And on behalf of our faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to this very special occasion, the commencement ceremony for the class of 2026. at this time, if you haven't done so already, please take your seats so we can begin. And I al also ask to please move toward the center of your row. So, aisle seats are available for guests who might be still arriving. Before we proceed, the graduating class has asked me to share just a few reminders to make sure to help to ensure a smooth and respectful ceremony for all. So again, please remain seated during the ceremony and take any photography or video from your seat. Out of respect for every graduate, we ask that you keep celebrations brief and refrain
from loud cheering during the roll call of names. Each student and their family deserves the opportunity to clearly hear their students name announced. And lastly, please silence all cell phones and electronic devices to avoid disruptions. Your cooperation is deeply appreciated by the class of 2026 and helps make this evening even more memorable for everyone. So, thank you. And now, for the final time, Mr. Westman directing before he retires the processional. Please begin the processional. Thank you. Hallelujah. Thank you. Hallelujah. down 24 down. Good evening and welcome family members, friends, and class of 2026 graduates to this special evening. My name is Emry Clark and I am the proud principal of Avon High School. Just kidding. However, I did get the opportunity and the honor to serve as the Avon High School 2025 2026 student body
president. This role has taught me so much and I want to express how amazing it was to see the accomplishments of all of my peers over the past four years. I was so proud to have the opportunity and I'm endlessly grateful. I now ask all graduates who are serving, have served or plan to serve to please come join. Sorry, the graduates who plan to serve, please come forward to the stage. And I ask all people who have served, are serving, or plan to serve to please stand in the audience. Now for the last time. Good evening Avon. Please stand for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
>> Thank you. You may be seated. Should I Good evening graduates, family, and friends. My name is Ishni Gatra and it is an honor to welcome you to the class of 2026 graduation ceremony. When I started to write this speech, it allowed me to reflect on our time here. I'm sure we've all had to learn the hard way to not stop in the middle of the hallway or somehow, no matter how many signs were put up, having to constantly relearn the hallways every single year. But today, we close that chapter. In just a few hours, our lives will begin to drift into new and different hallways. Some will start school again. Some will serve in the armed forces. And some are joining the workforce. So just like every cheesy Disney movie ends, please take a
moment and look to the person on the right and the person on the left. Because tomorrow, these hallways will just be memories. These moments will turn into stories. And these faces will only live in photographs. But right now, this isn't a memory. This is happening. Thus, I can proudly say for the next 90 minutes and for one of the very last times a phrase you know all too well. We are Avon. We are one. Thank you. Good evening graduates, staff, and family. My name is Andrew Enochi, and I'm honored to have served on student government executive board. from achievements such as the Avon marching band Black and Gold winning back-to-back state and national championship titles, Avon speech and debate winning their third consecutive 3A state championship. Our state our media team consisting of yearbook newspaper
and broadcasting winning 22 national awards and 16 state awards over the last four years. The robotics team qualifying for the world championships for the first time in 10 years. And our boys tennis team making it to state finals for the first time in our school's history. It's safe to say that the class of 2026 is one of the most accomplished ones yet. However, what we often forget amidst the amidst amidst the good are the struggles that we face to reach our goals. We like to forget those parts of our stories, but they're often some of the most formative experiences we'll ever have. Look at our building for example. For it to be able to accommodate a more accommodate more students, it had to go through some extreme changes during our four years. Dividers cut our
walkways in half as it was making room for expansion. Jackhammers rang through the walls as we took exams on the other side. False fire drills became a regular occurrence of our schedules. But it's through these moments that we were able to grow. Life as high school isn't going to be easy, but if you remember that persevering through our lowest points often results in growth, then perhaps that's one of the most valuable lessons we could ever learn. One of our more difficult moments was when we lost two of our classmates, Raymond Jones and Noah Pillow. We remember and honor them with the lighting of two candles in their memory and representing their presence with us tonight. Let's take a moment of silence to remember our classmates Raymond Jones and Noah Pillow. May they be remembered for
their contribution to their family, their school, and their community. Avon High School. Today I leave you all with just one more equation to master. Passion plus perseverance equals success. Congratulations, Orioles. The sky's is the limit for us all. Good evening everyone. The last group to introduce tonight is the Avon High School faculty. We the class of 2026 would like to show our gratitude to the staff. It is due to their dedication, diligence, and compassion that we have reached this significant milestone in our lives. The class of 2026 asks that all members of Avon High School staff please stand and be recognized for inspiring, engaging, and empowering us through these pivotal years. Now, I'd like to introduce Nancy Oregon, our saludiatoran for the class of 2026. Nancy, would you please come forward? Nancy is the daughter of Ola Leaken in Olaboomi, Oregon. She's involved in many of Avon High School's extracurriculars, co- captain of speech and debate,
which she is multipletime individual and team sectional and state champion. 2025 Avon Distinguished Young Woman, member of the Symphony Orchestra, president of the Avon Youth Civic Engagement Council and National Honor Society, member of the Avon Cancer Society, Interact Club, DECA, Student Government, House of Representatives, and the PMed Club. Nancy is a National Merit Commended student and an IASP regional all-star. Nancy is ranked second in her class with a 5.533 GPA. She will attend the University of Chicago in the fall where she will major in biochemistry. Ladies and gentlemen, it's an honor to present to you the saludiatoran of the class of 2026, Nancy Oregon. Distinguished faculty, loving parents, families, and friends. Thank you all for being here tonight and supporting us throughout the years. A special thank you to my siblings who are my why
