Good evening. Thank you for being here tonight. Please stand and join me in the pledge of allegiance. We'll go ahead and open this meeting by revisiting our vision and strategic goals and we'll listen to either some staff or students uh present those. Um, just to reiterate our vision, we are a nationally recognized district of choice that embraces all students and prepares them to grow and thrive for the future. In cooperation with our community, in cooperation with our community, with our community, with our community, we will become a professional learning community, >> improving student achievement by providing equitable experiences and opportunities for all students. For all students, >> for all students. >> In cooperation with our community, we will create systemic and purposeful innovation opportunities. systemic and purposeful innovation opportunities to develop critical thinkers. Critical thinkers

in cooperation with our community, we will support student well-being, mental wellness, and the whole child. Students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. >> And challenged and challenged are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. Always enjoy those. Oh, and we may watch it again. Um, we have a very full meeting tonight, so we're going to keep moving here. And next on our agenda is celebrating Orioles. And so tonight, we'll be recognizing some students and their academic success from Cedar Elementary and a lot of high school students. So with that, I'll turn it over to Dr. Windham. >> Thank you, Mrs. Parent. Uh, we start every meeting by recognizing students from one of our schools and appreciate Mr. Allen, Mrs. Gregory and several of our Cedar Elementary teachers and staff here as well as some incredible

students. So, I will turn it over to Mr. Allen to introduce our group um who is up here. And we have some fantastic kids that have done some very very special things. And they're accompanied by a wonderful group of teachers, too. And so, if we could have them come up when I say your name. So, Maya, you come on up. Leilani, you can come up and you guys can just kind of stand right there. Aliana, Dawn, come on down. Catherine W, you guys can come on down and just kind of make a line. And then accompanied by and they're going to try to hide in the back. and we're not going to love it. Uh, Mrs. Shrewberry here is one of our, she is our CT lead in fifth grade. So, very thankful for her

leadership. Miss Patel, she can wear there. Mrs. Elliot's one of our fifth grade teachers. And look, Miss America is really trying to hide in the back. Nice try. Uhhuh. She's back there. She's one of our fifth grade teachers as well. So, you can go to the next Oh, I get to go to the next slide. Great. Awesome. So, they're all here because they have worked so hard on our iLearn checkpoint process. Um, this is something that's been new. We're in year two. We piloted this last year, but our kids worked extremely hard and our teachers worked unbelievably hard. So, our vision at Cedar is that together we cause learning. And so I wanted to start with kind of what the process looks like with how hard our teachers have worked on their PLC teams as

a collaborative team to really break down these these kids data uh by question um by standard and then they group them and what I need now time which is just an extra block of time during our school day um to really really support them so we could see the academic growth um and proficiency for some of them that we know we're so proud of. Next, in addition to that, um we utilized a goal setting system. And I think that this is what I'm so proud of for for these kids is how hard that they worked. Um it is I learn is extremely hard. Um and so after each checkpoint, we took uh we set goals on where they were. We aligned those to our Cedar values. So if I go back to our next slide,

you can see on Monday, we focus on challenging ourselves, encouraging all is Tuesday, do your personal best Wednesday, achieve goals is Thursday, and then remember success is possible. And we love that that's Friday because after a long week it may sometimes it's kind of hard to remember that success is possible. But these kids um really embodied all of those different values and working their tails off not just showing proficiency but also showing a lot of growth. Um and so we are so proud of them for all the work that they they showed. And so now most of them brought with them either data binders or some student work that they are really really excited to come up and talk to our members of the board. Um and Dr. Finley and Mrs. uh all day and

Dr. So you guys can come up and kind of talk to them a little bit about what you brought and all the hard work you put in. You guys ready? Okay, we're going to walk over here. You guys ready? >> I asked him if they had their speeches ready. That was my kind of gave me the fifth grade look. >> He made him very nervous. >> Come on over. We won't bite. >> We're very easy. >> Yes. >> Smile a bunch. That's it. Oh yeah. I mean, huh? All right. Well, I'll just make a quick comment on behalf of the board, but the students uh have left and the parents won't hear it either, but um was a joy to um for all of us to see their data folders, hear about the progress they're

making at Cedar, and just want to thank the teachers and Mr. Alen and Mrs. Gregory for for bringing them to the board tonight. All right, so we'll move on to our accommodations and the first one that we have is for um an Avon High School speech team member and I'm going to turn it over to Vice President Mr. Langford. >> Very good. Well, we will actually start with the team and this is kind of fun for me. So, here's what we have. This is what I'm reading. A resolution of accommodation. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Congratulations. Want me to take one? Board members, any comments? >> Um, well, thank you for being such great kids. Um, it we give a light I've been on the board 21 years. Um, and I

give away a lot of recommendations, but none of them have the impact that the speech team has, primarily because I get the good fortune to coach um the Avon speech team. Um, and I have uh really enjoyed that time, but I've learned a lot more from you um than I'm sure I've taught each of you. It is a delight to see kids find their voice and to be able to speak with such conviction and such uh grace and um to be uh just so wonderfully representative of our Avon community. Uh so we won it the first year and we thought maybe that was lucky and then we won it the second year and we said no this is a trend and this year we won it and it's a dynasty y'all. Um I know that

you all all of the uh parents in the audience and all of the other adults in the audience know that the number one fear uh in the world is public speaking. But these kids have mastered it. Um they uh really achieve at a high level in all forms of communication. Um I really love the fact that this this program however teaches the things that I feel are most important in life. Teamwork, perseverance, character, time management, focus and drive. uh the importance of your voice in the ability to communicate effectively in public to others even in ways that may not be representative of common beliefs um or about controversial subjects is truly u laudable. Um thank you to our administration for supporting this program. Uh, thank you parents who have come to countless um speech meets

which are all about 15 days long. Actually, that was only Ben Davis. Thank you for driving your kids at 5:30 in the morning uh to catch a bus. Thank you for listening to that speech one million times in the next room. Um, and thank you to Linda Langford for her um, tireless work and uh, the team she has built. And Dorian, to you especially because I'm your coach. Um, I want to thank you for dancing with me for when we broke in your shoes. And I uh, tell you that the hardest thing I've ever had to coach someone to do is how to do a back bend. Um, I just let her do it and told her she did a great job of it. Uh, but I just cannot wait for you to show um

not only now and in the rest of your high school career, but from this point on the incredible person that you are. Um, so thank you everyone for indulging me. Thank you uh uh to our um students and best of luck as we now go to nationals. Huh. Thank you. I'm gonna I I I I'm going to make three points and everyone who's on my speech and debate um coaching knows that I am a big believer in the rule of three. So, here goes. First, uh when Mrs. Langford reignited the speech team at Avon High School and we started the debate program six years ago, frankly, it wasn't to win state titles. It's nice when that happens. it was that we had a very large high school that was being underserved in this particular area.

