To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> The Lord, thank you for allowing us to come here today. Uh give us the wisdom to make good decisions for our community, our school. Give everybody safe travels back home tonight after the meeting. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. >> Amen. Welcome everybody. Welcome Brett, Mr. Gramber. Uh we'll call the meeting to order here. Uh everybody's had a chance to look over the consent agenda and ask questions. Any other questions? >> No others. >> No other questions. So entertain a motion to accept the consent agend. >> All in favor say I. >> I. Next on the agenda would be the comments from patrons concerning items on
the agenda. >> Well, where do you want to start? Right here. No comments from patrons. So, we'll go to new business. Uh, first on there is the board policy review updates. We'll turn that over to >> Okay. >> So, we have two tonight. The first one is the second reading of update one, the February batch. And when I label them that, that's the first month that we received them. So tonight, if you guys are ready, you can take a vote to accept the first batch that we had um in update one. The only change that's been made to the update one since you saw them last month, which I shared with you, is policy C25, admission to the corporation legal settlement. It had language in there that said we would not provide any transportation to
anyone who lives outside of our school district. We do have some pickup locations where people can meet our buses who live outside of our district and they can transport in. So, I just changed that language to reflect our current practices that we have in there. Otherwise, no other changes to them. Um, happy to answer any questions about them. If not, I said you guys, if you feel comfortable, are able to make a vote to accept those tonight. >> That's for the February batch. >> That is for the February batch. Okay. I have no other questions, Alex or Lena. >> No. >> So, so we can go as any other questions. I'll make a motion to accept the update one February batch. I'll entertain a second. >> I'll second the motion. >> All in favor say
I. I. >> I. >> And when we put those in the minutes, we will have all of the policy numbers listed out. So, that will be reflected in there. The second one that we have tonight is just the first reading of them. And again, much like the first batch that we had, the first few rounds of policy that we have are pretty much the standard ones, the ones that you have to have in place. We're not really getting into ones that might be tailored more specifically to our corporation. Those will come at the end um of our batches. So, these ones had a lot to do with compliance. a lot of um compliance officers that we had to list which again is just copying over from what we had in our previous policy to these
ones. I have a couple of questions in to the attorney of a couple of changes that I want to clarify that we can make just some practices. One of them that stood out to me when they were talking about parking that mentioned parking passes in there and stuff. We don't issue parking passes for us. So just a few things that kind of tailored to our procedures, but I felt that overall the policies were pretty cut and dry and very similar to what we currently have. And again, they're policies that we pretty standard for us to have. So between now and next month, if you have any questions about them, feel free to send me those questions and I'll either get the answer for you or maybe have the answer and be able to help with
that moving forward. Thank you. And then so the same thing with out of district transfer. >> This one we will you will be able to take an action on this one tonight. Um so part of our out of district policy required from our school corporation but then also from the state of Indiana is that we set dates of when we're going to accept out of district out of district transfer applications. And so we have to submit a date to the state that's kind of our final date. And so we've always made that the second count date, which is usually around February 1st of the school year is when we make our final one. We do put some encouragement dates in place along the way to help us with operational um staffing and and different decisions
that we have. And so we usually ask that our first enrollment window be March 9th through a April 30th. that follows along with what we've done in the past. If people are interested in coming here for next school year, then we give ourselves a 30-day window after that closes to look to see where our numbers are at and to be able to make determinations if we'll be able to accept the students or not. And again, that helps us close out the year with a better idea of where we're going to be student-wise and help us with our staffing. Beyond that, if we do still have room after that date, then for first semester, we take applications and transfers up through the first count day, which September 30th would fall right before that count day. It's
actually on a weekend. And then for the second semester, January 31st would be the last school day before the count day or so. That is my recommendation is that we follow our past practice of having our final count date um of the school year be our final date that we take transfers for the school year. >> Okay. >> Any questions or >> I don't have any. >> I'll entertain a motion to accept the out of district transfer dates 2627. >> So move. >> Second that. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Next on the agenda is a personnel in report or end of employment. Like we have a couple teachers wanting to >> we do like I said these are these are bittersweet. Very excited for our teachers. um you know when they get