in life and my dedicated parents who sacrificed so much to help me become the person I am today. I love you all. Now, the most important people in the room, the Avon High School class of 2026. Congrats. We made it. It's an honor to speak to you today. Growing up, this moment always seemed so far away. In the movies and shows we watched, when our favorite characters graduated, they always seemed so grown up, ready to take on the world, confident. I thought that when my time came, I would be just like them. I can confidently say I couldn't feel farther from that feeling. I'm nervous, not just because I'm giving a speech in front of all of my peers, but because of the unknowingness of the future. For most of my life, I was always
the person who had a plan. Get the grades, win the competition, join the activity, build the perfect future. I thought if I organized everything, I could avoid uncertainty alltogether. But this year, much to the annoyance of everyone around me, I found myself saying three words more than ever before. Nancy, what are you doing after graduation? I don't know. So, what career do you want? I don't know. What college are you choosing? I literally just said I don't know. We are finally the adults we had so desperately wanted to be when we were younger. And suddenly I find myself wanting to be a kid again. And that's the thing about senior year. It makes you realize that an entire chapter of your life is coming to a close. You've experienced many important laughs this year. Our
last competition, our last concert, our last school dance, our last day of school. The list goes on. Everyone tells you to focus on these big last that you miss the small random ones that are just as important. The last time laughing too loud in the back of a class with your friend. The last inside joke that somehow never got old. The last random hallway conversation that you didn't realize you'd miss. These spontaneous moments remind us of something important. Growing up is not about having everything figured out. It's about learning to embrace uncertainty. Because the truth is, none of us became the perfectly put together people we believe we'd be by senior year. And that's okay. Because today is the last day as high school students. This is the last time we will ever wear our
caps and gowns before we officially graduate. And these next few hours will be the last time we are surrounded by this exact group of people. Although today feels like the moment, it's just a moment in the long journey of the rest of our lives. The truth is, we may never feel fully ready for the moments that shape our lives. Ready to graduate, take the job offer, move into our first apartment, or start a new chapter. But that's what makes the future exciting. How will we know when we're ready? Well, the answer is we won't. It's a leap of faith. And uncertainty, while intimidating, leaves room for growth, unexpected opportunities, and moments we could have never planned for. So, as we move forward, I hope we embrace the uncertainty ahead of us while still appreciating the
moments right in front of us. Congratulations, class of 2026. Now I'd like to introduce the validictorian Ryik Shunker Suther Sunker. Ryik, will you please come forward? Ryik is the son of Suther Sunker Sankara Pandian and Uma Priya Suika Suner. Ryik is a robotics team captain and lead programmer, computer science honor society president, national honor society member, and a member of the competitive coding club. During the summer of 2025, Ryik participated in the Yale Young Global Scholars Program and Rose Halman Operation Catapole, where his team created a prosthetic arm that would pick up a water bottle. Ryik is ranked first in his class with a 5.562 GPA. and Rick will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall and major in computer science. Ladies and gentlemen, an honor to present to you the validictorian of
the class of 2026, Ryik Shunker Suther Suther Sunker. Congratulations. >> Good evening everyone. Before I start my speech, I'd like to thank all the people who helped me in my journey. First, my parents. They've supported me in all my endeavors since I was a baby, and I truly would not be in this position without them. My sister Anjanam has been a very supportive and very supportive sibling. She helped me balance the stress in my life. I would also like to thank the teachers who shaped me into who I am today. and my high school experience would not have been nearly as memorable without my friends. We live in a world that focuses more on achievements and results than on the journey. And this can sometimes lead us to taking paths that avoid and risk of
failures. We see so many stories of success around us and never see the adversity people went through. I want to remind you that success requires challenge. Consider for a moment where this journey began. Four years ago, many of us walked into the high school nervous with lots of uncertainty of our futures. What followed was full of detours, but the challenges we encountered along the way shaped us just as much as our successes have. I'm sure my friends from Robotus can agree with that. Now, we sit here still with some uncertainty, but with a lot less of it and a lot more confidence to replace it. There's a certain comfort in choosing the path that carries the least risk of failure or disappointment. And while caution certainly has its place, a life guided entirely by the
avoidance of failure is one that rarely reaches its full potential. The most meaningful accomplishments any of us will achieve will almost certainly require us to attempt something we are not entirely sure we can do. In order to achieve great success, one must risk failure. As we transition into the next chapter of our lives, whether that takes us to higher education, the workforce, or somewhere still undefined, we will inevitably be faced with choices between what is safe and what is worthwhile. There will be moments that call for courage, for patience, and for the willingness to fall short and try again. I've had lots of success, but I've had my own failures, too. One memory of this is where we built a Baltic glider for the science Olympiad, but we built it so fragile that it fell
apart while flying. One moment I saw one plane and the next I saw two. I also tried speech and debate, but I realized that as you may have been able to tell, I'm not a great public speaker. But even with these setbacks, I kept trying new things because a dead end in one path doesn't mean all paths have dead ends. I eventually found out that I was great at programming and I started the competitive coding club, became president of computer science honor society, became the lead programmer for the robotics team. This led me to major in computer science at Georgia Tech. Remember, when one path does not work, do not give up. Instead, keep looking to improve yourself, find what brings you joy and focus on how you can become proud of your own abilities.