We had lanes to fill and we knew that we had talented students, but most importantly, we had students who needed a voice, right? And we started this very much in the heart of COVID in 2020. And if there was ever a time where students needed a voice that didn't involve screens, that involved interpersonal relationships and being out front, it was then. But it wasn't just then. It's each and every year that we put our hearts into this team. It's because we knew when we were high school students the importance of someone listening to us, treating us as if we had an adult, a voice to be heard. And maybe just maybe there's some things to be said by 16 and 17 year old and 18 year olds that are really powerful and they are. So

that's the first thing I want to say. Isn't it wonderful when students find their voice? The second thing I want to say um is that and I I'm looking across and I know many people in this room have been coaches and one of former coaches, current coaches. One of the nice things about coaches is that you get to work with your students for more than just a single school year. You get to see their development during the course of four years. And I look at this group right here and many who couldn't be here tonight. And it's fascinating because when I look at them, I still see them in ninth grade even though some of them are weeks away from graduating. And to have that growth and to allow us as coaches to be to

take that ride with them is sort of amazing to watch them uh become the adults we hope them to become and oh do they. And third and finally, let me speak. I can't see her right now and it's probably just as well. A comment for my wife, Linda Langford. um she gives her all and a lot of seasons are long. The speech season might be the longest of all. There truly is no off season and I know there's some other extracurriculars in Avon that are like that and those who have those kinds of seasons know what I'm talking about. We talk about it in June, we talk about it in September, we do it from October to March and everywhere in between. And it's truly passion. Uh, Linda and I were inspired by two high

school coaches who are both now deceased. They were married. They meant the world to us. Um, they meant the world to us long after we had left high school. And, um, if we're even doing half of what they did for us, then then we're doing okay. And I can speak for Mrs. Langford and all of the the the students who love her very dearly that she's doing a wonderful thing. And again, back to my first point, thank you for helping us all find her voice. All right. Can I have the Avon Accents show choir come on up? And as they come up, I'm going to go ahead and read their commendation. The Avon Community School Cor uh Corporation Board of School Trustees would like to congratulate the Avon Accent Show Choir with passage of the

following resolution. Whereas the Avon Accents won the 2026 Indiana State School Music Association, ISMA show Choir State Championship in the mix division. Whereas the Avon accents had demonstrated perseverance to achieve excellence at a high level and have demonstrated excellent work ethic. Oh, I skipped one. Let me go back. Actually, will you turn around so they can see your smiling faces? And then I'm gonna I skipped a paragraph. Whereas this win uh was the second that was too notable to for me to skip. Second state championship in the Avon showquoire program history and the Avon Accents second consecutive championship, making them back-to-back isma state champions. Whereas the Avon accents have demonstrated perseverance to achieve excellence at the a high level and have demonstrated excellent work ethic, determination and commitment. Whereas the Avon accents have earned the

respect of the entire school community for their high standards and expectations. Whereas the highest level of distinction given to given by the Avon Community School Corporation is accommodation from the board of school trustees. Therefore, let it be resolved that Avon accents through the work of their students, directors, and parents are hereby commended for their success and achievements. Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> I move that the board of school trustees approve the commendation for the Avon accent showquire as presented. >> Second motion by Josh, seconded by Jennifer. Is there any discussion? All those in favor. That motion passes 5-0. Congratulations. What are we doing? All right. Can I have Okay. Next, can I have Eli Neil come up? 027congratulate Eli Neil with the passage of the following resolution. Whereas Eli Neil placed first in the DECA Indiana State Career Development Conference on food mark in the food marketing category earning a state championship on March 3rd, 2026. Whereas Eli Neil has qualified as a finalist to compete in the DECA International Competition due to his superior performance at the district and association levels. Whereas Eli Neil has demonstrated perseverance to achieve excellence at a high level. Whereas Eli Neil has demonstrated excellent work ethic, determination, and commitment. Whereas Eli Neil has earned the respect of the entire school community for his high standards and expectations. Whereas the highest level of distinction given by the Avine Community School Corporation is accommodation from the board of school trustees. Therefore, let it be resolved, Eli Neil is hereby commended for his

success and achievements. Board members, I'll entertain a motion. >> I move that the board of school trustees approve the accommodation for Eli Neil as presented. >> Second. >> Motion by Mike, seconded by Jennifer. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Congratulations. >> Do you want to bring up Jay? >> Do you mind? We're gonna have you >> stand and we're gonna do you and Jay together if that's okay. All right, Jay, come on. Front and center, please. The Avon Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees would like to congratulate Jay Desai with passage of the following resolution. Whereas Jay Desai placed first at the DECA Indiana State Career Development Conference in the personal financial literacy category, earning a state championship on March 3rd, 2026. I move that the board of school trustees approve the accommodation for Jay Desai as presented. >> Second motion by Mike, seconded by Jennifer. Is there any discussion?

All those in favor? That motion carries 5. Congratulations. join the picture. I've made all the other coaches and sponsors join the picture. Board members, I want to pause and give a moment if anyone has any comments about the accommodations we've just awarded. >> Absolutely. I'll start with the um accent show choir. Um I I feel like sometimes our um our population gets so um I don't know what's the word expectations become like oh we won again as if that wasn't like the most amazing thing. So to continue to win uh year after year with an entirely different show u with entirely different choreography with multiple switches and costume changes and I I don't know I just it's it's hard for me to wrap my mind around. Um but I can tell you as a as

a parent of kids who watch the show um it just leaves a sense of awe in those YouTube videos, those um highlight reels um when you see it coming from not just Avon but the the the shares and the um I don't know retweets if you will. um they just they just go uh much wider than our audience and um it leaves everybody in awe. So uh while this is an impressive by itself um the the broader area that you reach and the people that you inspire um would be hard to calculate. So congratulations and thank you for being a part of us. I was gonna comment on Eli and Jay. Um, you guys do double duty, huh? Show choir and speech and, um, can you tell me a little bit about how long it

takes you to prepare for these championships? So a lot of time management, a lot of skills and you can add if you want. Well, I was gonna say, you know, first you being first in state and then qualifying as finalist. That's very impressive. So, I'm excited to see where this takes you and thank you for representing Avon so well. >> And where is internationals being held this year? >> Atlanta. Very good. And Mr. Droshi, the the sponsor has been here. Mr. Droshi, how long have you been the DECA sponsor? >> How about it? Uh-huh. In addition to being the head baseball coach, he's a busy man. Right. Whereas Khloe Mc Khloe McCasslin was awarded a silver medal and best in her event of teaching strategies at the FCCLA state leadership conference. Whereas Clo Khloe McCasslin was selected as the FCCLA Avon National Qualifier. Whereas Khloe McCasslin displayed exceptional leadership and professionalism during workshops and networking sessions. Whereas Khloe McCasslin has demonstrated perseverance to achieve excellence at the highest level. Whereas Khloe McCasslin has demonstrated excellent work ethic, determination, and commitment. Whereas Khloe McCasslin has earned the respect of the entire school community for her high standards and expectations. Whereas the highest level of distinction given by the Avon commu community school corporation is a commendation from the board of school trustees. Therefore, let it be resolved. Khloe McCasslin has is hereby commended for her success