to the point when they know that they're ready to to take the next step in whatever they want to do in their their career or in their life but at the same time always sad for us as well. And so tonight we have J.R. Perkins who has been a teacher with us. He's has 30 years of service and to me that's just remarkable. Um JR has served in many roles for us in the elementary. JR has done ECAS. Um he's been very involved in our running program and he's always been here for the students. He's always been here for the staff. So I'd like to thank JR for all of his time that he has given to our corporation and to education in general. And then also the same for Mr. Steve Bulock, middle school,
high school CTE construction teacher. Steve is going to be retiring with 29 years of service, 14 of those here at Bar. And again, Steve is one of those guys that, yes, he's in the classroom and and he's teaching classes, but he's also helping out in different areas. He likes to organize pitchins for us. He will pull the grill out and he'll cook for the staff. He'll cook for the students. Whatever you need, he's all hands on deck. He's a great guy. Um, great educator. And so to both Jr. and Steve. I wish them the very best and thank them again for their service and just so happy for them. Sad for us, but happy for them. And then the third one tonight is Noah Mace, our middle school high school band teacher. He is resigning
and he is taking a position where the school does have a marching band and so he has a passion for marching band. So, I'm excited for him that he's going to be able to go and have that opportunity and thank him as well for his time here with us. You know, transitioning from a teacher who has been a long-standing teacher in a program isn't always easy and he has came right in. He's made it seamless. He's done a wonderful job with our band. So, I thank him for that and wish him the very best. You guys can approve all three of those at the same time and the minutes will reflect them each individually. What if we deny him? Can we deny him? They have to stay. >> You might have to have a conversation
with Steve on that one. I'll let you go tell him that. >> No, they've all done a great job, so we don't hate to hate to lose them. >> Any questions regarding the retirements or resignations? >> No. >> I'll make a motion to accept the the resignations for all three. Uh, entertain a second. >> I'll second. >> All in favor say I. >> I. Next is the employment recommendations for summer help transportation department. >> So then this is always an exciting one for us um when we get to bring new staff members into our family. This one's a little bit of a reassignment for us. And so the first one that we have on here is the summer help for the transportation department. In the past, we have always had Ashley Salman and Teresa Luger,
who are currently a part of our transportation department, come in and help in the summer. So, we are recommending them to be additional summer help this summer, as well as Abby Binge, Ava Graber, and Katrina Whitmer. They come in and they take about nine days and they get all of our buses clean top to bottom. They work hard and and they get a get it done and they do a great job with that. So, we have the five of them to be presented tonight for the summer help for the transportation department. And then we have Teresa Longer who's going to be switching over from a PAR position for us down to our transportation secretary position. We have adjusted the hours of that position a little bit so that Teresa can keep her bus route. I
worked with Chuck on that and he feels comfortable with the coverage down at the office of being able to do that and we said that we would try that out for the rest of the school year and just make sure that it was working well. Um we don't foresee any issues with it but she will be a dual role employee for us but she won't exceed the 40 hours on how we have the work schedule structured for that. In your packet, I shared a little bit of prorating the days since she's transitioning from the PAR position into this position, which will be 195day position moving forward. Um, we're going to do a little bit of proration for finish out the current school year. She'll do her summer help and then next year it'll start off
as 195 days and we have it worked out to where her summer help work will be included in those 195 days next year. So you have that information in your packet. So again, if you want to do those as one motion, you are welcome to do that. And then they would be listed separately. >> We can do both, >> but we can we can do them together or we can do however you guys would like to do those. >> Seems like that. Are you guys okay with that? >> Do when they wash those buses, do they max them too? >> I don't know about that. >> That would that would be hard. I don't know. Do you know? >> I don't know. I've never been I've never participated. >> I mean, I've gotten pictures and
videos of them, you know, with the brushes and all that, but >> I'm just trying to imagine wax on a whole big bus. >> They're pretty clean. >> They do a very nice job. >> Well, they keep you pretty clean throughout the year, too. But, you know, they got gravel and dusty, dirty worms to >> I remember uh when C was doing that, Chuck made her go back and clean the wheels again. She was bad at it. He said, "No, they're not clean. See, you got to go back." She couted a little bit, went back over there and did her. >> So funny. >> Any further questions regarding the transportation department position, summer help, and transportation secretary. If not, I'll entertain a motion to accept those recommendations. >> So, second that. All in favor say
I. >> I. >> Next is the up for is the is the superintendent report. >> Okay. Before we get to that, I just wanted to mention to you guys that we are happy to have Madison St. John with us from Vincent's University. She's doing her student teaching and she is in middle school special education with Jana Frederick. So, we're always happy whenever we can help out the profession and be able to give those experiences. is and I know she's going to have a wonderful experience um in our middle school. So excited to have her with us. And then for the strategic planning, this is always a unique time of year because we are still very active in one school year but looking at closing it out and then also looking towards the next school year.
