001e testing testing 1 2 3 testing 1 2 3 e e e into order sure you want to make the mission statement mission statement okay we are here today for Creek mon Board of Education regular meeting for Tuesday May of 21st 2024 at 6:30 p.m. meeting has been called to order and roll call please Madam Secretary sure Mr alre here Mr gyos here M rup is here Mr swales here miss s stumbris here Dr Hall president Brown here okay let us stand for the Pledge of Allegiance L by board member Alex gagos and our mission statement read by our secretary Mrs Cheryl rup I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all and

002our mission is to empower each student to positively impact the world for a bright new future thank you both for member Mr guyos and Mrs R okay got a public comment here written and I have one that is emailed so the first one here that I have in person is end of the year close out oh by our own cmea board president Mary Brad oh good evening administrators ladies and gentlemen of the board and all of our honored guests I wanted to take this time on behalf of myself as an individual to say thank you and on behalf of the cmea association to thank you for all of your hard work dedication and commitment and for working with us collaboratively over the years um we have not always seen I Tai nor should we always

003C Tai but we've all worked together to do what is best for the children and families of this district and to make this the best district there is we have great staff great administrators and loving caring people who put our children first above them Beyond themselves all the time it's been an honor and a pleasure these past 20 years to work in this district and as my last official Duty I'd like to introduce our new cmea president Christine quinland and yes she has my number on speed dial she had this thank you all have a good night thank you wow anybody would like to comment on Mar's I would like to say something something okay sorry I'm late just but Mary um you um have done great things you have fought for your I hope

004they know how much you fight for them I hope they know how much you care for them students staff and I and I believe that you're going to be greatly missed not that the next person won't do good but you are going to be missed um I'm proud of the work you've done I know you I mean I'm sure you are but I think that at the end of the day big shoes to feel and I thank you for all the battles and even battles when I wasn't on the board and I apologize for anything I've ever done to hurt you or wrong you or in inappropriately but you've always been somebody who fought for your people and I really admire that well said Thank You D all right you were you were president when

005I came on the board in 2017 um you were always involved even when you weren't president and then you Faithfully came back again when they needed you you're here so many hours I I don't know how you do it after teaching all day and then doing all this so I admire everything you do appreciate it and I know everybody else appreciates it too so get some well-deserved rest you're here yeah thank you anybody else go somewhere fun not Chicago I'll say a few things under the superintendent update well thank you thank you board member okay I do have an email public comment and I'm going to ask one of my board members Jamie if you would like to read this I am very challenged with these small world uh words see I already said that

006okay or or Jer I'm kind of I'm like I get I get set up usually I ask for bigger font but that is really small this email is from John I hope I'm saying this right Puda PUD good afternoon I see the school board is pushing to build new schools and would like to tear down the existing schools I also see that there is a strategic plan Planning Group that has been meeting for future strategic planning per the 201u site members will meet more than one time next month to finalize analyzing critical factors such as student performance and growth educator quality Community engagement and facilities and operations questions that I would like answered does the strategic planning include discussions as who exactly will pay for any changes if implemented and what the cost would be

007does the school board try to inform the community about any legislation that is in process so that new money might be provided to the district to reduce the school taxing amount from the previous property tax bill as seen below $7,300 of our current tax bill goes toward 201u I have lived here for over 30 years and have not seen anything about legislative support other than school board question on voting ballots has the school board reached out to any of the state senators Representatives or Governor asking for specific legislation could you please provide so that I could ask our Representatives help along the same lines I see that house bill 4866 was supposed to supply more funding to some schools would this help our district were we as a community asked to contact our representatives for

008that support back in 2019 the voters rejected the referendum for a $65 million Bond did I miss something how was that new High School South wi addition paid for was bond fund was renegotiated and the line extended the cr21 portion of our property taxes have greatly increased over the years excluding the supposedly home value increasing the 2011 school taxing body in 2017 was $5,300 the 2011 school taxing body in 2023 was $ 6861 the school taxing body in 2024 was $ 77323 note that this is not our Total Property Tax Bill only the cre 2011 portion of the property tax bill back in LGC government Information Services stated that cre Illinois in Will County paid three times the national average for property taxes I understand that the state of Illinois needs to pay more towards

009education and the community should be pushing for this so our property taxes can be reduced as a school district should as a school district should be the leaders for getting the community involved in order to force our legislators to help if legislation is being introduced we could help support how about this for an ongoing student project how about weekly articles in the videt paper since it's a local paper we as taxpayers did not supply you in open checkbook in order to spend as you see fit to add facilities that we pay for with our tax and no direct engagement the 2011 U portion of the bill is excessive and completely out of line thanks John Puda thank you so much Jamie appreciate it if there's any replies to be made the superintendent would do it

010as necessary okay thank you any other public ritten comments or emails anything okay thank you thanks again again Jamie at you save my eyes all righty next up board updates any board updates okay I'm trying to solidify some dates again for a couple different things I'm talking to our iasb rep on some things not only for some training for us in July at one of our our only meeting going to have some double duties on that particular date in July so look for some updates for me coming soon hide off the press on a couple couple couple three or four things okay hopefully next day or so all right if there's no other board went to I did I did attend the distinguished Scholars uh banquet um with Lamont and um he asked me to

011speak MH and I was not prepared and uh he gave me like 10 minutes to uh prepare something but the way I when I'm at uh an event I pay attention to what's going on and so and when things were going on I should have been preparing my little speech but I didn't and so I kind of uh crashed and burned up on uh stage he said you did well I'm really glad that nobody else was there to see me we was there you just to see us yeah so uh I'm really glad that uh I got to be a part of that um it was uh a great honor uh those kids are super talented and um and they're all headed towards uh straightfor success so I was really uh proud to be there

