001Right up there on the picture game >> yesterday. >> Oh yeah. Let me show this is you showed us. >> So basically I help sometimes with them like after school and so they were trying to like laminate um the poster and they were having like so much trouble with it. And so I was really like the first part which was supposed to be the leg of it because basically they put it in and it's like Good evening everyone. The executive session of the Wayne Board of Education regular meeting of January 22nd, 2026 was convened in the conference room of the Wayne Board of Education, 15 Ellis Drive, Wayne, New Jersey. Statement of compliance setting forth date, time, and location was read in accordance with the requirements of the open public meeting act. The meeting was
002recessed and now being rec reconvened. Roll call. >> Mr. Agnes >> here. >> Mr. Eloquin >> here. >> Mr. Faber >> here. >> Mr. Haymon >> here. >> Mrs. Lamandry >> here. >> Mr. Paul >> here, >> Mr. Pavlet >> here. Please stand for the flag salute. >> Mr. Pacos >> present >> and Mr. I'm here. >> Please stand for the flag salute followed by a moment of silence. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you everyone. Please be seated. Mr. Cedino, thank you, Mr. President. I'm going to start with um we have a very special presentation today and then I will do the proclamation afterwards. But we have
003members of the Anthony Wayne Middle School House Council here today. They're here because it is National School Board's Recognition Month and they're here to recognize you as the volunteers, the unpaid volunteers uh who help and assist in directing our our schools to be successful. The house council is similar to a student council where there is an ex executive board along with representatives. Anthony Wayne executive house council consists of overall house president as well as house president and house vice president for each of the four houses. The representatives are from all grade levels and houses. The students meet once a month to help with this to help through the school day with projects events that Anthony Wayne has going on throughout the year. They were thinking it would be nice to have all house counsel create
004something to bring to the executive house council meeting nine students to attending the meeting tonight and present it to the board of education. So here with us tonight, excuse me, we have principal Courtney Courtney Dwyn, assistant principal Lisa Ernie, Mary Dudek, Deborah Mahoney, Bin Piol, and Rebecca Rush. The students with them are Anara Ahmad Mava. >> That's a good one. J Jake Jake Campbuan, Ariana Morera, Lewis Oilio, Joseph Cillo, McKenzie Mayfield, Kylie Ortiz, and Lana Rahal. Uh, and I believe they have a special presentation for our board this evening. >> Jake, stand up. Okay, >> good evening. It's a pleasure to be here with you tonight. Each year, Anthony Wayne's House Council selects a central theme to guide our efforts. And this year, we have chosen to focus on community building. Our students are committed
005to not only serving the broader community, but also expressing our sincere gratitude to those who support us. Joining me tonight are several members of our house council. We have President Lewis Cavolio. Lewis, raise your hand. Joseph Casilla, Ariana Morera, Marav Bimma, Bimma Parapu, and vice presidents Kylie Ortiz, McKenzie Mayfield, Jake Camphousen, and Lana Raal. >> Stop laughing. Our overall house council president Anara Ahmed is here as well to share further thoughts with you. Good evening everyone. My name is Anara Ahmed and I am incredibly honored to speak here this evening and to represent Anthony Wayne Middle School during school board recognition month. On behalf of the students, families, and staff of AWM, we thank you for everything you do. Much of your work happens behind the scenes, but your impact is felt every day in
006our classrooms, hallways, and even extracurriculars. As a student who has experienced education systems around the globe, I want to bring light to the fact that thanks to our B board of ed, the students of Wayne have a tremendous amount of opportunities, perks, and options that are unfortunately not available to everyone. The remarkable opportunities and chances we are constantly given because of your dedication and commitment are highly valued by my fellow students and me. You help us grow academically. You help us explore our interests and you help us feel supported. This month is a time when you can finally take a bow for everything you do to guide our schools. You have helped make our schools places where students feel safe, supported, and challenged to do their best. You listen to the community, collaborate with educators,
007and make decisions that shape not only our present, but our future as well. What I am grateful for, though there is a lot to be thankful for, is the time you put in for us. attending long meetings, making difficult choices, and always putting students first. This is just a small glimpse into your average day. Whether you are a longtime board member or a newcomer, each and every one of you plays such a vital role in creating the best learning environment possible. So, thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and helping us succeed, not just now, but for years to come. It is every single teacher's dream to see their students achieve great accomplishments. And those dreams extend to this wonderful board of education as well. To me, it's a bit shocking to think that
008even though some students may never even get to meet you, you are still shaping their future and influencing them heavily. So, I hope that you all can happily carry that pride of improving children's lives and pat yourselves on the back for everything that you do. So, on behalf of all of us here at Anthony Wayne Middle School, thank you. We truly appreciate you. Thank you everyone. On behalf of the entire board, I thank you for coming tonight. Mrs. Dune, thank you. And to your staff as well. This is first time in my 21 years that the students have ever come come to talk to us like this. It's usually not under good circumstances that they're here. But tonight, it is a pleasure and I thank you and thank all your fellow classmates as well. >>
