Doug, thank you for all you've done for the children of South Planefield, but somehow I think you'll be back sooner than you realize. So, [laughter] >> Jimmy, >> yeah, I mean, the band and they all just knocked it out. These kids, I'm still trying to figure out how to coordinate that whole clapping thing. That was

025really pretty. You're right. Um, they're great, Brody. Great job. Very well composed. Very well done. Great job, Doug. I don't think people actually realize the impact of our finance committee specifically that you have in this district and and I can't begin to tell you how greatly that will be missed. What you bring to the table is more than just the average person brings. Your knowledge and your common sense really goes a long way. And I I can't tell you how much I appreciate and I know that this whole district has benefited from you being here. and it's a big loss. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Anything else, Mr. J? >> I'm going to save my other remarks for the end of the meeting, but I just want to uh Brody, every time you come

026up here, you are awesome. You get better and better every single time. Um, I don't know if you understand, but you're relaxed up there. It's not easy to do. You can see you watch your shoulders are relaxed, your face is relaxed. you're very confident in what you're doing and you know I definitely think that some sort of public speaking or communications or something may definitely be in your future. You you'll certainly excel at it if that is an option for you. So great job as always. Proud of you man. Uh the uh the band and choir I thought they were here for me time [laughter] when you said that uh you know that they come every year >> but for you but they come for you every year. >> Great job by the band. Thanks.

027Mr. [clears throat] Cass. >> Yes. >> Doug, I just wanted to say thank you for the many years of dedication that you've given to the students in the South Planefield School District. Um to the support you've given the teachers, the administration, and to me personally and professionally. I've learned so much from you and I plan to take it with me moving forward. Um you have been an asset to the school district more than you will ever know and I'm happy to call you a friend. you will definitely be missed. And luckily for you, I still have your number and I intend to use it. >> Thanks, Bill. >> Brody, great job as usual. Um, Dan and Fire were awesome like they always were. Doug, thanks. Uh, you know, what Jimmy said is true. People really

028don't realize how much you do and how much impact you have on the district. And I think that what we really don't know is that every time we look at anything in finance or whatever as far as trying to make a budget and trying to and we have to make cuts or whatever, one thing you always say is we don't touch staff, kids, programs. And um I don't think they they they really realize that you know and and and another thing that's that that that's you know um Nice said you can call a friend and I consider you a friend also and you know people you know nowadays you can't you can't disagree with anybody they they'll hate you they'll they'll twist it they'll whatever but one thing we always do know if we disagree

029we disagree you know but we still walk away as friends or whatever and you know and uh everybody has an opinion and you're willing to listen to everybody. Got to miss you and uh I agree with Sharon and I'll see you next year. [laughter] >> Well said. Thanks, Peter. >> Thank you. >> Anybody else? >> All right, moving along. Resolution to approve prior board minutes. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. B. Air Forum. >> Mr. Esp. >> Yes. >> Mr. Jakus. >> Unfortunately, I was I was out last meeting, too, so I was >> Mrs. Miller. >> Yes. Uh first condolences to the family and friends of uh Joe Bondo, teacher of the middle school, and the passing of his mother. And uh one

032thing that we heard not only with these the music students tonight, the Broers report throughout the school district that a lot of the students represent, they go outside the school district and represent South Plainfield schools, whether it be math competition, athletic competition, uh concerts, uh model UN, anything like that. And it it's really a testament to the quality of our students and our teaching and our district that um the skills and talents of our students represent us well in all these events and happy holidays all see you next year. >> Okay. Yeah, forgive me. I wasn't here last month. So, I just wanted to congratulate uh our board members Tom and Bill for winning and congratulate our new board member there Williams. Look forward to working with her and uh happy holidays, healthy, happy, safe

033holidays. Whatever you celebrate, enjoy shar um first of all, I just want to give a very special congratulations to Marilyn Carney on your retirement. Marilyn is one of our employees who has the greatest length of service with our district with 48 years. She started on September 1st, 1977. >> 10, would you? >> Yeah, probably. Yeah, she has to be in the top three. We're so grateful and thank you for your remarkable number of years of service to our district. You've been an amazing middle school science teacher. Your students have learned so much from you and gained a love of science. Your dedication, hard work, and mentorship to the children of style playing field is to be commended. As you begin the next chapter of your life, I hope you have an enjoyable, fun, relaxing, and