and achievements. Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> I move that the board of school trustees approve the accommodation for Khloe McCasslin as presented. >> Second. >> Motion by Mike, seconded by Josh. Is that correct? Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Congratulations, Chloe. All right. And Miss Nancy, could you come back up front and center? All right. 035IASP, regional academic all-star, and a 202526 national nationally commended scholar. Whereas Nancy Oregon was designated a 2025 rising star. I'm going to have to use a little place marker here to make sure. Uh 2025 rising star, yes, rising star of Indiana, a 2025 academic all-American, a 2024 AP scholar, and 2025 AP scholar with distinction, a 2025 distinguished young woman champion, a DECA state qualifier, a 2024 original or oratory state champion, and a member of the 2022 23 Indiana State School Music Association, ISMA state champion. and Avon Symphony Orchestra. That motion passes 5-0. Congratulations. All right, board members, any comments on our last final two for the evening for commendations? I

think I think we just missed Chloe. >> I know. Everybody grab >> somebody grabing. Could you grab Chloe there or Mrs. Langford? >> We want to talk more about you. >> We we had several people to recognize and so we were trying to divide up a little bit of the the time. Um, so each of us are trying to to kind of represent the board with a few comments because if we went through all of us every time then we wouldn't get here. So, uh, apologize for being tardy with the comments on this one. Um, the the idea of being able to win a medal at um, teaching other people um, the skill of teaching itself. I'm biased um, but I I firmly believe that you know something best when you can teach it to

others. When you can teach others to do actions, to change their behaviors, then you've unlocked a skill that opens up from everything from obviously teachers, but coaches, mentors, leaders, uh salespeople, um when you can call people to action and they then then they do it. Um so teaching people at a conference that's all about leadership um puts you in a in a category of um unlimited potential. Um so it's super impressive and we just want to thank you for representing Avon um in that capacity and anything you do in the future. Just a couple real quick questions. Chloe, what year are you? Freshman. Oh my goodness. How about that? And would you mind introducing who's next to you? Your sponsor. Yeah. Well, that's awesome. And someone else is next to you to your right. >>

Oh, hi there. Hi, Mom. Well, thank you. >> It it it's a community. It's teachers, it's parents, it's everyone. So, congrats, >> Chloe. For those that aren't familiar, can you explain what FCCLA is? I'll just say that learned something new careers teaching strategies has helped me out pretty well. So >> I'm a proponent. >> Thank you. Thank you for coming back in. >> Board members, any con any comments for our saludiatoran? >> I have to get out in front of this one because anybody else who speaks is probably going to do better. Um, I feel uh like uh huge accolades and and all of the respect to you. Um, I I fear that the commenation may be longer than my resume and I'd like to consider myself as a professional. >> Um, uh, such impressive

uh work, especially given uh your time. Um, I don't know how you fit it in. I don't know how you have friends. I don't know how you have hobbies. Um, that they're just super impressive. Um, biochemistry obviously as a science teacher I was very excited to hear that. Um, you have amazing schools to choose from. So, I envy your position, but I don't wish it, uh, is the phrase goes, um, getting the chance to, uh, in my, uh, professional side, um, teaching a lot of biochemistry majors, teaching a lot of researchers, sometimes they struggle in the they do the science really well, but they don't know how to tell their story. um hearing the rest of your accolades tonight. Um you already have that down as well. So, it will truly be an honor and

privilege to see where you end up in and your story as you write it. >> You know, the really other special thing about Nancy in addition to all the accolades is and there are many people who know her personally, including myself, she's one of the nicest, sweetest, most humble people you would ever meet. and all that stuff. You would never know it from Nancy, which is u really it uh says so much about you, Nancy. The fact that we don't hear it from you, we just watch it and admire. >> All right. Well, that wraps up our Celebrating Orioles Marathon for this evening. Um, everyone is welcome to stay, but if you don't want to stay for the remainder of our packed uh full meeting, this is a great time to head towards the door.

But everyone's welcome to stay All right. Well, we will move on to the next item on our agenda, which is number four. Um, comments from the board president. Um, I just wanted to thank um the participants and the administrative staff that host Oral Advocates. They just wrapped up another round uh of class um that has been around since 2014 and it has evolved in many many ways. It's been very cool to see that grassroots group that has really helped advocate on so many different levels, not even not only in just the Avon community, but also downtown and at the state level. So, just want to thank those participants. I know you did a podcast I saw. And then also the administrative staff. I know that's not easy. Uh that's a big time commitment not only

for your staff but also those participants that gave up their time to learn more about the school and how could they can be impactful. So, just wanted to say thank you. Um next we'll move to item five, which is uh public comments to the board. And I don't believe any have signed up. So, we'll keep moving. Sure. >> Um so item number six is uh we've added recently comments from the superintendent. Dr. Windham. >> Thank you, Mrs. Parent. Um believe it or not, we have so many student groups to recognize that we had to move some from tonight's agenda to keep it as short as possible. So, um it has been a spring that really has just been tremendous to see what our students and our staff um have accomplished. So, we had a couple

of groups that we moved uh to our April working session or to our May board meeting. We typically recognize validictorian and saludiatoran at the May board meeting, but since Nancy was going to be here anyways, we thought, well, let's go ahead and and add her. So, it is incredible to see um just the great things that our students are accomplishing. Um I also want to take a minute and just um recognize our school board. Uh we found out this past month that you are again uh have recognized from the Indiana School Boards Association as an exemplary board for your work in 2025. Um that is that involves submitting board meeting minutes, board retreat minutes, um self-reflections that the board does, evaluation information for the superintendent, just very comprehensive work that goes in uh to your

service to our schools and our community. one of only five school districts in the state of Indiana this year to get that recognition. Um and uh to and you'll receive that uh tomorrow evening at another event u with the Indiana School Boards Association. So just appreciate all that that you do uh not just in our meetings but on a day-to-day basis uh to support our schools and it's neat to see the Indiana School Boards Association recognize that. So thank you for thank you for your service. >> Thank you. All right. Um next we'll move on to item seven, the consent agenda. So this includes a number of items that board members receive ahead of this meeting. Um it can be in this particular instance it was uh meeting minutes, claims, payroll, transfer memo, uh personnel