So we're we're kind of working in different phases but all at the same time. And so you guys have been a part of some of the meetings already as far as looking at the financial side as far as SEA1 the impacts that that has had on our school district and the what we're looking at for the future for that. So again planning in terms of that we have been meeting with all of the operational departments to look at what are needs that we have for all of our different departments. How are we functioning? What are some short-term goals, long-term goals? and then we can align those as well with the financial side of things. But we also have a lot of planning going on right now as far as staffing. As you can see, you
know, we have some big shoes that we need to fill. We're getting course requests in right now from our students. So, we're looking at what program offerings are going to look like, how we can structure those pieces. But the other piece that we're doing is we've been in the ready schools for 3 years now. Two years of really living in the actual plan. And whenever you do something, you can live in it for a while, but sometimes you need to take a step back and re-evaluate where you're at with things. And one of the things that we want to be very strategic about, especially moving forward, is when we're saying yes to things that it's still aligning with what our plan is and coming back to our plan and looking and seeing are are we
still going the direction that we said that we wanted to go. And so we have that taking place right now. Our last teacher workday that we had, we had all of our focus groups meet. And so they were talking about where are they at, what are they working on, what are they coming back to. We're looking at some curriculum alignment. That's one of the big pieces that we're going to be rolling out. And again, coming back to that alignment piece as far as the strategic planning, um especially looking our ELA, how can we provide some additional support? We received a new curriculum for ELA this year. Once you've been in it for a little bit, Brett, you can attest to this. Once you've kind of taught in it for a little bit, then you're kind
of ready to start making it your own and see where we can take that. So, we have that coming up that we're going to be doing. And I left these on the board today. Um, I was actually at a meeting after this one and Tamara messaged me and she said, "Do you want those posters left up for the board meeting tonight?" Yes, actually I do. I asked them if they would leave them. And so this is part of our career coaching grant, but you can see a little bit of what our process is. A lot of times we start with the current. What are the things that we have going on right now? And then you'll notice May of 2029. Like that's the target date. So we're looking ahead. Where are we going with that?
And then what do we need to do in the meantime to get there? And so what's our planning going to look like? So right now we have this going on across the entire district. And so then the goal is that we'll be able to come back, we'll be able to wrap this up, revisit our strategic plan and have that better aligned um with our updates and ready to go for the next school year. So again, not a lot of information about what is actually going on in the plan right now, but I did want you guys to know that there's a lot of work going on across the district right now with our strategic planning as far as revisiting and making sure that we're headed in the same direction and that everything we're doing. Some
of this also came about from the TAG grant as well when we were sitting looking at the applications and then also looking at what the process could look like for it. you know, you can start going down so many different rabbit holes as far as like, well, measuring this and measuring that and, you know, measuring different things and if we're not all pulling in the same direction and stuff, it feels kind of counterproductive. And so, if we're all working in the same direction and we're all focused on areas that are contributing to this, we also need to capture that in our TAG grant as well. you know, let's measure what is our priority and let's connect that to our TAG grant and find a way because everybody contributes. So, let's find a way that we
can capture that in there. Also, with the evaluation plan, the evaluation plan has changed. Last year, they took out language from the law that doesn't make us have to have the same categories and the same structure that we've had. So, we're looking at that as well. How can we have a system there that lines up with what we are doing and what we feel is important here and stuff. So, it's trying to work smarter and not harder in a sense to where everything fits together in pieces and that way the work that we have doesn't feel disjointed. It doesn't feel like, well, I've got this going on over here and I've got this going on over here. It's like just coming back and making sure everything's connected. So, hopefully in the near future I'll have
a more concrete plan to give you with that. But I did want you to know that's what we're busy doing right now is doing that work. So I'm excited about it. I think it's good work. >> So 29 a year before you know it. >> Who kind of was working through this? >> So this was our career coaching grant that we have through ready schools. And so they're they had two people come from their career coaching team was here and then our career coaching team was here today. We didn't have all of our members present but I was here. Melissa Lotus, um, Tinley Lester, and Dina Linger were in on this one today. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> That is all I have right now. >> Say that's >> She's trying to give
you a try this. >> Thank you for all that information. Any questions? Any other questions, Alex? Or Lyn? >> No, I don't have any questions. Any questions, Brett? >> So, no other questions. I entertain a motion to adjourn. Before we adjourn though, I guess good luck to the boys this weekend. >> Yes. Yes. >> Some mistakes. It's >> exciting. >> I couldn't wear green. >> Do what? >> They couldn't wear green. >> So, was that >> there's some community upset people upset about that? Yes. So, >> I mean, I heard there was a >> one of the things with it was the it kind of got it got got rolling over the weekend before we had had a chance to sit down and discuss it and a little bit of feedback once we get to
definitely semi-state and state for our entire fan base to not have green. That's not our school color. You know what I mean? It would it would be a different feel and stuff. And so part of it was we didn't want to have community fan members who were like, "Do I wear green? Do I wear what do I wear?" type of thing. So we felt it was safe to go with a school color for that. And then um on Monday, the some of the senior leaders, they sit down with Mr. Doyle and Mr. Ash and they then talk about kind of what they're going to do. So when they kind of talk through things and stuff, they came to the conclusion that it was good to focus on looking ahead and stuff. maybe not so much
backwards um but look ahead at you know what the boys have to accomplish that day and just keep the focus there and stuff and so at that time they decided that school colors was where we needed to be on that one. >> Yeah, that's good. >> Good call. Um, next meeting will be Tuesday, April the 21st at 6 o'clock, but before that on Monday, April the 20th is the ISBA meeting and stuff. So, I can get that sent out to you as well. I think 5:00 is when the registration opens. >> That's on the 20th. >> The 20th. That's on the Monday. >> Make sure I put that in my calendar this time. >> So, we will be back to back. Okay, other than that it questions, any other comments? I'll make a motion to
adjourn. I'll second that. All >> in favor say I. I. >> Thank you. >> Nice to see you.