034healthy retirement. You truly deserve it, and she will certainly be missed. Um, Moroc, thank you for all you've done for our district. Best of luck and congratulations on your new position. Just want to wish everybody a happy holiday, a merry Christmas, and also a happy and healthy new year. >> Thank you. Be remissed without saying

035this. Mr. Wings, great job in that snow the other day. School open. I'm not kidding. I I I deal with schools, one of them closed, three of them had delays, and we were perfect. Right on spot. I was going to wait till next month because you're coming to reorg, but best of luck to you, man. You're going to be missed. I I said to you before, it's like you're always here. Thank you, >> Mr. Chapman. All right. So, uh thank you very much for the plaque. I appreciate it. Um I want to thank everybody for uh uh everything that we've accomplished over the last basically decade uh that I've been on the board. we've really done some great things in the school district and we've accomplished a lot together, a lot of us the the

036entire period of time. So, um you know, the strides we've made in the school, I could sit here and it would take an hour to list everything that we've accomplished in the last 10 years. Um but thank you to to everybody in particular. Uh thank you to Norine for your leadership in this district. You brought stability to the district. I mean, before I got on the board, I don't think that we had a superintendent that was here for more than two years for the previous decade if I'm not mistaken. So, thank you for the uh stability that you bring to the district and for um uh for everything that you do for the students. I don't think that you know people say that you don't appreciate or or people don't aren't aware to appreciate what

037you actually do. Uh you know, the biggest thing that sticks out to me is when you had your health challenge and nobody would have ever known it. Uh you missed two days, I think one or maybe one and a half days, whatever it was. So, uh thank you for everything you do. Mary's not here tonight, but I want to thank Mary for everything she does. She works hard as well. Uh very dedicated and cares about the students a lot. Uh has taught me a lot about curriculum and stuff of that nature. So I appreciate it. Alex, great job in the uh in the business office. Um uh I know that we've got uh another um a lawyer report coming up here that's um from what I understand going to be uh stellar again. So, >>

038thanks for all the work that uh that you done that you have done and and continue to do for the district. Morat, same over there to you. Business office wouldn't be smooth running smoothly uh without you. It's going to, you know, it's going to be different not having you here, but you are invaluable to the district. I wish you all the best of luck, the best for you and your family. Great move going forward. Uh I'd be remiss if I didn't thank Jim Demano. So, Jim's not here, but I would be very remiss if I did not. Um, when I came on to the board, I didn't really have a clear understanding about how things worked in the uh in the uh public school districts. And Mr. Espman's kind of learning the hard way that

039I learned along the way there, too. Uh, but Jim was uh a ball of wisdom and taught me so many things and, you know, I couldn't I can't be, you know, grateful enough to Jim for everything that that, you know, we we did some great work together, too. We really did, especially with that referendum. Um Carl Sporker. I want to thank Carl for uh you know heading up the the you know the teachers association and being uh a breath of fresh air when he took over the uh the association for sure. Uh we have a great relationship with the uh with the SBA now. Uh it's very nice to not have somebody who always just wants to fight and bicker and argue and yell and somebody just wants to sit down and get things done.

040So, that's a a a nice nice uh uh breath of fresh air when Carl took over and he's always been a pleasure to work with. Uh Kevin Haidok with the principles. Want to let everybody know very happy to uh to announce that we have reached a memorandum of agreement with the principles on a new uh three-year contract. Uh the details are forthcoming um for sure. Uh Mr. Pascol was on that committee as well. It was a pleasure working with them. they uh talk about professional two meetings. I don't think that we've had a contract negotiation that's gone more than two meetings uh since uh you know since we started the uh a different approach to negotiation. So it's been great. Um I want to thank all the principles in the entire district and the vice

041principles and all the administrators for everything that they do for our students. Uh it is genuinely appreciated. You guys work really really hard. Uh same with the teachers and the paris and everybody who's involved in the district, the janitors, the maintenance, everybody who does anything around here. Um thank you for everything that you do. You know, great great job. Um will I be back? Probably not. This is probably it for me. So um you know, I uh it was uh an honor to be here. We accomplished so many great things. Some things I'm, you know, really, really proud of. And uh you know it's just my pleasure to serve on the board with most of you guys um and the whole time and some of you guys for just a short period of time. But