report, disposal of equipment, donation report, overnight field trip requests, programs and camps. And we study all that to be prepared. Um, so with all of that, board members, I will entertain a motion on the consent agenda. I move that the board of school trustees approve the regular session minutes on March 9, 2026. Special session minutes on March 2020 26. The regular payrolls for March 13, 2026 and March 27, 2026. the March and April 26 claims, the personnel report, the March 2026 transfer, the disposals, the donation report, the overnight field trips and programs and camps as presented. >> Second motion by Mike, seconded by Jennifer. Is there any discussion? All in favor? That motion passes. 5-0. Next up is item eight, unfinished business. We'll start with the enrollment report report. My words, a lot of words

tonight. Mrs. Ald, >> good evening. Um, you know, this is the busy time for enrollment. We are enrolling new students um for next school year. We are doing our returning student registration that opened up just last week. Um, it's it seems like so long ago, but it was just last week. U when you look at our at our numbers right now, our current numbers um Mr. Yoder and I actually were briefly talking about this. Typically we sometimes in the spring we'll see where we drop a few students but if you look at from March to April of this year we actually increased um students which is you know something that's good for our district. Um I also wanted to report on 2627 we're at around 434 kindergarteners signed up for next year. That includes our

kids who were at White Oak currently that will be transitioning to kindergarten and our students who just started the enrollment process and that is about consistent with where we were at last year at this time. So a good piece. We also just last month after the board um approved open enrollment we started that process. So that's for students who do not live inside Avon but are applying to come here. And we've had around 50 students apply um within this month. Our um the grade level with the highest number is kindergarten um which we love to see at 11. The next one is our junior class um for whatever reason is our next highest applications right now. There's still more time for applications but it's something we're monitoring um throughout the year. Any questions? Thank you.

Thank you, Mrs. Ald. Next up, we'll hear from Mrs. Glass about some costsaving and efficiencies. >> Good evening, board members. Avon Community School Corporation received $16,640 from the West Central Conservancy District for a sewer easement on the land we own just west of the high school. Thanks to uh Dr. Finley and his partnership with WCCCD. This not only helps support our operations form uh fund, I'm sorry, but it also helps um save cost to our taxpayers. >> Always like to hear that. Thank you. Board members, any questions for Mrs. Glass? >> Thank you. >> All right, moving on to item nine on the agenda, which is new business. Um we'll start out with um first reading of board policy updates. Dr. Windub, >> thank you. Uh when I was talking about the exemplary governance um

designation that the board received, one item I failed to neglect that has to be submitted is regular review of school board policies. And that's part of what the Indiana School Boards Association looks at when making that determination of boards that are exemplary. So, uh, we are continuing that, uh, trajectory by, uh, bringing you some updated policies, uh, for you to look at. Um, we work closely with the Indiana School Boards Association. They update policies periodically as state laws change or as guidance changes. Um, there are two new policies being recommended. Uh, and those changes are really based on the the recommendation from, uh, ISBA as well as, uh, the state board of accounts. Those two new policies uh really pertain to Mrs. Glass's department and fi in and school finance and some of the the

lessons that uh state board of accounts has passed on uh to school districts and considerations for their policies. Then uh you'll also see eight revised policies. Those revisions pertain to changes to Indiana law such as schoolboard vacancies, habitual truent policies as well as some other ISBA recommendations based on state board of accounts audits for the policies such as internal controls uh accounting systems for fixed assets and then some policies were recommending revisions just simply to update our processes such as the transfer students policy. Appreciate that the board uh has been looking these over Mrs. Woodward in as you were looking them over, you had shared um a suggestion on policy 4322 habitual truent that we clarify that language to make it clear that that was 11 days in a school year. So you'll see that

we did capture that change our previous policy. It was just kind of assumed that it was a school year. So I appreciated that edit to make that more clear. Um, and then certainly glad to answer uh any recommendations or answer any questions that you might have um about these policies and appreciate your commitment to regularly reviewing them. >> Board members, I'll entertain a motion if there are no questions for Dr. Windham. I move that the board of school trustees approve new policies 6120 and 6250 and revise policies 1106 33418 and 7030 as presented on first reading motion by Kim seconded by Jennifer. Is there any dis sorry motion motion by Jennifer seconded by Kim. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. >> All right. Next up is approval of student

handbooks. Dr. Finley. >> Okay. Thank you. We had a good process this year with the building principles and and there were a few policies that we tried to to bring together in the handbook or procedures that just to ensure that um we had consistency in elementary, middle, and high school. Um the vaping policy in particular, making sure that we're um all in alignment there. And then also a few other things, of course, the cell phone policy, which has changed, and that's Indiana law that um cell phones cannot be used throughout the school day, not just during instructional times. So, we're adding common language in the the cell phone in the policy regarding cell phones and and if there are any other questions regarding um policy or the the handbook updates, please. >> I had a

couple questions. >> Oh, sure. Please. >> About the tobacco and vaping, are we in line with like other school districts as far as the procedures for that? >> We are. And and one of the things that we really looked at this year, and of course there's always going to be consequences when these things happen, but we needed to have do what we do best in in schools, and that's teach. And so there needed to be a teaching component involved with um the punitive piece that would happen, of course. And so, um, we've developed a program and we've been talking with the school resource officers at the high school who've been excited about this, but they're going to start a vape educate class with first offenders and make sure that that's in place. If there's a

a chance that there's a second offense, then we also were going to work with Cumins and do some group counseling outside of that. We're also going to work with um, Willow for any type of of supports needed there. So, um we're trying to have a more um supportive approach as well. We want to make sure that we're not going straight to I think the the biggest change is um in that first offense is making sure that they have an opportunity to do this uh program and and get the support that they need and make sure they're back in school as quick as possible. I think the punitive piece piece certainly needs to be there. Um what we've found the challenge is if if they're out of school for 10 days, they're probably off doing whatever

it is we didn't want them to be doing in school, we've just given them additional time to do that. So, our goal is to get them back in the classroom as fast as possible and then make sure that there's also some type of diversion program in place and some education involved. So, I think we found this is a place that we can do that. The SRO's were excited about that and we'll make sure that the students have the support and we'll make sure also that those things aren't happening in our school. First and foremost, we have to make sure that it's safe and so the consequences will always be there, but just making sure that that education piece is there as well. >> I had one more question. >> Sure. >> About um the Friday

school Saturday. >> Um is other districts doing that as well? Um have we explored all opportunities? And I'm assuming that we're going to see how this works and then revisit if it needs to be changed. >> We will. It's a great question. You know, for me being a different district for a long long time of similar size. I wasn't familiar with Saturday school at all. It's not something that that happened in my previous district. Um I think this came from the high school and and they decided that a lot of times attendance wasn't great for the Saturday school, but if they have the students at school and they can do the Friday school and have the consequence and and keep that as part of of already having them there with us rather than worrying about