009Thank you. Thank you, Province. Yes. >> Thank you very much. Thank you. >> Can we get a picture with them? >> If they stand in front, >> can we get a picture? >> We're going to take a 5m minute recess to go out in the hall and take a picture with you guys. Do you don't mind? >> Amazing as always. >> That was amazing. >> Like, excuse me. I want to be when I grow up. >> Who's going to be president of the universe? >> Do you want me to hold you? I >> took you to >> Anybody else agendas? >> We're all going to go after this. >> You have like amazing energy. Like you seem like such a sweet person. I'm out of here. I'm like straight here. Thank you for bringing. Thank
010you guys. Wonderful. Wonderful. I think we laid out. Let's open. Let's go this way. >> Should we open it? >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, that should be good. >> Thank you everyone. Yeah. >> Thank you. >> All right. Superintendence report. >> Put this thing in your office. >> Okay. So, that was wonderful. That was great. I'm so appreciative of our our our educators and our administrators at Anthony Wayne and the students. And I think what we're going to do is that banner, you each get it for one month and you hang it in your living room or your dining room for a month and we'll you can pass it along. Kind of like the Stanley Cup. All right. So I do want to take the time because there is a proclamation recognizing New Jersey school
011board uh recognition. So whereas New Jersey school boards association has declared January 2026 to be the school board recognition month a time when all residents can acknowledge the contributions made by local schoolboard members. And whereas the Wayne Board of Education is one of 581 local school boards in New Jersey, which sets policies and oversees operations for public school districts. And whereas the Wayne Board of Education embraces the goal of highquality education for all New Jersey public school students in Wayne. And whereas New Jerseyy's local school boards help determine the educational goals of approximately 1.4 4 million children from preK to 12th grade. And whereas New Jersey's 5,000 local schoolboard members who receive no re renumeration for their services act as advocates for public school students as they work with administrators, teachers, parents for the betterment
012of public education. And whereas school boards strive to provide uh the resources necessary to meet the needs of all students, including those with special needs. And whereas boards of education provide accountability to the public. They communicate the needs of the school district to the public. They convey the school administrators uh the public's expectations for the schools. And whereas New Jersey can take pride in its schools, which rank among the nation's best in key achievement indicators such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress scores and the preparation for college through the Advanced Placement Offerings and SAT assessments. Now therefore, be it resolved that the Wayne Board of Education does hereby recognize the services of all local schoolboard members throughout New Jersey as we join communities statewide in observing January 2026 as schoolboard recognition month. And be
013it further resolved that the Wayne Board of Education urges all New Jersey citizens to work with the local school boards of education and public school staff to provide toward the advancement of our children's education. So, thank you for all that you do and your comm commu continuous communication and advocacy for children. I do want to also update the public that on this agenda tonight is the 2026 2027 school calendar. I know a lot of people were anciently uh waiting for it to come out so they can uh plan for next year. So, that's an action item on here too. And I don't know if anyone's heard um there is a weather event happening this weekend. You can tell I always can tell when there's a weather event happening because there's no bread. You go to
014the supermarket, there's no bread and there's no milk. Um because they're afraid that we might not be able to get bread and milk for the next 30 days. So everybody goes and takes all the bread and milk and it in about two weeks it'll all be moldy in their pantries. But so there must be a weather event happening. We will keep an eye on it. I have um weather services providing me everything from 15 to 17 inches uh to nine inches including slush. So we are going to get something and we will let everybody know uh early on Sunday what Monday is going to look like. But I would say plan ahead in case there's no school on Monday. Have a backup plan in place. And I've met with our uh facilities team today to
015go over uh status plans for when we'll start uh working on our facilities and in what stages we'll have people going at it all through um Sunday and Monday. So teams will be in on Sunday um early in the morning. Teams will be in on Monday uh working working us through it. So again, stay stay close to our website, to our social media uh for updates related to the weather. Speaking of our website, I want to give a shout out to our newsletter. If you're not looking at our newsletter, you're missing some really great stuff. It really has updates about what our students are doing in schools and our staff and recognizing them. Um we wouldn't get the contributions that we get every week, and I know of no other school districts that put newsletters
016out every week. um that that comes from our educators, our administrators, our support staff, and they all work with Jen Nimttz uh in at central administration to make sure that that newsletter gets out and it's really great stuff. Um there's also a item on there for retirement. I would be remiss if I didn't just say a few words before you read it, but Patty Caviello, who is my uh secretary, uh she is on there for retirement, and I want to thank her. Um there was a lot of transition on this summer, a lot of leadership changes and um she made sure she stayed on u when she could have retired um especially when as her husband was going through some health issues. Um wanted to stay on to make sure that we had a seamless