Before I end my speech, I would like to say a quote from my native language, Tamar. This quote was from the poet of in the 12th century, and it goes like this. It means that we have yet only learned a handful compared to what we have yet to learn. Our journey in high school has just ended, but we still have a lot to discover and a lot to learn in the rest of our lives. We're all going on different paths in life. Let's wish us all good luck in our endeavors. Oh, by the way, get well. In the words of late, my late mother who passed away several years ago, class of 2026, you clean up pretty darn good. Now, as I scan the graduating class, I'm going to update that phrasing. And I'm only
I only have Sean Curry, one of our graduates, helping me out with some current phrasing because I couldn't come up with this on my own. Y'all looking trim. Y'all looking trim in your caps and gowns, stalls, cords, and metals. But if I'm being honest, there's a part of your wardrobe that's missing. Those lanyards and IDs, where are they at, seniors? Where are they at? Now, I know this is probably the last thing that you expected to hear tonight of all nights, the shock shocker chose this one to talk about lanyard and IDs. But hang with me because I believe something as simple as that lanyard and ID carries lessons that will matter long after tonight. So here we go. First, do the small things. Every day, wearing your lanyard and ID was a simple task.
Maybe easier for some than others, but nonetheless simple. It required discipline and consistency every single day. And that's the point. Life is not about a few big dramatic moments. It's built on small decisions, habits repeated day after day. Showing on up on time to work, completing tasks when no one is watching, expressing kindness and gratitude, being there when someone needs you, keeping your word. These are all gestures that won't earn you applause or a trophy, but those are habits that will build trust and character. And as a result, good things will come your way. Now, wearing your lanyard and ID gave you access into our building, buy your lunch, to check out a book, attend dances, or a football game. However, in life, you can't flash a badge and get into a meaningful career. scan
your way into a close group of friends or swipe into a life of purpose. So my second point, getting the things that matter most is not automatic. Doors opening to open opportunity come through hard work, character, and integrity. The relationships you build over time. Live out our school values of being accountable, respectful, and engaged. Bottom line, the life you want won't be given to you. And lastly, I've said often that wearing your lanyard ID isn't really for you. It was for everyone else because it told us something important. You belong here. You are one of us. You're an oral. But as you walk out of the halls of AHS, that changes. that lanyard and that ID, it no longer holds value because you won't need something hanging around your neck to prove who you are.
People are going to be looking at your life and how you lived it. So, my last point, now that the lanyard and ID is off, how will you be known and remembered? Because no matter what the last four years have looked like, whether they were everything that you had hoped for or not, this is not the end of your story, it's just the beginning of that part that you get to write. So, seniors, it's been my joy and my honor to serve you over the past four years. Congratulations, class of 2026. And I'm going to need a little help here, seniors. And remember, we are Avon. We are Avon. We are one. Thank you very much. Dr. Windham. Dr. Wendham. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Avon High School, I confirm that the
record of each member of this class has been declared eligible to participate in these commencement ceremonies. I request that the diplomas be awarded to these graduates of Avon High School. I ask that the first row of graduates please stand. >> You guys can go ahead and go. You guys can go. >> Yep. So, I ask that the first row of graduates please stand and proceed to the stage to receive your diploma. As they do, I respectfully request that seniors and attendees refrain from celebrating when a name is called that so that each name can be heard clearly. And we would love for you to celebrate after all the names are read and students have walked across the stage. When people give graduation speeches, they sometimes try to cast a vision about what comes next. They maybe give advice about the future or talk about chasing dreams. But I
once heard somebody say that this moment is not about the past, not about the future. This moment is about right now. It's about all the people sitting in this room together. Classmates, teachers, friends, parents, and everyone who helped us become who we are. For probably the last time of our lives, all of our stories are in the same place at once. And maybe that's the insightful thing about growing up. Life rarely pauses long enough for us to notice it while it's happening. However, tonight asks us to stop looking backward or forward for just a second and simply realize how meaningful this moment already is. Tonight is about gratitude. It's about the people sitting in this room together right now. Thank you to the families who supported us even when we were stressed, exhausted or stubborn.
Thank you all parents. And thank you to mine. Thank you to the friends who made hard days easier and good days unforgettable. And thank you to the teachers who believed in us before we believed in ourselves. Teachers like Mrs. Deart, Miss Doerty, Mrs. Trigg, Mr. Sbrook, Senor Gors, and so many others. Now, please join me in the official sign of our graduation as we turn our tassels from the right to the left. Seniors, please stand. Seniors, please stand. Mr. Westman, please begin the recessional. Thank you and have a great evening. Good morning. There we are. That's all right. Let's get our hands on. Thank you. >> Thank you.