transportation on Saturday, they decided to go ahead and move forward with that. And as part of this process, we also had middle school students who were sometimes and it was a very small um portion of the population that were typically middle middle school students, but who were also coming on Saturday to the high school. So now they're going to be coming to a Saturday school at their particular school, but it's a very small portion of the the population. Um Saturday school, I think, has served a purpose for the high school for a long time. This came from them and they wanted to try to see if they could have um a better turnout for the Friday school. They already have the students with them and can just keep them for a little bit longer and

still be a deterrent of some sort. >> Thank you. >> Any other questions for Dr. Finley? >> Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> I move that the board of school trustees approve the 2026 27 school handbooks as presented. Second >> motion by Mike, seconded by Josh. Is there any more discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Thank you, Dr. Finley. Next, we have an amendment to support staff pay matrix. You're up again, Dr. Finley. Okay, thank you board members. So throughout this process and we had started looking at transportation pay structure at the beginning of this school year and I've worked very closely with Kevin Gray, our director of transportation, Kristen Williams, our director of human resources. has been involved with that group weekly and we've been meeting just to to

review everything that we're doing in transportation and try to ensure that we're as clear and transparent as possible with how our bus drivers are paid. And so we have worked on um throughout the year on a few structural changes and what we've done throughout that time is made sure that we've gone to the transportation department. We've talked with them as a whole group. We offered small groupoup sessions as well in January and met with a lot of drivers at that time just to get their feedback and understand some of their main concerns with the pay structure. Um, and so we've had a lot of good feedback throughout this semester. And right before spring break, we went back with some of the the um, you know, resolutions that we've come up with. And I think we've

come up with a good structure. I think it's something that we spent a lot of time on. We made sure throughout this process that we were looking at each individual driver and making sure that no one was getting paid less throughout this process. It was really important to us and we wanted to make sure that it was clear and that that that structure was in place. Uh and u so we did that. We also after we came back and and showed them the new structure right before spring break um we offered individual meetings. We sent out uh emails with exactly what each employee would be making the following year. If they had questions about that, they had an opportunity to talk to human resources at that time. So, really trying to spend some time with

each employee as needed to make sure that we're hearing exactly um what their concerns were and that they understood exactly where their pay was was coming from and what it looked like for each of them. So, um, all of this new pay structure will go into effect for the 26 27th school year. And as we started talking with the drivers, some of the key themes, and this was throughout the course of of this semester, they do love their jobs. They love working with the students. U, they love the community connection. It's important work. They're the first face that our students see in the morning when they come in. They're the last face that they see as they leave. It's a great connection to school. and our drivers um are are essentially hauling the most important

cargo in our district, in our county. You know, I think the the greatest human resource we have in Avon is our children. And I think they do a great job of making sure that they're safe and that they have reliable transportation to and from school. So, one thing that they really also appreciated was the stretch pay so that that happened throughout the school year. you know, we have the school year for about, you know, a certain amount of time. It ends at the end of May. Their pay will continue in June and July and then pick up again in August. So, we've just been able to stretch it out throughout the year. And that's something that they really appreciated. They also wanted to be paid by the job band. So, we had what was called

three tier, two-tier. That's if they're riding or having three routes in the morning, three routes in the afternoon, or two in the morning, two in the afternoon. and they wanted to be paid by those job bands versus being paid hourly. Um, consistent routes and making sure that they have good medical benefits and continuing to improve the culture and support that they have here in Avon. And as we move forward, we realize, you know, that the main priorities were just ensuring that there's clarity in the pay and that we standardize how they are paid. many of the the job bands and I'll show in a minute um before were we had all these add-ons and so they were they were getting paid competitively but there were a lot of of extra stipens that were being paid

for the additional work happening and we just tried to really spend a lot of time. Sheila loves a good spreadsheet and she had a lot of spreadsheets on each employee and exactly the work that they were doing each and every day. So we were able to to really hone in on exactly what that pay structure should look like. We assessed the three- tier pay structure. We ensured equitable pay across the all of the different types of jobs. There's a lot of different job bands that that take place in the transportation department. Um we'll continue to value experience. Our veteran drivers, we appreciate all the work that they do. They do a great job and so we'll continue to value that experience. Uh fair pay for shuttles, field trips, out of district trips. We've talked a

lot about the fact that we do have our base pay and then drivers can do a lot more outside of that if they want to be paid um for additional work. There's lots of things that need to happen with ECAs and weekend trips and then of course ultimately retention and recruitment. We've we've um continued to advertise. We've recently had about seven good applicants come in and three are going to be able to start right away. So I think we're having some good luck bringing people in and we need to make sure that we're keeping them here with us in Avon. So as we looked at this current pay structure, one of the things we tried to do is just outline exactly what was happening with each particular job band. So with each route that was

run, they were called three tier routes before we started calling them 3x3, 2x two just to simplify what it is. So a 3x3 is three routes in the morning, three routes in the afternoon. Two by two by two is two routes in the morning, two in the middle of the day, two at the end of the day. So we try and and each one um has a specific pay structure for that job band. We also have some who are doing, you know, and a lot of different um opportunities for drivers and some make the choice to only have two uh runs in the morning, two in the afternoon. So that's the four run. Um two tier is what we used to call it. Now it's just two by two. Um we have the three tier

standby. That's a little bit more challenging. The 3x3 standby. They're sort of our subd drivers who will jump in and go anywhere. And and there's only a handful of them that that are able to really go to any jump on any route and just go and know exactly where the stops are in neighborhoods and and that's challenging. So there is a little bit of a premium for those those positions. And we talked about part-time standby as well. And then also looking at, you know, just identifying sort of these extra runs and as we're short on drivers, there are times when drivers have to do these additional bits. If if they want to, and it's always their choice, but if they run a 3x3 in the morning and they've run their three different runs and they're

finished, then they can always pick up another segment. Each time they do another segment, it's $37. In the past it it ranged from 30 to 37 and we just landed on we're just going to go with the highest number and make sure that they all make that amount. Um we and anytime outside of those job ban times there's there's extra hours. Sometimes they have to if they're cleaning buses or if they're calling parents or if they're doing some type of training there's additional hours that are work. So it's $18 an hour outside of that time. in making sure that our our shuttles and shuttles are between buildings, that they're paid like segments, a $37 flat rate. Some of this we just had to look at what everyone was doing and just make it as clean

as possible. And I think we've been able to do that. And I and I know that um throughout this time, we just kept looking back. Okay, which is this employee making exactly what they've made in the past? If if they're not making exactly that or a little bit more, then we need to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to make it work. And so we were able to ensure that everyone is still making what they're paying and right now. And then their base pay is has increased a little bit because we're no longer doing the stipens. I think long ago in Avon, there were typically two routes in the morning, two in the afternoon. If you happen to pick up another one, you would get this extra segment. You'd get this

extra piece. And so they started paying their their 3x3 drivers with just these extra stipens. And you know, as we really sat back and looked at it, talked to some of the drivers, we realized it's just their job now. So, it needs to be a part of their base pay. So, we've changed that. And next year, moving forward for transparency, that's what it is. It's it's within their base pay, which is a good thing for them. And I think that's going to be something that that will be there forever. As Avon's grown, those um 3x3 routes are what most of our drivers are doing at this point. And again, I I my biggest fear in this job and and and I found myself in probably one of the the greatest school corporations in the state.