017transition as possible and I thank her for that. I'm indebted to her and I wish her to now be able to go on and uh spend time with her husband as he's gaining his health and with her with her own children. Uh so all the best to her and I'm im immensely uh offering my gratitude to her and thankful. Yes. Um I do have one update. I just want to just check this as we go on because I know that my the board president and myself were talking about this. Um now Mr. President um PCTI was playing uh Wayne hockey tonight. I think it the county championship. I Yes. Okay. >> Um we won three-0. So, >> with our our students decided to stay home, stay with our district and stay on our team. Um,
018they beat PCTI 3 nothing and we couldn't be more proud of them. >> Just happened. So, thank you. >> Excellent. Student reps. Good evening. >> Good evening. >> You guys are up. >> Good evening. Um, so first we'd like to recognize some of the donors. First, I have Kelly Dryan Warren for a $1,200 donation of six small file cabinets, five double bookshelves, 12 desk chairs, 20 guest chairs, one love seat, and two conference room chairs. >> Okay, next up we have a donation from Maya Lozia for $250 to the Wayne Hills Theater Workshop. Thank you, Maya. Okay, now moving on to the Wayne Hills good news from this past month. I don't have much because we just got back from break, but there is still some stuff. Um, five Wayne Hills High School coral students
019were accepted into the North Jersey Regional Choir after auditioning at Clifton High School on Saturday, January 10th. These students will perform in concert on February 14th at Morris Hills High School with many other choir students from around North Jersey. Congratulations to sophomores Kayla Saturco, Simon Park, and freshman Mia Silvento and Cammy Vicaro, and senior Adriana Donardo. Now, the Stars Club met up with the boys basketball team this month, and the team led drills for the Stars club, teaching them tips on how to pass, dribble, and shoot. The basketball team was so inclusive, cheering on the Star students and ensuring they felt celebrated and included. The Stars club had such a wonderful time meeting new peers and learning new skills. Wayne Hills SDA took their annual Broadway workshop and show field trip on January 20th. The
020captains and officers of the 2026 SDA show participated in a Broadway dance workshop with a cast member of the show, The Outsiders. Cast member and professional dancer Davis Wayne instructed 30 of our dancers for a 90minute workshop and they learned one of the one of the members of the actual show. Christina Kinler, the head adviser uh for SDA reported the girls had an amazing time and loved the dance and the instructor. It was amazing seeing them learn from a professional dancer. He provided a question and answer session at the end of the workshop. And at the time that the members were able to ask questions about his at the time the members were able to ask questions about his journey as a Broadway dancer and the SDA members were able to watch him perform in
021the show that same night and everyone loved the show. But that's all for Wayne Hills. >> Okay, mine's a little bit longer so I'm sorry. January has been an exciting and productive month at Wayne Valley as students and staff kick off the new year. Wayne's Real Life for Life committee is preparing its official kickoff on February 4th where the community is invited to support the cause through raffle baskets and food sales. This event will also feature a speech from the mayor and it will take place in one of Wayne Valley's cafeterias. In academics, seniors have begun posting their college acceptances on our bulletin board and it has been amazing to see their hard work pay off. Moon Valley is incredibly proud of the class of 2026 and all their accomplishments so far. Additionally, DECA students
022recently competed in the regional competition where 150 students traveled to Ramo College and seven qualified for states. These students are now preparing for DECA states where they will represent Wayne Valley in Atlantic City for March 3rd to the 5th of 2026. The arts are also thriving this month as well. Spring musical auditions have officially taken place and excitement is already building for the upcoming production Little Shop of Horrors. The show will star Jacob Gonzalez Lopez as Seymour and Charlotte English as Audrey. The visual arts department is also hosting its annual visual art contest along with the emphasis writing contest, both centered around the genre of folklore. These contests provide students with a great opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent. Wayne Valley is also looking forward to the upcoming tech expose taking place on January
02327th at Wayne at Anthony Wayne Middle School and January 29th at George Washington Middle School. These events highlight the innovative programs that Wayne Valley has to offer for our incoming students. Winter sports are in full swing at Wayne Valley with teams across the school continuing to work hard and compete throughout the season. Bowling teams have shown steady improvement this winter while fencing has had a strong start with the girls team earning big wins against Northern Highlands and Pake Valley and the boys picking up a close victory against Pake Valley earlier this month. The ski team recently competed competed in NIS Srra races with multiple athletes turning in strong performances. Both the boys and girls swimming teams have earned key victories this season and winter track athletes continue to compete highlighted by senior Diana Sansson's gold
024medal performance at Big North Championships. Also adding in now I think as of yesterday Wayne Valley's unified basketball won the unified basketball county champs. So that's amazing. Finally, to show appreciation back in December for the amazing staff at Wayne Valley, the executive student council treated the teachers to an ice cream truck as for a small thank you for all that they do. That will be all for Wayne Valley for now. >> Thank you. >> Revisions to the agenda. Mrs. Mark >> under Q school resource legal we're going to add number four approval of settlement agreement and general release resolved that the board of education upon the recommendation of the superintendent hereby approves the settlement agreement and released in the matter of student ID 4557294286 office of administrative law docket number EDS S-04694-25 agency reference number

It's a great family. I've known them for a long time. And Patty sorely will be missed. So I'm so proud of them. Um I also um know Patty Koviello personally for many many years. Um going back to her her wonderful family. Her dad was an amazing man as well.