012thank you very commendable and I can again say one thing about this board there's a lot of events going on throughout this district and and I try to make as many events as possible but when I can't make it I can rest assure that one of us as board members will try to fill the Gap so I really appreciate all you guys do really do thank you all right administrative updates superintendent I have three this evening um the first one was just to um give awareness in the community of mon in particular we are going to be having um some safety drills over at our old MEC building um we are going to be having all of our responders in all of our communities come together to practice at that building between 8:00 am and

013400 PM so the community can expect to see a lot of um First Responders out there they're going to take care of traffic controls and those things such as that um The Village has also alerted members within the community as well to alert them so they weren't uh concerned about that but we're really excited about this this is actually the focus is going to be on telecommunication the real purpose of this is to really make sure that our responders have good communication between the various agencies for example fired to police and so forth um as they prepare for this um so again it will be between 8 and 4: um if there's any member of our staff that would like to come and take a look uh we are invited to come between 1200 and

01412:30 um to take a look to see how that plays out um and then our next step in moving forward to this would be starting to do some tabletop exercises next year so we're really excited to be able to use the building one last time for uh a cause that will be helpful for um the district what day is it that is tomorrow tomorrow okay yeah um the next item I'm going to have uh Mr surma give a little bit of an update on Tiff uh I know that that's been a conversation that uh we are um anxiously awaiting for Mr serman can you give an update please I can um if you recall and this is concerns University Parks Tiff five that is dissolving at the end of this year if you recall back

015on March 26th University Park tabled a motion to dissolve that resolution uh there was a reason for that we're in agreement that that should have been done that way uh in the meantime our legal council myself and the legal council of University Park have had discussions on creating the resolution and that so that resolution has been created um we shared it with our bond councel to make sure that they are in agreement with it they added a couple things in there uh and so we're all in agreement on the resolution question is is when is that going to be passed um last week um I received a couple emails from John ISO our legal councel who's handling this uh stating that they didn't know if they could get it done on the 28th which is

016their meeting of May but for sure they'll get it done in June but then we got notification that they may be able to get it done on the 28th today I sent an email to their legal counsel John Murphy um who has said to me that he was meeting today with University Park um to see if they can get it on the agenda agenda I haven't heard yet he said he would follow up with me I haven't heard yet today if it's going to get on the agenda for the 28th or not but he has promised it will get done in June um so that is the update on it I don't know if anyone has any questions about it but just kind of give you what the update is on that's just part of

017the process because the next one is filing with the county right it is so once they approve the resolution then it'll be filed and and their their legal counsel will take care of that we've already had those conversations to so you're telling us before your last date you're going to have that resol that's what I heard you know you tried to push it you tried to push it out I didn't hear ju lie so that means you taking careas not let him get away with yeah I have been told that I won't be able to leave unless I get this taking care July 1 July two we're working hard on this and and we're working with up on this John ISO is handling in and working hard on it so that's our goal is to

018get it done um you know I would love to get it done by the 28th of May you know and that and that's again what I'm pushing for but again they have promised that they will get get it done you know in June and I'll make sure that okay these tickets that I have in my back pocket to fly overseas you and your wife they're going to remain in my back pocket till we see that okay know than say okay and I have one very last uh good news um I wanted to talk about Mary brg a little bit more so um some information I found out is uh Mary Bragg started her career different than education back then she worked in the office as a Firestone Tire and then to target as a comparison

031in I think one of the F FYI from uh ukara something about uh a conference in DC or something like that for our students yeah what can you tell me more about that like I I can tell you a little bit and then miss per can help out for the rest so um so we have educator Rising students those are students that are becoming going to uh become teachers and so forth we are we have a program at at the high school that you know supports that they go to all the events the exhibitions and so forth so um our school district was uh asked to be on um um on the panel um for the uh trip at at the DC and this is the first time ever so I asked Lamont I said

032what was the uh what was the criteria for that he says our our district has done everything uh is um going to all the exhibits doing everything they needed to do so we were asked to them presented that so we were uh really excited about that um Miss Perkins is there anything I missed that you can give more details to so our students this is the first time the state of Illinois has sent delegates asks for our students to be part across students across the nation that are going to school to be teachers and so as part of the pipeline they bring the group of students together to have conversations with their uh peers Across the Nation so they'll sit in panels five of our students um of the seven seven of them are going

033to compete and five of them will be part of this National panel to give their voice and agency about um going to school for Education this is the very first time that the state has sent any delegates to this that sounds awesome that's were there other schools from the state that represented or was it just they they did not tell us who we beat out okay but um we're we're representing the state of Illinois that is awesome wow and we also have 17 of those um young students working for us for summer school that is the most that we've been able to employ so 17 of them will be joining us for summer school and have a mentor um to help them through the summer um program that's awesome do they get paid like more

034than the board MERS they they they get paid yes even after the state of Illinois took away our funding for that we we found a way wow that's that's that is that is a very good feat yeah good question Alex thank you superintendent for sharing that and assistant superintendent for clarification okay any other old business that was that was new bus was new business that was new business any other new business okay we do have a reason to go into close session and that is the for the appointment employment compensation discipline performance or dismissal of specific employees going have a motion to do so for the reason stated oh number 11 I missed one okay also litigation litigation when an action against affecting or on behalf of the particular public body has has been filed