It's a it's a a you know, it's a high functioning successful school corporation in so many different areas. And I know that for us to continue to be successful, every single piece of what we do has to be running like a clock and it has to be successful and it has to be um you know, Everything has to be where it needs to be. And I feel like this was an area I feel I feel proud of the work that we've done at this time. I think we've accomplished what we wanted to do as far as transparency, being as clear as possible with this employee group and making sure that we spent a lot of time with them. There's still a lot more time to to spend with them and they need to understand that

we do value their work. I mean, there's so many different types of jobs that happen in our corporation, and this is an extremely important one because if if things aren't running efficiently with the transportation department, we feel it throughout the district. And so, with this worldclass organization, we find ourselves then, transportation needs to be that as well. And I know that we'll get there. I think my biggest fear is always spending enough time, you know, did we did we spend enough on on making sure there's going to be a positive outcome with this challenge? challenges will always come along. I really feel like we've done a good job spending the time needed to come up with a good product and we'll continue to work. I think we've also developed some good relationships along the way.

They trust Kevin. They know that that Kevin has their best interest in mind and we'll continue to work with them to make sure that that they have what they need. We love our bus drivers and we can't do it without them. So, you know, we appreciate everything they've done. I think it's been a really good process. board members. Any question for Dr. Finley and what he just presented? >> I guess I just wanted to clarify a couple things and make sure that what I'm taking away is uh your words, not just my uh thoughts on what you're saying. Um so you verified that no one will make less when you look at a whole compensation package doing the same work as before. Apples to apples compensation stays the same. >> Yes, that's correct. that uh

with even if it's just the $37 per route versus the $30 route, many would make um at least some more um but not as like a percentage, not as like a raise. >> That's right. Yeah, they they'll make more for the additional. A lot of them weren't making that 37. And then also now any raise in the future will be on that base pay which is now at a higher rate. >> So when drivers accept a route, they would be able to accurately predict before they sign up. So they're not just like taking a route and estimating what their check might be. >> Absolutely. >> So they have that predictability. >> And then a question um how do we compare with schools near us and those that like we are most comparable to similar size

or similar? >> Yeah, it's very competitive. We we did a thorough um review of that and we know that our pay is competitive that starting rate for the three tier and then it goes up from there. some of our drivers um who have been around for a while are making 28 $210 a day and that's very competitive um with the surrounding districts >> that like first second territory or we like middle of the pack when you see >> yeah I would say we're one of the top right now and and and the thing you know some of the districts are smaller than us so they may run small shorter route they may do a two-tier route instead of a three tier but for those that are doing the three tier routes we're very competitive And

some of the school corporations do hourly. They do based off the run. >> That's Yes. >> And some school corporations don't do the stretch pay. >> That's correct. Yeah. >> Can you Dr. Go ahead. >> Can you just for public understanding, can you explain the stretch pay? And then also, do we have any other non-certified groups that are on stretch pay in our district? >> We don't actually. Most are paid for the that they work during the school year. And for the transportation employees, and we've done this for quite a while now, I believe in Avon is stretch their pay out so that, you know, one of the things if if they have medical benefits um that are being taken from that pay, then they can stretch it out throughout the course of the year

rather than just being paid for the time that they're at school when school's in session. So that means during those two week breaks in the fall, two week breaks in spring, that time over the summer, they're still receiving a consistent paycheck. >> Okay. Thank you. Mrs. Woodward, did you Okay. Anything else, board members, before we for a motion? >> All right. I will entertain a motion. I move that the board of school trustees approve the amended support staff matrix and pay recommendations to take effect with the start of the 2026 2027 school year. >> Second >> motion by Josh, seconded by Mike. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Um, next item on the agenda, approval of 2026 2027 school meal prices. Dr. Finley up again. >> We've recommended the

PE meal prices stay the same for the 2026 27 school year and that we've also recommended an increase in the vended meal prices. We still serve meals to our Shepherd Lutheran school, but we actually deliver those meals. So, there is some um transportation and fuel cost involved with that. So, we've increased that or we're recommending an increase of 10 cents just for transportation costs. Board members, I'll entertain a motion when you're ready. I move that the board of school trustees approve the 202627 school mill prices as presented. >> Second >> motion by Jennifer, seconded by Josh. Is there any discussion? All those in favor. That motion carries 5-0. Next up is the approval of preschool to 8th grade whole childcurricular materials. This is all day. So, we have several um motions and um this evening.

So, I was going to give some basic overview information before we go into each one. Um you know, curricular material adoption is a really important um component of our school district. It provides the resources that we're using with our children um to teach all the different areas. And we take this um this task really seriously. And it's it's been going on for months um in places. And um one of the things most proud of is each year we have created trans more and more transparency to this process. Uh we have you know you'll see a lot of staff members involved in this but what we really have worked is our parent our transparency with our parents and our community. Um a several years back we opened up I have we started having an openhouse where

we have that process we have every all of our materials um available. We added evening hours were able to come in and review and provide feedback to us. Um, and you know, before that it was just we would invite a couple we would invite a couple individual parents and we really went away from that invitation and when it's time for a curricular review, we send it out and invite anyone who could be involved in that process. Um, in addition, we know sometimes the time commitment doesn't work for families if you're a working family sometimes when we do the work. So, we anything that is um is ver if it's a virtual material, we're just sending it out and saying review it and give us feedback. Um we put that in place. That was new this

year where we put it the virtual piece out and ask for any feedback. Um we'll hold meetings, virtual meetings where families can join in and give us feedback that way. So we're really trying to be transparent and engage our families um so they are aware and give us feedback on what materials are being used with their children. Um so again I would I would put us up to any other district in the state of how transparent we are with this process. Um again lots of hours of work. Um Dr. Hines has led supported a lot of this work. Mrs. Shayovich and then Mrs. Fay are also ones who put a lot of work into this. So now we'll go into each area. So we divide it up by like core areas. So the first one

um as you said is our whole child. So we review, we've been using um second steps and you know every so often we just want to review to make sure do we have the best to meet the needs of our students and our staff. And so based on the review process, what we're bringing to the board tonight is um three different ones. So for preschool, it's called Kimokis. Um and it it's very preschool with little stuffed animals and things. It's very cute. Um our elementary one is called Be Good People. And then we're recommening middle school is really and this is all based on feedback um from our staff and um we also have feedback from our families. So those are the three we're bringing to you for whole child. >> Any questions? All right.

If no questions I will I will entertain a motion. I move that the board of school trustees approve Camoi's educator toolkit resources for the preschool whole child adoption appro excuse me approve be good people for elementary whole child adoption and approve really bill seal for middle school whole child adoption as presented Second >> motion by Kim, seconded by Josh. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Next up is approval of third through fifth grade functional reading morphology curricular materials. So this one is um in in K through two we have the focus on um that foundational reading skills the phonics piece and um in that we're using the MA Rooney um foundation for support or Gillingham. Um so this is that next step. So we're going to continue using what

you we already adopted last year but this is the focus on morphology or the study of words and word parts um for grades three through five. And you'll a little bit of a difference this year. We're not purchasing something with this. Um it's really we're creating um a structure that we want the board to adopt and then we have a scope and sequence to go along with that and that's for morphology to support grades three through five. >> I have a comment on that. Um did some research on this and I'm excited to see how this evolves and how it helps our students. So I'm excited for this program. vocabulary, Greek and Latin roots. I mean, it's something that will really help our students um I mean in the early in elementary, but as they

move to middle school and high school. And just to add, I think uh there are a lot of teachers that have talked um even just peer-to-peer or or people who would know me. Um they felt like some of that has kind of moved away. It was less popular through various changes in the last 10 or 20 years that that really affected spelling and comprehension and especially that you've never seen before. >> There are a lot of teachers who are very excited to have a return of focus on not just pieces and parts but the whole idea. >> Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> Board of school trustees approve morphology plus for the elementary functional reading adoption as presented. >> Second. >> Motion by Josh. seconded by Mike. Is there any discussion? All those

in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Next up is approval of sixth through 8th grade band curricular materials. As you know, we have a very strong um performing arts and middle school is where the formal performing arts begins. Um and so we are bringing this is our this is for intermediate um band and so they just have the recommendation of the essential technique book and then a fresh approach for the beginning per percussion class um through JD JW pepper >> board members I'll entertain a motion >> I move the board of school trustees approve essential technique and a fresh approach for beginning percussion classes as band curriculum resour resources as presented. >> Second >> motion by Jennifer, seconded by Kim. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes by zero. Next up is

the approval of eighth grade social studies curricular materials. >> Okay. In this one, I think when uh we put out and if parents wanted to participate, I think the title really intrigued some people when they saw it was two miserable presidents and a lot of interest. I think I mean it's not about our current, it's really about um our um it's about the civil war, but I think it brought a lot of interest um into there. We had a lot of parent engagement around this one. And so we're recommending for eighth grade social study. This is a com a compendium to go with our already adopted resource and it's two miserable presidents. The amazing ter amazing terrible and totally true story of the civil war. I I move the board of school trustees approve two

miserable presidents. the amazing, terrible, and totally true story of the Civil War for the middle school social studies adoption as presented. >> I can second. >> Motion by Mike, seconded by Josh. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? >> Just think there should be a really uh interesting title every year to get all the parents coming, >> right? That's what we need to do. Mrs. Smith, did you have a comment? >> Yeah, I just appreciate the opportunity because I got the parents where um where Mr. invited any parents that wanted to read the book to read it. So I really appreciate that we were given the opportunity to read it before presenting it. >> That's a good point. That was for parents and guardians, not correct just the school board members. So awesome. Thank

you. Let's revote just in case just since we >> All those in favor that motion passes 5-0. Thank you. Next up is approval of high school sports photography and fiber arts curricular materials. Okay. So, now we're moving up to the high school. And I do think that's a good point. I'm glad you said that, Mrs. Smith. So, any uh when we reached out to parents, we were really broad. So, if it was eighth grade social studies, we and we reached out to all seventh grade kids because they would be in eighth grade social studies. So, um to show that book or you'll hear we're going to talk about some 12th grade English books. And again, we shared those titles with every single parent um and they that current juniors that would have this next year

and try and engage the families there. So, I'm glad you pointed that out. Um so, at the high school level, you know, we have um several subject areas and the first one is arts and that's sports photography and fiber arts. And again, you'll see these are curriculum and open sources. So in a lot of our classes uh we don't always we can't find that right sometimes resource or textbook that matches the needs but we have very uh we have great teachers who are very knowledgeable in their craft or in their area and the um there's a lot of resources out there and so they have curate curated their own resources and we've done this before. This isn't like a brand new thing, but it always hasn't gone through this full process. And we wanted to

again be as transparent as possible and take it through the full process. So you'll see sports photography and fiber arts. What you're do you're adopting is their the GBC that they have created. We're not just purchasing something. We have created um and curated are the the resources for this class. And we're not doing it to save money. We're doing this because it's the way to best meet our students needs. Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> I move the board of school trustees approve the curriculum and open sources for the sports photography and fiber arts courses as presented. >> Second. >> Motion by Jennifer, seconded by Mike. Is there any discussion? I guess I would just add that anytime that we're able to rely on the expertise of the teachers, the professionals in the

room that know their craft. Um, in particular bonus that this one doesn't, we're not paying um the the textbook company or the all the curricular materials are going directly to the students and and we're using their skill the teacher skills. Um, always got to vote. Good >> point. All right. All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Next up is the approval of high school family and consumer science department curricular materials. This is um for three classes and this is part these are part of the CTE. So this is a pathway for students um and majority of these are for pathway for students um in who want who pathway about being educators or teachers. um in this area. So the classes I mean with the exception of this that there's fundamentals of human services and

then um that's one of the curricular and open sources. The next class is early childhood education and early education guidance and that um Texas antibbias education for young children and ourselves and the other class is early childhood education and early education guide. Oh, I mean sorry both of these classes go together for both these textbook and the other one is developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood. So those are books to continue the pathway for students at our high school. We've already started this work. Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> Move that the board of school trustees approve the curriculum and open sources for fundamentals of human services course developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood programs and antibbias education for young children and ourselves. Textbook adoptions for the family and consumer science courses as

presented. Second >> motion by Mike, seconded by Josh. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Next up is approval of high school English language arts department curricular materials. >> So um in this one you'll see some changes because of the new diploma and some new opportunities we have. And so in the past um Um some of our kids would take like English nine, English 10, English 11, you know, honors or some other options that way. But in the senior year, we're going to give some flexibility where kids have some options. And so one um one course is of those options are technical communication. And these are you would take technical like these are semester classes. Um so there's technical communication again that's one that we're going with at C um

curriculum and open sources. So where our our teachers have curated this one using different resources. Um the other one a new course is genres of literature and that is the novel the glass castle. Um the next one is indie literature and that is um all good people here which is an author right from Indiana um to go with Indiana literature. And the other one is VU speech. Um we're just we were with IU speech and we're moving back to VU speech and that's the art of public speaking and we see we have some kids very gifted in that area that could probably teach that course. Um that was that were here tonight. So we are bringing those um those resources to you this evening. >> I move the board of school trustees approve the curriculum

and open sources for the technical communication course. the curriculum and the glass castle for the genres of literature course, the curriculum and all good people here for the Indie Inc. Indiana literature course and the art of public speaking as a curriculum resource for the Vincens University dual credit literature course as presented. >> Second motion by Kim, seconded by Jennifer. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. And then the last item, approval of high school, sorry, last item on this portion of our agenda. Uh approval of high school mathematics curricular materials. >> Say, okay, we're at the last one. Um high school math. And if you remember when we uh a couple months ago when we looked at courses and approving new courses, the state has just adjusted some courses. Um

and so these are some of those courses. So modern math and you'll see the book excursions and modern math very exciting and then prime math and you'll see that put that book we were already using for the other class that prime math is replacing. Um so just bringing those um to you for adoption. >> I move the board of school trustees approve the curriculum and excursions in modern math for advanced math. modern math course in the curriculum and preparing for college level math for prime math as presented. >> I just had a question before we move. Um so the implementation considerations those are really taken into consideration right and we work on those for these we do and so um I feel like when the board adopts that is just one step of the process

and then the next work that has to happen is implementation and so in some of those then we're um we'll get into the deep like nitty-gritty work of the the guaranteed value guaranteed and viable curriculum um and so that the scope and sequences and we also work on how are we going to support and train our staff. Um we don't just want to give them the resource and say good luck um and move on and we also want alignment across our district. So then it's working with our teachers um and that's ongoing support for implementation. >> Motion by Kim, seconded by Josh. Is there any more discussion? All right. All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. All right. Item number 10, board member items. Mr. Yoder, start with you. >> Uh, I guess um

we'll try to keep it uh short. We had a lot of uh celebrating orals and that's uh fantastic. So, I I will skip trying to reiterate some of that. Just remind that it's um early voting season for uh primaries. Um it's super easy to get in and out of the uh the the fairgrounds um Hendricks County Fairgrounds there words um and I think I was out in under 15 minutes so highly recommend uh voting for primary since that dictates uh who will be on the ballot in November. Um there was a second thing but I forget it so I'm skipping. >> Um I'm going to say about celebrating Orioles that um I I love that each student succeeds in their own way um and in their own time and in their own thing. Uh we

celebrated a lot of Orioles who had a lot of uh diversity uh tonight in the things that they have accomplished and that's always a great thing. Bringing out the best in kids is what we do. Um, I also want to thank uh you, Mrs. Alde, for the thorough um analysis of our curriculum um and for making that accessible um to a lot of people who uh may not have engaged in curriculum review before but are probably glad that they did and really get to see the process. that is a long arduous process and I appreciate the amount of effort and energy that goes into that. Um and then I just want to thank my fellow board members for once again achieving exemplary board status. Um to be one of five boards out of 290 in

the state of Indiana is um a high honor and um the great thing about it is that we couldn't individually do it. Uh we had to collectively do it. So, thank you everyone for their engagement in that. >> Uh, celebrating Oreos is my favorite part of any meeting. Um, also Mrs. All day like thank you. I appreciate all the work that goes into the curriculum and also for the transparency that we have for our parents that you offer different ways for them to be able to review that curriculum and >> uh certainly Dr. Finley and all the bus drivers who are present and have been present at other schoolboard members. Wow. Am I ever appreciative of you all for the reasons that Dr. Finley identified? Uh he said it very well. When you are the

first and last faces that our children often see at the beginning of our school day and at the end of the school day, you have uh done a remarkably good job of bringing uh forth to all of us the importance of some cl some clarity and transparency. It was overdue. Um and thank you for doing that. I am also glad to hear because it always makes sense to do a look around and see how we are doing compared to some of the other school corporations. We don't always get it right. We're not always perfect. We're not maybe always at the absolute top of the pay scale. We try to be wherever we can be. Uh, but I'm glad that we are able to do what we are able to do and we want to continue

to have the kind of conversation we're going that we've been having involving transparency and clarity because boy, you matter a lot to us. The second thing I want to say is that there is an special event occurring that many people in this room know about, some might not know about. On Wednesday night, um, there is an event called TEDex Live that is occurring at Hendricks Live in Planefield. if you haven't had the opportunity to be there for any events, concerts, comedy shows, it's quite an amazing, it's a pearl of our county. Um, it's right on Washington Street, Main Street, and Center Street, right at that intersection. Our high school um is a young man named Jay Desai, who you met tonight. Um, is the leader of this group. This was his brainchild. Uh, there have

been a lot of people who've been involved, including but not limited to Mrs. Woodward. Um, that we're going to have this wonderful presentation. It will start at 6 PM. And if you've I'm sure many of you have seen TED talks on YouTube. This is TED talks, but it's live and it's going to involve both students and adults. And some people like Dean Westman and Matt Haroff among others are going to be presenting. Uh there's going to be a scientist from IU uh School of Medicine saying we're all scientists. uh there's someone HR director with Eli Liy who's going to be talking about the importance of coffee even in a technological world and a lot of really fascinating uh components and so each of these talks if you know the way uh YouTube talk the way

that TED talks work on YouTube they're usually 10 to 15 minutes we're going to do it the exact same way so come prepared excited and it's free you need to get a ticket but it's an absolutely free ticket you're a Google search away from finding that free ticket and Mr. Carr has done a great job of of uh publicizing as well. Would you like to add >> almost sold out? >> Get on your phone right now. >> Yeah. So, got that that I think Hendrick's live seats about 600 people. So, that's really impressive. >> That's a good problem to have >> though. That's the sold out for this event. Okay. All right. Excellent. Okay. That is all. Thank you. >> That was actually my item, but I can piggyback off that. The donation report was

amazing and many of the items on there were to help with that TEDex event. So I think love seeing the community rally. So that's all I have in the interest of time. So >> if you can't remember the day, it's tax day, April 15th. So something good that happens on tax day is TEDex Live at 6 PM and it's free and we all need a little free on tax day. >> Dr. Windham, bring us home. >> Thank you for a great meeting. We covered a lot. Thank you. Meeting is adjourned at 850.
